Installation of interior doors. How to install interior doors: a step-by-step guide

Wanting to install an interior door with their own hands, many overestimate their strength. Without the necessary tools and certain skills in working with the material, you can hopelessly ruin an expensive product. If the decision is made, you must first familiarize yourself with the installation rules and scrupulously follow the recommendations of professionals.

Do-it-yourself installation of interior doors: step-by-step instructions

The process of installing doors between rooms with your own hands begins with the implementation of certain actions. Let's describe step by step the stages of the work performed:

  1. Remove the old door from its hinges, then tear off the cash. You can use a hammer and a wide chisel or a small hatchet for this. Using a bent crowbar, you should dismantle the old box.
  2. Then you need to prepare an opening for the door to be installed. If its dimensions fit, everything remains as it was. If it is necessary to enlarge the opening, a puncher should be used. The width of the opening must exceed the dimensions of the door leaf by 10 cm, and the height by 5 cm.
  3. Use a clean, level surface to fit the box. First, the upper horizontal part is fitted. You can calculate its length by adding to the width of the doors twice the thickness of the vertical frame struts and 6 mm as the required gap to ensure the free movement of the door leaf. Then you need to adjust the height of the uprights. It should be borne in mind that for a door without a threshold, the length should be increased by 10 mm. Another 3 mm must be left in the upper gap.
  1. After that, they begin to cut into the canvas and the hinge box. For this, grooves must be hollowed out at a distance of 200 mm from the edges of the canvas. The inset of the loops begins with their attachment to the canvas to mark the boundaries of the grooves. The work must be done with a milling cutter or chisel. It is advisable to varnish the resulting grooves, otherwise the tree will dry out over time. Then it is required to put a loop in the prepared bed and outline the places for fastening the screws. It is best to pre-drill them using a drill bit slightly smaller than the thickness of the screw. After that, you can screw the hinges with screws, while their halves with a ledge are attached to the box, and those with a hole - to the door.
  2. Now you can finally assemble the box by joining its parts at a 45 ° angle. You can fasten the box with self-tapping screws.
  3. Lift the box carefully and begin installing it inside the opening. Carefully check with the level the verticality of the product, the perpendicularity of its components and the horizontalness of the bar from above. The gaps formed in the opening should be eliminated using wooden wedges, and then polyurethane foam.
  4. After installing the box, it must be fixed with dowels.

Here are the steps to follow. The video "How to install an interior door with your own hands" will help you finally understand all the details:

Installation of sliding interior doors

There are many different options for sliding doors. They differ in material, appearance, and other characteristics, although the principle of operation and design remain unchanged. Any such system has a canvas, rollers and guides.

Important: Do-it-yourself installation of sliding interior doors is carried out in different ways, it all depends on the purpose for which the sliding door is mounted. It is usually installed to save space, since it frees up the space that is needed to open the swing door.

Schematically, the installation of the structure is divided into the following stages:

  1. Installation of guides.
  2. Fastening holders and accessories to the door leaf.
  3. Installation of doors.
  4. Installation of door closers and limiters.
  5. Fastening of extensions and platbands.
  6. Final adjustment.

A detailed installation of sliding interior doors with your own hands is shown in the video:

Installation of interior doors with extensions

If the thickness of the existing opening exceeds the width of the box, then to add aesthetics, you have to use extensions, fixing them directly to the block. The advantage of such components is the uniformity of all structural elements, quick installation. Before fastening, it is necessary to determine the dimensions of the extensions. To do this, measure the required width of the strip by inserting a box into the opening and measuring the open width of the opening.

Important: Doors can be cut to size with a circular saw.

To fix the add-on, it is necessary to screw the mounting strips on its reverse side and connect them to the box.

It is enough to use three fasteners on each element. Then you should install a box with an extension in the opening and fix it. After that, you need to go through all the cracks with professional foam.

Installation of butterfly hinges

Overhead loops, referred to as "Butterflies"- do not need a tie-in, they are easy to install. It is enough just to attach the product to the door end and to the box, fasten it with self-tapping screws so that the door is ready for use.

Let's take a closer look at this process:

  • We apply a hinge to the door end, keeping a distance of 20 cm from the edge.
  • We mark with an awl the points where it is required to make holes for self-tapping screws.
  • The inside of the hinge is attached to the door and the outside to the frame.
  • We drill according to the hole marks.
  • We fasten the hinges.

Installing the lock and handles in the door leaf

To install a lock in an interior door with your own hands, you should follow these procedures:

  • Measure 90 cm from the floor, attach the lock case to the obtained point.
  • Mark the place where the handles will be attached.
  • Drill a through hole in the place where the handles are attached.
  • Mark the boundaries of the lock mechanism niche on the door end, then drill a recess under it with a feather drill.
  • Check the depth, for which insert the lock into the recess. Then make a small niche with a chisel, into which the fastening strip of the lock mechanism will enter.
  • Treat all grooves with varnish.
  • Fasten the lock with screws and attach the handles to it.
  • Embed the counterpart of the lock mechanism in the same way.

Fasteners for cash machines

Installation work is being completed on the installation of doors between the rooms with fasteners for cash-boxes. This process is straightforward.

If you take control of the installation of interior doors, you are guaranteed to avoid problems during their operation. The technique for installing door blocks is very simple, but compliance with the installation rules remains the main guarantee of a good result. Our instructions will explain the main points in more detail.

Placement and preparation of openings

The doors of the living rooms should open into these rooms so that people passing along the corridor do not bump into the end of the suddenly swung open sash. There is not enough room in the bathroom and toilet to accept an open sash, and opening in this direction can block access to the bathroom if an unconscious person is lying on the floor.

The edge of the doorway should be at least 12 cm away from the corner. This is done for convenient wallpapering of the corner, installing the platband without trimming, and next to it - the connecting corner of the plinth and its end cap. In load-bearing walls, the minimum pillar of the wall is almost always present; in the partitions, the opening will have to be expanded and the door removed from the corner with a distance bar.

There are three standard web widths: 600, 700 and 800 mm, the opening width should be 100 mm larger than the web. This stock fits two 25 mm stanchions, the gaps between them and the canvas and two 20 mm gaps to form a foam seam. The standard door height is 200 cm; for the opening, this value is taken 60 mm higher.

Assembling the door block

Modern door frames are assembled from wood or wall-mounted MDF profiles. They are calibrated in size and cross-section, therefore, for a correct connection, only an accurate trimming is needed. The side pillars are cut 15-17 mm longer than the door leaf. The upper bar is installed on the posts, and not between them, its length is 20 mm less than the opening width. The protruding edges of the plank can be cut off completely after the block is assembled, or the edges can be removed only on the seamy part, where there is a groove for installing extensions.

It is convenient to assemble the details of the box, having previously laid them out on the floor in the shape of the letter "P", orienting the porches upward. A door is inserted into the box, then gaps of 2 mm from the hinge side and from the top and 3 mm from the handle side are set using spacer plates or folded paper.

Details are fastened with anodized self-tapping screws 60-80 mm long with preliminary drilling of the edges of the horizontal crossbar, or on furniture confirmations. There should be at least two attachment points so that the block posts do not rotate. Additionally, it is necessary to install a crossbar at the bottom of the door: a regular strip is attached to the ends of the upright ones from the side of the platbands, which will hide the traces of the nails.

Insert hinges and fittings

This is the most difficult stage of installation, requiring manual woodworking skills. It is recommended to install hinges before starting the installation of the block in the opening, and it is better to cut all the rest of the fittings into the already hinged door.

Hinges are of two types: double-sided and one-sided tie-in, the difference comes from the name. The insert is made exactly under the hinge plate to a depth of 2.5 mm; in the case of a one-sided insert, it is made into the box, but not into the door. The location of the loops is 25 cm from the bottom and top of the canvas.

