How to cover a solid wood door: varnishes, paints for applying a protective layer. How to varnish the door correctly Cover the varnished wooden doors with dark varnish

It is far from always the decision to update the interior or make redecorating the house must be accompanied by the replacement of wooden doors. They can be easily transformed and returned. fresh look replacing the old paintwork by choosing a new color, texture, application technology. Such an idea is quite easy to implement, you just need to choose the right paint and varnish.

Types of paints and varnishes

For painting wood modern manufacturers offer several types of paints, each of which has its own specific features and properties, which can become decisive when choosing.

Alkyd enamel and varnish

This type of paint is notable for its affordability and a huge palette of colors. After drying, the coating becomes very durable, and no special devices are required to apply the enamel, there is no need to strictly follow the instructions. One cannot but please the fact that the initial polymerization of the enamel will take place within an hour after its application, and after a few days its full strength will be acquired.

The main arguments against such a decision is that such a coating will need to be renewed almost every year, since it loses its original color relatively quickly, burns out, and cracks begin to form on it. An important disadvantage, which can become decisive if it is necessary to paint the doors in the room, is that the chemical components that make up the alkyd enamel actively evaporate during the drying process, rendering Negative influence on people's health. Inevitable persistent bad smell therefore it is recommended to apply this coating only outdoors.

Alkyd varnish is based on alkyd resins which are dissolved in an organic solvent. They are resistant to moisture, but do not tolerate high or low temperatures, therefore, for their application, it is necessary to observe temperature regime within + 5-30? С with humidity up to 85%.

It is solid durable coating for a door that can be washed using detergents... Manufacturers offer special types alkyd varnishes, which are distinguished by the ability to be exposed to the sun for a long time, to be exposed to acids, alkaline materials, cleaning agents.

Nitro paints and varnishes

Nitro paints are used only if it is possible to cover and dry the door outdoors in a place where people are not constantly. This is due to the fact that it is even more toxic than alkyd and requires compliance with safety measures during work. But at the same time, such a coating will become the strongest and most durable of all existing ones, it dries completely in just 20-30 minutes, therefore it is he who is often preferred for industrial dyeing of wood.

The nitro varnishes are based on the same substances as in paints, therefore, all the disadvantages associated with chemical composition material wasps, as well as the advantages of this option remain relevant. They are actively used to conduct internal works, but at the same time it is desirable to create conditions under which no one will have to breathe vapors.

Acrylic enamel and varnish

If you are planning indoor paintwork, acrylic enamel is the best possible options... This material is devoid of all the disadvantages of alkyd and nitro paints:

  • drying of the coating occurs due to the evaporation of water,
  • enamel contains no toxic chemical substances which could cause allergies or unpleasant odors during the drying process,
  • the coating is bright, resistant to sunlight,
  • a very wide selection of enamel shades is offered,
  • acrylic coating is always elastic, therefore it is not prone to cracking and chipping.

The only "drawback" of such paint can be considered only its relatively high cost and the need to additionally open the surface with acrylic varnish to increase the strength of the coating.

Acrylic paints on water based

Acrylic varnish has a number of features in comparison with other types of materials. The most important advantages of this material remains its fire safety, environmental friendliness, as well as the absence in the composition organic solvents... Difficulty in application may lie in the low drying rate of each of the layers, which is (depending on the conditions the environment) for about 10-14 days at humidity above 50%.

Manufacturers provide the opportunity to choose alkyd varnish in two of its variants:

Acrylic varnishes

Features of the choice and use of paintwork materials for a wooden door

First of all, it is worth paying attention to whether this paint is intended for external or internal work (accordingly, paintwork materials are chosen for the entrance or interior door). Indoor humidity is of no less importance: manufacturers have allocated moisture resistant materials... You should also take into account that the resulting coating should be transparent or opaque, which means that you need to decide on the varnish or paint for the door.

