Mosquito net on the window - do-it-yourself installation and manufacture: different types and cases. How to make a mosquito net on a plastic window with your own hands How to properly roll up mosquito nets

The need to protect housing from mosquitoes to varying degrees is present in all regions of Russia. This is especially true in the spring, when the need for heating has already disappeared, and it is too early to turn on the air conditioners, and the window sashes are in the open position for most of the day.

The most effective and safe mosquito protection for residents is mechanical, that is, equipping window and, if necessary, doorways with devices with mesh canvases that prevent insects from entering the house from the street.

These devices are produced in various types, differing in design, functionality and, accordingly, in price.

Mesh-fitted window openings

Considering the simplicity of the technical execution of budget-class protective devices, we will consider how to make a mosquito net on our own.

In addition to the function of a barrier on the path of insects from the street to the home, these protective devices must catch debris and, in part, dust. To effectively cope with these tasks, mechanical mosquito control devices, commonly referred to as mosquito nets, must have the following characteristics:

  • the functionality of the mesh canvas - providing a barrier for insects and debris while maintaining sufficient light and air permeability, partial trapping of dust (especially important for lower floors);
  • environmental friendliness - the absence of harmful emissions into the environment;
  • sufficient strength and resistance to weather conditions - wind, humidity, high temperature, ultraviolet rays;
  • operational safety;
  • ease of daily care;
  • aesthetics.

In some cases, this list can be supplemented with other properties, such as compactness, increased strength ("anti-cat", anti-penetration), etc.

Manufacturing of the simplest protective devices

One of the two main components of mosquito protection (in case of a casement design) is the frame, which determines the geometry, dimensions and rigidity of the structure. The strength and durability of the protective device depends on the quality of the frame profile.

The second, no less important component of mosquito protection is a fine-mesh mesh cloth, from which the selection of materials begins, regardless of who makes the device - the owner of the house or an outside contractor.

Choosing a mesh canvas

Of the improvised means with similar characteristics, you can name gauze fabric, gauze, old tulle curtains, fiberglass mesh (painting reinforcement) or fine-mesh construction made of steel wire.

Fine mesh fiberglass and steel woven mesh

The most environmentally friendly, but least durable of the materials listed is gauze (a fine-mesh fabric made of cotton threads), which quickly gets dirty and stretches, has a low degree of transparency, decomposes under the influence of bacteria and easily tears under accidental stress. Gauze for equipping window openings can be used only as a temporary means of protection against mosquitoes somewhere in the summer kitchen or country house.

Mosquito protection: tulle on the left, gauze on the right.

The rest of the materials at hand also have individual disadvantages, but are more suitable for a mosquito repellent device. Construction fine-mesh steel mesh (woven) made of thin wire with an anti-corrosion coating has also proven itself well.

Mesh fabrics, produced specifically for mosquito repellency, are made from fiberglass, polyester (nylon), polyester, nylon and steel thread.

The optimal choice of these materials is fiberglass - a lightweight fiberglass mesh covered with polyvinyl chloride (PVC), durable and non-combustible, with a high degree of transparency and resistance to all atmospheric factors.

Mosquito-proof canvases: fiberglass on the left, polyester on the right.

In second place in popularity after fiberglass is polyester - a strong, durable, but widely affordable material.

The mesh size of the produced mosquito net is in the range from 0.5 to 1.2 mm, and when choosing a mesh fabric, preference should be given to the material of the middle part of this range - 0.6-1.0 mm. There is also a canvas of the "anti-dust" class - a mesh cloth of a special weaving with rectangular cells 0.25 mm wide, catching the smallest particles suspended in the air, and therefore requiring regular washing.

Installation of frameless protection

Not all mosquito nets without a frame are structurally simple and easy to do-it-yourself. For example, in domestic conditions it is difficult to manufacture roller shutter (roll) devices or "pleated mesh" of the required level of aesthetics and reliability, therefore, protective accessories of such structures are produced in an industrial environment.

But anyone can equip a window block with a mesh on the simplest fasteners, and this design of a mosquito device is no less effective than any other device.

Mosquito net with adhesive mounting tape

For such a protective structure, a flexible mesh fabric and accessories for fixing - burdock tape fasteners are needed.

Important! When making mosquito protection on a Velcro tape, it is better not to use a metal mesh - in the working position such a canvas is not aesthetically pleasing because of the inevitable irregularities in the plane of the canvas, and its prickly edges must be processed after cutting.

Materials for such a device can be purchased in a set, by choosing a package with the desired size and color of the canvas, or purchased separately by measuring the window opening with a tape measure.

Frameless mosquito protection: on the left - a set, on the right - retail.

If the sashes of the window unit open outward, then the mesh will be located on the inner surface of the binding. And vice versa - with an inward opening window, the protection is attached from the outside.

Remove the protective polyethylene tape and glue residues from the window block. Departing from the inner edge of the box of the window block 5-15 mm outward, along the perimeter of the profile with a simple pencil using a ruler, draw a line - the inner border of the mounting burdock tape. Degrease the surface along the line to the width of the Velcro.

Burdock tape is produced with self-adhesive, including hot-melt, back surface and without it. Therefore, the Velcro is glued around the perimeter of the window block box, depending on the type of execution - in accordance with the instructions for use.

Important! A hard strip of self-adhesive tape is attached to the window unit, and the soft half to the mesh.

Stages of installing frameless mosquito protection

In ready-made sets, a soft half of the adhesive tape is often already sewn around the perimeter of the mesh canvas, and to install the protection, you only need to install the hard side of the Velcro on the window block. If there is no standard fastening, then it is done independently - the tape is first glued to the mesh, tucking the edge of the canvas inward so that the edges do not split, and then stitched with a thread.

Regular finishing of the edge of the mesh canvas with mounting tape

It should be remembered that the frameless mosquito device is convenient to use when it is installed inside. The installation of such a mesh outside is permissible only on the lower floors accessible for maintenance from a portable staircase, or on window blocks, divided into several openings by vertical uprights from a profile, with several movable sashes.

Indoor and outdoor flexible protection

A DIY mosquito net can be installed even easier, even without mounting tape. The perimeter of the opening in the box of the window block is measured by the sealing rubber between it and the sash, and with a margin of 10% to this value, a twisted nylon cord with a diameter of 4 mm is purchased. A mesh canvas 5 cm larger than the opening in each direction is also selected and purchased.

The sealing gum is pry on with a narrow-blade screwdriver and is removed from the seat slot.

Starting from the middle of the upper side, the edge of the mesh is placed overlapping on the groove, on top of which the middle of the cord length is laid. The rope over the net in both directions (to the right and to the left) is pressed all the way into the groove, wedging and fixing the canvas in it. The installation of the mesh is carried out in an interference fit so that there is no slack on the canvas. The two ends of the cord should meet in the middle of the bottom side of the opening, where they join in the groove under a drop of PVA glue.

Installing the mosquito net in the gum groove

The excess of the web in the form of a strip along the cord is cut off with scissors flush with the edge of the groove.

Manufacturing and installation of mosquito frame shutters from scrap materials

Self-assembly of a protective mesh sash from a standard profile (plastic or aluminum) does not promise sensitive savings, since the components will still have to be bought in the store. At the same time, it is highly likely that the quality of a self-assembled device will be lower than that of a device made by a professional.

