Water saving shower head (4559557). A clear conscience: how to save water in the shower Turn to the latest technology

Any modern faucet is equipped with a conventional nozzle, which prevents splashing of water and makes the stream even. However, few people think that during operation, 12-15 liters of water flows out of the mixer per minute. This approach is extremely inefficient, because in order to wash your hands or brush your teeth you need much less liquid. A water-saving showerhead will help make the flow of liquid more balanced and rational.

How it works?

Water saving showerheads physically limit fluid flow to 8L/minute. This volume will be completely enough to satisfy your household needs. One way or another, they are connected to the mixer or to the plumbing system, and the liquid flows through them. Water saving nozzles can be used:

  • on the kitchen faucet, which allows you to save water while cooking or washing food,
  • on the washbasin to reduce water consumption during handwashing and brushing teeth,
  • in the shower or on the faucet in the bathroom to minimize the cost of every bath.

The installation of these nozzles is also relevant for owners of catering, hotels and other establishments where it is impossible to constantly control the flow of water. In most cases, it will not be difficult to install a nozzle to reduce the flow yourself. It is enough to remove the standard nozzle and screw the economizer in its place. In the case of a shower, installation is done on a hose, and then a watering can is screwed to the nozzle itself.

Savers are divided into several types:

A water-saving shower head is one of the most common plumbing fixtures. It can be produced in various sizes and have all sorts of modifications. In some aerators, you can change the size of the water flow by simply turning the nozzle. Others are equipped with a complex aeration system that fills the water with oxygen, but at the same time retains its flushing ability. You can also purchase a backlit shower aerator to save water. In addition to saving water, they become an interesting element of the interior.

Aerators and other water-saving attachments should not be used if there is little pressure in the pipes. In such cases, the device will work very poorly or give a jet with low pressure.

Sensor nozzles for saving water

Sensory attachments are multifunctional devices. In addition to significant savings, they allow you to forget about the problem of open taps, because liquid is supplied from them only if the infrared sensor senses heat. Another advantage of touch devices is hygiene. You do not need to touch the faucet or any of its components with your hands, which will be useful when cooking. For stable operation of the sensory attachments, the batteries should be replaced every six months. Among the shortcomings of this device, one can distinguish a bulky appearance.

Magnetic nozzles for saving water

This type of device is mounted on water meters. It acts on the anti-magnetic clutch installed inside the device and stops the calculation of the consumed water.

Magnetic nozzles are produced from various materials: neodymium, iron, boron and other metals that can affect the antimagnetic field. They have an affordable cost and are very easy to fix on the body of the water meter.

However, those who decide to purchase such a nozzle should be aware that any third-party impact on the water meter is a violation of the rules for using housing and communal services. And if you find magnets, you can impose a significant fine. It should be noted that a properly selected magnet will not break the water meter, and after its removal, the meter will function in standard mode.

Shower Water Limiters

A device of this type is most often installed between the hose and the shower head. It significantly reduces pressure and reduces water waste. The water saver shower head is a great solution for large families where bathing becomes as frequent as brushing your teeth. The limiter should be chosen depending on what pressure is most comfortable for you, because it will not be possible to adjust it after installing the device. Depending on the model, the restrictors can be 4, 6, 8 or 10 liters per minute.

A faucet aerator can be bought at any hardware store or on the Internet When choosing a faucet for a bathroom or kitchen, pay attention to the aerator. What is the quality and how it is attached. In stores you can find a device with an internal or external thread. Various types of nozzles - aerator allow you to choose the best option for everyone.

Faucet aerator: its device and types

Nozzle - aerator for the faucet consists of the main parts. Inner and outer casing designed for assembly and installation of the aerator. They allow you to install it on a washbasin, sink or bath faucet. The mesh limits the water pressure in the faucet. And one more part - o-rings, which are necessary for the hermetic connection of the aerator with the faucet. Faucet aerator is very popular among consumers. He is able not only to control the pressure of water, but also to save it. When using it, water is saved 2-3 times.

Different types of aerator perform different functions. In addition to saving water, some can regulate the pressure of the jet, others saturate the water with oxygen and others, which purify the water from various large particles.

Faucet aerator may vary in shape and design

Types of aerator on the mixer can be:

  • Vacuum,
  • Turning,
  • Illuminated aerator.

Easy to use swivel aerator. It is the best of the above species. The nozzle can be made from different materials. The highest quality and most durable are ceramic aerators, they have one drawback - they are expensive. Aerators made of plastic are cheaper and can last a long time. There may also be aerators made of stainless or chrome steel, but they are short-lived. Aerators made of non-ferrous metals (bronze or brass) are also expensive.

