The finished product can, if desired, be decorated with woodcarving, completed glass door, cover with colored varnish or paint of a suitable color, artificially age, cover with gilding.

Exists a large number of options for decoration, one of which will definitely suit your design project.

Drawing of a bookshelf-rack

We cut out blanks for the shelves, base and backdrop from plywood with the following dimensions:
Shelves:
A / 16 pieces 25cm x 25cm
B / 4 pieces 25cm x 157.5cm
Back:
C / 1 piece 25cm x 91.25cm
Base:
D / 4 details 12.5cm x 25cm
E / 1 piece 12.5cm x 91.25cm

DIY bookshelf: step by step description

The first step is to glue the parts "A" in pairs to form vertical posts. For this, special wood glue is used. To keep the parts together, use the clamps before the glue dries.
In the same way, parts "D" are glued in pairs, which will serve as the base of the shelf.

It is necessary to clean the edges and surfaces of all parts with sandpaper... Then the shelves (parts "B") are painted in dark color, and the rest of the parts are covered with transparent varnish.

This creates a color contrast between in different parts shelves that will give it a sophisticated look. But, of course, you can use any other color combination.

To make the base, we connect parts D and E. For this, parts D are located perpendicular to part E, glue is applied to the junction, the parts are pressed together and fixed with screws.

In exactly the same way, part C and two parts A are connected (after they have been glued in pairs) to make the back of the bookshelf.

Then we glue three parts A to part B. The glue is applied to the shelf itself (part B), after which parts A are vertically installed in place. This process must be repeated twice to create two shelves.

Now you can start collecting yourself bookshelf... The base is placed on the floor, wood glue is applied to its upper surface, after which a shelf is placed on top.

For better adhesion it is necessary to use clamps or simply place a load on top of the shelf. Apply glue to the upper surface again and place the next section on top. And so on, to the very top.

Once the wood glue is completely dry, the shelf can be used. DIY interior items and furniture are several times more valuable than those purchased in a specialized store.

Shelves are quite often used not only to complement and decorate the overall interior of a room, but also for a clearer and more efficient organization of space. Thanks to their use, the owner of the apartment gets the opportunity to conveniently arrange great amount small things that will simply get lost in the closets.

Today there are a lot of different models which are made of different materials... They also differ in design.

You can choose not only products with classic design but also cutting edge designs.

But more and more people prefer to make such interior details on their own. Asking the question of how to make a shelf with their own hands, they re-read a lot of literature and look through many catalogs.

However, this does not mean that the independent production of the shelf is difficult and it is beyond the power of a person who does not have special skills. No, this is absolutely not the case.

Familiarization with the literature in this case is necessary in order to create a product with beautiful design that will fit into general interior... Let's consider in more detail what kind of shelves there are.

Varieties of shelves

Any specialist will tell you that before starting to create a product, you need to decide for yourself what kind of design you want to get and whether it will be combined with the interior. And only after that you can start creating the product.

Indeed, for a home decorated in a classically consistent style, it is completely unacceptable to use ultra-fashionable and modern shelves. They will look extremely ridiculous.

The most popular and widely known shelf type is the classic shelf. This is due to the fact that it is quite easy to install it, and appearance due to its simplicity, it seems refined and sophisticated.

Open, closed shelves are also used with success. Closed products are used most often for decoration and installation in rooms decorated in more modern styles... For their construction, glass and sometimes plastic are used.

Open structures can be used both in modernly decorated houses and in apartments with a classic design. Over the past few years, it is this type of shelf that has gained immense popularity and therefore is gradually replacing the classic options.

V small spaces quite often you can see corner shelves that have a special way of fastening. They are mounted on adjacent walls that are adjacent to each other. They are most commonly used in bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms.

In addition to the above types of shelves that are mounted on the wall, there are hanging and floor structures... Hanging shelves are mounted in an unusual way.

They are installed using cables and vertical posts, and is attached directly to the ceiling. This mount looks quite unusual and original.

Floor structures are most often used in hallways. After all, it is the hand-made floor shelves for shoes that not only look beautiful, but also help you organize the space of a small hallway. At the same time, making them is quite simple.

How to make a simple shelf?

To create the claimed product, you should purchase or prepare some tools and materials in advance. You can use whichever suits you best as connecting elements. But the most popular are ordinary self-tapping screws, brackets and dowels.

