Cut the insulation in accordance with the glue and glue the foam or batting. To avoid waiting for the glue to dry, grab the material in several places with a stapler. Then lay out a piece of dermantine on the insulation, and so that on each side there are the same allowances for the seams. And then tuck the edges inward, under the insulation, forming a kind of small roller and at the same time nailing them. Algorithm of actions: we start from the top edge, then we fix the left and right sides, the bottom - at the very end. When fixing the roller, be sure to ensure that its thickness is uniform. And be sure to drive in the studs at the same distance from each other, otherwise your door is unlikely to look neat.

No matter how trite it may sound, the front door is the face of the house! It not only serves practical purposes, but also allows guests to create an impression of your accommodation. Of course, the desire to sheathe the front door arises, as a rule, when it thermal insulation properties leave much to be desired. However, if you do such a repair well, you can transform the old door structure do it yourself what doorway will receive a new, unique look.

Where to begin?

First you need to take a tape measure and measure the opening. First of all, you need to measure the height of the door. To determine the width, measure the distance between the points of contact between the door and the frame. The depth of the door will be the width of the corners, it can also be determined using ordinary plasticine, a piece of which must be placed between the door leaf and the frame. By closing the door, you will receive an easy-to-measure impression. The received data needs to be written down, according to them in the store they will help you calculate required amount material. It is better to prepare the opening in advance by dismantling the old casing with your own hands, removing the lock and other accessories.

What do you need?

The turn came to take care of the materials, taking into account their features:

Instruments

Wooden and metal doors are finished a little differently, it also matters which side of the door (outside or inside) is to be finished. However, having bought materials for upholstery in a hardware store, do not forget to stock up on auxiliary tools and accessories, without which repair is impossible. Their list looks like this:

  • Corners;
  • Decorative strips;
  • Self-tapping screws;
  • Staples;
  • Furniture nails (including decorative ones);
  • Styrofoam;
  • Bars;
  • Glue (in the absence of special glue, "universal moment" is quite suitable);
  • Brush for applying glue;
  • Scissors;
  • Construction stapler;
  • Hammer;
  • Stationery knife.

Progress

V general outline, DIY upholstery repair is as follows: inner cavity doors around the perimeter and in the center have wooden bar, which is attached with self-tapping screws. Further actions depend on the type of upholstery selected. The material is attracted to the inner side with outside with the help of long self-tapping screws, for upholstering the outer side of the door, the self-tapping screws are mounted from the inside along the perimeter of the door leaf.

Repair and sheathing with thin-sheet material, such as fiberboard, has its own nuances - the sheets are simply glued in the middle, and along the perimeter of the canvas they are attached and closed with decorative strips in order to beautifully disguise the fasteners. Thus, the doorway is very neat, even with your own hands.

To upholster the door with leatherette with your own hands, you need to measure the opening and cut the appropriate size of insulation. You can fix it with metal staples, furniture nails, and in some places - with the help of glue. Repair and replacement of upholstery is carried out, as a rule, using decorative studs. The edges of the material are folded and fixed well.

Sheathing with "clapboard" or wooden lath is another interesting option for door upholstery. "Lining" is impregnated with all kinds of compounds that give it the qualities of fire resistance, prevent rotting and increase moisture resistance. This finish is not inferior in practicality to PVC, but surpasses it in environmental friendliness. "Lining" can be painted or varnished, and it is not at all difficult to fix. Therefore, such a door finish is suitable not only for an apartment, but also decorates an opening in a private house.

Wooden door trim

Upholstery of wooden entrance doors involves the manufacture and fastening from the inside along the perimeter of the door leaf of a special roller, which closes the gaps between the leaf and the frame. Such a roller is made of upholstery material and insulation: the materials must be cut according to the height and width of the door, attach them and fix them with a stapler so that insulating strips are obtained along the entire contour of the door.

Metal door trim

An iron door can be insulated with beams, making a frame from them around the perimeter of the door using self-tapping screws. The holes for fixing the panels must be made in accordance with the selected panels - they have instructions that describe the features of their fixing. The holes for the peephole, the handle and the lock are calculated and cut out independently. Insulation is inserted into the niches between the bars and fixed with glue. The repair will be completed by gluing the decorative corner to the iron door along the perimeter - it will cover the edges of the panels.

