However, planting plants in the ground in spring is also possible. In this case, the buds will appear later, but this technology will not affect the development of plants in any way.
It should be borne in mind that spring planting has some features.:
- It is advisable to harden the raw materials for planting by placing them in the refrigerator for 12 hours;
- Before planting, it is advisable to rinse them in a weak solution of potassium permanganate to increase the viability and disinfection;
- Planting is carried out only in warmed-up soil, so that the plants quickly take root in a new place.
It is important to choose the right place if you plan to plant tulips in the spring so that they bloom. For this, a well-lit and wind-protected place is chosen. This will accelerate the growth of the crop and provoke earlier flowering. Examples of flower bed placement are shown in Figure 1.

In the future, the plants will be weak, bloom poorly, or may infect other, healthy plants.
Proper storage of bulbs for spring planting
Bulbs for spring planting can be harvested from a flower bed in the fall. But to get strong and healthy plants in winter, planting material must be properly stored.
The most optimal storage is considered to be in a cellar or basement. To do this, pre-dug specimens are slightly dried, cleaned of soil residues and laid out in one layer in boxes (Figure 3). For storage, the boxes are placed in basement with good ventilation and a temperature of about 0 degrees. In such conditions, the material will remain viable, but will not germinate.
Figure 3. Methods for storing planting material at home Store-bought bulbs can also be stored in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator for several months. So they will not only pass the necessary hardening, but also retain the strength for rooting in the open ground.
Do I need to process the bulbs

A weak solution of potassium permanganate is most often used as a disinfectant. It is enough to lower the planting material into it for 30 minutes, after which it is dried and proceeded to planting (Figure 4).
Processing planting material with potassium permanganate allows you to destroy pathogens and pest larvae that may be on the surface. In addition, such treatment strengthens the seeds and speeds up the process of acclimatization in a new place.
Cold storage
Maintaining optimal temperature and humidity levels is essential to preserve growing material. If the room is too hot, the planting material can become moldy and deteriorate. At low temperatures, they lose their ability to germinate.

When to plant tulips in spring
You need to know when, namely, in what month to plant tulips in spring, so that the bulbs germinate and retain their strength for future flowering.
Note: It should be borne in mind that during spring planting, the plants will not have abundant and friendly flowering. V best case the buds will release only a few bushes. However, next year the plants will get strong enough and take root for a long and friendly flowering.
Spring planting should be done as early as possible, preferably at the end of March or early April. However, to protect plants from spring frosts, the bulbs are first planted in special containers, and after the temperature has stabilized, in open ground. The main condition is to complete the planting before the beginning of July.
An important condition is soil temperature. The ground must be warmed up to at least 9 degrees at a depth of 10 cm, since the bulbs are placed at this very depth. Besides, early varieties are planted earlier, and later ones can be replanted until July.

Choosing a landing site
The flower bed should be located in a well-lit place. It is desirable that the flowerbed is evenly lit. Otherwise, the stems will begin to stretch towards the light source, and their stems will be too thin.
It is better to choose an area with loamy or sandy loam soil, since heavy soils slow down growth and impair flowering. In addition, it is necessary to properly prepare the land for planting, which will be discussed below.
Soil preparation
In the spring, when the snow melts and the soil thaws, they begin to prepare the soil for planting. The earth is dug to the depth of the bayonet of the shovel, since root system plants go deep enough into the ground.
After that, the site is fed organic fertilizers... Anything will do, except fresh manure, which can cause rotting or fungal diseases roots. Additionally, mineral fertilizing is applied, especially on light soils. This will ensure high germination and friendly flowering.
How to feed plants for fast growth
To enhance the growth of the culture, mineral fertilizers are applied during all growing seasons. The first feeding is applied shortly after planting. For this, nitrogen-containing preparations are used, which accelerate the formation of stems and the growth of leaves.

But, if this is not possible, it is enough to add organic matter at the stage of soil preparation and feed the plants mineral fertilizers after landing. At home, these activities are sufficient for growing lush bushes.
Tulip planting technology
After preparing the soil, proceed directly to planting. To do this, the planting material is evenly distributed over the site, leaving a distance of 8-10 cm between each copy.
Note: Planting depth depends on the size of the bulbs. Large ones are buried in the ground to a depth of 10-15 cm, and small ones - only 5-7 (Figure 5). This condition must be observed, since planting small bulbs too deep will slow down their germination, and large ones may appear on the surface when placed in too small holes.
Grooves or holes are made in the flower bed, watered, prepared bulbs are carefully placed in them and sprinkled on top with a layer of nutrient soil. The upper surface of the earth is leveled with a rake. After that, the garden is watered. Double irrigation provides closer contact of the planting material with the soil and accelerates its germination.

Caring for tulips that were planted in spring
Crops planted in spring begin to bloom later than plants transplanted in the fall. This is because the bulbs need 2-3 weeks to take root and form the first shoots.
Before the shoots appear, care consists in regular, but not over-watering. Their frequency depends on the amount of natural precipitation and the type of soil (Figure 6).
Note: Watering is carried out only at the root. Moisture should not get on the leaves and stems. In addition, enough water must be applied so that even roots deep in the soil receive the necessary moisture.