First, the marking is done: on the door and the box in which it is embedded, combined risks are applied, indicating the edges of the hinge. The door is removed from the opening and the hinges are attached according to the marks without a tie-in, they are simply screwed on with two screws. The metal plate must be cut around with a sharp cutting knife so that the veneer or laminate trim is perfectly even. The depth of the cut must be at least 4-5 mm.

The sampling can be done with a 2.5 mm finger cutter. You can also do it manually; this will require a well-sharpened chisel about 15-20 mm wide. First, you need to apply a series of notches across the sample with an interval slightly less than the width of the chisel, a depth of about 3 mm. Then each resulting plate is pry on and torn off with a chisel.

Most of the defect in work occurs due to the fact that, with excessive force, the tool breaks off and damages the face layer. Therefore, you do not need to press hard on the chisel, frequent and weak hammer blows are enough.

The chisel should be guided only along the door or upright, pressing it against the wood with the beveled edge of the blade. It is very important to carefully clean the corners and remove the material with thin shavings, periodically trying on the loop in place.

To insert fittings, you need to mark a rectangle on the end of the door, equal in size to the hidden part of the lock or handle. According to the width of the groove, the diameter of the pen drill is selected and the drilling sites are marked with an overlap of 1.5-2 mm. Before sampling along the marks, you must first go through a 4 mm drill. The manufactured niche is cleaned with a chisel with periodic fitting of the hidden part. As a result, the face plate should lie on the end of the door without gaps.

Further operations are the same as when installing the hinges: temporary fastening with screws, trimming the veneer with a sharp knife, and recessing with a chisel or cutter for the plate. Before the final fixing of the lock itself, you need to transfer the marking of the holes for the square rod of the handles to both sides of the door and drill the door through it with a drill of about 10 mm.

Twist the decorative washers and place the handles on the square, then secure them with 3-4 small screws. On the inside of the handles, you need to find and tighten a small hidden screw to fix the square.

Door installation

The installation itself is extremely simple. If the door has four bays, the floor is first cut into the floor exactly to the width of the threshold. The box is put in place and aligned vertically in two planes.

Using the mounting wedges, you must first unfold the box from the top of the opening, and then along the sides. The door with spacers is located inside the unit. For temporary fixation and careful alignment, the door frame is fixed with self-tapping screws on plastic plugs, two attachment points on each side. By screwing and unscrewing the self-tapping screws and tightening the wedges, it is necessary to align the front ones and ensure that the door remains stationary in any position.

After that, the gap between the block and the opening is well moistened with a hand spray and filled with polyurethane foam to 2/3 of the joint thickness. During foam polymerization (35-40 minutes) the door should remain closed with spacer plates lined.

Door soundproofing, installation of accessories and platbands

For a tighter fit on the edge of the false groove, you can glue a soft door seal. From the side of the hinges, it is attached to the wide end of the porch, and from the other three sides - on the narrow one. Additionally, sound insulation can be improved by installing a special sealing brush on the lower end of the blade.

Platbands, depending on whether they have a semicircular or rectangular profile, are installed, respectively, with an oblique and straight undercut. A 45 ° cut is made in the miter box with a fine-toothed hacksaw or a circular arm saw.

To install the add-ons, you must first plaster and prime the slopes so that the gap between the plaster and the panel is no more than 2-3 mm. MDF strips are cut lengthwise and across according to the size of the slope, inserted with the cut edge into the groove of the doorway and glued to the plaster with liquid nails. The top panel is installed first, then the side ones. After the glue has dried, the platbands are installed.

Success in self-installation of interior doors can be achieved if the solution to this problem is correctly approached. On the one hand, such work is not difficult to carry out, but on the other hand, there are a number of nuances that must be taken into account during the installation process. Before installing an interior door, it is important to think over an algorithm of actions. At the same time, if you do the work without preparing, then this can affect the final result. Theoretical training in the question of how to put such door structures is of great importance. Even in the absence of experience, interior doors can be installed competently and reliably.

Preparatory work

Before studying the theory of installing interior doors and proceeding with the installation of the structure, it is necessary to consider the issue of preparatory work. In no case should this stage be ignored, otherwise a simple and quick installation of doors can turn into a real nightmare. First of all, it is necessary to pay attention to two points.

First you need to make sure that the door block is in full compliance with the opening. The optimal situation will be if, after the installation of the structure, a gap of 2-3 centimeters remains on all its sides. This will make it possible to easily expose the door frame to the level of one plane with the opening.

This is not difficult to achieve. If the opening is too narrow in relation to the door block, then it can be widened with a hammer drill or hammer drill. In the case when the doorway is too wide, it is possible to use a wooden beam to reduce its dimensions. In general, a gap of up to five centimeters is considered normal.

One simple tool can be used to perfectly fit the door unit. It is required to attach three even wooden slats across the box. One at the bottom, the second at the top, and the third in the middle of the structure. These slats will allow the door unit to be aligned with the opening.

To avoid damage to the surface of the door frame, you can fix the slats by placing wooden strips under them. They should be screwed to the end of the box. In addition, the length of the slats must be chosen in such a way that, after installing the door frame in the opening, the slats rest against the walls. By the way, there are a few more nuances that will help you complete the installation without unnecessary difficulties.

First of all, the slats need to be fixed on the side of the door block into which the door will open. In addition, they must be fixed after installing the door frame in the opening and the formation of gaps of the required size between the patch and the opening.

You can use thick cardboard folded in half to fix the box. It is very important at the stage of preparatory work to perform the two steps described above. Without carrying out these procedures, it is not recommended to start installing the door block, because in this case, the risk of skewing the entire structure significantly increases. After carrying out these manipulations, you can proceed directly to the independent installation of interior doors.

Self-assembly of interior doors

After completing the preparatory work and preparing all the necessary tools, you can begin to install the interior doors. From the tools you will need a hammer, a short rack level and a crowbar. In addition, it is necessary to purchase a cylinder with low pressure polymerization foam during polymerization. An example is Macroflex 65 foam. You should also prepare wood wedges. Today there is a proven technology on how to put interior doors correctly. You can see the installation process in the video.

The first step is to put the door block in the opening. During this process, it is important to pay special attention to the side to which the structure is being installed. It is advisable to be in the place where the door will open when performing the installation. Now you should set the structure in the center of the opening. By moving the door block to the right or left, it is necessary to ensure the same gaps between the structure and the walls on both sides.

The next step is to make sure that the vertical position of the door frame pillars is correct. For this, you can use a rack level. It must be applied from the bottom of the upper transverse lintel. If the level is not observed, you will need to use a crowbar, using it to raise the desired rack and place wooden wedges under it.

After that, the door block should be fixed to the partitions. To do this, drill holes with a diameter of 6 mm in the protruding part of the wooden lintels. Then dowels are driven into these holes. In the process of fixing the door block, it is necessary from time to time to check the position of the structure relative to the side walls.

After that, the door frame and the opening should be wetted with water. This procedure is carried out in order to increase the polymerization of the polyurethane foam and its adhesion to the walls of the opening. Then you need to once again make sure that the correct position of the door frame is maintained. For this, a rack level is used. In addition, it is necessary to check the presence of gaskets made of cardboard between the door leaf and the door. If some fell out during the execution of work, then they must be returned to their place.

At the next stage, it is necessary to fill the gaps between the door block and the partitions using polyurethane foam. After that, you need to let the foam grab and dry. This will take several hours. As a rule, polyurethane foam cures completely in 6-10 hours. By the way, polyurethane foam is a poisonous material. Protective gloves can be worn to avoid the unpleasant consequences of skin contact. In addition, it is necessary to protect the surface of the products with masking tape, pasting the door block around the perimeter with it.

After that, all aids must be removed. Now they are no longer needed. So, with the help of a screwdriver, the dowels and self-tapping screws are dismantled, which secure the jumpers in the door frame. Then you need to remove the slats themselves and open the door. The cardboard pads should fall to the floor by themselves after opening the door.

