A large selection of such finishing materials, made from natural and, allows you to choose exactly the option that is well suited for the price and appearance for a particular interior. The panels are easily installed on the surface of walls and ceilings and do not require lengthy preparation before installation. It is these advantages, as well as the aesthetic appearance of the panels, that made them quite popular for widespread use.

Decorative panels are in perfect harmony with other finishing materials, so they can be safely combined with wallpapers that are similar or contrasting with them in tone, as well as with painted walls.

Selection criteria for decorative wall panels

Panels for interior decoration must meet certain requirements, so when buying these features, you must definitely pay attention to:

  • For the manufacture of finishing material, an environmentally friendly raw material, which during operation will not be subject to the decomposition process and the release of substances hazardous to human health.
  • Panels should be made of non-combustible and non-flammable material. In addition, in the event of a fire, it should not create smoke in the premises. To determine how safe the finishing material is, when purchasing it, you should pay attention to the markings on the packaging. If there is no fire safety class marking, and the product is not accompanied by a certificate of conformity, then it is better to immediately refuse to purchase.
Fire hazard assessment criteriaClassification of fire hazard of materials in ascending order. When marking NG (non-combustible), there are no other fire hazard properties

  • The finishing material should be selected for its resistance to moisture. depending on the premises for which it is purchased.
  • The general requirement for all panels is strength and resilience. When choosing, you need to take into account the effect that will be on the material. For example, if the panels are purchased for a children's room or a room where pets will be, then a material that is easy to clean and durable to mechanical scratching load is chosen.
  • The panels must easily withstand temperature extremes, since some of them can be installed near a battery and a window.
  • Ease of cleaning and resistance to detergents is also an important factor when choosing a finishing material, especially if it will be installed in the kitchen, in the hallway or in one of the corridors.
  • Very important criterion the choice is the ease of installation of the panels.

Panel functionality

Applying decorative panels for wall decoration, you can not only transform the interior of the room, but also get rid of problems that cannot be solved simply by gluing wallpaper:

  • Behind such a finish, you can hide irregularities and other flaws in the wall.
  • The panels can be used for communication highways - cables or pipes.
  • When installing panels on a frame lathing, it becomes possible to lay heat and sound insulation material behind them. In addition, there are panels on sale that are already equipped with a layer of such insulation.
  • Panels made from artificial materials, often very faithfully imitate natural ones.

Varieties of panels in shape and material

This decorative finish can be subdivided into different types in the form in which it is produced, and in the materials of manufacture.

Release form

Today on sale you can find panels of the following forms of release:

  • It is produced in the form of rectangles and squares of different sizes, various colors and textured patterns. The tile combines well with each other and with other materials; it can be used to decorate the entire wall or its panel part.

Due to the clarity of the forms, this type of finish gives the room a neatness, leveling the surfaces. Such panels are mounted on a crate made of wooden blocks and installed on a wall. The size of tile panels can vary in length from 300 to 980 mm, width from 250 to 500 mm, which allows you to create mosaic surfaces from them, selecting different textured patterns.

  • Reiki... This type of panel has a rectangular shape and is actually the same clapboard made not only from wood, but also from other materials, natural and artificial. The length of the slatted panels varies from 2400 to 3700 mm, and the width - from 150 to 300 mm. Their minimum thickness is 8 mm, and the maximum reaches 12 ÷ 15 mm. For concealed installation of such slats on the crate, special fasteners are used - clamps. These panels can be mounted both horizontally and vertically, as well as the so-called "herringbone» .

One of the most common options is clapboard-shaped panels.

This type of panels is most often used to decorate rooms with a small area, since they will not visually reduce the space of the room. Rack panels are connected to each other using a thorn-groove lock or only grooves, inside which special narrow tabs are inserted.

  • Sheet panels are produced in thickness from 3 to 10 mm and have large sizes - from 1200 to 2450 mm. Surface sheet material imitates various natural textures, for example, stone, various types of wood, cork and other materials, so you can easily choose the right sheets for an interior decorated in any style. This type of panel is most often mounted only on flat surfaces with glue, but sometimes they are attached in the same way as other types of finishing materials to the crate.

The joints between the installed panels are masked with special moldings, which give the surface a neatness. These panels are made most often from sheet fiberboard or MDF, which is decorated with various natural materials.

Manufacturing material

The wall panels themselves can be made from various materials, and besides this, the surface of many of them is additionally covered with a special decorative layer. So, in hardware stores you can find finishes:

  • Made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). These panels can be monochromatic, or any pattern, textured or tinted, can be applied to them.

  • Acoustic foam rubber VS and fibers of synthetic origin, for which gypsum and polymers serve as a binder, are used to produce soundproof boards. This top view of panels is decorated with gypsum fiber material or plastic.

  • Gypsum vinyl boards, which consist of gypsum covered with vinyl plates on both sides, similar to drywall.

A relatively new finishing material - gypsum vinyl panels

  • Cork panels, which are not only an environmentally friendly finishing material, but also absorb sound well.

  • Panels based on fiberboard, MDF or chipboard.
  • 3D panels made from different materials or their combinations.