  1. When choosing a material, you should pay attention that any glossy coating will accentuate all the irregularities on the door surface (this applies not only to varnishes, but also to glossy paints). If you need to make minor flaws, you should choose a matte material.
  2. If the choice is made in favor of acrylic paint, it is recommended to pay attention to the fact that the adhesion of the coating to its base becomes stronger over time. In connection with these varnishing of such a door should be postponed for several days (or preferably weeks), having previously protected the surface with a film or glass.
  3. Before using nitro varnish on a painted surface, it is worth testing it in an inconspicuous place: a situation is possible when, instead of a glossy layer, the new paint will dissolve and "reach" for the brush with stains.

Any person can handle such work. It is enough to know the properties of paintwork materials from which the doors are made. Attention is paid to adherence to the technology of painting structures:

  • Paneled canvases. Before painting, they are disassembled into elements, since the number of joints leads to wear and requires updating.
  • Solid wood: heavy structures that convey the natural structure of the tree. For renovation, varnish is taken, paint for such doors under a tree.

With varnish application
  • MDF. It is easy to paint the structure, but before that, the surface is carefully prepared.

Choosing a shade of interior door designs

The assortment of paints makes it possible to embody different design solutions, therefore, how to cover the surface, the question does not arise. Three color trends can be seen in the design: delicate, light shades; bright shades of yellow, red; dark shades. When choosing a color, adhere to the principles:

Shades of paints
  • The shades of chocolate and cherry give luxury and sophistication.
  • In the bedroom, the nursery is picked up bright hues that create coziness, comfort.
  • Sashes made of solid wood are suitable for a log house.
  • In a room with antique furniture, artificially aged ones look great.
  • The color of the door frame is made darker (lighter) than the walls.

The choice of material for painting

There is no such thing as cheap quality paint. Sometimes stores offer discounts on quality paints when their expiration date approaches. If painting is carried out immediately after purchasing the paint and varnish material, then this option will save money without reducing quality.

Thinking about what wooden doors from solid wood are covered with, you will need knowledge about paints and varnishes. The assortment of paints is divided into: transparent, opaque. The first include impregnations, varnishes, glazes. When processing the canvas with a transparent coating, the natural color, the wood pattern is emphasized. For canvases from solid wood, varnish is often used. It protects the surface from moisture and various influences. Varnishes are transparent and tinted.

Important. When purchasing a varnish, attention is paid to the drying speed. Better to take a quick-drying paintwork. It does not spread on the surface and is also harmless.

Opaque coatings include alkyd, oil-based coloring materials that have specific features. More often used:

Doorway paint
  1. Nitro paint. She has aesthetic properties wide color palette, which is superior to other types of paints. It has strength, durability. But it is harmful to health, its fumes are toxic.
  2. Acrylic. Suitable for use in rooms. When painting, it is well applied, there is no toxic smell. The disadvantages of paint include low strength, high cost. To increase the resistance, acrylic varnish is applied to the paint.
  3. Alkyd enamel. It is affordable, has a wide range of shades, and forms a durable coating. This paint is suitable for wooden doors, it is durable, economical, and dries quickly. Significant disadvantage: unpleasant odor lasts for 2 days. This type of paint is not used where allergy sufferers or children live.

Preparatory work before painting

To cover the door with paintwork, you need to carry out some preparatory work. The first step is to prepare the tool:

  • brush;
  • container for paint;
  • rags;
  • gloves;
  • Scotch;
  • sandpaper;
  • 4 stools;
  • putty knife.

Be sure to prepare paints and varnishes.

Painting tools

The next step is the preparation of the canvas. It is removed from the awnings, placed horizontally on stools. If the selected paint has a pungent, unpleasant smell, then the work is done on the street. Remove the accessories. Non-removable elements are wrapped in paper, tape. The lock is closed with masking tape. In order to properly cover the surface, it is prepared:

Removing the old coating
  1. Remove the old coating of paint, primer using a grinder, sandpaper, and a solution-remover.
  2. Perform preliminary sanding, which helps to remove scratches, paint.
  3. Remove dust, dirt.
  4. They putty imperfections, cracks in wood.
  5. After drying, putty the canvas with medium-grained, and then fine-grained sandpaper.