Doorway finishing

The question of how to correctly install the door blocks is not limited only to the installation of the structure itself. After the interior doors are mounted, it is necessary to carry out work on finishing the doorway. The way this procedure is carried out depends on the width of the doorway, as well as the type of mounted door unit. In the case of a thin partition, such as at the entrance to the bathroom, it is possible to finish using only the trims. This option is the simplest and most labor-intensive. The acquired set of platbands is fixed on both sides of the door structure, closing the foam-filled gaps between the frame and the partitions.

If we are talking about wide doorways, then their decoration is carried out using the same platbands or additional strips. They may differ from the color of the door leaf, especially since contrasting solutions have become popular recently. The sentry bar can be cut to the required width, and it should be fixed with construction glue.

In addition, it should be emphasized that one of the ways to finish the doorway is to plaster the slopes. This method is especially appropriate when installing wooden door blocks. The fact is that the cement-sandy plaster mortar favorably emphasizes the door structures made of natural wood. At the same time, this type of finish is not recommended for fiberboard door frames. This material is not compatible with the high moisture content of materials used for plastering.

After installing the door block, installing the platbands with your own hands is not particularly difficult. It is necessary to cut the edge of each casing at a 45 degree angle and secure them to the door frame. For these purposes, you can use glue, finishing nails or screws. The caps of the studs are subsequently rubbed off, and the screws are hidden with the help of decorative plastic plugs.

As practice shows, the installation of interior doors is a fairly simple procedure. But, only subject to the observance of the installation technology and the sequence of work. A reasonable approach to business will allow you to perform all the manipulations without much effort and problems.

Caring for interior doors

It is important to remember that a technically competent and accurate installation of interior doors can easily be leveled by lack of maintenance of the structure and improper operation. Interior doors are recommended to be used indoors at temperatures from +15 to +35 C °. In this case, the air humidity should not exceed 70%. It is important that the door block is not affected by sudden temperature fluctuations and changes in humidity in the apartment.

By the way, it will be emphasized that special attention should be paid to the operation of interior doors in rooms equipped with sealed windows. If the rooms are not ventilated, excess moisture can develop in them, which is likely to cause damage to the structural elements of the door structure. So, the door can swell, the finishing material peels off.

In addition, it is strictly forbidden to install MDF doors in those rooms in which there is a constantly high air temperature and humidity. These facilities include swimming pools, saunas and baths. However, it is not recommended to install such structures in rooms without heating, with cement or earthen floors. At the same time, it is allowed to operate interior doors with short-term exposure to moisture. In this case, a prerequisite is the ventilation of the premises. An example of such an object is a bathroom.

In the course of using interior doors, the opening and closing of the curtain should be carried out exclusively in ways that do not entail damage to the structure and platbands. In addition, even if the door is equipped with a wear-resistant coating, rough mechanical stress on the structure should be avoided. Otherwise, chips, cracks, burrs and abrasions are likely to appear. Such defects will significantly impair the aesthetic appearance of the door block.

An interior door, like furniture in a room or other interior items, needs careful treatment and attention. To preserve the aesthetic appearance of the structure, it is enough to periodically use special care products. It is necessary to clean the door unit from dirt and dust with a soft cloth or damp cloth. Avoid contact of the structure with various solvents, acidic and alkaline compounds. If you adhere to such simple rules, then the interior doors will delight their owners with aesthetics and a long service life.

In conclusion, it is advisable to emphasize that the whole process called "we put the interior doors on our own", carried out in compliance with the technology and recommendations of professionals, will take about three hours. True, this is not counting the time spent on preparatory work before starting to install the structure with your own hands.

Do-it-yourself installation of interior doors is done in a strict sequence, every moment, even the most insignificant, turns out to be important. If you allow a minor oversight, this will result in major problems with the further operation of the building. The main condition for installation is a perfectly level position vertically and horizontally.

Only if these parameters are observed, the normal opening and closing of the doors will be ensured. Step-by-step instructions for installing interior doors will help you get the job done. The first thing you need to pay attention to is the installation of the door frame.

Complete set of interior structures

Installation of interior doors is carried out after finishing the ceiling and walls. At the installation stage, a sub-floor and a finishing coating are required. The skirting boards are installed after the doors are installed. Complete set of doors:

  1. Cloth without box and lumber. In this case, everything is purchased separately. Lumber is bought, strips are cut to fit the size of the doorway and the corners are filed. In the case of using a standard box, a cloth of the same size is used. Before buying, it is necessary to carry out all measurements so that you do not have to modify the elements. In this case, installing interior doors with your own hands will be as budgetary as possible.
  2. Box and canvas. In this case, both elements will fit each other, you just need to buy lumber, make planks and assemble the structure. It may be necessary to install accessories on interior doors. You need to think about this moment in advance.
  3. Assembled block. All components are assembled and fitted; all that remains is to install the block in the opening, level it and fix it.

If you know how to install an interior door with your own hands, then you can purchase any kit. For beginners, the latter is suitable, since it is the easiest to install. For more experienced craftsmen, the first is best, it is also the most economical. Such structures are not subject to additional adjustment.

Dimensions of door frames

Each country has its own standards, they differ and sometimes significantly. Width of swing doors according to Russian standards:

  • 600 mm;
  • 700 mm;
  • 800 mm;
  • 900 mm.

The same standards are in some European countries (Spain, Italy). The French differ by 1 cm (690, 790, 890 mm). The choice of the standard depends on the owner, but it is best to use the Russian ones, since they have a clear advantage - a wider choice.

If you happen to buy non-standard doors, then it will be difficult to change them later. According to GOST, the width of the opening and the door leaf installed in it depends on the room in which the installation is carried out:

  1. For the kitchen, the height should be 2000 mm, width 700 mm.
  2. In the bathroom, the height is 1900-2000 mm, the width is at least 600 mm.
  3. For residential premises, the width of the opening is 600-1200 mm, and the height is 2000 mm.

But these are standards, in reality it happens that you need to adapt to a certain building. Sometimes it is better to opt for a sliding door. To determine the size of the box and the canvas, you will need to measure the opening. After that, the dimensions of the block are selected. The size should be slightly smaller in order to be able to mount the fasteners and spacers. You need to take these parameters into account before you install the interior door yourself.

At the stage of carrying out measurements, it is necessary to carefully inspect the walls, if necessary, carry out repairs and strengthening. In this case, the door frame will be able to hold much better in the opening. Particular attention should be paid to the condition of the walls if you plan to install heavy doors. You need to attach a wooden block to the wall and plaster it, if possible. This approach will allow you to install interior doors without any particular difficulties in any opening. The thickness of the bar should be 5 cm. After such an improvement, installing the door frame with your own hands will be much easier, and the reliability of the structure will increase.

Everyone can independently install doors from scratch with their own hands if they understand the nuances and design parameters. One important parameter for boxes is depth. According to GOST, the standard is 70-80 mm, but if the wall thickness in the house exceeds this indicator (and this is in most cases), then you need to cheat. Installation of a door frame without a threshold is carried out flush with one wall, but on the condition that the slopes and the opening will not interfere with the opening. The rest of the wall is plastered and finished like the walls in a room. But you can do it with extras: a plank is mounted to match the canvas and platbands. How to assemble platbands, you can find out from the instructions for them.

Assembling door frames

How to put the interior door correctly? The horizontal bar is the headroom, the vertical ones are the jambs (racks). These are the main elements of door frames. If you bought them separately, then you need to put them together. To do this, oilcloth, paper, cardboard are spread on the floor, lay out the planks. All elements are connected.

If the box and the canvas are purchased assembled, then the dimensions will match. In most cases, the installation of a threshold for an interior door is not required. But you need to double-check so that you do not have to start all the work anew. All elements are laid on the floor of the box, between them there is a canvas, the correct installation of interior doors must be done in this way.

Ideally, there should be the same gap around the entire perimeter of the canvas - about 3-4 mm. With such a gap, the doors will open and close normally. Similar requirements for double-leaf interior doors.

