Autumn Japanese anemone (Hubei). Japanese anemones

Japanese anemone - beautiful perennial from the Buttercup family, which first came to Europe in the middle of the 19th century. Delicate flowers of this perennial on strong high peduncles enliven the autumn flower bed with their bright colors... This plant quickly forms natural thickets and creates the effect of a wild corner in the garden.

People interested in growing anemones need to know some of the features of this plant:

  • The flower requires mandatory watering in dry weather. Drying out of the earthen coma negatively affects growth and flowering, and waterlogging can lead to root rot. Therefore, it is important to find a middle ground.
  • IN very coldy perennial can freeze, so it needs to be covered for the winter.
  • Anemone can grow in one place for many years and it is painful to transfer a transplant. Therefore, replanting the bush to a new place is possible only after 5 years.

These are the main features. But each variety has its own requirements for planting and care, so you need to read about this separately.

It is better to purchase material for planting in early spring in large specialty stores or garden centers. The tubers must be well dried, packed and labeled by the manufacturer. By appearance it is difficult to determine their quality, since they are all shriveled and deformed.

Growing these flowers from seeds is quite problematic, since only every fourth seed germinates. The seed must be freshly harvested, as over time, the already low germination rate decreases even more.

Japanese autumn anemone is a capricious flower, so you need to choose the right place for planting. The plant does not tolerate a lack of moisture, and heavy soil, strong drafts and the scorching rays of the sun are destructive for it.

Proper planting is the key to health and lush flowering

The best choice is a spacious, open, slightly shaded area, where the sun's rays fall only in the morning. The soil should be loose, light, well-drained and fertile. If it does not meet these parameters, it must be dug up, fertilized with peat, humus or ash and loosened. On sandy, clayey and dense soils, the flower grows poorly.

Seeds should be sown for seedlings about 4 weeks before the expected arrival of heat and melting snow. These times may vary in each region. In order for the seeds to swell, they are mixed with moistened sand and left for 3-4 days, constantly monitoring the humidity. Swollen seeds are poured into a small tray with peat and gently mixed. The tray is placed in a cool place and left to germinate. As soon as the first shoots appear, the box is taken out into the street directly into the snow and sprinkled with sawdust. In spring, hardened seedlings are planted in the ground.

Growing from tubers

The selected tubers are placed in a basin and filled with warm water. This procedure will help them awaken to life. The edges of the rootlets can be trimmed to help them set in faster, but this is not necessary. After 4 hours, the prepared material is planted to a depth of 5 cm in prepared pots with sand and peat. Sprouted tubers are transplanted into a flower bed in grooves with a diameter of 30 cm and a depth of 15 cm, while the soil must be well tamped and watered abundantly. The distance between the plants should be at least 0.5 m, since then the bushes grow strongly and there is not enough space for them.

Outdoor care for anemone

If the landing was done correctly, then in further care behind the anemone does not bring any particular difficulties.

Watering should be moderate, in no case should the soil dry out or waterlogged. In spring and autumn, the natural moisture is quite enough for the flower, therefore, in most cases, watering is necessary only in summer. As a rule, watering is carried out in the morning or in the evening, after sunset. To prevent the soil from drying out, it is advisable to cover it with mulch - chopped grass, leaves, peat or tree bark. Especially good is the mulch from the leaves of broadleaf trees, which imitates forest litter, and this is a prerequisite for the growth of anemone in nature. Mulching eliminates the constant loosening of the soil, as the soil is constantly slightly moist and does not become covered with a hard crust.

A layer of mulch more than 5 cm thick prevents weeds from germinating. Weeds that have broken through this barrier are best removed by hand so as not to damage the roots.

After the end of flowering, the stems must be shortened to the ground, without cutting off the basal leaves. To protect the plant from frost, you need to sprinkle the ground around it with a layer of mulch of at least 15 cm and cover with branches. It is better to dig up varieties with low frost resistance for the winter and store in a cool place in a box with soil.

Even if the plant is frozen, there is no need to worry. It is highly likely that young shoots will grow out of the renewal buds pretty soon.