Attention. Darkened wood is clarified with a mixture of chlorine bleach and water (3 to 1).

Scheme, the procedure for covering the door with paintwork

The application of the coloring material on the doors is carried out according to a certain scheme. The shield surface is painted in 3 stages. Better to use a roller. It provides an even application without leaving streaks. Begin to paint from the top from the corner of the door across from left to right. Then, after drying, the second layer is applied along, and the third layer - across.

The paneled door is painted with a brush, starting from the recesses. Make sure that no excess paint remains. After that, the door is painted with a roller in accordance with the scheme for painting the shield surface. For a saturated color, it is painted in 3 layers.

Before varnishing the doors, take into account the number of layers. Quality depends on it, appearance... Apply 3 times more often. Each layer is applied after the previous one has dried. The number of layers can be found on the varnish jar itself - information is provided by the manufacturer.

The varnish is applied to wooden door with a large brush. If patterns are present, then use brushes. different sizes... To varnished surface was even, painting is carried out on flat surface in the horizontal position of the door.

To cover with varnish, the canvas is placed in a horizontal position.

The first (base) layer is made with diluted (water, solvent) varnish along the length of the wood structure. It is impossible to stop in the process, as they remain dark spots... The next layer is applied across, after drying and surface treatment with fine sandpaper. The varnishing of wooden doors is carried out until a smooth surface is formed.

Attention! If a drop of varnish got on the surface and managed to dry out, then it is better to leave it as it is. Otherwise, you can spoil the appearance.

Pine painting

The advantage of inexpensive pine is the pleasant smell of pine needles, which brings calmness to the house, promotes good sleep... Pine refers to wood that is susceptible to the action of the environment. Pine will become strong, durable, if it is painted with the chosen paintwork.

Not all designers in the interior design willingly use a pine door - it has a lot of knots. This deficiency is corrected with a stain, giving a noble shade.

Before painting a pine door, it is putty and polished. Resin drips are removed, door leaf from pine sand. To paint pine doors, work must be done:

  • Any pine door is pretreated with sandpaper - sanded.
  • The surface of the pine canvas is cleaned of dust.
  • Pine doors are primed, which promotes uniform paint application, protects the wood from decay. To improve antiseptic protection, a special impregnation is used.
  • Next, a layer of stain of the required shade is applied to the pine door with a roller. Opaque paints are suitable for complete coloring of the texture.
  • Cover the pine door with varnish.

When coating solid wood doors, do not save time and do not shorten work processes. This turns into an unattractive appearance, the appearance of defects on the surface of the canvas. Therefore, carrying out the main stages of painting from cleaning to polishing is an important aspect of it.

How to paint pine doors correctly:

Wood is ideal for making doors, but it needs protection. Coloring allows you to extend the service life and give your doors a beautiful appearance.

How to prepare wooden doors for painting

The application of paint and varnish components requires the preparation of a wooden surface. This is necessary to improve adhesion between the coating and the substrate, as well as even distribution of paint or varnish. You can carry out the preparation yourself, since there is no need for a specially equipped room and professional tools. At the same time, the technology of this process is common both for the old and already painted, and for the new structure. But in the first case, the removal of the existing coating is required, and further actions are optimal for any wooden canvas.

Correct preparation of the door is the key to perfect staining

For proper preparation the species of wood from which the product is made is not important. Use comfortable and quality tools... If wood hard rocks, then you need to make more effort to process it. Doors made of pine or other soft solid wood options require careful handling.

Removing old paint from a door

In preparation old door the update may need to be removed old paint the product is covered with. With the help of such an event, you can completely transform a canvas that has lost its beautiful appearance.

The paint can be removed different ways, but it is important to process all areas of the working surface

To remove peeling and old coatings, you can use thermal, chemical or mechanical methods... The features of the technologies are expressed in the following:

  • with thermal removal of the coating, a building hair dryer is used, with which the surface is heated, and the softened paint is removed with a spatula;
  • the chemical method involves applying a special chemical wash to the door, the waiting time is about 5-10 minutes for the agent to work, then the paint is scraped off with a spatula;
  • the mechanical method involves processing a wooden door with a rigid sandpaper, grinder, that is, the elimination of paint by friction.

