How to glue cabinets in the kitchen. Features of repairing kitchen facades yourself

Greetings dear readers of this blog. As part of the repair course, I will tell you how film MDF facades are made in industrial conditions and how you can paste the facades yourself.

I won’t talk too much about whether painted or filmed MDF is better, but I’ll say right away that the future lies with facades covered with film. The fact is that such components are much more accurate, durable and, importantly, cheaper to produce than painted MDF or MDF enamel covered.

When choosing painted MDF or film for assembling a kitchen set, remember that even high-quality enamel will swell or peel over time, while the service life of the film coating can last for decades without the need for repairs.

Self-adhesive for furniture: what to buy

It is important to understand that not every film can be glued to slab materials. If a randomly selected self-adhesive from the market sticks to the furniture, then the surface will most likely not be perfectly smooth, and the coating will bulge in the corners and will come off after a while.

There are two solutions to the problem, namely, buy an industrially manufactured facade that will not peel off and will look great. The second option is to buy a good film that has high adhesion to various surfaces, including wood.

Such materials, for example, can be purchased in stores such as Leroy Merlin at prices from 125 to 900 rubles. behind . Standard length high-quality coating with a thickness of 0.3-0.5 mm per roll is 2 meters with a width of 45 cm.

The difference in cost is due to the thickness of the material and the quality of the adhesive layer. That is, the higher the price of the film, the better.

How industrial cladding of furniture facades is performed

Industrial production of MDF facades and their subsequent decoration with film is carried out as follows:

  • In accordance with the product specifications, slabs with a thickness of 6 to 32 mm are cut into individual parts;

  • The cut blanks are sent to the milling shop, where the blanks are given the required configuration using special equipment;
  • The end of the workpiece is processed manual router, after which the manufacture of the facade can be considered complete;

  • At the next stage, the part enters the glue shop, where a special hot-melt adhesive is applied to the surface, which is activated at elevated temperatures;

  • The part prepared in this way goes to the membrane-vacuum pressing workshop, where, using special equipment, it is covered with a hot film that comes into contact with hot-melt adhesive;

  • After the film has cooled, its excess is cut off and the product is ready for packaging.

Most of production process is automated, so the output products are high-quality, neat and relatively inexpensive.

So, I told you what the manufacturing instructions are furniture facades covered with vinyl film.

Unfortunately, for obvious reasons, all stages of the production process cannot be done with your own hands at home. However, there is a way to restore or update furniture with using PVC films.

Pasting furniture facades at home

Now I’ll tell you how you can glue MDF film to a facade on a flat surface.

To carry out the planned work you will need following materials and tools:

  • PVC film;
  • White Spirit;
  • Soft, lint-free cloth;
  • New wide plaster spatula;
  • Sharp utility knife;
  • Sharp scissors;
  • Household hair dryer.

Important!
The spatula must be truly new, since a used tool may have subtle irregularities that will scratch the film when smoothing.

The work ahead consists of the following stages.

Despite the fact that the instructions for gluing film on MDF are simple, the quality of the finished result will depend on how accurately you follow it.

  • On initial stage carefully wipe the surface to be decorated with a rag soaked in white spirit;

  • We measure the perimeter of the surface to be pasted and using these measurements we cut out the self-adhesive with a margin of 1-2 cm on each side;

  • Roll the self-adhesive into a roll with the wrong side facing up;
  • We apply the edge of the self-adhesive to the edge of the facade and separate the edge of the backing;

  • Next, we gradually unroll the roll, separating the backing;

  • Using a spatula wrapped in fabric, smooth out the self-adhesive so that no bubbles appear on it;

  • After the film is evenly glued over the entire surface, excess self-adhesive is trimmed around the entire perimeter;

  • The perimeter of the facade is heated with a household hairdryer and additionally smoothed with a spatula wrapped in fabric;
  • We use a similar method if there are bubbles on the surface of the product.

If all points of the instructions are followed correctly, the result will be practically indistinguishable from factory-made furniture facades.

Important!
A special feature of adhesive-based PVC films is their small thickness.
As a result, every speck of dust or unevenness on the surface being pasted will be visible to the naked eye.
Therefore, we carefully wipe the facade with a damp cloth and check for dust under a lamp or bright lantern.

Covering the tabletop with wood-effect film

You have already become familiar with the pasting of furniture facades, now I’ll tell you how I finished it myself. kitchen countertop. The main stages of the work done are not much different from the previous method, so I’ll just post my photos with explanations.

