Plants with magical powers. Magic plants to attract money

Do you know that in flora there are a lot of "magic" plants? If you digress a little from everyday life and plunge into the world of fairy tales and fantasies, then in magical gardens you can find many magical herbs, enchanting plants, sacred trees ...

There is such a science - ethnobotany... She studies folk tales, legends and fairy tales about plants. A lot of interesting facts about "magic" plants can be found, and remembering the history of botany itself. What is there - any good gardener can tell a lot of funny stories about his pets. And fairy tales and wonderful stories - funny or scary - we all love. This is perfectly evidenced by the incredible success of J.K. Rowling's books about Harry Potter - a wizard boy who studies at the school of magic and encounters, among other things, magic plants there.
By the way, whole line plants near different nations and in a variety of cultures has an enduring reputation as "magic". They are regularly mentioned in fairy tales, songs, legends and traditions all over the world. And not under abstract, admitting different interpretations(like a "scarlet flower"), but under quite definite, real botanical names. What is so unusual about these plants, for which they got into a fairy tale?

Let's start with two plants that are highlighted in J.K. Rowling's book. Harry Potter got the most trouble from the rattlesnake willow... What made the writer include this plant in her book? What do we know about willow?

First of all, one recalls the “weeping” branches bent over the water, white fluffy balls of “willow”, and, perhaps, also baskets woven from willow twigs. However, among many peoples, willow was considered a "magic" tree and really had a bad reputation. She was associated with grief and loss of love, with infertility and impotence. Weeping willow shapes were symbols of sadness. Burning willow wood, according to legend, brought misfortune. In fairy tales, willow wood was the material from which magic wands were made.
Among the ancient Greeks, the willow was dedicated to the goddess of witchcraft Hecate. In Egypt, willow branches were burned at funeral pyres. But among the Romans, willow was considered a healing plant capable of warding off misfortune and misfortune - for this it was necessary to find a tree with a hollow trunk, stand inside it and pronounce the appropriate spells. However, ancient scientists paid attention to the more real healing properties of the tree. Dioscorides and Avicenna wrote about the medicinal properties of the bark and juice of this plant. Later, Paracelsus, Jerome Bock, Lonicerus and Mattioli recommended the bark of young willow branches collected in spring as a medicine. It was used externally as a remedy for calluses and warts, for hair growth, and internally for fever in malaria. Willow bark has even been called "European cinchona bark" for its antifebrile, antipyretic effect. Later, compounds were isolated from the bark of the willow, called salicylates, from the Latin name of the plant - Salix... One of these "magic" substances is now familiar to everyone - it is acetylsalicylic acid, aspirin.
In folk medicine, willow bark broth was also used to rinse the mouth and throat for inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract. Willow bark powder and decoction were used as a hemostatic, astringent and anthelmintic agent. Young shoots of willow were considered good remedy with scurvy.
Willow was highly appreciated by the Celts. In the Celtic horoscope, basket willow ( Salix viminali) covers the period from 1 to 10 March and from 3 to 12 December.
The fluffy balls of goat willow ( S.caprea) became in Russia a symbol of one of the most important holidays of the Christian calendar - Palm, and in our country - Palm Sunday, preceding Easter. It was customary to keep the willow branches consecrated in the church for a whole year - it was believed that they protect the house and its owners from troubles, illnesses and accidents.

And one more property of willow could be the reason for its frequent mention as magic plant- exceptional ability to vegetative propagation... In folklore it is said about the willow: "It was mowed, but it has grown again", "The willow grows out of a butt." Indeed, a cut willow twig, stuck in moist soil, will take root with almost one hundred percent probability. There are cases when wattle fences, woven from willow twigs, began to grow.

Another plant that gets a lot of attention in J. Rowling's book - perhaps the most famous of the magical, or the most "magical" of the known - mandrake.

Hogwarts students in herbalism class were engaged in transplanting mandrakes. To successfully perform this operation, they had to tightly close their ears with headphones, and only then proceed to the transplant: even a very small mandrake, pulled out of the ground, emitted a heartbreaking cry that could deprive a person of feelings for a long time. The cry of an "adult" plant is simply fatal ...

Mandrake was considered a miraculous, magical plant by almost all peoples familiar with it. This is primarily due to the unusual type of root system, which resembles a human figurine. Mandragora was called "jumping root", "root-man", "hanging man" and was used for medicinal and occult purposes.
Traditions and legends carefully guarded the mandrake from the encroachments of the "uninitiated". It was believed that a person should not touch the root with his bare hands. The one who violated the ban was threatened with a curse and early death. Therefore, the dog, tied to the plant by the tail, had to pull the root out of the ground. Mandragora at this time seemed to emit those very terrible screams. The rhizotomist (the hunter for the mandrake root) was supposed to cheer the dog up by blowing the horn. The root extracted from the earth had to be clothed in a velvet shirt and kept in a precious chest.

