How to save money on water: tips that will help you really save your family budget. How to save water in an apartment: tips How to save on water meters

Everyone needs water, but everyone lacks it. Life in big cities spoiled many with the availability of necessary goods and made them forget about reasonable economy. Utilities tariffs awaken from such carelessness and make you think twice before taking a bath every day, turn on the washing machine to wash one T-shirt or not turn on the taps.

There are many ways to save on water bills, some of them are illegal, and some of them allow you to use the resources of the planet wisely, which means you pay less. If you are starting construction work and want to add these tricks to it, use. With their help, the renovation will take place without holes in the budget, and the premises itself will not need to be redone in the future.

A careful attitude to water consumption must be brought up in yourself and your offspring. To do this, you should properly organize your life and lifestyle, turning an economical approach into a habit:

  1. Washing and washing of dishes must be carried out in fully loaded machines. You shouldn't turn on the machine for the sake of one thing. It is also advisable to abandon the additional rinse mode. Waste rinse for allergy sufferers and newborns. In other cases, select economy mode and phosphate-free detergents.
  2. Wash the dishes with your hands under a gentle pressure of water. Another way is to turn on the tap, lather all the kitchen utensils, and then rinse. If it is difficult to control the water supply yourself, you can screw on the stopcocks on the pipes. Then the head will be less, and this will make it possible to save on water bills.
  3. Repair plumbing fixtures. It is necessary to exclude the possibility of leaking taps and passing water in the drain tank. You also always need to tighten the taps tightly.
  4. Brushing your teeth takes more than one minute, so you should turn off the water during this hygiene procedure, and you can use a glass to rinse your mouth. A similar principle should be followed when taking a shower.
  5. It is better for car owners to abandon the hose in favor of a bucket. This approach will help save water in half.
  6. Installing diffuser-aerators on taps will allow you to use less water when washing your hands. Nowadays, such attachments are common, but once they were.
  7. Place a couple of plastic bottles filled with water at the bottom of the toilet cistern. With their help, you can reduce the capacity of the tank and save on water consumption when flushing. Another option is to change the old cistern for a modern model, which has two buttons: for full and partial draining.
  8. Replace the mixer with twist-off taps with a lever mixer. It makes it easier to control the temperature of the water.
  9. Connect a foot pedal to the sink. The water supply is carried out only after pressing the pedal, and this can significantly reduce the consumption.
  10. If a lot of people live in the apartment and you have to wash dishes often, it is better to get a dishwasher. A good model saves you more than 40 liters of water per day and saves you a lot of time.
Daily use of these principles will reduce water consumption by 500 liters.

If your minimum income is less than the subsistence level, you can apply for a housing subsidy. Also, families who spend more than 22% of their income on utilities can count on help from the state. Muscovites have the right to count on a subsidy at 10% of the total income.

The active increase in tariffs for housing and communal services has generated a lot of talk. Specialists who know how to save on bills began to be invited to radio and television programs. Here's what they recommend:

  • Soak dishes before washing ... According to this principle, the inhabitants of Western countries have lived for more than one decade. Soaking not only saves on water consumption, but also makes the washing process easier. Remnants of food, dried liquids adhering to the plates can be easily washed off if the dishes are soaked for several hours in a sink with detergent, previously closed with a stopper. Usually, two sinks are used for these purposes; in a single case, you can use a bucket or a deep bowl.
  • Before washing, kitchen utensils are wiped with a sponge with a fresh portion of detergent, and only then rinsed. In order to be less fooled with soaking, it is worth using frying and baking less often. Boiled and steamed food is easier to wash from dishes and is good for your health.
  • Use used water ... If you still have water left in the kettle or after boiling the eggs, don't rush to empty it. The secondary liquid can be used for good purposes: watering indoor plants, wiping dust or the floor, using it to soak dishes, etc.
  • The easiest way to collect liquid is to place the container on the bottom of the sink every time you wash vegetables or fruits.
  • The use of secondary water is practiced all over the world. Australians use liquid collected in the bathtub and in the kitchen, using it to wash cars or to serve in a toilet bowl. In Germany, the remaining boiled water is poured into a thermos and used for cooking or washing dishes.
  • Shower wisely ... Once upon a time, only rich people could afford to soak up the bathroom. Now this pleasure cannot be called affordable either. An average bath has a few tens of liters, so if you want to save on water bills, take a shower. It is worth giving up the bath for another reason - it is not particularly hygienic.

