How to make a frame for a lampshade with your own hands

The frame is a stable base, mainly consisting of two circles. Circles can be either different or of the same diameter; they are interconnected by vertical partitions. The length of the partition is the height of the lampshade.

To make cylindrical frame, you need to make two circles of the same diameter. If you need to make a classic frame for a luminaire, then the lower circle in it should be of a larger diameter than the upper one.

Rounded shape can be obtained if the partitions are not straight, but slightly curved. The classic frame will only benefit from this.

The shape of the frame will be interesting if there is a ring at the base and not at the top. It turns out that the concave partitions will be connected at the top at one point, and below they will be fixed at the same distance from each other.

For making a frame, it is best suited wire, since it can perfectly keep its shape, moreover, it is non-flammable. Suitable for work copper, aluminum or steel wire with a diameter of 2 mm.

DIY lamp types

After the renovation in the room, I really want to update not only the furniture, but also the accessories. These include light fixtures, chandeliers, floor lamps and table lamps. It is desirable that such a piece of furniture be an exclusive detail; it can be installed in a room on a coffee table or in a bedroom on a bedside table or on a dresser.

To get an exclusive model of a chandelier, you need to visit exhibitions handicrafts... If the model you like costs a lot of money, then you shouldn't be upset. You just need to apply your imagination, "turn on" your hands and head - then you can make an exclusive model with your own hands. Since a chandelier usually has not one, but several identical shades, it will take more time to make them than for one.

Modern lampshades can have very different shapes, decorate them to your liking. Preference is given to items decorated with colored beads.

If you want to upgrade your table lamp shade, then ideal option there will be cardboard. It must be strong, but thin, then the product will be completely different from others. The work is performed in the following sequence:

  1. 4 identical frames must be cut out of cardboard, similar to those into which photographs are inserted.
  2. A piece of fabric needs to be glued to each item on the back.
  3. In each product, on the side, you need to make holes at the same distance. A needle or an awl is suitable for this. With the help of laces, the details are sewn together, and you get a flashlight.

This method of creating a new lampshade is considered the simplest, besides, the product is very lightweight. Depending on the situation in the room, the color of the fabric with cardboard is also chosen. The decor of such a product can be anything.

Thread lampshade

A ball made of threads looks very impressive in the interior. To make it, you need patience and perseverance, and besides them:

  • thread or twine;
  • round inflatable ball;
  • PVA glue;
  • scissors.

The desktop needs to be covered with oilcloth or unnecessary newspapers, and only after that start to work.

  1. The balloon needs to be inflated and tied with a thread.
  2. We wrap the ball with the chosen thread. You can try different patterns, or you can just wind the thread around the ball without changing direction.
  3. The winding must be tight.
  4. Having reached required density, the thread can be cut.
  5. We carefully saturate the entire winding with glue. The better the thread is impregnated with glue, the stronger the lampshade will turn out after drying.
  6. When the glue is completely dry, the ball can be pierced with a needle and pulled out. Where the tail of the ball was, you need to cut a hole for the cartridge.

If, for some reason, you do not like the color of the resulting product, you can repaint it in another, using paint in spray cans.

The finished twine lampshade can be varnished, decorate with beads or beads.

Lampshade made of paper

To prevent the paper from heating up and catching fire when the light is on, the lampshade should be quite large. Under such a lampshade, it is better to buy an economical light bulb that heats up less.

Many ideas for making a lamp shade for a paper floor lamp can be found on the Internet. Various colors are used, cut out different figures... The result is a unique creation that can decorate any room.

DIY fabric lampshade

To work you will need:

  • a piece of new fabric;
  • scissors;
  • tape measure or centimeter;
  • thread and needle;
  • pins;
  • textile glue or stapler.

Next, you need to choose an object for restoration: it can be an old table lamp or any other lamp that has been “living” with my grandmother for a long time. Think it over in detail appearance, which should be suitable for the already created interior of the room.

For example, you can make a new lamp shade plaid fabric... It is sewn onto a frame of a certain size. If the old lamp has a frame, then consider that half of the work has already been done. And if the lamp frame is missing, then this is not a disaster - you can do it yourself, there is nothing complicated about it. The checkered fabric lampshade is perfect for the country style.

How to make a lampshade for a floor lamp? A master class on making it can be found on the Internet.

To sew a lampshade onto a cylinder-shaped frame, you need to measure its circumference and height. On the fabric, make a pattern according to the dimensions obtained, then cut it out like a template.

For the cone, you need to make a blank from whatman paper. Try on what you cut out, cut off all unnecessary ones. If something does not work out, you need to redo it.

The fabric for the lampshade is attached to the cone, while placing the pattern or ornament correctly. To get a flat surface, the fabric must be stretched.

The fabric for the lampshade can be cotton or linen.

Lampshade for a lamp in a children's room

When the child is small, the lamp in the nursery is very relevant. You can always buy such a product, but to make it, you need not only time, but also imagination. It is advisable to make a lampshade for a lamp together with a child in order to develop his imagination. Since the plafond will stand in the children's room, you need to completely trust the child's taste.