Mandrake brought wealth and fame to the lucky owner, relieved of diseases, helped women during childbirth, and also protected cattle from the evil eye of sorcerers. Her fame was so wide that there were even numerous skillful forgeries and falsifications, when the roots of completely different plants were given out for the mandrake.
Ancient Germans and Arabs believed in mandrake - small spirits, represented in the guise of beardless men living in these plants ... In France, mandrake was considered a plant of elves. Many peoples distinguished between "male" and "female" plants - their images can be found in ancient herbalists.
In Arabia, it was believed that the mandrake glows at night, for which it was called the "devil's candle" and was considered a plant of sorcerers and witches.
The ancient Romans and Egyptians attributed an aphrodisiac property to the roots and fruits of the mandrake. Pieces of mandrake root have been found in ancient Egyptian pyramids and are mentioned along with 700 other medicinal plants in the famous Ebers papyrus, which dates from 1700-1600. BC. Mandrake is also mentioned in the Bible.

Did not ignore amazing plant and the authors of a number of literary works from different times. The mandrake is spoken of in Homer's Odyssey, in Goethe's Faust, and in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The famous Italian writer and statesman Machiavelli wrote the comedy Mandragora, in which the root of a plant plays a dramatic role in the life of the people.

However, in addition to the "magical", mythical qualities, mandrake - a plant of the nightshade family - has quite real medicinal properties. No wonder the scientific name of one of the plant species - Mandragora officinarum- "medicinal". All parts of the plant contain the alkaloids hyoscyamine and scopolamine, which have analgesic and antispasmodic effects. Since ancient times, mandrake has been used for these purposes, as well as as a sleeping pill, as Hippocrates and Theophrastus wrote about. In folk medicine, tincture of mandrake root has been used for colic and stomach ulcers, asthma, hay fever and whooping cough.

But the fruit of the mandrake - spherical yellow or orange "apples", in contrast to the root, have earned themselves a notoriety as something extremely poisonous. Interestingly, by analogy with the mandrake, the fruits of another nightshade plant, eggplant, were also considered poisonous for a long time. They were called "mad" or "mad apples". It took several hundred years for this delicious vegetable to become widespread.
In total, 5-6 species of mandrake are known, growing in the Mediterranean, Western and Central Asia, in the Himalayas. On the territory of the former USSR, in Turkmenistan, at the foot of the Kopetdag, the Turkmen mandrake grows ( M. turcomanica).

A magical plant, often mentioned in all sorts of legends and tales, is considered the most ordinary nettle... She was associated with painful injections of love, and was also a symbol of a life full of despair and suffering. It was believed that only a young innocent girl could calmly pluck it off with her bare hands and not get burned. The Greeks considered nettle an aphrodisiac, it was a component of love drinks. Among the Slavs, nettle was considered a remedy against witches and mermaids. In the national calendar there was even a holiday - a mermaid spell, in which it was customary to whip each other with nettles to protect them from mermaids.

How medicinal plant nettle has been known since ancient times. It was used to treat gout, migraine, kidney and liver diseases, diabetes mellitus, dysentery, malaria, bronchitis and neuroses, to strengthen hair and for cosmetic purposes. Fresh nettle juice mixed with honey was used for heart disease, whooping cough, and colds. Due to its irritating effect on the skin, nettle was considered a good remedy for rheumatism.

In modern official medicine, nettle preparations are used for metabolic disorders, rheumatism, asthma, anemia, atherosclerosis, as an anti-fever and tonic. When using nettle, the walls of blood vessels are strengthened and blood clotting increases.

Perhaps the most famous tale that mentions nettles is Andersen's Wild Swans. Elsa, in order to save her brothers-princes, bewitched by an evil stepmother, had to weave their shirts from stalks of nettles.

Indeed, several centuries ago, before the widespread use of cotton, nettle was a common spinning plant. In the X century. from it they made canvases, ropes, sewed sails. A yellow dye was obtained from the roots of the nettle, and a green food coloring was obtained from the leaves.