Shower aerator cleaning and replacement

An inefficient watering can is one of the main reasons for not saving water in the shower. To reduce water consumption, you need to limit the flow of water used. Currently, there are economical watering cans or nozzles on them that allow you to save water.

A shower aerator is a modern invention that can save up to 50% of water. And it won't even be noticeable. Savings occur without sacrificing your comfort.

In order for the aerator to be able to perform its functions, it must always be in good working order. Water currently contains a large number of various impurities, particles of salts, iron oxides. All this settles on the filter meshes and leads to contamination of the device, it ceases to function. To prevent this from happening, you need to clean the aerator in a timely manner.

How to clean the aerator:

  • Disassemble the aerator: use a wrench, pliers or hand to unscrew it clockwise,
  • Remove the cylinder with screens from the valve body,
  • Disassemble the cylinder into all the parts of which it consists,
  • Clean the individual elements under a strong water jet,
  • Assemble and install.

Cleaning the aerator, as you can see, does not require much difficulty. This can be done very simply, with your own hands, without resorting to the help of specialists. Replacing the old nozzle is just as easy, you only need to have a new one on hand.

Beautiful lighted aerator

If you are a connoisseur of any aesthetic trifles, or you have small children, then you will like the aerator with lighting for the bathroom. They are made mainly of brass with a shiny finish. This design is complex. Inside the case there is a micro-turbine with an electric generator and a thermal sensor with diodes. This device does not require an electrical connection.

The illuminated aerator attaches to the faucet just as easily as a normal aerator. You can screw it in by hand, without any special tools. When the faucet is opened, the jet illumination turns on automatically.

Illuminated aerator looks great on the internet made in hi-tech or modern style

The color change of the jet depends on its temperature. The highest temperature of such a nozzle should not be higher than 60 degrees.

Colors that are completely dependent on temperature:

  • Green - its temperature is below 29 degrees,
  • Blue - its temperature is from 30 to 38 degrees,
  • Red - its temperature is higher than 39 degrees.

Such an aerator performs not only a decorative function, but also a practical one. It promptly signals a change in the temperature of the water in the tap. With illumination, the aerator will not leave indifferent neither a child nor an adult.

Flexible or swivel faucet aerator

All aerators always have a standard diameter, as well as a thread. To replace the device there are no problems, you just need to buy it in the store. If the mixer is unusual, and has a rectangular spout, then of course a conventional aerator will not work. You need a special repair kit for a particular model of crane.

The swivel aerator for the mixer allows it to work in shower mode. Thanks to its swivel connection, the flow of water, consisting of many streams, can be redirected in any direction you want.

Among the advantages of a rotary aerator, practicality should be noted.

Rotary aerator is used not only for the bathroom, but also for the kitchen. Such aerators are installed to save water.

The aerator saves water consumption due to its following qualities:

  • Increase the amount of water in the tap,
  • The tip can be rotated 360 degrees
  • Eliminate pollution efficiently.

The rotary aerator can change the angle of inclination and the strength of the jet, it also allows you to select the mode of incoming water. The rotary aerator has two modes: spray jet and single jet. This aerator is very easy to use. A flexible aerator is used in the same way as a rotary one. Its peculiarity is that it is suspended from the crane on a hose. This allows you to collect water in any container. Even if it does not fit in the sink itself or is at a distance from it.

An aerator is a small but very useful device that saves a considerable amount of water and is a coarse filter. It also saturates the water with oxygen, it becomes softer and more foamy. Helps eliminate the noise of running water. To some extent eliminates excess chlorine from water. And while in our time they have not come up with a better device, the aerator combines strength and efficiency.

Why do you need an aerator for a mixer: design and principle of operation
A faucet aerator is a small device that is placed on a water faucet. In the plumbing system, it has two main functions: useful and decorative.

Today, most plumbing fixtures from European manufacturers (Grohe, Hansa, Hansgrohe, Ideal Standard, Damixa, Roca, Laufen, Oras, Jacob Delafon, Geberit, Gustavsberg, WasserKRAFT, Mora Armatur, Villeroy & Boch, Keramag, VitrA, Kludi, Plados, etc. ) are “sharpened” so that consumers can save water and at the same time not experience discomfort. To do this, water-saving technologies are being introduced into faucets, shower heads, and toilet bowls. We'll talk about this.

