How to make a table for an old sewing machine. From an old sewing machine

We had legs from a SINGER sewing machine, while we adapted them as a base for a circular hand saw, but in the future we want to make a decorative table, and, as an option, use glass as a table top. We have glass - this is stalinite from some kind of truck (booth window).

For anyone interested, you can read about a circular saw. And we will go further and consider what options for tables you can make with your own hands and how they fit into the interior

This is what the sewing machine itself looks like. We had just such, only where did the machine itself go, I don’t remember - maybe it’s lying somewhere

Here is a table with a glass top. The legs are painted white to match the interior color.

In the photo below, the legs are not from a SINGER machine, but the principle is the same. They are painted in bronze. Also with glass top

Option with a wooden countertop in a modern interior

We have roughly the same glass with rounded corners.

And here both the table and the chair are taken from the legs from Singer. Another photo shows a table for gold.

Elongated version of the table with a solid wood top

Unusual use in the bathroom

Wooden countertop in a "wooden" interior

And this is some kind of design solution with a thick tabletop with two pairs of legs from a typewriter

A table for a garden or a gazebo. Agree, it's always nice to sit on wooden furniture, at a table made with your own hands, and even in the fresh air, enjoying a conversation and a cup of green tea, or something stronger.

And here is a combination of a log house made of rounded logs and a mini table with one leg)

And in conclusion - a computer tol. If you also put a generator on your paw, you can generate electricity and train muscles - this is for those who sit at the computer for a long time and move a little)))

This is just a small part of what you can

The metal patterned legs of the machine can be processed ideally with a sandblaster, sandpaper or special solutions (if there is rust), then painted in the desired color or varnished

Hello dear readers! Probably everyone remembers the old foot sewing machines of the world famous brand "Singer", at that time such a machine was especially popular with seamstresses, thanks to the bed with a footrest, which allowed significant savings on electricity, and was also famous for its ability to flawlessly sew even the thickest materials. But time does not stand still, and now, years later, the old foot-operated typewriter was replaced with a modern electric one. Someone simply disposed of foot machines, others disassembled and put them in the attic, but the third, the most resourceful ones, used it in everyday life. Well, what can be done from an old sewing machine will be discussed in this review.

1. Tables for cooking in the kitchen and dining tables from a Singer sewing machine.

The perfect solution for your home is a kitchen dining table with a chic wrought-iron base. The table top can be made of solid wood, as well as transparent or frosted glass. As for the base itself, you can simultaneously use two beds from identical sewing machines or separate one forged base, push the resulting parts closer to the edges of the tabletop, and between them fix a crossbar made of strong reinforcement, which will also serve as a footboard.

2. Dressing tables from an old sewing machine.

For the dressing table, you can leave the entire base entirely, i.e. not only a metal part, but also a wooden worktop with side drawers and a hinged lid. To make the table look more neat, all parts of the bed must be sanded and re-painted in a suitable color. And in the section with a hinged lid (where a sewing machine used to be hidden), place fabric-covered plywood boxes, and fix a mirror on the lid itself from the inside.

3. Desktop.

In order not to unnecessarily spend money on the purchase of a new desktop, you just need to make a table top out of wood and fix it on the base from the old typewriter. The result is a chic workplace with an excellent forged base, at such a table you want to do double work.

4. Table in the gazebo.

An excellent idea for a garden recreation area, such a table will significantly transform the entire gazebo as a whole, and if you also make a similar bench for it, as well as a barbecue, it will generally be difficult to tear your eyes off. The table looks at the same time expensive and soundly.

5. Small table.

Some houses have tables for small things (keys, cell phones, flower pots, photo frames) in the corridor or hallway, so why not replace the boring monotonous table with a more elegant one with an interesting metal base. Moreover, for its implementation, no special costs are required, subject to the availability of an old foot-operated machine. It is necessary to decide on the countertop (wood or glass), clean, paint the base, and, well, connect the base to the countertop.