Unusual, mysterious, seemed to our ancestors - the inhabitants of the temperate zone and all evergreens. And if such a plant grew high above the ground, on a tree, then it clearly had mysterious properties. Mistletoe, having such an unusual appearance, has attracted the attention of people since ancient times - many myths and legends are also associated with it *.
In Europe, mistletoe has been the object of superstitious worship since time immemorial. Mistletoe twigs, along with a four-leaf clover and a horseshoe, were considered universal talismans and charms that bring happiness and drive away evil spirits. Sorcerers and medicine men of the Middle Ages attributed to mistletoe the ability to protect against witchcraft, and also considered it a universal master key. In England, it was customary to give the cow after calving a sprig of mistletoe to protect her from witches, who, according to legend, spoil the milk. The peoples of Western Europe still hang the plucked branches of mistletoe from the ceiling at Christmas so that the year is successful.

Our ancestors and narcissus... We will not retell here the well-known legend about a Greek youth who fell in love with his own reflection ... In Islam, the narcissus serves as an emblem of unbending fidelity. In Persia, the daffodil was considered the flower of youth; in the East, this flower is a symbol of the new year, joy, good luck and a happy marriage.
Narcissus was also a symbol of promises - a young man in love presented his chosen one with a bouquet of white daffodils, exuding a divine aroma and evoking romantic fantasies. At the same time, the daffodil served as a symbolic image of a girl eliminating rivals. This is apparently due to the fact that narcissus flowers, placed in the same vase with other flowers, kill them. To avoid this, daffodils, before using them in bouquets with other plants, should be kept in a separate vessel with water for at least a day - until they release mucus.

Speaking of fabulous plants, one cannot help but focus on belladonna... She has many different names - belladonna, "sleepy stupor", "mad berry", "cherry trees", "cherry of madmen" and - among others - the romantic and sinister "mother queen of poisons". Belladonna is a relative of mandrake, as well as potatoes and tomatoes ... That is, everything belongs to the same "fatal" family of nightshades, which gave humanity the "second bread", and the strongest poisons, and food for the most unbridled fantasies. Belladonna's scientific name is Atropa belladonna- comes from the name of Atropa, one of the three moira - the Greek goddesses of fate. And "belladonna" in Italian means " a beautiful woman". At one time, women in Italy and Spain buried belladonna juice in their eyes, which led to the dilation of the pupil - the eyes became more expressive. In addition, the cheeks were rubbed with berry juice to give them a blush. This is how the fame of the plant that gives women beauty arose. Hence the Russian "belladonna".

Belladonna contains significant amounts of alkaloids and is highly toxic. It was the belladonna that was one of the first plants from which alkaloids (in particular, atropine) were isolated in 1838. At present, belladonna is cultivated for the industrial production of medicinal raw materials. Preparations based on its alkaloids are used as antispasmodic, analgesic, expectorant, sedatives.
However, in ancient times, the plant did not receive wide distribution in medicine - because of its strong toxicity. It is a different matter if it was necessary to prepare a poison ... In addition, due to its strong effect on the nervous system, belladonna in the Middle Ages was considered a magic herb and was part of witchcraft ointments and drinks. Warriors in Ancient Germany before battles drank belladonna infusion to give themselves a fighting spirit.

Belladonna alkaloids cause severe hallucinations and, in particular, the illusion of flight, which is why this plant was part of the famous "ointment of witches", the action of which was described in "The Master and Margarita" Mikhail Bulgakov. Of course, having smeared the body with even the best of magic ointments, it is unlikely that it will be possible to really get off the ground, but to experience a similar sensation ... In addition to belladonna berries, the drug also included other poisonous plants, the extract of which, prepared in a special way, could cause strong nervous excitement and the illusion of floating in the air - for example, hemlock (Conium maculatum). In addition to witchcraft ointments, this very poisonous plant of the umbrella family served as an integral part of love "lapel" potions or was simply used as a poison.

Herb was a traditional element of love potions. vervains (Verbena, this. Lipoids). The Druids believed that verbena can heal from all diseases, it was revered as sacred by the ancient Greeks and Romans. The Celts used it for spells and conspiracies. Christians called vervain "the grass of the cross", believing that it was watered with the blood of the crucified Savior. It was believed that verbena juice can help fulfill any desires, endow with the gift of clairvoyance, make them invulnerable against cold weapons, and is also an antidote against snake bites.

In addition to herbaceous, magical properties were attributed to woody plants... Magic wands and staves, amulets were made from their wood; crushed bark and crushed leaves were added to potions; used for divination and protection from evil spirits and smoke from burning wood. We have already talked about willow. From wood ash- "trees of the world" - made protective amulets... According to legend, the spear of the god of light, Odin, was made of ash.