Note!

For example, let's take a photo of the shelves with our own hands, which is presented below. It shows a product with the following parameters: width 250 mm, height 300 mm, length 1100 mm. For convenience, the manufacturing process will be divided into stages.

Stages of work

In the first step, you need to do the markup. To do this, you should lay the boards on a table or any other flat surface and transfer measurements from drawings. The side walls must be exactly 268 mm high.

This marking is optimal because the side walls will be located between the two parts.

At the second stage, it is required to cut the boards. To get even and neat cuts, you must use a jigsaw. After cutting, you will have 2 fairly long pieces and 2 shorter ones.

At the third stage, you can start processing the resulting blanks. The resulting sections should be covered with a special protective varnish or with a stain, having previously sanded them.

Note!

In the event that you only plan to paint the shelf, you can get by with a conventional antiseptic primer. So you will not only increase the service life, but also achieve a more even distribution of paint.

At the fourth stage of making a wooden shelf with your own hands, you proceed to its direct assembly. Place the bottom board on a flat surface. Depart 8 mm from the ends of the workpiece and draw two lines parallel to the cuts.

On them, 2 points should be marked with a distance of 5 cm from the edge. At the marked points, it is necessary to drill holes for self-tapping screws. The same manipulations must be done with the second workpiece.

After that, you should install the side blanks on the bottom section of the board and secure them. Once you are done securing the side panels, proceed with installing the top panel and securing it.

At the fifth stage, you should fix the brackets at the ends of the side panels, and make several holes in the wall for the dowels. Then screw in the self-tapping screws so that they protrude by 5 mm. And now your shelf is ready.

You can make acoustic shelves in the same way, but you need to take into account the dimensions of the equipment itself. Measurements should be done carefully, because if you are wrong, the work will have to start over.

Note!

Photos of shelves with your own hands

Books, regardless of the genre of works, must always be kept in order. As a rule, special cabinets or mezzanines are used to store paper literature. Hanging shelves for books are very popular. You can make these fixtures yourself. Next, let's figure out how to make a book shelf with your own hands.

Simple constructions

The most common are book shelves, which are made up of upright racks in which holes are drilled. Special pegs are inserted into them. They, in fact, hold the shelf for books. It is not difficult to make such a structure with your own hands. You can use as racks wooden blocks or metal The shelf holders for the bookshelf can be a steel corner.

Racks

They are different. Book shelves of the simplest design are made using bars stacked on both sides. They fit on top.The sizes of the shelves for books can also be different. It all depends on the number and size of the publications themselves. For example, there may be shelves for books, the dimensions of which are 220x22x2 cm. Bars are recommended to be used from larch, pine or fir. It is also quite possible to apply chipboard or elements old furniture... For the construction of a medium-sized rack (5 shelves), you will need about 65 bars. Popular and metal constructions... They are usually collapsible. As you increase or decrease the number of volumes, you can add or remove book shelves. Luminaires can be mounted on the back of the rack. If desired, the bars and shelves can be painted, pasted over with wallpaper. Such simple construction suitable for a room decorated in a minimalist style.

An important point

When assembling a shelf for books with your own hands, the distance between the support bars should be at least 1.2 meters. Otherwise, the panel will bend under the weight of the literature. In general, such a design will look unattractive.

Is it possible to do without bars?

Can. Not everyone would like to see bars on the walls. There are two other ways to make a book shelf.

1. First option. In this case, the rack looks like a box. It is built between two walls. This is how a niche is formed. The vertical sides are not formed by a solid board. They are made up of scraps that are the same thickness and width as a book shelf. These parts are supporting and are used instead of bars. The construction is assembled like this:

The second option is invisible mounts

The shelf for books can be mounted on the wall so that the fixing elements are completely invisible. In this case, the boards are installed on long screws (there should be 4 of them - 2 on each side). They are screwed in using wooden plugs (rods). The part of the screw that protrudes from the wall will support the shelf. To decorate the protruding element, you can use a plastic tube of the desired diameter. It can be transparent or colored in any suitable color... It is recommended to use screws with a round head. In the areas where these support elements will be screwed in, holes of the appropriate diameter should be drilled. Hardwood pins can be used instead of metal screws. As support elements, they must fit into the recesses that are made on the underside of each shelf. Difficulties can arise with the installation of the pins strictly horizontally. To control the position (vertical / horizontal) it is necessary to use a level. There are also supports in the form of a violin, with a coupling or a screw thread. It is enough to simply install shelves on them - both made of wood and glass. Such structures are quite durable and attractive in appearance. The holes for the support parts must be drilled exactly so that they are exactly parallel.