Thus, if the door has lost its functional properties or appearance, do not rush to resort to replacing it, because it is quite possible to knock down an inexpensive iron or old wooden front door, and everyone can increase its service life with their own hands.

The entrance door, which is not decorated with upholstery or has an old cracked surface, looks extremely sloppy, in advance forming a negative idea of the homeowners among those who came. Moreover, it does not retain heat inside the apartment, and all the noise from the entrance freely penetrates into the premises. Therefore, over time, any good owner has a desire to put things in order from both the aesthetic and practical sides.

Upholstering the door with leather with your own hands, while also solving the issues of insulation and sound insulation - it is quite possible, since this event does not apply to work of a high degree of complexity, and is available to almost everyone. The main thing is to have everything necessary materials, certain tools and a good understanding of the sequence of work.

1. To update the door trim, you will need to prepare the following materials:

  • Natural leather, of course, is a very expensive material, and is used for these purposes in exceptional cases. It doesn't matter, there is artificial leather (leatherette or leatherette). This material is available in a large assortment in building stores, and varies in color, thickness and textured drawing, so you can choose it for every taste. High-quality artificial leather, both visually and tactilely, differs little from natural.

The width of this material varies from 1100 to 1400 mm, and this is quite enough for the size of any door leaf. Before purchasing leatherette, you need to measure the height of the door and add 25-30 cm to the result. This length of upholstery material must be bought for one side.

Also, we must not forget that upholstery will be needed for the manufacture of rollers, which will be fixed around the perimeter of the door leaf. For them, you need three strips, having a width of 12-15 cm and a length that is equal to the height of the door.

  • For sound insulation and insulation, foam rubber sheet, dense synthetic winterizer or felt are suitable. The required material thickness is from 10 to 25 mm.

Felt can be used as insulation ...

This value will depend on the type of material, and on the desired volume of the pattern, if it is supposed to be done with decorative nails, thin wire or fishing line.

... or foam sheets

  • Wallpaper nails with a decorative cap. They can be made of copper, silver or gold alloys, or they can be covered with a material of the same color as the selected upholstery material.

Wallpaper carnations - you can choose the most suitable for design

The diameter of the jackets or their design will depend on design solution on the design of the door leaf.

To general view d veri looked harmonious, it is best to select nails to match the color of the door handle and lock.

  • If a metal door is put in order, then one of the highly resistant polymer adhesives, for example, "88" or the universal "Moment", is purchased for this.
  • In addition to sheet insulation material, you will need strips of round insulation (foam rubber or foamed polyethylene), sold by the meter. For our purposes, a diameter of 10, 15 or 20 mm is suitable.

2. From the tools should be prepared:

  • Staples and stapler for temporary fixation of insulation and upholstery. Most convenient size staples for door upholstery 8 ÷ 10 mm.
  • Medium hammer for decorative nails.
  • Spicy construction knife- it is useful for cutting insulation and upholstery material.
  • A screwdriver with a set of nozzles (bits) and a massive screwdriver - they are useful for dismantling the old casing, removing and then installing the locks and the sight glass.
  • A nailer and pliers are needed to pull out nails, if they will go wrong when driving in and, it is imperative to dismantle the old coating, in the case when it was installed.
  • Shears for cutting materials.

3.K preparatory work can be attributed to the withdrawal old upholstery doors:

  • First dismantle all removable elements - peephole, locks and door handles.
  • Further, with the help of tools, the old casing is removed as accurately as possible. It can be picked up with a powerful screwdriver and then with pliers. Usually, if the materials are not planted on glue, leatherette and insulation are separated from the door leaf quite easily. When removing the upholstery from an old wooden door, do not use excessive force so as not to damage the canvas. Be sure to carefully examine the entire surface in order to remove the remaining unnecessary nails, staples, screws, fragments of the old coating
  • After cleaning the surface, the door can be removed from its hinges and placed on a prepared work table (workbench) or installed four to six stools. Further work on the upholstery can be carried out in this position. If it is decided to remove the canvas from the hinges, then before this process it is imperative to mark its contour on the door frame.
  • Sometimes the door cannot be removed, and its cladding is carried out in a suspended state in its regular place.