The sacred tree of Perun, a symbol vitality was considered oak... He gave strength and bestowed wisdom. Magic staves, wands for protection from magic were also made of wood. hazel(hazel). Hazel was considered a tree that “thunder does not strike”, crosses made of it were considered protection from lightning strikes and protected from evil spirits.

The cactus has interesting properties. It can be useful to two categories of citizens:

    For young girls, for whom the abundance of gentlemen has already become a problem that requires immediate resolution. In this case, the thorny cactus will help in expelling unwanted "suitors".

    Calm people in need of additional energy supply and constant encouragement. Cactus needles do quite well with this function.

It is undesirable to use this flower for citizens with an explosive temperament or choleric people, since a prickly creature can only aggravate the situation.

A striking negative impact can have citrus plants, while they directly affect the physical condition of a person. They pose a danger to people with high blood pressure and impaired brain function. Any damage can lead to disastrous results, so if you need root shavings for some ceremony, you should mentally ask the plant for permission to use it. Only after receiving a positive answer can it be burned or inhaled. If a clear denial forms in your head, you should not start working with the root.

The burning procedure is carried out with a small candle or the plant is set on fire on paper. This is due to the fact that it burns very badly even when dried. Before burning the mandrake root, it is advisable not to eat meat and follow a light diet. Before performing the ritual, you must call protective forces... After completing the procedure, it is advisable to go to bed quickly, which contributes to the development of dreams.

    Datura ordinary is a very strong magical plant, so there are significant limitations when working with it. In no case should you contact a dope while intoxicated. Any alcohol abuse, even on the eve of the ceremony, can lead to negative consequences. If you even drank a little, it is better to give up magical actions with dope for today.

In terms of ingestion, the restrictions are similar to mandrake root. This magical plant also contains poisons that negatively affect the functioning of the brain, so it is advisable not to eat dope. Just burn the seeds, seed pods, dried stems and roots.

    Marsh wild rosemary- also contains alkaloids that are dangerous to human health, so it must be used with caution. Its other name is "marsh myrtle". It was customary to add it to beer in order to increase the intoxicating effect. Also in Russia, wild rosemary was burned to scare away mosquitoes.

Due to the toxic substances in the composition, the plant is practically not consumed inside, but very often they burn and fumigate the room with it. Another interesting property of wild rosemary is the ability to indicate the location of the treasure and heal from severe ailments. But for use in this direction, a rich magical work experience is required.

    Sagebrush- it whole genus plants, many of which are used in magic rituals... With the help of these specimens rich in natural alkaloids, you can significantly expand your clairvoyant abilities.

Usually wormwood is brewed and drunk or burned, inhaling the smoke. But do not overuse the frequency of these procedures. If you want to drive out hostile forces and find your true "I", then wormwood can help you with this.

    Salvia officinalis and Californian white sage Are two of the most harmless plants on our list. They are low in alkaloids and do not pose a health hazard when used in moderation.

Sage has a valuable property: it helps you tune in to work, sharpen your attention and brush aside unnecessary thoughts. The sage of diviners is endowed with completely different properties, showing a pronounced intoxicating effect, but its distribution is prohibited by law.

In general, representatives of this genus can be used as plants that soften the effect of the above-mentioned poisonous counterparts.

One of the oldest and effective methods witchcraft is magic herbs... Thousands of years ago, herbs were used by people for various purposes: for healing, for protection, to attract success.

The properties of some plants are still not fully known. Magicians claim that correctly collected witch plants have incredible energetic power.

They save a person from negativity, from negative emotions, help to restore strength and find joy in life.

Sometimes we don't even think about the effect of ordinary herbal tea on our body. Plants are used in witchcraft practice and as drinks, and decoctions, and powders, and ointments. The main thing is to know what herbs to use in one case or another, so as not to cause trouble.

The most powerful magical herbs and their properties

Let's figure out which herbs are considered the most powerful in magic circles:

  • Fern

This is a real treasure of useful properties. It's a shame that it blooms only once a year. The fern is a divine flower. Its connection to heaven is undeniable. The owner of this flower may not be afraid of attacks from evil forces or witchcraft attacks.

  • Loosestrife

This plant is known to many as Placun-herb. Her task is to ensure that all demons shed tears from the spreading scent and could not harm.

  • Immortelle

This plant can change the weather - you just have to learn how to ask her about it. He is also considered an essential assistant for those who dream of finding a treasure.

Ways to use herbs in magic

The important point is how you introduce this or that ingredient into the ceremony. Some of the most famous uses of magical plants are:

  • Decoctions and infusions

This is probably the simplest method that is available at any time and to everyone. Infusions are very diverse.