Cremaliers

It is possible to install shelves along the wall without forming niches. Here the consoles could be secured using toothed rack brackets (racks). Exists different types frame structures. For example, there are those where vertical slats are covered with panels of varnished or waxed wood or plywood, which is covered with material. As a result, only shelves and consoles are visible. This design allows you to completely mask any surface defects. You can also use metal or wooden racks, which are placed against the floor from ceiling to floor. Blocks are fixed on them - quadrangular compartments. The shelves are fastened using spacer screws.

Hanging shelves

Instead of conventional designs you can make hinged open shelves or cabinets without back wall... They are easily fixed with two bolts and brackets. The first ones are screwed into the wall. Brackets (hangers) are fixed to the shelves from the back. The latter can also be fastened in hollow-cut racks. In this case, they will be invisible. Such hinged shelves are assembled from chipboard. Two-centimeter boards are joined to each other using a plug-in tenon, putty and painted.

Rack "cubes"

This is what a children's book shelf might look like. The construction device based on the principle of playing cubes allows you to create funny structures, taking as a basis numerous combinations. By storing individual boxes in a herringbone in the center of the room, you can divide the two parts of the library with editions of different topics. For example, it can be entertainment and educational literature. Bookcase bookshelves can also be positioned along the walls at a certain distance between the structures. The gaps between boxes can also be used by increasing the total storage capacity. Boxes are assembled from chipboard, the thickness of which is 1 cm. The dimensions of the boxes are 50x23x25 cm (approximately). In each box, two boards (top and bottom) 50x23 cm each can be used, the sides - 25x23 cm and the back wall 48x23 cm.Since the width of all elements does not exceed 23 cm, you just need to cut out the parts along the length. When cutting, it is recommended to mark and saw the material one by one. You should not draw everything at once. This is due to the probable cutting error of 3-4 mm.

Assembly of boxes

The side walls are attached to the ribs on the rear side. You can use nails and / or glue to fix it. After that, the top board and bottom are attached to the side and rear parts. After that, the entire structure is dried (if glue was used). All sides of the box must be proportional and equal in relation to each other. The edges are sanded, sharp corners and the edges are rounded. Finally, the structure can be painted. If it is intended for storing children's books, then it can be decorated colorfully, make applications or use multi-colored paint. When choosing materials for decoration, it is necessary to take into account their safety for humans, especially for a child.

Revolving shelf

It can be a piece of furniture and placed in a recreation area. The shelf on roller wheels is very convenient to use. This design, painted in two colors (red and white or white and ocher), looks very modern and attractive. In general, the design is quite simple to manufacture. The main difficulty can be only fitting and fixing the components at right angles. To assemble the bookcase you will need:

Preparatory work

The same shelves are cut from the boards. A support rod is made from a bar (the required length is sawn off). Draw diagonals on the shelves and draw a square in the center of their intersection. Its cross-section must exactly match. A through-square is cut out in the upper and lower shelves. It should turn out in such a way that support bar entered it without difficulty. Sampling of wood can be carried out using a chisel. Next, the side vertical walls are made. All finished elements are sanded. To facilitate the process, on the shelves - from the lower and upper sides - you need to apply marks where the vertical partitions will be located.

Assembly technology

The four vertical baffles are glued and nailed to the support bar. This will form the first floor. The whole structure is glued and nailed to the bottom shelf. The upper edges of the vertical partitions are greased with glue. The next shelf is pushed onto the rod and nailed. Further, in the same way, the vertical partitions of the next floor are fixed. The carnations are hammered obliquely. Their caps need to be drowned with a rivet hammer. By the way, you can replace them. Next, the next shelf is glued and nailed. The work is repeated until all the details are installed. At the level of the last vertical baffles, the support center rod is sheared off. Next, four side walls are glued and nailed. They should be of such length that their upper part protrudes 1 cm and the lower one 2 cm beyond the edges of the horizontal elements. Four rollers on the axles are fixed from below. Their total height- 9 cm. After that, the surfaces are carefully sanded again, all edges are smoothed, the edges are sanded. After completing these works, you can start finishing the whatnot. It can be painted, varnished or decorated with decorative carvings. This design does not take up much space, is compact and convenient.