Two-valve models are the least economical, in which the "setting" of the flow of the desired temperature and intensity takes longer. The design of a single-lever mixer allows you to set the temperature and water flow with a slight movement (provided that the lever moves smoothly, without jerks), as well as change the flow rate without changing the temperature. Manufacturers have included several ways to save water in single-lever models, including hot water, which, as you know, is more expensive.

In traditional faucets, the water flow rate is approximately 12 l/min, while in faucets with the Eco function, it is reduced by almost 60%, to 5 l/min.

Aeration

Almost everyone is equipped with an aerator - a device built into the tip of the spout. Mixing at the exit into the air stream gives at least 10-15% water savings. At the same time, the restriction of the flow is imperceptible, on the contrary, the jet becomes voluminous, foamy, more pleasant to touch.

Limiting the flow can be done in several ways. For example, using an elastic ring or membrane built into the aerator. This reduces water consumption by 60%, i.e. up to 5 l/min. Another way is a two-stage adjustment of the control lever. Its slight resistance will serve as a signal for the transition from economy mode to maximum flow mode. Manufacturers call this technology differently (Eco-Save - Damixa, Eco-Plus - Kludi, "green" eco-button - Oras, Eco-Disk - Roca), but its goal is the same - 50–60% water savings, that is, 5– 7.5 l/min vs. 12-13 l/min.

temperature limiter

Suit U model (8990 rubles). Photo: Noken

If saving hot water is important to you, if you want to protect your loved ones (especially young children and the elderly) from burns, ask when choosing a mixer if the model you like has such protection. Its essence lies in the fact that the mixer will never let hot water in without first mixing it with cold water. For example, Gustavsberg faucets are equipped with an integrated Ecotemp blocker. A characteristic click will notify that the water temperature has reached 40 ° C. Kludi, Grohe, VitrA, Roca, Hansgrohe, Noken and other manufacturers solve the problem of saving (by 10–15%) hot water in a different way. They offer "cold" opening models, in which, when opened, cold water comes out first, and not mixed. To get warm or hot, turn the knob to the left. The movement of the handle to the right is blocked.

Contactless controller

Aleo (about 8 thousand rubles). Photo: Jacob Delafon

The strictest controller for water consumption is a contactless mixer. Its body is equipped with an optical sensor (infrared sensor) of movement and an electronic module that activates the flow of water. The magnetic valve locks or lets already mixed water into the spout, the temperature of which is set in advance using an external regulator-lever on the body or an adjustment screw built into the mixer. Often, the user does not assume that it is possible to save water by simply reconfiguring the cartridge (although this is only included in single-lever models). Often, the economy mode is preset at the factory, but the user can adjust it independently during installation and even during operation to suit his needs. It is necessary to remove the lever and the protective plate. Then, using a screwdriver, tighten the screw passing through the cartridge rod, which will limit the movement of the cartridge and, accordingly, the flow of water. For some manufacturers, by reconfiguring the cartridge, you can also solve the problem of saving hot water.

It is estimated that 100 liters of water are consumed in 12 minutes of washing in the shower, but usually we spend half the time and, accordingly, water on a hygienic morning shower. While taking a bath, we spend 140–200 liters of water.

Economic shower solutions

Looking at the ceiling-mounted watering can, you involuntarily wonder: how much water do you need to use to feel the charm of a real tropical downpour? When designing ceilings, they use the same technologies as in faucets: mixing air, embedding in a shower head and even a hose (for Kludi) devices that regulate the flow of water. Thus, it is possible to save water by 60%.

For example, the huge Rainshower Jumbo (Grohe), whose diameter is 400 mm and the number of nozzles is 252, needs only 8.5 l / min to function and give the user the pleasure of water. A characteristic feature of the Sensum collection (Roca) is the NightRain function: water is mixed with air, resulting in savings of up to 25-35% (compared to Rain mode).

Another device that allows you to reduce water consumption is an eco-jet. To put the mechanism into action, the swivel ring on the watering can must be set to the Eco pointer. The water-saving mechanism in the shower head will block part of the water-carrying channels inside the latter. As a result, the flow volume will be reduced by 50%.

Anti-burn systems

The best way to ensure comfort and save water and energy is a thermostatic mixer (thermostat). The thermostat control valve is equipped with a temperature limiter, which prevents accidental water supply above 38 °C. If you want to take a hot shower, it will be enough to release the lock by pressing a button. It is noteworthy that in the event of a sudden shutdown of cold water, the hot water supply will be blocked. When the supply is resumed, the mixer will immediately dispense water at the programmed temperature. Such a mixer is primarily relevant in the shower.

