Quick-release couplings for pvc hoses. Fasteners for quick connection of water hoses

The hose connector is a quick-detachable connection required for easy operation of irrigation equipment when irrigating an area or when using it in portable car washes. A feature of modern connectors is that they can withstand high pressure in the pipe without additional waterproofing. Such elements are easy to install and easy to use.

Varieties of hose connectors

All quick-detachable connections have a common feature - the presence of an outlet for the nipple connecting it to an adapter for a tap, a sprinkler or a spray gun.

The hose connector can be made of plastic or metal alloy. The composition of the material depends on the working pressure in the pipe. Plastic joints in the middle price segment withstand about 10-15 bar. Metal and brass products are designed to work with pipe pressures above 15-20 bar.

Often, the word "connector" refers to the coupling by means of which two watering hoses of equal or different diameters are connected. In this case, it should be borne in mind that the coupling is really designed to connect two hoses, however, in order to disconnect them later, you will need to unscrew the cap and pull out the pipe.

The threaded connecting nozzle is designed for use with other elements of similar design. Depending on the details of the bond, an external or internal thread of a certain diameter may be required. Such connections are also connected to the nipple and have the ability to quickly be pulled out.

What does it consist of?

The classic hose connector consists of the following elements:

  • Tube holder with housing. The watering hose is inserted directly into it. After tightening the cover, it is tightly and sealed inside the connector.
  • Snap-off mechanism. It is he who provides the ability to remove the device in one movement.
  • Screw cap. With it, the hose is fixed in the connector. It has an internal thread that is screwed onto the tube holder. As a result, the structure is fixed, compression is provided.
  • Stop valve. Fits in auto-closure connectors. It is a plastic or metal piston with rubber bands providing airtightness. The essence of its work is that when the connector is connected to the nipple, the latter presses on the piston. In the connected state, the valve is always open, and after disconnection, the pressure in the pipe closes it. This allows you to stop the flow of water without turning off the tap.
  • Rubber bands for sealing. They are located inside the quick coupling and do not allow water to escape through the threads.

Standard sizes

All connectors are designed for hoses of standard diameters and are manufactured according to specific parameters. Universal adapters can connect pipes of different diameters, but these connections are extremely rare on the domestic market.

  • 3/4 "hose connector. Quick fit 3/4" or 19mm diameter.
  • The 1-inch device accepts a 25-26 mm hose.
  • 1/2 "hose connector. It is used for pipes with a diameter of 12-13 mm.
  • Rarer 1/4, 3/8 and 5/8 ”models are designed to fit the appropriate hose sizes.

Application area

The hose connector is used wherever there is a need to use the water supplied from the hose.

The most widespread use of quick couplings when watering household plots, lawns and flower beds, connecting to car wash equipment.

The following factors should be considered when choosing adapter material and size:

  1. Working pressure in the pipe.
  2. Flexible tube diameter and nipple size.
  3. Weather conditions at the time of use.
  4. Possibility of mechanical damage to irrigation fittings.

Other irrigation fittings

The garden hose connector is just one piece of the watering fittings. Other parts are required to make it work successfully.

  • Nipple. It is a cone that connects two connectors. At its ends there are elastic bands that ensure the tightness of the connection. This element can be of two types: STANDARD and POWER JET. Depending on this, a fast connection is selected. Two elements of such reinforcement cannot be fastened using parts of different sizes.
  • Tee. It is analogous to a nipple. The difference is that it has three connections to the connector.
  • Clutch. Connects two flexible tubes. If the element is reducing, then with its help it is possible to connect hoses of different diameters.
  • Tap adapter. This device is designed to connect the hose to the water supply. Depending on the thread of the valve, it can have an external or internal thread. The other end has a nipple connector.
  • Pistols and sprinklers. There are a huge number of sprinklers of various modifications. At the end they have a nipple connector that fits the connector.

All elements of the irrigation fittings are necessary to ensure ease of use. A variety of sizes and shapes allows you to choose elements that provide high-quality irrigation in each specific situation.

The decoding of the quick couplings is "quick disconnect couplings" or, as they are sometimes called, hydraulic breakaway couplings, designed for fast switching of suspended equipment on special purpose vehicles. Couplings are used on hydraulic breakers and road-building, agricultural, forestry equipment, shipbuilding, food industry, oil and gas production, as well as in any other hydraulic systems where a quick change of suspended equipment is required. You can find hose quick couplings on an agricultural harvester, compressor or snow plow, Bobcat excavator or tractor.

Structurally, the quick coupling consists of a coupling and a nipple, which are inserted into each other, providing a reliable and tight connection of the hydraulic system.

Types of quick couplings for hoses

Generally, hose quick couplings can be divided into three groups. Couplings for hoses type ISO A and ISO B, Flat Face and threaded couplings. The division of products into groups is done on purpose - this allows the buyer to better navigate the range of connections and choose for himself the couplings that meet his requirements as closely as possible.

You can choose between low pressure and ultra high pressure couplings, made from carbon steel, stainless steel or brass.