For storing household items and placing small household appliances it is not always advisable to order separate furniture for a room. For the elaboration of the design, the choice of materials suitable for the interior of the room, and the assembly of shelves, you will have to pay money, which is always not enough. More cheap way solve the problem - come up with original design and make your own wall shelves. To do this, you should familiarize yourself with the options for similar products, their drawings and manufacturing technology described below.

Types of homemade shelves

As you can imagine, there are countless design solutions for the manufacture and design of shelves. All structures are conventionally divided into 4 groups according to the method of fastening:

  1. Classic mounted, mounted on free area walls. Most often they are intended for storing books, therefore they are made of rectangular shape. But nothing prevents you from being imaginative and giving the product an unusual look, making it square, round or consisting of several parts, as shown in the drawing below.
  2. Corner shelves designed to effectively use the space where 2 walls form an inner or outer corner. They are successfully used not only for arranging literature, but also for arranging flowers, various souvenirs and small household appliances (for example, a small TV or printer).
  3. Suspended, attached to the wall or ceiling with flexible ropes or strings. One of interesting solutions- flower shelf suspended on belts.
  4. Floor structures. These include open shoe cabinets and racks with big amount cells for storing a variety of household items or tools.

Note. We say - constructions are divided conventionally, since there is a mass combined options... For example, wall-mounted book shelves can be projected on the floor or suspended from the ceiling.

For self-made shelves are used following materials:

  • wood and its derivatives - chipboard, MDF, plywood, laminate;
  • glass;
  • metal.

Metal chrome tubes here serve as fasteners

Wood materials are readily available and work well, therefore they are used most often. If you show your imagination, you can make a beautiful shelf of any kind out of wood irregular shape... To make the books inside less dusty, use simple solution- put sliding glass doors, then you get a nice closed cabinet.

Simple glazed cabinet

It is quite difficult to make a shelf entirely of metal or glass. In the first case, you need to have necessary tools, right up to welding, and in the second you will have to work with tempered glass and special fasteners, a simple one may not withstand the load. So these materials are best used as decorative or fasteners, and the main part is assembled from wood.

Corner shelf with visible fixings

Making a simple wooden shelf

The simplest shelves on the wall, designed for books and all kinds of small things, are a rectangular box, assembled by hand from boards or laminated chipboard. The last option is convenient in all respects - the surface does not need to be processed, just adjust the dimensions and paste over the ends with veneer to match the color of the laminated layer.

Advice. You don't have to buy new ones chipboard plates if there are elements of old furniture left at home. To ennoble them, it is enough to putty the unnecessary holes and stick a special film with a wood pattern. For example, make the shelf white, as shown in the photo.

For assembly from solid wood, the boards must be properly prepared - cut, grind and round off sharp corners. Manufacturing procedure hinged shelf next:

  1. Guided by the drawing, mark the material for trimming, using a tape measure and a pencil. Cut 4 pieces to size.
  2. Treat the surfaces of the sanded boards with varnish, and cover the ends of the chipboard with veneer.
  3. Mark the fastening points on the sidewalls and drill holes together with the horizontal panels. Twist them together with furniture screws - confirmations and install decorative plastic plugs.
  4. For the back wall, use fiberboard sheet with a white cover, securing it with short self-tapping screws.

Note. In order for solid wood parts to last longer, they should be treated with an antiseptic composition before applying varnish.

Finally, screw the mounting brackets at the back or prepare the holes for the hidden wall mounting... If you think it is necessary, you can glaze the shelf in front by installing opening or sliding doors. For more information on how bookshelves are made of wood for a living room or a children's room, see the video:

How to hang a shelf on the wall

The last step is to install the bookshelf on the wall at the planned location. There are 2 mounting methods:

  • on homemade or purchased brackets;
  • on secret mounts.

