Master class on creating a box with your own hands

We offer step-by-step instructions on how to make a box at home. To do this, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • tape measure;
  • simple pencil;
  • board 25 mm thick;
  • wooden trimmings 15 mm thick;
  • thin plywood;
  • metal corners;
  • nails and screws;
  • hacksaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • metal hinges for opening the lid structure;
  • hammer.

The first step is to familiarize yourself with the diagrams and drawings of how to make a box. This will allow you to correctly compare the dimensions of the finished product. Do not make structures that are too large, as they will take up a lot of free space.

When all the components are ready, you can proceed to the manufacture of a storage system for vegetables and fruits. The process includes several steps:


On the surface of the boards, we mark the size of the side parts of the product. Next, move on to the bottom of the box. We mark the size on the wooden trimmings. After that, using a hacksaw, we begin to cut the blanks.

We fix the boards together with small nails. We fasten the bottom details using the same method.

The cover of the product consists of a plywood sheet. It is installed on special hinges that allow you to control the closing process.

Tool storage box

This kind of design is considered the best DIY drawer idea. This product will allow you to keep all the working tools in one place. Here you can make additional departments for storing screws, nails and nuts.

For this you need to prepare:

  • thin board;
  • thick plywood;
  • hacksaw;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver;
  • tape measure;
  • drawing of the finished product;
  • metal corners.


On sheets of thick plywood, we make markings for the details of the box. After that, we drill holes for fastening metal loops. Next, we connect the side parts to each other.

Let's start making the bottom for the storage system. To do this, we attach a thin board to the side of the box. So that it does not fall under the weight of the tools, it must be strengthened with thin boards. To do this, several wooden elements are stuffed on the bottom surface.

In the side parts of the plywood we draw the markings for the handles. They will be cut inside the main body of the product. Here you need an electric jigsaw. The cutting base is installed at the beginning of the markup.


In the process of cutting parts, do not make sudden movements. They can cause cracks on the surface of the product.

Now let's start installing partitions. To do this, cut out a small square from thin plywood. It is fixed with metal corners in the middle of the structure.

A toolbox today is a very indispensable thing for every owner. Most of us have a lot of different tools that we may not use very often, but nevertheless, we keep them, since not one repair can do without them. In order for the tool to be in one place, and it was convenient to transport it, we use special boxes. Often we just buy them in the nearest store, the range and variety allows us to do this. But why not make it yourself? The manufacturing process is not too complicated, anyone should be able to handle it, especially with a handmade thing, which is much more pleasant to use than a purchased option. This article will describe 4 different ways to make boxes, a photo report is attached.

Let's start making!

Manufacturing Method No. 1

We will need:

Material

Plywood;
- pine board;
- nails;
- wood glue.

Tool


- drill;
- hammer;
- chisel;
- manual frezer;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- roulette.

The first step is to find the necessary material, plywood or trimming boards are suitable for this. Further, according to the presented drawing, it is necessary to mark up, then cut out all the details of the case. It is necessary to make special grooves into which the partition will be placed, for this we use a manual milling cutter, or another available tool.

The diagram shows the following body parts:

1 - wall (2 pcs.);
2 - sidewall (2 pcs.);
3 - bottom;
4 - groove along the thickness of the partition and a depth of 1/2–1/3 of the thickness of the material

When everything is ready, all elements of the box body should be sanded. Next, we assemble the body together, fix the parts with wood glue, and then additionally fasten with small nails.

Now we make a partition for the box, cut out a special handle, for this we use a jigsaw.


When the partition is ready, grease the grooves with wood glue and install it in its place.


Next, from the planks we make overhead handles, with the help of a planer we round the corners. Then we make tool holders from the rails, use a jigsaw, and a drill. The holes will serve for screwdrivers, and pliers, etc. will be installed in square cutouts. tool.


In order for the box not to get dirty, and to be protected from the environment, we cover the surface with varnish. As a result of the work done, we get such a homemade box.

Manufacturing method No. 2

Drawer-stool


Material

Plywood or OSB;
- wooden beam;
- self-tapping screws;
- wood glue.

Tool

We take an existing sheet of plywood, make markings on it, and, according to the dimensions presented, cut out the lid (Fig. 1), then the longitudinal sides (Fig. 2) and sidewalls (Fig. 3).


Next, we take a wooden beam with a section of 40x50 mm, cut out a handle, and 4 legs with bevels at the ends at an angle of 15 °.