Naturally, the child will want to see his favorite cartoon characters at the night light. You will need to work hard, and with it cut them out of paper or buy ready-made translations. You need to use the idea with a print on cotton.

For bedroom

If the bedroom is purely female, then a model would be an ideal option for a lampshade, tied with thread... The proposed version is knitted of white iris-type threads, which are used to knit napkins to decorate shelves or tables. You can choose a pattern for thin knitting needles, if it makes it easier for you.

For a classic frame, the napkin is not knitted from 3 air loops. The chain length should be slightly longer than the top ring of the frame. Then the lampshade is knitted in a circle, according to the pattern, like a napkin. It is possible that the height of the product will be greater than the length of the napkin, then it will be necessary to knit several rows more.

The finished product must be washed and be sure to starch so that after drying it has a certain shape.

White knitted lampshade can decorate with colored beads or colored ribbons- It all depends on your imagination.

In a creative experiment, the main thing is to choose the right shade of small decorative elements. When the style, color scheme and shape are correctly selected, even the simplest hand-made thing will look exquisite.

To make a DIY lampshade look neater and more beautiful, you need to paint a new dense wire frame first, and then carefully wrap it with cotton tape. Then the fabric of the stitched lampshade will not be damaged.

Ideas and master classes for making lampshades with your own hands for a floor lamp and a table lamp

And making it is not difficult at all, covering the fittings of the old lampshade with a fabric with a pattern you like or a piece of wallpaper left after repair.

The use of self-adhesive paper (with a protective film) to make the lampshade simplifies the "production" process. Such paper is sold both in rolls and in the form of separate sheets.

If self-adhesive paper is not available, self-adhesive transparent film can be dispensed with. It is especially effective for gluing the covering of wallpaper lampshades.

To make a new lampshade, you will need: self-adhesive paper with a protective film, a steel ruler, covering material, tape for trimming the edges, duct tape, universal glue, frame rings, clothespins.

How to make a lampshade pattern

The sizes of the lampshade are determined by the diameters of the large and small rings of the frame. The marking of the pattern for the covering is done as follows. First, a segment AB is drawn on a sheet of plain paper of a suitable format, the length of which is equal to the diameter of the lower ring. A perpendicular is restored from the center Z of this segment and point Y is marked on it - the height of the future lampshade. She is chosen at will. Then, through point Y, a segment CD is drawn parallel to AB, equal to the diameter of the upper ring.

The wrap pattern should be in the shape of a ring segment. To find its center, the segments AC and BD are extended. The point of their intersection will be the desired center X. From it, through the points A and C, the arcs of concentric circles are drawn with a compass.

The lines EG and HF that delimit a segment are the butted edges of the pattern. Their position is found as follows: the length of the segment AB is divided by the length of the segment AX, the quotient of the division is multiplied by 180 degrees. The resulting angle is plotted from the X center, halved relative to the XZ axis.

How to assemble a lampshade

Depending on the design of the lamp, the lampshade is attached to it by the lower or upper ring. For this, the corresponding lamp shade ring is connected by knitting needles with a sleeve that is put on the base of the cartridge.

Our lampshade does not have parts that hold the rings together and determine their relative position. This function is performed by the wrapping. Therefore, the rings must be attached exactly to its edges parallel to each other. The slightest inaccuracy - and the lampshade will warp. To prevent this from happening, before you finally assemble the lampshade, the rings must be carefully tried on.

1. Wrap the ring with adhesive tape, sticky side outward, so that its surface is as even and smooth as possible without wrinkles.

2. Delete protective film with self-adhesive paper and stick it onto the fabric.

Smooth the fabric to the paper.

3. Place the pattern on the fabric, align the edge and cut out the shade shade blank along the contours.

4. Roll the workpiece into the lampshade, insert and fasten the lower (larger) ring with clothespins.

Glue the edges of the workpiece from the inside.

5. Stick on the bottom ring and squeeze the adhesive joint with clothespins until the adhesive dries.

The same is done with the small (upper) ring.

In addition, fasten the glue seam from the inside with adhesive tape.

The upper and lower edges of the lampshade can be decorated with braid.

Today I will show you how you can breathe into old things new life... It's about a Soviet floor lamp. In truth, even in its best years, it was a completely ordinary and unremarkable lighting fixture.

How to restore an old floor lamp with your own hands

Of course, you could just cover it with white paint, but we are not looking for easy ways. We will radically change the design of the item. So, to restore the floor lamp we need:

1.Gold acrylic paint in a spray can;
2. polymer glue (I used DRAGON);
3. brush;
4. satin and gold braid (they can be purchased in stores specializing in the sale of fabrics and sewing accessories);
5. threads in the color of satin and a needle;
6.Gold acrylic paint for painting on fabric. They are made on the basis of an aqueous acrylic dispersion, so they do not stink either during painting or after drying. I recommend using Javana (Germany) or Decola (St. Petersburg) paints. Read the instructions carefully and follow all safety precautions during operation.

