(19 estimates, average: 4,11 out of 5)

With the help of evergreens conifers you can decorate and refine a personal plot or a flower bed near a residential building. This dignity of conifers has been known for a long time, and therefore evergreen decorations different kinds so relevant. The beauty and originality of such green spaces is preserved throughout the year. This applies to both coniferous compositions and a single tree.

Most varieties of conifers perfectly tolerate lack of sunlight and have a well-developed root system which allows plants long time do without watering. Some varieties of conifers take root well and thrive on dry and stony soils.

The bulk of conifers and shrubs tolerates cutting perfectly. Some of the species of coniferous trees by nature have the correct geometric shape and do not need cutting and difficult maintenance.

The role of conifers in the landscape of the suburban area

Conifers can perform a wide variety of functions in landscape design... It can be:

The design of a garden with coniferous plants can be either purely decorative in nature or carry a functional load. In particular, with the help of juniper or thuja, you can create an excellent living fence that will hide the recreation area in the yard from prying eyes. For example, if you plant these shrubs very tightly next to each other, you get a great hedge.

With the help of a dwarf juniper, you can create low fence for playgrounds or flower beds large area... Such a fence will not obscure the view and will create a visual border. In addition, it will create a purely aesthetic frame effect.

Ephedra with an unusual crown shape or color can be used as single decorations for the site. Such a "soloist" is able to decorate a courtyard or garden all year round. The background for such a tree can be a gravel cover or a grassy lawn.

Composition from ornamental plants for landscape design, framing a path or fence has another name mixborder. This element is very popular among gardeners. To create a mixborder you can combine conifers with ground cover plants, flowers, lawn grass... If a mixborder is created near a garden path, it is best to create it from dwarf forms of plants, then it is possible to grasp the whole composition at once.

Such compositions are ready-made original and at the same time very attractive solution to create a courtyard landscape or suburban area... You can combine ephedra in the country with suitable deciduous plants.

Gives a good effect playing on contrasts of color and shape plants. You can combine thuja of a columnar and spherical shape and complete such a composition with a creeping juniper. Bright green color at the same time, it will harmonize with golden and deep dark green. This composition looks very attractive.

If simulate landscape composition right - the territory of your site will look very comfortable and harmonious. A complete picture of a coniferous garden can be created if you adhere to the following rules:

It is best to orient landings to the east or west,

Not recommended overload landscapes with an abundance of shapes and colors- this will create a sense of anxiety. It is best to limit yourself to two or three contrasting colors. Even in a fairly large area, it is better to limit yourself to alternating two shades and avoid chaos of all kinds of colors.

Creation of coniferous beds

With the help of conifers of various shapes and sizes, you can arrange flower beds in your backyard or summer cottage. The design of such a landscape will depend on the size of the site, the shape of the flower bed and, of course, the skill of the gardener.

Exists several varieties of conifer beds:

Alpine slide with conifers

With the help of decorative conifers of different colors and sizes, you can perfectly design and small bodies of water Location on... An ideal landscape design option can be a pond or stream lined with conifers.

  1. Spruce or pine has a spherical shape, western thuja, balsam fir or ephedra.
  2. The conical shape can be maintained in gray spruce, Lawson cypress, Serbian spruce or mountain pine.
  3. The cylindrical shape is inherent in the eastern thuja, berry yew, and virgin juniper.

Plants of various shapes can be combined in the country with creeping juniper species.

Coniferous bonsai

Bonsai Is a unique opportunity to take home your garden during the winter cold. These trees are grown in special containers and require a lot of time, effort and attention. Such a task is within the power of only experienced and patient gardeners.

The root system of such micro-conifers can be severely damaged in the harsh Russian winter. V summer time bonsai can decorate a garden and a personal plot, but for the winter it must be moved to a room with a temperature of 1 to 12 degrees. Be sure to follow the rules of winter watering of plants. Such painstaking work will be more than rewarded with a delightful and very aesthetic landscape of your summer house.

Advantages and disadvantages

All decorative conifers differ a number of undoubted advantages.

Conifers are the decoration of any garden.

They are good both on their own and in the company of other green neighbors.

If you want to entrust them with the main roles in the design of a summer cottage - read our tips.