Most require 6 liters of water for a complete cleaning. That's just for one flush, and even a small family flushes the toilet many times during the day. There is an exit.

Toilet bowls with a dirt-repellent, perfectly smooth surface (each manufacturer has its own secrets of cleanliness) can reduce the use of chemicals by 80-90%, reduce the time for cleaning the device and save water.

The current standard in the EU is 6/3 liters of water: 6 liters for the main and 3 liters for the half. New products from leading manufacturers break stereotypes. For example, in the latest Villeroy & Boch models, the standard is 4.5/3 liters (including one liter of clean water, which provides additional reinforcement for flushing beyond the water seal). Gustavsberg products in Scandinavia come with settings as low as 4/2 liters of water (there regulators do not require an additional liter of clean water when flushing). The same models are delivered to Russia with a 6/3 l setting.

No rim

Z-Line (10,130 rubles). Photo: VitrA

A contribution to the hygiene of the appliance and saving water was made by the innovative, so-called rimless design of the toilet bowl, which was called by different manufacturers Rimfree (Keramag), Rimless (Laufen), Rim-Ex (VitrA), DirectFlush (Villeroy & Boch), Rimove (Jacob Delafon), Hygienic Flush (Gustavsberg), Clean Rim (Roca), Clean On (Cersanit). Unlike a standard appliance, in such a toilet the open edge (small protrusion) remains, but the inner edge in the bowl is removed). The powerful swirling flush system of these toilets covers and cleans the entire bowl of the toilet. With its power, this system is more economical. It is easier to keep the device clean, strong chemicals are not required. It is noteworthy that rimless toilets use 4/2 or 4.5/3 liters for flushing, which saves about 30% of water.

Nebia Shower is a redesigned shower head that saves both water and heat without sacrificing comfort. According to the developers, such a shower consumes only 2-3 liters of water per minute, while a conventional nozzle is about 9-10.

Once the famous designer and architect Richard Fuller suggested using 90% compressed air in the shower and only 10% water in the form of sprayed drops. Thus, he claimed that only 1 liter of water per hour would be used. 50 years have passed, but we still use the same and all its developments remained on paper.

So in 2015, young Nebia set out to create a revolutionary shower that uses similar technology, albeit without a compressed air component, to drastically save water in the shower.

There is no compressed air bottle, it's much easier, the Nebia nozzle sprays water into tiny droplets that cover "10 times more area" than water drops from a regular nozzle, which allows you to wash more efficiently, since more water comes into contact with body. As well as heating the air around the drops is more efficient. They call it a "warm and cozy mist" that not only purifies your body, but is far superior to taking a classic shower in general. Watch the video:

Such a shower consumes only 2-3 liters of water per minute, while a conventional nozzle is about 9-10. If you calculate this for 4 people, you can save about 80,000 liters of water per year, and if you also calculate the heating savings, then a very interesting amount comes out.

Especially these economical showerheads are a good investment for institutions and businesses that use a lot of water in their showers, allowing them to conserve water and save money on both water and heating costs. No wonder this one was such a hit on Kickstarter.

Although you can not wait until such a high-tech nozzle appears on the market, but use a more economical nozzle, for example, from a garden sprayer. Which can be placed in the shower. This will save up to 20% water.

This small device will allow you to save from 30 to 70% of the water used while using the shower. At the same time, you save not only on payments for the water itself, but also for water disposal, that is, you get a double benefit.

The design of the water-saving shower head is such that it restricts the normal flow of tap water. Typically, the outflow of water from the water supply is 12-20 liters per minute, and with the installation of a nozzle, it will be 6-8 liters per minute. For our customers, we have selected nozzles with optimal water flow characteristics so that significant resource savings are achieved, but at the same time there is no big difference in water pressure.

The shower head is very easy to install by yourself, no need to call a master plumber. It has standard thread diameters and is suitable for most modern faucets, shower hoses and watering cans. There are two ways to install the nozzle:
- between faucet and shower hose;
- between the shower hose and the watering can.

In the following picture, you can see an example of installing a nozzle between a faucet and a shower hose.

Such a nozzle is an assistant, imperceptible to the user, but noticeable to the owner - the payer for utilities. If you are the owner or manager of a hotel, hostel, sports and fitness center, baths, saunas, etc., if you have a large family or simply have lovers of splashing in the shower, we recommend that you install water-saving nozzles in showers.

Thousands of our customers have already successfully used a water-saving shower head, thereby saving not only their money, but also natural resources.