It is easy to save on water procedures:

  • take a shower with your loved one more often; when soaping, turn off the water;
  • install the diffuser on the tap (it will save 40% of water);
  • do not turn on the tap under high pressure.

In order to take a shower comfortably, study in advance.

However, sometimes you can pamper yourself and soak in the bathroom without harming your budget. It will take a little patience and time: to get a bath, you need to turn on the tap on a small stream of water. The meter will not be able to calculate the water consumption, since the head will be minimal. By this principle, you can take a bath overnight, and then use the water for domestic purposes.

Choosing economical plumbing

For minimum water consumption, special taps are used. Often they can be found in cafeterias and fast foods with a large flow of people. Such plumbing is equipped with touch sensors: by capturing the warmth of the hands, it supplies water at the optimal temperature, and when there is no movement, the water is automatically turned off. This method helps to save water with the greatest comfort for consumers. It cannot be called cheap, but thanks to the savings on bills, it will pay off quickly.

Care should be taken to update the toilets. Outdated samples require a large amount of water to flush - about 25 liters. Whereas modern models consume no more than four liters. This is an expensive way to save money, but very effective.

Repair the water leak in a timely manner

A dripping faucet can hurt your budget a lot. Every day he “steals” about ten liters of water, a leak consumes more than three hundred liters per month, and deprives you of 27 baths within a year.

In order not to waste resources and money in vain, eliminate the leak in time. Finding them is not always easy, so you can invite a plumber to assess the condition of your plumbing fixtures.

You can independently check the cistern - pour food coloring into it and observe the toilet bowl. If after a short time it becomes pigmented, then it's time to fix the leak.

Installation of calculating devices is the most reasonable solution in a situation of constant increase in utility tariffs. With water meters, you will not overpay for extra cubic meters of water, which are charged in a certain amount for each resident of the apartment. You will only pay for the amount of fluid you have consumed.

Counters are individual and general. According to the principle of operation, they are classified into tacheometric, electromagnetic, vortex and ultrasonic. The first option is more often than others installed in apartments, since they operate without power supply. But they should be regularly cleaned of contaminated water and filters changed.

Counters practically do not take up space, but it is important that there is constant access to them. This should be taken into account,.

You can install devices yourself or invite a wizard. In the latter case, you will have to pay not only for the meters, but also for the installation. If you decide to install the device yourself, you need to make sure that the installation is correct, otherwise the representative of the water utility will not seal the meter.

To register a water meter, you will need a number of documents:

  • certificate of delivery and acceptance of the installed calculating device (it contains the meter number, date of installation, information about the consumer, representatives of the installation organization);
  • technical passport for the calculating device (the date of installation and commissioning, as well as the primary indicators of the device are indicated);
  • a document on the control of a water metering device (dates and information about meter checks are recorded, they are carried out every four years).

Water meters allow you to save water at times, and also bring up a thrifty attitude to the consumption of resources. You will have to pay only for the consumed water, because without calculating devices the amount of the bill is divided by the registered tenants. Often you have to pay for commercial organizations connected to the communications of a residential building, when tenants share their costs. The counter saves you from unnecessary waste and allows you to pay only after the fact.

The installation and adjustment of water meters made many people rethink the issue of water consumption. Constant payments for water use leave no one happy, so the challenge of reducing utility costs remains in place. How to legally and illegally save water in an apartment with a meter?

The legal way to save money in an apartment is to reduce water consumption on a legal basis, without any decrease in comfort, and without harm in terms of personal hygiene of a person.