Couplings for ISO A, ISO B hoses are the simplest type of quick couplings, most often found in agricultural machinery and in municipal services, designed for light operating conditions, as well as where there are no high pressures. Has a ball bearing valve and valve system.

    ISO A - hydraulic application
  • PUSH-PULL (for agricultural machinery)
    ISO B - industrial applications
  • IRB (carbon steel)
  • IRBO (brass couplings)
  • IRBX (stainless steel)

BRS FLAT FACE - connections with flat connecting part. This design does not allow oil to flow out when disconnecting, and in the event of a fall of the FF couplings on the ground, dirt will not get into the inner part.

FIRG is a quick coupler with a locking platform (ISO 16028), used in hydraulic systems where it is necessary to exclude the possibility of external oil leaks and there is a risk of fluid contamination. FIRG couplings provide dry connection when disconnected.

  • FIRG AX / FL (stainless steel) for aggressive environments
  • FIRG Q (heat treated carbon steel) for moderately aggressive media (e.g. distilled water, water-glycol mixtures)
  • FIRG A (external connection - thread)
  • APM - drain nipple, has a triple valve system (double internal relief valve and a valve with a shut-off plate), designed for residual pressure in the hydraulic system
  • AHD - socket for APM nipple
  • A-HP - special design of quick couplings for high pressure hoses withstand pressure of 700 bar

Threaded couplings - this type of quick couplings is used at very high as well as impulse pressure. Most often used in quarry machinery.

  • IV-HP - ball-type threaded couplings, designed for systems with high pressure up to 700 bar, used for cylinders, hydraulic breakers and hydraulic jacks
  • VEP-P - used for high working pressure and need for connection with residual working pressure in the system
  • VP-P - this type is designed for residual pressure in the hydraulic system, has a safety ring that protects against arbitrary opening during strong vibrations
  • VEP-HD - these couplings are designed for residual pressure in the hydraulic system, have a complete connection indicator and a flanged connecting part
  • VLS - The VLS quick coupling has been specially designed for earth moving machinery. They are widely used in the operation of equipment with frequent impulse pressure, water hammer, in systems with an increased operating mode
  • VD - threaded and seated couplings made of carbon steel with high temperature treatment, designed for systems with impulse pressure
  • VR - quick couplers with a special valve that allows you to reduce oil loss when disconnecting (only metric threads)

The assortment of Stucchi S.p.A also includes SATURN blocks, multi-connectors (battery connection), valves for 5 and 65 bar, plugs, special couplings.

When laying and using a water supply system, special fasteners cannot be dispensed with. Quick-detachable connections for hoses and pipes simplify the process of organizing and operating systems for supplying and distributing water, irrigation. Quick-release docking products are produced in various variations, which differ in size, functionality, and material of manufacture. Let's consider their main features.

Quick-detachable couplings (BRS) are called devices used for joining pipes, hoses, hoses and other various parts in production. This type of connection is used in a wide variety of areas of modern life and is characterized by high tightness and reliability in high pressure environments. To work with these products does not require any special tools, knowledge and skills.

Nowadays, quick-release couplings are constantly used in many areas of human activity and, due to their special characteristics and ease of operation, have firmly established themselves there. Let's list the areas where brs are used:

  • auto industry;
  • aircraft construction;
  • systems for water supply and water treatment;
  • connection of various pneumatic units;
  • defense industry
  • alternative energy;
  • shipbuilding;
  • production of chemicals;
  • Medical equipment;
  • railway transport;
  • construction;
  • polymer production;
  • mining production.

Useful information! I would like to note that in the mining industry, a special quick-release connection is used, equipped with a hinged clamp. With the help of this device, steel pipelines with a nominal diameter of 50 to 400 mm are joined, the working pressure in these lines can reach 32 MPa.

Device and principle of connection

The quick disconnect coupling consists of two main parts. These parts have a wide variety of names. But technically speaking, the correct names are "coupling" and "nipple", the popular names for these parts are "mom" and "dad".

The clutch ("mother") includes the following elements in its design:

  • frame;
  • fixing clamp, consisting of clamping balls and a locking sleeve;
  • reverse acting valve;
  • an O-ring required to seal the joint;
  • connecting adapter (built-in or separate).

The design of quick-release couplings can also consist of other elements, but such products can be found much less often than standard ones.

The nipple consists of the following parts:

  • frame;
  • check valve;
  • connection adapter (like a coupling, it can be both built-in and separate);
  • sealing element.

The assortment of quick-release couplings is wide enough, in which you can find a connector suitable for length, diameter and weight. Products with diameters from 12 to 150 mm are especially popular. Many manufacturers can make a design with individual parameters; for such products, the diameter can be up to 540 mm.

Installation of quick-release couplings is within the power of everyone, even without professional equipment and special skills. The quick disconnect device is connected as follows:

  1. On the coupling, first squeeze the locking sleeve. The spin is done towards the adapter. The clamping balls retract so that the sleeve can be inserted into the nipple without any problems.
  2. After that, the previously prepared sleeve is inserted into the nipple.
  3. After the sleeve is unclenched. After that, the coupling is firmly fixed in the nipple, at the same time, when fixing, the check valves are opened.