Characteristics of various wall panels

To know for which premises one or another is suitable type of material from which the panels are made, you need to consider their characteristics, as well as how they will look in the interior.

Wood panels

Wooden panels are produced in different options- it can be smooth square or rectangular elements with a relief pattern or assembled from several parts and having a complete appearance.

Most often, the panels are made from cedar, oak, larch, alder or maple wood. If for their production is used at all inexpensive material, then they try to disguise it as more valuable wood with the help of special compounds that will make the textured pattern clearer and darker than the fiber.

Wooden panels are ideal for decorating residential premises, as they are environmentally friendly "breathable" material. They can also be used to decorate rooms with high humidity, but in this case it is necessary to choose a material impregnated with water-repellent compounds, and covered with wax on top.

V Lately split panels are gaining popularity solid wood, arranged in different variations, as a result of which relief patterns are obtained with the visible structure of the fibers of the material and each knot in it. This panel-making technique helps to preserve natural beauty wood, since traces of processing are not visible on it. For the manufacture of such slabs, ash, birch and oak are used - all of them on a chip have beautiful drawing... Finished boards are coated with colorless varnish or wax.

Chipboard and MDF panels

Chipboard (chipboard) is composite material, made on the basis of wood sawdust and shavings. To bind these woodworking wastes, phenol-formaldehyde resin is used, which can make up from 5 to 17% of the total mass. The prepared mixture goes through a stage of flat hot pressing, after which it turns into plates. After that, the panels are most often covered with wood veneer and laminated.

MDF - can be deciphered as a finely dispersed fraction, that is, slabs are made from from shredded lumber. The panels are formed by dry pressing, and the raw material binder is urea resins, which are less toxic than formaldehyde. MDF are classified as E1, that is, they have the lowest degree of danger to human health, which opens them up to the widest possible use in residential premises. The rest of the characteristics are similar to the parameters of the chipboard.

Particleboard and MDF can be "disguised" as any kind of wood, and it is sometimes difficult to distinguish high-quality material from natural wood.

According to some characteristics, chipboard and MDF surpass even wood - the boards are strong and quite tough, but, if necessary, can be easily processed. Chipboards have a lower flammability classification than natural wood, they have sound and heat insulating properties.

The disadvantages of conventional chipboard boards and MDF can be attributed to low moisture resistance, since when wet they swell, and their thickness increases by 5 ÷ 30%, which leads to deformation. Therefore, this material cannot be used for finishing wet rooms. However, in addition to ordinary chipboard boards for rooms with normal humidity, moisture-resistant wall panels are also produced, but they have a higher price.

You also need to know that the phenol-formaldehyde resins that make up the panels are extremely harmful to human health, and they will be released from the plates throughout the entire period of their operation. Therefore, it is undesirable to use chipboard for finishing any living quarters. Such material can be suitable for tidying up the walls of halls, walkways and other well-ventilated rooms. In any case, before deciding on the purchase of chipboard panels, you should familiarize yourself with their performance characteristics indicated on the marking or in technical documentation per consignment.

It should be noted here that chipboards produced abroad have different standards, and they are especially different in the content of formaldehyde. For example, according to European standards, the maximum permissible percentage of this substance for the class E1- 8 mg, E2- 8 ÷ 15 mg, E3 - 35 ÷ 40 mg, that is, its concentration is reduced by an average of 20%.

It is worth mentioning the number of layers that chipboard can have. The material is produced in one-, three- and five-layer versions, as well as in the form of slabs with a special design called "tamburat". Most often, three-layer boards are used for panels, which consist of an inner layer of coarse shavings, a middle layer of small sawdust, and the top layer is one of the coatings used.

"Tamburat" consists of outer layers made of chipboard or MDF, between which cellular cardboard is placed - this is a lightweight material that has a structure like a sandwich panel.

Fiberboard panels

Fiberboard - wood fiber plate. As the name implies, it is made from wood fibers, which are crushed and then pressed together under high pressure. Previously, the same phenol-formaldehyde resins served as a binder for raw materials in the manufacture of plates. Today, well-known manufacturers of finishing materials are abandoning these substances and switching to a completely environmentally friendly cleaner production applying the resin of the eucalyptus tree. The price of such products is much higher, but they are not harmful to human health, since they do not emit toxic fumes into the air.

Improved decorative chipboard panels can be used to decorate any premises, including those with high humidity. The composition of the finishing waterproof version of the material, in addition to resins, includes water repellents, and the outer surface of the panels is covered with a polymer film, that is, laminated. Such processing makes the finishing boards resistant to mechanical, thermal and moisture influences, and significantly prolongs their service life.

This is not brickwork, but a very successful imitation of fiberboard panels.

The surfaces of the panels are decorated for a wide variety of materials - they can imitate natural stone, wood, brickwork or ceramic tiles... High-quality execution brings the appearance of the slabs closer to the simulated materials so that it is sometimes difficult to distinguish them from the original. At the same time, the slabs have more low price, how natural finish and their installation is much easier and faster, which allows you to create the desired design with less cost.