Reproduction of anemones

This perennial spreads very quickly throughout the site, so it is easiest to propagate it by shoots. To do this, in the spring, you need to separate the emerging sprout along with a part of the rhizome and transfer to another place.

The plant can also be grown from seeds or tubers. The first method is quite laborious, and the second makes it possible this year to admire the flowering of the bush. Planting can be done both in spring and autumn, but in the first case, rooting is much better.

The main problems when growing a flower

Do not plant an anemone directly under trees. The flower needs sunlight, besides, it does not withstand the competition for nutrients, as powerful tree roots quickly absorb them. Even if the plant takes root in such a place, it is unlikely that it will be able to bloom.

If the bushes are not fed, they will bloom poorly. Therefore, it is worth adhering to the feeding schedule:

  • in spring - with organic fertilizers;
  • during the formation of buds - mineral complexes;
  • in early October - with ash or any fertilizer without nitrogen.

For the winter, the bushes can be covered with a thin layer of rotted manure. In this case, in the spring, you can do without fertilization. It is impossible to use fresh manure, it disturbs the acid balance of the soil, and this has a bad effect on plants. Thanks to timely feeding, the buds will be larger, the flowers will be bright, and the stems will be strong.

Pests and diseases

The perennial suffers most from the invasion of slugs and caterpillars. He is also susceptible to fungal and nematode diseases. Most often, plants in group plantings are sick. Single bushes get sick much less often. Plants heavily affected by leaf nematodes are best destroyed immediately, and as a preventive measure, completely replace the soil in this place.

To protect against garden pests, perennials need to be periodically sprayed with a solution of metaldehyde. If there are few slugs and caterpillars, it is easier to collect them by hand. As a prophylaxis for fungal diseases, a little sea \u200b\u200bsalt or sand.

Japanese anemone is a herb for outdoor use. It creates a beautiful green background from its foliage for other flowers throughout the summer, and in the fall pleases with abundant and bright blooms.

The fragile, touching beauty of blooming anemone, or anemones, is associated primarily with primroses. However, the vast genus includes several species, the flowering of which continues from mid-August until severe autumn frosts. Large delicate flowers late blooming anemones in combination with lush dahlias and chrysanthemums will add a special lightness to autumn compositions.

A bit of history

All late-flowering autumn anemones are combined into a group of "Japanese", whose homeland is the mountainous regions of China, from where they came to England in the middle of the nineteenth century. But the autumn flowering anemones are still called Japanese (Anemone japonica), since they were described according to the herbarium model in Japan even before they came to Europe. After a detailed study by botanists of the felt anemone (A. tomentosa), grape-leaved (A. vitifolia), Hubei (A. hupehensis) and the so-called "Japanese" it turned out that the Japanese anemone is just a subspecies of the Hubei (Anemone hupehensis var. Japonica). IN modern classification the Hubei anemone and its subspecies are united by the general term Anemone scabiosa, however, gardeners have retained the former collective name of the group - Japanese anemone.

As soon as these types of wild anemones appeared in Europe, they won the hearts of gardeners. An active breeding work - both internally and interspecific. All natural forms took part in hybridization, but most of the hybrids were obtained as a result of working with the vine-leaved anemone and the Japanese subspecies of the Hubei anemone. The hybrid varieties Anemone hybrida obtained as a result of interspecific selection turned out to be so good that they quickly replaced all other species and varieties of autumn anemones.

General characteristics of the group

All autumn anemones have a strong peduncle from 0.4 to 1.5 m high and a powerful strong vertical rhizome. There are many renewal buds on the roots extending from the rhizome, therefore the plant grows very quickly and over time, after two to three years, forms whole thickets.

Basal leaves are large, collected in a rosette up to 0.4 m high. bright color and beautiful shape - multi-lobed, unevenly serrated along the edges, due to which the plant is decorative throughout the growing season.

The flowers are 5–8 cm in diameter, simple cupped or semi-double, delicate in color - white, pink, lilac, less often - red.

Popular varieties

As already noted, now in the gardens you can find mainly hybrid varieties of autumn anemones. These are mainly compact plants, not exceeding 1 m in height, tall varieties are rare.