Remember! In order to remove the quick connectors, it is necessary to carry out all the above operations in the reverse order.

There are designs that do not require bushing clamping during installation. In these devices, the sleeve is inserted into the nipple without squeezing the tube, automatically. You just need to slightly press - and the connection is made.

Features and types of quick connectors

Most of the quick disconnect or quick disconnect couplings are made according to ISO standards. Quick-release couplings have a very useful quality - interchangeability. This suggests that parts of the same design can be made by different manufacturers from different countries of the world.

The materials from which couplings are made are very diverse:

  • stainless steel;
  • alloy steel;
  • aluminum;
  • bronze alloy;
  • titanium and its alloys;
  • alloys of other metals;
  • various polymers.

The service life of the quick couplers is influenced by a number of factors that must be taken into account when choosing a product:

  • type of working medium (water, oil, acid);
  • line pressure;
  • maximum and minimum media temperatures;
  • environment (humidity, rainfall, low or high air temperatures).

To improve the quality of the construction, it is usually additionally treated with an anti-corrosion coating. There are the following ways to apply protection to parts:

  • chrome plating;
  • nickel plating;
  • galvanization;
  • various solid applications.

A wide range of identical fittings makes it possible to connect not only identical pipes, but also products that are made of different materials.

Pressure couplings types:

  1. ISO-A quick disconnect hose couplings. Fits perfectly into hose systems with low working pressure. At the same time, it does not create obstacles for circulation within the system. The valves in it are made in the form of a cone.
  2. FIRG. These valves fit perfectly into a wide range of systems. When closed, this structure has no protruding parts. Valves in disc-shaped construction. Thanks to them, unnecessary resistance is not created in the system, and also exclude the possibility of air entering the system and the leakage of working fluid.
  3. TGW. These connections are ideal for systems with operating pressures ranging from 300 to 1100 bar. Like other quick-release couplings, they prevent air from entering the system and the leakage of hydraulic fluid. Caps for protection made of metal and plastic can be used as accessories. Such connections can withstand water hammer and impulse loads.
  4. NRA. These connections are used for domestic mobile hydraulic tools. They can withstand pressures up to 700 bar. Just like EPU type quick couplers, they are resistant to water hammer and impulse loads.

By the number and location of valves, the couplings are divided into three main groups:

  • with free passage (not equipped with valves);
  • with a valve on one side;
  • with valve on both sides.

Products with quick-fix sleeves have a convenient snap-on mechanism. Installation of such couplings is simple, and such a connection perfectly fixes the tubes.

Nowadays, these products differ in a fairly wide range of assortment, which makes it possible to choose a quick coupling for a specific situation. Now you can purchase a quick-release connection of several types:

  • Quick couplings equipped with a fixing wedge;
  • cam devices (Camlock);
  • European-made designs (BAUER and Perrot);
  • ISO connections that have a conical valve in their design.

Couplings can connect flexible hoses or plastic and metal pipelines. Quick-disconnect fittings for a variety of pipelines are made in various designs: couplings, tees, crosses, etc. A similar connection is made using a special clamping device - a collet.

Quick-release collet couplings help to quickly set up and dismantle the pipeline. One of the main features of such a connection is that thanks to it, it is possible to make a transition to a thread.

Advantages and disadvantages of quick couplings

Like all products, water quick couplings have their pros and cons. First, consider the advantages of these structures:

  • the breadth of distribution and choice (quick-release couplings can be bought without any problems in almost any specialized store);
  • the relatively low price allows you to buy them for domestic use;
  • allow to ensure high rates of joint tightness;
  • Quick couplings, due to their design features, are easy to mount and dismantle;
  • BRS reusable products;
  • They retain their properties over a long period of time.

The disadvantages include:

  • when using a combination of couplings from different manufacturers, the warranty is removed from the design;
  • 20% of such designs are made without the possibility of interchange.

Therefore, remember that quick couplings also require careful testing and selection.

Hose Quick Disconnect Fitting for Water

Hoses are widely used both in various enterprises and in everyday life. They are made from a variety of materials: polyvinyl chloride (PVC), rubber, silicone and others. Hoses are used to connect pneumatic tools, in addition, they are used for hydraulic structures. In the domestic sphere, they are used for watering.

It is worth remembering! Quick-release couplings for a variety of hoses make it faster and easier to assemble, sometimes connecting on the fly (with water turned on). This is quite convenient and saves a huge amount of time and effort, and also makes it possible to assemble the irrigation system during operation, so that you can adjust its configuration if necessary.

The quick-detachable hose connector makes it possible to install the hose, lengthen it or dock it with the pump. The diameters of these fittings vary from 12 to 150 mm.

It must be remembered that the reliability of a product does not depend on its price. Of course, when buying, it is better to focus on well-known manufacturers. But this does not give a 100% guarantee that this design is not fake or there are no defective parts in it. Therefore, when purchasing a quick-disconnect connection, you need to carefully study it visually, in addition, you should also carefully re-read the certificates offered to it.