Consider ways to reduce water consumption:

  • Plumbing

At the time of installation or after installation of the meter, special attention must be paid to all kinds of leaks. As practice shows, everyone has them, but not everyone wants to deal with them and therefore water overruns occur. So, for example, a malfunction in the drain barrel leads to a loss of 65 thousand liters of water per year, and a leaking tap will provide a loss of 75 thousand liters. And if you take into account that there is more than one leak in an apartment or house, then there are much more losses.

To prevent such problems, it is necessary to install lever mixers instead of the usual valves. The mixer can turn off the tap much more efficiently.

  • Mixers

As mentioned above, the best mixer option is a lever mixer. Using conventional faucets, we have been trying for a long time to set the required water temperature, which is why we drain precious liters.

  • Toilet bowl

Water loss can be caused not only by leaking old toilet bowls. There are devices that have two modes of operation: full drain and economical. By choosing an economical mode of operation, you can save up to 20-25 liters of water per year. To find out if there is a leak in the drain barrel, you just need to throw a dye into it. If, after a certain amount of time, a tint appears on the bottom of the barrel, then there is a leak.

  • Showering instead of bathing

Train yourself and your household to use water efficiently. A simple example: many brushing their teeth leave the tap open and at the time of the procedure itself the water is wasted for a couple of minutes. To prevent this from happening, you just need to turn off the tap.

It would seem that all of the above is a trifle, but if you think about it, you can save up to 12 cubic meters of water per year by following simple tips. Also, write a memo and look at it regularly. It will be especially useful for children who are careless about this issue. They don't think about billing, because the burden of responsibility rests on the shoulders of the parents. For them, such a reminder will definitely not be superfluous. All family members should know how to save water in an apartment with a meter!

Not taking water procedures several times a day can save a creature on water consumption. Lovers will luxuriate in bathroom filled with hotwater it is worth doing this less often, giving preference to a shower stall.

This does not mean that one should practically give up such pleasure. Sometimes you can afford it, but not every day. Thus, much less water will be spent. Frugal people know that there are many special tap nozzles designed specifically to save water. These types of lotions can reduce fluid consumption to about 6 liters per minute. It is possible to minimize the consumption even for checksingle lever mixer, which simultaneously mixes a stream of hot and cold water.

So, when using a shower, about 85 liters of water is consumed in a 6-minute procedure, which is clearly not enough for taking a bath. For the best effect, you can install a shower head with small holes, which will reduce the initial consumption by 30 to 50%.

  • Boiler installation

In most parts of the country, installing a boiler is an economical way to save water. However, energy costs should also be considered. However, a huge plus of the boiler lies in the accurate use of hot water, that is, it is not necessary to use hot water all the time, especially in the summer.

Tips for saving water

In addition to the above methods, there are also minor ones that should be paid special attention to.

For example, you need to pay attention:

  1. Open the tap with water strictly as needed. Most people are used to keeping the water running when brushing their teeth or washing their hands.
  2. Washing the laundry in the washing machine is more efficient once, but with a lot of laundry, than several times, but with a small amount of laundry.
  3. Housewives have to prepare food and wash dishes every day. For those with a large family, it will be more profitable to purchase a dishwasher. With it, you can wash more dishes with the least amount of water. Moreover, cold water is supplied to it, the tariffs for which are cheaper. Hot water is required to wash oily dishes by hand. As we can see, arithmetic is simple. You can also buy a special nozzle on the kitchen faucet, which is mentioned above. If, nevertheless, the dishes are washed by hand, then it is more correct to divide this procedure into two stages. First, lather to remove the main fat and dirt, and then rinse off under a small stream of running water. Rinse fruits or vegetables in a container. This saves up to 70% of the water used
  4. Try to wash your laundry by loading the drum completely, according to the instructions for your model. Do not select a long wash cycle and do not wash daily unless absolutely necessary. When performing this procedure with your hands, do not leave the tap turned on while the process itself is in progress.
  5. The same rules apply to cleaning. We rinsed the rag and turned off the tap. Do not forget about the song from the cartoon, where there are these words: - “Drop by drop, drop by drop and the ocean. Drop by drop, drop by drop - turn off the tap. " This is very relevant today. Responsible attitude, and within a month the amount to be paid in the receipt will be less. And of course, if you are planning to spend the weekend away from home, do not forget to turn off the taps in case of an emergency so as not to flood your neighbors. Reassurance in this matter will never hurt.