Next, we assemble the structure together, using self-tapping screws as fixing elements.


Parts layout:

3 - handle;
4 - leg;
5 - sidewall.

When everything is ready, use sandpaper or a grinder to round off sharp corners and clean the surface. Next, you can apply a protective coating.

The end result should be such an unusual tool box, which, if necessary, can be transformed into an ordinary stool, for this it is enough to turn it over and put it on legs, with it it will be convenient to reach the place we need, at a time when growth does not allow do it.

Box for the young master.


Does your child love to craft? We offer to make a small box with him, where he will store his favorite tool.

To make a box with our own hands, we need the following

Material

16 mm boards;
- round wooden beam;
- self-tapping screws;
- wood glue.

Tool

Available cutting tool;
- screwdriver;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- roulette;
- clamps.

First you need to take the existing boards with a cross section of 16 mm, then we make the markup, according to the dimensions provided, after which we cut the wood into the component parts we need.

The drawing shows the following details:

1 - sidewall;
2 - bottom;
3 - handle;
4 - handle stand;
5 - holder.


Using sandpaper, we grind the surface and remove sharp corners. When everything is ready, we begin to connect all the parts together, first you need to connect the bottom and sidewalls, then we put vertical racks along the marked lines and at the same time we put a horizontal handle.

We fix everything with glue and screws. Then we install special holders for screwdrivers.


Now you can paint, choose the color and coating at your discretion.

The toolbox is ready.

Manufacturing Method No. 4


The next version of the tool box is well suited for carrying various and necessary equipment for us, its appearance will be distinguished by solidity and reliability.

To make a box with our own hands, we need the following

Material

The board is not thicker than 12 mm;
- self-tapping screws;
- joiner's glue;
- pen;
- corners 8 pcs.;
- latch 2 pcs.;
- loop 2 pcs.


Tool

Available cutting tool;
- screwdriver;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- roulette;
- clamps.

For the manufacture of the box we use such wood as: pine, linden or poplar. The most optimal thickness of the boards will be a thickness of 12 mm.


Next, we make the markup, according to the indicated dimensions in the drawings, after which we cut it into its component parts, as shown in the photo.

In order to make sure that the wood was cut correctly, you need to put all the parts in a single box.

First, we assemble the bottom part and the lid of the box, for convenience we use clamps and corner clamps. We fix the parts together with carpentry glue.


Then, using a drill, we drill a hole for the self-tapping screws, we drill the holes.

The box is a necessary thing in everyday life. It makes no sense to buy or order it, because it is much easier to make a thing with your own hands from boards. The main thing is to follow the technology step by step, choose the right boards and know how to make a box. Then everything will work out.

Board selection and parts manufacturing

The size of the boards largely depends on the size of the intended product. There is a common belief that low quality boards will do for a crate. Is it so? If the surface of the tree is not uniform, with knots and deformations, then when sawing or processing the board, a person may be injured. In order to create such a structure, it makes no sense to take high-quality expensive wood. It is best to choose a board that is medium in size and quality. How to make the simplest box where you can put tools?

To make such a design you will need:

  • boards;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • sandpaper;
  • carpenter's pencil;
  • ruler or triangle;
  • electric jigsaw or circular saw.

Boards with a width of 22 mm are best suited for this. For fasteners, self-tapping screws are required, and for working off the boards and the surface of the finished product, a sanding sheet is required. It all starts with marking, for which you need a carpenter's pencil and an ordinary ruler. It is best to take a triangle ruler, because with its help it is more convenient to mark the boards from which the box is to be made.

For cutting wood, hand tools are practically not used. To make a box, you will need a circular saw or a jigsaw. Be sure to pay attention to the teeth of the electric saw. They should be small and even. Such structures for domestic needs are not made of thick wood. A powerful saw, which is usually used for cutting trees and landscaping, is not needed here. There is one more nuance: starting to saw off the boards, they first make a trial cut on the wood to see how it will be sawn, and only then proceed to the main operations. In order not to be mistaken with the dimensions of the finished structure, for this purpose it is best to prepare a “pattern” in advance: make its bottom and walls out of paper. This is very convenient, because then it is enough to attach the “pattern” to the wood and transfer the necessary parameters to the boards.