6. Brazier from the base of the foot machine.

A great idea for those who like to fry a kebab, and most importantly - the chic base is already ready, all that remains is to order from the carpenter a cut of iron for the upper frying box, then weld all the parts with a welding machine, sand and paint, wait for the paint to dry out and go to fry the kebab.

7. Bench from the legs from the sewing machine.

An excellent solution is to create a base for a garden bench or chair from old sewing legs. Planks can be ordered from a carpenter, then all parts can be connected, as well as painted or varnished.

8. A flower bed from an old sewing machine.

It is easy to care for such a flower bed, you do not need to bend over to thin out plants or remove all weeds, and it is convenient to water.

9. Sink from a sewing machine bed.

Another fresh solution is the washbasin on the bed from the sewing machine. A bowl-shaped sink mounted on a wooden countertop looks especially beautiful. The result is a set with modern overtones and vintage bias, such contrasting things are now very popular.

10. Locker for jewelry.

A ready-made cabinet with various compartments and mirrors on the doors is fixed on the base.

11. Rack for bedspreads.

At night, the bedspreads removed from the bed can be carefully hung on a special rack, especially such a thing will be relevant in a children's room with several beds, so the kids will be accustomed to order. A box with bolted beams is installed on the base from the machine, on which linen or bedspreads are subsequently hung.

How to make a table from a base from a foot machine.

First you need to prepare the tabletop, you can order it from the carpenter or, if you know how to prepare it yourself. By the way, the countertop can also be ordered from the firms engaged in the manufacture of furniture, name the dimensions, choose a shade, and they will make an excellent countertop for you.

Further, if necessary, the legs should be sanded and painted in the desired color, after the paint has dried, you can start assembling all the parts, namely the base and countertops. We fasten the metal legs to the wooden tabletop with screws. That's it, a great table is ready!

Brazier with your own hands:

A brief description of the main characteristics of foreign sewing machines of the 50-80s of production that turned out to be in our country. And also a list of old models of Soviet-made sewing machines.

A separate review is given of old antique models of sewing machines of the Singer type, produced at the end of the 19th, beginning of the 20th century.
This material will come in handy when buying a used sewing machine.

Antique antique cars from Singer

Almost all models of old antique cars already produced on a mass scale had not only a standard appearance, but also a similar device. This is due to the fact that the patent for the production of this model of the sewing machine belonged to the firm Singer. And, despite the different names of the machines, for example Afrana (photo), all of them were produced in those days only under the Singer license.

Models of this kind of sewing machines have long worked out their resource and do not represent value as a sewing machine, as a production tool. Only lovers of the retro style of the now fashionable direction of interior design can be interested in them, and even then, if they are in such a satisfactory condition.

These machines have a shuttle of an outdated design. It was used in the first sewing machines.

Most often, such rare cars are in a very worn out condition and many of its components and mechanisms can no longer be repaired.

But, nevertheless, there are instances that work properly to this day. True, it should be noted that the quality of sewing on these machines is rather low and many modern fabrics do not even need to try to sew on it.

If you need more information or repair your typewriter then see Singer Antiques.

Sewing machine Italian company Borletti

The sewing machine of the Italian company Borletti is a rather rare sewing machine company for our country, but worthy of attention. Look at the photo, despite the release of this model in 1966, it looks quite modern. Plus she has a great fold-out table. In addition to the zigzag stitch, there are a number of other types of stitches. The choice of stitch is determined by the installed copier (plastic round inserts). Naturally, the machine has an electric drive, a good reliable pedal and a convenient and sturdy case for transportation or storage.

Chinese sewing machine Buterfly

This model of the sewing machine is practically no different from the Podolsk sewing machine. Performs just one line. The main difference is that the tail of the bobbin case is turned to the right.

The first models of sewing machines - Chaika 2

The Chaika sewing machine has not only many models, but also series. This photo shows Chaika - 2, one of the first series of this brand. She only sews two stitches - straight and zigzag. There are no curly lines. It is quite inconvenient to perform a bartack, since this machine does not have a special reverse lever. Nevertheless, the Chaika 2 sewing machine is more reliable and better assembled than the subsequent series.