How to upholster a door with leather with your own hands - various options

To disassemble all the technology for cladding from all sides in detail, you need to consider three different options works are upholstery outside a wooden door, then an internal one, and then dwell on the features of a similar process on metal door.

Wooden door - interior upholstery

According to a long-established practice, wooden entrance doors in multi-storey buildings opened to the inside of the apartment. It is this option that will be considered.

The inner lining of the door opening into the apartment is somewhat different from the outer lining, and the main difference of this process is the use of additional insulation elements - rollers... They are made from strips of upholstery and pre-cut insulation. It is convenient to use ready-made foamed polyethylene rollers, which are sold by the meter, as an insulating pad. This item overall design serves to reliably close the gaps between the door leaf and the door frame. Therefore, they are nailed in such a way that they protrude beyond the door by 10 ÷ 20 mm. It must be remembered that on the side where the hinges are located, the roller is repaired in such a way that it completely covers the gap along the entire height of the door frame.

  • The first stage of work is the cutting of upholstery and insulation. For the first, the exact geometric parameters of the door are taken, to which 120— 150 mm are added - this will become the size that will be needed for the decorative sheathing of the canvas.

As a rule, there are always strips of trimmings - they are perfect for forming sealing beads for upholstery of the contour.

The insulation sheet should be 10 mm smaller on each side than the door itself.

  • Along the perimeter of the door with brackets using a stapler, leatherette strips are attached with the front surface down. Usually, strips up to 140 mm wide are used, the length is exactly the size of the door is tight. At the same time, about 40 mm of this strip is placed on the surface of the door - the rest should be outside.

Insulating tapes of polyethylene foam rubber are wrapped in these strips. Thus, rollers are formed, which, in the same way, with a stapler, are fixed on the door leaf.

Installation of rollers begins from the upper right corner of the door, then they are fixed by the vertical edges of the door, and only then - to the lower one. This takes into account the location of the door relative to the floor - the roller should not rub against flooring, since this will very quickly wear out and burst.

If it is supposed to install an invoice, then when attaching the rollers this is taken into account - a corresponding gap is made.

  • Further, on door leaf fits insulation material... It is fixed along the perimeter with brackets, stepping back from its edge by 5-7 cm. Holes for the peephole and locks are immediately cut out in it.

  • The next step is to fix on the surface, on top of the insulation, the most upholstery material - artificial leather.

It is wrapped around the edges of the insulation and fixed at the upper corners with staples. If the upholstery is planned with a special pattern, then its marking is carried out on the material fixed on top.

If the leatherette is to be fixed only along the perimeter, then decorative nails are hammered at the same distance from each other, 60 ÷ 80 mm. The material is stretched in the course of nailing, since after completion of the work it should be perfectly flat.

Upholstery of the outside of a wooden door

The outer upholstery of the door opening to the inside of the apartment is as follows:

  • Previously, when closed, a rectangle is drawn with a pencil on the door leaf door frame- this line will show how far from the edge the upholstery should be installed. The remaining distance will be required for the “quarter” selected in the door frame.
  • The next step is to fix the insulation material with a deviation from the drawn line inward by one centimeter.
  • Then the main cladding material is nailed to the door along the outlined line with bend its edge v in the gut, similarly internal installation, but the bottom edge of the material is left free for now.

A characteristic feature - the sealing rollers are not attached to the door leaf, but to the frame

  • From the outside, the insulation roller is installed on three sides not on the door, but on the racks and the crossbar of the door jamb, except for the lower side. To nail such a roller to the threshold is absolutely pointless, since it will not perform its functions, moreover, it will quickly come off or wear off from constant contact with the shoes of people passing through the door.