As soon as all the wooden parts are cut out, they are sanded. Then, 3 holes are drilled at the bottom of the side walls of the finished product. The lower ends are coated with carpentry glue. To remove its excess, you need a dry cloth. The components of the box are assembled and strongly pressed against each other. Self-tapping screws are screwed into the drilled holes. Before finally screwing in the screws, it is necessary to check the correct location of all parts of the finished product. To make the tool box convenient to use, a handle from a cylindrical rod is attached to it from above. The rod can be made of wood or metal. How to make similar designs for flowers? Repeat the same operations from the beginning. And on the sides, with the help of self-tapping screws, fix the handles so that the flower box is more convenient to use.

Making a retractable structure

It is believed that a retractable structure is more difficult to manufacture than an ordinary one. It really is. Calculations and measurements when such boxes are made require more complex ones. Before you start making a retractable structure, you need to decide where it will be located. If you need drawers for cabinets, it is better to first make one for any other piece of furniture in order to understand the principle of operation and master the manufacturing technology in practice. To begin with, it makes sense to try to restore an old cabinet by making drawers for it. First, the doors are removed from it and the door hinges are unscrewed. The “working depth” is measured first. This term refers to the inner surface of the sidewall, that is, the distance over which the boxes move. Each of them has an external part, which is commonly called a facade. The bedside table also has a facade. Based on this, all the facades of the boxes are calculated. The height of the facade of the cabinet is divided by their number. From the resulting figure, the distance of the gaps multiplied by their number is subtracted.

The choice and calculation of guides is the most important stage of work. For a retractable design, it is best to select full rollout guides. When there is already experience in the manufacture of sliding bedside tables, it makes sense to switch to roller guides, the installation of which is much more difficult. It makes no sense to save on drawer guides. The better they are, the more functional and reliable the piece of furniture will be. Marking the guides is not as difficult as it seems at first glance, the main thing is to show maximum care. The calculation of the guides starts from the top. On the right and left sides, the upper pair of guides will not differ. Marking is carried out at a height equal to half the height of the upper facade. All the following markings are made in accordance with the dimensions of the drawer and the front of the nightstand. As soon as the markup is carried out, they proceed to the manufacture and assembly of the products themselves.

Fixing the guide elements

Drawers are best made from solid wood or fiberboard. Each drawer needs a furniture handle. The assembly of fiberboard boxes is almost no different from the assembly of wooden ones, but it has its own nuances. Before proceeding with the installation of boxes, they glue the edge. For this operation at home, sophisticated equipment is not needed. With the help of an iron and a dry rag, the edge is applied to the desired end and gently heated with an iron. To cut off the excess edge, you need an ordinary kitchen knife. It should not be sharp so that the laminate that makes up the edge is not damaged. If the box is made of solid wood, this operation is not necessary.

When the boxes are assembled, it is necessary to properly reinforce the guide elements. Full rollout guides must be divided into 2 parts. The wide part is attached to the sidewall of the cabinet, the narrow part is attached to the sidewall of the drawer itself. The guides are fixed with a slight indent from the sidewall of the pedestal (about 3 mm) and then proceed to fasten the drawer fronts. First of all, holes are drilled in them for further fastening of the handles. Through the same holes, the facade is attached to the main part of the box.

The rough fastening is carried out first, as soon as it is completed, it is necessary to check the functioning of the box and only then fix everything completely.

There are various types of fasteners, however, according to experts, it is best to use confirmations for drawers. If the drawers are small, they count the number of corners and get the number of necessary confirmations. For drawers, you also need a pattern. The most difficult stage in their manufacture is the bottom. Since the drawer is a drawer, unlike the ordinary one, it is mounted in 2 stages. At first, everything is done on a draft, they check the correct installation of the drawer in the nightstand, and only then they fix everything clean.

If the box is made of solid wood, it is better to immediately open it with varnish after finishing assembly. When you need drawers for linen intended for washing, and there are no large sheets of wood for them, then you can make them from thin planks. They are suitable for the manufacture of the frame, bottom and facade of drawers.

And for the manufacture of sidewalls, you can use a plastic mesh, which will provide additional ventilation to things. In some cases, a metal mesh is also used for the manufacture of such boxes.

If you need one large non-drawer drawer for linen, it is made using the same technology as for tools, only the dimensions are adjusted.

A wooden box is a simple but very functional item. Depending on the shape and depth, such products can be used to receive correspondence, grow seedlings at home, store children's toys or tools.

In fact, this is an ordinary rectangular design, which is suitable for growing flowers in the country or storing various household items at home.

The advantages of making boxes from wood are due to the fact that it is an environmentally friendly and affordable material that is convenient for processing with hand tools.