Some people prefer ordinary teas, while others create unique liquids. All have one goal - they carry an energy charge that performs a specific function.

There are even instructions for making special decoctions - they were developed over the years by our distant ancestors. Some herbs are thrown into the already boiled water, some are filled with water of a certain temperature.

To achieve the best quality of the broth, the plants are carefully crushed. This is necessary in order to use the healing components to the maximum. It is important to maintain the proportions during the preparation of the infusion or broth.

  • Fumigation

This method was very common in the olden days. For example, in order to cure a small child from fright or remove the induced damage from him, they laid bear down around him and lit him. To exterminate the unclean forces that settled in the house, it was customary to fumigate every corner with incense.

This is a great way to protect yourself from evil spirits and envious people. Together with the scent of the herb, its magical energy spreads around.

  • Butter

Now aroma oils can be purchased at any specialty store or ordered online. You can also make them yourself.

Take any oil as a basis natural origin(olive, coconut) and mix with all the required ingredients. Then the resulting mixture must be heated - this is necessary in order for all the components to combine better.

After filtering, your oil is completely ready for use. Wait for it to cool down and use it for everyday procedures (bathing, softening the skin).

  • Powder

This method is most often used by professional healers for their own protection. Agree that healers, magicians and sorcerers are in daily contact with both positive and negative energy- they just need to do regular cleansing.

Typically, herbal powders are taken internally. To make it, it is enough to grind magic herbs in a mortar.

  • Amulet

To make an amulet with magical herbs, you must place it in a small bag and, if possible, carry it with you (in your bag, pocket or purse). You can also use such a protective tool as a talisman for the home and all family members.

  • Talismans

This option is suitable for those who want to change their lives and attract something - love, money, luck. It is created according to the same type as the amulet, only with a different herbal composition.

  • Sachet

It is a small pillow with fragrant plants sewn into it. It helps to ward off nightmares and relieve sleepless nights.

  • Ointments

Modern healers do not often use herbal ointments in their practice - it is believed that this is an obsolete magical method. But nevertheless, the ointment from magical plants is quite a valuable tool in magical practices.

  • Ink

To write down a magic formula or draw a symbol, it is better to use ink other than ordinary. Experienced magicians mix different herbs and add either elderberry or blueberry to them for color.

Herbs in White Magic

A professional white magician always has a number of magical herbs on hand. These include: nettle, chamomile, rose and rose hips, white mistletoe, St. John's wort, jasmine.

This is not the entire list of herbs used in magical rituals. Many herbal preparations are used in magical rituals and ceremonies. They help to overcome diseases, expel evil spirits from the house, and restore energy balance.

Since ancient times, herbs in magic have occupied a special place and to this day they are considered the most powerful tool for magical deeds.

Herbs in black magic

The most famous herb used in black magic is wormwood. It is used to summon demonic entities, dark forces and other inhabitants of the other world.

It also helps well to cope with enemy attacks: it protects from the evil eye.

Datura is often used for love spells in black magic. Various lotions, powders and tinctures are made from it.

Sorcerers use Boudre leaves in order to restore strength and be energetically stable. Still, ceremonies and rituals are quite costly procedures that require physical and mental effort.

Herbs in love magic

Many plants are used to attract love into your life. The strongest in this regard are:

  • the Rose;
  • jasmine;
  • basil;
  • iris;
  • lavender;
  • violet.

In the ancient works of magicians and healers, there are many rituals and ceremonies using these plants. Special infusions were prepared from them, which must be given to the beloved. In the name of love, conspiracy and spells were read.

It should be remembered that the magic of herbs is not able to create love, it will only help you in search of your happiness. She will bring a meeting with a soul mate closer. The main thing is not to miss this moment.

Healing magical herbs

Each blade of grass has its own range of strength, so we use some plants to heal heart disease, others for headaches, and others for viral infections.

But there is a group of magical herbs that have a beneficial effect on the entire body:

  • St. John's wort;
  • Dill;
  • ivan da marya;
  • lavender;
  • nettle.

Medicinal decoctions and tinctures are made from them. If you know the exact proportions and dosages, these magical herbs and plants relieve even serious diseases.

Herbs that enhance magical abilities

Not all sorcerers naturally possess supernatural powers. It turns out that they can be developed with the help of special herbs, which will be discussed below:

  • Verbena

This wonderful plant awakens all the hidden talents in a person. It helps to defend against enemies - physical and spiritual. Children learn better if they wear a verbena amulet.