As a result, I spent $ 10 on materials for the restoration of the floor lamp. As for me, it is much cheaper than buying a new one.

With a leg from a floor lamp, everything is simple. We spray paint from a spray can in 2-3 layers.

How to make a DIY lampshade from fabric

In order for the paint to dry well and not drip down, take a break before applying each new layer for 15-20 minutes. Do not bring the can to the base of the floor lamp closer than 30 cm, otherwise the paint will lie unevenly. It is better to do this on the street or balcony, because the smell from the paint until it dries up will be sharp and unpleasant.

Then everything is a little more complicated. We lay out the atlas on the floor, put a lampshade on it in the center sideways. Carefully roll it, first in one direction, then in the other direction, at the same time we outline the contour of the future product. I did it with chalk because the fabric was dark, you can use a pencil. Cut out the resulting shape, leaving 2 cm on each side for allowances.

Then we proceed to painting. The pattern can also be pre-applied with a pencil or chalk. It is unlikely that it will be possible to completely block the color and texture of the fabric from the first time, so you will most likely have to apply the paint in 2 layers.

Well final stage floor lamp restoration - product assembly. A new fabric lampshade must be sewn with a seam forward with a needle and put on the old base, it is better to fix it from above and below with polymer glue. We carefully sew the braid on top. We attach the lampshade to the base. That's it, our restored floor lamp is ready.

Ideas and their implementation

Since we have already announced the materials suitable for the manufacture of lampshades and lampshades, let's start with paper.

Plafond with butterflies

For work we need:

  • white thin cardboard
  • thin twine or line
  • glue gun
  • wire for frame
  • utility knife or scissors
  • round nose pliers

Advice! Before starting work, decide on the size of the finished plafond. In our example, the diameter is 30 cm, which means that we need a piece of cardboard 90 cm long.

  1. We make a frame. Cut off a piece of wire 96-98 cm long. Roll the wire into a circle with a diameter of 30 cm and fix the ends with round-nose pliers.
  2. We cut 3 suspension elements from twine or fishing line. We measure the length of the pieces based on the height at which you plan to hang the lamp. We tie them to the wire in three places, evenly distributing the load.
  3. We draw butterflies of different sizes on cardboard and cut them out.
  4. We roll up the cardboard, glue the joint with a strip thick paper or stitching with a stapler.
  5. We fix the upper part on the wire. For this, you can use both glue and thin wire.
  6. The joints and cuts can be decorated with butterflies remaining after cutting.
    Look at what an elegant lamp we've got. It will fit perfectly into the nursery and the bedroom. You will see a special chic when you turn on the lamp and butterflies flutter along the walls.

Advice! Instead of butterflies, you can cut snowflakes, stars or flowers. Decide for yourself what you like best.

60s style

If you ask our grandmothers, they will certainly remember floor lamps with lampshades in the form of an inverted bucket, tied with colored threads. We can do exactly the same with our own hands.

We need:

  • frame for lampshade - 2 pcs.
  • decorative braid (3 colors, choose a combination according to your taste)
  • scissors
  • crochet hook

We start manufacturing.

  • We tie the first braid to the lower ring of the lampshade, leaving the tail at least 5 cm.
  • We pull it over the top ring with outside, we throw it over it and stretch it through the inner side of the lower ring. We alternate actions until the beginning of the next sector of the frame.
  • We fasten the first braid and use a braid of a different color. We knit it to the next sector, not forgetting to leave the tail on the first knot.
  • We do the same with the third sector, filling it with the remaining tape.
  • We stretch the ponytails along the bottom of the lampshade using a crochet hook.

Here is our shade from the distant 60s and is ready, it remains only to insert the cartridge and assemble the chandelier in any order.

Fringed braid

Another original idea for a do-it-yourself lampshade is also associated with braid, but not single-layer, but with fringe. What do we need for this?

Prepare:

  1. two metal hoops or use an embroidery hoop
  2. fringed braid
  3. line
  4. acrylic paint, the same color with tape
  5. glue gun
  6. scissors

Advice! Fringed braids are available from curtain and furniture stores.

  1. We paint the hoops or hoops with acrylic paint. If they are already covered with varnish or other paint, it is better to sand and grind them.
  2. We wait until the paint is completely dry, and make three marks on each lamp shade ring, placing them on equal distance apart.
  3. Cut three identical pieces of fishing line.
  4. We tie them to the smaller ring of the lampshade, leaving the upper ends with a margin, so that we can then tie them to the lamp cord.
  5. We measure the length of the fringe, subtract 2 cm from it, and tie the fishing line to the second ring for the resulting length. So we can get a cascade.
  6. We heat the glue gun and carefully glue the tape along the lower ring.
  7. We do the same with the upper ring, pulling it out of the lower one.

Advice! Note that hot glue can melt the line, so be careful not to apply it directly to the line. Drop the glue on the paper, let it cool slightly, and then apply to the fishing line.
