Instead of sand painting: a light table, salt and do-it-yourself collages. Light table for sand animation - transformer DIY kinetic sand table

Hello, friends!

Today I want to tell you about how to make a table for sand, sand animation.

To be honest, I had the idea of making such a stationary table for a long time, but all hands did not “reach” (we).

And finally, a miracle happened and even settled in our house 🙂 Children are happy, and parents too 🙂 Not to mention the joy of the family budget, which did not have to “lose weight” by a fairly significant amount - ready-made tables for sand painting, as for me, are real cost too much.

What you need to make a sand painting table

  • Plywood box (can be bought at a hardware store. Please note that there are sufficiently high sides);
  • Piece of plexiglass;
  • Whatman;
  • Double sided tape;
  • Two pieces of plastic plinth (for the interior of the box, you can, in principle, without it);
  • Four bars for legs, special glue, screws to attach the legs to the box;
  • LED lamp or lamp;

How to make a sand painting table

If you buy everything in advance, then you can easily assemble such a table in one or two evenings, plus drying time, so that everything sticks together with high quality. So, what and how to buy for a table.

What to buy to make a table

First, let me tell you about box, since it is the main component of the drawing table. In principle, any plywood box that is deep and wide enough will do. We bought at a hardware store the most common plywood box with high sides and handles-holes on the sides (it turned out, by the way, very convenient for transporting the table). In the same place, in the store, by the way, they immediately cut a hole in the bottom, since at home we did not have the necessary tools for such an operation.

Regarding the hole in the bottom of the box - this is actually himself tablet for drawing, the hole through which the light will pass and the place where we will place the plexiglass. Do not forget to leave a frame of 3-5 cm of plywood around the perimeter so that there is something to glue the glass to.

Why plexiglass? Because, firstly, it is lighter - which means it will put less pressure on the plywood and the structure will be more reliable, and secondly, it is safer, it will not crack, will not break - the child will be safer.

We bought plexiglass in the same place, in the same hardware store and cut it to fit the size of the box.

We already have all the main components of the table. Now you need to buy bars for the legs and boards for fasteners (optional), after which you can safely leave the hardware store and go collect the table home.

Assembling a sand painting table

First thing - everything is measured carefully(the length and width of the drawer, the dimensions of the opening and the Plexiglas plate, etc.) so that there are no surprises later.

Cut out a piece of paper the desired dimensions (same as plexiglass) and glue it to the plexiglass using double-sided tape. Whatman paper is needed so that the light is evenly scattered over the area of the entire tablet and the lamp itself is not visible.

We put the plexiglass in the box and stick to the frame of the box with double-sided tape. It is possible to put a plastic plinth frame on top of the glass so that fine sand does not get between the glass and the box and does not get stuck there, but, in principle, if everything is measured and cut off well, then the plexiglass will fit snugly against the box.

That's it, our sand drawing tablet is ready.

Sanding, painting, varnishing. You can paint the legs in a different color, you can make the entire table, for example, white or blue - as you wish. That, in fact, is all - our sand painting table is ready 🙂

Where to get light

At first I thought to buy led lamp and permanently attach it to the table, but then I realized that this is extra weight for the table, and then I can’t use this lamp in any way.

And the distance from the light source to the glass is also important. The larger it is, the more scattered the light will be, cover a larger area and the lamp itself will not be visible as a spot of bright light on the tablet. Therefore, we simply put the lamp under the table, on the floor. Comfortable and safe 🙂

How to draw, where to get sand

Sand can be bought at the store. Sand is suitable for children's creativity, decor, or for sand ceremonies, as an option.

Sand can be "made" by yourself. For this, ordinary river sand, previously sifted and calcined in the oven, may be suitable.

Sand can be replaced with other material. For example, for me, an unexpectedly cool option was semolina calcined in the oven. I really really liked this material - I honestly did not expect my experiment to be so successful. Just pierce the semolina in the oven and make sure that it does not burn. Semolina will acquire a golden hue and will be very reminiscent of sand: both in appearance and in tactile sensations.