Leatherette strip is fixed face to the jamb with a stapler, a strip of insulation is installed into it, the second side of the material is tucked inward, forming a roller, and nailed with decorative nails. The roller should be on the door when it is closed by 15 - 20 mm, but you need to make sure that it does not fall on the keyhole.

  • The lower insulation roller cannot be too bulky, it is attached to the door leaf itself and must fit snugly to the threshold.
  • Further, the main fabric of the upholstery is pulled onto the lower roller and nailed.
  • The last step, after upholstery on both sides, installs all the door accessories - peephole, handles and locks. It is very important to carefully make small cuts in the skin. The main thing is not to cut the material more than is required, otherwise the door will immediately lose its respectable appearance.

Features of working on a metal door

Usually installed as external, always opening outward. It would also be nice to insulate it from the inside and transform it on both sides.

Outer side

When transforming and insulating a metal door, insulating rollers are not used around the perimeter. This door has a completely different purpose - it is used as the main protection of the entrance to the house and ill-wishers, and only then - as additional protection by cold.

Installation of upholstery and insulation on the metal from the outside is carried out with glue. In this case, the insulation is cut out in size 10 ÷ 15 mm m less than the door leaf, both in length and in width. The upholstery material should exceed its size by 50-60 mm - this part of the material will go to bend around the metal shelves of the door leaf.

  • On a metal surface, stepping back from the edge 10 ÷ 15 mm, and in several places in the middle of the plane, glue is applied in strips.
  • Then the insulation is laid on it and well pressed against the door leaf. It is necessary to allow time for the glue to dry under the insulation. The specific period will be indicated in the instructions for use of the specific composition.
  • Next, you can start gluing the leatherette. On the back of the metal plate from the top of the door, glue is applied at a distance of 50 mm. He needs to be given a few minutes to set.

  • Then, having marked the middle of the width of the door and the cladding material, it must be applied to the glued place according to the marks and pressed carefully, and then given some time for a good adhesion.
  • In the next step, the side parts of the door are sequentially glued in the same way - the covering material is folded onto the shelves and glued. If, when pulling, an excess of leatherette is formed, even in a few millimeters, it must be cut off sharp knife otherwise it will interfere when the door is closed. If the cladding is tight enough, you may need to cut corners to make the cladding as neat as possible.

Inner side

If the inner side of the metal door is not insulated, then you should think about this event as well. Usually, on the reverse side, a metal door looks like a frame welded from corners and a profile pipe, on which it is welded a metal sheet, acting as a door leaf. We already have it covered with artificial leather.

Now it is necessary to insulate and decorate the inside of the door.

- In this case, polystyrene foam, which has the thickness of the door frame, is perfect for insulation.

- You will also need wooden battens of the same thickness.

- Polyurethane foam is required to seal joints and seams.

- It is necessary to prepare a drill with a drill for metal screws.

- For interior decoration thin plywood, soft insulation and leatherette can be used.

  • The first step is to fix the wooden planks to the frame. To do this, in the corners or shaped pipe holes are drilled and the strips are fixed to them with self-tapping screws. The slats are necessary so that it is convenient to attach plywood or other inner lining to them.

  • To remove the "cold bridges", between the possible gaps between the metal and the slats are filled polyurethane foam... By the way, it will add additional rigidity to the fastening of the rails, since it also has pronounced adhesive properties.

  • After the slats are screwed on and treated with foam, polystyrene foam panels are installed between them. The slots between them and the rails are also carefully filled with polyurethane foam.

  • While the foam dries, you can start preparing plywood sheet... Its thickness must be chosen in such a way that the door is easily pressed against the jamb, especially since insulation and cladding will still be installed on it.
  • The plywood blank must have the size of the inner part of the door, insulated with foam, plus the width of the frame along the upper and lower sides of the door leaf perimeter.
  • Thin insulation is glued over the entire area of plywood.
  • Further, the plane is completely tightened with leatherette, with its bend to the inside. The material is fixed with glue and additionally fixed in several places with staples.
  • When the panel is completely ready, the location is marked on it wooden slats bolted to metal frame... This process must be done very carefully so that barely noticeable points remain on the casing, along which decorative nails will be hammered.
  • It is possible that you will have to make one more hole in the corners and fix the corners of the plywood sheathing with self-tapping screws in order to ensure a snug fit of this lining to the metal frame.