  • St. John's wort

Mages are always under the onslaught of otherworldly forces - they need powerful protection and support. The intrigues of unclean forces sometimes surprise with their diversity. A sprig of St. John's wort helps to ward off all bad and develops a sixth sense.

  • Nettle

Awakens in a person courage and readiness for any deeds. But this does not at all mean the thoughtlessness of actions - before taking the decisive step, the owner of the magic plant will make sure of its future effectiveness several times.

  • Burdock

Burdocks help to establish contact with the brownie. This is necessary in order for him to keep home peace and take care of comfort.

  • Peter's cross

Powders, infusions and decoctions with this herb help to cope with a series of misfortunes - what is popularly called the "black stripe".

Folk beliefs associated with herbs

Many legends and beliefs associated with herbs have come down to us from our ancestors. In those distant times, people believed that with the help of plants and their magic, you can accomplish any feat, defeat any force and achieve what you want.

Everyone has certainly heard about the fern flower: those who are lucky enough to find this wonderful plant can forget about misfortune and poverty.

Here are some more folk signs:

  • Placun grass

With the help of a flower or root of this plant, you can drive away all evil spirits from the house. It is also recommended to store dried plakun-grass all year round to provide yourself with magical protection from evil.

Already in the name itself lies the ability to overcome all obstacles on the way to success. It is often used in love rituals.

  • Dream herb

They say that infusions and decoctions from this plant help to awaken in a person supernatural abilities... He begins to see the future in dreams, his sixth sense allows him to do everything right and for the benefit of himself.

  • Nettle

It would seem that such a famous plant as nettle cannot have anything to do with magic. Each of us in childhood, a guest at the grandmother's in the village, was burned more than once by the stalks of this grass.

But it turns out that nettle is very valuable in healing practice - it helps a specialist to recognize the severity of the disease and the degree of its development.

Remember that you can use the magic of herbs only after thoroughly familiarizing yourself with all their properties. Otherwise, you can irrevocably harm either yourself or your loved ones. Ignorance does not absolve one from responsibility for one's actions.

Witchcraft with the help of plants

The most famous sorceresses of the ancient world were the daughter of the fearsome ruler and ruler of the underworld, Hecate, who was at the same time considered the boss of all demons, and also known from the "Odyssey"

Circe, who, getting magic drinks from plants, turned everyone who visited her into animals.

Medea, the daughter of the Colchian king Aetus and Hecate, helped the leader of the Argonauts, Jason, with the help of her witchcraft art, to kidnap the Golden Fleece. She especially succeeded in the art of rejuvenating those around her by bathing with the addition of special impurities. Thanks to this fame, she managed to send Pelias to her magic cauldron. whose daughters she deceived, saying that she wanted to rejuvenate their old father, who stood in the way of her ambitious plans, and to destroy him in this way. Medea fled with Jason and married him. After 10 years of marriage, she was so tired of Jason that he expelled her. Perhaps Glauke, the daughter of King Creon, was to blame for this, since she was supposed to become the successor of Medea. As soon as Medea found out about the planned conclusion of a new marriage, she sent the happy bride enchanted by plant juices Wedding Dress and in the same way an enchanted diadem. As soon as Glauke put on the presented things, they immediately ignited, and the bride turned to ash.

In her large witch's garden, Medea grew many poisonous herbs and medicinal plants, which she always skillfully used to her advantage.

The second notorious sorceress of the ancient world was Circe, who, according to Greek mythology, was the daughter of Helios and Persea. She allegedly lived near Circeum, today's Promontorio Circeo, on the island of Aea, in a castle built of sparkling stones, guarded by tamed lions and wolves.

Fig. 8. Datura.

All days Circe used to weave and sing songs. This rather monotonous activity was interrupted by the sudden arrival of Odysseus and his companions, who were carried to the island of Aea during their wanderings.

At first, Circe generously treated the wrecked, but then turned them with the help of witchcraft plants into pigs. Only thanks to the sympathy of Hermes, Odysseus received the herb, which again turned his companions into people.

Circe for her witchcraft actions allegedly used mainly mandrake, for this reason Pliny called this plant "Circe". Other magical herbal substances used by Circe, apparently, belonged to the group of hallucinogens that caused all kinds of visions in those who took this drug, up to the fact that they saw themselves as beasts. Garlic is often mentioned as an antidote, and the plant that Hermes allegedly gave Odysseus to fight witchcraft could only be garlic. At least Odysseus himself recommended this plant as a remedy for witchcraft. It was at the same time about one of the varieties of bulbous plants with the botanical name Allium magicum. Later, common garlic (Allium sativum) was recommended in Greece and among the Romans as a remedy against witchcraft. The dried root tubers of this plant were hanged to children as an amulet from the evil eye, as well as from other witchcraft influences.