All of the above methods will help everyone save their water bills, while not resorting to illegal methods.

Serviceable plumbing will help save water

Illegal way to save water

Having considered the legal ways to save money, we can come to the conclusion that the amount of payment for water will not change much. In such cases, you have to resort to using illegal ways of saving, namely:

  1. Save money with aerators. Aerator - special attachments for mixers that help to save enough water. Also, as noted by customers, the use of aerators is mostly a myth that it can save water.
  2. The use of a magnet is the main and, in fact, the only illegal way, which entails a huge fine. For the most part, using a magnet in a meter results in huge water savings. But using a magnet will get you in big trouble.
  3. Various appliances. At the moment, there are a huge number of different devices that, as their creators assure, do an excellent job of saving water. The use of such devices can lead to various consequences with your meter and a further fine, therefore, using them is highly discouraged.
By installing an aerator, you will significantly reduce water consumption

We've covered the main ways to save water. The best option is to use legal ways to save water.

Remember, the system cannot be fooled. Organizations have long had a computerized accounting program. There, subscribers are marked in red, whose water consumption suddenly became much less than it was before. Not only statistics are taken into account, but also the number of people registered in the apartment. This means that the check will not be long in coming. By manipulating the magnet, you make respectable citizens pay for yourself. Be prudent and learn to conserve water legally.

Let replacing faucets, installing a dishwasher, or replacing an old washing machine with a new one can save you a little less water than using a magnet or various appliances, which are more troublesome than positives. However, the choice is only yours!

One day, each of us begins to wonder how to save water. After all, this is not only about reducing the payment of bills, but also about saving stocks on the planet. There are many tips and tricks for reducing water consumption, they are quite simple and trivial, and with the help of them you can save a lot without sacrificing yourself.

1. Do not leave the tap turned on while brushing teeth, shaving, washing hands, dishes and other activities.
2. Begin to draw cold water that flows out of the taps, while you are waiting for it to warm up. In the future, it can be used to fill the tank or water the plants.
3. Carefully inspect and check for leaks in the plumbing system, in particular for toilet barrels and faucets. If problems were found, they must be eliminated.

Water saving taps

For small consumption, you can install water-saving taps, there are three types of them:
1. The mixer with aerator, when turned on, adds small bubbles to the water. This in turn reduces droplet splashing. The efficiency of pressure and washing is fully preserved, and the amount of resources used is reduced by 20%.
2. has a specialized blocker that will not allow water to flow out until the stream is heated to the required temperature. Thanks to this device, you can save several liters at a time.
3. The sensor mixer is quite expensive, but its efficiency is 50-70% higher than that of its predecessors. The principle of operation of this device is that when hands or dishes are brought under the tap, it starts to work.
For those who are thinking about how to save water in an apartment, the presence of a modern mixer is just a necessary solution.

Economical crane nozzle

Everyone knows that today you need to save water, for this, manufacturers have come up with a limiting nozzle. It is designed in such a way that the flow flows between the O-ring and the sprocket.

If there is no pressure, then the O-ring relaxes, and if the tap is opened, the pressure increases and it flattens, thereby closing the sprocket and reducing the space for the passage of water. After the pressure decreases, a place for flow begins to open.

The nozzle has a standard size and can be used with any type of mixer. It will not change the look of the crane, it is very easy to install. Such a device will help to reduce several times and will save 40-50%. It will also establish a constant head despite the fact that the pressure changes regularly.

Why you need to install a water meter

Everyone wants to pay less for utilities, but not everyone knows how to save water on the meter and whether it is justified saving. Thanks to the use of a water meter, it will be necessary to pay only for actual consumption, and not calculated norms by the state.

After the individual meter is installed, you do not have to worry about the fact that you need to pay for the loss of water in case of extraneous accidents, leaks from poorly working neighbors' taps or indoor pipes.