Fiberboard sheets can have a maximum length of 3600 mm, a width of 1800 mm, and their thickness ranges from 3 to 25 mm. Such dimensions of the sheet allow you to immediately cover a large area, which makes installation both faster and better. Panels can have different structural density and are divided according to this criterion into three types:

Installation of fiberboard panels

Before installing decorative panels on the walls, they are brought into the room where they will be installed and left for several days to adapt to the temperature and humidity conditions.

Joining plates or fiberboard sheets when mounted in one plane, it can be done in two ways:

  • The most famous and simple one is with a thorn-groove lock.
  • The second method is a groove-groove lock, into which the fastening tab is inserted.

As a rule, the panels are fixed on a lathing made of wooden battens or beams, pre-installed on the wall. The lathing elements are fixed vertically or horizontally, parallel to each other at a distance of 400 ÷ 500 mm, taking into account the dimensions of the selected finishing plates. The panels are fixed perpendicular to the elements of the lathing with the help of special metal elements - clamps, so their fastenings from the outside are absolutely invisible.

If the wall for installing the slabs is leveled and requires only decorative finishing then the material can be glued to it with liquid nails.

Gypsum Vinyl Panels

Gypsum decorative boards are identical in structure to drywall, but instead of a cardboard double-sided surface, vinyl plates are used for their manufacture, which gives the material a higher strength and aesthetic appearance that does not require additional decorative design... The material has affordable price and therefore it is quite in demand for finishing walls and partitions of residential and non-residential premises.

Panels made of these materials are durable and resistant to mechanical stress, as well as to detergents. The finish is easy to tidy up with the help of wet cleaning, as it is resistant to moisture and aggressive environments. Therefore, the material is used not only for mounting it on walls, but for decorating the slopes of window and door openings.

Slabs are produced in sizes 2500 × 1200 and 300 × 1200 mm, thickness 12 mm, and have more than 150 different colors that can be combined with each other and combined with other finishing materials.

Color palette - for every taste

Most often, gypsum vinyl boards are mounted using aluminum profiles with different color solutions, so they can be easily matched to any panel. If the plates are purchased from a specific manufacturing company, then the material and fittings can be selected from the available catalog.

Very important point in the installation of this material is that it is carried out without a lot of debris and dust. It is this quality that allows finishing in an already finished interior.

A few words about fire safety gypsum vinyl finishing material. Its flammability is classified as G2 (moderate), smoke formation- D1 (very low), flammability - B2 (moderate), smoke toxicity during combustion - T1 (low toxicity).

For the installation of gypsum vinyl are used different profiles... For example, for wall mounting, a PP profile with a size of 60 × 27 or 27 × 28 mm is used. To install partitions, PS and PN profiles are used, and the width of such a partition is on average 85 ÷ 95 mm. Between the plates in such a structure, you can lay sound-proof material or lay communications. A finished partition may well replace a full-fledged wall.

PVC panels

PVC panels are quite popular for tidying up the walls of residential and non-residential premises of an apartment or private house. They are produced in the form of a lining or in sheets, the width of which can be 100, 250, 375, 500 and 1220 mm, and the lengths are 1035, 2240, 2700, 3000 and 6000 mm. Thickness usually varies from 3 to 8 mm.

PVC panels - inexpensive, easy to install and easy to clean

By purchasing panels in sheets, you can significantly facilitate and speed up the installation process, since the plate big size immediately covers a large area of the wall.

PVC panels are manufactured without the use of substances hazardous to human health, therefore, during operation, they do not emit toxic fumes into the air. The material is moisture resistant, easy to clean and not afraid of household detergents... For wall decoration in rooms with high humidity, special moisture-resistant panels are produced that do not require special care - it is enough to periodically wipe them with a damp and dry cloth.

PVC panels are perfect option for rooms with increased level humidity

They are produced in different colors, they can imitate any natural material(stone, wood, etc.), and in addition, they can be drawn on brickwork, tile, mosaics, etc.

The panels installed on the wall will perfectly disguise tons of pipes in the toilet and bathroom, behind them you can skip various cable communications, as well as, if necessary, lay soundproofing or insulation material.

PVC panels are mounted not only on walls, but also on the ceiling, and are perfectly combined with lamps embedded in them.

Installation of this material on a wall or ceiling occurs in two ways:

  • Fastening them to a wooden crate, using clamps or self-tapping screws.

  • Bonding to a flat surface " liquid nails»Or with gypsum-cement based glue.

To tidy up external and inner corners finishes are made with special fittings. It should be noted that high-quality installation of this material on the walls can be carried out by anyone, even a novice builder, who will follow the technology, carefully mark and control the horizontal and vertical installation of each element.

Qualitatively mounted PVC panels, subject to the recommended rules of operation and maintenance, are guaranteed to last up to 50 years, at normal room temperature, without sudden changes in one direction or the other.

Cork panels

Cork panels are perfect for decorating any room in a residential building or apartment. Such material has many advantages over any others.

  • The first and most important thing is the absolute environmental friendliness of the material.
  • Appreciate for excellent heat and sound insulation qualities.
  • The material is distinguished by high moisture resistance.
  • The cork does not absorb external odors, even strong ones such as tobacco smoke and kitchen aromas.
  • The panels can withstand high temperatures, reaching 350 degrees, but when this threshold is reached, the material smolders, but does not support combustion. At the same time, the cork does not emit a large amount of smoke and toxic substances.
  • The resistance of the material to ultraviolet light, temperature extremes and to all types of microflora allows the material to be used for a long time, since it does not change its original appearance.
  • Ease of installation of finishing material - it is quite possible to do without additional insulation and installing the lathing if the wall has a flat surface. Wall decoration with cork is not accompanied by the formation of dust and a large amount of debris.

