Summer residents know how difficult it is to get good shoots of carrots. With normal sowing, they are often uncooperative. If you stick the seeds on the tape, there is also no guarantee that all will sprout at the same time. How to achieve high harvest carrots?

Germinating seeds

I start seed preparation 2-4 days before sowing. For swelling, I soak them in warm water for 10-12 hours. I change the water 3-4 times, removing the floating ones. Then I drain the liquid, spread the swollen seeds thin layer on the fabric in the tray. Cover with a clean, damp, loose cloth.

For germination I leave it in a warm place at a temperature of 20-25 ° C. It is necessary to ensure that the seeds do not dry out, they must be moist all the time. But an excess of water is also undesirable - it complicates the supply of oxygen. With the appearance of roots, the need for moisture increases. The average germination time is 2-4 days. If you use an aquarium microcompressor at the same time, the seeds will be well mixed by the air stream, germination will go more amicably.

Making the paste

Sprouted seeds (if for some reason you cannot plant them right away) can be stored in the refrigerator damp in plastic bag at a temperature of 1-4 ° C for two days, preventing them from freezing and drying out. This hardening also helps to increase germination.

I sow germinated seeds in a paste made from potato starch... In 100 ml cold water stir 30 g of potato starch. I pour 900 ml of boiling water into a liter container and add diluted starch into it in a thin stream with constant stirring. Then I place the container in a saucepan with boiling water, stirring it, heat the paste almost to a boil. I cool it, again stirring occasionally to prevent the formation of a film on the surface. If it does appear, then after cooling down, I remove it.

You need to prepare the paste not earlier than a day before sowing. The main requirement is that it should be without clots, homogeneous, viscous enough to keep the seeds in suspension.

Sowing carrot seeds

Immediately before sowing, I mix the seeds with paste cooled to room temperature, evenly distributing them in the liquid. I do this very carefully so as not to damage the roots. Seeds should be in starch for no more than 6 hours, otherwise their germination decreases.

I pour the paste into the pre-watered grooves in a thin stream of 250 ml per 1 m row. It is convenient to do this using a measuring cup with a "spout". Immediately after sowing, the grooves are covered with loose soil, the seeding depth is 1.5-2 cm. Until the emergence of shoots, I keep the soil moist.

As a result, seedlings appear 5-7 days earlier, plants develop faster than when sown with dry seeds, and the yield increases. And if you cover the bed with a film, then the carrot grows 2-3 weeks earlier.

Do I need to plant siderates in the garden and when is it better to plant? Do these crops enrich the soil and what about them ...

Today, buying seeds already glued to special tapes is not a problem. True, they are expensive, but the process of sowing seeds is significantly accelerated. You just need to put the ribbons in the grooves and cover them with earth.

We took a roll of toilet paper, carrot seeds, and Agricola for fertilization.

How quickly you sow the seeds in the spring also affects your well-being. After all, sowing has to be done when the weather is cold or inclement and you don't want to spend extra time in the garden. And tapes will help you speed up this process.

Unrolled the roll on the table

If you don't want to buy, you can make ribbons yourself. For this you need seeds, paste and ... toilet paper. Just glue the seeds onto toilet paper with paste.

The distance between the drops of paste was measured with a match

Paste recipe
A paste made of flour and starch adheres perfectly both on paper and on drying oil with paint, and only moisture quickly destroys it. What we need when sowing seeds in the ground.
Correctly welded and filtered paste is not inferior in adhesion strength of modern adhesives... You can use any flour to cook it. But best of all is wheat or coarsely ground rye. For its preparation it is better to use enamel or stainless steel dishes.

Apply paste to the length of the paper

Flour will be needed for about 1/3 of the volume, and 2/3 of water. First, water is poured and brought to a boil, then flour is added evenly, constantly stirring. The solution is brought to a thick, very thin dough. Then they are removed from the heat and allowed to cool to about 30-40 C. After that, the paste is filtered through cheesecloth and used as intended.