Composing a coniferous garden

To implement such an exciting idea, conifers will be needed. different types, shapes, heights and even shades... It is the variety of textures that will allow you to "play" with interesting garden special effects and fully show your own imagination.

If the plot is located on a slope, it can be turned into a giant alpine slide. To do this, "stretch" the garden path from top to bottom, connecting any two objects - a house, a gazebo, a recreation area or a cozy bench.

If you want to make it loose - use crushed stone or fine gravel, securing the sidewalls wooden blocks treated with an antiseptic. I like jumping stairs - build a staircase from tiles natural stone... Arrange stones in random order on either side of this symbolic border, grouping large boulders and smaller ones.

Important: the foundation is not needed this time, because conifers are not "Alpines" and do not need "special training" for planting.

Having prepared the "disposition", plant a variety of conifers between the stones, placing them in such a way that tall plants do not obscure the "babies". Determining the choice of "candidates", give preference compact and slowbut growing forms conifers. Plant representatives of miniature creeping forms in such a way that over time they, "flowing" over the stones, form beautiful cascades.

Free spaces that remained after all carried out plantings, mulch with pebbles, gravel or crushed bark.

Decorative rock "Sea Harbor" (KEKKILÄ) - perfect option for decorating and mulching the soil. Reliably protects the surface from weeds, and the soil itself - from drying out.

Advice: so that the kindergarten always looks neat and does not cause much trouble, under filling be sure to lay geotextiles, it will help prevent weeds. Keep in mind that for such a "garden" you will need a lot of plants, but believe me, the result is worth it. We recommend paying attention to junipers(scaly, Chinese, Cossack and common), ate(prickly, gray, conic and "bird's nest"), thuja(western and spherical), pine mountain, cypress pea, yew berry.

Important: do not forget that in the spring "thorny pets" must be protected from bright sunlight.

Korean fir "Silberlok" ("BEST") - a dwarf variety of Korean fir, which was named "Silver Curls" for its special decorativeness, - has excellent frost resistance, loves sunny places and partial shade, but does not tolerate strong winter winds.

Ceramic figurines and decorative bark filling will be an excellent addition to the "coniferous garden", but about flowering plants it is better to forget - they will definitely not fit into this "interior".

The only exception is small "islets" of spring bulbous plants, which will revive the landscape at the very beginning of the season. Conifers get along well with hosts (in the foreground) and geykhers (in the center of the photo):

Options are possible

Garden "fantasies", in which conifers will become direct participants, can be very diverse. For example, a picturesque thuja hedge, which will perfectly cope with the role of a garden partition and help to effectively emphasize separate zones plot.

From miniature conifers, you can make a border to the garden path leading from the house to a gazebo or recreation area, and from creeping varieties of conifers - an alpine garden. In addition to the "main characters", you will need stones, gravel and flowering "Alpines" - to create color accents.

"Having played" with different kinds pine trees, create a miniature heather garden. It is based on heathers and ericas, but coniferous accents will play an important role here. Compose a charming forest corner right on the lawn or in the middle of a paved area, hiding it in a specially fenced-in module. For these purposes, you will need a spruce or pine, placed in the center of the composition, and a picturesque "rug" of wild lilies of the valley - a worthy background for a "green hedgehog".

I wanted something exotic - arrange a mushroom plantation on the site! For example, a corner for growing oyster mushrooms can be made very decorative by decorating it with driftwood, wild lilies of the valley and coniferous trees. And for a miniature alpine landscape, you will need several mountain pines different heights... Supplement them with Japanese spirea bushes and Erica and make a dump of white pebbles. Another option is also possible - to combine junipers and thuja and decorate the composition with large boulders.

We take care of all the rules

All conifers very disagreeablechoosy and do not need overprotection. That's why they are good. From time to time they should be fed, watered in extreme heat and very rarely cut off.

And not every plant is able to survive this attack. That is why there must be special shelters in the gardener's household, which will not be difficult to make. These are ordinary covers made of spunbond or lutrasil in the form of bags with ties at the bottom, but sewn to the size of a particular plant.

Before dressing up the green "fluffies" in spacious "caftans", drive in a stake next to each of the plants, "growing" a little taller than the ephedra itself. This is necessary so that the covers, sagging under the weight of the attacking snow, do not break the fragile tops. To hide low spherical conifers, use cucumber arches, set in a criss-cross over the crown.

