Viburnum that blooms with white balls. Kalina Buldenezh: landing and caring for the Snow Globe

Kalina Buldenezh is an abundant flowering shrub plant from the Honeysuckle family. Large spherical inflorescences, which gave rise to the name of the variety "Buldenezh", which translated from French means "snowball", give a special decorative effect to the culture. Planting viburnum buldenezh and caring for it requires compliance with certain rules that will allow you to enjoy the beauty of the bush for a long period of time.

Kalina Buldenezh is represented in gardens by such a spectacular variety as Kalina Roseum - a terry variety of shrubs. The plant is distinguished by the color of the inflorescences, White color which, characteristic of the beginning of flowering, becomes pale pink by the end of the phase.

Features of growing Kalina Buldenezh

Ornamental viburnum, like other plants, has its own characteristics that must be taken into account when cultivating a culture:

  • the ability to give the shrub a standard shape;
  • duration life cycle about 50 years old;
  • sterility of flowers forming inflorescences up to 15 cm in diameter;
  • the duration of the flowering phase from a crescent to a month;
  • reaching a height of 3 m and a diameter of 1.5 m.

Planting an ornamental shrub

In order for the rooting of a young plant to be successful, and further growth to be accompanied by regular lush flowering, it is necessary to carefully approach the choice of a place and the optimal time for planting.

How and when to plant?

The planting time will depend on the method of reproduction of the shrub chosen by the gardener.

  • If cuttings or purchased seedlings are used, then the procedure is carried out in early spring, which allows the young specimen to take root well and have time to adapt to new growing conditions.
  • In the case when the division of the bush is carried out, then the resulting plants are planted in autumn time... However, there is a risk that frosty weather will come earlier than planting material will fully take root.

Site and soil preparation

For growing an ornamental plant, an area with light shading from direct sunlight, which can provoke burns, is selected. In the absence of such territories, preference is given to shadow zones with large quantity free space, which allows the viburnum to develop unhindered. To ensure the culture of full development, the soil should have a loose structure, a good fertile layer and a slightly acidic reaction.

Landing rules

In order for the landing process to be successful, you should be guided by a number of rules:

  1. On the selected site, a landing pit is dug with dimensions of 60x60x80 cm, where 80 cm is a depth that allows you not to cause discomfort to the powerful root system of the buldenezh viburnum.
  2. A drainage layer of crushed stone and expanded clay or broken building material is placed at the bottom of the pit.
  3. The drainage layer is covered with 15 cm thick sand.
  4. A nutritious substrate is poured on top, made from 35 kg of compost, 500 g wood ash and 200 g of azofoska.
  5. The planting material is lowered into the recess and covered with soil in such a way that the root collar deepens by 3 cm.
  6. The trunk circle is abundantly irrigated and mulched with sawdust or peat.

Kalina buldenezh: leaving

Viburnum, which has excellent decorative qualities, requires appropriate comprehensive care.

It includes irrigation, soil enrichment with nutrients, systematic pruning and timely protection of bulldozer from harmful organisms.

Watering

A culture blooming with large balls of snow-white color needs systematic and abundant watering, which provides such a splendor of inflorescences. Prolonged drying of the soil in the near-trunk circle should not be allowed. Even in autumn, before the onset of cold weather, the plant needs a large number of water, which will make it possible to protect the shrub from winter dehydration.

Top dressing

The implementation of systematic fertilizing begins from the second year of the seedling's life after planting.

Fertilizers are applied twice a season:

  1. At the beginning of the growing season, the bush is fed with nitrogen-containing mineral or organic fertilizers, which makes it possible for the plant to build up a dense green mass.
  2. In the fall, the soil under the buldenezh is enriched with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers, which help the plant to prepare for the winter and survive it successfully.

Important! After top dressing, the soil in the trunk circle is necessarily moistened.

Pruning

To form a spectacular, lush crown, the buldenezh undergoes systematic pruning, which are carried out after flowering by shortening the shoots, removing dry and growing inward branches.