For each drop of paste, one carrot seed was applied

How to improve paste
To increase the beneficial effect of the intake, a little ash or nitrophosphate is added to the paste. Only fertilizers must first be properly crushed. Then they are diluted in a paste, stirring until the fertilizers are evenly dissolved. For 1 liter of solution, no more than 5 g of nitrophoska or 50 g of ash will go away. You can (like we) add Agricola.

We drowned the seed deeper into the paste with a match

How to store tapes
Straps with evenly sown seeds can be prepared in winter and rolled into rolls and left until spring sowing. It is possible to sow seeds both with grains up and down: the paper will collapse very quickly under the influence of moisture and there will be no trace of it.

After the paste has dried, the paper is rolled up and placed in a dry place until spring

Well, stayed out of work, my dear gardeners? Today we will consider another way to prepare seeds for sowing, which will just help while away the evening, and more than one. Let's say right away: the lesson is quite monotonous, but useful.

So let's get down to business. The essence of the work is gluing seeds onto paper strips. We take old newspapers or a roll of toilet paper and mark on them a grid with square cells of a certain size, for example, 5 × 5 cm. At the intersection of the lines, we will stick seeds. Of course, ordinary PVA or silicate glue is not suitable for this purpose. It is best to take a paste made from flour. For convenience, you can draw glue into a syringe without a needle, or use a match. A drop of glue, one seed on top - and you're done! It remains to dry the paper sheets and carefully roll them into a roll. Do not worry about safety - the seeds will firmly hold on to their assigned place until a certain hour.

Sowing on paper. Why is this done?

Of course, to facilitate the work of the vegetable grower. For me, for example, this method helps a lot during seeding greenhouses. I only glue the seeds onto narrow paper strips. It is very inconvenient to bend over into the greenhouse and lay out the seeds one by one. And then - I made grooves, laid out the finished tapes, sprinkled it with earth on top and that's it!

It's also good for super early landings. While the rest of the gardeners are waiting for the earth to dry out, we can get ahead of them and sow lettuce or radish at the earliest possible date. Lay out sheets of paper with glued seeds on a garden bed prepared in autumn and sprinkle them with sand a little. When the seeds germinate, they can easily break through the tissue paper. Only if the seeds are glued to the newspaper, then the garden bed should be slightly leveled and compacted with boards or shields before sowing.

One more thing the advantage of sowing seeds on paper - savings in seed. Seeds sprout amicably, with no additional seedling thinning required. AND thin paper during one summer season repromes in the ground, turning into humus.

You can stick the seeds of different vegetable crops side by side, for example, radishes and carrots. We will choose the radish earlier, and the carrots will grow until autumn. Such preparation of seeds for sowing, of course, is not applicable for large areas. But be sure to take note of this method. What if it comes in handy?

Distance between seeds:

carrots, radishes - 5 cm

summer radish - 6 cm

winter radish - 13 cm

beetroot - 8-10 cm

spinach - 3 cm

onions on greens - 3 cm

onions per turnip - 5-8 cm

dill, parsley - 1 cm

How to cook paste

1 tablespoon flour or potato starch should be stirred in a glass warm water and bring to a boil. It is not necessary to cook for a long time, but only so that the liquid thickens a little.

Sowing carrot seeds in open ground the traditional way in recent times loses its relevance. More like experienced summer residents, and beginners prefer the method in which there is planting carrots on paper and only after that it is placed in the prepared furrows.

Thus, you can significantly facilitate your work by making planting carrots fast enough and, at the same time, greatly increasing the chances of good seed germination.

Benefits of sowing seeds on paper

Today, such an unconventional way of planting carrots as sowing seeds on toilet paper is gaining more and more popularity among summer residents. Some backyard owners still prefer to plant this crop in a more familiar way, by simply placing the nucleoli in the ground, but still new unconventional method summer residents like it more.