After installing the water meter, you can think about how to save water on the meter in order to pay less. As seen in practice, only 74% is useful water consumption, and the remaining 26% are losses. The most effective method of dealing with them is accounting, which is submitted by the consumer personally. As numerous studies show, after installing meters, a decrease in consumption can be observed.

How to save water using technical devices

I would like to ask the question of how you can save water in order to partially save the family budget. For this, there are technical devices that it is desirable to have on hand.
1. In the kitchen, install a sink that has two trays. Thanks to this, you can significantly reduce water consumption by washing the dishes in one, and rinsing them in the second with soapy water.
2. Single-lever mixers are best. In these taps, the process of mixing hot and cold water takes place much faster.
3. For a shower, you need to purchase a small perforated watering can and hang it slightly lower than usual.
4. If there are plans to purchase a washing machine or dishwasher, then it is advisable to choose only products with a water consumption class AA.
Initially, it may seem that these methods will only increase costs, but they will actually help to save well.

How to save money in the bathroom

The bathroom is one of those areas where water is used the most, so it is important to know how to save water here.
- You do not need to keep the tap constantly open while washing your hands, shaving and brushing your teeth.

- Get a shower that has a low resource consumption.
- Pre-soak clothes before washing, this will save you hassle after washing.
- Soak the dishes before washing, this will result in a much lower consumption.
- Use the water-saving mode on the dishwasher.

Using economical shower heads

If a 5-liter saucepan can be filled in 25 seconds, be sure to install a nozzle with minimal holes, which retains up to 50% of the water. Another option, how to save money and also cold, is a shower head, in which an aerator is built in, it fills the stream with air bubbles. Thanks to such a device, you can reduce water consumption by about three times without losing the quality of the jet. So the cost for a 5-minute shower will not be 100 liters, but only 30. Use such gadgets in your apartment - and questions about how to save water will disappear.

What to do to pay less for water

There is an opinion that those who know how to save water on the meter will pay less. Many residents of houses and apartments are convinced that the meter, of course, helps, but cannot solve all problems. Water costs are primarily dependent on the human culture of consumption, as well as the availability of a careful and careful attitude to water among residents.

Many people turn on the faucet half or full just to wash their hands, although only a small trickle is enough for this. Now look at your receipts - and there you can see that the water resource is one of the most expensive items of all expenses. How do you fix this?

In order to understand how you can save water, first observe your relatives. According to this principle, it is quite easy to choose your own program for the rational use, including financial resources.

Pay close attention to the correct operation of the plumbing - this is the main source of water loss. You can check this thanks to the indicators that are on the meter, if they move, then there is a leak somewhere. Modern taps, which have metal-ceramic parts inside instead of elastic gaskets, will forever allow you to forget about dripping from them.

You do not need to turn on the mixer 100%, very often a little ajar is enough. Close the taps firmly enough and be sure to teach this to your household.

Install straighteners, aeration nozzles and perlators at home. With their use, you can significantly reduce your water consumption. These rules make it easy to get a good savings. But the main factor in answering the question of how to save water is considered to be changing personal habits.

In everyday life, there are tips on how to save water in an apartment, which will significantly reduce costs.
1. Be sure to consult and find out if compensation is provided for the installed devices located in the apartment or house. In some regions, this is encouraged by the state. There are areas that rewarded buyers with discounts for buying dual-flush toilets, and suppliers sold cheaper or even donated aerators for faucets and shower heads that have little flow.
2. If the area in which you live is marked by a small amount of water, then be sure to check the rational consumption and restrictions.
3. Talk to your family members and try to get their support in saving.
4. The water that remains after washing can be used to wash the car, and the water that is obtained after washing fruits and vegetables can later be useful for gardening.
5. Be sure to properly dispose of hazardous materials such as cleaning agents, batteries, fertilizers, pesticides, and engine oils. All these benefits, of course, do not affect water conservation, but they are very important for the safety and purity of operating sources.
Take care of nature and prevent its destruction, save water. Pictures that sometimes occur can turn a person's consciousness. Be on the lookout for the precious resources of our planet.