From viburnum buldenezh, you can form a standard or bush form, at the request of gardeners:

  • To form a standard tree, all side shoots are removed in a timely manner, and the crown begins to form after the plant reaches a height of 1.5 m.
  • To create a bush form, a young specimen is cut off to 20 cm, which stimulates the growth of lateral branches.

Attention! Pruning viburnum buldenezh in the fall is not carried out in order to enable the plant to properly prepare for the winter season.

Support and pinching

Another activity to achieve abundant flowering is the pinching of young shoots in the middle of summer. Thin shoots of viburnum under the weight of large inflorescences can break, so the culture needs support and a garter.

Preparing for winter

Kalina buldenezh is a frost-resistant crop, therefore it does not need additional shelter. However, in severe winters, it is better to mulch the soil in the near-trunk zone with a thick layer of peat or compost.

Protection against diseases and pests

The decorativeness of the culture is often harmed by such pests as aphids, scale insects and viburnum leaf beetle. They should be dealt with with the help of insecticidal preparations, which are distinguished by good performance.

Among the diseases, the most common is powdery mildew, from which the plant can be protected by spraying the crown with a fungicide. With strong development fungal disease processing is carried out in several stages with an interval of 10-12 days.

Kalina Buldenezh: reproduction

Due to the sterility of flowers that do not give fruit, and, accordingly, seed material, reproduction is carried out only by vegetative methods.

Layers

This method of cultivation is carried out in the spring, when:

  1. Grooves are prepared with a depth of 10 cm.
  2. Annual shoots are bent to the ground level, while fixing with metal hooks, and sprinkled with soil.
  3. After the emergence of shoots, hilling is carried out.
  4. After rooting, the cuttings are separated from the parent specimen and planted in individual containers.
  5. Planting seedlings in open ground carried out after 2 years.

By dividing the bush

The easiest way, which is carried out in the fall:

  1. A sharp instrument is being prepared.
  2. A daughter shoot with a part of a developed root system is carefully separated from the parent specimen.
  3. The new plant is planted in a permanent place of growth.

Cuttings

Cutting is a rather time-consuming and lengthy process, in which:

  1. In summer, during pruning, cuttings are prepared from young shoots with 3 buds.
  2. The cut sites are treated with an antiseptic agent in the form of crushed activated carbon and kept in a growth stimulant solution, which accelerates the process of root formation.
  3. With the help of sod land, humus and sand in equal shares, the beds are prepared for planting.
  4. Prepared cuttings are buried 2.5 cm into the substrate.
  5. The plantings are well moistened and covered with foil to create greenhouse conditions.

With constant ventilation and irrigation, the planting material will take root already at the end of August.

Application in landscape design

Due to the beauty and grace of viburnum buldenezh, landscape designers often use it for landscaping various territories:

  • as a single planting against the background of a mowed lawn;
  • as a border plant near conifers;
  • near benches and gazebos;
  • to form a hedge or shady alley;
  • when decorating an artificial reservoir on the territory country house or in a park area.

In this way, decorative culture, characterized by special tenderness and grace, while fulfilling the basic requirements for planting and caring, will not only decorate the site, but will bring the owners a piece of harmony and unique comfort.

And this happens at the end of May, remembering a snowy winter. Large inflorescences, having the shape of a ball and resembling lumps of snow, stick around the branches so densely that it is appropriate to compare a plant with a snow-covered one. They reach 20 cm in diameter. The flowers, which have just begun to bloom, have a greenish color, but change it to dazzling white and become like snow.

Due to the similarity of inflorescences with a snowball, a ball of snow, the plant received a Latin name Viburnum Boule de Neige... Viburnum buldenezh blooms profusely. If the plant is properly cared for, "snow balls" are tied tightly and grow large.

The plant is sensitive to moisture and light. A bush that grows well and looks great, planted in a sufficiently lit place where there is sun and shade during the day. Nutritious moist soil is also important for him.

Kalina roseum and buldenezh differences

V landscape design popular types of viburnum - ordinary buldenezh roseum and decorative with slightly larger inflorescences, double flowers.