A separate story is height adjustment, regardless of whether you are installing doors in an apartment or in a bathhouse. The frames of the box are 12-15 cm larger than the canvas. For correct installation, the racks are abutted against the lags. But during construction, such an installation is used extremely rarely, so the door jambs are shortened to the required size. Installation of the interior door frame is carried out using self-tapping screws.

But be sure to make a hole with a thin drill before screwing in the fasteners. If the strips are sawn at 45 °, it is necessary to drill holes on the side plate. Then you apply it to the horizontal bar and fix it with self-tapping screws. Similarly, do the installation of doors in the bath with your own hands. You just need to pay attention to the material - wood must withstand high temperatures and humidity.

And how to install the interior door yourself if the edges are sawn in the box at right angles? In this case, the whole work is much easier. But you still need to drill holes, especially if the box is made of MDF. Attach the top to the side rail, align the edges and make two holes.

There is a through hole in the upper beam, in the side hole in the end. After that, connect the straps, you get a box. During construction, the lower plank is rarely used. Make sure that the assembled box exceeds the dimensions of the blade in length and width by 3-4 mm. Builders prefer a door frame without a threshold, so the racks have to be cut a little. When installing interior doors without a threshold, there are small advantages.

Quite often it happens that the jambs are larger than necessary. Measure the height of the opening, subtract 2 cm (for filling with polyurethane foam). This value will be the height of the box. Take measurements from all sides, plot the values on the assembled structure and draw a line along which the cut will be made. The excess part is cut off. The installation of interior doors with an extension is not much different. Differences are only in small things, which appear in several moments.

Hinge selection

Before buying accessories, be sure to decide which type you need - left or right. Stand near the opening in which the installation is planned (the canvas should open towards you). This condition is mandatory, try not to confuse the sides. Open up to yourself and see where the movement is going - to the left or to the right. If to the left, then left loops are needed.

If the hinges are right, then the canvas should open to the right. Try not to confuse the hinges, mark the places for their installation. Keep in mind that in some cases it may be necessary to remove the canvas (to take out the furniture), so you need to be sure that this procedure is painless and quick. Installing hinges on a door is a matter that requires special care, since a slight deviation can be worth the fact that the canvas turns out to be crooked.

When installing wooden doors, you need to outline the contour of the hinges and remove the layer with a sharp knife. Pay attention to the thickness of the loops. To make it convenient to make a cut, you need to make a vertical cut along the contour. If you do only horizontal, then the excess wood will be difficult to separate. The cut is performed either with a chisel or with a special machine. Do the same with the door leaf. But sometimes a chisel cannot be beautifully decorated with a cutout. If the canopy falls on a knot, it is necessary to shift to the side. Installing doors on your own will not cause difficulties, but this work is painstaking. Now you need to consider how the awnings are set.

Cut in loops

Separately, you need to consider how the door hinges are installed. The requirements for them are not very serious, it is enough to maintain a distance of 19 cm from the edges. You need to know how to assemble an interior door with your own hands and what tools are required for this.

To install or dismantle the hinges, you will need the following set of tools:

  1. Drills with a diameter of 1-4 mm.
  2. Drill and screwdriver.
  3. Cutter.
  4. Awl.

For MDF doors, 2 hinges are sufficient, since they are lightweight. For heavy ones, you need to put 3 loops - an additional one in the middle. All hinges, regardless of type and price, consist of 2 parts. One half of them has a pin. An important condition: install in such a way that this pin points up. It will be wrong if it turns out to be directed downward.

It is best to cut hinges and door locks directly on the floor, prior to installation. The fittings are fastened after marking and cutting. Attach a loop, mark the contour and make notches with a chisel. Fasten the fittings first on the jamb, then lay the canvas and mark the position of the second part of the hinge on it.

Installation of interior doors in a wooden house is simplified due to the fact that fasteners can even be made with nails. All the grooves are made with a router in a matter of minutes, but in the absence of such a tool, chisels can also be used. When closing the hinges, provide a gap of 4 mm. The installation of laminated doors is practically no different from the installation of wooden doors, there are only minor differences.

Final box assembly

In practice, it turns out that the assembly and installation of interior doors is a painstaking business. Racks and lintels have the shape of the letter "P", install the assembled structure in the opening. Using a level, set the entire structure to zero. Achieve maximum horizontal and vertical evenness. Fix the position of the box with spacers and wedges, pierce the level from time to time. Be sure to make sure that the jambs are parallel to each other, blockage in any direction should be avoided. The convenience of using the doors in the future depends on evenness.

After checking all the installation parameters, fix the box in the opening with self-tapping screws or dowel-nails. The distance between adjacent fasteners should be 0.25-0.3 m. There should be about 2-3 fasteners on the lintel, and 7-8 on the jambs. Holes with a diameter of 4 mm must be drilled in the box, since the caps of self-tapping screws are usually 1-2 mm larger. If you installed a timber between the box and the wall, the installation is much easier. In this case, it is easy to make interior doors, since the fasteners are more reliable.

If the walls are made of shell rock, brick or block, then the installation is more difficult - you need to install the dowel-nails. Note that they must be in the bricks, not in the seams. It is not recommended to put doors on seams. With a 4 mm drill, make a hole in the racks, leave a mark on the wall. Having finished marking all the holes, dismantle the box and check if you hit it correctly. In order not to get into the seams, pay attention to the open areas of the masonry, make marks on the planks. Only after making sure of the accuracy, make holes for the dowel-nails. This is exactly how they do the installation of wooden doors with their own hands. Installation of plastic structures is done in a similar way, only it is easier to work with them - all elements are fitted as accurately as possible.

Do-it-yourself doorway installation is done in the same order, so the guide can be used for this case as well. Then you expose the box and make sure that the holes in it coincide with the dowels. Set the position horizontally and vertically, fix it with wedges and spacers, only then fasten the box to the wall. Do not pull too hard, as it can damage the wood or bend the jamb. Since the installation of canopies was made in advance, further installation of the canvas will not cause difficulties.

Do-it-yourself installation of entrance doors will significantly reduce the cost of the work.

Foaming gaps

After the final fixation, place cardboard between the jamb and the canvas, you need to set it on the foam. Close the door and install spacers and wedges to prevent the box from arching. Fill the gaps between the wall and the box by 1/3 with foam, as the volume increases during the drying process. If there is too much foam, it will bend the planks. To dry, you must leave for a day.

After that, remove the spacers, use a sharp knife to cut off the excess foam and proceed to further work - the installation of an extension or platbands on the interior doors. A layer of putty can be applied to the foam and covered with decorative elements. Do-it-yourself installation of platbands for interior doors will not cause difficulties even for an inexperienced master who has encountered such a procedure for the first time. Correct installation of doors is the key to a long service life of the product.

Application of fasteners and subtleties of the tie-in

Self-tapping screws are sold together with the door hinges. It is with their help that fastening is made. Before screwing them in, you need to make thin holes in the wood. This will prevent the wood from splitting when screwing in. Fittings can be hidden, its installation is a little more difficult - it is necessary to make deeper mounting holes. The hole is best cut with a milling machine. Decide in advance whether you need to install a set of interior doors, everyone can do it with their own hands.

When screwing in the self-tapping screws, make sure that the hinges do not go to the side, align if necessary. With the correct insertion of the loops, they will be located at the same level. If there is even a slight bulge, you need to deepen the platform for the hinge to the required level. Using a ruler, check to see if the canopy is properly planted.

Press the ruler against the hinge and assess the position. If it protrudes strongly, then there will be too much gap between the door leaf and the frame. When the doors are correctly positioned, normal opening at an angle of 180 ° is ensured. In this case, the maximum load on the hinges should not exceed 50 kg. Next, insert parts of the hinges by lifting the canvas. This will allow you to determine as accurately as possible the point at which both canopies will be combined.