To assemble such a product, you will need:

  • boards that will go to the bottom and walls;
  • fasteners: self-tapping screws, nails, metal corners;
  • tools: screwdriver, hammer, wood saw;
  • roulette;
  • a simple pencil and paper to prepare the drawing.

To begin with, a drawing is made. A sketch of the finished product is drawn on paper, the main dimensions are determined. A schematic representation allows you to accurately calculate the material needed to make the box.

As a raw material, any boards remaining after construction or repair are suitable. The main thing is that the material is of high quality: there should be no traces of decay and wormholes, otherwise the life of the box will be short.

Boards are sawn according to the given dimensions. In total, 5 elements should turn out: side and front walls, bottom. The boards are hammered together, corners can be placed at the junctions to provide additional rigidity to the structure. If the box is supposed to be used for growing flowers indoors, it makes sense to lay a layer of waterproofing made of plastic film on the bottom.

Plywood constructions

Here the material is selected depending on the intended use of the finished product. If the box is intended for correspondence, thin plywood can be dispensed with. For seedlings or flowers, multilayer sheets impregnated with a waterproof composition are more suitable.

The design is made according to the following scheme:

  • make a drawing of a box with dimensions;
  • the drawing is transferred to a sheet of plywood;
  • details are cut out according to the markup;
  • individual elements are fastened together with self-tapping screws or nails, the joints are treated with sealant.

Considering that plywood is easy to process, more complex, non-standard country boxes can be made. For example, arrange the joints of the walls according to the tenon-groove principle. If a deep box is made for storing children's toys, wheels from an old computer chair can be attached to the bottom. Drawers with a sliding top panel look interesting. Here, a cover is cut out of a sheet of thin plywood and a groove is cut in the upper part of the walls.

The general principle of making a do-it-yourself wooden flower box remains unchanged, however, the specifics of use make it necessary to take into account a number of nuances.

Depth matters a lot. Experienced gardeners do not recommend making walls more than 20 centimeters high. Flowers need to be watered regularly, and wet earth significantly increases the weight of the structure.

Balcony boxes should be placed on a solid foundation to eliminate the possibility of falling down. For these purposes, metal frames welded from reinforcement bars are usually used. The advantage of this mounting method is that the outdoor box can be easily removed and brought into the house for the winter.

Note! If painting is planned, it is better to give preference to natural and neutral tones. Bright colors not only fade quickly in the sun, but also hide the natural beauty of plants.

For seedlings

The size and shape of the wooden seedling boxes will depend on how the flowers are grown. Bulky items take up a lot of space and spoil the overall interior of the apartment. Therefore, if you plan to grow cucumbers and tomatoes on the windowsill, it is better to limit yourself to small wooden plywood boxes.

The backyard offers more opportunities for the home craftsman. So, a large and functional seedling box can be made from an old pallet. In fact, the pallet is initially a finished product. The gardener can only make the bottom and walls from pieces of plywood. This will require decorative nails and a hammer. After that, the internal space is filled with earth, the seeds are sown between the upper rows of boards.

Pallet application

From several pallets, you can make a deep wooden box with an opening lid for greenhouse cultivation of horticultural crops. To do this, the pallets are carefully disassembled into their component parts, the nails are removed, and the damaged boards are rejected.

The boards are sawn to size, based on the future shape of the box: a rectangle or a square. For racks, 4 square bars are cut off, their length depends on the height of the box.

The boards that will go to the side walls are laid in a row and a straight line is drawn at a distance of 15-20 mm from each edge. In accordance with the markup, a bar is applied and screws are tightened. The result should be two longitudinal walls. To subsequently equip the box with an inclined lid, the top board of one of the sidewalls must be shortened by 3-5 cm.

Finished shields are installed in parallel, end boards are attached to the support bars. After that, the bottom is made from plywood. If the seedlings will be grown outdoors, the lower structural element can be neglected.

The lid is made of a rack frame corresponding to the size of the box. The elements are fastened together with flat metal corners. If the box has a large area, it is better to strengthen the lid with two longitudinal rails. Using a stapler, a plastic film is nailed to the surface of the lid. 2-3 loops are attached to the back of the wall.

At the final stage, all wooden elements are treated with a special disinfectant to prevent rotting and the appearance of bark beetle larvae. For ease of use, the sides of the lid can be supplemented with window latches that will hold it in a half-open position. Now it remains to fill the box with earth and plant the seeds.