It should be noted that, if desired, the plywood trim can be replaced ordinary clapboard from natural wood or laminated fiberboard... It, starting from the bottom, is attached to the same installed rails.

Upholstery the door with leather or - it's not difficult at all. By doing this work on his own, the landlord can save a fairly large amount. Acquisition will be able to facilitate the calculations and the upholstery process ready-made kit, which includes a set of materials designed to decorate a standard door.

Video - How to properly upholster the door with leatherette

If an old wooden door in a house or apartment has lost its former appearance over time, you should not replace it with a new one: old design can be restored. And besides, new wooden door systems are too expensive, and beautiful designs made of chipboard or MDF are short-lived.

Well-restored timber structures look amazing. Refresh door system do it yourself is easy, and such a procedure takes a little time.

In this case, painting the doors alone is indispensable: this event is rather cosmetic in nature, therefore more radical measures are needed.

Sheathe wooden structure do it yourself with the following material:

  • laminate;
  • plastic;
  • clapboard;
  • dermantin.

Laminate is made from fibreboard... This material is finishing boards(their average thickness is 7-8 mm). Seamy side finishing material- waterproof paper. Currently, laminate is produced in the most a variety of options: imitation of stone, wood, ceramic, etc.

Thanks to such a variety of proposals, the door can be updated to suit any interior. Moreover, laminate is not just a decor, it is also a wonderful heat and sound insulation raw material. But since this cladding material is hygroscopic, it is used only for inner cladding(for finishing the canvas outside, it will not work).

Lining is considered an excellent option. This upholstery material consists of wooden slats equipped with special grooves, which makes it easier to attach them. The thickness of the lining ranges from 6 mm to 2 cm.

In the manufacture of this cladding material, it is treated with antiseptic agents. And although the lining is less hygroscopic than the laminate, it is still not recommended to sheathe the front door with your own hands from the outside: this decor is better used for interior designs or the inside of the inlet block. In addition, it should be noted that the lining is an excellent noise and heat barrier.

MDF is produced from compressed granular shavings. The thickness of the slabs with which the door leaf can be sheathed is 16 mm. These panels are covered with a polyvinyl chloride film at the production stage, making them resistant to the destructive effects of moisture and mechanical damage. In view of this, MDF can be used for door cladding from the outside.

Plastic - a decor created from polyvinyl chloride with the addition of special chemical substances that increase the resistance of the material to extreme temperatures, ultraviolet radiation and moisture. This upholstery material is easy to install and does not require any special maintenance.

However, he has an "Achilles heel": plastic is notable for its low strength. Therefore, it is decided in each case individually to use it for sheathing only the inner side of the structure or sheathe the entrance door inside and outside with it.

If it is decided to update the doors in the house with dermantine, experts recommend paying attention to leatherette made on the basis of synthetic fabric.

This decor has a considerable list of advantages:

  • elastic (easy to stretch);
  • waterproof;
  • does not crack when exposed to low temperatures;
  • lasting.

In addition, dermantine can be used to update both the outer and inner sides of the front door. As a lining for upholstery with dermantine, synthetic winterizer, batting or polyurethane foam can be used (the most the best option, according to experts, is polyurethane foam).

Due to the wide range of colors of the currently produced leatherette, almost any customer can choose upholstery material to their taste and color. Thus, the upholstery made by Dermantin will fully meet the tastes of the owner of an apartment or a country house.

Restoration of the ossuary

Okosyachka or enclosure is a wooden box installed along the perimeter of the opening (door or window) in wooden house... Before you update this structural element with your own hands, it is worth taking a closer look at its purpose.

First, it prevents windows and doors from being crushed. The fact is that during shrinkage wooden walls the logs "twist" very much, as a result of which they can move slightly and put pressure on the window or doorway. Shrinkage minimizes this load, protecting structures from crushing. In fact, a do-it-yourself cut or siege in the house is a guarantee that the windows and doors installed in this building will last for many years.