And, in conclusion, it is necessary to mention the Thessalian sorceress Erichto, who had approximately the same fame as Medea and Circe.

GROUPS OF MAGIC SUBSTANCES DEPENDING ON THEIR IMPACT

Magical plants and herbs used in witchcraft and plant magic were divided according to their effect and purpose of use into five groups:

Professional herbs,

Weather grasses,

- "wonderful key",

Lucky Plants

Magic remedies.

Professional herbs were used mainly for spells from the devil, witches, sorcerers and evil spirits. For this purpose, they were used for fumigation during the corresponding ceremonies. As amulets, they were worn on the body to protect against the negative effects of the above "evil spirits".

The weather grasses growing in or around the house were supposed to prevent losses due to bad weather, which can arise from a lightning strike, floods, hail, etc. They have also been used against insects, mice and rats.

The "miraculous key" was the name given to those plants that helped magicians and sorcerers find enemies or find treasures.

Plants of the fourth group were the most beloved: used as amulets, they were supposed to help owners achieve wealth, prestige, love and power. If they were taken as a medicine or

powder, then they increased the readiness for love and gave courage to the recipient.

Magic remedies included "magic ointments", "magic drinks" and fumigation powders.

Magical ointments were rubbed into the skin mainly in the epigastric cavity, armpits and in viscose. Here are some ancient recipes that by no means can serve as an example to follow:

- "water celery, aconite and poplar buds are ground with the addition of soot and vegetable oil before receiving the ointment ".

- "water celery, yellow gladiolus root, belladonna and five-fingered herbs are ground with vegetable oil with the addition of blood bat and brought to the consistency of an ointment ";

- "take the seeds of chaff, henbane, hemlock, red and black poppy, poisonous lettuce, purslane - each of them in four parts, one part of belladonna fruit, add vegetable oil there and make an ointment from this";

- "grapefruit, verbena, scrub, sedum, maidenhair-veneerum of hair and chicory are rubbed with ungentum farelis (special fat) to the consistency of an ointment";

- "poppy, nightshade, chicory and hemlock are mixed with the fat of cattle, cat, dog, wolf, donkey, etc. to the consistency of an ointment."

Magic drinks differ from magic ointments only in that the plants used are not pounded in oil and fat, but are boiled in water or infused with alcohol. The extracts obtained in this way, containing biologically active substances important for magic, were drunk or imperceptibly added to another drink by those whom they wanted to bewitch.

Fumigating powders were used in European magic for necromatic (from Greek: to spell the dead) purposes, to interrogate the dead. Court Counselor von Eckartshausen, in his Explanations of Magic, lists the following three recipes for this purpose:

- "Hemlock, henbane, saffron, aloe, opium, nightshade, black poppy seeds, mandrake, marsh celery juice and asafoetida mix and pour on a baking sheet for fumigation";

- "chop henbane, coriander, celery, black poppy seeds, mix and pour on a baking sheet for fumigation":

- "chop coriander, celery, henbane and hemlock, stir and pour on a baking sheet for fumigation."

To achieve the full magical effect of fumigation, von Eckarthausen also requires following conditions: "Refrain from all strong passions for 8 days. Observe absolute sobriety for 8 days, if possible be alone. Avoid communication with representatives of the opposite sex, read about the frailty of life. During all the time, think about the conjured person, whose spirit should to remember about communication with her during her lifetime, to pray for her. it comes about a living person, then the beginning of the fumigation session should not coincide with the time when the person concerned is engaged in prayer, virtuous activity or other duties in accordance with his position. "

The real physiological processes caused in the human body, especially in the brain, by the biologically active substances of "witch plants" were naturally unknown in plant magic, although objective and free from prejudice observers could constantly notice that all the actions of magic substances were purely subjective.

Fig. 10. The sorceresses go to the sabbath.

So, the sorceresses of the Middle Ages firmly believed that by rubbing in the so-called "magic ointments", using "magic drinks" or fumigating with the use of "magic powders", one can learn to fly. At the same time, they imagined themselves in such flights in the form of animals.

Observers who watched witches during and after they received magical means, such as

the Swabian Dominican monk Nieder, whose message we present below, could not confirm the flight process itself: "One priest in his sermon reported that the flights of witches do not actually take place, but are only the fruit of fantasies and dreams, and therefore the sorceresses only imagined that they were carried off to other places, and after that they told others what they allegedly did there, trying to assure their listeners of this.