Panels from this unique material are produced in different sizes, and tiles are usually 300 × 600 or 300 × 300 mm.

In addition to wall panels, panels for floors are also made from the same material. They have special locking joints, thanks to which they form an almost seamless coating after installation.

Wall panels are available in thicknesses from 3 mm and are produced in various shades - from amber to dark brown. These colors can be easily adapted to any of the existing styles. If desired, you can find cork finishing material that has colored blotches - green, red or blue.

Installation of cork panels

Cork panels are installed in the following order:

  • Surface preparation. It will need to be well leveled - you can use it for this, and then treat the surface with a finishing putty. After drying, the coatings are passed over it sandpaper, which will create the desired level of roughness, contributing to better adhesion of the adhesive.
  • Marking is carried out on the prepared wall. It is best to outline the entire wall in rows, the width of which will depend on the size of the finishing panels, given that they will be butt-attached.
  • Next, a special glue is being prepared. It is applied to the wall with a spatula only in the place where the next panel will be fixed, since the glue for the cork dries very quickly.

  • The panel is pressed tightly to the place smeared with glue, and then rolled with a roller. The panel should be glued to the wall within a minute.
  • Then the second is glued end-to-end to the first, then the third and subsequent panels. Do not forget to roll the surface with a roller.
  • Even small gaps should not remain between the panels.

Acoustic panels

Acoustic panels are indispensable in the fight against excessive audibility in an apartment. This decoration for walls and ceilings is made from different materials, which have one property in common - they all have a porous structure. It is this quality that gives high efficiency in absorbing and dissipating sound vibrations.

The most effective of all noise insulators is acoustic foam rubber - it is an inexpensive and fairly durable material that is more affordable than others comparable to it in sound insulation qualities.

Acoustic foam rubber is produced in different forms and in size, has embossed or even surfaces. It can be combined with other materials and is completely hidden from view.

There are others in the assortment of home improvement stores. soundproof materials having a more rigid structure than foam rubber. They are easy to install, and to some extent they are able to eliminate the penetration of noise. But it is their rigidity that reduces soundproofing ability, since they reflect sound well, but do not absorb it.

These materials should be used in combination with foam rubber. So, for example, gypsum vinyl plates are used to mask foam rubber, but if they are used separately, there will be no soundproofing effect.

Sound-absorbing panels are made in non-embossed or embossed design. The latter are considered professional material, and are usually used in recording studios, in premises adjacent to production facilities or busy motorways.

The use of acoustic panels in apartments is not very common, but in recent years it has become more and more popular, since the walls of multi-storey buildings built of reinforced concrete panels have high sound conductivity. This factor adversely affects the psyche, preventing a person from completely relaxing and resting. Acoustic panels provide the ability to make a restroom completely soundproof, but for this they will have to be installed on all wall surfaces.

Combined acoustic panels can include the same foam rubber, but masked on top with perforated plastic or gypsum fiber panels that will not impair the sound absorption efficiency.

Installation of acoustic panels

Installation of foam panels is carried out as follows:

  • If the foam is purchased separately and does not have decorative coating, then it is mounted under exterior decoration wall surfaces.
  • Soft boards are fixed to the surface with glue. If the finish of the wall allows, then you can use double-sided wide adhesive tape for installation.
  • Bars or sheathing profiles are fixed on top of the foam rubber in the recesses of its relief pattern.
  • Then drywall sheets, PVC panels or other finishing material can be fixed on them. It will not in any way affect the effectiveness of foam rubber sound absorption.
  • In the same way, the acoustic material is mounted on the ceiling and on the floor, and then closed on the ceiling with light panels, and on the floor - with plywood or a wooden board.
  • Sound insulation boards, made in the form of sandwich panels, can be mounted directly on the battens.

3D panels

Recently, the so-called 3D panels are gaining more and more popularity, which perfectly fit into any interior and give a striking decorative effect. This will be especially pronounced with correctly directed illumination, emphasizing the volume and smoothness of the figure's forms.

3D panels are made from almost all of the materials already mentioned - it can be PVC, natural wood, chipboard, MDF, aluminum, extruded fiberboard, gypsum.

Since attention has already been paid to the characteristics of almost all of the listed materials, and the most popular for installation are 3D gypsum panels, their parameters and installation rules should be considered more closely.

3D gypsum panels are made from fine-grained gypsum powder with the addition of special plasticizers, which give the material resistance to high humidity and allow you to provide a balanced microclimate in the room. Others positive qualities gypsum panels include the following:

  • Environmental friendliness of the material.
  • Gypsum panels are completely non-combustible.
  • Material amenable to different types finishing decorative finishing is painting, plastering, veneering, etc.
  • Correctly mounted on the walls, the material is highly resistant to mechanical stress.
  • The walls acquire additional warmth - and
  • The panels line up the wall and hide all its flaws.
  • Easy to install and easy to clean.
Installation of 3D gypsum panels

3D gypsum panels are mounted on the wall using gypsum-based glue.