What to draw and how to use the sand table

You can draw anything- any plots, heroes of your favorite fairy tales and cartoons, plots of role-playing games, revive a fairy tale, do exercises to develop hand-eye coordination, etc.

You can write letters and words, or simply move your hands arbitrarily, getting an unforgettable sensory experience and even relaxing.

We have a table yet often . It is very convenient: the material does not spill out, grains and sand are securely hidden, everything is neat and clean 🙂 In a word, a sand drawing table is a must-have thing 🙂 for both children and parents.

I hope you liked our table 😉 Enjoy your creativity and sand painting!

With love,

I got the idea to make such a box of sand for drawing in kindergarten.

Option 1.

Option 2

Information taken

To make a box you will need:
1. Boards
2. Plywood
3. Acrylic plexiglass
4. Wooden decks

Initially, take boards and plywood, and build such a box as shown in the figure. It should be deep (7-10 cm) so that the sand does not spill out, but at the same time it is easy to draw.

Then step back from the two edges, the same number of centimeters and nail the planks. You have a place to store the necessary attributes. Here you can store cereals, pebbles that you may need in order for your child to develop. The next step you need to make a slot at the bottom of the box - this is necessary in order to later insert plexiglass - a place for lighting with a lamp. The size can be made as you wish, such as A3 - A2 paper size.

In order for the light table to be stable, you need to take decks of solid wood as legs. You can also color them according to your desire, for example, in blue and red - it's more fun.

Now you need to lay acrylic plexiglass in the slot at the bottom of the box. It is necessary to make it matte, for this, put a sheet of A1 format on the glass and fix it along all edges with adhesive tape or electrical tape.

If you did everything correctly, then you should get a table, as shown in the photo below. Nothing complicated, but the springboard for creativity is almost ready.

Now put a lamp under the table, turn it on and that's it. You have created a sand painting light table with your own hands!

Now you can start getting creative. It remains only to buy sand in a building materials store or take it directly from the sandbox, sift it through a sieve, rinse and bake it in the oven. You can also advise you to create on the light table not only with sand, but also with various cereals (semolina, for example). And to make the drawing original, you can use colored pebbles.

In order to create sand paintings, it is not necessary to have an art education.
Children especially like to paint with sand. The pliability of sand, its natural magic attracts children from the first minutes.

Sand painting is an immersion in a fairy tale, in a world of fantasy, bizarre images, winding lines. Touching the sand, you will feel its warmth, its fluidity, its movement.

Sand painting is a great way to relax. Immersion in a pleasant fluid state of calm creativity, contact with natural matter relieves stress, any tension, fears.

Creating a sand painting is a fascinating process, it affects all spheres of the senses, awakens creativity, relaxes and inspires at the same time. The soft color of natural shades, the contrast of sand and light, the smoothness of the contours and the powdered lines create Magic.

As a rule, purified sand is used, which is applied in thin layers to illuminated glass. You can draw anything with sand: landscapes and portraits, still lifes and abstractions. The main thing is to give free rein to the imagination and not be afraid to experiment.

Sand painting methods:

1. The first step is to invite the children to embody their ideas in the sand in the ways that they like best. And only after that, you can give specific tasks;
2. Sand can be leveled with both palms and fingers;
3. Hands can also work like a bulldozer, raking the sand around;
4. Fingers can make holes in the sand or draw on it;
5. Children relax very well by passing sand between their fingers;
6. At first, children can use the index finger, it is more convenient and familiar;
7. For the image of the sun, you can suggest using a cam;
8. To depict a wave in a drawing, you can use your hand;
9. In subsequent lessons, you can learn a new way of drawing with sand, by cutting off the excess.

All actions are performed with the fingers, however, stacks and brushes can be used as devices.
The technique helps to develop fine motor skills, which is especially useful for children (because the brain develops through the stimulation of the fingers)

This activity is especially recommended by experts for hyperactive and hyperexcitable children, because it helps to better understand their feelings and the feelings of other people, acquire the necessary social communication skills, and develop a positive attitude towards themselves and others.