P.S. By the way, our water-saving nozzles took part in the filming of the program "Miracle of Technology" on NTV. .

Following the Europeans, the Russians are beginning to be more careful about water consumption. However, saving on luxury is not a hindrance, and plumbing innovations make this process easy, enjoyable and even exciting.

Single lever mixers

Water saving nozzles. You can switch to an economical water consumption model using stop-start nozzles or an aerator mesh for an old mixer. Some SmartBoy nozzles are designed in such a way that when the central rod is turned, the maximum fixed water flow is set. Other models have the option to automatically shut off the water supply after 5-35 seconds. You can set the shutdown time yourself.

With this faucet with aerator, you can regulate the flow of water (up to 2.5 l / min.).

Cold welcome. Another “smart” water management mechanism from Roca is Cold Start. When the mixer is opened in the front position, only cold water flows out of the tap. To get mixed flow, you need to exit economy mode.

flow regulators. Hansgrohe EcoSmart technology limits the water flow of Hansgrohe and Ahog mixers to 5 l/min. (for comparison: previous generation models consume 14 l / min.). The water in these mixers is aerated: the jet saturated with air becomes softer and more voluminous. At high pressure, the built-in annular flow restrictor becomes flat and partially blocks the culvert.

restrictive cartridges. These latest control devices reduce water consumption by 50%. For example, Roca Plus with Hidrocontrol technology gives you the choice between economical and maximum water consumption. The mechanism is as follows: when the lever is raised, the flow of water increases until the user feels the resistance of the elastic regulator. This is a sign of transition to the limit flow mode.

Find for housewives. The water-saving kitchen solution from Kludi, whose all taps are equipped with s-pointer eco aerators with a water flow rate of 6.5 l/min, is Swing & Stop. You can turn off the water by turning the tap itself to the side, which is easily done even with your elbow. If you return the mixer to its original position, the water will flow again.

Electronic mixers. The basis of the operation of contactless faucets of the brands Oras, Hansgrohe, Roca, Kludi, Hansa, Gessi and others is a photocell that reacts to the movement of the hand. Water flows only when you raise your palms. The temperature is fixed: 38 °C (thermostats are indispensable helpers in saving water and electricity), the miracle tap works in pulsed mode from four AA batteries.

Economical shower heads

Solution from Grohe. Grohe EcoJoy ® technology provides both automatic and user-adjustable water savings. And the 130 and 160 mm Rainshower® shower heads use 20% less water than standard shower heads.

Examples of shower heads with automatic water flow limitation.

Solution from Vitra. Vitra shower systems use water flow regulators that reduce the performance from 20 to 7-8 l/min. This results in a net water saving of 60%.

Solution from Hansgrohe. EcoSmart technology's air mixing feature limits water flow to 6 l/min, which is 60% more economical than average, while maintaining the comfort of water procedures.

Economical shower cabins

Independent approach. The Templa Rubenus shower enclosure from Ruben has its own pump. It does not depend on the pressure in the water supply system, and if a conventional cabin spends 200-350 liters in hydromassage mode in 10 minutes, then only 40 liters circulating between the watering can and the pan will be enough for the eco-option! The disadvantage of the system is the lack of disinfection and filtration.

Economic baths

Saving luxury is not a hindrance. Roca has developed an innovative solution for the hot tub: In-Flow: 75 liters of water is enough for complete relaxation with hydromassage.

Economical toilets and urinals

Two flush modes. Economical models have two flush keys on the tank, large and small. For example, Geberit built-in systems are equipped with a two-volume flush (3 l/6 l) or flush/stop technology with manual interruption. The volume of both small and large flushes can be adjusted manually. The Ido firm (Finland) offers the Trevi E toilet bowl, which consumes only 4 liters with a large drain. Annual water savings with this model is 6.5 thousand liters per each family member.

Thanks to the special design of the siphon, the urinal can be used without a water connection.

Pictured: 7517 00 XX urinal from Villeroy & Boch.

Waterless urinals. In addition to models that use just 1 liter of water to flush, there are Subway urinals from Villeroy & Boch and Arkitekt from Vitra, which do not require water at all. The mechanism consists of a replaceable cartridge with a hydraulic lock. The liquid in it is lighter than water, so drains and odors are completely absorbed.

Reuse of water. The development of Roca W + W (washbasin + wc - “sink + toilet bowl”) is a monoblock of a sink and toilet bowl with an odor filtering system. The essence of the concept is the possibility of reusing water from the sink to fill the toilet bowl. Water savings - 25%.