One old sorceress was offended by suspicions about her magical art and suggested that the priest, leaving the church, actually prove to him. that the flight of witches is not a dream if he follows it ..

The priest did indeed go with her. After that, she sat down on the seat in the dough and rubbed herself with ointment. She fell asleep and behaved rather vividly in her sleep, stretched her arms up, as if she wanted to take off, was restless and jumped as if she wanted to dance. She did this for a certain time, until she turned over from the dough and fell to the ground.

When she lay down for a while, she began to move a little, saying: "Now you really saw me flying and returning!"

"Of course," said the priest, "you flew far! You slept in the dough until you fell to the ground, where you lay until you woke up. Feel your eye, which you broke into blood."

Thus, the old hag was healed of his dreams, and the priest left her even more convinced in his opinion that the flights of witches is the real nonsense. "

And in our time, substances are often used that have an effect on the psyche. However, not in order to use them to obtain "magical power" or turn into a beast: some intellectuals hope in this way to expand their consciousness. Drug addicts want to escape from the gray reality of life, and the general population, in a depressed mood, immediately resort to sedatives, and at the slightest sign of fatigue - to stimulate the body.

All these drugs, which affect the human psyche and the danger of which cannot be underestimated, have the general name of psychopharmacological.

PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGICAL DRUGS

Psychopharmacological agents are chemicals that directly affect certain centers of the brain, nerve plexuses or certain nerve endings and cause a change in the threshold of excitability.

By the threshold of excitability, we mean the least strong electrochemical excitation, which causes a response from the nerve. If it is slightly increased with the help of certain psychopharmacological agents, then the whole psyche calms down, in this case we are talking about a calming effect. If, on the contrary, the threshold of excitability is lowered, then the consequence of this will be the excitement of the activity of the brain and nerves.

Psychopharmacological agents can put in order disturbed mental functions, eliminate the state of fear and anxiety. Moreover, certain psychopharmacological agents cause a change in consciousness, which is often misinterpreted as an expansion of consciousness. We will pay special attention to these activating substances, known as "drugs".

But first, we would like to dwell briefly on other psychopharmacological agents. The following psychopharmacological agents are distinguished:

Antipsychotic

Antidepressant

Psychosocial

Psychostimulants

Strengthening

Euphoric

Hallucinogens.

Antipsychotic drugs (also called neuroleptic or psycholeptic drugs) are mainly used to treat psychosis, especially schizophrenia (split consciousness). They cause a decrease in the state of fear and intense excitement, prevent hallucinations, states of delusional ideas.

Fig. 11. An image of the possible components of the effect of psychopharmacological agents, as well as the spectrum of the effect of individual psychopharmacological groups.

Antipsychotics primarily include phenothiacin or butyrophenone.

Antidepressant drugs (also known as thiomoleptic drugs) are used primarily to treat endogenous as well as severe acute neurotic depression. They act in different directions, stimulating, relieving the state of fear and not causing euphoria or drug addiction.

The classical representatives of antidepressants are imipramine or amitriptyline.

By their chemical composition, psychoactive drugs or tranquilizers are referred to as benzodiazepines. They are aimed at eliminating the feeling of fear.

The most common of these is the drug Valium.

When they are used for a long time, mental dependence on them may arise.

Psychostimulants and eyelids are usually amphetamine-like substances that a short time can help to improve the tone of the body, improve attention and concentration. They are often used to curb appetite and food abuse.

Strengthening drugs are substances with directed excitation to certain functional centers of the brain (respiratory center, vasomotor center) or to the entire central nervous system.

At higher dosages, these substances, which mainly include caffeine, pentetrazole and psetimide, can be used as antispasmodics.

Euphoric drugs are drugs that raise or alter a person's mood without inevitably causing hallucinations. They

affect mainly the sympathetic nerve centers of the brain and produce a subjective, differently perceived, feeling of well-being.

These include, along with intoxicants such as alcohol, morphine, cocaine and solvents: acetone, ether, chloroform.

Hallucinogens are substances that cause in a person conditions similar to psychosis and accompanied by hallucinations. They are collectively known as "drugs". These include LSD. psi-locybin, mescaline, canna bis, hashish, etc. Under their influence, colors, noises, sounds or smells are "perceived", which can be pleasant or unpleasant - but in any case express a change in consciousness.

Each indoor plant has its own energy, which affects a person in different ways. For example, it is believed that the fat woman attracts money, and the cactus scares away robbers and bad people.

An ordinary flower can be an excellent talisman of protection and a talisman of good luck. The main thing is to know which plant will help solve this or that problem.