When drawing with sand, a person, whether a child or an adult, uses both fingers and hands. Drawing develops subtle tactile perception, requires analysis and flexibility of thinking, develops imagination and reveals creativity. Absolutely everyone, both young and adults, will like this activity.

It's very interesting and exciting!!!

Option 3 - watch the video

And to show children’s ability to draw with sand, watch the video: “How to create such masterpieces using a light table for sand painting”:

Sand painting on special light tables has recently become very popular. This lesson has a lot of positive effects, even psychotherapeutic ones. But it turns out that it is not at all necessary to look for a special studio to try this kind of creativity: you can draw on a light table at home. We tell you how to make this miracle of technology in 5 minutes - and what children can do with the help of a light table.

My husband and I still fondly remember our own light tables that we built in middle school: mine was made from a piece of glass that lay on top of thick encyclopedia volumes, and with it I copied old documents. And my husband built himself a light table to make a cartoon. Today, a light table can be easily bought in a store, but it is expensive, and it takes up a lot of space. Well, then, it's interesting to assemble your own light table literally for a pittance.

I made a light table for my daughters from a transparent box that we used for sensory play. We also sprinkled salt on our light table. Why salt? Because when we draw on a layer of salt, where it is thinner, light breaks out from under it, and the drawing looks just magical. And when we don’t need the light table, we quickly take it apart and turn it back into a sensory box for playing with beans and a funnel.

You will need

  • Two large transparent drawers with transparent lids (these drawers are usually used to store things under the bed)
  • A garland of flashlights, a light cable, flashing or non-heating bulbs
  • white tissue paper
  • Paper tape 5 cm wide
  • transparent tape
  • Extension

Flat light table

These light tables are great for examining dry and flat objects. To make a flat table, remove the lid from the drawer and line the inside with white tissue paper. Glue the ends of the paper to the lid with transparent tape.

Put a New Year's garland of white, not colored, light bulbs in the box. Pull the end of the wire out and close the cover. If the lid doesn't fit snugly, no big deal. Plug the garland into an outlet, if necessary - through an extension cord.

On the box you can put bright plastic cups, glass rolled in the sea, transparent pieces of mosaic, transparent parts of the designer and other objects that transmit light.

Light table with high sides

This kind of light table is perfect for examining wet and non-holding materials. You will need two boxes without lids.

Turn one box upside down. Cut out a sheet of white paper to the appropriate size and cover the bottom of the drawer. Secure the paper with transparent or paper tape, and place the second box on top, this time in the correct way, without turning over. Secure the boxes with clear tape. Put a garland of light bulbs under the bottom drawer.

Light table games

fleeting collage. Give your child a variety of small things: a scattering of glass beads, pebbles, acorns, mosaic pieces, colored plastic cups or shells. Let the child lay out a pattern on a flat light table. By shifting and combining small objects, the child will explore the relationship of color, shape and texture and create unique patterns and compositions.

Salt games. Fill a high-sided light box with salt and have your child paint on it with their fingers. When the child understands how salt and light interact, you can offer him brushes and stamps. Children quickly master this game and can independently select objects for further research.

Keep in mind that salt tends to spread around the room, overcoming even the highest walls, so keep a broom or vacuum cleaner ready.

hydrogel balls. Fill the light table with high sides with soaked hydrogel balls - and the child will have a lot of fun and interesting sensations (this is one of our favorite activities with children). Initially, the hydrogel is sold as a filler for vases, so you can buy it at the art supply store, in the "Plants" section.

If the gel is already soaked, pour it into the light table and start the game. Dry hydrogel beads are about the size of a barley grain; soak them according to the manufacturer's instructions, and then pour them into a box that stands on the backlight. If your child likes to put small objects in his mouth, keep a close eye on him while playing.

I want to upset you, it’s impossible to make the same furniture for a 4-year-old and a teenager. now we need a bunch of all sorts of shelves-boxes for toys and a small table, we will need a table for school, and so on.