Regardless of the selected fastening technology, the procedure remains the same. The first step is to mark the drilling points on the wall, guided by the mounting brackets. In this case, it is advisable to align the horizontal line between the points using building level... The installation algorithm is as follows:

  1. Using measurements, determine the position of the points, mark them with a pencil and check the horizontal between them.
  2. Drill holes. Drive plastic plugs under the brackets and tighten the self-tapping screws so that they protrude by about 5 mm.
  3. Hang the shelf on the mounts. If it sticks out strongly forward, then the screws need to be screwed in 1-2 turns.
  4. When mounting on hidden anchor rods (called titans), insert them into the holes drilled in the wall and tighten with a wrench. At the end of the shelf, make counter holes of the required depth and put it on the titans.

Advice. It happens that the floors and ceilings in the apartment are uneven and the shelf, suspended according to measurements, visually looks crooked. Then only the first point is measured, and the second is determined "by eye" after mounting the product on one bracket.

How the wooden shelf is placed on hidden anchors is shown in the following video:

Corner shelves

Such stands are appropriate to make in places where the walls of the room form an inner corner. Such interior solutions not only look good, but also allow you to effectively use the area of the room. For example, a corner printer shelf next to computer desk will free up space on it for work and writing utensils. Conversely, a shelf installed on outer corner, will bulge into the room, so it will have to be made narrow and small, as shown in the picture.

Manufacturing technology corner shelf is simple: it is necessary to cut a triangular blank from the laminated chipboard, refine it from the ends and put it in place. It is advisable to use secret anchors if you plan to place one or more of these supports in the hall. Mounting is done like this:

  1. Putting on a shelf on 2 "titans" sticking out of the walls at an angle will not work. Therefore, they need to be positioned on one side by drilling holes in chipboard end and the wall.
  2. The second face will need to be cut longitudinal groove where the slide mount will fit.
  3. Punch a hole in the adjacent wall, hammer plastic stopper and screw in the 90 ° angled steel hook. Its end should be horizontal.
  4. Slide the shelf onto the anchors installed on one side. In this case, the end of the hook will go into the groove and will not allow the table top to bend under the load. The process is described in detail in the following video:

How to make hanging bookshelves

Here we propose to consider the creative design of a bookshelf, made from a regular thick board suspended from a rope or twine. The idea is simple: to make a beautiful tabletop out of a board by firing, and then tie it to two self-tapping screws screwed into the wall. The work is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Cut the board to size electric jigsaw or a hacksaw. Treat sharp edges.
  2. Burn the surfaces blowtorch or gas burner to blackness.
  3. Sand the block to remove the top layer of soot and the structure of the wood is clearly visible.
  4. Drill 2 holes on each side for the twine. Apply varnish to the board and let it dry.

The resulting shelf is easily suspended from self-tapping screws or hooks on a rope. Considering that the horizontal position of the board can be adjusted by the length of the suspension from one side or the other, it is not necessary to scrupulously check the level of the hooks.

After firing and stripping, the grain of the wood appears more clearly

Note. If you use 2 belts instead of a rope, then you do not need to drill holes in the shelf, and simply screw the ends of the suspension to the wall, as is done in the photo.

Conclusion

In most cases, make and hang wooden shelf- it's not difficult. If you have a large fleet of tools, then you can tackle more serious structures with supports from nickel-plated pipes or elements of artistic forging. Applying fantasy and skillful hands, you will surely make shelves that are in perfect harmony with the interior of the house.

What could be more commonplace than a regular wall shelf? But good imagination and skillful hands can work wonders with such a simple object, turning it into a beautiful element of your home's interior design.

One of the techniques for decorating a room is using shelves.

All materials have their own advantages and disadvantages. The following are suitable for wall shelves.

  • Timber lumber is the most common and cheapest - it is easy to cut into pieces, process and paint.
  • Metal - not always suitable, it is more difficult to process at home, shelves from it do not fit well into home interior are subject to corrosion.
  • Glass - looks great in the interior of any room, makes the shelves visually lighter and more airy, but due to its fragility, it requires special tools and equipment for cutting complex holes and grinding.
  • Plastic is the lightest material that can replace all the previous ones.

Shelves are hung on the wall, placed on the floor, some are hung from the ceiling or beams.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION! Man's fantasy in the choice of material for shelves on the wall is inexhaustible - old suitcases, TV cases, water pipes and corners. Even… trouser belts can be used as fasteners.

Much more often they are functional.

