How to glue plastic wrap. Little greenhouse tricks

You will need

  • - double sided tape;
  • - soldering iron or iron;
  • - two metal plates;
  • - cotton cloth;
  • - chromic anhydride or chromic peak;
  • - BF-2 glue (phenolic butyral);
  • - glue for polyethylene;
  • - facilities individual protection.

Instructions

Connect the seams of the plastic wrap with double-sided tape. This is the simplest and quick way attach parts of this material to each other. However, do not rely on the glued parts to withstand heavy loads.

Weld polyethylene - perhaps the most common way to join film parts. It requires caution, since during heat treatment you risk spoiling the material. Three proven methods can be recommended: - Place both sides of the polyethylene to be bonded between two metal plates so that the edges of both parts protrude slightly. Run a soldering iron over them - the metal will not allow curling. Also, if necessary, you can make a plastic patch by thermally treating the edges of the parts to be welded; - use an iron heated to the maximum hot temperature... In this case, the parts should be overlapped (at least 1-1.5 cm). Lay straight stripes under the seamy layer of the film and on top and iron them; - You can connect the polyethylene parts by dripping molten plastic onto their joint. In this way, you can repair not only the film, but also other plastic items.

Find a suitable adhesive for plastics. The vast majority of adhesives will not work for you. Some mixtures can be used, but only after preparing the plastic surface - it should become more active. For this you will have to "mini". So, after applying a solution of chromic anhydride (25%) to polyethylene, BF-2 glue can be used. You can get the specified chromium preparation in chemical stores or from familiar chemists. You can replace it with a chrome pick.

Try a special polyethylene adhesive such as DP 8005 (structural adhesive for plastics) or WEICON Easy-Mix PE-PP (structural adhesive for polyethylene and). The peculiarity of such compositions is that they do not need Preliminary processing material. The mixture changes the structure of the polyethylene surface, after which it adheres normally.

note

Working with chemicals when repairing polyethylene must be extremely careful - outdoors and with personal protective equipment (gloves, overalls, mask and goggles). Chromium preparations are poisonous, they leave indelible stains on clothes. If you do not have the conditions to work with chemicals, it is better not to take risks and do with more gentle methods.

To pack a gift in an original way, it is absolutely not necessary to buy a standard gift package... It is better to make a pretty gift container yourself. Such packaging will not only be unique, but also inform the hero of the occasion about how much he is appreciated.

You will need

  • -paper;
  • -pencil;
  • -stationery knife;
  • - stationery glue;
  • -rope.

Instructions

First, choose the color and pattern that will be on. This will depend on the reason for which the present is being presented. For example, a drawing of flowers is not suitable, you can choose an image and rings, for Defender of the Fatherland Day - and stars. Decorate the sheet from which you will make the bag with a pattern using or attach an applique. On the other hand, the product is drawn.

Draw the diagram as follows: mark the width of the bag, its length, bottom, fold lines. Cut the corners of the bottom on both sides to fold the craft later. A detailed diagram can be seen in the picture.

Take a special stationery knife and cut the future product around the edges. Place something firm underneath to avoid scratching the table. Where fold lines are indicated on the diagram, push the other side of the knife to make it easier to fold. Fold the craft carefully along all these lines.

Glue the cut out layout with any office glue. When the bag is dry, punch holes with a knife or hole punch. On each side, you need to punch two holes, adhering to symmetry. To make the holes stronger, glue with inside products pieces thick paper.

Take ropes that match the color of the main range. Tie a knot on the string, thread it through the hole so that the end of the string enters from front side inside and then make a second knot to secure the rope. Insert the handles into the remaining holes in the same way. The package is completely ready. Decorate it additionally at your own discretion - glue foil appliques, sprinkle with sparkles or attach other details for decoration. You can also color the package or write on it the name of the person to whom it is intended, or a wish to the hero of the occasion.

Oilcloth - synthetic material for wall decoration, as it looks beautiful, but it is quite cheap. It is worth knowing about the technology of gluing oilcloth, about all the intricacies of this process even before you decide to glue the material at home or in the country.