After applying the remover, the paint can be easily removed with a spatula

Chemical and thermal methods allow the most efficient cleaning of the product from the old coating. To implement mechanical method time and physical costs are required, which is not always convenient.

Processing the door before painting

After removing the paint, an old door or a new product is sanded before coating. This process assumes the maximum smoothing of the wood structure for an even distribution. paint and varnish composition... If there are small dents, cracks on the canvas, then they must be covered up acrylic putty the color of the wood. After this product has dried, they begin sanding, which is carried out along the fibers.

The sanding process removes irregularities on the door and ensures the smoothness of the coating

If bath, entrance wooden doors are processed, then after sanding it is necessary to apply an antiseptic agent and a fire retardant to the wood. These substances can be purchased at home improvement stores, and they are applied to the canvas with a brush, distributing thin layer... To increase the service life, interior doors are often treated with an antiseptic.

The choice of paint for wooden doors

To create a dense and uniform coating, use a paint suitable for processing wood products. Such funds are presented in a wide variety and therefore, when choosing, you need to take into account certain features, for example, the operating conditions of the paint, the method of application. The composition is also selected depending on where the doors are located. For example, entrance canvases are significantly affected by ultraviolet radiation and moisture, and the paint should protect the material from deformation as much as possible.

Door paint can be of any color, but its high performance is important.

The choice of paint is carried out taking into account the following features of the placement of doors:

  • for entrance doors you need a product designed for outdoor use, resistant to low and high temperatures, humidity and ultraviolet rays. The paint should provide a dense coating to protect the surface from mechanical stress;
  • for interior doors optimal compositions that do not have a pungent odor and form a persistent, durable, high-quality coating;
  • doors to the bathroom and other rooms with high humidity be sure to paint with compounds that are resistant to temperature extremes, moisture, protecting the product from decay.

The paint for the door must be dense and provide a durable finish.

Manufacturers produce many options for funds, each of which has certain characteristics. For wood, such compositions are suitable as:

  • acrylic paint belongs to the group of water-dispersible paint and provides a dense coating. The product has a homogeneous structure and is easy to apply to a wooden surface. Acrylic paint is suitable for interior doors installed in rooms with low humidity levels;
  • alkyd compositions are based on a complex of thick resin, rosin, glycerin and vegetable oils. Enamels of this type require drying within 2-3 days, protect the wood from decay and form a durable coating that is resistant to abrasion. Suitable for outdoor use;
  • polyurethane products create a reliable coating that perfectly protects the wood from moisture and scratches. The composition is comfortably applied, as it is characterized by elasticity.

High-quality paint allows you to make the door beautiful and provide a durable finish

When choosing a wood treatment product, you need to carefully study the information provided by the manufacturer and indicated on the label. This will allow you to determine the purpose of a specific paint option and the compliance of the product characteristics with the required level. For example, an entrance door requires an outdoor material that is highly frost resistant, forms a dense coating and can withstand exposure to UV rays. The impregnation, varnish or paint must have the same base, otherwise the coating will quickly delaminate.

Wooden door treatment: paint application

Painting the door out natural wood requires certain tools. You can apply the composition with a brush or a special spray gun. In the first case, it is important to carefully and evenly distribute the product, and in the second, the application is simple, but it also requires precision movements. The use of a brush is optimal at home, since there is no need to prepare a place for staining. It is even possible not to remove the door from its hinges, but only to close those places that should not be painted with film and masking tape. But in this case, you need to pick up a small amount of material on the brush to avoid drips.

Painting the door with a brush can be done at home

Work with a spray gun is carried out in utility room or outdoors in dry and warm weather. It is important to avoid the ingress of dust on the surface to be painted, which is necessary to obtain an even coating. Processing the door with a spray gun involves the following steps:

  1. Application masking tape on places not exposed to staining. Long self-tapping screws are screwed into the upper and lower parts of the frame, and then the canvas is placed between two supports, that is, it must be in a suspended state.