Buy or make a shelf on the wall with your own hands

What is the advantage of homemade wall shelves over purchased ones? Furniture stores offer options for all occasions - bookshelves, for dishes, for phones, for flowers. But in defense of homemade products, the following arguments can be made:

  • the purchased shelf does not always correspond to your ideas about beauty - either the color is not suitable, or the shape is awkward;
  • the dimensions of the purchased product do not fit into the size of your room;
  • the height or width of the shelves does not match the size of the things you want to place on them;
  • after the repair there were pieces good stuff and fasteners - it's a pity to throw away, but there is no desire and place to store.

But best of all - they are easy to make yourself, with your own hands.

ON A NOTE! Making shelves on the wall with your own hands is often cheaper than purchasing them in the store of a well-known furniture company.

They are made of wood, plywood, laminated chipboard, Fiberboard, glass shelves.

Shelves are different

Before assembling the shelf, determine what type it will be. Furniture craftsmen got the hang of making wall shelves for all occasions:

  • open - without side walls, front doors and back walls;
  • closed - in essence, such shelves are hanging cabinets in miniature, differing from them in less weight, depth and height;
  • corner - located at the junction of two walls, can be both for inner corner and for external;
  • asymmetric - the arrangement of the shelves is devoid of an axis of symmetry, provided that the functionality is preserved;
  • suspended - harnesses, cables, dense fabric materials, belts are used as suspensions for the shelves, and the ceiling is used as a support;
  • decorative - designed to beautifully arrange interesting things.

The same materials are used as racks, but they are also made of metal, plastics and other completely incredible things - for example, pipes or bottles.

Module - a universal solution

The easiest way is to assemble wall shelves, consisting of side, top and bottom walls, fastened together with self-tapping screws or furniture fittings... Make these "modules" of different lengths and heights required amount and mount them on the wall at the right order... This option is well suited for making bookshelves.

V living rooms it is not so important what material the shelf is made of. It is important that its design is in the same style as the interior.

You will need the following materials and tools:

  • a board with a thickness of 16-20 mm and a width of 150-180 mm - it can be pine, MDF, plywood or chipboard.
  • self-tapping screws;
  • screwdriver;
  • building level;
  • furniture hacksaw for wood.

Even the functionality is not always important: some play an exclusively decorative role. If there is one or two items on them.

Marking and sawing

The height and width of the shelf are freely selectable. If the ends of the upper and lower walls rest against the edges of the side walls, then, when determining their height, it is necessary to make an amendment for the doubled thickness of the board.

Their role is to give the interior of the home special style and color.

ATTENTION! Use a hand-held circular saw or jigsaw to cut the board. Their use allows you to make the cut surface smooth.

If we talk about the shelves in Technical buildings- the kitchen and the bathroom, in particular, the requirements for practicality are almost universally added to considerations of aesthetics.

When marking parts for corner wall shelves, the upper and lower walls are made of two boards with oblique ends. Their connection must fit exactly into the corner for which they are intended. The surface of the ends is lubricated with wood glue, the boards are connected and tightened with clamps until completely dry. Additionally, you can fasten the corners with self-tapping screws.

Workpiece processing

Before installation wooden parts shelves must be sanded and applied protective covering... Wood can be stained and varnished. However, such a shelf does not always fit into the overall color range interior. Then it is better to apply a primer and paint it in the desired color.

For security in the place where the self-tapping screw is screwed into lower part the sidewalls need to be drilled in advance thin drill holes.

Assembling the shelf

To fasten the walls with self-tapping screws, you need to mark the holes. From the end edge of the bottom wall, measure a distance equal to half the thickness of the side wall and draw a line parallel to the cut. Marks are made on it for the drill, stepping back five centimeters to the left and right. The opposite end is also marked. Make holes. Fix the side walls of the shelf with self-tapping screws. The top wall of the shelf is marked and fastened in the same way.

So that the shelf is even, and subsequently it does not warp, in the lower part, on the reverse side, you can fix the location of the parts with flat window corners.

ON A NOTE! For fixing the walls of the shelf, other methods can also be used - wooden dowels with carpentry glue, special fastening accessories - screed corners, eccentric screeds.

Although electronic devices are pushing printed editions out of human life, yet many people carefully keep books and magazines dear to their hearts, the storage location of which often leaves much to be desired.

Installing the shelf on the wall

It would seem that nothing is easier. In fact, this is a crucial stage. You do not want all your efforts to improve your home collapse at once?