Important: ordinary and blue spruce, pines and larch trees need shelter only for the first three years after planting. You can remove the protective “domes” only when the snow has completely melted.

Home plot country cottage or a garden house, it is customary to ennoble, landscaping with various plants. Gardening art has become very relevant in our time, and each property owner seeks to create a unique landscape design. Nowadays, every real estate owner has a desire to plant greenery on his site, but not everyone can do it right, because this is not an easy task that requires certain knowledge and imagination.

Any flower garden or flower bed will look incomplete without a coniferous composition, bright greenery that will please the eye all year round and decorate the personal plot. What to choose coniferous plantings for a personal plot and how to create a composition so that it harmoniously fits in and creates a beautiful landscape design? We will try to answer this question in our article.

Coniferous compositions in garden landscaping

In modern landscape design conifers began to be used as widely as deciduous ones. This popularity is due to the fact that ephedra look great in single or group compositions. All year round they make us happy with their juicy greens and a pleasant aroma. Gardeners loved them not only for beautiful view, but also for other advantages:

  • most coniferous varieties do not need sunlight, grow well in partial shade;
  • the root system can withstand a lack of moisture for a long time, they develop well on stony soils;
  • they cut well, from them you can create unique compositions thanks to the original haircut;
  • they are a source of useful phytoncides, which has a beneficial effect on the physical and psychological state;
  • conifers take root in a smoky urban environment;
  • cones growing on conifers attract birds, and fills any household plot with life all year round;
  • perform a windproof function.

Evergreens can add uniqueness and freshness to any area, they are beautiful in themselves, and also help to create unique compositions with many plants. With conifers you can create beautiful groups if you take them as a basis, they will always stand out and focus on themselves.

If you look closely at the photos of various compositions, you will notice that hedges and garden partitions are easily created from conifers, which will divide the site into zones.

Evergreen besides, the aesthetic effect is of great benefit the surrounding nature and people. They qualitatively absorb dust and noise, prevent some viruses, bacteria and insects from multiplying intensively, create a unique microclimate in the landscaping area.

How to use ephedra in landscaping?

Landscapers are familiar with the rules for using conifers in creating compositions in large and small areas. Most real estate owners cannot invite a specialist, so they are forced to independently embody their ideas and skills, using various information, landscape design photos. To create a composition correctly, you need adhere to the basic rules:

In the rules for creating a design, it is necessary to observe the correct color combination, since conifers have a great color range ... Among these rules, the following are distinguished:

  • you cannot use more than two in color in the composition of their three elements;
  • if the composition consists of three units, then there should be no more than three different in color;
  • if you plan to create a large composition, then it is better to divide it into groups of 3 elements, observing the rules of two shades.

It is advisable to think over the combination of elements in advance before buying plants and creating compositions in your garden. In addition, it is important to take into account the color of the conifers, when they become adults, the size of their crown. If you neglect such advice, then the integrity of the composition will be violated.

Which conifers to plant in the garden?

The variety of species of conifers and shrubs allows you to create, even in small areas, various compositions, original and unusual in beauty... Most often, the following are used in the design of the site:

Before planting them, you need to know which plants will grow nearby, because some of them do not look close or grow poorly. Here also has its own rules:

  • cypress does not like cold climatic conditions, it will grow poorly;
  • conifers do not like the neighborhood with larch;
  • it is better not to plant it close to spruce trees;
  • you should not plant cedar and pine, fir and spruce next to it.

All conifers are divided into three large groups, each of them has its own height, crown size, which is very important to consider so that a few years after planting the composition does not lose its attractiveness.

  • Tall
  • Medium height
  • Creeping varieties and shrubs

Tall conifers are not often used in landscape design, since they take up a lot of space in adjoining territory. This group of plants includes:

Many gardeners prefer medium-sized coniferous plants:

  • evergreen has a very attractive appearance, it grows slowly, which is liked by lovers of landscape design;
  • Yew berry, as you can see in the photo, looks wonderful on a green area, a fruiting shrub has beautiful needles;
  • Thuja is medium-sized looks like a spherical plant, it has densely spaced vertical branches;
  • Golden yew looks in the shape of a bowl, its needles are yellowish, it develops excellently in a shady area next to other conifers.