Sewing machine Chaika 132

A more modern machine Chaika 132 already has a separate reverse lever, a convenient device for bobbin thread winding and a different appearance. The rest is not much different from the Chaika-2 sewing machine, since it also has no curly stitches, except for a zigzag.
Quite a good model among the varieties of sewing machines such as the Seagull.

Old sewing machine brands - Csepel

Csepel is a Hungarian sewing machine manufacturer.
This model Csepel - 30 is similar to the straight stitching machine of the PMZ plant. Unremarkable, regular vintage model.

Jaguar sewing machine

Mini Jaguar is a fairly common sewing machine model that performs a zigzag stitch. They appeared in our country in the early 90s and almost all of them have a lot of wear and tear.
There are a lot of shortcomings in this model of the machine. A miniature electric drive, a rather fragile pedal, and most importantly, many components and gears are made of plastic. Difficult to repair and customize.

Sewing machine from Adolf Knoch

The Knoch sewing machine was produced in Germany. German engineers are considered the founders of sewing machine design. Therefore, for a number of other reasons, German sewing machines are considered reliable and of high quality.
This model of Knoch sewing machine only sews one stitch. Despite the fact that it has a more modern look and a modern device for winding thread on a bobbin, it is quite simple and not very suitable for sewing modern knitted fabrics. The price of such a machine in perfect condition, fully equipped and efficient, ranges from 1,500 to 2,000 rubles.

Old sewing machine brands - Kohler

Another version of the German sewing machine. In the old days, such a technique cost as much as a car now, but in our time such old, morally and physically obsolete copies can only be of interest to a schoolgirl who performs tasks at home for labor lessons.

Kohler Zick-Zack sewing machine

This model by Kohler is already called Zick-Zack, since it is capable of performing not only a zigzag stitch, but also a number of other curly stitches.
Quite an interesting model of a sewing machine. Not only does it sew many stitches, it also has a number of unique thread tension and needle position (offset) settings.
Even the foot models of Kohler Zick-Zack sewing machines have a built-in light.
In a good working condition, the price of such a machine can reach 3 thousand rubles, but no more. Any old sewing machine, even in perfect condition, cannot be expensive. Morally and physically, they are so outdated that they may be of interest to people who are starting to learn to sew or who are very limited in their means. Give it to those in need, and your kindness will return to you with interest.

The Lada sewing machine is a very good machine. And this is due to the fact that it was produced only for export. The name Lada is a symbolic designation of the Chaika sewing machine series, produced for sale abroad.
Despite the fact that this particular model is quite old, it performs a zigzag stitch, has a built-in lamp and a number of other advantages.

Old Polish sewing machine brands - Lucznik

Lucznik or Luchnik is a brand of sewing machines manufactured in Poland. If you will be offered to buy such a machine for 1500 - 2000 rubles, you can safely buy it. She sews a zigzag stitch and a number of decorative stitches. It is possible to include two positions of the needle relative to the center (left, right). This is necessary when tuning a zipper. Very convenient removable table, etc.

Sewing machine Malva made in USSR

Malva is a complete analogue of the Chaika sewing machine. Performs two stitches - straight stitch and zigzag stitch.

Old sewing machine brands - Minerva

Minerva is a brand of sewing machines manufactured in Czechoslovakia. Reliable quality cars. This model of the machine (photo) in terms of capabilities and device is similar to the Podolsk, Singer straight-stitch sewing machines.

Sewing machine Naumann (Germany)

The Naumann sewing machine was manufactured in Germany. High quality stitching, reliable and durable machine. This model of Naumann sewing machine sews only one straight stitch.

Italian sewing machine Necchi

Necchi is an Italian company that has been producing sewing machines since 1924. This model of the Necchi sewing machine (photo) performs two types of stitching: straight and zigzag. A very interesting, original design, but in the event of a breakdown, it is almost impossible to find spare parts.