But making a frame of good quality from cheap fittings intended for other purposes will interest many.

With your own hands assemble a decent wireframe a mosquito net on a plastic window can be made of plastic channels for cable routing - materials of various sizes, colors and low prices.

Samples of execution of plastic cable channels

Important! The walls of the cable ducts are thinner than that of the standard sash profile, therefore, plunger clamps should not be attached to them - it is better to use homemade Z-brackets or corner stops made of sheet steel 0.5-0.8 mm thick.

List of required materials and tools:

  • plastic cable duct 15x10 mm or 20x10 mm with a double lock in an amount equal to the perimeter of the skylight plus 10%;
  • 4 connecting squares for external joining of frame elements;

Cable duct with connecting angle

  • reinforcing corner plates made of steel, duralumin or durable plastic - to ensure the rigidity of the sash in the corners;
  • mesh canvas with a cell side of 0.6 -1.0 mm;

Reinforcement pads and mesh fabric

  • pull-out rivets with a diameter of 3-5 mm with a key;
  • drill with a drill for rivets;

Rivet with rivets

  • hacksaw for metal;
  • miter box.

Hacksaw with blade for metal and miter box

Having removed the dimensions from the opening in the window block, cut the blanks from the channels with the lids, cutting their joints with a hacksaw at an angle of 45 0 - using a miter box. Having removed the covers from the cut elements, they are joined on a flat surface, reinforcing linings are placed inside and holes for rivets are marked. After drilling along the marks, the linings are attached to the channels with rivets - the caps outward.

Cutting the ends of cable channels and their layout on a plane

To make the structure more rigid, it is better to choose the overlays according to the width of the channel base. If this fittings were not found ready for sale, you can make it yourself - cut it with a grinder from sheet steel with a thickness of 0.5-0.8 mm.

Head-mounted outward-facing reinforcing pads - commercially made and homemade

The finished frame without top covers is laid on a flat surface and covered with a net. This operation is best performed by three people - two hold the canvas in tightness, and the third installs the top covers on the frame by pressing on them until the locking profiles click.

The finished anti-mosquito sash is applied to the window block at the installation site and its outline is drawn with a pencil. Then Z-brackets or corner stops are independently made from thin sheet steel. The second option is preferable, since it excludes the accidental shift of the sash to the side.

Sketch of the location of corner stops on the box of the window block

When the sash is mounted externally from a cable channel, its durability depends on the quality of the polymer. Cheap channels from exposure to ultraviolet radiation and high temperatures are prone to cracking in 2-3 years.

Conclusion

With your own hands faithfully manufactured mosquito In terms of performing the main function of creating a barrier for insects, the mesh for plastic windows is not inferior to devices of industrial production. As for the aesthetics of the adaptation, this criterion depends on the skill of the performer. If sufficiently high requirements are imposed on the decorative design of the protection, then it is better to purchase an accessory of industrial production. For country houses, self-assembled devices will be quite appropriate.

The main point of the article

  1. Mechanical mosquito devices are the safest way for humans to protect housing from insects.
  2. Of the commercially available such protective devices, many devices are technically simple and suitable for independent manufacture.
  3. It is possible to temporarily solve the problem of mosquito protection even without any expenses - from used auxiliary materials.
  4. The relevance of using homemade mosquito protection depends on the requirements for the aesthetics of housing, since the effectiveness of such devices is quite high.

With the onset of warmth, everything in the world comes to life. It would seem that romance, feelings, spring, summer, relaxation ... But in all this there is a reverse, dark and very unpleasant annoying side. Yes, insects wake up with the onset of warmth. This is a separate part of the memories of the long-awaited summer.

Is there a way to avoid meeting insects

Mosquitoes, flies, midges terrorize people every day. You can't hide from them under the covers - it's hot. You can't run away from them. Scare away? Bad option. All fumigators, tablets and canned medicines are ineffective.

The only and correct choice is strong protection. Mosquito nets installed on all open areas (windows, doors, vents) will help repel the attack of unnecessary midges. But then the question arises of how to make this barrier.

Varieties

Nowadays, mosquito nets are becoming more and more common. Now you can find green or blue bars in almost every window. The material itself, from which this barrier is made, differs in structure and quality. For example, there are soft type meshes, there are hard ones. Some have a larger cell size, while others have a smaller one. All these parameters affect the quality of protection, throughput, durability of the mesh, etc. Also, the barriers differ according to the place of use. There is a mosquito net on the window. It, as the name implies, can be installed on balcony frames and in the windows themselves. There is a mosquito net on the door.

This "heavy artillery" is used most often in country ladies. Where doorways are open all day. No less significant differentiation occurs by the type of attachment. By default, these are hooks for which a frame with a net is attached, but there are more interesting examples. Recently, a mosquito net with magnets has appeared on the market. Very easy to use. There are also Velcro nets. The principle is almost the same, only the materials are different.

Any mosquito net performs its direct function - protection from insects. The rest of the additions are provided only to simplify operation.

Why pay when you can do it yourself

Yes, it's nice if the house has a mosquito net. You can do anything with your own hands, but when it comes to making such things, you need to ask yourself: "Can you do it?" Here you need to think carefully about everything. A do-it-yourself mosquito net is quite simple to do. Buying this design is not always profitable. First of all, it's a fact to make yourself cheaper.

Secondly, sometimes commercial options will not fit the very place of destination: a window or a door. The mosquito net frame is not always suitable for old Soviet openings. Or new, but non-standard sizes. Be that as it may, a mosquito net, which is not so difficult to make with your own hands, is in some cases more practical than a purchased one. The choice is made, let's get started.

Do-it-yourself mosquito net (option one)

First you need to decide on the type of construction. Again, there are many types of mesh barriers. Which one to choose? To get started, you need to decide on the object.

In this case, let there be a window. If it is old, wooden, then you cannot cook a lot of porridge with it. Due to dilapidation, the "upgrade" of the window runs the risk of ending in failure. The frame can crack, and then the whole business will come to an end. Therefore, it is necessary to attach a mosquito net carefully and according to a certain technique. This is done in two stages. The first is work on the blank. The second is installation.

First stage

You need to start by building the mesh. You need a little material for it. Actually, the roll of the mosquito net itself, wooden twines (preferably square), buttons and small nails. The matter is simple and uncomplicated. First step. You need to measure the window frame.

You need to subtract one and a half centimeters from the data received. He will go to various shenanigans. The second step is to prepare the frame for the mesh. Wooden twines should be sawn to fit the window and fastened together with nails. We attach a mosquito net to this base (using the buttons). It is better to bend the edges of a kind of barrier. So the view will be transformed, the product will become neat, the mesh will not diverge.

Stage two

Here you have to tinker with the windows themselves. How will the frame be attached? There are two hooks at the top and bottom for the base to go through. You can attach them with glue. Since any rough intervention in a wooden window can lead to depressurization. And this is drafts, and a frame swollen from water. Why is this needed? It is important to install the above hooks so that they do not interfere with the closing / opening of the window. And now the mosquito net on the window is ready, it remains to connect the two parts together.