Roseum inflorescences, like other types of viburnum, at the beginning of flowering have a greenish color, which changes to white as it blooms. But by the end of flowering, the flowers of roseum viburnum acquire a pinkish tint, in contrast to the snow-white inflorescences of decorative buldenezh.

White spectacular bouquets are collected from both viburnum flowers, flower arrangements are complemented with buldenezh balls, shrubs are used in landscape design.

Kalina buldenezh decorative and ordinary

Both varieties are close in outward appearance and growth.

Variety of viburnum ordinary (Latin Roseum)

Bred in France by Lemoine. Differs in durability (lifespan up to 80 years). His maximum height(up to 5 m, although there are plants and more than 6 m), the viburnum reaches in 5-10 years. The shrub grows 0.3 m in height and 0.4 m in spread annually. Spherical inflorescences Viburnum vulgaris in diameter they reach 10 cm. Their flowers are sterile due to the absence of a pistil, stamens and inflorescences that look like a snow globe. At first, the greenish inflorescences then turn white and remain so during the entire flowering 25-35 days, only turn pink when flowering.

The variety is frost-resistant and highly decorative. Light green foliage in autumn changes color to yellow, orange, red, purple and stays on the branches until late autumn.

Decorative buldenezh

Viburnum inflorescence diameter bulldozer decorative larger - 12-15 cm, flowering lasts about 20 days. Compared with ordinary viburnum, it wins with larger double flowers, but loses in terms of winter hardiness.

In garden design (photo)

In Europe, Kalina Buldenezh has been used in landscape design for more than 4 centuries.

History reference. The European beauty came to Russia under Catherine II.

With the advent of the snowy beauty, wealthy aristocrats began to plant a plant in gardens as a tapeworm, create bulldoze, completely plant the garden with a snow-white flowering plant. Kalina is still considered aristocratic culture, although anyone can plant a shrub.

Looks beautiful near the house single viburnum bush and group of plants... Beauty flowering shrub emphasizes the neatly cropped, its snow-white flowers are set off by bright, broken around the plant. On the summer cottages they create from viburnum bushes that look spectacular throughout the year.

By shortening the young shoots, the plant is given a dome-shaped shape, the tops of the bushes are trimmed so that the hedge from the group of plants has an even horizontal top, and a tree is formed from the bush.

Advice. When choosing a place for a plant, you need to take into account the preferences of viburnum for soil, light, moisture and the chosen concept for bulldozing for many years.

Gardeners immediately determine the place of the plant in the landscape, often they plant one viburnum, and under the bush they change early flowers every year - snowdrops, tulips, daffodils... They fade before blooming and do not draw attention to themselves.

Over the years, the branches of the shrub fall, and the plant begins to resemble a weeping willow. If there is a body of water on the site, perennial shrub planted by the water, like willow. In the shade of a single adult plant or group, a bulldozer is installed.

Due to the delicate green color of the foliage, viburnum stands out on dark background coniferous plantings , and the plant separates the territory with growing conifers.

Buldenezh is used in plant compositions, but the bush is a perfect soloist. Flowering plant it looks bright during the day under the sun's rays and focuses on it, leaving it alone in forest park zones growing among other shrubs or planting in a clearing. Buildings are framed with a hedge of trimmed viburnum bushes, buldenezh is planted along alleys and pedestrian.

The flowering bush is beautifully reflected in the water surface and is planted at the water's edge in the park, near the fountain. In the shade of tall bushes, when creating a recreation area, gazebos and benches are installed.

It is chosen by many gardeners to decorate their garden. Frost-resistant, not requiring special conditions for growth and flowering. not demanding on the soil and easy to reproduce. Read more about cultivation and breeding methods in this article.

Botanical description

One of the varieties decorative species of this plant. This beauty will never go unnoticed in the garden, as it attracts attention with its huge (up to 20 cm in diameter) snow-white balls of inflorescences. These balls can change color during the flowering process, which further arouses the interest of others. The bush itself sometimes reaches three meters in height, although it belongs to undersized shrubs. Its crown is bright green, lush, well emphasizes the beauty and splendor of flowers. From afar, they can easily be confused with snow globes, so mysteriously come from nowhere on a green bush in summer.