First, I sanded the tabletop, changing the grit of sandpaper in the sander from medium to fine. The need for grinding was caused by the presence of scratches and chips on both the front surface and the ends.

I treated the depressions and large scratches with putty, after which I finally sanded the workpiece and wiped it with a cloth soaked in white spirit.

I applied self-adhesive, gradually removing the backing and spreading out the unevenness on the sides. When the main surface was pasted over, I folded the self-adhesive along the ends.

I made cuts in the corners with a sharp utility knife and folded the bottom piece of film under the top one. I smoothed the end of the film with a rag.

He heated the remaining folds with a hairdryer and, already heated, smoothed them out with a rag. After complete cooling, the film is stretched and the ends look perfectly even.

For your information!
The described technology can be used not only for pasting furniture facades and tabletops, but also for decorating furniture, large household appliances etc.

Basic information about film facades

Finally, I’ll tell you what film facades are, what their advantages and disadvantages are.

Film facades are a popular solution for making furniture mainly for kitchens and bathrooms.

The scope of application of furniture made from such material is not accidental, since MDF board covered with PVC film is resistant to excess humidity. That is, if there is no hood installed in the kitchen, and there is no hood in the bathroom effective system ventilation, the furniture you buy will last for many years.

Can the same be said about furniture covered with self-adhesive vinyl? Unfortunately, self-clad facades are not as reliable as factory-made counterparts.

Self-adhesive, no matter how well it is glued, cannot guarantee the absolute tightness of the coating. Factory facades do not have open gluing areas, and therefore wet air cannot have any effect on MDF.

Comparing that better film or enamel or plastic for

Film with a pattern for the kitchen

Each kitchen has its own characteristics - size, color scheme or style. For each of these parameters, you can choose exactly the film that will be combined with the main interior and complement it. Adhesive film itself is popular among consumers, but films with various patterns are especially popular.

Today you will no longer be surprised by a simple monochromatic facade kitchen furniture, and, to be honest, such furniture looks boring. If it's on the door kitchen cabinet a flower will bloom, or all the facades in the kitchen will be decorated with some unusual ornament, your guests are unlikely to remain indifferent to such beauty. A few tips on what to do before gluing such a film:

  1. In order for the film to adhere well to the surface, it (the surface) must be cleaned of dust. Perfect option– if the facades where the film is planned to be glued were wooden and varnished.
  2. So that you do not make a mistake and your drawing turns out even on the other side of the film, centimeter markings are provided for convenient cutting.
  3. In order for everything to work out perfectly, you need to stick the film as carefully as possible; you must not allow any swelling, cracks, wrinkles, and so on.

MDF film facades for kitchens

One of the advantages of such facades is low price. Perhaps this material is the cheapest among those used to make kitchen furniture. They are quite easy to care for, and with proper maintenance, such furniture will serve you for many years.

The film facade is resistant to various kinds influences:

  • moisture;
  • fungus;
  • mold.

At their low cost, film facades imitate various expensive coatings such as:

  • wood, expensive species;
  • imitation metal coating;
  • imitation plastic coating, with a bright design.

What is better plastic or film for the kitchen?

Let's try to figure out what is best for the kitchen.

Plastic

If you need a kitchen façade that will serve you faithfully for a long time, then of course it is better to choose plastic. Advantages of plastic glued to MDF:

  1. Plastic is a durable material.
  2. He is not afraid of temperature changes.
  3. It does not fade the floor from the sun.
  4. It has a very attractive appearance and will suit the interior of any kitchen.

Minuses:

  1. The surface gets dirty quickly and fingerprints remain.
  2. There is very little choice in terms of color and style.

PVC film is made as follows: the film is glued to the base using a special glue, all actions take place under a press that puts pressure on the film, allowing it to firmly grip the base.

Film

Pros:

  1. The film has a low cost.
  2. Variety of types and colors.
  3. Resistant to mechanical damage.
  4. The film is quite easy to care for.

Minuses:

  1. Unresistant to high temperatures - can withstand up to 70 degrees.
  2. If the damage is serious, it will still be visible, even if you touch up the damaged area.
  3. The film does not tolerate sunlight and may fade over time.