"Heavy artillery"

The windows, of course, should be protected first, but do not forget about the other passages. A mosquito net on the door will help, especially on very hot days, to keep the passage open. So a light breeze will get into the apartment, but unnecessary insects will not. How can this plan be implemented? The mesh on the door can be equipped in the same way as the window. That is, build a wooden frame, pull a mosquito barrier over it and fix it at the bases.

Sounds simple. But not everything is so good. The dimensions of the doorway are much larger than the dimensions of a small window. This is worth remembering. Because of this, the construction itself will be difficult (the frame is huge, therefore, in one place, then in another, the mesh will sag, and this is already a reason for insects to crawl into the gap formed). Which exit? The location of the door offers many options. One of them is the most profitable. The mosquito net in the doorway will not be static. Like this? Leave the insect barrier taut.

Progress

As always, you first need to measure the future surface, add one and a half centimeters to the results obtained. The idea is simple. It is worth making holes in the mesh and placing special rings on them (you can buy these at any craft store). They slam themselves shut. These rings will keep the mesh from creeping at the seams, which is what you need. As for the fasteners, they can serve as the most common nails. Small size is desirable. The scheme is as follows. A ring will pass every ten centimeters. A nail must match it. This should be done efficiently and slowly. Otherwise, curvature cannot be avoided.

Alternative options

Installing mosquito nets takes a lot of time and effort. Therefore, not everyone can afford this pleasure. But there are new options that can make the process easier. The magnet net is a great alternative to the classic frames. Such a grid is not afraid of either wind or rain. It will not come off. Only a person can remove it. How does it work? There are two bases here. The first is an iron edging. The second is the magnets themselves. It is impossible to make this option on your own: there are no necessary materials. But you are always welcome to try to install it. The iron frame is attached to the window frame with small screws. This is perhaps the whole hassle. The rest is due to the forces of gravity. Small magnets are sewn into the mosquito net. If you attach them to the frame, they will be tightly attracted. A couple of hand movements so that everything is tightly pressed against each other, and the installation is complete. At the right time, this barrier can be removed.

Any mosquito net will protect your home from annoying insects. One has only to try a little.

In this Article: Using a Mosquito Net types of mosquito nets for windows; how to make a mosquito net with Velcro fastening on your own; do-it-yourself frame mosquito net; how to choose a mosquito net; durable window mesh "anti-cat"; care for the mosquito net.

With the onset of warm spring days, our homes are receiving increased attention from the army of insects, who certainly want to explore new territories. And everything would be fine if these insects did not interfere with us annoyingly sleeping in the morning with open ones, like flies, and did not try to use our bodies as blood donors, which is typical of mosquitoes and midges. You can, of course, count on all kinds of fumigators and other chemical means to combat flying aggressors, but the most reliable means of protection will only be a mosquito net on the windows.

Purpose of a mosquito net

The mesh with small cells, covering the window openings or suspended above the bed, was used by the most ancient civilizations of our planet thousands of years ago - it is known that the last queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, slept under a canopy of fine mesh.

The mosquito net has become a part of our civilization and received its stable name not so long ago - in the 18th century. Using such a grid correctly, i.e. By completely cutting off the external atmosphere from the airspace inside the rooms, households are completely protected from the visit of mosquitoes, flies and other insects that act as carriers of various diseases.

Mosquito nets (mosquito nets) are made from polyethylene, cotton, nylon, fiberglass or polyester. To prevent mosquitoes and flies from entering living quarters, the size of the mesh in the mosquito net should be no more than 1.2 mm, its smaller size - 0.6 mm - will stop smaller insects, for example, midges. An absolute barrier for any insects will be a mosquito net impregnated with insecticides that are safe for humans and pets, which include drugs from the pyrethroid group - permethrin or deltamerin. Such insecticides not only prevent insects from entering the living space, they kill them - the effectiveness of a mosquito net treated with insecticides is twice as high as that of an untreated one, while the material of the mesh should be impregnated with these preparations only twice a year.

The mosquito net is an insurmountable barrier for insects, however, overlapping window and door openings with it reduces the amount of fresh air entering through them - sleeping in rooms where windows and doors are taken away with a mosquito net will be hot, because despite the presence of cells, the mesh still reduces air access and that is why you should not use gauze to protect against insects.

In addition to its main task of creating an obstacle for insects, a mosquito net is able to block or seriously reduce the penetration of dust, pollen and fluff into a room, which creates a more comfortable atmosphere for households prone to allergies.

Types of window mosquito nets

The mosquito nets offered by the manufacturers of window constructions are subdivided into those fixed with fastening (adhesive) tape, frame, sliding, roll and pleated nets. Consider the design and characteristics of each of them.

It is easiest for households to install a mosquito net on a tenacious Velcro tape - it is fixed inside the window opening, does not interfere with closing and opening the window sashes. The mesh, fixed on a tape with hooks, is easy to remove and install back, it is easy to clean, and the absence of a rigid frame allows you to install such mosquito protection inside a window opening of any shape and size. The service life of such an anti-mosquito barrier will be more than two years, subject to careful handling, in addition, there is no need to look for a place to store the mosquito net removed from the window during the cold season - it easily takes a compact form.

Mosquito nets on a removable frame made of aluminum or plastic profiles are quite common. It's all about the simplicity of their installation, allowing installation not only on plastic or aluminum frames, but also on wooden ones, and without any serious damage to the window structure. The most convenient frame for a mosquito net will be made of aluminum, since this metal is much stronger than plastic and is lightweight. Frame mosquito nets can be external (external) and installed inside the window opening. The frame of the outer mesh is usually attached to special corners, which make it easy to install and remove. The corners for attaching the mosquito net frame must be installed before the actual installation of the window frame, as it will not be easy to install them after this operation. When attaching the corners, it is important not to be mistaken with the place of their installation, otherwise they will fall under the window quarter - a part of the window frame inserted into the grooves in the window opening - and it will not work to expose the window frame. A mosquito net in a frame, placed inside the window opening, can be installed regardless of the time of installation of the window frame - it is wound inside the skylight and attached with short metal hooks to the window profile along its inner perimeter. Unlike external mosquito nets, especially if one of the window sashes is blind, the nets installed inside the window opening in the frames can be easily dismantled. The average cost of a frame mosquito net is 800 rubles. per m 2.

Sliding mosquito nets can only be installed on aluminum window frames with sliding sashes, they can repeat all the positions into which the window sashes are translated. The principle by which sliding mosquito nets work is completely similar to the doors of wardrobes - they can be freely moved in the left-right direction, along the perimeter of the frame of such nets are equipped with a sealing nap that tightly covers any cracks through which insects can penetrate into the room. For the free movement of sliding mosquito nets horizontally, an aluminum profile is used, rollers (skates) are attached to the frame of the mosquito nets to facilitate their displacement. The main convenience of sliding mosquito nets is associated with the ability to overlap those sections of the window frame that are used for ventilation at the moment. However, if the aluminum frame has more than two sliding doors, then it is possible to completely block the opening from insects only on the inner doors - when trying to close the opening of the outer sliding doors, even if they are of the same width, it will not be possible to avoid 200-300 mm slots on the sides. Sliding mosquito nets cost an average of 1,500 rubles. per m 2.

