What can you make snow from at home? We make artificial snow using baking soda and shaving foam.

This year, December was in no hurry to please us with snow. Every day Svyatoslav asked when it would snow, so that you could make snowmen. So I decided to experiment with artificial snow. I must say there are many recipes on the net. For myself, I chose exactly those that did not require additional trips to the store 🙂

Whether it is snowing or not, it doesn't even matter - but what is important is that this is another way to get the child interested in modeling. Because you can really sculpt from it, but not like from dough, plasticine or kinetic sand... This is a new experience for a child, a new interest and a new reason to dream up.

And here is the recipe for the first version of the snow:
Pack of starch + vegetable oil or baby oil.
The oil is gradually added to the starch and stirred. Such "snow" sticks well and crumbles back just as well. The child was carried away for a long time, it didn't even take any additional devices and figurines for modeling, he just crumpled it and sculpted balls, made snow house in various variations.

As an option for an experiment, try adding water to starch instead of oil, the result will be different, but no less interesting, as we did
The second type of snow is more exotic:

This will require a pack of baking soda and shaving foam.
The very process of creating snow is very unusual, because previously the shaving foam did not fall into the hands of the child, and the process of squeezing out brought complete delight.
When the foam is squeezed out, it is necessary to mix everything thoroughly, you may need to add more soda so that the mass turns out to be crumbly and does not stick to your hands, but at the same time, sticks together into balls.

This version of the snow is very pleasant to the touch, cool and white like real snow. The only negative for me is a strong aroma, although this did not bother the child. Svyatoslav again selflessly sculpted, connected his favorite penguins and built glaciers and slides for them.

Both types of snow keep well. First option we kept it in containers and even after a week did not lose its properties at all.
Second snow option, after use, I kept in the refrigerator in plastic bag... In the open air, it dries up and becomes crumbly, it will not work to sculpt from it.
And from the refrigerator it was exactly the same as when it was first used.

In conclusion snow games, when interest in the sculpting process diminished, I prepared a snow one. As a rule, such boxes are of interest to children who are already at the age of role-playing. For her, I took the attributes that were at hand and, of course, my favorite characters, suggested the plot and the game began.

And I, in turn, move away, and am glad that every day my participation is required less and less.

Children love snow. You can make snowballs from it, make snowmen and build fortresses. Snow is an invariable attribute of the Christmas tree and the New Year. Unfortunately, the magic of the snow does not last long, and in home environment, it melts quickly in warmth. Artificial snow comes to the rescue, made with my own hands from those materials that can be found in every home. He is not afraid of heat, and with such material you can decorate a Christmas tree, add crafts or even make a snowman right in the room.

Styrofoam

Most easy way(and one of the most common) - making foam snow. Even a child can handle this! A piece of Styrofoam (found in a box from household appliances) simply breaks down into small grains.

Polyethylene

An analogue of polystyrene - polyethylene film, which is also used in product packaging. Making snow out of it is simple: you need to roll the film into a tight tube, and then grate it on a fine grater.

Received air mass mixes with sequins and potato starch(3-5 sachets) and water. When the composition becomes homogeneous, it must be dried on a battery.

Soap

White soap is used to make artificial snow. It is necessary to grate it on a fine or medium grater, then mix with baby powder. The snow is ready! It looks like a real one and even smells good.

Advice

You can use a candle instead of a bar of soap. white.

Shaving foam and soda

Great homemade snow made from shaving foam and baking soda. They need to be mixed in a ratio of 1.5: 1 (one and a half packs of soda per can of foam). The ingredients are gradually and simultaneously poured into a deep container, thoroughly mixed. You can add sparkles. The mixture should cool in the refrigerator for 5-7 minutes, then it is ready for use. You can make real snowballs from foamy soda snow.

Eggshell

Don't rush to throw away the white eggshell after cooking. After removing the films, you need to place the shells in a tight bag, put on hard surface and grind with a rolling pin. The resulting powder can be mixed with glitter for beauty.

Diapers

Incredible but true: you can make snow from baby diapers. Each contains a unique material inside: sodium polyacrylate, the main property of which is to absorb liquid 200 and even 300 times its own weight. It is from sodium polyacrylate that artificial snow is produced, which can be bought in a store.

To create snow, you need to cut the diapers with scissors, take out the contents, pour into a container and slowly pour water there, stirring the contents. The sodium polyacrylate must absorb the liquid.

Finished artificial snow should look and feel like real snow. After mixing, the mass is placed in the refrigerator for a while, and then - create and enjoy the process.

diaper snow

Toilet paper

Toilet paper, paper towels or napkins (they should all be white) are torn into small pieces. The grated soap is placed in a glass or ceramic container, followed by a layer of paper.

The bowl is placed in the microwave for 30-40 seconds. Paper fibers after heat treatment become fluffy, rise, and the soap softens.

A little water is added to the mass, everything is thoroughly mixed and left in the refrigerator for 3 minutes. After that, the snow must be crushed again. From the resulting snow, you can sculpt whatever your heart desires.

Output:

Make artificial snow from available materials everyone can. He will become great decoration, craft material and a fun toy for baby.

Today, there are many ways to make artificial snow at home.
1. Making snow from soap

Grate white soap (or a white candle) and mix with baby powder.

2. Making snow from foam

On a grater, you need to grate the foam and sprinkle it on the branches, which must first be smeared with glue. Branches for this can be taken from any tree, and if you add a little sparkle to the foam, then the snow on the branches will sparkle beautifully. This method can be used to decorate spreading and large branches. Snow-covered branches can be decorated with anything, for example, a garland, bows, balls, etc.
3. Snow from diapers

Having taken a sufficient number of diapers, you will have to carefully cut them with scissors and pour the contents - the same sodium polyacrylate - into a previously prepared container. For these purposes, you can take a bucket or a basin, or get by with a smaller container - it will all depend on how much snow you want to end up with. After the contents of the diapers are poured into the container, you should pour some water there, stir, and wait some time until the sodium polyacrylate absorbs the liquid. If the "snow" looks dry, add some more water and stir again. And so on until the contents of the container look like real snow. To make the artificial snow look like real not only externally, but also to the touch, it is enough to place it in the refrigerator. If the container is too large - in the cold. The main thing is that the temperature is not below zero - in this case, the water will freeze, and our artificial snow will simply turn into ice.
4. Snow from packaging bags (in the photo comparison with real snow)

You will need:
- foamed polyethylene; (Material that is used as packing material for fragile items, as well as inserted into the toes of new shoes to maintain shape.)
- fine grater
- scissors.

It is advisable to work with gloves. With a little effort we get the following result, but if you are not satisfied with this result, you can experiment further. Let's take a pair of scissors and cut our snow flakes into small pieces.
5 salt frost

We will simulate hoarfrost using salt crystals. It will turn out to be real chemical experiment, and for the kid - magical transformation... It is better to take coarse salt, then the crystals will be more effective. Salt crystals can be colored by touching up the salt solution with ink, brilliant green, or food coloring.
So. Pour salt into boiling water, let it dissolve completely (proportion: 1 kg of salt per 1.5-2 liters of water). Dip clean and dry twigs into a hot saline solution (this is important). Leave to cool. Then carefully remove the branches and let dry. The frost is ready. The method is convenient for small twigs, dried herbs, dill umbrellas, etc. You can also grow salt crystals on Christmas tree decorations. "Frosty" branches look good not only solo, as an independent winter bouquet, but also in New Year's compositions from coniferous branches.

6. Snow from shaving foam

You should mix about a pack of baking soda with about a can of shaving foam. By kneading a mass of these ingredients, you get a cool, snow-like substance from which snowballs and snows really form.