Hardy varieties:Koenigin Charlotte - pink terry, Prinz Heinrich - red terry and Wirbelwind - white terry.

Other common terry varieties: with white flowers - Louise Uhink, with pink flowers - Elegantissima and September Charm (tall, up to 1.2 m); with red ones - Profusion (tall, over 1 m); with lilac - Pamina, bi-colored - Kriemhilde (purple-pink).

Among the varieties with simple cupped flowers, the snow-white Honorine Jobert (very tall, more than 1.5 m), Andrea Atkinson and Alba, pink Praecox, Lady Gilmour and Bressingham Glow deserve special attention.

It should be noted separately felt anemone and its varieties. Of the autumn anemones, they are the most hardy. From the point of view of decorativeness, the varieties of felt anemones are inferior to hybrid varieties in terms of the abundance of flowering and, perhaps, that is why they are not so popular among gardeners. But if you are a beginner gardener, it may be better to start with them. The most famous varieties are Robustissima, Albadura, Septemberglanz. Flowers in all varieties are pink, differ in intensity of color.

From the point of view of decorativeness, the varieties of felt anemones are inferior to hybrid varieties in terms of the abundance of flowering.

Planting and leaving

Landing site. Plants should be illuminated by the sun all the first half of the day, the rest of the time in partial shade.

Landing. When planting in heavy soil, add sand, and sour - ash. If the soil is poor in organic matter, compost or well-rotted manure must be added during planting. Fresh manure can kill the plant. Anemones are planted both in spring and autumn, but rooting is more successful in spring. If you have a rhizome as a planting material, before planting it should be kept for a couple of hours in a solution of an antifungal drug, then planted in prepared soil, deepening the root collar by 2-3 cm. The distance between plants is about 0.5 m, since the bushes with the second year will begin to grow strongly.

The main enemies of Japanese anemones are deep shadow, stagnant water, heavy and acidic soils!

Watering. Anemone is hygrophilous, but does not tolerate strong soil acidification. If the plantings are mulched with a layer of 4–5 cm of organic matter in the form of foliage, bark or compost, then it will be much easier to maintain a normal moisture regime.

Top dressing. Top dressing should be carried out during the season mineral fertilizers with trace elements, especially during and after flowering, as well as add ash several times per season. Fertilizers of the Green Guy series are well suited.

Weeding. Weeds should be removed in a timely manner, always by hand, so as not to damage the delicate roots.

Preparing for the winter. Anemone is a frost-resistant plant, because its homeland is mountainous China. It does not tolerate cold dampness, therefore, for the winter, a shelter is still needed - a layer of organic mulch about 15 cm high and spruce branches. If, nevertheless, your anemone is frozen, do not touch the area where it grows - most likely, young growth will come from the buds of renewal on the roots.

Reproduction. Since the autumn anemone itself quickly spreads over the site, the most easy way - reproduction by shoots. Just in the spring, separate the emerging sprout with a piece of root and transfer it to a new place.

Japanese anemone in garden design

Japanese anemone is a wonderful garden decoration throughout the season. It is good both in monoculture, and as a background plant for summer flower beds, as well as in autumn flower beds in combination with large-leaved hydrangea, astilba, aconite, aster.

White-flowered varieties of anemones look unusually beautiful (for example, one of the tallest varieties Honorine Jobert, characterized by especially abundant and long flowering) in the far corners autumn gardenwhich become especially gloomy in late autumn.

A charming flower, as if descended into a flower garden from an ancient engraving - Japanese anemone, or autumn, attracts attention with its airy, delicate beauty. Unlike species that bloom in more early dates, it does not require special attention, and therefore it is happily grown for autumn flower garden decoration.

Japanese anemone - plant description

A charming bush, sometimes quite tall, with three-lobed leaves and flowers of various sizes, grouping on smooth stems, blooming from the second half of summer. Japanese anemone is a herbaceous perennial. Other names are lumbago (usually wild), anemone. It is believed that the cultivation of the plant is the merit of Japanese gardeners, where it appeared in the 7th century. Until now, botanists continue to argue about the birthplace of a delicate flower.