The easiest way is to use a hinged corner for shelves. The upper eyelet is attached to the wall with a dowel, the lower one - to the shelf with a self-tapping screw or a bolt with a nut and washer.

IMPORTANT! When loading the shelf from 20 to 50 kg, use brackets. Mark the holes on the wall using a building level.

Hands must be clean, because untreated wood is very easily soiled.

The dimensions of the shelf will depend on how large the books will be stored on it.

Manufacturing of honeycomb shelves

The shelf of the original form requires you to show imagination and a little more diligence, but your efforts will more than pay off - the original product will revive interior view rooms.

  1. We cut the board into 15 pieces 300 mm long with a cutting angle of 30 °.
  2. Making the first honeycomb. To do this, we glue the hexagonal section and strengthen its corners with self-tapping screws.
  3. All other "honeycomb" shelves are made without one wall.
  4. We fold them on the floor in such a way that the missing face is replaced by the wall of the adjacent section. We fasten together with glue and self-tapping screws.
  5. If there are segments left of sufficient length, then you can make shelves inside the "honeycomb" itself.

Each part needs to be processed with a grinder, only then it can be fastened with other parts into a single structure.

IMPORTANT! To avoid cracks and distortions when tightening self-tapping screws, pre-drill holes with a diameter of 1.2 mm or more.

Of course, you can't do without a tool. The minimum is a wood saw and a Phillips screwdriver.

Strength requirements are imposed on bookshelves: they hold significant weight.

Bookshelf with hidden fittings

If your taste is offended by the appearance of the fastening accessories, then you can make a small open shelf with hidden fasteners.

First of all, you need to think over the dimensions of the shelf being made and decide on the place where it will be located, only after that purchase the boards.

It is not uncommon to see people decorate their homes with artificial flowers, but still nothing can replace the freshness of a natural, beautiful plant.

This requires:

  • wooden beams with a thickness of 25-30 mm with a well-polished surface;
  • a board of the same thickness, made from the same material;
  • pins - cylindrical pins made of wood;
  • joiner's glue;
  • dowels and screws.

Thanks to the modern universal tool a craftsman can make almost any shelf, even in an apartment, let alone work in his workshop.

The assembly of such a shelf consists of the following steps.

  1. Saw the bar and the board into pieces of equal length.
  2. Using a template, coincide holes are made in the side of the bar and the future shelf, the diameter and total depth of which should coincide with the length of the dowels.
  3. The timber is attached to the wall using dowels and self-tapping screws.
  4. The pins greased with glue are carefully driven into the holes of the timber.
  5. The surfaces of the timber and the shelves, which will be connected with their help, are also lubricated with glue.
  6. The shelf is "put on" on the pins and pressed tightly. For safety, you can gently tap the entire length of the side of the shelf with a rubber mallet.

Of course, you immediately want to make something voluminous and beautiful, which is quite natural, but first you can try your hand at making a simple but neat shelf.

This shelf will look like a natural extension of the wall of your room. Just don't load it with too many items.

Moreover, these products may be the first self-made things. It's really simple.

Decor is everything

You have collected and hung the shelves on the wall. But they look unpresentable - too empty or, on the contrary, overwhelmed with books and other trifles. To make wall shelves in the interior of your room look aesthetically pleasing and eye-catching, follow these simple rules.

  • The law of three colors - one dominant color for the shelf and two complementary for the items on it. It is desirable that the color of the shelf contrasts with the objects standing on it - this way they will look more expressive.
  • Control chaos with triads. Arrange items with similar colors on different shelves so that they are at the tops of imaginary triangles.
  • Give more air - some items, especially large ones, require more free space on the shelf.
  • Little things need a good background. For example, a figurine standing on a shelf next to a luxurious vase must be moved away from a spectacular neighbor and placed in the background small picture in watercolor technique.
  • Try to place objects that are similar in size and color to an imaginary vertical or horizontal axis of symmetry.
  • The higher the shelf, the lighter the items should be. It is advisable to place all massive objects on the lower ones, and light ones on the upper shelves.
  • Do not forget about functionality - on the shelf located at the level of your eyes, place those things that you most often use.

A simple design is good: you can make any shelves yourself.

Feel free to experiment. Wall shelf can be made from any material, but lumber is best. Use hanging brackets or brackets for installation. And do not be lazy to beautifully place books and vases on them.

Structurally, most of the shelves consist of shelves proper and lintels.