Its popularity lies in a number of advantages, among which are the following amenities method:

  • preservation optimal humidity for a long time;
  • significant savings in space for sowing;
  • excellent visibility quality seeds and defective material;
  • ease of seed care in the first weeks after placing on paper.

Also, even if immediately after planting carrots in the open ground there is a prolonged rain or heavy downpour, it will not be able to wash off the seedlings that were placed in the ground on paper. So it is.

Seed germination technology

You can buy ready-made paper ribbons with seeds in a specialized store, but it will be much cheaper for a summer resident to place carrot kernels on paper on his own. It is very easy to do this if you strictly adhere to a certain technology and take into account all the subtleties of the implementation of this responsible process.

You should take a sufficient amount of dense polyethylene and cut several strips from it with a width of about 8 cm. Their length must be varied based on the amount of seed and the size of the area on which the strips with paper will be placed. In the event that it is supposed to place several varieties of carrots, the name of each of them should be signed on the polyethylene.

On top of the film, it is necessary to carefully lay out three-layer toilet paper, which is recommended to be additionally moistened with a sprayer. Only after that it is allowed to lay out the carrot seeds on the prepared paper tape, stepping back 1 cm from the bottom and top edges.

You also need to remember that the nucleoli should be laid out at some distance from each other, so that in the future they do not get confused with each other.

After carrying out such simple manipulations, the paper should be carefully rolled into a roll, which should be placed in a deep container in such a way that the lower edge of the paper tape must be at the bottom. Pour enough water into the container and cover it with foil. This container with paper tape should be placed in warm place for 4 - 7 days.

After a while, the seedlings need to be checked and if more than half of them have sprouted, they can be considered ready for transfer to open ground. If a small number of seeds hatch after a week, then the procedure should be repeated.

Sowing carrots in open ground

When the carrot seeds sprout, this will indicate their readiness to move into the open ground for personal plot... It is advisable to choose such a place for planting this culture on the site where cabbage, peas or beans grew last year. After them, the soil is least depleted, respectively, the carrot nucleoli will get more nutrients.

You should first prepare the soil in such a way that the nucleoli sprout very amicably. It is recommended to dig up the land on the site in the fall so that it can rest. And in the spring, a few weeks before the expected date of planting carrots, you should take a good rake over the dug soil.

The day before, it is necessary to take up the rake again, thoroughly plowing the ground. After that, you need to make deep grooves, reaching about 4 cm in width, which are imperative to fill warm water... In this case, the distance between each row should be at least 10 cm.

Next, you should carefully spread out unfolded paper strips along each furrow at the same depth. It is very important that the carrot seeds are facing the soil. Exactly such simple actions in many ways contribute to friendly seedlings in the future.

Then the seedlings need to be sprinkled with the remaining earth, be sure to cover them with black polyethylene, which has an excellent ability to retain heat. It is recommended to press this material tightly to the ground with stones or other heavy objects at the edges so that it is not blown away by strong gusts of wind. Such a simple manipulation will create the most optimal temperature regime for fast germination of carrots.

" Carrot

When the carrots planted in the garden have good shoots, they must be carefully thinned out... The procedure is quite difficult, since by pulling one outlet, you can pull out several at once, including those that should have remained. In addition, the plants remaining after it weaken and often do not reach the large sizes set by the breeders. In this review, we will look at easy ways on how to sow carrots correctly, so as not to thin out later.

Most the best way for planting carrots in this case - use of manual seeders like Klen-1 or SMK-5,which provide quick penetration of seeds to a given depth, help to evenly and rarely distribute them over the soil in even rows, keep the seed without damage and accelerate the sowing process by 5-10 times. Prices for them start from 2.5-3 thousand rubles.

If you don't have that kind of money, it is quite possible to do with the materials at hand: sand, paste, special tape or a bag... The sowing process in this case will not be automated, but will greatly facilitate the progress of work. Read on to learn how to sow carrots so as not to thin out using these devices.