Japanese anemone

All garden anemones look great in flower beds, border decoration. More often grown for cutting - the flowers remain fresh for up to a month.

Although all parts of the plant contain toxic substances, it is actively used by traditional medicine for various diseases, ranging from a common cold and ending with oncology. True, for the most part medicinal properties inherent in wild species.

Plant characteristic

Anemone is a herbaceous perennial hallmark it is a horizontally creeping rhizome, fleshy, brown color... Species representatives usually grow up to 80 cm, varietal or hybrid ones can be slightly lower - about 70 cm, or much higher - up to 130-140 cm. The leaves are cut into three parts, serrated at the edges. Their standard color is green-gray, in "pedigree" - they have a silvery or bluish tint.

The anemone growing in its natural environment forms simple flowers, located in small groups on a branched stem, the color is usually light tones - white, pink. Garden views pamper with more saturated shades and semi-double.

Types and varieties

Japanese is a representative of the autumn anemone species. The group also includes Grape-leaved, Felted, Hybrid and Hubei anemone. All of them are sold by shops and nurseries under the general name "Japanese", since only a specialist will notice the difference outwardly. Regarding the Japanese and Hubei anemones, there is still no consensus about whether they belong to the same species, or to different ones. It is important for gardeners that growing and caring for them do not differ.

A brief description of the prominent representatives of the Japanese anemone:

  • anemone Prince Heinrich 60-80 cm high, on fertile soils up to 120 cm. Flowers, semi-double, saturated color pink, sometimes with a purple or crimson tint, corolla diameter up to 20 cm. Flowering begins in late August;
  • anemone Pamina, tall, up to 90 cm. The diameter of semi-double flowers is 7-8 cm, the color is red-burgundy. Early flowering, from mid-July, lasts about a month;

Anemone Japanese: planting and care in the open field

The main feature of the lumbago is unpretentiousness, however, when determining where to plant it, specific requirements are taken into account:

  • the view feels comfortable in partial shade and in open sunny areas. However, the location of flowers is influenced by the climate: in the south, they prefer planting in places that are shaded during the daytime; in temperate and northern latitudes, they need sun throughout the day;
  • only hybrid forms make high demands on soil fertility; varietal and species develop normally on soils with a moderate nutrient content. The pH is neutral, good drainage is required.

Planting dates are spring, when the snow melts. The soil is well loosened before planting, freed from the roots of predecessors, stones. If the soil is depleted, rotted manure or compost is introduced for digging. Deacidify if necessary dolomite flour or wood ash.

Planting is usually carried out with pieces of rhizomes, before that they are placed in water at room temperature for several hours. Then they take out, cut off the dried ends of the roots, plant them, deepening by 5 cm. In group placement, the distance between the planting holes is made equal to the maximum height of the plant, tk. the diameter of the rosette is usually the same as the vertical dimension.

Note! If anemones are already growing in the country, spring - the best time to divide the root. The procedure begins as soon as the first shoots germinate.

After planting, the rhizome is covered with earth, watered, mulched. A layer of mulch is usually made 5-6 cm so that weeds do not break through. Best material - leaves, tree bark, dry chopped grass, imitating forest floor.

After planting, the rhizome is covered with earth, watered, mulched

Basic care activities

It is easy to take care of the plant, the most important thing for him is adherence to the watering regime.

The irrigation schedule for anemone depends on the season: in the spring, water it weekly, if there is no rainfall; in summer, daily irrigation is required, if the intense heat coincided with the formation of buds, moisture may be required in the morning and evening; in the fall, until the end of flowering, they are watered less often, but the soil is not allowed to dry out.

For the first year after planting, there is no need to fertilize the chamber. From the second year, they are fed with mineral fertilizers for flowering plants at the beginning of budding. Fall asleep wood ash; before winter, the rhizomes are mulched with humus, which provides an organic charge for the next season.

Weeding is carried out regularly, as weeds appear.

Important! The soil is not loosened, because root system located close to the soil surface. Instead, a mulch layer is maintained.

The transplant is carried out no more often than once every 5-6 years.