    The door leaf for painting can be placed on special supports

  2. Preparation and stirring of the dye, mixing the components if necessary (follow the manufacturer's recommendations indicated on the package label). If the product is thick, then it must be diluted with suitable components, as indicated on the label. Placement of the composition in a special container of the spray gun, test staining of test boards.

    The paint composition is placed in the spray gun tank

  3. By the method of short sprays, paint is applied to the surface. All areas of the canvas, paneling and other complex structural elements are carefully processed. After the first layer has dried, apply a second one, if necessary.

    The paint is applied along the grain of the wood, which is important when using a spray gun, roller or brush

If the door is varnished, then the surface is treated with sandpaper with opaque compounds. This will improve the adhesion of the paint to the varnished structure. Only then can the paint be applied using the selected method: roller, brush or spray gun.

Door varnish technology

The method of applying varnish to a wooden door is slightly different from applying paint, but you can also use a brush or spray gun to work with it. In the second case, a more even thin layer will be obtained, emphasizing the natural structure of the wood.

The use of varnish allows you to make the door beautiful and emphasize the structure of the wood.

The varnish is presented in a wide variety and therefore it is important to know the characteristics of the main options. Their classification differs depending on the area of application, but the funds differ significantly in composition. So, the following options are distinguished:

  • water-based acrylic varnishes are used only for interior work, as they have low resistance to humidity, mechanical stress, temperature extremes;
  • alkyd varnishes contain resins and vegetable oils making them versatile, they are applicable for indoor and outdoor use;
  • oily formulations form a thick and durable coating with a gloss. The drying period of the layer is about 48 hours;
  • nitro varnishes are optimal for interior work, dry within 15-25 minutes, apply them in several layers;
  • epoxy varnishes require mixing the two components in the right proportions, can be used for outdoor or indoor use.

To obtain an even layer, the varnish is thoroughly mixed

In order to varnish a wooden door, you need to carry out the following steps:

  1. Study of the instructions for use of the used wood varnish. The composition must be slowly and thoroughly stirred, which will ensure uniformity of color and quality of the coating.

    Any varnish should be thoroughly mixed before use.

  2. The prepared composition is poured into the spray gun tank connected to the compressor. Test spraying is carried out on a test board. The door leaf is placed on supports, as in the case of using paint. After that, they begin to apply the product.

    The varnish is applied evenly and in several layers.

  3. The composition is applied along the structure of the wood, keeping equal but very short sprays between sprays. After the first layer has completely dried, you need to process the doors with a grinder with fine-grained sandpaper, remove dust and proceed to further action... The second and subsequent layers are made only after each previous one has dried.

    The lacquered door looks solid and stylish

Brush application is possible without removing the door from the hinges. In this case, the coating will be very different from the surface treated with a spray gun.

Staining the door

Stain is a colored component that not only gives the wood a shade, but also protects the product from decay. Such a product has a liquid consistency and can be applied using a spray gun or brush. Stains are presented in the following variants:

  • water compounds easily penetrate the wood structure and emphasize it, but the product dries for a long time and makes the surface rough;
  • solvent-based stain provides a smooth surface, has a pungent odor and dries fairly quickly after application;
  • oil and wax versions of stain are environmentally friendly and suitable for processing children's furniture, interior doors.

Stain may contain protective components

When choosing a stain, it is important to take into account its purpose, for example, the product may be optimal for outdoor use. If you process front door tool for interior work, then the canvas will not be sufficiently protected from moisture, and will also quickly lose color.

The stain application technique is similar to the varnish or paint technique. The main actions are expressed in the following:

  1. Placing the canvas on supports, preparing and stirring the product.
  2. Trial spraying the stain with a spray gun or brushing on the test board.
  3. Spray or paint evenly with a brush in one layer of the door leaf.

The stain is applied in a thin layer and evenly

The gap between sprays or brush strokes should be kept to a minimum. This will avoid highlighting borders and hue differences.

Painting wooden doors necessarily involves choosing a product that meets the operating conditions of the product. After that, the processing technology is carried out, and the result depends on the thoroughness of preparing the canvas for painting.