This problem is often faced by owners of summer cottages, greenhouses, home craftsmen, and even car owners. After failures, people start looking for information on a topic. Is it possible to glue polyethylene at all? In the article you will find the answer to this question.

Polyethylene and its properties

Polyethylene is a very common material with many excellent properties. It is used for insulation, for packaging, for moisture protection, is an excellent electrical insulator, absorbs the most dangerous species radiation - neutrons and therefore is used in protection against them, is completely chemically stable. This latter sometimes turns from dignity into disadvantage. How to glue polyethylene? Bonding is a chemical and a bit electrical process, oddly enough. The molecules of the substances to be glued are attracted to each other by the unevenness of their electric charges.

That is, there must be such an adhesive in nature (and on the market) that adheres well to polyethylene, and when hardened, firmly holds the glued parts. So, the problem is that it is very difficult to glue polyethylene. Its molecules are electrically very "balanced", hence the extraordinary chemical resistance of the material. And unwillingness to stick to anything. However, the industry has figured out how to glue polyethylene. True, not all of this is suitable for home, but some may come in handy. Here suitable ways, selected by the resulting strength rating:

  • Welding polyethylene
  • Weicon Easy-Mix PE-PP glue
  • Epoxy adhesive plus oxidizer

Welding polyethylene

The strongest seam is obtained when welding polyethylene. If done correctly. The fact is that polyethylene is molded hot, usually under very high pressure, which reaches hundreds of kilograms per square centimeter. And when it is reheated at atmospheric pressure until melting, it tends to shrink, a little, but this is enough to make it difficult to weld. Two types of welding can be distinguished: welding of film and welding of thick polyethylene (cans, pipes, etc.)

For welding the film, heated objects or a special apparatus for gluing polyethylene, more precisely, welding, are used. It works like this: both layers of film are pulled along a heated wedge, and then immediately welded with a pair of compressed rollers. At correct selection temperature and pressure of the rollers, an excellent result is obtained - complete tightness of the seam.

But with a little practice, you can learn to glue polyethylene, even with an electric soldering iron or an iron through paper, so as not to spoil its sole. The clean edges of the film are laid on top of each other and lead through the paper with the edge of the sole of the heated iron.

A soldering iron with a clean tip, when turned on through a voltage regulator, will weld the seam even better without the need for paper. You can also make a clamp on the sting with a small, conveniently shaped metal nozzle. Then the sting can be used for direct appointment, and the polyethylene will not be stained with solder or carbon deposits from the flux.

Bonding thick polyethylene is more difficult and requires a lot of skill. Most The best way heating: a gas portable burner (it is convenient to work with it), or a hairdryer with a nozzle for a narrow stream of + 250 ° С.

The procedure can be as follows:

  1. Clean and dry surfaces thoroughly before welding.
  2. Prepare a polyethylene joint filler. It is best to take a narrow piece of the same material.
  3. Heat the edges of the seam before melting, let them “settle” a little. But do not get carried away with this process.
  4. Start introducing the additive (see item 2), fusing it evenly on both sides of the seam to a thickness equal to the material.
  5. Allow the seam to cool completely.

The same method is applicable when deciding how to glue polyethylene foam. The surface of the foamed polyethylene is not very conducive to adhesion, and it is better to weld it carefully.

For another way to weld thick polyethylene, see the video:

Bonding with filled acrylate adhesive

The best adhesive is Weicon Easy-Mix PE-PP. It is specially designed for materials with poor adhesion. Most liquids "stick" very poorly to polyethylene, and are simply squeezed out of the contact area.

But this glue contains the addition of tiny glass beads, which prevents the glue from leaving the gluing site, forming a gap required thickness... Therefore, the gluing surface is sufficient and the glue, when solidified, bonds the surfaces firmly. It's hard to find better than gluing polyethylene.