Rolled or roller-blind mosquito nets are installed on window openings either from the outside or from the inside (most often on skylights). When there is no need to set up a barrier against insects, the entire plane of the mesh is folded into a cassette installed in the upper part of the window frame, which allows maintaining the strength characteristics of the mosquito net and significantly reducing its wear. Installation of rolled nets is carried out before installing the window frame in the opening, while taking into account the introduction of a part of the frame into a quarter of the window opening. Important points during the operation of a rolled mosquito net: the possibility of solid debris penetrating inside the roll when it is rolled up, which will cause damage to the net; a sharp descent of the mesh when folding is not allowed - it is necessary to hold the canvas with your hand until it is completely folded; the mesh lifting and lowering mechanism must be cleaned at least once every 2 years; in winter, roll mesh cannot be used, because penetration of moisture into the mechanism will cause damage (however, it is not necessary in winter anyway). The main advantage of rolled mosquito nets is that they do not need to be removed from windows during the cold season. The average cost of rolling mosquito nets is 4000 rubles. per m 2.

Pleated mosquito nets are similar to roll nets - the only difference is that they do not need a folding mechanism. The design of the pleated mesh is similar to an accordion - folds, as a rule, having a width of 10 mm, allow closing window openings of any height and shape. In order to fold or install the pleated mesh in the window opening, you just need to loosen or tighten the cord. Their average cost is 5,000 rubles. per m 2.

Important: keep in mind that an ordinary mosquito net is not able to support the weight of a small child who stands on the window sill and rests on its canvas - they will not stand the fastening. Do not allow the child to climb onto the windowsill on their own, firmly lock the windows during your absence, even a short one!

DIY mosquito net

The easiest way is to make a mesh insect protection from a fine mesh and a chain Velcro tape, thereby ensuring reliable protection of the premises during several warm seasons. You must visit a hardware store and purchase a mosquito net with a mesh of 1.2 mm, glue for gluing mosaic or cork, sticky tape, consisting of two parts, one of which contains many small hooks, the other is a thin fluffy pile. The cost of the Velcro fastening tape will be about 130 rubles. for 5.5 m, a special mosquito net will cost 120 rubles. for 1.5 m 2, the average cost of glue is 100 rubles.

We open the window sash and prepare a place for placing the fastening tape - we clean it from dirt and degrease the inner perimeter of the window opening using a soapy cloth, then clean water and a piece of clean gauze. To clean the aluminum frame, you can use any solvent, alcohol or gasoline, but plastic frames should only be washed with soapy water. Then, having separated half of the tape with small teeth-hooks from the fleecy part, we apply it to the installation site and check if it interferes with the closing of the sash - the main thing is that its edge does not fall between the end part of the sash (looped side) and the frame. Apply a thin layer of glue to the reverse side of the toothed half of the tape, apply it to the installation site. You can do the opposite and apply glue to the perimeter of the window opening in those areas where the fastening tape will be glued - in this case, you do not have to mark and cut it in advance, you can cut it as it is glued.

While the newly pasted tape with hooks is drying, we begin to mark and prepare the mosquito net. Having measured the dimensions obtained during gluing and transferring them to the mesh, we cut it off with a margin equal to the width of the fastening tape. We bend the overlap along the edges of the mesh and sew the second half of the tape to them with a fluffy pile outward - the seam goes along the edge of the tape and the mosquito net, if necessary, you can also sew it in the middle of the Velcro tape. After waiting 2-3 hours after gluing half of the tape with hooks on the window frame, we apply a mosquito net with a fleecy half of the tape sewn around the perimeter - reliable and inexpensive protection of the window opening from insects is ready.

Framed mosquito net is not cheap - we will make it with our own hands and with minimal costs. To do this, you will need: a plastic cable channel 15x10 mm; four metal corners 10 mm wide; 16 blind rivets 4x6 mm; a tube of glue; the mosquito net is of sufficient size.

We will install the finished frame mosquito net outside the window opening, i.e. in the same way as it is installed by window installers, therefore, when taking dimensions, we focus on the outer side of the window. Having received the required dimensions, we proceed to create a frame for the mosquito net - we measure them on the cable channel and cut it to size with a 45 ° cut angle with a saw blade for metal.

We sand the cut points with a large sandpaper or a coarse-grained sharpening bar, compose the cut frame blanks in the order of their collection, insert the metal corners and, holding them with one hand, drill holes in the cable channel, focusing on the holes in the corners. Rivets are placed in the finished holes and riveted with a riveter, while the riveter must be located outside the cable channel, and not inside it. In the absence of a riveter, you can use short screws with nuts and washers, after tightening them you need to cover them with any oil paint from the side of the nut so that it does not screw up during vibrations.

When the frame is ready, we proceed to fixing the mosquito net in it. By the way, it is most convenient to use a thin mesh, otherwise it will be difficult to pinch it in the cable channel. We put the mesh on top of the frame with the condition that its edges protrude beyond the frame by 200-300 mm, align and snap it with the cable channel cover, alternately moving from the long side to the short side, then long and short again. Before clamping the mesh on the second long and short sides, you need to pull it slightly (you need an assistant), but you should not be too zealous - you just need to remove the slack. Having completed the installation of the mosquito net on the frame, we cut off the mesh protruding at the edges, apply glue in several places between the cable channel and its cover, which will completely exclude the self-opening of the cover.

Now you need to fix the finished frame mosquito net on the window. From a sheet of tin or metal we cut two strips of 20x30 mm and two more 20x40 mm in size, bend them in the shape of the letter "Z" so that the bend covers the frame from the cable channel. On the shorter side of the fasteners, we drill a hole for a self-tapping screw. The ready-made fasteners are fixed on the frame outside the window opening, which will be covered by a mosquito net, with an 80-100 mm indent from the edges of the opening - long fasteners are installed on a self-tapping screw from above, short ones - from below. The distance between the slots of the upper and lower "Z" -shapes must be 10 mm longer than the length of the frame. For installation outside the window opening, a frame with a mosquito net is first inserted into the upper fasteners, then into the lower ones.

How to choose a mosquito net

The quality frame for bespoke mosquito nets by window manufacturers is made from extruded aluminum profiles. The aluminum profile is completely covered with powder paint, does not rust, is resistant to temperature extremes and chemicals. Profile walls can be from 0.7 to 1 mm thick - the thicker, the stronger they are.

At the corners, the aluminum profile of the frame is joined by connecting corners made of aluminum or plastic - their appearance and wall thickness may be different. From the point of view of ease of use, one-piece connecting corners are convenient, because their body does not have depressions and recesses, i.e. dirt and dead insects will not be deposited on them.

Ordinary mosquito netting is made of fiberglass - this material is strong enough, resistant to any atmospheric phenomena. The optimal mesh size in a mosquito net is from 1 to 1.2 mm - such a net will be a reliable barrier for mosquitoes, while allowing enough fresh air to pass through. The smaller mesh is useful for keeping out small insects such as midges, but the mesh will not allow air to pass through well. The standard color of the window mosquito net is gray. It is better not to use a white mesh, because its color will quickly change to gray and dirt will be clearly visible. Poor quality mosquito nets have a strong chemical odor and are easy to tear.