To general interior the house looked impeccable and all the guests analyzed your impeccable taste with admiration, you must definitely pay attention small details... Doors are one of the most important attributes of every apartment and house. Each door that leads to a bathroom, kitchen or corridor should look aesthetically pleasing and harmoniously fit into the design of the room. If it has a dull appearance, then you should immediately do it. The first thing that comes to mind when renovating doors is their varnishing. But few know how to varnish doors.

Lacquered doors have been home decoration for a long time.

The choice of a suitable varnish must be approached with all seriousness, since each surface has its own type of this liquid. Therefore, when choosing, the first thing to do is to build on the material of the door. For uniform application coatings must be remembered and that they are constantly exposed to different temperatures and you need to choose a durable and high-quality one.

Types of varnishes for wood

Over time, the tree acquires its rich shade, characteristic of seasoned wood, because experienced craftsmen it is strongly recommended to use colorless varnishes in work. There is a lot of trouble with colored ones, since often the color applied to the tree differs significantly from the one indicated on the package. Doors from coniferous covered with clear varnish will look more impressive and expensive than if they are covered with a layer of colored coating. It is not necessary to use a very expensive material if you do not have special skills in working with it, since this waste of money.

There are several types of coatings that are suitable for painting wood:

  • Alkyd - based on a solvent, they are water resistant and capable of imparting a certain yellowness to wood. The average drying time for such varnishes is approximately 24 hours.
  • Nitrol varnishes dry very quickly, but much more toxic than the previous type. They can only be applied with a brush or roller. If you want to use a spray gun, then it is better to choose another option.
  • Polyurethane is one of the most durable coatings for wooden bases... It also darkens the wood a little and needs a mandatory preliminary primer.
  • Acrylic - water-based, it has no odor, is completely safe, wear-resistant and durable. He is essentially the most the best option for painting wood, but its cost in comparison with previous types is much higher.

You can choose any type of coverage

Door painting technology

For staining, you will need to prepare the following materials in advance:

  • paint brush or roller,
  • painting spatula,
  • sandpaper,
  • varnishes,
  • solvent,
  • putty.

First, you need to give the doors a horizontal position, after removing them from the hinges. To prevent the varnish from dripping on the floor, place them on stools, and lay ordinary newspapers under them. Be sure to remove the accessories during painting. If the door was previously covered with paint, then the old coating must be removed by sanding with a sandpaper and a spatula. If cracks are present, they can be filled with a putty. After the putty is dry, be sure to sandpaper and smooth out any irregularities. Remember that the more carefully you remove old layer paint, the better the new paint will look.

The second step towards flawless doorways is the primer. This material must be chosen very carefully, since it directly depends on how smoothly the varnish will lie and how long it will last. Once the primer has dried, the door is ready for coating. It is best applied with a roller. By using a paintbrush, you run the risk of leaving noticeable streaks and stripes on the doors. There are two ways to apply varnish:

  • pre-treated with stain;
  • immediately after priming.

Stain significantly emphasizes the veins of the wood, therefore its use gives a richness to the natural pattern on the wood. Stir the varnish and solvent slowly so that no air bubbles appear. Pour it into a tub for easy application. Evenly coat the surface of the door with varnish, make sure that there are no drips. In order not to see the transitions between strokes, the coating must be applied quickly, as it tends to dry quickly.

When everything is completely dry, you may notice that the surface has become rough. Do not be alarmed by this: this is as it should be, you need to go through with sandpaper again, then clean the doors from dust and apply a layer of varnish again. You may need up to 3 coats to get a good result. Wait until it is completely dry, and then turn over to the other side.

At first glance, the procedure for painting doors may seem enough a simple matter but this opinion is wrong. Often mistakes are made in the technology of applying varnish and instead of brightening the appearance of the doors, you further aggravate their appearance. After poor-quality processing, in most cases, they are not at all suitable for use. Remember that all doors in a house or apartment must be of the same color, so stock up on a sufficient amount of the same varnish, preferably even from the same batch.