When choosing awnings, it is best to opt for hidden ones. They look much better, and the fixing rules are the same. After installation, be sure to check the smoothness of the movement by interlocking the latch on the jamb and the striker plate. If necessary, move the latch. This is required if extraneous noise occurs when the door is closed. The metal tab should be adjusted a little and the noise will disappear. In general, the installation of hinges on interior doors is quite simple, there should be no difficulties. It is enough to act strictly according to the instructions and use the recommendations.

Advantages and disadvantages of sliding interior doors

Do-it-yourself installation of sliding doors is quite simple and does not require significant costs, and the design is much more attractive than conventional swing doors. In total, there are 2 types of interior door designs:

  1. Swinging, the installation of which is discussed above, are attached to the box using movable awnings. This is a traditional option, the range of models on the market is very wide, the view is rich, but one drawback - they take up a lot of space. Do-it-yourself installation of plastic doors will not take much time, but it will be problematic to use them in a small room: they need a lot of space when opening.
  2. Sliding ones are much more convenient, since with their help the space of the room is used more rationally. And the installation of sliding interior doors with your own hands does not take much time, if you carefully study the features of the work.

In turn, sliding doors are divided into 2 types:

  1. Sliding doors built into the wall slide into it and recessed. The design has a mechanism that allows you to move the door parallel to the wall. Rollers are mounted on the canvas, guides on the opening or on top of it. The rollers move along the guides, the opening is cleared for passage.
  2. Installing an accordion door with your own hands will also be a good option. Structurally, they are made of plastic or wooden slats. Moving, they fold and open the opening. But one drawback is that cheap products are extremely inconvenient and impractical. Therefore, if the choice fell on such a design, then it is better to purchase an expensive and high-quality product.

Regardless of the design, all sliding doors have the following advantages:

  1. Non-standard and unusual, very original appearance.
  2. There are no blind zones, they do not interfere with the arrangement of furniture in the rooms.
  3. Complete safety, since there is no risk of hitting the corner of the door. But it is worth making sure that children do not stick their fingers between the door and the wall.
  4. A huge plus - they do not open up drafts.
  5. Installation of the threshold for the interior door is not required in most cases, only if you need to cover the guide at the bottom, a threshold is set.

But there are also significant disadvantages:

  1. The prices for the installation of a sliding door from the masters are simply exorbitant. But if you do all the work yourself, you can cut costs. Do-it-yourself installation of interior compartment doors will reduce costs to a minimum and equate them with the cost of installing swing doors.
  2. Low degree of isolation. We have to install a felt gasket at the end of the door. This is the only way to get rid of the penetration of foreign smells, sounds, light into the room.
  3. It is rather difficult to look after the pencil case through which the door goes. But if you contrive, you can get the job done with a vacuum cleaner. When installing cashing machines that cover the holes, this is problematic.
  4. Repair of such a structure is quite complicated, therefore, when buying, be sure to take a few rollers in reserve. The installation assumes that items that are rarely found on the market will be used. Sometimes people who have installed such structures start repairs after a few years and do not find spare parts in stores. We have to redo the mechanism.

Sliding door components

The main difference between sliding and swing structures is the mechanism of their functioning (rollers or awnings). Sliding interior doors can be equipped with the following mechanisms:

  1. In-wall, which allow you to remove the door leaf inside the wall. But there is one caveat: the system must be started at the time of the construction of the walls, since it will be necessary to leave voids in them. This will make the wall thicker. Due to this, the area of the room will become slightly smaller, but the walls will be freed up.
  2. External, which can be installed at any time, no wall rebuilding is required. In this design, the canvas moves parallel to the wall. Small disadvantage: you need to free a small distance from the walls.

Guides are one of the important structural elements, runners along which the door leaf moves on rollers. They are placed on top, bottom, or on both sides. The sale and installation of such elements is carried out by stores, but it is better to do the installation yourself. Features of location options:

  1. Only the top guides are used - the most common method. It is used only if the weight of the door leaf is low. The advantage is that the risk of rail breakage is extremely low and the service life is high.
  2. If only the lower guides are used, there is a high risk of damaging them during operation. It is extremely difficult to achieve smooth movement of the door without an upper support, and the constant clogging of the runners will make itself felt.
  3. Combined structures are assembled when using doors with a large mass, or to improve the smoothness of the movement.

Preparation for the installation of sliding doors

Since the most popular type is the outdoor design, it is worth focusing on it. Do-it-yourself door installation implies the presence of the following tools and materials:

  1. Door leaf, platbands, box.
  2. Accessories (rollers, guides, locks, handles).
  3. Bars measuring 50x30 mm for fastening the guides.
  4. Hardware.
  5. Level, tape measure, ruler if necessary.
  6. Drill and screwdriver.
  7. Hacksaw.
  8. Chisels.

If the weight of the door exceeds 27 kg, 4 rollers must be used. For lighter structures, 2 will suffice. To avoid wall deformation and damage to wallpaper by handles and locks, use hidden doors cut into the canvas.

At the very beginning, you need to decide on the installation site and the opening side. If you plan to install 2 doors, consider how convenient it will be to use them. If necessary, the old door is removed, a new box is mounted. In living rooms, the gap should be kept about 10 mm. If there is no finished floor, then the laminate, and the screed, and leveling are taken into account.

  1. Measure the width and height of the compartment door. It is advisable to do this at several points (below, in the middle and above). The height of the door should be measured when open and closed.
  2. The timber is being installed. Draw a straight line over the top of the box. From the line to the edge of the box, you need to maintain a distance equal to the width of the guide. The bar is attached to this line. One caveat: the middle of the bar should be located above the right half of the box if the door slides to the right.
  3. The installation of the upper guide profiles is in progress. The runners are fastened to the timber using hardware. Check how the rollers slide along the runners. If necessary, replace the latter, otherwise the functioning of the doors in the house will be accompanied by inconveniences.
  4. The lower runners can be installed in several ways. You can remove some of the flooring, but this is for cases where the installation of a structure with lower rails is required. You can mount the guide directly on the floor, only you have to use such a structure with sills. But builders actively use the installation of doors without a threshold, although they do not allow the guide to collapse. But much more often the rollers are not placed below, they only use a packet knife. With its help, the door adheres and does not deviate from the direction of travel.

Doors with a threshold are used infrequently, without it it is much easier. The reason is the possibility of realizing normal operation, sliding doors of the compartment will be able to work without damaging the floor covering. And this allows you to reduce the time required to maintain the structure.

Sliding doors: assembly and maintenance

At the upper end of the web, rollers are hung, and holes are made at the lower end, between which a groove is knocked out. It should be 2 mm wide - slightly larger than that of the knife. The depth is the same as the height of the knife, in the range of 10-18 mm. The part that does not have a groove acts as a limiter. A door inserted into the grooves in the presence of a limiter is difficult to pull out of its limits.

The installation of fittings is the installation of a lock in an interior door, it is not difficult to do this with your own hands. It is enough to have a simple tool - screwdrivers, pliers. After that, 1 of the important points is performed - do-it-yourself installation of handles on interior doors. All work is done carefully so as not to damage the appearance, otherwise sliding sliding doors will look unattractive. If there is no experience, then it is better to entrust the work to specialists.

The final setting of the sliding compartment doors is to get into the guides. At the end, rubber stoppers are installed, which will prevent the doors from falling out during operation and will make the stop much softer. This design is much better than butterfly hinges, as it provides greater reliability and convenience.

For beauty, you can use decorative elements - platbands, which are installed on the box and upper runners. How to mount them correctly, you can read on the label. It is not necessary to place cash, since the mechanism itself is already an element of decor. To care for sliding doors you need:

  1. Do not allow water to enter the door leaf and mechanism of the sliding door, especially if all elements are made of wood.
  2. Carefully monitor the cleanliness of the runners, remove dirt in a timely manner. If debris gets on them, then the door will not move well and move apart.
  3. Try not to jerk the compartment door or slam it, you do not need to apply force, since the rollers wear out more, sometimes it is possible to "fly out" beyond the limiter. Sliding them back into place can be problematic.
  4. Check the quality of the fittings, change the rollers in a timely manner.
  5. Reinstalling door locks should be done as carefully as possible.