  • Before starting the cladding, it is imperative to prepare the wall. It is best to carry out this process with the help of gluing it to the wall or fixing it to the crate.
  • To increase the adhesion of materials, the wall must be covered with a primer in one or two layers.
  • Further, it is necessary to mark the wall, defining a perfectly flat horizontal line for the installation of the first row. It is recommended to install an aluminum J-profile for mounting the bottom row. It is set horizontally in level, and will not allow the slabs to slide below the scribe line.
  • The next step is to apply glue to the wall with a notched trowel - only on the installation area of the next panel.
  • The reverse side of the panel is also coated thin layer adhesive composition.

  • Further, the panel is strongly but carefully pressed against the wall. Glue on gypsum base grasps quickly enough, so it is better to hold the panel for a while, waiting for a good adhesion of the panel to the wall.
  • Often, for greater reliability during the installation of rather heavy gypsum panels, they are additionally fixed with special dowels. The heads of the mounts are sunk into plaster - then it will be easy to decorate them with putty.

  • A second panel is installed next to the first one. It is imperative to leave a small gap between them, which should be the same between all plates. Therefore, often to comply with it, a template is taken, for example, a wire 5 mm thick, the segments of which are installed between the plates, and after the solution has solidified, they are removed.
  • If part of the panel needs to be used in a row, then the whole plate is marked out and cut with a hacksaw.
  • The gaps between the slabs are filled with putty, and if necessary, the excess mixture is removed with a damp sponge.

  • After the seams have dried, they are smoothed out with fine-grained emery paper.
  • The finished wall lined with panels is coated with a primer, and then, if necessary, tinted.

This type of panel is made from wood fiber based boards. Boards are obtained from small wood fractions, to which artificial components are added.

The density is provided by lignin, which is a substance of natural origin, which is one of the constituents of wood. Such panels have a presentable appearance, excellent noise and heat insulation parameters, and uniform structure.

Their surface can be varnished, laminated or decorated with plywood. Such panels, in addition to decorating walls and ceiling surfaces, are also used as partitions for dividing space.

The cladding made of MDF products is undemanding in maintenance; to remove dirt, it is enough to wipe the panels with a damp cloth twice a week.

Fiberboard

Fiberboard products are produced in the form of plates, they are made by the hot method, which involves pressing shavings and other wood waste with the subsequent addition of binders. Such products differ in size and are used for decoration in rooms with good ventilation.

For operation in conditions of high humidity, wall panels with laminated surface with high strength. This finish is practical. Fiberboard products are soft, half or completely hard.

The usual thickness of the fibreboard is 3-24 mm, the dimensions of the fibreboard are 350 by 180 cm.

Installation is carried out in two ways: on the lathing (in this case, nails with an anti-corrosion coating serve as fasteners) and on special glue.

Chipboard

Decorative products for decorating walls made of chipboard are similar in parameters to fiberboard panels, they differ only in the manufacturing method. They are made from wood or plant fibers with the addition of binders.

Chipboard panels are more carefully processed, thereby increasing their resistance to mold and moisture destruction.

Particleboard products do not contain toxic formaldehydes. For additional decoration, veneer or plastic coverings are used. In most cases, pressed shavings panels are used to decorate utility rooms, such as storerooms and corridors.

Chipboard panels are installed in two ways:

  • thorn groove;
  • groove-groove.

For fastening decorative items, a slatted lathing is required; the frame can also be made of beams.

All details of the lathing are located in a parallel plane (both horizontally and vertically) at a distance of 50 cm from one another. Fastening of products is carried out by means of metal clamps.

On a note! If the surface on which the panels will be mounted is flat, there is no need for a crate, installation work is carried out using liquid nails.

Plywood

Plywood products are used for both wall decoration and ceilings. To create such a cladding, sheets are used having a maximum thickness of 5 mm. The degree of moisture resistance of plywood depends on the room in which the panels will be used.

Installation of plywood products is carried out on a base of rails, fixed around the perimeter of the room. The vertical strips are installed at a distance corresponding to the width of the decorative panel. Each sheet is fastened with nails at a distance of 25-26 cm.

Made of plastic

Panel products made of PVC differ in texture, color palette and sizes. The width of the sheets is from 100 to 1200 mm, the length range is 1035-6000 mm, and the thickness is in the range of 4-8 mm.

Plastic vinyl panels are one of the most practical solutions for cladding wall surfaces in rooms for various purposes.

Such PVC products make it possible to reproduce the texture of various materials: brick, stone, wood, fabrics.

Plastic panels have an affordable cost, they are moisture resistant, easy to install, undemanding to maintain (cleaning agents can be used to remove dirt). In addition, they have excellent noise and heat insulation parameters, which makes them suitable for use in bathroom design.

Plastic decorative panels are suitable not only for finishing wall and ceiling surfaces in the kitchen, living room or bedroom, but also for dividing rooms into functional zones.

The main disadvantages of these products are fragility, poor solar exposure and the presence of chemical components in the composition. For the installation of wall plates, wood lathing, nails and glue are used.