The handles installed on the frame of the mosquito net for ease of installation and dismantling are made of soft plastic and fastened with a rubber cord (service life no more than 2 years), hard plastic with rivets (service life more than 5 years), metal-plastic with rivets (service life over 10 years).

A fiberglass mosquito net will provide reliable protection against mosquitoes, but it will not be able to keep pets, such as dogs, cats, parrots, etc. To be completely sure that your pet will not fall out of a window covered only with a mosquito net, you will need a special, albeit not quite mosquito net - "anticoshka" ("anticot").

The most successful material from which the mosquito netting of the "anticoshka" series is made is polyester. Such a mesh has only black color, the thickness of its constituent nylon threads in a plastic sheath is from 0.6 to 0.8 mm, the cell is slightly larger than that of a standard mosquito net - 1.1x1.5 mm. Each individual thread, which is part of the "anti-cat" mesh, is able to withstand a weight of 4 kg. Standard fastening of a framed mosquito net with an anti-cattle cloth to the corners at the top and bottom of the window opening is ineffective, because an animal in a jump can knock the frame with the net outward and fall out - the fastening is carried out on self-tapping screws along the perimeter of the net frame to the window frame. The inconveniences of using the mesh of the "anticoshka" series - it is difficult to periodically remove and wash the mesh because of the rigid attachment to self-tapping screws, after a few years from the moment of installation, the plastic braid will peel off from temperature changes, a rather high cost - about 4500 rubles. per m 2.

In addition to polyester "anti-cat" nets, there are steel and aluminum nets. The first of them have a cell size from 10 to 50 mm 2, i.e. they are able to keep the pet from falling, but they are not able to keep mosquitoes. Large mesh aluminum nets will not stop mosquitoes either, and they are much less durable than polyester nets. Metal nets are used not to block access to mosquitoes and other insects, but to protect pets - in addition to such a mesh, a second mesh is installed on the frame, already anti-mosquito, the distance between the two nets should be at least 20 mm so that the pet does not damage the mosquito net with claws ...

How to care for a mosquito net during use

As the fabric of the mosquito net becomes dirty, it is necessary to wash it, having previously removed the frame of the net from the window opening - grasp the handles on it with both hands, slightly lift the frame of the mosquito net up to the stop and remove it from the lower fasteners, put it on low tide, grasp the lower edge with your hand and bring the frame into the room. To wash the mesh, simple detergents are used, such as washing powder and laundry soap, cleaning is done with a foam rubber sponge or a soft brush - you should not press hard on the canvas, because it can come out of the fastening grooves.

Installation of the mosquito net frame after cleaning it is carried out in the following order: holding the frame by its lower part (not by the handles), pull it halfway out of the window opening, put it on the ebb and on the lower part of the window frame; grab the handles on it and bring it to an upright position; Slide the top of the frame into the top mounts, then lower it into the slots on the bottom mounts.

When reinstalling the frame with mesh, make sure that the underside of the frame fits into the grooves of the fasteners and not on the bottom of the window frame.

At the end of the warm season, the frame with the mosquito net must be removed from the windows, washed and stored in an upright position - low temperatures will damage the structure of the threads, weaken them.

Abdyuzhanov Rustam, rmnt.ru

The simplest is to make your own mosquito net from insects using the appropriate material with fine mesh and adhesive tape for fastening. Such a product will provide protection for the premises for several seasons.

You will definitely need the following components, which can be purchased at retail:

  • mosquito net with 1.2 mm meshes;
  • adhesive tape - one side of it should contain nap, and on the other there should be many small hooks;
  • glue for gluing cork or mosaic.

Surface preparation

Mosquito nets for plastic windows should be installed on a clean, prepared surface. The space is prepared by cleaning the open windows from dirt and degreasing their inner surface. To do this, you can use a soapy sponge, wiping it after with clean gauze.

Considering that the installation is carried out on plastic windows, be sure to use only soapy water for cleaning, and in no case use solvents or alcohols.

Laying the tape

After cleaning the surface, peel off the sticky tape. Select the part with the hooks and glue it to the perimeter of the window opening using the glue on the back. Make sure that the tape does not interfere with the closing of the window. It is very important that it does not create difficulties in the joint area between the base of the window and the side where it is closed.

The tape can be glued more easily if you do the opposite, apply glue around the entire perimeter of the required area, and then, without making unnecessary measurements, cut the tape to the required length and width.

Layout and installation

Leave the tape to dry for a while and start marking the mosquito net. Having measured the perimeter of the opening, and draw its outline on the canvas. When trimming, leave a margin that will be equal to the width. You need to bend the overlap around the perimeter, and then sew the second part of the tape, with the pile outward. Sew a seam around the edge, or make additional stitches in the middle if needed. Wait about three hours after the hook tape is attached to the frame. Then attach the net with fluffy tape to it. Now you know that it is not so difficult to do this design with your own hands.

Installation of a mosquito net on the frame

Of course, the next option is not the cheapest one. However, costs can be minimized if the installation on plastic windows is carried out independently.

Materials. You need to purchase: metal corners, the width of which is about 1 cm, a plastic cable channel measuring 15x10 mm, glue, about sixteen blind rivets, the canvas itself of the required size.

Frame making

Since this kind of product is installed outside the window, when taking your measurements, focus on this side of the window. After the necessary data are received, you can start making the future frame: mark your received data on the cable and cut the required length at forty-five degrees of the saw cut using a saw or knife.

Sand the places where the cut was made with a special sharpening bar. Compare the finished polished components of the future frame, connect with metal corners. While holding them, make rivet holes in the finished cable duct, taking into account the holes in the metal corners.

Insert rivets into the holes. It is important that the rivet is on the outside of your cable, not inside. If you don't have a riveter, you can use screws and nuts.

After tightening the screws, be sure to coat the nut with oil paint to prevent the nut from loosening during vibration.

Fastening the blade to the frame

After completing the frame, proceed to attaching your mosquito blanket to it. It is best to use a thin mesh to avoid the difficulty of pinching it in the cable. Place it on top of the frame in such a way that the edges protrude 2-3 cm beyond the frame perimeter, and snap the mesh with the cover of the cable duct, alternating between the short and long sides. Be careful before securing the long side.

Do not forget to pull it up a little to the corner to eliminate the sagging - but you should not pull it too much, as this can tear the protective sheet. After you finish installing it on the frame, you can trim off any unnecessary protruding excess. In some locations, apply adhesive between the cable and the cover to prevent the cover from opening spontaneously.

How to install a finished one in a window opening

From a sheet of metal, cut two strips of 20x30 and 20x40 mm, bending them into a Z shape. Try to make the bend wrap around the channel. Choose the shorter side on which to drill the hole for the self-tapping screw. Ready-made fasteners are installed on the street side of the window, retreating about a centimeter from the window opening.

The fasteners are installed using a self-tapping screw, with the long fasteners at the top and the short ones at the bottom. The distance between the lower and upper fasteners must exceed the frame length by 1 cm. Start installation with the upper fasteners and end with the lower ones.