It is clear that installing interior doors from MDF with your own hands or an accordion is a drop in the ocean. It is much more difficult to maintain them in good condition, prevent breakdowns and make timely repairs. In general, they are able to serve no less than simple swing structures. Do-it-yourself installation of compartment doors is a guarantee that an element of novelty will be present in your home.

Self-assembly and installation of interior door blocks does not require high qualifications or special skills from the contractor. Sequential connection of parts in accordance with the instructions and careful installation in the doorway will allow you to get a satisfactory result even with the efforts of a beginner. You just need to stock up on the necessary tools and patience.

Methods for installing interior doors

You can mount a door between rooms in different ways. It all depends on what its design is and what material the door block is made of. Its intended purpose plays a significant role in choosing a particular installation method. If this is, for example, a door to the living room, then special strength is not required. But if the door separates the walk-through corridor from the server room, in which high-sensitivity devices or units with voltages over 1000 volts are located, then in the interests of safety, it is advisable to install a high-strength door. Accordingly, the installation method in the second case must meet completely different requirements.

There are the following ways of fixing the door block in the opening.

  1. Fixing the frame to the foam. The easiest, but not the most reliable, installation method. Suitable for lightweight MDF or MDF doors of small size.

When dry, the mounting foam firmly adheres the door frame to the wall opening

  2. Installation of the door frame on the brackets. As a rule, all plastic doors (as well as windows) are mounted in this way. Metal plates are used as brackets, which are used for suspended ceilings. The thickness of the direct suspension is from 1 to 1.5 mm, so the mount is quite rigid. The main disadvantage of this method is the need to plaster the bracket attachment point. The method is applicable in the case when the walls have not yet been finished.

Ceiling hanger is used as a bracket to fix the door frame

  3. Concealed installation, i.e. fixing the door frame under the hinges in three places. The rest of the space is filled with foam. The result is a rather durable and invisible mount. The suspension points of the frame are arranged in the following order:
    • two - under the hinges;
    • one - under the reciprocal lock bar.
  4. End-to-end method. Installation is carried out using screws or anchors. Holes are drilled in the frame through which it is attached to the wall. Typically, two to four fixation points are used on each vertical stand and from one to two on vertical rungs. So that the holes are not visible, they are closed from above with plastic plugs. This mount is considered the most durable and is used for heavy doors, including metal and armored.

With direct fixing, the frame is rigidly attached to the wall and can hold a heavy and powerful door

  5. Fixing the door frame on the hinges. A new method developed relatively recently. Its essence lies in the fact that the box is suspended on special hinges. Anchors are installed at the ends of the opening, and metal hinges are screwed onto the frame. During installation, the hinge is put on the head of the adjustable bolt. The method is good in cases where the doorway is uneven. Installation is very fast.

A set of simple fasteners allows you to install the door in a matter of minutes

In practice, several methods are often used at the same time, and also combine and combine methods of fixation, depending on the specific situation. In any case, polyurethane foam is almost always used today; it serves not only as a fastener, but also as a heat-insulating and sound-absorbing layer.

What is required to install an interior door

As with any other installation work, special tools and consumables are needed to successfully install interior doors.

Required tools

Getting started with the independent installation of interior doors, you need to arm yourself with the appropriate tool:

  • electric drill with a set of attachments (for screws with different slots);
  • a set of wood drills (the larger the range, the better);

A distinctive feature of wood drills is a sharp tip

  • perforator (in the event that the attachment is carried out on anchor devices);
  • an electric or hand-held furniture saw (the ideal option is an end circular saw);

With the help of a miter saw, blanks for the door frame, platbands and additional elements are quickly and efficiently prepared

  • drill bits or drill bits for concrete (diameter 4 and 6 mm);
  • miter box, a set of chisels of different widths;

The miter box is designed for cutting parts at different angles

  • measuring tool - hydraulic level, tape measure, square, etc .;

The accuracy of measurements during the assembly of interior doors affects the quality of their further operation.

  • knife, pencil, marker.

You will also need consumables:

What cutters are needed to install interior doors

If there is an opportunity to purchase or rent a router, you should definitely use it. With a hand router, the selection of hinges and locks is greatly accelerated. There is no need for chisels, the quality of the grooves is improved. In order to optimize the process, it is advisable to use small diameter cutters. Thanks to this, you will have to cut less wood in the corners by hand. For example, a 9.5 mm cutter is ideal for door hinges. To cut the lock, a groove cutter of the appropriate length is used (to the depth of the insert of the locking device).

The main characteristics of a slot cutter are the height and diameter of its working part, as well as the size of the shank for the cutter clamp

The average time to install one door for a professional carpenter is 2 hours. If the hinges and the lock are cut manually without using a router, this time increases to 3 hours.

Saw for trimming boxes

A few words about the electric saw. When installing one door, of course, it makes no sense to buy a "circular", especially an end door. You can use a regular hand saw with a fine (furniture) tooth.

Using a saw with fine, undisturbed teeth, you can make even and clean cuts of parts

But if there is a construction or reconstruction of an entire apartment in which from 5 to 15 doors are installed, you can at least think about renting a tool. The quality and speed of assembly using a miter saw increases several times... Much also depends on the type of doors and platbands. Some have to be tailored to the required dimensions, while others require little or no cutting.

Preparing the opening for the installation of an interior door

The main task when preparing a doorway is:

  • removing excess materials from the end of the wall (residues of polyurethane foam, plaster, broken bricks, etc.);
  • creating the correct geometric shape of the hole in the wall (rectangle, not trapezoid).

If the brickwork is in poor condition, it must be plastered with cement mortar.

In new buildings, doorways should theoretically have dimensions close to standard ones. However, in practice, this is not always the case. In a house or apartment where reconstruction is taking place, before installing new ones, you need to dismantle the old doors. If at the same time the opening was damaged, it must be restored - leveled and plastered.

The installation quality of the door block is influenced by the following geometric parameters of the opening.

Height

The height is measured from the "clean floor", that is, from the level of the finishing floor covering - laminate, tiles, linoleum, etc. It is necessary that the height is the same over the entire plane. A similar requirement is imposed on the floor - there should be no bumps and pits on it, especially if the door to be installed does not contain a threshold in its design - all defects will remain in sight. The height of the opening should be 6-7 cm more than the vertical dimension of the door itself.

The dimensions of the doorway must take into account the technological tolerances for the installation of the frame and the required mounting clearances.

Width

The same requirements are imposed on the width of the opening - it must be the same over the entire height of the door. Vertical planes should be at right angles to the floor and parallel. If this is not the case, the sidewalls need to be leveled. The width of the doorway is determined based on the width of the door leaf - add 10 cm to it (5 cm on each side).

The thickness (or depth) of the opening

An important condition that must be observed when preparing the opening is that the butt end must have a rectangular shape. In the lower part, at the point of intersection with the floor, a right angle (90 °) should form. If the thickness of the walls is not the same, gaps will form under the platbands, which, in fact, is a marriage.

Do-it-yourself interior door installation: step-by-step instructions

Since the overwhelming majority of doors in the surrounding life have a swing structure, we will consider the installation procedure using a typical interior door as an example.

The most common type of interior doors has a swing opening mechanism.

Rules and procedure for installing interior doors

Installation of an interior swing door is carried out in the following order.

  1. Development of the scheme of fastening the door frame in the opening. At this stage, it is necessary to clearly imagine (or better sketch) the method of fastening. In our case, this will be fixation with self-tapping screws and polyurethane foam. It is also necessary to decide on the side to which the door will open. If there is no previously thought out plan, the following hint will help to solve the problem: it is customary to open the door in small rooms, such as a toilet, a pantry and a bath. It is better to go outside into the corridors from large rooms.

The most common way of fixing the frame in the doorway is installation by means of anchoring on the foam.