What to do if the film on the kitchen facade peels off

This problem is quite common among owners of kitchens with facades covered with film. There are many reviews and advice on this issue on the Internet. We have collected for you the most popular and effective ways solutions to this problem:

  1. You can buy the same film and stick it on the damaged area, use an iron or hair dryer.
  2. You can contact craftsmen who make kitchen furniture. They have a special device for warming up, the main thing is that the color of the new film is identical to the old color.
  3. And finally, change the film - this will save your nerves, and you will be able to update the interior of your kitchen if you are tired of the old one.

Alternative kitchen design options (chipboard and enamel)

On the way to transforming your gray and dull kitchen, you can use other materials, such as laminated chipboard particle boards). The laminated chipboard is covered with a special laminated film. Facades made of such material look quite aesthetically pleasing and can transform any kitchen beyond recognition.

Pros:

  1. Very affordable price.
  2. You can order chipboard of any size you want, and the price will remain almost unchanged.

Minuses:

  1. Such facades look simple, without unnecessary pomp, although for some this is perhaps a plus.
  2. After time has passed, façade fastenings may begin to wobble or fall off completely.
  3. And in general, such a cabinet has a short service life, but if you want to decorate the kitchen, so to speak, “for the first time,” then laminated chipboard is created just for you.

Review of a kitchen made from chipboard (video)

Another material for finishing the kitchen is enamel. Cheap and tasteful, the main thing when choosing facades coated with enamel is to pay attention to the number of layers of this very enamel - the more layers were applied, the better and more durable this coating will be.

Good luck with your choice!

Peeling of the PVC film at the edges can occur both immediately after the manufacture of the facades, and during operation under the influence of external factors (temperature, moisture) or time.

Reasons for film peeling and lifting on MDF facades:

1.Lack of glue. When manually applying glue, it is easy to overlook and miss one side of the part, especially if the glue is transparent. For elimination this deficiency Many manufacturers use glue with added dyes.

2. Poor quality glue for PVC film. For example, when using a two-component polyurethane adhesive, the proportion of hardener in the adhesive composition was incorrectly calculated.

The self-adhesive film peels off.

It is also possible when using expired glue. As a rule, this defect does not appear immediately, but after some time. In this case, the PVC film peels off effortlessly from the facade over the entire surface.

3. The glue did not activate and did not react with the PVC film due to insufficient temperature at the joint. The following factors may have an impact:

  • underheating of the PVC film itself;
  • fast vacuum supply;
  • too thin adhesive layer;
  • cold blanks of MDF facades;
  • low air temperature in the room and the press desktop;
  • insufficient vacuum during the cladding process MDF facade, which did not provide sufficient pressing force of the film to the adhesive layer;
  • the glue is not suitable for this press in terms of its technological parameters (the activation temperature is higher than that provided by the technology).

4. Incorrect operating conditions for MDF film facades: location near sources of heat, hot steam and moisture. When purchasing furniture with facades in PVC film, the buyer must carefully read the manufacturer’s recommendations on operating conditions, as much as possible permissible temperatures, air humidity, resistance to household chemicals and so on.

Remedies

If there is no or insufficient glue, use a brush to carefully apply it to the edge of the MDF facade, and then glue it in one of the following ways:

Using silicone membrane

It is necessary, according to all the rules, to lay out the parts of the facades on pads on the work table and cover them with a membrane. Then turn on the vacuum. After the membrane covers the facades, you should check the quality of the covering (no folds, tightness over the entire surface of the film). Next, you need to heat the facades to the activation temperature of the glue. As a rule, the heating temperature under the silicone membrane should be slightly higher than during the conventional cladding process. Attention! For MDF facades with a milled surface, this technique is unacceptable, as it can lead to peeling of the film in the milling cavity.

Using heating devices

This can be an ordinary household electric iron or any other tool heated, for example, using an industrial hair dryer. The tool should initially be heated to a temperature at which the film begins to “lead”, but not melt. It is best to first test on film scraps, or invisible areas of facades in PVC film. Then, pressing the tool tightly against the unglued edge of the facade for 1-2 seconds, perform a movement as if pulling and wrapping the film onto the inside of the facade. In this case, the glue at the clamping point should warm up, and the film itself should stretch slightly and protrude above the plane of the back side of the part. After all sections of the facade have been glued in this way, the protruding excess film can be cut off with a stationery knife.

Unstretched internal corners frame facades can be glued in the same way using a heated metal rod commensurate with the radius of the cutter used when cutting out the frame opening.