Creeping conifers occupy a special niche in landscape design, without them the site cannot look full, these include:

  • common spruce Lombres, its name does not correspond to reality, it looks very extraordinary in its beauty, its emerald needles densely spread along the ground;
  • thuja Timi Tini has a spherical shape and does not require frequent watering;
  • the Mountain Hampi pine is very popular in the creation of rock gardens; in the cold season, its buds turn red;
  • The miniature pug grows with a soft and fluffy pillow, which always looks nice against the general background.

Ideas for creating coniferous compositions

Coniferous hedges can be called classics in the design of sites, they create dense rows of evergreen plantings. It is necessary to select varieties that are convenient and easy to cut, giving the desired shape to the crown - pyramidal, spherical or columnar... For this, one variety of conifers is always selected.

The second option is with an emphasis on the element on the lawn, for this a variety with a fancy crown is selected and sits in the central part of the flower bed. They select medium and high varieties of evergreens, but it is desirable that the plant has a pronounced geometric shape - spherical, conical, weeping, they always look spectacular alone.

Another option is to plant group compositions; for this, varieties of the same shape and color are selected. Compositions that are different in color and shape also look very impressive, and this creates a contrast that attracts attention. Such plantings should always be thought out in advance, taking into account the size of the plants when they become adults.

In prefabricated compositions that called mixborders are used various plants... Here conifers play the main role and, against the background of other vegetation, always focus on themselves. Bright perennials should be planted next to them - rhododendrons, dwarf spireas, heathers, undersized barberries and others.

Conifers always take pride of place in any composition, for example, in rocky gardens only undersized, dwarf and creeping varieties are used.

It is believed that conifers are unpretentious, but in order for them to have an attractive appearance and pleasing to the eye, they need care. In hot weather, it is advisable to cover them from bright sunlight, and for the winter varieties that are not resistant to frost shelter from the cold... Healthy conifers will always be beautiful and will give you valuable phytoncides, oxygen, a unique aroma that you can inhale daily. Correct care will provide them long life, and your favorite garden will look lively and harmonious.

Coniferous flower bed: 12 solutions with schemes

Coniferous flower bed
The main conifers in garden compositions are not tall conifers (pines, spruces, fir), but their compact and undersized forms. Coniferous compositions go well with shrubs (rhododendrons, eriks, heathers, barberries, spireas, evergreen box trees), herbaceous perennials (hosts, ferns, cereals). When creating a flower bed, in the foreground it is necessary to plant ground cover plants (creeping tenacious, styloid phlox, sedums, thyme, bryozoan, etc.). Spring bright colors will bring bulbous (crocuses, muscari, undersized tulips). It is very important to think about the layout of the plants. Groups should be created according to the principle of contrast in shape and color. For example, columnar forms are well emphasized with spherical, densely bushy and creeping forms, with different types, texture and color of needles. The needle needles of junipers, spruces and pines go well with the scaly needles of thuja. When choosing plants, you should clarify them. maximum height... Coniferous compositions can only be made from slow-growing and dwarf varietal forms.

Decor element
In nature, adult conifers cast a large shadow. Therefore, for ornamental gardening, they specially bred low-growing varieties, only 3-4 meters high. They fit well into the landscape of the site. The background is a lawn and alpine slide... If the size of your site allows you to plant large-sized trees, remember: cedar and pine cannot be planted next to fir and Christmas trees. Larch generally does not like either one or the other. Thuja grows poorly next to spruce. Plant coniferous trees you need either alleys, or small homogeneous groups, or in the form of a hedge. An excellent complement to the composition of coniferous plants are stones - both large boulders and stones of a small fraction (marble chips, pebbles). They diversify the color scheme, help to change the proportions of the composition. Excellent material for decoration is the bark of conifers. In addition, bark is an excellent mulching material that protects the soil from moisture loss, improves its structure and prevents weeds from growing.

Pine is a striking representative of the forests of the northern hemisphere! Close representatives of the coniferous brotherhood and sisterhood: fir trees, junipers, yew larch, cypress, redwood and many others, about 560 species. Considering flowering plants, it is few, very few, there are significantly more of them, and at the same time the presence of conifers plays an important role both in nature as a whole and in human life.