  2. Door frame installation. It is advisable to place the door that arrived from the store on a flat horizontal surface - a table, chairs or on the floor and unpack it. The assembly is carried out using self-tapping screws for wood with a thickness of 3.5 mm. Before screwing in the self-tapping screw, it is necessary to drill a hole that will not allow the wood blank (fiberboard, MDF, chipboard) to split. A drill with a smaller diameter, in particular 3 mm, is used. For the same reasons, it is not necessary to screw the screws close to the edge of the parts - the standard distance is at least 5 diameters, that is, 1.5 cm.To securely fasten the horizontal slats of the door frame, four screws are enough - two on each side.

When assembling the frame on the floor, put cardboard from the packaging under the box

  3. Undercutting of racks. Usually the door frame is sold with a 5-7 cm margin. After fixing the side parts, you need to measure the exact size and cut off the excess. For this, the height of the opening is measured and transferred to the frame. It should be borne in mind that a technological gap of 2–2.5 cm must remain between the box and the wall. Such a backlash is needed so that the frame can be aligned horizontally and vertically inside the opening.

The adjustment of the length of the side posts is carried out after measuring the height of the opening

  4. Installation of the frame in the doorway. If up to this point the door leaf was inside the frame, then to install the frame into the wall, the sash must be removed. The frame is installed in the designated place and leveled with a level. Primary fixation is carried out with plastic or wooden wedges. It is very convenient to use a set of thin wedges, with their help, you can accurately align the box on all axes. It should be remembered that the racks of the box must be vertical in two perpendicular planes - from the side of the canvas and from the side of the wall. The correct operation of the door block is 80% dependent on the correct position of the door frame. In a number of models of interior doors there is a special decorative strip, which is disconnected and fastening holes are drilled under it. At the end of the installation, the bar is put in place. To secure the frame with screws, you need to drill 3-4 holes with a diameter of 4 mm on each rack and transfer them with a pencil or marker to the wall. After that, the box is removed and nests for dowels are drilled in the wall according to the markings. Remember that wood drills do not work in concrete. The brickwork is drilled with a perforator with a drill on the stone. The drill diameter is 6 mm, the size of the plastic sleeve. When the holes are ready and the dowels are inserted into the wall, the frame returns to its original position and is pre-fixed (it is "cured", as the craftsmen say). Before the final tightening of the screws, the position of the vertical and horizontal parts of the box is checked again. The tightening is carried out in a circle, first the screws are tightened half-way, then - with maximum effort. In order not to overtighten the fasteners, during tightening, the verticality of the racks is checked with a long two-meter level or rule.

The use of construction laser level improves the accuracy of the door frame installation

  5. Installation of the door leaf on the hinges. Since we are considering a light interior door made of MDF or fiberboard, one person can hang the sash on the hinges. It is enough to raise the door above the awnings and carefully put it on the axis of the hinges. After that, the door leaf must be closed and its correct position must be checked. If the door is mounted in compliance with all technological standards (gaps of 3-4 mm on each side), it will move inside the frame easily and without human effort. In the open state, the sash will not spontaneously slam, and in the closed state, it will not open. If there are no hinge recesses in the purchased door, you need to make them yourself. To do this, a milling cutter is inserted into the tool, the depth of immersion in the wood is adjusted and a groove is selected with a translational movement according to a previously marked size. The accepted location of the hinges is 20–25 cm from the upper and lower edges of the sash.

The hinges are placed above and below at the same distance from the edges of the door leaf.

  6. Joint filling with polyurethane foam. This is a crucial moment, since such important parameters of the door as sound insulation and heat resistance depend on the density of the filling. It is better to use polyurethane foam with a low expansion coefficient. To accelerate the setting and solidification of polyurethane, the walls and door frame are moistened with water (sprayed from a spray bottle). Filling is carried out sequentially, from bottom to top, so that no voids remain, but the foam flakes do not fall on the floor. During the operation, it is advisable to cover the door with a foil, since prolonged contact with polyurethane can cause stains on the laminated surface. As it dries, the foam increases in volume, so the joints are initially filled by 30–40%. After complete solidification (after 24 hours at an air temperature of 20 ° C), the excess is cut off with a sharp knife. It is not recommended to open the door leaf during foaming and drying. It is advisable to put pieces of packaging cardboard into the gaps (around the perimeter). This will prevent the frame from warping and deflecting in case there is too much foam.

It is better to fill the mounting gaps with foam from the bottom up, carefully processing the voids

  7. Doorway decoration. Upon completion of the installation of the door, it is necessary to put in order the opening. For this, slopes or platbands are installed in it. For interior doors, trimming with slopes is rarely done (although this is also practiced, depending on the place of installation and the function of the door). The most common type of decoration is platbands and extensions. If the size of the wall is small and the width of the door frame coincides with it, platbands are installed on both sides and the finishing of the opening ends there. If the width of the box is not enough to cover the wall completely, add-ons are used. With their help, the plane of the frame expands, and the platbands are no longer attached to the box, but to the extensions. Interestingly, designers sometimes deliberately choose the colors of complements that contrast with the color of the door. Such solutions are original in nature and emphasize the door as an element of the interior. Platbands are installed in several ways, depending on their design:
    • groove connection;
    • by gluing to the wall;
    • hidden nails.
  8. Installation of fittings. A doorknob and lock are usually included with the door. Or at least the mounting holes are prepared in the canvas. If they are not there, you need to mark the sash and, using a router and an electric drill, cut holes of the required size (for previously purchased accessories). This should be guided by the instructions for installing the lock and door handle, which are attached to the products. The approximate installation height of the door lock is 90–110 cm from the floor. The handle is mounted at the same height, stepping back 10-15 cm from the edge of the door leaf.

The method of installing a door lock depends on its design, but it is usually located at a height of 90-110 cm from the floor

The type of connection between vertical and horizontal platbands can be different - rectangular or diagonal. From a mounting point of view, a rectangular connection is considered to be simpler. For a diagonal seam, it is important to accurately cut the workpieces at an angle of 45 °. For this, craftsmen use an end circular saw. But with small volumes, you can also use a carpentry miter box.

The diagonal connection of the platbands requires a perfectly flat cut at an angle of 45 degrees, which is carried out using a miter box or circular saw

Many modern models of interior doors contain a rubber seal in their design. Its installation is most often carried out by the gluing method. The protective film is removed from the inside, and the seal is carefully glued along the perimeter of the entire door leaf.

Installation of double doors

Double leaf door blocks are a popular interior decoration. They fit especially harmoniously into wide doorways, emphasizing the spaciousness of the room. Doors with two leaves are:

When assembling double-leaf swing doors, the algorithm remains the same as for a single-leaf door. But there is one caveat associated with the door suspension. The first is a sash with a latch, which is cut ahead of time into the upper part of the canvas, on the hinges. After installing the sash on the hinges, fix it with a latch and proceed to the installation of the other half of the door. Thus, the alignment of the canvases in relation to the frame and among themselves is achieved. The gaps adopted for a single-leaf door are also relevant for a double-leaf version.

Espagnolette keeps the door leaf in a stationary position

The sliding design of double-leaf doors differs in that it does not have a frame in the usual sense. The door leaves are supported by a suspended profile equipped with a rocker mechanism. Naturally, the installation of such a door differs from the assembly of swing structures. Installation is carried out on straight walls with sufficient space (you need space for opening doors).

Around the sliding door, it is necessary to provide a margin of free space for those leaving when opening the racks

Installation begins with the assembly and fastening of the guide profiles (which can be either above or below the doorway). Further, the procedure must be carried out in the following sequence.

  1. Fastening brackets with fittings (carriages and movable rollers) to the canvases.

A diagram of fastening the door leaf to the rocker mechanism indicating the mass of the door leaf is attached to each product

  2. Installation of sashes on the suspension mechanism.
  3. Fastening of stoppers (rubber stops for opening the sash).

With the help of the limiter, the free movement of the door leaf is adjusted to protect it from impacts against nearby objects and surfaces

  4. Installation of accessories and platbands on the doorway.
  5. Installation of additional door fittings (brushes, seals, grips).