Sowing with sand

For planting, you need to take carrot seeds in a proportion of 1-2 tbsp. spoons and mix them with sand 0.5 buckets. Moisten the resulting mixture with water, leave for 10-15 minutes... During this time, make the grooves. Pour the prepared mass evenly into them, cover with soil, moisten. Of course, the method will not give 100% of the result, but it will keep warm, moisture and nutrients in the ground.

With paste

In this case, you need to pour a spoonful of wheat flour into a liter of water and boil for 5-7 minutes over low heat. Remove the mass from the gas, cool to 30 degrees. Pour seeds into it. Pour everything carefully first into plastic bottle, then a thin layer into low grooves... Carrots planted using this method differ early date ripening and juiciness.

Planting seeds in granules

This is the easiest way and does not require the use of any tools. Nutrient-coated drained seeds, can be simply spread out along the groove at a distance of 5-7 cm from each other. When proper care seedlings will appear in a friendly formation, they will not need thinning.

For carrots to really sprout, you need to choose seeds from trusted manufacturers. The most famous of them are Agrico and SeDek. As for plant varieties, Vitamin 6, Nantes 4, Samson and some others are the most popular.

How to plant carrots with tape?

Toilet paper, special tape, lightweight paper up to 2 cm wide and the length of the whole bed are the materials at hand that can be used to plant carrots in this case. The seeds are applied to them using a paste made from water and starch... If desired, you can add a little fertilizer to the adhesive to provide the seeds with an influx of nutrients.

You need to plant carrots on a tape like this: apply paste on the strips pointwise (the gap should be more than 2 cm). Then put carrot seeds on them. Make furrows on the bed and place the ribbons in them, cover with earth and moisten. Seedlings in this case will appear in about 7-10 days..

Today, ready-made tapes with carrot seeds of the baby F1, vitamin 6, queen of autumn and so on are on sale. Prices for them start at 24 rubles.

In a bag

This is one of the most original ways landing vegetable crops. You need to do it like this: in winter, place the seeds in a canvas or linen bag, in the spring, transfer them without removing them to small pit... After 2-3 weeks sprouts will appear, which can be mixed with sand and moved to open ground.

Cover the bed with foil so that the carrots do not die due to night frosts and rise well. The tuber grown according to this method is quite large, juicy, early (harvest will be in mid or early summer). It is saturated big amount useful elements and can be stored for a long time.

Any breathable material can be used instead of a bag. Only after placing it in the hole along with the seeds, do not forget where it lies.

With the mouth

This method is no less unique than the previous one. Not every gardener will agree to resort to it, but still we will tell you what needs to be done: pour the seeds from the pack into a glass, add a little water and stir with a wooden stick. Pour liquid with seeds into your mouth and spit it out into the prepared grooves. So repeat until the bed is planted. By the way, to this method our grandparents also came running.

It is better to fill the seeds with clean boiled water, cooled to 30 degrees. They can die in hotter liquid.

How to plant with a strainer

This is another "grandmother's" method of sowing vegetables. For sowing, you must take a strainer designed for brewing tea, pour seeds into it and, walking along the bed, pour them into the grooves. Sprinkle the grains with earth, moisten with a watering can.

Instead of a strainer, you can use a colander, a special salt shaker, or a plastic bottle. The main thing is to make sure that the size of the holes in them corresponds to the dimensions of the seeds, otherwise it will not work to sow them.

Conclusion on quick ways to plant carrots without thinning

You can plant carrots simply by throwing their seeds into the grooves. But if you want to do without thinning in the future, you can resort to tricks - try to use either manual seederif you have large plot, or one of the available materials at hand, described in the article. The simplest of these is the use of sand or granular seeds. Of course, in some cases it will not be possible to do without additional costs and special training, but the waste is necessarily compensated for by the time that will be saved on thinning.