Attention! You should not heat the film directly with a hairdryer, as it will begin to shrink and curl. This will only make the situation worse.

Bonding the film by friction

The method is interesting because it does not require any devices or devices. Through a piece of rag thumb the area of the non-adhesive PVC film is rubbed. In this case, friction creates pressure and temperature sufficient to activate the glue. The disadvantages of this technique include high probability exposing the edge of the edge of the MDF facade and damage by friction to the decorative layer of the PVC film itself.

Gluing the film using second glue

When using MDF film facades, the film often peels off near heating devices or sources of hot steam. In such cases, you should not delay eliminating the defect, since over time the film can become so deformed that it will no longer be possible to restore the façade. To glue PVC film You will need quick-drying second glue, such as “SuperMoment” or similar. In this case, the gluing area should be coated so that the glue gets not only inside, but also partially on the film itself and on the exposed areas of the MDF, thus ensuring the strength and protection of the facade from the influence of external factors during further operation.

Re-upholstery of MDF facades

An extreme case is when the PVC film peels off over the entire surface of the MDF facade. Old film is torn off using a hairdryer, after which the facade is thoroughly cleaned of the remnants of low-quality glue. The process, despite its simplicity, is quite labor-intensive and requires a lot of patience, since old glue quickly clogs all used sanding agents. It is even possible to re-mill the MDF facade.

The film on the kitchen façade has come off, what should I use to glue it on?

With the beginning of the use of self-adhesive film, designers received a flexible and powerful tool for realizing their wildest fantasies. Thus, such a film is completely safe for health, it is waterproof, and is not afraid of high temperatures. In addition, it is durable and quite cheap.

Self-adhesive film can be used to cover bathrooms, kitchen walls, and the surfaces of other rooms. Self-adhesive film can be used to update old furniture.

  • dishwashing detergent;
  • hand hairdryer;
  • wallpaper glue;
  • knife or scissors;
  • primer;
  • ruler.

Work process

  1. Prepare the surface properly: it should be smooth and clean. The surface must be degreased and free of dust. To degrease, you need to use dishwashing detergent. If very deep stains cannot be removed with dish detergent, then you need to use an alkaline solution for cleaning. Smooth surfaces (for example, plastics, metal, glass) should be slightly moistened before gluing with water and detergent additives. Porous and rough surfaces (plywood, cork, wood, fabric, plaster, ceramic tile) must be dry. For maximum adhesive strength wooden surfaces who are deprived varnish coating, you need to prime it with methyl wallpaper glue, ground or polyester glue. Cracked bases, as well as surfaces with uneven surfaces, must be leveled with putty.

    Defects of MDF film facades. Peeling off (lifting) the film

    After such an operation, the treated areas are polished sandpaper and coated with acrylic primer.

  2. Cut the film into pieces of the required size. The centimeter grid (scale) makes cutting the film easier. This mesh is typically applied to the back (paper) side of the self-adhesive film. If you are cutting long and even pieces of film, it is better to cut with a knife, guided along a ruler. Cutting is carried out with a margin of 20-30 mm. If you want to correctly match the film pattern that is applied to front side, then you need to cut such a film, focusing on the front side.
  3. Now you can glue the pieces of film. Separate the paper from the film by approximately 50 mm. Apply the film to the target surface and glue the separated edge. Now you need to slowly and evenly pull back the paper with one hand, freeing the remaining part of the self-adhesive film from it. With the other hand, smooth out the film using a soft towel. It is necessary to smooth the film from the central area to the edges. This way you will avoid the formation of air pockets. If the formation of bubbles cannot be avoided, then you need to pierce these bubbles with a needle and carefully squeeze out the air.
  4. Pasting corners. To paste rounded edges, you need to heat the film with a regular hand-held hot air gun. After such manipulation, the film is very easily bent and glued. If you are gluing edges and straight corners (for example, processing book bindings), then you need to cut the protruding corners at an angle of 45 degrees. Now these corners can be bent and glued.
  5. Composing several sheets of self-adhesive film. Make an overlap of the canvases by 15 mm - overlap the canvases on each other. Then cut both layers of film with a sharp knife (you can use a stationery knife). This cutting is done using a ruler. The cut strips are removed. After this, you need to press the edges of the film tightly. The joints can be hidden with borders that are glued on top.
  6. Covering large surfaces. The film will adhere perfectly to large surfaces if they absorb moisture well enough. Cover the surface wallpaper glue. While the glue is still wet, you need to glue the film and adjust it to the right place. Now you can press the film and smooth it with a clean, dry towel. If the film sticks to the surface very quickly, then such a surface should be sprinkled with talcum powder or powder. These substances will slow down the gluing, and you will be able to correctly align several pieces of film with each other.