Preparing for winter

The process is different for southern and moderate or northern regions... On South aerial part cut off, spread a layer of humus or matured compost of at least 10 cm.Plants growing in cool climates are not cut off - the remnants of leaves serve additional protection from the cold, the stems help to retain snow, spread the mulch 15 cm.

Major diseases and pests

The main diseases of anemone are fungal, while solitary plants almost never become infected. For prevention, group plantings are regularly treated with fungicides, observe the irrigation regime, and prevent waterlogging of the soil.

Pests - slugs, caterpillars eating foliage. To protect the lumbago from slugs without chemicals, mulch from eggshell, needles, dusting the surface of the earth with hot pepper. It is advisable to use insecticides against caterpillars or to pick them by hand.

Nematodes cause great harm to flowers. They use special means - nematicides, or planting plants that repel the pest - dwarf varieties marigolds, calendula, creeping nasturtiums.

Anemone does not cause problems for gardeners, but the question often arises - why anemone does not bloom. The answer is simple - either they grow in dense shade, which is not suitable for charming Japanese women, or they lack nutrition, then they need to be fertilized.

Growing Japanese anemones is a simple, enjoyable process. Yes, the beginning of flowering with ornamental greenery, they create a lovely backdrop for other garden mono- and perennials. And in combination with the Hubei and other species blooming at an earlier date, you can make an exquisite composition of delicate, airy flowers replacing each other.

The plant is perennial shrub from the buttercup family, especially effective during flowering. Many growers love to grow anemone in their flower beds. The name is Latin. Our flower is also called freckle, anemone, white flowers or forest one-month-old. Sometimes it is also mistakenly called a snowdrop, which is completely wrong. He just appears early, like the first smile of spring, pleasing the eye with delicate flowers. I can't even believe that this is gentle and beautiful plant poisonous. But it is so.

Description of anemone

The genus contains about 150 varieties of these flowers. They are distributed in the temperate zone of the northern hemisphere, found in wildlife in spruce and deciduous forests.

The roots are sometimes tuberous. Bushes sometimes grow up to 1 m in height. The leaves on the stems are finger-like, slightly dissected, and sometimes separate.

Flowers on bushes are solitary, in some varieties they gather in large-flowered umbrellas. There are few flowers in the umbellate inflorescence, all having perianths with 5-6 leaves different shapes... Inside the calyx there are many stamens and pistils. The colors of the flowers are very different.
Anemones bloom, as already mentioned, in the spring. But several species can bloom in the summer months and bloom until late fall. During flowering, a pleasant aroma spreads around.
Japanese anemone has seeds that ripen inside a nut with a short nasal tip.

Some varieties

  • Pamina is early flowering, sometimes reaches 90 cm in height. It begins to bloom in July. The flowers are burgundy or sometimes very dark red. This variety is very popular in flower beds and flower beds, for the reason that almost no maintenance is required.
  • Profuse refers to hybrid varieties... Her flowers are purple double, and the flowering period is from late summer to October. It is believed that this breed is autumn. Like many hybrids, this anemone is quite tall. Its bushes sometimes grow up to 1.2 m.
  • VilVind differs from others by decorative basal leaves, with a serrated edge. White or yellow flowers with many stamens form inflorescences of 10-15 each. It blooms, like the previous variety, in late summer.
  • Prince Henry is a bush with beautiful leaves... She looks like WilWind, but her flowers are bright red. This plant blooms in the same way as the previous variety from late summer.
  • Queen Charlotte attracts flower growers with three-lobed leaves and large-sized double light pink flowers.
  • September Sharm is translated as “September charm”. For this plant, large bright leaves are of the same shape as the previous variety, but differs in a delicate pinkish shade of flowers. It blooms naturally in late August - September.

Care for each variety is almost the same.

What kind of soil does he like?

Japanese anemone prefers well-drained soil and sunny areas, but it can feel good in partial shade. The soil at the place where the anemone grows should be light and well filled nutrients... But this flower does not like sandy soils.

But if the planting is done incorrectly, for example, an anemone flower is planted under tall trees or bushes that have powerful roots, the anemone is unlikely to bloom. Even the most thorough care will not help.