I have a linear kitchen on one side - a sink, a table 40 cm, a stove 50 cm and a table 80 cm, on the other side there is a refrigerator by the window, it fits well into the corner and close to it a small table.

You go to the passport office. Personally, the inspector explained to me that there can be no temporary and permanent registration in the same registration area (ie, in Moscow), so there can be no temporary registration in Moscow.

I usually don't have them on my desktop, simply because the table is usually littered. And I look at other people's children with pleasure 01/24/2013 05:40:10, __nevazhno___.

I put their own transparent protective coating / rug on the table, otherwise, of course, it will scratch / draw, smear, etc. In terms of the quality of reliability / stability, everything suits me for a year now :) But I finally dearly love most IKEA ZY products. Oh, and I forgot: on the left...

But in the second version, a piece of ice is drawn, lying on some surface, and it is written that the temperature is art. ice -79 Down arrows should show because it's cold. the air goes down ??, but the ice lies on something (maybe on the table?) And where is it to go down?

color the table for the child. Help. About his own, about a girl's. Discussion of questions about the life of a woman in the family, at work, relationships with men. I really want to draw something like that on them :) For example, my favorite cartoon characters.

Fascinating videos have appeared on the Internet of how people paint with sand, throwing it on a luminous table or, on the contrary, sweeping it with their fingers - with their whole palm, leaving marks on the sandy canvas. And usually he was accompanied by a colorful description that this miracle relieves stress, fears, worries, tension in adults and, most importantly, in children. Of course, it develops attention, memory, imagination in the child, trains fine motor skills of the hands, and, most importantly, it will be possible to travel to different countries, find out what grows there and who lives in them, play out fairy tales and stories - after all, this is ANIMATION.

So I decided to touch with my hands what sand animation is and draw not just on the sand (near a pond near Moscow), but with the sand itself, especially since my daughter’s birthday was approaching and I needed a gift from dad. But how to draw if there is no canvas.

We need a canvas... so let's make it ourselves.

To begin with, we need a sketch, otherwise how to understand what's what. We take a pen, pens, pencils, paints - we smear all this stuff on a clean sheet of paper. We wait a bit until the picture appears - voila.
We buy boards 100x25 or already planed 90x25 are sold (in my first case)
We divide the boards with a saw into pieces 600mm - 2pcs and 395mm - 2pcs

We grind (with a cutter) grooves in them for glass with a thickness of 6mm, since we have 4mm plexiglass, then we fill the voids
or glue or sealant - if you are going to disassemble the sand table in the future.
If there is no cutter at hand, then you can do without the grooves - nailing (gluing) the rails from below to put glass on them.

Mode for our size ... frosted plexiglass (smoky) 485x405 mm

For the legs we use slats 20x40 long, I chose 510 mm.

We collect all the received parts with furniture ties. Lubricate the seams with carpentry glue (sealant).

We insert all the details into the grooves, carefully glue them so that there are no gaps - after all, we will be dealing with sand.
We will regret this time and one day our apartment will turn into a sandbox and you will hear the crunch of sand
on the teeth during a delicious lunch.

Well, everything is assembled, we give our workpiece for painting. We are waiting for inspiration...

Or paint to make a camel, two-humped and fluffy

We open his eyes

We opened our eyes and ... voila - we have a table in front of us, but not easy, but animated, luminous,
with light bulbs, and by the way, do not forget to attach them from below.
I really wanted to replace the lamps with diodes, but it turned out that it was not as cheap as planned.

We connect all the light bulbs to the wire with the switch.

We fall asleep sand.

We check whether everything is connected correctly and in isolation.

It remains only to screw the legs.
And you can draw.

There is another plus in it, it can be used as a regular table, for example, for playing chess

Well, I lost again. That's why you're lucky in love.

Over time, a cover appeared for him

Good luck and creative search.

If you really want to tinker with sand, but don't want to mess around with making a table.
We will send to any city: courier delivery, Russian post
or at a personal meeting in Moscow.
If desired, you can replace the acrylic glass with a regular 4mm glass with a matte film.