Secondly, the window reinforces the stability of the walls and, as a result, makes the house more durable. Therefore, the planting is recommended even in log houses built more than two years ago.

Thirdly, a window is an appropriate decor. If the cage has an interesting texture and is covered with a well-chosen colors, it can become an important decorative element of the building.

You can update such a decor with your own hands by painting it or covering it with another chemical composition intended for processing wooden elements constructions. However, the box must be processed carefully: this forms a protective "casing" for the structure against moisture and other atmospheric influences, and also creates an impeccable decor.

Insofar as modern market offers treatment compounds for casing different shades, you can update a wooden box with your own hands by painting it in any of them.

However, it is worth paying attention to the fact that the jar is not sheathed or upholstered with dermantine, clapboard, laminate or other material. But if it is properly processed, the window will become a durable, beautiful and reliable element of the house. However, the front door restored by your own hands is no less important: it can become an appropriate hallmark of the house and its reliable "guard".

Entrance and interior doors lose their attractiveness over time, but it is not always wise to buy a new canvas, in most cases the situation can be saved by a new leatherette upholstery. At the same time, such an event allows to improve the heat / sound insulation properties of the door, which is especially important for residents of multi-storey buildings.

Dermatin (also called dermantin, eco-leather or granitol) as a material was known and popular even to our forefathers in the 30-40s of the 20th century. Leatherette was used to upholster not only doors, but also furniture, as well as book bindings and much more. However, at that time, the quality of the material was at a mediocre level, and the variety color palette and textures left a lot to be desired.

Now, thanks to modern developments, leatherette has become a durable, attractive and durable material with a wide palette of shades and textures. Leatherette is one of the many leatherette substitutes. In the production process, nitrocellulose, polyurethane or vinyl coatings are applied to the base fabric on one / two sides, which provide the external similarity of the finished material with natural counterparts.

Reasons for the popularity of leatherette

  1. Dermatin tolerates temperature extremes.
  2. The material "breathes", but at the same time it has moisture-repellent properties.
  3. The leatherette is durable enough, has sufficient tensile strength, the surface is difficult to damage.
  4. Leatherette is easy to care for. At intervals of several months, the surface should only be coated with impregnation. Contaminants are removed with soap foam, ammonia or ordinary medical alcohol.
  5. Eco-leather is attractive in appearance and is very different affordable price... Anyone who knows how to hold a hammer can buy a piece of material and knock down the door with their own hands.
  6. Leatherette as upholstery is a good sound and heat insulator, respectively, if you knock the door with eco-leather, then the room will become much more comfortable.

When choosing a material for door upholstery, pay close attention to the thickness of the base fabric and the quality of the coating. It is advisable to choose a dense material that is slightly springy when stretched. High-quality leatherette does not have stains from paint, and if you run it over the surface with a fingernail, then no traces remain. Don't forget about the smell. The harsh chemical amber will not fade over time and will be constantly felt in the room.

If the quality of the material suits you, you just have to make a purchase by paying for a piece of leatherette, which is about 10-15% longer and wider than the dimensions of the door.

What is useful for work?

The leatherette will have to be cut, which means it will be needed scissors, pencil and meter ruler or tape measure.

To secure a piece of material, it will come in handy construction stapler, hammer, nails for construction and furniture decorative(metallic or covered with matching vinyl leather). For cladding iron door no nails needed. They will be replaced by assembly glue.

Additionally, for decoration, you can prepare decorative wire or cord... If the door is very old, it is recommended to purchase metal corners to further strengthen the structure.

If planned additional insulation then it is worth buying foam rubber, felt or batting.

And to prepare the door for sheathing, you need pliers, screwdriver, pliers.

The purpose of the preparation is to get a smooth door leaf on which the leatherette will lie beautifully and evenly. Therefore, it is necessary to remove the door peephole, dismantle doorknob, lock, remove old skin, if any.

It is important to eliminate all protruding and protruding parts. If the door is embossed, then a sheet will help to quickly align it thin plywood cut according to the dimensions of the door and nailed along the perimeter with construction nails.

