Summer residents know how difficult it is to get good carrot shoots. With normal sowing, they are often unfriendly. If you stick seeds on a tape, there is also no guarantee that they will all sprout at the same time. How to achieve high yield carrots?

seed germination

I start preparing seeds 2-4 days before sowing. For swelling, I soak them in warm water for 10-12 hours. I change the water 3-4 times, removing the floating ones. Then I drain the liquid, spread the swollen seeds thin layer on the fabric in the tray. I cover the top with a clean, damp, loose cloth.

For sprouting leave in a warm place at a temperature of 20-25 ° C. It is necessary to ensure that the seeds do not dry out, they must be moist all the time. But an excess of water is also undesirable - this makes it difficult for oxygen to enter. When roots appear, the need for moisture increases. The average duration of germination is 2-4 days. If you use an aquarium microcompressor at the same time, the seeds will be well mixed with air flow, germination will proceed more amicably.

Paste preparation

sprouted seeds(if for some reason you cannot plant them immediately) can be stored in the refrigerator in a damp state in plastic bag at a temperature of 1-4°C for two days, preventing them from freezing and drying. Such hardening also contributes to an increase in germination.

Sprouted seeds are sown in a paste prepared from potato starch. In 100 ml cold water I stir 30 g of potato starch. I pour 900 ml of boiling water into a liter container and add diluted starch to it in a thin stream with constant stirring. Then I place the container in a pot of boiling water, stirring, heat the paste almost to a boil. I cool, again stirring occasionally to prevent the formation of a film on the surface. If it does appear, then after cooling, I remove it.

It is necessary to prepare the paste no earlier than a day before sowing. The main requirement is that it should be without clots, homogeneous, viscous enough to keep the seeds in suspension.

Sowing carrot seeds

Immediately before sowing, I mix the seeds with a paste cooled to room temperature, distributing them evenly in the liquid. I do this very carefully so as not to damage the roots. Seeds should be in starch for no more than 6 hours, otherwise their germination is reduced.

I pour the paste into the pre-watered grooves in a thin stream of 250 ml per 1 m of the row. It is convenient to do this with a measuring cup with a "spout". Immediately after sowing, the furrows are covered with loose soil, the depth of seed placement is 1.5-2 cm. Until the emergence of seedlings, I keep the soil moist.

As a result, seedlings appear 5-7 days earlier, plants develop faster than when sown with dry seeds, and the yield increases. And if you cover the bed with a film, then the carrot grows 2-3 weeks earlier.

Today, buying seeds already glued to special tapes is not a problem. True, they are a little expensive, but the process of sowing seeds is significantly accelerated. You just need to lay the tapes in the grooves and fill them with earth.

We took a roll of toilet paper, carrot seeds, and for fertilizer - Agricola

Your well-being depends on how quickly you sow the seeds in the spring. After all, sowing has to be done when the weather is cold or rainy and you don’t want to spend extra time in the garden. And tapes will help you speed up this process.

Unrolled a roll on the table

Don't want to buy, you can make the ribbons yourself. To do this, you will need seeds, paste and ... toilet paper. Just stick the seeds on the toilet paper with a paste.

Match measured the distance between the drops of paste

Paste recipe
A paste made of flour and starch adheres well both to paper and to drying oil with paint, and only moisture quickly destroys it. What we need when sowing seeds in the ground.
Properly welded and filtered paste is not inferior in setting strength to modern adhesive compositions. You can use any flour to cook it. But the best wheat or coarse rye. To prepare it, it is better to use enameled or stainless steel dishes.

Put the paste on the length of the paper

Flour will need about 1/3 of the volume, and water 2/3. First, water is poured and brought to a boil, then flour is poured evenly, stirring constantly. The solution is brought to the density of a very thin dough. After that, they are removed from the fire and allowed to cool to about 30-40 C. After that, the paste is filtered through gauze and used for its intended purpose.

One carrot seed was applied to each drop of paste

How to improve the paste
To increase the beneficial effect of taking a paste, add a little ash or nitrophoska. Only fertilizers must first be properly crushed. Then diluted in a paste, stirring until the fertilizers are evenly dissolved. For 1 liter of solution, no more than 5 g of nitrophoska or 50 g of ash will go. You can (like us) add Agricola.

With a match, they drowned the seed deeper into the paste

How to store tapes
Ribbons with evenly sown seeds can be harvested in winter and, wound into rolls, left until spring sowing. You can sow the seeds both grains up and down: the paper will collapse very quickly under the influence of moisture and there will be no trace of it.

After the paste had dried, the paper was folded into a roll and placed in a dry place until spring.

Well, have you sat up without work, my dear gardeners? Today we will look at another way to prepare seeds for sowing, which will just help pass the evening, and not just one. Let's say right away: the lesson is quite monotonous, but useful.