Cork and bamboo

Bamboo and cork wall cladding products are used in the design of living and working spaces. This material makes it possible to implement fashionable ideas and modern design ideas in interior design.

The main advantages of these products include:

  • moisture resistance;
  • good heat and sound insulation;
  • resistance to decay;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • resistance to sunlight;
  • the ability to operate at high temperatures;
  • ease of installation;
  • undemanding care.

The panels are installed after leveling and filling the surfaces, preparatory activities provide better adhesion of walls with decorative items used for their decoration.

The finishing panels are attached to the wall surface with special glue. They are fixed docking, and it is very important to avoid volume gaps when fixing them.

From glass

Glass panel products for wall decoration are a novelty on the market of facing materials. Such panels are unique, which is why they have gained immense popularity.

The advantages of glass panels include resistance to moisture, fire, decay and sun exposure. Glass products are durable, wear-resistant and practical and are successfully used to implement unusual copyright and design ideas.

Glass panels are actively used for decoration and cladding of aprons in the kitchen, corridors, bathrooms, in living rooms for the purpose of space zoning.

Gypsum vinyl

The performance parameters of gypsum vinyl panels are similar to those of drywall products. For their manufacture, vinyl-based plates are used, which increase the strength of the panels, resistance to wear, giving them aesthetic appeal.

Gypsum vinyl panels have an acceptable cost and are often used as partitions dividing space, as well as for decorating windows and doors.

Advice. To ensure the care of products based on gypsum vinyl, it is necessary to periodically clean them with a damp sponge using cleaning agents.

As for the dimensions of gypsum vinyl panels, they are available in two formats: 30x120, 120x250 cm.

Such products are installed due to metal profiles fixed along the perimeter of the wall surfaces. There is a possibility of increasing the heat and sound insulation properties of hyposovinyl panels; for this purpose, heaters are used.

With 3-D effect

Panel products for decorating wall surfaces with a 3D effect appeared relatively recently. Materials like these make it possible to create amazing designs. Panels with a 3d effect are made from the same materials as ordinary ones.

The most popular are gypsum varieties of volumetric panels. They are made from a gypsum mixture, to which thickeners and stabilizing agents are added, which increase the strength of the products and their resistance to deformation.

The advantages of volumetric panels include environmental friendliness, fire resistance, strength, durability, a variety of designs and excellent heat and sound insulation parameters.

Volumetric wall 3d panels for interior decoration are mounted on special glue, fastening is performed on a flawlessly leveled surface.

3D panels can be:

  • Metallic. For their manufacture, as a rule, aluminum-based alloys are used. The planned volumetric pattern is obtained by the perforation method. Subsequent application of the polymer film improves performance characteristics finishing material;
  • Glass. For the manufacture of such products, durable glass is used, the thickness of which is 0.5 cm;
  • Made of MDF. A special polymer film, glued to the front surface, ensures a long service life and moisture resistance of the formed coating;

After fixing all the elements, the formed joints should be filled with a special putty.

Advice! If among the finished products there is no suitable option, you can buy molds for 3D gypsum panels and make products yourself.

The nuances of choosing decorative panels in rooms with special climatic conditions

High humidity and significant temperature fluctuations place increased demands on the characteristics of the facing material. When purchasing a cladding material, you should check its compliance with regulatory requirements, as well as clarify the preferred installation option.

The main types of panels for the bathroom

Among the wall panels for the interior, the most popular products are made of polyvinyl chloride. In addition to PVC sheet products for wall decoration in rooms with a high level of humidity, you can purchase facing material made of:

  • High pressure MDF;
  • Fiberboard with subsequent coating with a moisture-resistant film;
  • Chipboard, which is additionally coated with PVC film.

Waterproof wall slabs most often have a mosaic design or. To simulate seams, a corresponding recessed pattern is provided. Products can be glossy or matte.

Moisture resistant wall panels are manufactured in the form of sheets, tiles or slats. The choice of the appropriate option depends on the pattern that is planned to be formed in the process of decorating the walls, as well as the area of the bathroom.

The main types of panels for the kitchen

When starting finishing work, each family seeks to reduce their implementation costs renovation works... Decorative panels for the kitchen are quality material, allowing you to perform wall cladding without preliminary preparation surface. It can be used by placing it in the most convenient place for the hostess. Facing works can be performed all year round, since adhesive solutions can be dispensed with when attached to the frame.

The pattern of the facing material can be different. Many people choose brick wall panels for the kitchen. However, if you wish, you can order a single color version or any other pattern. Competent selection of texture will allow you to transform a small area, visually expanding its boundaries.

When choosing a decorative panel for the kitchen wall, you should pay attention not only to the appearance of the product, but also to its operational characteristics. must protect the wall from dripping grease and excess water. Preference can be given to products, glass, fiberboard or chipboard, on which a special protective film is applied.

The most popular models and price of wall panels for interior decoration

Before buying wall panels for interior decoration, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the existing assortment and the cost of individual models. This will allow you to choose the best option not only in appearance, but also in cost. The price of wooden wall panels and made of other materials depends on its geometric parameters and the manufacturer.