At the preparatory stage, the wall plane is marked and aligned. This is important because the door leaves are constantly moving along the walls.

The main document that you need to familiarize yourself with when installing sliding doors is the assembly instructions from the manufacturer. It reflects the technical requirements for installation and basic operating rules.

It is customary to install interior doors after finishing work in the room. In particular, it is not recommended to prime, plaster or paint the walls after installing the doors. High humidity adversely affects the wood-based material - deformation and bends of the structural elements of the door block are possible.

Installation of interior sliding doors

A sliding door is one of the options for sliding interior doors. In contrast to the two-leaf design, the interior compartment door can be single-leaf, three-leaf and even four-leaf. Moreover, one or two canvases can move at the same time. Installation is carried out in the same order as for a sliding door in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Installation of sliding door structures

A characteristic feature of sliding interior doors is the movement of the door leaf along the supporting profile located on the floor. Installation is carried out after finishing the floor. The guide profile is installed in parquet, laminate, ceramic tiles or other floor coverings. Often, the door leaf is hidden in a wall cavity specially prepared for this.

Before installing the sliding door, a false wall is built to hide the sash

There are options for manufacturing false walls or drywall boxes for sliding interior doors. But in any case, the suspension mechanism remains the same as for all other types of sliding doors.

Installation of sliding interior doors

Sliding interior doors save space in small spaces. But for their installation, certain conditions are needed, the main of which is the availability of space for moving the door leaf. Sliding doors can be single or double leaf. The supporting rocker mechanism is located, as a rule, on top, and a limiting profile is mounted from below, which does not allow the canvas to swing while moving.

When planning, various options for the location of the leaf in the doorway are used

Installation of glass doors

Glass doors are a very original solution for interior decoration. Like doors made of other materials, they are swing and sliding. In private housing construction, swing-type glass doors are commonly used. In general, the principle and order of their installation does not differ from the standard one, however, there are several features.

  1. The glass door leaf cannot be adjusted to size, it cannot be sawed or cut... Therefore, in order to avoid mistakes, the doors are ordered after finishing the walls and doorway (when the dimensions will not change).
  2. Door installation is not done alone. The weight of the glass sheet is usually from 50 to 70 kg, it is difficult and dangerous to manipulate such a sash for one person.
  3. The glass interior door is mounted on a wooden or metal frame.
  4. The durability of glass doors is limited only by the durability of the hinges. Pendulum loops are considered the most reliable.

To assemble the suspension of glass doors, mounting holes are cut in the door leaf at the factory.

The hinge holes are cut at the glass door manufacturer. You need to drill holes for the lock and handle yourself, using a glass drill of the required diameter.

Holes in glass are drilled with special drills at low speed

The advantage of glass interior doors is their almost unlimited service life. Their appearance is not subject to mechanical or chemical stress, the strength of the glass block is comparable to the strength of metal. The only thing that needs to be monitored is the safety of the hinges and fittings. Timely lubrication and removal of contamination are two prerequisites for the long-term operation of glass interior doors.

Installation of fittings on interior doors

Installation of fittings is perhaps the most crucial moment in the installation of interior doors. It is during this part of the work that errors occur, leading to quick breakdowns. Therefore, getting down to self-assembly, you need to tune in to painstaking "jewelry" work. Mistakes are too expensive.

So, accessories include:

All hardware elements require precise cutting into the plane of the door leaf or frame, and this presents a certain difficulty for novice carpenters. The permissible error must not be exceeded by more than 1 mm... Otherwise, there are no firm guarantees for the stable operation of the mechanisms.

Sampling is carried out manually (with chisels) or using a power tool. At this stage of the work, a manual electric router is used.

Working at high rpms, the router makes neat and clean cuts in wood

Sequence of work

Installation of fittings on a swing door is carried out in the following order.

  1. Markup. Before you start cutting the hole, you need to determine the location of the hinges. As noted above, in order to evenly distribute the weight of the door leaf, the hinges are arranged symmetrically 20–25 cm from the edges of the door leaf. The contours of the loop are drawn with a sharp pencil and traced around the perimeter with a knife, scalpel or semicircular chisel.

It is advisable to outline the contour of the loop with a sharp pencil, thin awl or scalpel

  2. Hinge seat device. A chisel makes a gradual selection of wood from the outlined contour. It is necessary to control the depth of the groove within 2-3 mm. The accuracy of the cut is checked with a hinge - when it is placed in the prescribed place, the front part of the fittings must coincide with the surface of the door end. When sampling for hinges in MDF doors, the manual method is ineffective, it is advisable to use a router with a small diameter cutter.

The hinges should be flush with the surface of the canvas

  3. Preparation of recesses in the frame. Having made the grooves and installing the hinges in them, they proceed to the manufacture of similar seats in the door frame.
  4. Installation of an interior door handle. The operation consists in cutting out the seat for the lock and holes for installing the rotary handle. It is difficult to do without a router here, especially for a person who does not have carpentry experience. Using a long cutter, a groove of a certain depth is selected for the lock. A small cutter is used to cut out a sweat for the lock plate and striker. To accurately locate the locking tongue, it is smeared with a coloring agent (nail polish, chalk, paint) and released onto the frame. In the designated place, the hole of the striker is installed.

Making grooves for a door lock is carried out using a router

  5. Installing the bolt. It is carried out depending on the design of the locking element. As a rule, the installation of a high-quality bolt involves sampling a masking groove. The device is applied to the edge of the door leaf, its shape is outlined and a groove is cut along it.

How to check the correct installation of an interior door

Everyone who has to install internal doors for the first time asks questions: is the door installed correctly and what needs to be done to make it work for a long time and properly. There is an exhaustive answer to them, which consists of two points.

  1. A sign of a correctly carried out installation is the same technological gaps along the perimeter of the entire web. This means that if the gap around the sash is the same size everywhere, the curtain is hung correctly.
  2. The door has to pass a little test. When opening (and closing) the canvas, no extraneous sounds, creaks, rustles (friction of one surface against another) should be heard. At the same time, the sash moves easily, without any effort. If the hand stops, the canvas also stops, it should not move on its own.

If these two conditions are met, the door is installed in accordance with technical and operational standards.

Often the installation of an interior door is preceded by dismantling. Disassembly is carried out in the reverse order of assembly.

  1. Decor elements are detached - platbands and extensions. In this case, use a pry bar or a large screwdriver. The decorative elements can be reused, so do not break them during dismantling.... If these parts are kept intact, they can be painted, covered with laminated film and used when installing a new door.

Platbands are removed using a pry bar or an ax

  2. The hardware is removed from the door leaf - locks and handles. The lock is unscrewed from the end of the door leaf. The swing handle mount is located on one side of the door (at the bottom of the lever).
  3. The door leaf is removed. To do this, the sash is opened at an angle of 90 o in relation to the frame and lifted by the lower edge using a crowbar, pry bar or other lever. Once the canvas is removed from the hinges, the awnings can be detached and reused.

To remove the canvas from the hinges, turn it at an angle of 90 degrees and raise it using a lever

  4. The door frame is removed. To disassemble the frame with the least effort, it is necessary to determine the places of its fixation to the wall. Sometimes it is difficult to do this in old doors, especially if slopes made of cement mortar are installed on the opening. Then an ordinary electric jigsaw will come to the rescue. If the frame is not planned to be used in the future, it can be cut in cross-section and separated from the wall in parts. This greatly speeds up the dismantling process. The top bar is released in the same way.

Using a power tool, the dismantling of doors is accelerated several times

If you are not confident in your abilities, of course, it is better to turn to professional installers, because the correct assembly and installation is not the only, but a necessary condition for the long-term operation of interior doors. But if you have at least a little experience in carpentry work, and the operations described in this article do not cause you to doubt the possibility of repeating them, feel free to start installing the door with your own hands. You can save money and be absolutely sure of the quality of each action.