Plant care is not very difficult. The anemone is fertilized in the spring before planting, with manure or plant compost. This shrub belongs to the moisture-loving, therefore, it requires abundant watering, about 3 times a week.

Leaving in the fall is also required: after the end of flowering, all dried pedicels and stems must be cut off. For the winter, anemones need to be covered with an agricultural canvas. And some varieties are to be dug up and placed in a large box with earth. However, it should be remembered that such a transplant is not easily tolerated by all plants. Planting dug roots in the spring is carried out with simultaneous feeding of the soil.

Reproduction
The best way to propagate an anemone plant is to divide the bush. This division and planting of the divided parts is carried out from April to May or in autumn, when the anemone fades. You can propagate anemone using root shoots.

It should be remembered that the plant is poisonous, and therefore you need to work with it with gloves.

Grow anemone and seeds. Seeds are planted in late autumn in a warm room. For successful seed germination, you need a bright room and watering with warm water using a spray bottle. Seeds are sown purely conditionally. They just put them on the surface of the soil and sprinkle with sand sifted through a strainer. The sand layer should be very thin. Seeds germinate only in spring. For the first time, such seedlings bloom only in the second, and sometimes in the third year.

Neighborhood
Anemone is often used in lawn design. An anemone looks very beautiful in a composition with roses, geraniums or gladioli. Loves this plant and dahlias. Therefore, planting anemones with such neighbors will not harm her.

Correctly planned flower bed all summer season looks attractive. Especially good flowering plants in autumn time of the year. They delight the eye with their bright colors against the background of withering plants. These flowers include Japanese anemone (anemone).

How to grow an anemone from seeds and what care is needed for this delicate plant, we will consider in this article?

Description of anemones: photo

The anemone is one of the incredibly delicate horticultural crops - it is a plant from the Buttercup family. The genus Anemone has more than 100 species distributed around the world. Anemones grow beautifully in Japan, Europe, North America... The most popular Japanese anemones, with a description of which we suggest you familiarize yourself with.

Despite a large number of The anemone species share many characteristics. All flowers have a strong and slender stem, about 1 meter high. The stem is even higher, depending on the variety. It does not need support and has rich green leaves. The stem looks like a bunch because several flowers emerge from it. They have a certain color of petals with a yellow core.

In the middle of summer, it throws out strong stems with dense buds, and then flowers bloom from them:

  • white;
  • yellow;
  • pink;
  • blue;
  • red.

They have many shades. Each bud consists of 4-20 petals. Terry specimens are distinguished by a large number. After the color, the fruit appears in the form of a nut... The seeds are located directly on its surface and scatter on their own. Their germination rate is rather low. Anemone has dense roots, but tubers are also sometimes found. The buttercup family is considered poisonous plants, so their juice can cause burns if it comes into contact with the skin.

Types of anemone

All types of these flowers are divided into spring and summer (autumn). Each of them has its own flowering period. For decorative floriculture, the following types are most often used:

  • anemone japonica;
  • hybrid;
  • anemone;
  • anemone hupebensis Japanese.

Pamina belongs to early flowering varieties, as it blooms in the month of July and August. She has large, cup-shaped double flowers. They are usually dark pink, almost burgundy. This plant is compact and grows up to 90 cm in height. Such flowers are excellent option for landing in small gardens.

Prince heinrich - This is a flower with large semi-double flowers of bright pink color. His flowers consist of 10-15 narrow sepals.

Anemone Hubei - that's pretty tall plant... Its stem reaches 120-150 cm and blooms with delicate pink flowers.

Hybrid anemone grows from 80 to 120cm in height. It blooms from August to October, pleasing the eye with beautiful white flowers with a beautiful pink edging. Her decorative forms also presented in other shades:

  • deep pink;
  • purplish red;
  • pale pink.

Japanese anemone anemone will always look attractive if she is well cared for.

Landing plot

Planting and growing Japanese autumn anemones is acceptable in lighted areas. It will also grow well in partial shade. The plant prefers light and fertile, air and permeable soils. In springtime, she needs mulching in the form of compost or rotted manure.