Radom - a brand of Polish sewing machines

This model of the Radom sewing machine resembles the Chaika 2 sewing machine in its capabilities and structure. But the build quality and reliability of the parts surpasses the Chaika, which makes the Radom more reliable and durable.

This Radom model also has a zigzag stitch, but its design is very outdated.

Veritas Rubina made in GDR

The sewing machine Veritas Rubina is a very good machine in every way. She has a modern look, electric drive, light. The lightweight plastic case makes it easy to carry. Sews many stitches, including buttonhole operation. Many interchangeable feet and a convenient reverse (bartack) lever. Quality stitching without gaps
The only drawback is that the country of the GDR that has been producing Veritas Rubina has long been gone, and it will be very difficult to find spare parts for it.

Models of old sewing machines - Singer

Of all the models of used sewing machines sold in our country, the Singer sewing machines, produced in the early 90s, can be especially distinguished. Reliable, high quality cars. All parts are made of metal, as evidenced by its weight. But there are also disadvantages. However, if the machine is fully equipped with paws, perfectly sews any fabrics, then you don’t need to know about them, especially if the price of the machine does not exceed a couple of thousand rubles.

Finnish old sewing machine models - Tikka

The Tikka sewing machine - Tikka was released in Finland. The quality of this model of the sewing machine is impeccable, as well as its beautiful appearance. This model of Tikka sewing machine sews only one straight stitch.

Old sewing machine models - Tula

Original sewing machine Tula full zigzag. There are many interesting original design solutions, but there are also disadvantages. If there is a choice between Tula and Chaika, then it is better to buy Chaika. The price for both used cars (Tula, Chaika) is the same, no more than 2.5 thousand rubles.

Sewing machine Union made in USSR

The Union-Union sewing machine is similar in appearance and design to the Podolsk sewing machine. Its only difference is that the Union series of sewing machines was intended for sale abroad.

The best sewing machine - Veritas

If you choose the best brand among the old models of household sewing machines, then you can safely call the company Veritas. Why exactly Veritas can be found in other articles on our site. In this article, we will only add that you can pay 3 thousand rubles for a Veritas sewing machine in good condition (even for such an outdated model).
See Used old sewing machines.

The sewing shuttle of such a machine rotates in a circle, which is rare even in modern expensive machines.

And for such a Veritas model, which is in perfect condition, as in this photo, you can pay five thousand rubles.

How to make a table from an old Singer sewing machine

Many people know how the Singer sewing machines appeared. What happens if the car breaks down or you have a newer model? You can sell it or give it to friends. But quite often she is simply forgotten, and she continues to gather dust in the corner. Many are taken to the garage, to the dacha or to scrap metal collection points. And here the history of the legendary cars can be finished.

But, the legacy of Isaac Merritt Singer has recently enjoyed tremendous success, and as a rare thing, it is of great interest to people with a creative approach: both specialists and just amateurs. Because there are a lot of ideas for using the already unnecessary legs from the typewriter.

And every time you can find something new and original. So do not rush to get rid of the "trash", you can always throw it out, but then it will be more difficult to find such a machine.

The sewing machine has a cast-iron bed, the machine is directly attached to it. The openwork cast-iron frame is graceful and attractive in appearance. It can perfectly fit into the interior, creating the comfort and harmony of the last century in the house.

So if you still have a similar machine, you are very lucky.

With a little time and imagination, there will be a new and interesting thing in your house. And what it can be, you choose. You can make a computer or dining table, a dressing table in the bedroom, or a flower stand on the balcony.

Before you start creating your masterpiece, the legs from the sewing machine must be prepared. Indeed, for many years of using it for its intended purpose, particles of dust, dirt and machine oil have accumulated on it. Therefore, before starting work, the bed must be thoroughly washed.

The legs can be painted any color you like. It is better to use paint on rust, because over the long years of their life they could lose their original appearance.

Dining table from an old Singer sewing machine

You can make a wonderful dining table out of a cast iron bed. Prepare and paint the legs, choose the color of the paint to your liking. The table top can be round, rectangular or square.