Nowadays, everything is being improved technically, and the mosquito net is no exception. Modern mosquito nets are almost invisible, lightweight, durable, good for light transmission and block the path of street dust. Their design is quite repeatable at home; a do-it-yourself mosquito net can be made without experience and special tools in 2-3 hours... This means at least 2-3 times savings in money (multiply by the number of windows), but you need to know which type of window the mesh is best for and how to make it so that it immediately fits into place and lasts longer. In what we will try to help the readers.

Types of window grids

Manufacturers offer a wide selection of swing mosquito nets (pos. 1 in the figure below), sliding, pos. 2, pleated (folding accordion), pos. 3, and roll nets, pos. 4. The last two types do not have to be removed for the winter and they practically do not take up the space of the room. But they all have 3 features.

Firstly, the technical complexity: hinges, locks, mechanisms are needed, and for installation - acc. production skills and special tools. Secondly, the high cost. Turnkey swinging net is cheaper than 1600 rubles / sq. m in the Russian Federation could not be found. Sliding pulls more by about 1900 rubles. per sq. m, and pleated and rolled mesh for 4500 rubles. sq. m is incredibly cheap.

But most importantly, all "mechanical" nets do not adequately protect against mosquitoes. As you know, male mosquitoes do not suck blood, and mosquitoes need it to ripen their eggs. Sensing warm-blooded people in the room, the beautiful ladies of the mosquito genus hide nearby and patiently wait when it will be possible to seize the moment for an invasion. Mosquitoes need only 2-4 seconds to get inside; movable nets open for a longer time. Let only one individual fly in, but its annoying itching will not allow you to sleep properly. What is so difficult in the summer heat and stuffiness.

Note: See end for a simple and inexpensive way to keep mosquitoes out of a mesh-covered opening, window or door.

A reliable and inexpensive anti-mosquito net on the window with your own hands is made with a fixed frame (pos. 5) or frameless, pos. 6. The frame mosquito net can be external, internal or inserted into the window opening. Frameless meshes are only possible internally. Cost of 1 sq. m of the factory frame mesh, without installation, is 700-1000 rubles / sq. m; the same amount will have to be paid for installation on any floor above the first. A set of factory parts for making a frame mesh yourself costs 300-500 rubles. without a cloth. A completely finished frameless mesh for 1 window will cost the same amount. An option for 80-100 rubles / window is possible, but under a big question, see below.

Which one to do?

In general, the manufacture of a homemade mosquito net is carried out taking into account the following:

  • Window frame material - plastic, wood.
  • If the window is plastic, then the type of sash to be opened is hinged, tiltable, combined.
  • Home ownership type - private house, high-rise building.
  • Number of storeys of the building.
  • Window opening frequency.

According to these conditions, the following are selected:

  1. the material of the mesh panel - depending on local conditions and the presence of cats and small rodents in the house or nearby;
  2. mesh design - frame, frameless;
  3. if frame - its location in the opening: internal, external, plug-in;
  4. also for the frame mesh - frame design and materials for it;
  5. mounting method - both frame and frameless mosquito nets can be attached to the window in several ways;
  6. assembling a frame with a panel (if the mesh is frame) or sewing a panel of a frameless mesh;
  7. assembly / installation of the grid on site.

Note: a mosquito net for plastic windows with tiltable sashes is made exclusively of an external frame, unless the openable sash is completely removed for the summer.

Cloth

The maximum permissible mesh size of the mosquito net is 3.7x3.7 mm; they are already crawling through the big mosquitoes. The minimum is limited by the conditions of air and light transmission. Meshes with a mesh of less than 2x2 mm are suitable as temporary ones or in conditions of good ventilation, for example. on the balcony; see also below. Mosquito netting in the middle zone of the Russian Federation is usually taken with a mesh of 3x3 mm; in taiga places, where petty gnats pester, with a mesh of 2x2 and even 1.5x1.5 mm. Meshes with a mesh of 1x1 mm are used in very dusty places.

Mosquito nets made of fiberglass (fiberglass) with a PVC coating (item 1 in the figure) are still in use due to their strength, but otherwise they are poor: light and air transmission is not important, because the threads are thick. PVC under the influence of ultraviolet radiation and dust soon collapses, the mesh becomes a dust collector and itself begins to dust with the smallest glass needles. Practically in the southern regions of the Russian Federation, fiberglass panels need to be changed every season.

Modern mosquito nets are woven from polyester (polyester) fibers. A grid with a rectangular mesh (pos. 2) is cheaper, stronger and better reflects (does not accumulate in itself) street dust, but it does not let light and air pass through. In places where small bloodsuckers (midges, spines) are common, and the Sun does not indulge in bright radiance in summer, it is better to make a mesh on the window from a material with 6-sided meshes, pos. 3. A cloth with 1.5 mm hexagonal meshes gives the same resistance to light and air currents as a woven cloth with rectangular meshes 2.7x2.7 mm.

The size of the mesh and the type of weaving is not always known to sellers, especially on the Internet. Most often they offer a grid with rectangular cells of the Standard, Antidust and Anticoshka brands, pos. 4:

  • Standard - mesh 3x3 mm, material of normal strength.
  • Anti-dust - mesh 1x1 or 1.5x1.5 mm, material with increased wear resistance and strength. The weaving of the fabric is smooth: the dust settles little on the mesh, but is mainly reflected back by small swirls of air. Designed for southern treeless areas with high insolation and dust content in the air. It can replace the "antignus" mesh with a 6-sided fine mesh in taiga and tundra, but light transmission for high latitudes is satisfactory at best.
  • Anticoshka - a mesh of 2.5x3.5 mm or so, a material of increased strength. Light and air transmission is satisfactory for middle latitudes and further south. Does not save from the gnat; the cell cannot be reduced, since otherwise the cat will rip off its claws.

About anti-cats

Plastic mosquito net - anti-cat withstands the antics of medium-sized and violent cats and small rodents; those, by the way, climb vertically no worse than their pursuers. It is advisable to put a plastic anti-cat on the first floors, but if you have a domestic cat, then on top of the mosquito net you need to put a steel one with a rare mesh on the inside, see fig.; the same is done outside if there are many stray cats in the area.

Firstly, domestic cats are on average larger and stronger than street cats, and their claws are sharper because wear out less. Secondly, it is more a rule than an exception: a completely well-behaved domestic cat, having received a mosquito net at its disposal, throws its scratching post and begins to tear up the mosquito protection for nothing. Often at the same time, ripping off the claws.

What colour?

The clarity and contrast of the picture outside the window, when viewed through a white mesh, even with a very rare large mesh, noticeably fall, but from the outside to the inside it is clearly visible through it. The point here is in the so-called. diffraction distortion of the luminous flux. Therefore, it is better to take a mosquito net black, dark gray or dark brown. When viewed obliquely, the moire pattern will be more noticeable on it, but visibility outwards will generally improve, and from outside inwards it will deteriorate even more.

Framed or not?