So, let's get down to business. The essence of the work is gluing seeds on paper strips. We take old newspapers or a roll of toilet paper and mark a grid on them with square cells of a certain size, for example, 5 × 5 cm. At the intersection of the lines, we will stick the seeds. Of course, ordinary PVA or silicate glue is not suitable for this purpose. It is best to take a paste made from flour. For convenience, you can draw glue into a syringe without a needle, or use a match. A drop of glue, one seed on top - and you're done! It remains to dry the paper sheets and carefully roll them into a roll. Do not worry about safety - the seeds will hold firmly in their designated place until a certain hour.

Seeding on paper. What is it for?

Of course, to facilitate the work of the vegetable grower. For example, this method helps me a lot during the sowing of greenhouses. I only glue the seeds on narrow paper tapes. It is very inconvenient to bend down into the greenhouse and lay out the seeds one by one. And here - she made grooves, laid out the finished ribbons, sprinkled earth on top and that's it!

And this method is also good for super-early landings. While the rest of the gardeners are waiting for the ground to dry out, we can get ahead of them and sow lettuce or radish as soon as possible. We lay out sheets of paper with glued seeds on the bed prepared in the fall and sprinkle them a little with sand. When the seeds germinate, they can easily break through the thin paper. Only if the seeds are glued to a newspaper, then the bed should be slightly leveled and compacted with boards or shields before sowing.

One more thing advantage of sowing seeds on paper- seed savings. Seeds sprout together, and no additional thinning of seedlings is required. BUT thin paper for one summer season pereprevaet in the ground, turning into humus.

You can stick next to the seeds of different vegetable crops, such as radishes and carrots. We will choose radishes earlier, and carrots will grow until autumn. Such preparation of seeds for sowing, of course, is not applicable for large plots. But be sure to take note of this method. Would it come in handy?

Distance between seeds:

carrots, radishes - 5 cm

summer radish - 6 cm

winter radish - 13 cm

table beet - 8-10 cm

spinach - 3 cm

green onions - 3 cm

turnip onion - 5-8 cm

dill, parsley - 1 cm

How to cook paste

1 tablespoon of flour or potato starch should be stirred in a glass warm water and bring to a boil. You don't need to cook for a long time, but only so that the liquid thickens a little.

Sowing carrot seeds open ground traditional way in Lately loses its relevance. More and more like experienced summer residents, and beginners prefer the method in which the planting carrots on paper and only after that it is placed in the prepared furrows.

Thus, you can significantly facilitate your work by making the planting of carrots fast enough and, at the same time, greatly increasing the chances of good seed germination.

Benefits of sowing seeds on paper

Today, such an unconventional way of planting carrots as sowing seeds on toilet paper is becoming increasingly popular among summer residents. Some homeowners still prefer to plant this crop in a more familiar way by simply placing the kernels in the ground, but still the new unconventional method summer residents like it more.

Its popularity lies in a number of advantages, among which are the following amenities method:

  • preservation optimal humidity for a long time;
  • significant space savings for sowing;
  • excellent visibility quality seeds and defective material;
  • ease of care for the seeds in the first weeks after being placed on paper.

Also, even if immediately after planting the carrots in the open ground, there will be a lingering rain or a heavy downpour, he will not be able to wash off the seedlings that were placed in the ground on paper. Thus, this is .

Seed germination technology

You can buy ready-made paper tapes with seeds in a specialized store, but it will be much cheaper for the summer resident to place the carrot kernels on paper on their own. It is very easy to do this if you strictly adhere to a certain technology and take into account all the subtleties of the implementation of this responsible process.

A sufficient amount of dense polyethylene should be taken and several strips about 8 cm wide should be cut from it. Their length must be varied based on the amount of seed and the size of the area on which the strips with paper will be placed. In the event that several varieties of carrots are supposed to be placed, the name of each of them should be signed on polyethylene.

On top of the film, it is necessary to carefully lay out a three-layer toilet paper, which is recommended to be additionally moistened with a sprayer. Only after that it is allowed to spread the carrot seeds on the prepared paper tape, departing 1 cm from the lower and upper edges.

You also need to remember that the nucleoli should be laid out at a certain distance from each other so that in the future they do not get confused with each other.

After carrying out such simple manipulations, the paper should be carefully rolled up into a roll, which should be placed in a deep container so that the lower edge of the paper tape must be at the bottom. Pour a sufficient amount of water into the container and cover it with a film. Such a container with paper tape should be placed in warm place for 4 - 7 days.

After some time, the seedlings need to be checked, and if more than half of them have sprouted, they can be considered ready for transfer to open ground. If after a week a small number of seeds have hatched, then the procedure should be repeated.