The table top can be decorated with mosaics. And if you have the ability to draw, decorate with an interesting pattern. Glass countertops will look no less original than wood ones. Sometimes during work, your own interesting ideas may appear, how else to decorate the future table. The main thing is to give your imagination to show itself in full force.

This is how very easily you can give new life to old things.

Painting a sewing machine near Zhostovo

Once an old Singer sewing machine, almost in working condition, “floated” into my grasping hands.

Original ideas for using an old sewing machine in interior decor

The performance of the sewing machine was restored by 95% by me, in about three days of persistent poking at the mechanical part, after which I began to sew perfectly. The only thing that didn’t suit me was its appearance: the stand was dry and loose on all its spike joints, the paint on the body was chipped off and wiped off in many places, the chrome parts were scratched.

This is how the Singer sewing machine looked like before my creative intervention (mechanics removed). There is a certain angular-monogrammed Art Nouveau ornament all over the building. In general, the ornament is built in "Ra-symbolism": the sun, the sphinx, lotuses, wings - stylized in the Egyptian style.

I thought just a little, about a month or two, and decided to give my Singer a look worthy of his status.

Preparation for painting was difficult and time-consuming. I immediately gave the stand to my familiar carpenters, who immediately broke it, sanded it with high quality and reassembled it. It turned out that the stand was made of mahogany, nothing else. I planned to simply paint the stand in a darker color, tint it with stain, however, when I covered the wood with one layer of varnish, I realized that the color was already perfect without toning.

The machine itself had to be scraped for a long time to bare metal. All the old paint, along with the primer, had to be removed. Several types of sandpaper, knives and an awl for the most microscopic parts and holes were used.

When the metal was completely free of paint, I wiped it with acetone and applied two coats of automotive acrylic primer from a spray can. Each layer of soil was lightly smoothed with fine sandpaper very carefully. In the next photo, the body of the machine and all its other parts are already covered with soil. In order not to splatter chrome-plated and other parts that do not require painting, I sealed them partially with masking tape, partially with electrical tape.

It is best to paint on metal, even on a primer, with oil paints, and not on turpentine, but on a tee: oil, turpentine, varnish. Stylistically, the traditional Zhostovo painting on trays was the most suitable for the surface and character of the product, where the lush buds of a flower bouquet seem to emerge from a dark background.

The first run of painting was unsuccessful. In the next photo, the original underpainting, which was washed off the next day, because it is not what I wanted.

But this is what you need.

And almost the same flower ornament on the stand, but with some differences.

Gilding has already been added to the painting on the stand. Zhostovo, although he uses gold in painting, but not in such quantities that I used. By the way, my gold is gold powder mixed with acrylic varnish. Let's add gold decorations to the ornament on the case.

Close-up:

After complete drying, the painting machine was covered with three layers of automotive acrylic lacquer of the same series as the primer. Each layer of varnish, except for the last one, was carefully cleaned with zero emery paper ("zero") in the presence of water (wet sandpaper).

The stand is covered with PF varnish in a standard way for wood.

The photos show a brand new Singer assembly. As if it came off the assembly line this morning.

Well, actually, that's it. My Singer sewing machine is painted with imitation of the Zhostovo style. The program is 100 percent complete. The result, to be honest, exceeded my expectations.

What is the future of the sewing machine?

I don’t know yet, but most likely I will.

Master Classes »Various Master Classes and Crafts

I remember that as a child, my grandmother had a special table in the house - a Singer sewing machine. It was wooden on top, and a sewing machine was folded upside down under the tabletop, plus two fishnet legs made of cast iron, a wheel on the side and a wide pedal at the bottom ... For the first time I learned to sew on such a machine. It was then that electrical units appeared - more compact and modern, and, alas, no one needed such tables.

However, do not rush to throw such a rarity in the trash. A little time and imagination - and an old table from under a sewing machine can be transformed into rather unusual interior items. Here are some interesting ideas for inspiration.