Frameless mosquito nets of the correct design either stick poorly in place, or do not allow frequent removal, therefore their use is limited (see below for more details). There is also a "superbudget" option, up to 100 rubles. on a window, frameless mesh: the standard seals of a plastic window are removed, a cloth is inserted into their grooves and fixed with a linen cord; see eg. video:

Video: an example of making a frameless mosquito net

But, if PVC windows with a rubber seal are inexpensive, then, firstly, it turns out that it is impossible to pull out the seal that has stuck in 2-3 years without tearing it. Secondly, if the windows are new and the sealant is nevertheless removed, then after the same 2-3 seasons it ceases to seal, the window begins to blow and flow. Renovation of a window then costs a lot more than materials for a frame mesh, up to the need to replace a window frame. Therefore, further we will deal mainly with frame mosquito nets, and we will return to frameless ones when it comes to where they are appropriate.

Fastening

When choosing the method of fastening and installing the frame mesh, please note: if the mesh is external, and the window is under warranty, then the latter "burns out", unless the mesh is ordered on a turnkey basis from the window manufacturer. The reason is that the fasteners will have to spoil the frame. It is possible to fix the frame mesh to the plastic window in 3 ways (see the figure on the right); to the wooden one - with some peculiarities, see below.

Fastening with plungers (spring-loaded rods with heads, on the left in the figure) is the easiest way: the heads are retracted, the mesh is put in place, the heads are released, and the heels of the rods wedge the mesh in the opening. On the rods, the net can be installed both from the inside and outside, however, fastening mosquito nets with plungers is not widespread on the trail. reasons:

  • The mesh holds weakly - a strong wind pushes it inward or, outside, generally carries it away.
  • Large concentrated loads fall on the heels of the plungers; the net flutters with the wind, and the heels of the rods are eaten out in the frame from any hole material, which makes the window warranty void.
  • The holes for the rods weaken the frame, and from the same alternating wind loads, it breaks faster than a solid one.
  • Mosquito net plows are expensive and require special tools to install.

The frames of external mosquito nets are attached to the window frames, most often with Z-profiles, in the center. Then the grids themselves are as compact as possible and take up a minimum of space in winter storage. But, firstly, fastening the mosquito net with Z-profiles on the upper floors with your own hands is simply life-threatening: to mark and install the fasteners, you have to protrude half out of the window. Secondly, drilling of the window frame is required, which is why the guarantee for the window is lost or, if it is wooden, there are foci of rot.

The fastening of the mosquito net with staples, on the right in the figure, is similar to the fastening with Z-profiles, but the staples are placed on the frame of the net, which can also be internal or external. The thickness of the bag of nets with staples in winter storage swells twice or more; the storage nets must be shifted with cardboard so that they do not break each other with staples, but the window frame is not damaged. A frame mosquito net with brackets is the most preferable option for making it yourself, especially if the window is wooden and / or the mesh frame is made of scrap materials, see below.

Measurements

Preparation for the manufacture or purchase of a frame mosquito net begins with measurements. If the window is wooden, then measure the width and height of the skylight in several places; the smallest value is taken as the actual value. Suddenly you order a mesh in a wooden window for self-installation, you need to ask the manufacturer exactly what is there, where and how to measure, because the designs of wooden windows are varied.

For a mosquito net on Z-profiles in a plastic window, you also need to measure its light opening in 3-4 places in height and width (on the left in the figure), to make sure - did it? Then you need to measure the same width and height of the opening between the inner edges of the seals (in the center); if the opening has led more than 2 mm - in the narrowest place. Finally, the masters will be grateful to you, and the mesh will immediately fit exactly in place if you also measure the width of the slopes O and the height of their sills P, on the right in Fig.

Measurements for staples

Left to the next. rice. the names of the parts of the fastening bracket for the mosquito net are given; it will be useful to us further. And on the right, it is shown how, by measuring the window frame, to calculate the dimensions of the profile and adjust the dimensions of the mesh frame; the width of the staple is taken from 12 mm. At the same time, the light opening of the window is slightly reduced, but it is not necessary to use U-shaped brackets to make the mesh frame flush with the window on the inside: the heads of the fasteners will spoil the window frame. The paws of the upper braces are made longer than the lower ones (see below); the height of the staple flange must be equal to the height of the escutcheon with the seal.

How to put ready

Let's say you decide to save money only on the installation of the mesh. Self-installation of a mosquito net on a plastic window is possible in several ways. The most reliable is outside in the corners, pos. 1a on the next. rice: no wind will tear the mesh. But in this way it is possible to fix mosquito nets only in private houses or if the supplier of new windows offers nets as a gift. The fact is that marking the holes for the mounting angles with your own hands in this case is only possible in place, because it is necessary not to go astray in 2 directions at once.

If the windows are not yet in the walls, then they put nets on their frames, mark the holes for the fasteners, put the corners, and only then mount the windows in the wall openings. It is impossible to do this on the already mounted windows of the upper floors without experience in working at height and climbing equipment, and from the first floors the nets can simply be stolen.

Note: Factory mosquito nets for outdoor installation from thieves are often equipped with internal rotary latches. But, first, the tongue of the latch spoils the frame over time (do not forget, the wind flutters the mesh). Second, the tongue of a simple latch is simply removed from the outside with a thin nail or wire pushed through the mesh, and latches with locks are expensive.

Fastening with Z-profiles is described above and shown in pos. 1b Fig. Outside, on the upper floors, it can be done, albeit with a risk to life, or with reliable belay with an electrician's belt with a halyard. But a strong side wind can move the net, turn it right out and break it. Still more reliable is the fastening with staples, pos. 2. Frame mosquito net on brackets external and plug-in differ not only in the size of the mesh frame, but also in the height of the shelf of the fastening brackets. In the designations of typical profiles, it is given, in mm, by the last 2 digits; for typical plastic windows - acc. 13 and 7 mm. Therefore, before ordering the mesh, you need to measure the height of the sill of the window slope - suddenly it is not typical. Then you need to inform the craftsmen to pick up the desired profile, otherwise the mesh will either hang out, or will not fit at all.

Note: the upper fasteners of the frame mosquito net are placed 1.5 cm deeper than the lower one, pos. 3 in Fig. Why is clear from pos. 4, which shows the process of installing the mesh into the fasteners.

Homemade frames

Like real

The set of parts for self-assembly of a mosquito net is shown on the left in Fig. For a non-standard window, the nearest larger standard size is taken and the racks with crossbars are cut to size. For installation on Z-profiles, the inside dimensions of the frame must be equal to the dimensions of the skylight; See above for installing the mesh on the staples. The width of the profiles, as a rule, is from 60 mm, so that it is enough for mounting on brackets. An additional transverse beam - impost - and fastenings for it, are ordered as an option if the height of the mesh is more than 1.3-1.5 m. In swinging and sliding grids, imposts are placed every 60-80 cm in height.

The material of the profiles and fasteners is of some importance. Steel corners (in the center in the figure) are a little cheaper, but they rust over time - the PVC coating wears out. In addition, the metal rubs the plastic of the struts and crossbars, causing the frame to loosen. The plastic corner connectors of the mosquito net frame (left in the figure) are good in every way. As for the actual frame profiles, they are made of PVC (cheaper) or propylene (more expensive). PVC is less durable and becomes brittle from ultraviolet radiation after 3-4 seasons. Propylene frames of mosquito nets serve for 10 years or more, you only need to change the canvas in a timely manner as needed.