Sowing carrots in open ground

When carrot seeds sprout, this will indicate that they are ready to be moved to open ground for personal plot. It is advisable to choose such a place for planting this crop on the site where cabbage, peas or beans grew last year. After them, the soil is the least depleted, respectively, the carrot kernels will get more nutrients.

The soil should be prepared in advance in such a way that the nucleoli sprout very amicably. It is recommended to dig up the land on the site in the fall so that it can rest. And in the spring, a few weeks before the expected date of planting carrots, you should walk well with a rake on the dug up soil.

The day before, it is necessary to take up the rake again, carefully fluffing the ground. After that, you need to make deep furrows, reaching about 4 cm in width, which must be filled warm water. In this case, the distance between each row should be at least 10 cm.

Next, you should carefully lay out the unfolded paper strips at the same depth along each furrow. It is very important that the carrot seeds face the soil. These simple steps in many ways contribute to the friendly seedlings of seeds in the future.

Then the seedlings need to be sprinkled with the remaining earth, be sure to cover them with black polyethylene, which has an excellent ability to retain heat. This material is recommended to be pressed tightly to the ground with stones or other heavy objects along the edges so that it is not blown away by strong gusts of wind. Such a simple manipulation will create the most optimal temperature regime for quick germination of carrots.

" Carrot

When the carrots planted in the garden will have good shoots, they need to be trimmed carefully.. This procedure is rather difficult, since by pulling one outlet, you can pull out several at once, including those that should have remained. In addition, the plants remaining after its implementation weaken and often do not reach the large sizes specified by the breeders. In this review, we will look at easy ways to sow carrots correctly so as not to thin out later.

Most the best way for planting carrots in this case - use of manual seeders like Klen-1 or SMK-5, which ensure the rapid penetration of seeds to a given depth, help to evenly and rarely distribute them on the ground in even rows, keep the seed undamaged and speed up the sowing process by 5-10 times. Their prices start from 2.5-3 thousand rubles.

If you don't have that kind of money it is quite possible to get by with improvised materials: sand, paste, special tape or a bag. The sowing process in this case will not be automated, but will greatly facilitate the progress of work. Read on to learn how to sow carrots so as not to thin out using these devices.

Sowing with sand

For planting, you need to take carrot seeds in a proportion of 1-2 tbsp. spoons and mix them with sand 0.5 buckets. Moisten the resulting mixture with water, leave for 10-15 minutes. During this time, make grooves. Pour evenly prepared mass into them, cover with soil, moisten. Of course, the method will not give a 100% result, but it will allow you to keep heat, moisture and nutrients in the ground.

With the help of a paste

In this case, it is necessary to pour a spoonful of wheat flour into a liter of water and boil for 5-7 minutes over low heat. Remove the mass from the gas, cool to 30 degrees. Pour seeds into it. Pour everything carefully into plastic bottle, then a thin layer into low grooves. Carrots planted using this method are different early term ripeness and juiciness.

Planting seeds in granules

This is the easiest way and does not require the use of any devices. Drained seed coated with nutrients, you can simply spread out along the groove at a distance of 5-7 cm from each other. At proper care shoots will appear in a friendly system, will not need thinning.

For carrots to really sprout, you need to choose seeds from trusted manufacturers. The most famous of them are Agrico and SeDek. As for plant varieties, the most popular are Vitamin 6, Nantes 4, Samson and some others.

Instead of a bag, you can take any breathable material. Only after placing it in the hole along with the seeds, do not forget where it lies.

With the help of the mouth

This method is no less unique than the previous one. Not every gardener will agree to resort to it, but still we will tell you what needs to be done: pour the seeds from the pack into a glass, pour a small amount of water and stir with a wooden stick. Take a liquid with seeds in your mouth and spit it out into pre-prepared grooves. Repeat this until the bed is planted. By the way, to this method Our grandparents also came running.

It is better to fill the seeds with clean boiled water, cooled to 30 degrees. In a hotter liquid, they may die.

How to plant with a strainer

This is another "grandmother's" method of sowing vegetables. For sowing, you need to take a strainer designed for brewing tea, pour seeds into it and, walking along the beds, pour them into the grooves. Sprinkle the grains with earth, moisten with a watering can.

Instead of a strainer, you can take a colander, a special salt shaker or a plastic bottle. The main thing is to make sure that the size of the holes in them correspond to the dimensions of the seeds, otherwise they will not be able to sow them.

Conclusion on Quick Ways to Plant Carrots Without Thinning

But if you want to do without thinning in the future, you can resort to tricks - try to use either manual seeder if you have large plot, or one of the available improvised materials described in the article. The simplest of them is the use of sand or granular seeds. Of course, in some cases, it will not be possible to do without additional costs and special training, but the waste is necessarily compensated for by the time that will be saved on thinning.