Self-adhesive film is not endowed with sufficient wear resistance. Therefore, it must be used carefully when finishing floor coverings.

film peeling

Laminating (laminating) MDF facades can significantly reduce the cost of their production, since buying laminated MDF board costs the enterprise more than 2 times more than covering an uncovered slab with paper.

Laminating (lamination) of MDF facades is the process of covering the rough, untreated surface of MDF parts blanks with lining paper or film to improve appearance inside facades or countertops. This method is used if the production of MDF facades uses non-laminated MDF panels to reduce the cost of the finished product.

Laminating (lamination) of MDF parts is, as a rule, the most effective and in a simple way, using available funds. In this case best equipment For laminating MDF facades, this is the existing membrane-vacuum press.

Using a foam roller, PVA glue is applied to the surface of the product. A piece is cut from a roll of facing paper to a size 1-2 cm wider than the part itself. MDF facades coated with glue are laid on paper on the working surface of the press and covered with a silicone membrane.

After turning on the vacuum, excess glue is squeezed out, which helps it set quickly. To speed up the gluing process, you can turn on the heat and maintain a temperature of 40-50 °C on the surface of the press. It should be borne in mind that excessive overheating can deform parts.

Depending on which adhesive is chosen for laminating, the laying process can take from 15 minutes to 1 hour.

After removing the parts, excess paper or film for laminating MDF is cut off. To do this, run the blunt side of a knife along the corner of the pasted edge so as to bend the paper. Then it is cut off at the bend with a sharp knife, and the cut is lightly cleaned with emery cloth.

If in the process of lamination (lamination) of MDF facades other facing materials or adhesives, then, in order to avoid deformation or peeling of the cladding, it should be remembered that coating with PVC film will subsequently be accompanied by heating of the parts.

Film MDF panels

MDF film panels can be compared to an expensive vintage car, which remains stylish and in demand for a long time. They deserve their popularity because positive qualities, time-tested, which they possess. Facades coated with PVC film are wear-resistant, durable and practical to use. Excellent resistance to moisture and other harmful factors present in everyday life.

These facades are also known for their diversity color solutions. The film can be given any shade or color; it perfectly imitates the colors of natural materials, complementing it with a stylish glossy shine. The film can also be matte if the designer’s idea requires it.

Naturally, the above advantages do not apply to all film facades. Much depends on the integrity of the manufacturer. To produce high-quality film MDF panels http://mebel.ua/company/arkopa-2778/, you need to have modern equipment and master the technology.

Manufacturing of MDF film facade:

Initially produced MDF panel, which serves as the basis of the facade. MDF is dry pressed fine chips, which is a waste product from the processing of natural wood. After which the slab is covered with PVC film. To secure the film, manufacturers use glue on water based. The film is installed using vacuum pressing, which eliminates the appearance of air bubbles and ensures a perfectly flat surface. Next, the workpiece is milled and processed using special equipment.

It is the equipment that plays an important role in the manufacture of facades and affects their quality. Its cost is very high, so not all manufacturers can afford to purchase it. This equipment allows you to obtain facades of the required shape.

Technology MDF manufacturing panels with PVC film is quite simple and known to everyone. But without special equipment, perform it efficiently this work impossible. The result correct production is a reliable, high-quality and inexpensive film facade that imitates facades made from natural expensive materials.

Unfortunately, very often you can encounter low-quality facades. Their film coating quickly peels off or loses its original appearance. Violation of the tightness of the coating reduces the moisture resistance of the MDF panel, and it swells over time.

It would seem that with such a simple technology it is impossible to spoil the product, but excessive savings by manufacturers often leads to this. Low-quality film facades are obtained due to the use of low-quality raw materials or equipment.

How not to make a mistake with your choice and purchase a high-quality film facade?

Then you need to ask what film was used in production. Chinese materials cheaper, but thin. The denser the film, the longer the product will last.

The highest quality raw materials are produced by Italy or Germany. Their film has a thickness of 0.5 millimeters.