1. The simplest thing that can come out of the cast iron base of an old sewing machine is a great dining table. The heavy, ornate frame will withstand even a fairly wide tabletop. It's great to get the whole family together at one table and remember what happened before ...

2. A modern table for a computer or laptop is also quite a worthy metamorphosis for such a table. The so-called eclecticism. If you use a glass tabletop, then such a table will even fit into a high-tech interior.

3. Just a few touches - and you've got a pretty solid writing desk for creative people.

4. Perhaps the most elegant idea is the dressing table. A mirror can be placed on the hinged lid, and drawers to store cosmetics and all sorts of little things.

5. Washbasin from an old sewing machine in the bathroom or in the country? Incredible idea! But it is very original.

6. Replacing the countertop instantly reshapes the old relic. This coffee table in the living room is simply unrecognizable!

7. See how these openwork legs from a Singer machine look good in vintage or shabby chic interiors. I would love to turn Grandma's old table into such a console for a vase of flowers. You just need to replace the table top and repaint the cast iron legs.

Do you know how many options for spectacular vintage furniture can be made from the base of an antique sewing machine? We answer: a lot! But we chose the most interesting of them, since a table is an item that is needed in any home. On the other hand, a table made from an old sewing machine is the simplest vintage furniture you can make yourself.

So. we need a very old sewing machine with a pedal: Singer, Pfaff, Husqvarna and even Soviet era models. What unites them is the main thing that we need - a luxurious cast-iron base (legs), genuine vintage. The state does not matter, even a rusty one will do (if it is exactly that - buy paint for metal "directly on the rust" and bring the base in a neat look).

The rest is extremely simple. Remove the wooden part or just the typewriter, and attach on top what will become the table top. And they can be different - depending on your preferences for materials and table size.

We looked at a ton of options for tables made from base-legs from an old sewing machine and figured out what you can do: a console table, serving or dining table, a table for a home office or garden. The best examples for inspiration are collected in this gallery - 45 table ideas from an old sewing machine.

We wish you good luck and make your Dream of vintage home furnishings come true!

This is what an antique sewing machine might look like. Do you have one? Maybe someone from your friends or relatives? When you see what wonderful vintage tables you can make from it, go in search of it urgently. console tables from an old sewing machine:

From the base of the sewing machine, you can make an original console table. Since this is the easiest thing to do, it is with this table that we start. As you know, a console table is a very compact version of the table that will fit in almost any corner that will be transformed by such elegant vintage furniture. And on top you can place the necessary little things or just - pleasing to the eye.

Place a sheet of glass on top for a great addition to a classic living room. A worktop made from raw wood or planks will help create a rustic country-style side table. Paint the legs white for an adorable vintage console. A black table with wrought iron legs will complete the interior in Moroccan style.

However, it is not necessary to put it in the living room. Complement the unusual base with wooden bumpers or glass in a shabby frame - get a cute flower table, appropriate both in the greenhouse and in the hallway. In addition, from the base of the sewing machine, you can make a luxurious showcase for your collection (the easiest option is to fix it on top ... an aquarium turned upside down).

serving tables and kitchen islands from the base of the sewing machine:

Your home is undoubtedly worthy of the finest and most exclusive furnishings. Including - in the kitchen or in the dining room. How about a serving table from the same old sewing machine? Add wooden skirting boards or a roomy wooden tray on top, attach the casters and enjoy your new handy kitchen fixture. However, such a table does not have to be mobile - it will be useful as a kitchen island, and for storing dishes, and as a mini-bar in the dining room.

dining tables from old sewing machines:

The sturdy cast iron base of the sewing machine is the perfect base for a dining table. She is stable and effective. The compact tabletop is slightly larger than that of the typewriter - an ideal option for a table for two in a small kitchen. The dark wood table top will make this table look classic. If you plan to combine it with modern furniture, paint the countertop white or black. However, the countertop does not have to be wooden - it can be made of glass or, which is especially luxurious, of marble.