The plant is considered quite capricious to care for.since it does not carry over:

  • stressful bad soils;
  • drafts;
  • lack of moisture;
  • scorching rays of the sun.

Based on these requirements, the anemone cannot be planted in an area where the sun is constantly shining. She also does not tolerate solid shade. The most successful place for planting Japanese anemones will be an area where the sun shines in the morning. She needs sunshine in the morning after a cool night, and in the daytime she needs a shade from growing trees or buildings. Before planting, it is imperative to dig up the soil, add bird droppings or wood ash and fertilize with peat. After that, be sure to loosen.

Landing

Anemone is distinguished by its versatile breeding methods. It can be planted using:

  • seeds;
  • tubers;
  • division of the bush.

The fastest is the method of planting rhizomes... This planting method should only be used in early spring. Usually planting material bought in the market or in a specialized store.

The planting tubers should be immersed in a container of warm water for about 4 hours. This will give the plant a good and invigorating shower. Such a shower will help the plant recover after winter rest. Some growers trim the edges of the roots before planting so that they better take root in the soil. The cropping method does not need to be used.

Another popular way is preliminary planting of tubers in a pot... The container is covered with a mixture of peat and sand. The roots must be buried to a depth of 5 cm. In fertilized soil, it will be easier for the roots to germinate. After germination of the roots, the tubers are transplanted in an area with a depth of 15 cm and a diameter of 30 cm.After planting, you need to compact the soil well and water the seedling abundantly with water.

Division method very similar to planting tubers. The root must be divided by the maximum large quantity parts. For this, a root that is at least 2 years old is suitable. It should grow well and get stronger. This method of transplanting anemones is carried out 1 time in 2 years.

Growing by seeds

If you plant an anemone with seeds, then flowering after sowing with seeds will have to wait much longer. With proper sowing, the anemone will bloom next year. Seeds are sown in a container a month before the snow melts. Depending on the climatic conditions sowing is done in January-March.

Before sowing, you need to dip the seeds into wet sand so that they swell. For this, river sand is used and seeds are dipped into it for a couple of days and they monitor the maintenance of moisture in the sand. After that, the seeds, together with sand, are mixed with peat. Seeding is done shallowly. This will make it easier for them to break through the dense soil layer. The container is placed on a balcony or veranda with a temperature of 5 ° C so that the flowers go through the first stage of hardening.

After seed germination, the second stage of hardening occurs. Now the tray with sprouts must be taken out into the snow. Sprinkle the container with sawdust and leave until the snow melts from the soil. In the spring, seedlings need to be planted in open ground... To do this, you must follow all the rules for watering and fertilizing the soil. When good care anemone can bloom in the same year.

If you sow early varieties Japanese anemones, then it will have time to get stronger, but will bloom only next year.

Japanese anemone care

In anemones, the roots are considered a weak point.... Although they are powerful, they are very sensitive to chemical environment and external stimuli. For this reason, special attention should be paid to the soil in which the flowers will grow. Anemone belongs to moisture-loving plantshowever, she does not like excessive moisture and its stagnation. This will negatively affect the roots of the plant, they can rot. Watering is recommended no more than 1 time per day.

All weeds should be removed in a timely manner.otherwise they will take mineral substances from the anemone. It is best to remove the weeds by hand to avoid damaging the sensitive roots of the anemone. For normal plant growth and development it is necessary to loosen the soil in the flower bed every week.

Before the onset of winter, it is recommended to cover the flowers with branches so that they normally survive the winter. When growing flowers in northern regions, a layer of branches does not save them from frost if they are grown from tubers. To save the tubers, they should be dug up before the onset of frost, placed in a jar of peat and stored until spring.

Most gardeners use mulch when growing Japanese anemones... helps to regulate the moisture level in the soil. It will also act as a protection against weed growth. Mulching will make it possible to water the plants less often and maintain moisture in the soil, prevent it from drying out in winter and save it from frost. To do this, use:

  • dry leaves;
  • compost;
  • bark of trees.

Autumn anemones in the garden