Even with a visual inspection, you can determine the quality of the product. There should be no air bubbles on the surface of the facades. The film layer should lie flat, without bruises or bends. All ends of the product must be reliably protected.

If it has lost its former attractive appearance, it’s time to update it. If purchase new kitchen is not suitable for everyone, then replacing the film on the facades will be the best option for each owner. The use of vinyl film is the most budget option

The main advantage of vinyl film is that it can perfectly imitate natural wood, stone, leather and others natural materials. Just a couple of rolls of this film is enough and the kitchen will completely change its appearance. Such a replacement of film on facades will not break your pocket, so it is affordable option for every homeowner.

Regardless of whether the work will be carried out independently or this task will be entrusted to a professional, in any case the following list of materials will be required:

  • Vinyl film;
  • Thick fabric for smoothing the film over the surface of the facade. A plastic spatula will also work;
  • Alcohol or solvent;
  • Roulette;
  • Stationery knife;
  • Ruler and pencil.

In order for the film replacement to bring the desired effect, the facade must first be removed and placed on a hard surface. It is not recommended to work while suspended, as it is terribly inconvenient and there is a high risk of spoiling both expectations and the work itself. vinyl film. In order to complete the task in accordance with all the rules, you need to know well the main stages of the procedure:

  • The door is removed and all existing fittings are unscrewed. If the fittings, frankly speaking, are outdated or worn out, then it is better to replace them with new ones. Thus, it will truly be renewed beyond recognition;
  • Before gluing the film to the facade, it is necessary to thoroughly treat its surface with water and soda. Afterwards everything needs to be wiped dry. This procedure is required to degrease the surface;
  • Cutting the vinyl film itself is very simple. Regardless of the manufacturer, markings in centimeters are offered on the back of the film. Simply measure the cabinet and cut out pieces of film of the required size;
  • The film is placed face up on the façade. The protective paper is peeled off from the top of the film, and the film itself is applied to the facade and leveled using a rubber spatula, soft fabric or just hands. If air bubbles appear that cannot be removed with a spatula, you can pierce them with a pin and straighten the film again;
  • If any segment turns out uneven, it is better to immediately remove it and replace it with a new one. If you do not do this right away, the film will become very firmly attached to the facade, and there is nothing you can do except remove it with a utility knife.

The easiest way to work is with a single-color film; you need to make sure that it does not cover the grooves of wood or marble, depending on what material the facade is made of.

If the updated facade does not look very impressive, then it can be diluted vinyl stickers or patterned inserts. It all depends only on personal imagination and the materials used.

Rules for the operation of facades with PVC film

  • If it is necessary to replace the film on facades, then it is best to take a closer look at expensive and quality options who can normally tolerate high humidity in the kitchen and exposure to high temperatures;
  • Various solvents, alkalis and other acids will not have the best effect on the condition of the film;
  • Can not use lighting, which will be installed to the facade with film at a distance of less than 10 centimeters. This is especially true when the lamp uses a conventional incandescent lamp. This will cause the film to begin to fade, wrinkle and burn through;
  • Facades with film, which are installed near ovens, must be recessed by 3 or more centimeters relative to a gas or electric stove.

If there are also a few points that are under no circumstances allowed with the use of facades and other furniture that is covered with vinyl film:

  • Facades should not be installed next to a source of high heat, or in places where there is direct exposure to sunlight. Otherwise, the film may change its color, which will lead not only to the loss of the attractive appearance of the entire product, but also to peeling of the film;
  • It has been laboratory proven that it is prohibited to use facades and other furniture with glued vinyl film at temperatures below 20 degrees and above 60 degrees, relative to an air humidity of 80%. Otherwise, significant damage to the material occurs;
  • After replacing the film on the facade, you need to wait several hours so that it is well fixed on the surface. After this, the facade can be returned to its place. Otherwise, cracking of the film may occur;
  • It is necessary to exclude, as far as possible, moisture from entering the façade. If this happens, try to immediately remove the moisture using a soft cloth.