Water occupies 70% of the earth's surface, but only 1% of water is readily available for consumption. Considering that water is an extremely important resource for life on Earth, reducing the water footprint on its consumption is a responsible step for any person. Saving water is not difficult at all, but you need to start such savings from your own home. There are a number of strategies to help you conserve water when doing laundry, dishwashing, brushing your teeth, watering plants, and more.

Steps

Saving water in the bathroom

Check taps, toilets and pipes for leaks. Hidden water leaks in a home can be more than ten cubic meters per year. For this reason, be sure to check your plumbing system for leaks, especially leaking toilets and faucets.

Remember to turn off the water when brushing your teeth or shaving. Don't just let the water flow while you brush your teeth, turn it off when you don't need it. When shaving, turn off the water between rinsing the shaver.

    • If you shave in the shower, try to turn off the shower while shaving instead of leaving the water running.
  1. Install water-saving shower heads. Many showerheads use up to 10 liters of water per minute, and some use up to 20. Install water-saving showerheads that will work with the same pressure, creating the same sensations as regular showerheads, but at the same time will use two times less water.

    • Depending on the quality, economical shower heads can cost from several hundred to several thousand rubles.
    • You can also install a separate faucet on the shower head, which will allow you to temporarily turn off the water while you are soaping, and turn it back on with the same temperature setting.
  2. Install aerators on faucets. The presence of an aerator on the mixers allows you to enrich the water with oxygen, create a more stable flow and consume less water in general. Installing the aerator is quite simple - you just need to screw it onto the tap; and it costs, on average, from several tens of rubles to a couple of hundred.

Learn to shower faster. Take a clock or timer with you to the bathroom and try to shorten your usual shower time, or play one melody and strive to complete all procedures by its end. Shortening your shower time by even just 2 minutes can save you up to 40 liters of water.

Install an economical cistern or a cistern with two flushing modes in the toilet. Economical tanks consume no more than 6 liters of water per drain, while ordinary tanks can consume three or even four times more than this. Toilet cisterns with two drainage modes use less water for liquid excrement and more for solid excrement (by pressing the corresponding buttons).

    • You can also purchase the water-saving double-flush flush mechanism separately to add a double button to your cistern. Look for these items at your local plumbing store or online retailer. They work well and still save money.
    • Be aware that not all toilets are efficiently cleaned with a small amount of flush water, so test this question first in a practical way. If the reduced volume of water does not flush normally, then your toilet needs more water.
  3. Do not use the toilet as a trash can. Flushing debris into the toilet can not only lead to clogging of the sewage system and increase the pollution of water drains, but also creates an additional waste of water for flushing. Using a trash can to throw away paper napkins, expired medications, and any other small waste can help you avoid unnecessary waste.

Hang washed clothes on a tumble dryer. It is likely that it will not be possible to do this with all your clothes, but try to hang as many dresses, shirts, trousers and so on for natural drying. The use of electric dryers leads to a large consumption of electricity, for the production of which, among other things, water is consumed.

Wash less. Many items of clothing, such as jeans and sweaters, do not need to be washed daily. Try to be aware of which things are really dirty and which ones you can wear again. This will not only save water, but also reduce wear and tear on your clothes!

    • Nightwear pajamas can be worn two or three times before going to the wash, especially if you always shower before bed.
    • Change socks and underwear daily, but pants, jeans, skirts, and other clothing can be worn more than once before washing.
    • When wearing a sweater or sweatshirt over a shirt, only the shirt will need to be washed regularly.
    • Hang towels to dry on a heated towel rail after use and reuse them several times before washing.

Saving water in the kitchen

  1. Load the dishwasher completely. Similar to a washing machine, you need to ensure that the dishwasher is fully loaded before starting to avoid wasting water.