Model Image Material

Indoor decorative cladding - important stage construction or renovation, and you can choose different materials for this, for example, MDF wall panels for interior decoration. But there are other options, which we will consider below.

We will not consider wallpaper here, although this solution suggests itself in the first place. We are more interested in decorative panels. Since ancient times in stone houses the walls were covered with cloth, which was the most simple solution, but enjoyed the greatest success wooden panels... Ordinary smooth ones could be seen in the housing of a person of moderate income, and carved ones already spoke of high status. Today, both options are quite affordable for everyone, in addition, there are also 3D panels made of natural wood. Panels made of MDF, fiberboard and even chipboard are also quite popular, although the latter belong to the economy class and do not have high decorative properties.

Room after interior decoration

Budget plastic wall coverings, which are usually made in the form of narrow, long strips, have enjoyed considerable success. As a rule, polyvinyl chloride or, otherwise, PVC is used as a material. Less well known are glass panels, which in decorative purposes are made in the form of stained-glass windows. This option is quite expensive, but durable with careful installation. It is also worth mentioning 3D coatings, which are made from various materials, including natural wood and MDF. Quite expensive and therefore not everyone has access to bamboo wall cladding. Even less often, in residential premises, walls are sheathed with aluminum panels, which often have a relief or perforated surface.

Today, a new material for finishing surfaces in the house is also becoming fashionable - gypsum vinyl, akin to drywall, but having a decorative vinyl layer. This option is not too expensive, and therefore is quite suitable in order to experiment with it. And finally, we will mention such a type of sheathing as soft panels. They are interesting in that they can be used for practical purposes, for example, in the bedroom, such a covering will serve as a ready-made headboard for the bed, and in the living room - for an ottoman that does not have a back. And the rarest material in use is stone veneer. We will talk about it separately, since such panels are not found everywhere on sale.

Many have some prejudice against such materials and it is often not in vain, since the quality of the boards pressed from shavings or shredded wood fibers is different, including mediocre ones. In particular, chipboards made from sawdust bonded with a binder are very vulnerable to moisture and therefore should not be used in or near the bathroom. In addition, the strength of such panels leaves much to be desired; during processing, their structure is easily destroyed.

Fiberboard for wall decoration

Therefore, walls are sheathed with such sheets, usually in cases where an economical solution is required. However, the fragility of the material is compensated for by the rich palette of the outer layer, as well as a large number of beautiful textures. But it is better to sheathe walk-through rooms with them. Fiberboard is much more reliable for the simple reason that shredded wood fiber is used for the manufacture of such panels, and not shavings with sawdust. In addition, there are certain brands that can withstand moisture exposure for a long time without swelling or warping. Decorative wall panels made of fiberboard are very often used for interior wall decoration in living rooms, since they fully correspond to wood, but are cheaper and often have a beautiful relief, including 3D. But for the bedroom, this option is not very good, you can use such stoves in the living room, study, library, dining room.

In principle, the moisture-resistant series are quite suitable for the kitchen, but they should not be installed in the bathroom, a high concentration of steam in the air is enough for the lining to swell and delaminate.

The most durable and reliable option-, but it is also the most expensive of the pressed materials, since such sheets have a very high density of the fibrous structure. What is noteworthy is that this type of wall coverings is best suited for processing, and therefore textured cladding plates with complex relief (in particular, 3D) or even carved ones are made on the basis of MDF. Installation is allowed in any residential premises for the simple reason that the binder is lignite, which is contained in wood fibers and is released when pressed under the influence of high temperatures. That is, you can cover the walls with such panels in the bedroom. The moisture-resistant series are perfect for the kitchen and even for the bathroom with a high-quality hood.

In terms of its popularity and prevalence, this material is not inferior to pressed plates, since it is located approximately in the same price category... Of course, there are both budget series and very expensive ones. The price depends mostly on the number of stiffeners connecting the front and back sides of the hollow sheet, as well as on the thickness of the material. Affects the cost and design of the decorative layer, the complexity of the texture. Well, and of course, the brand's fame, although some eminent manufacturers produce quite affordable series.

Balcony decoration with plastic panels

However, unlike pressed wood-based panels, plastic sheets are far from suitable for all premises; as a rule, they are not used in living rooms and are very rarely used in hallways. Basically, such cladding is mounted in the bathroom, less often in the kitchen and loggia. The main advantages of PVCin the environmental friendliness of the material, because food packaging is also made of polyvinyl chloride, and water pipes as well as heat resistance... If chipboard and fiberboard ignite already at 250 degrees, then plastic panels can withstand temperatures up to 370 degrees.

But even when ignited, they emit relatively little smoke and toxic substances, in contrast to pressed panels. Fastening PVC sheathing is very easy thanks to special locks, especially if you use guides. Doing it right will give you an excellent and inexpensive moisture resistant wall covering for your bathroom or toilet. The disadvantage of such a material is its high fragility, a rather slight impact so that a clearly visible deformation appears on the surface.