The surfaces must be thoroughly degreased and dried before gluing. Glue can only be fed from the mixer in the original packaging. Best temperature to perform work +21 ... + 23 ° С. Liquid glue lasts no more than 2-3 minutes. After applying a layer, you must immediately dock the surfaces. Complete readiness of the seam (the greatest mechanical strength) for polyethylene will be achieved in a few hours (4-5 according to the experience of working with glue). Exposure of the glue line is carried out at a temperature of +15 to +70 degrees.

Epoxy bonding

This is the most available method, if we talk specifically about gluing, not welding. Before gluing the polyethylene, you need to prepare the surfaces.

Epoxy glue is not a glue for bonding polyethylene, but, nevertheless, phenol-formaldehyde resin has very decent adhesion to the surface of polyethylene. In this case, you need to proceed as follows:

  1. Coarse the surfaces with emery cloth, then degrease and dry.
  2. Treat both surfaces with a 15-25% solution of chromic anhydride or 20-30% potassium dichromate. (Caution, caustic substances and dangerous carcinogens!) You can take another strong oxidizing agent: a strong solution of potassium permanganate. It is not much inferior in efficiency, but much safer. After processing, dry the surfaces again.
  3. Prepare epoxy glue according to the instructions.
  4. Apply glue to both surfaces in a thin layer and join together.
  5. Keep at a temperature of +30 ... + 45 ° C for several hours, but it is better to keep it for a day until cooked.

Conclusion

In case of high strength requirements, of course, welding should be preferred. If the welding is still accompanied by keeping the seam warm at about seventy degrees V for several hours with slow cooling, then the seam will have slight brittleness. The sharp cooling of the joint makes it brittle, especially in cold conditions.

Acrylate glue with a filler does not require mechanical surface preparation, except for unconditional cleaning and degreasing, which must always be done before gluing. You can even try experimenting with other acrylate adhesives by adding an additive in the form of crushed chalk or cement. It is possible that it will be possible to obtain a quality and very inexpensive recipe.

Epoxy adhesive is the most difficult to use, and the strength is not the highest. But as a last resort, and this may be the way out.

How to glue the plastic wrap? This seemingly simple question constantly puzzles many summer residents and gardeners. After all, if you first decided to build yourself a greenhouse, you will have two options - to purchase a ready-made one (the pleasure is not cheap) or to glue the film of the required width.

To facilitate your searches, we present quick guide on how to glue polyethylene film.

First you need to purchase polyethylene in the required amount, at the same time take with a margin, since you need to overlap. Is there plastic wrap?

This means that you have very few tools left, namely: an iron, sheets of paper and preferably two assistants, plus a table or other flat surface.

The welding of the film is carried out according to the following scheme: take the film and overlap the edges to be glued (the width of the overlap should be equal to the width of the used iron with a margin of 5 centimeters).

The prepared paper (you can use a regular newspaper folded in half) is laid slightly wider than the overlap.

We take two small segments and use the "stick-on" method to select optimal temperature, at which the welding of the polyethylene film will be carried out

If this is not done, then when gluing large pieces of film, it may become unusable, melting due to too high an iron temperature or an exceeded holding time.

After selecting the temperature on the table, we make gluing, it is advisable to have two assistants who will not only move the glued film evenly, but also level the finished overlap.

Note to everyone who will glue the plastic wrap - the paper should not be removed immediately from the hot film, in order to avoid tearing.

Let it pause a little and then shoot.

In conclusion, we note that plastic wrap for greenhouses is very easy to stick together at home.

However, if you need to cover the greenhouse big size, then look in hardware stores for a special apparatus for gluing polyethylene and it will become much easier for you to work.

More

Film welding is one of the working steps that can sometimes be necessary. In many types of work, pieces of polyethylene film must be tightly connected together. Most often this is necessary for the construction of a greenhouse, greenhouse, installation of vapor barrier during construction.

For some activities, it is necessary to ensure the material is sealed in order to obtain a product. When gluing polyethylene using adhesive tape or adhesives, high-quality sealed joints will not be obtained, therefore, if necessary, to ensure a strong connection, welding is used.

There are many ways to weld polyethylene film. The operation itself is the bonding of layers of material by heating, creating a temperature convenient for melting. When the layers are compressed, weld.