Video on how to apply varnish to wood:

Even children are aware of the fact that varnishes are toxic, so make sure that the room where the painting will be carried out is well ventilated. Painting doors requires perseverance and great patience; all movements in the process of work should be neat and unhurried. You will have to spend a lot of time on the whole procedure, but what to do: everyone knows that beauty requires sacrifice.

How to properly varnish the door, now you know. If you are confident in your abilities, you can safely start updating the interior of your home, but if you have any doubts, it is better to contact specialists who know their business and will paint the doors properly.

Today, wood has not lost its relevance in construction, interior decoration, furniture production. Therefore, a wooden door is an integral attribute of most premises, both residential and industrial. On the one hand, this is a material that is environmentally friendly, durable, and aesthetically pleasing. On the other side, wooden surfaces require special care. They are susceptible to atmospheric influences, absorb moisture from the environment, and can crack under the influence of sunlight. If it comes on a wooden door, then to make it decorative, increase wear resistance, its surface should be opened with a special varnish.

Varnish for a wooden door. How not to make the wrong choice

The assortment of varnishes for wood is quite rich today. In order not to be mistaken in their choice, you should know what properties each of them possesses. There are such types of varnishes for wood: acrylic, alkyd, nitro-cellulose, polyurethane.

  1. Today they are especially popular among consumers. acrylic paints and varnishes... They are environmentally friendly, do not have pungent odors, and can be diluted with water. But compared to other materials, they are less wear-resistant and durable. However, this disadvantage can be compensated if special hardeners are added to their composition. Prices from 300 to 1000 rubles per liter.
  2. Alkyd varnishes are considered to be more wear-resistant. Their main advantages are moisture resistance and decorative effect on painted surfaces. The disadvantages include a slight yellowness of the wood after coating, as well as a pungent smell of solvents with which it is diluted. In order to obtain a glossy shine, you can use a urethane-alkyd varnish. Price from 360 to 500 rubles per liter.
  3. If it is necessary that varnished wood dried quickly, used nitro-cellulose varnishes, or nitro varnishes, as they are called by the people. They are transparent, which form a shiny transparent coating on the wood, while maintaining its natural color and texture. There are also matte, after which the surface becomes slightly silky with a muted color. There are acid-curing nitrovarnishes with the addition of urea resins. They increase frost resistance, moisture resistance, protect against sharp changes temperatures. The advantages of nitro varnish include reliability, durability, as well as accelerated drying rates. Its main disadvantage is increased toxicity. Therefore, it is best to apply such substances with a spray gun. Price - 320? 600 rubles per liter.
  4. Polyurethane varnishes are particularly resistant. They are resistant not only to weathering, but also to hydrochloric and sulfuric acid, ammonia, mechanical damage - shock, abrasion, cutting. However, such material can sometimes darken the wood, therefore it requires a mandatory primer.

Preparing the door for varnishing

First step preparatory work- This is the removal of the old coating, if any. In cases when it comes to paint, it is better to use a hair dryer or sandpaper. It is better not to use a paint remover, since the wood can absorb them and change its color under their influence. If we are talking about the old varnish coating, then you can use a special wash for such materials. The surface cleaning process should be carried out as carefully as possible so as not to spoil the appearance of the door.

The next stage is surface grinding in order to eliminate all irregularities and roughness. This should be done with sandpaper with a fraction of 60 to 180 (depending on how serious the flaws need to be eliminated). If this procedure was not enough and the irregularities are still noticeable, you can use a wood putty of the appropriate color.

In the photo Drevoteks (1 liter) is a hard-to-wash preservative antiseptic for wood protection, the price of a liter is 72 rubles.

Then, using a brush or roller, special substances are applied to protect the wood from fungus and bark beetle (wood preservatives). Then the door is primed. Carrying out all these procedures, it is necessary to ensure that the impregnation, varnish and primer are on the same basis (it is better if they are from the same manufacturer). After priming, sandpaper again and apply a layer of primer again.

To apply varnish to the door, you need to prepare a narrow roller and a narrow brush, a special bath and sandpaper No. 400.