Facade painting

It is worth noting that it is possible to restore a damaged kitchen facade not only with the help of vinyl film, although its presence will serve additional protection. A very popular option for updating the kitchen facade is painting it. It is worth noting that painting is useful in cases where the facade has retained its normal condition. If there large cracks or chips, you won’t be able to get away with ordinary painting. To paint the facade, you must perform the following steps:

  • The façade is removed;
  • All fittings and hinges are unscrewed;
  • The surface is well cleaned and degreased;
  • The facade is cleaned using abrasive sandpaper;
  • The surface of the facade is wiped with solvent;
  • The façade is being painted directly. It's best to paint first hard to reach places. A thin brush is useful for this. On flat surface It is most convenient to use a paint roller. The paint must be applied in several layers. It is worth noting that the best way to cover the facade with new paint is to use a car aerosol;
  • After painting is completed, you can use a stencil to create interesting patterns, which will only increase the aesthetic component of the updated facade. Afterwards you can return the façade to its place.

Separately, it is worth noting that after the paint has dried, you can stick the already familiar vinyl film onto the facade. You can use either a transparent film or one with an existing tint, which, if chosen correctly, will create a very beautiful effect. The film must be applied only after several hours of painting. Before this, the surface of the facade must be thoroughly degreased again so that the film can adhere well to the surface of the facade.

In order to hide scratches and defects received during the use of furniture or to renew the surfaces of facades and panels, a special film is used. It is durable, has an attractive appearance and rich color palette. To figure out how to glue self-adhesive film to furniture, you need to consider in detail its features and application methods.

Furniture film helps to visually refresh furniture panels that have become boring over time in a short time. With the help of simple manipulations, the procedure can be done with your own hands in a few hours. To do this, you only need the material itself and sharp scissors or a construction knife.

Today, the range of this raw material occupies a leading position among other methods of furniture restoration. With the help of the material you can realize any design solutions into life, without spending a lot of money.

The popularity of using self-adhesive is due to its following advantages:

  • the material is supplied in rolls, making it easy to cut rectangles and squares of the required dimensions;
  • the film helps protect furniture from future scratches and chips, and if they do appear, replacing the material will not be difficult;
  • self-adhesive film will help save the family budget: you won’t have to purchase a new set if it is possible to update old products;
  • no additional tools are required for work;
  • well suited for kitchen furniture, protecting it from grease, dirt and other damage;
  • the material is easy to clean, self-adhesive compounds can be treated with detergents and gels.

The raw material consists of several layers: front, adhesive, protective. Each of them performs its own function. The very first layer - the front layer - is made of different options materials:

  • polymer film - represented by a self-adhesive type of vinyl, which perfectly covers surfaces. She looks very beautiful on furniture, and her decorative abilities are invaluable. In addition to vinyl, PVC or polyester is used;
  • foil - used for lining less used pieces of furniture, most suitable for wall cabinets;
  • paper - paper-based material can be glued to the ends of the shelves, since such a film does not withstand constant mechanical stress.

Decorative film can imitate a large number of surfaces: leather, wood, natural stone, ceramics, tiles and fabric. Thanks to this she has wide range applications not only in updating facades, but also in ordinary decor.

Depending on the material of manufacture, self-adhesive film is divided into:

  • single-layer roll products - produced on the basis of polymers, additives in the form of plasticizers, which give the raw material strength: all components are mixed together and flat rolls are formed by extrusion;
  • two-layer models - in this case, two canvases are used in production: the base and the surface, such material technical specifications worse than its single-layer counterpart.

Anyone can glue furniture on their own; no special skills are required. Before you start working, choose the surface structure of the film; it can be glossy, matte, transparent, mirror and holographic. Each type is used in individual cases, so it is important to determine in advance the purpose of the raw material.

Choosing a film based on the type of room

In order for pasting of furniture with self-adhesive film to be successful and to serve for many years in the future, you need not only to purchase quality material, but take into account the type of room in which the surface will be used. Raw materials for the kitchen and bedroom have their own characteristics, so when choosing, use the following tips:

  • film for furniture intended for the bedroom or living room should not only have an attractive appearance, but also fit into the interior. If previously the fronts of cabinets and tables had a certain color, it is not at all necessary to repeat it - you can purchase rolled products of a different shade, but do not forget about compatibility with upholstered furniture and finishing. For well-lit rooms, a matte film is ideal - its structure will be perfectly visible in sunlight. When choosing a self-adhesive base for the bedroom, pay attention to products that imitate natural materials. Such options would be appropriate for decorating the facades of cabinets and chests of drawers;
  • To make the kitchen set look like new, it can also be covered with vinyl material. For this room, the strength characteristics of the raw materials and the ability to constantly withstand mechanical stress are very important. Gloss would look good here, but remember that the surface requires careful care. Many designers recommend using self-adhesive compounds with photo prints and bright images. The pattern of citrus fruits will suit the kitchen space;
  • You can also update the furniture in the bathroom or toilet using this raw material. Thanks to its properties of not absorbing moisture, the pasted surface will not only look beautiful, but also be practical. For the fronts of cabinets and cabinets in the bathroom, use options that are consistent with color scheme facing tiles floors and walls;
  • To freshen up the children's room, glue on material depicting your favorite cartoon characters. Children always enjoy new things, and such a surprise will delight them. Assortment of films with fairy-tale characters, will help the baby do right choice. Raw materials are used to process wardrobes, bedside tables and even tables for execution homework. If it's not in the plans complete replacement appearance of furniture, you can focus on using individual patterns for decoration.