Welding of polyethylene is as follows: When heated, the layers change their structure, join at the molecular level, and after cooling, a strong seam is formed.

To glue the plastic wrap, the layers must be well cleaned - for any contamination strength characteristics are much reduced.

Foreign impurities pass into the melted mass, which violate the molecular structure in the seams.

For a high-quality connection with high strength, it is necessary to observe following conditions:

  • when welding the film, its pieces must be homogeneous, belonging to the same batch;
  • surfaces must be clean;
  • temperature regime when working, choose the right one - with insufficient heating, the strength deteriorates, with excessive heating, the joint and the pre-seam area are deformed;
  • when heating, ensure sufficient compression.

To connect PVC film good quality, you can not re-weld the edges of the material. If it is necessary to perform such an operation, first cut off the damaged edges.

Both in the implementation of construction operations and for household needs, the following connection methods can be used:

  • welding with a soldering iron equipped with special nozzles - at the same time it acts as a homemade welding machine;
  • joining when heated, melting the film with an iron;
  • desired temperature layers is achieved with a burner;
  • industrial equipment is used to heat the seam.

You can try to warm up the film with a hair dryer, then tightly connect the surfaces intended for gluing with each other, or it is better to put it under a press.

Film welding with a soldering iron

How to glue plastic wrap with a soldering iron? This method can be safely attributed to the most common - the tool is easily accessible, it allows you to get a good result, and with a little refinement of the soldering iron, the effect can be improved.

It should be borne in mind that without modification it will not always be possible to make a tight connection - the joints may be uneven, the material spreads.

So you can glue the greenhouse film or make a canvas for other needs. Only with very small amounts of work can it be recommended for use PVC compound soldering iron. After a little refinement, it turns into a convenient and easy-to-use tool.

Iron as a welding heater

How to glue the film using an iron - the simplest household appliance that is in every home? Everything is very simple - the work consists in melting the polyethylene and creating joints using the heated soleplate of the iron.

Improvised welding machine from the iron allows you to connect large areas of film... In this case, the seams can be made with a certain width. All modern irons have a thermostat that allows you to adjust the heating temperature.

  • Before gluing the film, ensure comfortable spot for work - a smooth wooden surface is best.
  • The film is laid with an overlap, the top layer is covered with fluoroplastic or paper, the sole of the iron is pressed and led along the welding line.
  • The clamping speed, force are determined empirically, the temperature is selected.

Professional tools for welding

To connect the film at home, you can make a variety of tools with your own hands, but they are suitable only for performing small-scale work. If necessary, large-scale production - commercial activity, the creation of a greenhouse or greenhouses - the use of these devices has the greatest effect. No adhesive has the same ability.

The welding process is faster, professional devices allow you to set the desired pressure parameters, the speed of advancement along the weld, and temperature.

Most professional devices have tension and guide roller elements that pull the film at an optimal speed, which has a beneficial effect on the quality of the seam.

Polyethylene is unpretentious and inexpensive material, therefore it is actively used in everyday life and in some cases is irreplaceable. Sometimes situations arise in which it is necessary to glue the material, for example, when building a greenhouse. In this case, not all compositions are effective; you will need to use a special adhesive for polyethylene, which has excellent adhesion properties.

Technical characteristics of polyethylene

Polyethylene film is used as insulation, packaging material, electrical insulator. It can reliably protect against moisture and absorbs neutrons, which are a type of radioactive radiation. Foamed polyethylene, which is otherwise called isolon or polyfol, is used to insulate a home - they are pasted over the walls with it.

The question of how to glue polyethylene arises quite often. The usual composition is not suitable for these purposes, since the material is chemically inert. A special adhesive for polyethylene is required.

The bonding of polyethylene is an electrical and chemical process. The adhesive composition should adhere well to the surface of the film, and after hardening, reliably adhere the surfaces to each other.

There are two ways to firmly glue polyethylene:

  1. Welding high temperature(with an iron).
  2. The use of adhesives.

Types of glue and their manufacturers

The overwhelming majority of adhesives practically do not stick to polyethylene, simply squeezing out of the contact area. Still, there are materials that can cope with such a difficult task.