Benefits of conifers

During the period of mass industrialization on Natural resources paid attention not as much as now, people of our time tend to touch healing properties nature, decorating your available space with conifers different breeds... Designers who are engaged in landscape decoration, amateur gardeners, and just owners of personal plots, you can still take home managers to them, well, these are strange people, who are friends of a person, appreciated them not for their beautiful appearance and healing aroma. But also for others beneficial features and benefits:

  • A huge number of conifers grow well in the shade and partial shade.
  • The roots feel great on different soils, both on the rocks and in the sand.
  • Perfectly lend themselves to modeling and trimming, haircut.
  • Useful phytoncides emit with their aroma.
  • Protect against strong winds and strengthens the soil.
  • They restrain the reproduction of some viruses, bacteria, and sometimes destroy harmful insects.

Conifers are very popular among landscape designers.

However, when choosing a plant, you need to rely not only on personal preferences, but to adhere to certain rules. So:

Three groups of conifers

High-growing

An example would be:

  • - how the hedge has proven itself remarkably, it grows up to 5 m.
  • Juniper Skyrocket - grows up to three meters, and even itself has a conical shape.
  • Hoopsie is a thorny spruce. One of the tallest representatives of high-growing, reaches 15 meters in height.

Medium-sized

There is a wide variety of conifers in this group. Most often used:

  • Thuja sredneroslaya - such a ball, the branches of which grow vertically.
  • Golden yew - grows well in the shade of other branches and conifers.
  • Yew berry is a fruiting shrub with beautiful needles.

Variety of conifers

Low-growing shrubs and creeping varieties

Cute plants, while the most affordable, and do not require constant maintenance.

  • Lombres is a spruce with emerald needles that spread along the ground.
  • The pug is a miniature type of ephedra, which has a soft and fluffy "pillow".

Neighborhood of conifers

  1. Thuja should not be planted near spruce. She will not let the thuja develop.
  2. Cedars and pines do not get along with firs and spruces.
  3. It is better not to grow larch with conifers of other species. Her relatives do not like it.
  4. Birch and bird cherry should not be planted next to coniferous plants. Deciduous trees will not tolerate such a neighborhood.

Arm yourself with the knowledge of growing conifers. Consider its adult height and the appearance of its blooming crown.

Color variations from coniferous plants should also be taken into account. For a pleasant and beautiful appearance conifers on the site, carefully study what the colors of your plants will be.

Are you going to use three plants (elements)? The color scheme can and should combine two colors: a bright spot is shaded by more neutral ones. A composition of several plants? Gamma of three colors. It is worth noting that conifers, which change the color of their needles depending on the season, are best planted separately.

But what if there are 25 or more elements planned on the site? There is a great option: to distribute the plants into groups of two, three or five and plant conifers of the same shade in each group.

Creation of compositional solutions

When planning a garden composition for personal plot, the landscape designer strives for harmony and, one might say, completeness. You can do it yourself in arranging a garden, following certain rules:

  1. Planting trees, shrubs is oriented to the east or west, but not to the north or south. This arrangement is desirable for conifers.
  2. Symmetry and asymmetry are one of the compositional components. When the shape of the crowns and the distance between plants are equal or close, symmetry. Natural naturalness, randomness of lines - asymmetry.
  3. Shrubs and trees look majestic against the backdrop of neat paths from decorative rubble in the middle of the lawn, on the slopes, near water bodies, among flowers and huge stones.

The combination of conifers with other vegetation

Rendering effects

When comparing tall and low plants that grow nearby, tall ones will seem much higher than they are and vice versa; shorter plants will be shorter than trees. So that the compositional solution does not create a sense of confusion, the comparison color solutions and forms are achieved by using combinations of the same type or even species of plants.

Geometry

The contrasting fit looks organic. For example, undersized ones are suitable for tall ones or tall ones, pyramidal shapes can be remarkably combined with spherical ones.

Spherical haircut of conifers

Ephedra are used in the design of mixborders, rockeries, living fences and hedges, etc. Let's dwell on a few.

Mixborders

What are mixborders? Translated from English "mixed border" or "mixed borders". Mixborder is a flower garden made of plants that are planted in multi-row and multi-tiered. So, to design a mixborder, first of all, prepare a place for the most large plants... This will be your starting point.