    • If you do not have a dishwasher, try to wash the dishes in a sink or saucepan filled with water, rather than leaving the water on for the entire time you wash the dishes.
    • Dispose of large food debris from plates in the trash or compost pit. If the dishes cannot be washed in the dishwasher without rinsing first, make sure you load the appliance correctly, that the machine is in good condition, and that you are using an effective dishwasher detergent.
  2. Use a food waste disposer less often if it is installed in the sink. The food waste disposer takes a lot of water to wash away the shredded debris, so try not to use it too often. Either simply pick up food leftovers from the sink and throw them in the trash, or even have a compost bin in your yard instead of flushing food waste down the drain through a shredder.

Defrost frozen food in the fridge compartment of the refrigerator. Although immersion of frozen food in water can speed up defrosting, it will unnecessarily increase water consumption. Try to plan ahead and transfer the required frozen food to defrost overnight in the refrigerator compartment.

Wash food in a sink or pot filled with water. Whenever you need to wash fruits, vegetables, and other foods, try to do it in a sink full of water, or a saucepan, instead of using running water. This way you will spend less water, and the water itself can be used to water the plants.

Keep a jug of drinking water in the refrigerator. Instead of draining your tap water for a long time to make it cool enough to drink, fill a jug or bottle with water and refrigerate. So you do not have to drain the water and wait for the cold one to go, this will also save a valuable resource.

Saving water in your yard

Install a water meter. It may surprise you how much water actually goes into watering your garden plot. By installing a meter, you will ensure that you are fully aware of your spending and will be able to take steps to reduce your water consumption.

    • If you already have a meter, learn how to use its readings. Counters can be very helpful in detecting hidden leaks. Don't use water for an hour or two and take a second look at the meter reading. If they have changed, it means that there is a leak somewhere.
  1. Use a deliberate approach to watering your garden and the plants in it. Water can also be saved when watering lawns and plants without compromising their health. Water only when you really need it (in the absence of rain for a long time), and on those plots of land that need it.

    • It is best for watering in the morning or evening hours, when the water does not evaporate quickly. Watering should not be done in cool, rainy and windy weather.
    • Water your garden with a watering can or use a diffusing hose nozzle to avoid wasting water.
    • You can also set up a rainwater harvesting system to keep track of rainfall and use the collected water to irrigate lawns, vegetable gardens and gardens. Before installing a rainwater collection system, make sure that you do not violate any local environmental regulations.
    • Water the plants better, but less frequently. This will stimulate the development of a deeper root system in plants, which will reduce their need for frequent watering.
  2. Set timers on the autowatering system. Install timers on street water taps and sprinklers of the auto-irrigation system. Look for inexpensive automatic timers that fit between the hose and the sprinkler nipple, or install a programmable timer on a sprinkler or drip system. The automatic timer will also help you organize watering at exactly the time of day when water is best absorbed into the soil.

    • If you turn on watering manually, use the kitchen timer to shut off the water supply in time, or keep an eye on the watering process all the time.
    • Find out how to best set the watering timer for different seasons. In damp and cool weather, you need to water the plants less often or not at all.
    • Do not overmoisten the soil or water it faster than it can absorb water. If water runs off the lawn onto the sidewalk, shorten the watering time or divide it into two shorter runs so the water has enough time to soak into the soil.
  3. Monitor the condition of the sprinklers and the irrigation system as a whole. If using timers, be sure to check them periodically. Repair broken sprinklers and burst pipes, and keep the spray area where it is supposed to.

    • Consider setting up a drip system or the like to save even more water.
    • If necessary, adjust your sprinklers to cover only areas that need water, not sidewalks and driveways.
  4. Don't cut your lawns too short. From a water conservation point of view, tall grass is better than short grass. The grass is able to grow longer roots when it is longer itself, which allows it to be watered less frequently. Raise the mower blades higher to avoid cutting the grass too short.

    • If you live in an area with irregular rainfall, try not planting grass on your lawns, but planting local ornamental plants that do not require much maintenance or watering.
  5. Cover the outdoor pool with a protective cover. If you have an outdoor pool, using a protective cover at night will help prevent excess evaporation of water during the hot months. In some regions of some countries, the emptying of pools and filling them with new water is strictly limited or even banned, so that the conservation of water in the basin is critical.