The most popular types of adhesives that can be used for polyethylene are:

  • BF-2, BF-4;
  • two-component acrylate;
  • epoxy.

Butyralphenol glue (abbreviated as BF) is produced in Russia, the manufacturer is CJSC "Petrokhim" in the city of St. Petersburg. The glue is a viscous, thick liquid of brown or reddish-brown color, does not rot and corrode.

Suitable for bonding metal, plastic, ceramics and wood, used in restoration work. The glue should not be used for dishes, as it contains toxic aldehydes and phenol. BF-2 is universal, chemically inert and moisture resistant.

In terms of chemical resistance, it practically does not differ from BF-2, but its scope of application is slightly different. BF-4 is usually used for bonding elastic materials that are subject to vibration and bending. For example, leather, wood, plexiglass, textolite, metals and alloys.

Two-component acrylate glue is characterized by increased strength, it is transparent and does not harden very quickly (in 4 minutes), which allows you to take your time when working. Excellent adhesion to metal and plexiglass.

Epoxy adhesive "Contact" transparent produced by LLC ROSEL, St. Petersburg based on polyepoxy resin and hardener. It is used to repair fiberglass, porcelain, wood, faience, glass, metal and various alloys. The composition perfectly fills cracks, voids and gaps, restores the shape and volume of objects. The seam is resistant to gasoline, oil and water.

Which is better

Among all the compounds that are able to glue a polyethylene film, the leading position is occupied by glue designed specifically for materials with poor adhesion. It is a filled acrylate adhesive. In its composition there are very small glass balls that do not allow the compound to slip out of the gluing site, they form a gap of optimal thickness.

For foamed polyethylene, ruler glue is perfect KLEYBERG 152-1 due to the unique composition and a wide range use.

Application

Before using the composition, thoroughly degrease and dry the surfaces. You can apply glue exclusively from the mixer that is included in the package. The maximum mechanical strength of the seam for polyethylene occurs after 4 or 5 hours. Optimum for work is the air temperature from +21 to + 23˚ С.

Advice
In a liquid state, the glue is no longer than three minutes, so dock the surfaces immediately after applying the composition.

It is not intended for gluing polyethylene surfaces, but the phenol-formaldehyde resin included in its composition has excellent adhesion to such material.

Application of epoxy adhesive:

  1. Rub the areas to be glued sandpaper, degrease and dry.
  2. Treat surfaces with chromic anhydride (15-20% solution) or potassium dichromate (20-30%). You need to work with them with extreme caution, since these substances are very caustic and dangerous carcinogens.
  3. Dry the surfaces after processing.
  4. Prepare epoxy adhesive according to package directions.
  5. Apply adhesive to both surfaces the thinnest layer and dock them immediately.
  6. Leave for several hours, or better for a whole day at a temperature of +30 to + 45˚C, so that the seam is completely frozen.

Advice
Chromic anhydride and potassium dichromate can be replaced with a strong solution of potassium permanganate, which is also a strong oxidizing agent. It is no less effective, but safer, although it can also leave a chemical burn.

  1. If very high requirements to the strength of the seam being formed, then optimal way gluing polyethylene - welding. The seam will be strong if it is not allowed to cool quickly.
  2. No mechanical preparation of the surface is required before using the filled acrylate adhesive. Except for degreasing and cleaning, which are carried out before gluing any surfaces.
  3. Exposure of the seam formed after gluing the film with acrylate glue should be carried out at a temperature from +15 to + 70˚C for 4-5 hours.
  4. WITH epoxy glue it is difficult to work, in addition, the strength of the connection is not very good.

Advice
You can derive your own recipe for polyethylene glue by adding a little crushed chalk or cement to the acrylate glue. The composition can turn out to be of high quality and at the same time inexpensive.

The best option for gluing polyethylene is welding, since the result is a durable, reliable seam... Apply adhesives it is not always expedient, this is due to the fact that polyethylene is a chemically inert material with poor adhesive properties.