Keep in mind that seedlings are planted in descending order of their height in adulthood, so the shortest plants are planted at the foot of the border.

Don't be afraid to be wrong about geometry. curved lines will only enhance the slenderness of the trees and the beauty of the mixborder.

Hedge

With conifers, you can not only divide the site into completely different zones, but also create impenetrable jungle along the boundaries of the site. For this, the plants are planted in two or more rows in a tight checkerboard pattern. Varieties for hedges need to choose those that are easy and convenient to cut, give the desired shape to the crown. Choose one plant variety for each hedge.

Tui as a hedge

Rockery

What's this? This is a kind of garden on a gentle slope, in which stones, shrubs or plants are used dwarf breeds, flowers with tiny inflorescences. The most common styles in the design of rockeries are English, European, Japanese. Rockery in the English style is distinguished from another by restraint in compositional decisions. Basically, they use cereal plants, shrubs, wormwood plants, well, small conifers. In the European style, plants are planted inherent middle lane such as balsam fir, juniper, dwarf spruce, cypresses, barberry and boxwood. Japanese rockery is distinguished by an abundance of stone piles and minimal plant mass. Famous Japanese garden stones this is rockery.

A gentle slope is the main criterion for choosing a place for rockeries. A feature of any gently sloping garden is the ability for plants to grow in partial shade. Such a garden will be in harmony with nature, and most importantly, it will look beautiful near the gazebo or small pond... If your site with pronounced drops is on a slope, and you really want rockeries, in this case, levels are created that even out the drops.

Correct location and planting of conifers

  • Plan everything on paper, track sizes, plant heights, taking into account all sizes of rocks and plants as adults.
  • Select species of conifers
  • The most convenient period for planting plants is mid-spring, or even mid-April and early May. During this period, the seedling does not yet begin to actively grow and develop.
  • Mark the boundaries of the coniferous plot. Anything is suitable for this: pegs, wood, stones. In the middle of the flower bed, using marking ropes with pegs, indicate the boundaries of each plant and prepare indentations or large holes for them, at least half a meter deep.
  • Prepare the soil. It is advisable to mix the upper layers of the soil with peat and sand. The proportions are about a bucket of soil, a bucket of sand and half a bucket of peat. If there is soil available from under non-coniferous trees, then mix a bucket of such soil into the resulting mixture. This fertilizer is best for a newly planted tree.
  • Plant the plants. Pebbles or a sandy mixture of about 15 centimeters, fertilizer or compost (better compost) are poured into the bottom of the pit, half a bucket will be enough. If you add fertilizers, monitor the nitrogen content in it, as conifers are contraindicated nitrogen fertilizers... The root of the seedling must necessarily be with a clod of earth in which it began to grow. Do not knock down or throw out the soil from the root, otherwise you will kill the plant ahead of time. After loading the root into the pit, fill it with our prepared soil to surface level and level it well. It is not worth tamping strongly, the earth itself will sit down as much as it needs, but while it subsides, the roots will have time to get used to the new position, they will be saturated with moisture and air.
  • Cover the landing site with mulch. Mulching the soil in general useful process... Anything can be used as mulch: plant bark, small pebbles, cones, sawdust and chips, whatever your heart desires and that will look beautiful in your composition. Ground cover plants such as perennial creepers and flowers are even suitable.
  • Watering. Plays an important role in initial stages growth plentiful watering. During a drought, it is doubly useful.
  • Feed the seedlings regularly until the plants grow.

Conifers differ from other plants in their resistance. They calmly endure cold and heat, drought is also not as terrible for them as for other plants, and prolonged downpours only saturate the tree with moisture longer. Unlike other plants, conifers can protect themselves from various diseases. And the microclimate that conifers create near them can significantly reduce the number of insects. The air in the area becomes soft and oxygenated.

Coniferous care (video)

In general, creating your own garden using conifers gives an overall completeness to the entire composition. You yourself have created something big, long lasting and beautiful. In addition, you yourself planted a large spring next to you. fresh air, and in the presence of a gazebo in such a garden and a recreation area, which can be compared with a trip out of town. By creating coniferous gardens, you have touched the secrets of nature, subject to the strict order of the Creator.