To update the outside of glass cabinets and display cases, treat the furniture with a transparent self-adhesive film.

This material often has a small printed pattern that will help diversify glass facades.

When choosing a material, think carefully about the future design. Some varieties of holographic or glossy films can have the opposite effect and create a cluttered feeling in the room.

Application technology

  • scissors and sharp knife office or construction type
  • soft fabric to smooth out wrinkles;
  • roller for removing air from the material;
  • solvent;
  • primer mixture;
  • medium-dispersion sanding paper.

In the process of pasting furniture with film, it is first necessary to prepare the surface of the products by treating them with a special composition. For this, a primer is used, which improves the adhesion of the two planes.

Preparation proceeds as follows:

  • tighten all hinges and fasteners furniture product. Also check that all screws are screwed in completely; if this is not done, small protrusions will be visible on the glued surface, which will significantly affect the aesthetics of the appearance;
  • examine the furniture for cracks and chips. If there are any, they must be removed using putty. Gently apply the mixture to the defect areas and fill the voids. After drying, treat the areas with sandpaper - this will give greater adhesion to the surface being glued;
  • The next step will be degreasing the plane. Before gluing the film to furniture, soak the fabric in a solvent and go through all the corners and hard-to-reach areas of the furniture panel that will be treated with the material.

When the surface preparation is completed, we proceed directly to the gluing process itself. To avoid shortcomings, follow the proposed algorithm of actions, which can also be found in the video in the article:

  • produce necessary measurements furniture to cut the required pieces of material;
  • using scissors, cut from the roll exactly as much as is necessary for gluing the surface;
  • before pasting furniture panel, release the material 10 cm from the protective layer so that the adhesive base is exposed;
  • attach a piece of raw material to the furniture with an adhesive layer and gradually, smoothing the film with a roller, remove the remaining material from the protection;
  • It is necessary to smooth the plane from the edge that is already glued to the area that you are going to glue. In this way, it will be possible to avoid the formation of folds and wrinkles on the surface being pasted.

There is another method of treating furniture with film, which is based on the use of a wet solution of water and soap. Here, gluing the raw materials correctly will not be difficult. In this case, protective layer completely removed, the material is placed on the floor, face down. The solution is applied to the adhesive layer using a sprayer, after which the film is applied to the surface. It is appropriate to stick the material using this method if there is large areas finishing, when it is difficult to achieve a perfectly smooth surface.

Common mistakes

Sometimes, even after finishing the furniture, bubbles, folds and other defects may appear that were made during work. Correcting defects is not possible in most cases, so the film must be removed and the procedure will have to be repeated again. When doing the work yourself, you can make the following mistakes:

  • Before gluing the material to the surface, it was not treated with a cloth or brush. Important point removing dirt and dust causes a smooth coating, and the presence of small particles of dirt underneath will spoil the appearance;
  • the cut piece was not enough to cover the shield. This happens if you don’t take a few centimeters in reserve when cutting. Usually it is calculated at 2-3 cm, which can easily be measured on the back side of the material, where the measuring grid is located;
  • the drawing on the plane does not match. Answering the question: how to properly glue a film that imitates natural materials, it is worth emphasizing that it must be cut at the seams - then there will be no problems with the pattern shifting;
  • Furniture defects are visible under the coating. The reason for this error is poor preparation of the base or the use of too much thin material. If the furniture is old enough, then it is better to use rolls with a thicker front layer. Before gluing self-adhesive film on furniture, all damage must be removed.

To do the job efficiently and to paste the furniture yourself without any defects, follow the technology for applying the material. It is better to pre-twist all the fittings, and process the elements of collapsible structures separately.