This option is suitable for interior doors... The work will be much more convenient if the door is removed from its hinges and laid horizontally on a pair of stools of equal height.

Step one. Preparing materials

In addition to the above list of materials and tools, you will need frame profiles for tensioning the fabric (one-sided). It is these profiles that we cut so that you can easily position them around the perimeter of the door.

And you will also need two-piece furniture buttons - metal base with a carving and a cap covered with leatherette.

Step two. Making markup

In order to smoothly and beautifully sheathe the door with leatherette, we make markings, namely:

  • using a square and a tape measure, divide the door by two perpendicular lines into four equal parts;
  • mark on the door the places where the buttons will be installed.

Step three. We fasten buttons, insulation and trim

Apply assembly glue to the places where the buttons will be located. We glue the details of the threaded buttons.

We take already cut profiles and glue them around the perimeter of the door. We wait for the glue to dry (about a day).

And while the glue dries, cut holes for buttons in a sheet of insulation (polyurethane foam or foam rubber). The next day, we spread the insulation on the surface of the door, combine the holes in the material with the button fasteners glued to the door. Cut off the excess around the edges. We do the same with leatherette. It remains only to fasten the buttons, pull on the leatherette and tuck it into the profiles.

Step four. Final

We install the handle and hang the door in place. This completes the work.

It is easy to upholster the door with dermantine with your own hands! Classic option

The work is quite painstaking, but everyone can do it. It is not necessary to remove the door from its hinges.

We cut out the material. We will need strips of dermantine about 15 cm wide for the bordering rollers and a layer of material slightly larger than the door.

We take leatherette strips, cloves and a hammer. We place the strip with the wrong side up. We fasten the edge of the strip to the edge of the door with carnations (step - 10 cm) or with a stapler.

Using a stapler or glue, we fix the foam rubber on the surface of the door. Cut off the excess with a clerical knife. On top of the foam rubber, we fasten two layers of batting in the same way. This will extend the service life of the short-lived foam rubber and improve the thermal insulation properties of the door.

We proceed to fastening the leatherette cloth. We hammer the first decorative carnation at the top of the door, in the middle. The second is at the bottom center of the door. This will avoid distortions. For the same purpose, it is worth pulling the material as much as possible. Next, we hammer in nails around the perimeter of the door, observing a step of about 10 cm.

We return to the edging of the door. Cut the batting into thin strips, roll each into a tube. We put these tubes in the center of the leatherette strips. We wrap the strips inward so that we get a neat roller. We fix the rollers with decorative carnations.

We attach the handle to the updated door. At this point, you can complete the work or proceed to decorative finishing... To do this, we take a cord, put any pattern you like on the door, for example, a zigzag or rhombuses.

Note! If your door opens "away from you", then you will have to fix the rollers not on the door, but on the jambs (box) adjacent to it. On the door itself, the leatherette is simply stretched, the edges are tucked in and fixed around the perimeter with carnations.

Door upholstery with leatherette tiled method

The door itself will act as a basis; buttons and foam rubber are also needed. The door must be removed from its hinges.

We mark out using a square and a meter ruler. We draw the entire door leaf into the same rhombuses, in the corners of which we fasten the base screws for the buttons. We spread the foam rubber with cut holes and fix it with a stapler (insert 3-4 staples around each screw, and also fix the foam rubber around the chipboard perimeter).

Foam rubber with holes

We cut the leatherette into diamonds. The leatherette lozenges should be slightly larger than those marked on the door. Excess material will go to the hem. For leatherette rhombuses, we cut off one corner in advance, so that it is more convenient to make the cladding.

We fasten the first diamonds along the edges of the door with a stapler, bending. The corners of the diamonds should be in the places where the button holder protrudes.

How to fix diamonds in the center of the panel? We lay out the diamond on the foam rubber according to the markings. The trimmed corner should be at the top. We fasten the lower corner of the rhombus with a bracket. We fold the edges of the material. We fix the right and left corners of the rhombus with brackets, avoiding distortions and wrinkling of the leatherette. We fasten the button. Continue until the entire door is hidden behind a neat paneling.