The frame on steel corners is fastened with through bolts. The frame on plastic corners is fastened either with self-tapping screws or standard latches; you can also reinforce it with hardware to last longer. See below for how to put the mesh into the frame.

From something

Plastic profiles for the frames of mosquito nets are also sold in lengths of 3 and 6 m. If the nets need to be placed on several windows, then purchasing them and connecting them into frames with improvised means is the best option in terms of reliability and minimum costs. In this case, you need to purchase a special elastic cord for laying the mesh into the grooves, pos. 7 in Fig. The surface of the mesh cord is ribbed; when rolling it into a groove with a roller, the ribs grab the longitudinal threads of the mesh in this direction, providing a more uniform tension.

The frame of the mosquito net is completely "from just about anything" made of boxes - plastic cable channels with a width of 10-60 mm. For the frame of the outer mesh in Z-profiles, you need to take boxes of approximately square cross-section (marked with red arrows in pos. 1), so the frame will be stronger and more rigid. For frames for landing on brackets, boxes that are oblong in cross-section (blue arrows) are better suited.

Assemble the frame on conventional flat steel corners, pos. 2 and 3. The frame of the cable channels is bolted by removing the covers of the boxes. For a frame made of special profiles, you need to take corners with a thickness of 1.5 mm and higher and fasten them with self-tapping screws for metal - there is no cover, you cannot put a nut with a spring washer on a bolt. An impost, if necessary, is made from a piece of a cable channel, gluing its cover with strong glue (mounting moment, Titanium) and hammering the ends with wooden plugs. The impost is attached to the frame with through self-tapping screws for wood.

Laying the canvas

The finished frame is laid horizontally with a groove or open channel upward. A mesh cloth with an allowance of 3 cm (preferably 10-15 cm) is applied, straightened. If the allowance is large, the canvas will lie smoother when the wings of the allowance, having spread, are pressed along the contour with small weights. Further, if the frame is made of a special profile, a cord is laid on the canvas above the groove and rolled with a roller until it is fully pressed. The excess mesh is cut with a knife, leaving approx. 1 cm above the groove.

If the frame is made of cable channels, then the covers of the narrow sides are first placed on the superimposed and straightened mesh. Press them down until they snap into place immediately along the entire length, preferably in 4 hands. Then long covers are also applied and pressed. If you act carefully and consistently, the net will be stretched as evenly as a branded one.

Pens

The outer mosquito net cannot be replaced without handles. The cheapest option is soft and thin plastic, on the left in pos. 4. These are put in place before the mesh is applied and pressed into the grooves of the profiles along with it with a cord. Cheap, simple, but thin handles often break, and when replacing the panel, you also have to change the cord - it flattens over the handle, and this section of it will not hold the new mesh. In addition, the soft handles cannot be placed on the cable duct frame. Therefore, it is better to put stronger handles on the frame of the mosquito net, attached with self-tapping screws, on the right in pos. 4.

Note: do not put one furniture handle on an impost for the sake of a penny saving - the frame will soon break.

Staples

Plastic brackets-holders of the outer mosquito net (pos. 6a and 6b) do not damage the window frame, but they are rather fragile and often break in strong winds; the mesh dangles in them. Steel spring brackets (pos. 5) more reliably and tightly press the mesh to the window, but they can scratch the window frame, even if covered with plastic: thin soft PVC wipes quickly. The best way to make a spring clip for attaching a mosquito net completely reliable and safe is to pull a piece of heat-shrinkable tubing (HERE) over it and warm it up with a household hairdryer at maximum or gently turning it over a gas flame. The brace turns out to be tightly covered with a layer of durable elastic plastic with a thickness of approx. 1 mm. This is the best option for installing a mosquito net on brackets in a wooden window.

No frame

Frameless mosquito nets are fastened in place either with Velcro tape - burdock Velcro - or with soft magnetic strips, the same ones that are inserted into the seals of refrigerator doors. Each of these attachment systems has its own advantages and disadvantages and its own scope.

Velcro

The velcro straps hold the mesh panel very tightly, but it is not so easy to peel it off either. Half of the Velcro tape in hooks is glued to the window frame from the inside. If the window is plastic, then the hooked half of the Velcro is glued along the inner contour of the slope from the seal. The fleecy half of the Velcro is sewn along the contour of the mesh panel. For winter storage, the cloth is rolled up; if the hooked half of the Velcro was sewn to it, then the roll would have grabbed tightly and in the spring it would have been impossible to unfold it without damaging it.

In the use of mosquito nets with Velcro, unpleasant circumstances come to light: it hurts to sit firmly in place. Try peeling off the tongue of your Velcro shoe, where it is only 1-4 square meters. see. And if the adhesion area is about 100 times larger? It is necessary to glue the "burdock" side to the window frame with a very strong glue, the remnants of which cannot be removed without damaging the window frame. And this does not guarantee that on the 2nd - 3rd removal of the mesh, the glued half of the Velcro will not stretch along with it. Therefore, a mosquito net with Velcro is most often placed on balcony windows, in which the net is installed throughout the season. The thin mesh does not interfere with closing the window sash.

Note: not so long ago, a modification of burdock Velcro appeared on sale - burdock buttons. To install a frameless mosquito net on a balcony window, this is perhaps the best option, see next. video:

Video: installing a frameless mosquito net on burdock buttons

Magnets

Magnetic tape holders are available in single-pole, for attachment to steel, and bipolar, for attachment to a non-magnetic base. Mosquito nets are made on a single-pole magnetic tape, for example, in car windows; at a picnic or in the country it is better to leave them open so that the machine does not turn into an oven. The magnetic tape is sheathed with a drawstring (long narrow sleeve) made of thin, durable and non-rotting fabric: thin raincoat fabric, nylon calender, and sewn along the contour of the cloth, which can only be applied in place. The mesh on the magnets is weak, but in a small opening it is quite reliable, and does not damage the base at all.

Bipolar magnetic holders adhere more tightly and are therefore suitable for windows and doors. For ready-made kits (which are more expensive), the polarity of the tapes is marked, and one of them is already glued to the Velcro tape. It is stuck to a fat-free base, and the associated magnet is sewn in a sleeve along the edge of the panel, see above. Bipolar magnetic Velcro can be made from a pair of unipolar tape and double-sided tape. The polarity of the tapes must be marked so that they stick together when installing the panel, and do not bounce off each other. If the error occurred with the polarity, then, in general, it's okay: we turn the panel over, and it holds, only weaker. A mosquito net on magnetic holders is, perhaps, the best option for going to the country or temporary residence, say, at a recreation center.

And at the door

Magnetic strap holders allow you to make mosquito netting on your balcony door mosquito-proof, but easily walkable for people. To do this, a pair of panels (see the figure on the right) are attached at the top and sides to the door frame with burdock Velcro, and at the bottom and the seam is fastened with a bipolar magnetic tape. There is one trick here: along the seam, the magnet should be fastened in segments of 10-15 cm every 20-25 cm, pos. 2 in Fig. The edges of the seam should overlap the width of the tape. Then a person will simply pass through such a curtain, even if he carries something with both hands, but behind him it will collapse tightly faster than the fastest mosquito has time to fly.