This type of wall covering is quite unusual for residential premises, since it is used more often in in public places, for decorating the halls of restaurants and cafes, lobbies of theaters and museums, lobbies of business centers. That is, in fact, glass panels are usually used in commercial buildings. But even in living quarters with the help of such a finish, you can create a very original design... Today the choice is quite rich: glass painted during casting or only on the back side, triplexes with images inserted inside, as well as decoracryl. The latter is a polymer varying degrees transparency, it is more durable, but less resistant to scratches.

Example of decorative glass panels

In addition, there are other versions of glass panels, for example, with patterns and complex images made by sandblasting the surface. There are also models engraved or with complex cast relief. The latter look especially impressive in the form of stained-glass windows, when the image is combined with an appropriately executed texture. And, finally, there is an interesting option with photo printing, when the glass with the applied pattern is baked with ultraviolet light, and then heat-treated so that the paint is sintered with the glass. To protect the decorative layer from damage, the panels are often varnished or laminated. Corrosion resistance allows these panels to be used in bathrooms and kitchens.

Now let's consider what are the ways of attaching the panel for wall decoration. First of all, of course, gluing, this is a fairly common option, but it requires careful leveling of the surface. Another quite affordable way is for profiles or crate. Bolt fasteners are also often used. Another type of installation is cutting a shallow recess in the wall according to the size of the panel, installing a special box to reinforce glass in it. The simplest solution is to hang the decorative plate on the wall, like a painting, that is, either in a frame, or as it is, with hinges fastened to the glass. Similar methods are suitable for wall decoration both in the living room and in the bedroom.

Sometimes it is necessary to make repairs in the house quickly, without spending too much time on finishing work. In this case, panels are needed. In particular, drywall can be replaced with a similar material that has external protective surfaces made not of cardboard, but of vinyl sheets. That is, the installation principle is the same, but you end up with a finished room immediately after the wall cladding is completed.

Gypsum Vinyl Wall Covering

It is noteworthy that such panels have a lot of different colors and their shades and the same number of patterned textures (including wood imitation), which will allow you to create any design in the room. Moreover, gypsum vinyl is suitable not only as a wall covering, but also for the construction of partitions, when you need to divide a room large area into several parts. A similar solution (using panels as a partition) is suitable for an attic or for separating a small office from a large living room in one of its corners. Also, using gypsum vinyl, you can easily equip a separate dressing room in the bedroom.

The thickness of the material is usually 12 millimeters, while the dimensions can be different, both 2.5x1.2 meters and 0.3x1.2. It should be noted that the fire hazard of the material is average, but the smoke generation is very low, while the smoke has a slight toxicity, which makes it possible to use such panels for decorating bedrooms. Due to the polymer decorative layer, gypsum vinyl has a fairly high resistance to high humidity, but it is still unsuitable for the bathroom.

More recently, such casing was at the height of fashion, novelty made it popular. However, even today it is quite unusual way decorate the room, which is accessible, however, to many. Of course, it all depends on what material the 3D panels are made of. If it is MDF, the cost will be relatively low, but bamboo sheets or natural wood coverings will be quite expensive. If we remember about glass and aluminum panels, then such options can be attributed, rather, to elite cladding materials.

Using 3D panels for decoration

By the way, there is one more, quite a budget option- gypsum boards, reinforced inside with a steel mesh, they are not very strong, but they can have a complex relief of the front surface. MDF can only be the basis for 3D cladding, and the decorative layer is often made of the same plaster and plastic, and on top is covered with enamel or a thin PVC film for greater durability. 3D coverings can be attached to special profiles, like drywall, and some models are also equipped with locks for connecting to the guides of a pre-installed frame.

Lathing made of timber... Another method is glue, which is suitable for almost all cladding materials, provided that the wall surfaces are perfectly flat. Such panels are rarely planted on bolts, mainly only aluminum ones, for the reason that uncovered caps somewhat spoil the appearance of the decorative wall cladding. You don't need to cover the entire wall with such panels, they are perfectly used as a separate design element, for example, as a panel. Due to the high cost, they are most often finished with living rooms; aluminum or glass tiles can be fixed in the bathroom.

Earlier, we have already announced the option when the walls in the bedroom or living room can be upholstered with soft panels. Now let's take a closer look at them. Of course, they are made of several different materials, and the base is most often perforated chipboard or fiberboard. Foam rubber or synthetic winterizer is laid on top, in which holes are also cut. Then all this is covered with dense fabric or leather, quilted, attracted to the base through the holes with large buttons - and the soft panel is ready.

Soft panels in the bedroom

It is best to fasten it, of course, to the crate, with screws with wide heads. Moreover, knowing the technology, such wall cladding can be made independently. Sometimes just one panel is enough to make the room much more comfortable. It is not recommended to fix it in the bathroom, even if there is leather upholstery. A completely different matter is stone veneer. It is a hard but elastic material made from the finest cuts natural stone, most often slate. This slice is glued to the fiberglass fabric, which gives it the ability to bend.

Although, of course, you will not be able to fold the stone veneer in half or bend it strongly, a fracture trace will immediately appear on its surface. But such panels can be cut even at home, for example, with metal scissors. They are attached to the walls only with glue, and to create a unique design in the room, you can also cover furniture with this veneer, in particular, countertops and cabinet doors. Among other things, this material is perfect for cladding a bathroom, since it is absolutely moisture resistant.