Translated from French, Boule de Neige is translated as a lump of snow. This variety of viburnum is widely used in various fields: medicine, cosmetology, folk medicine... Landscape designers love to use this plant to create their masterpieces. Decoctions based on leaves and flowers have a beneficial effect on immune system, gastrointestinal tract, and also on condition of hair and skin.

How to propagate a plant correctly

Kalina buldenezh has several methods of reproduction: by dividing the bush, layering and cuttings. Each method has its own season: for example, spring is suitable for propagation by layering, it is better to divide the bush in the fall, before frost, and cuttings - in the summer.

Timing of harvesting cuttings

Cuttings for planting are prepared in early June. Young green twigs are required and take a long time to root.

How to properly cut and prepare cuttings

For reproduction of viburnum ordinary buldenezh by cuttings, you will need several young healthy branches of this bush. The branches are cut into pieces 10 cm long at an angle of 45 degrees so that each has at least three knots, and the edges are lowered into the water, after removing part of the bark from them, until they take root.

What to root the workpieces

The blanks, if they are young, healthy and green, will take root even in simple water, but you can also play it safe and immerse them in a growth stimulant solution for several days. For example, in a solution Or you can resort to help

Rules for planting cuttings

The main rule of planting for cuttings of viburnum "Snow Globe" is well moistened earth. After the blanks have taken root in the water, they are transplanted into pots with very moist soil, half mixed with sand. Gardeners claim that cuttings can be planted outdoors in spring.

Important! Viburnum pots should be stored in a dark room, covered with a light cloth, at a temperature not lower than 15 degrees.

There is another way - the cuttings are planted in fertilized soil in the garden bed and covered with a film, creating a greenhouse environment. They are watered abundantly for several months, after which they become seedlings.

Did you know? The buldenezh variety practically does not bear fruit, it is very rare and causes a lot of controversy about its suitability for consumption. Therefore, the seeds of this plant are very difficult to obtain, and the method of propagation by seeds is not considered.

Reproduction by dividing the bush

For the buldenezh variety, in addition to propagation by cuttings, even more in a simple way breeding will be a way of dividing the bush. It can be used both in spring and autumn when transplanting a bush. To do this, you need to pinch off a part or several of the rhizome, making sure that each new bush has its own healthy roots and a couple of strong shoots.

Important! It is better to pour drainage into the ground under the bush so that the roots do not rot in the constantly damp ground.

How to propagate Kalina Buldenezh by layering

This is a fairly simple and common way of breeding viburnum.

Terms and conditions

It will require a shrub from one year old, several healthy shoots and moistened, fertilized grooves directly under the bush. The best time of the year for this type of breeding is Spring.

There are more than two hundred species of viburnum in the world, many of them have been introduced into culture.

At the end of spring, the shrubs are covered with a white cap of flowers, and in the fall they give tart fruits.

No less popular is the sterile form, the common viburnum roseum.

Its main feature is large spherical inflorescences that do not have stamens and pistils. The flowering period lasts almost a month.

Viburnum ordinary is found in the forest-steppe zone of Europe, Central Asia, North Africa... Her decorative form appeared in medieval France.

The bush got its name, viburnum buldenezh, for its white globular inflorescences.

The plant with sterile flowers began to be actively propagated by vegetative methods, and by the 18th century it spread throughout Europe.

The shrub grows up to 4 m. It has a gray bark and multi-lobed leaves.

Blooming inflorescences have a greenish tint. After a while, they become like a snow-white lump, and at the end of flowering they turn slightly pink.

Breeding Buldenezh

Every flower is sterile. They do not produce berries, so it will not work to get new shrubs by seed.

All varieties of viburnum reproduce well by vegetative methods, as well as by dividing the bush.

Layers

The work is carried out in late spring - early summer. A shallow hole is dug near the bush, loose earth is poured on its bottom.

On the bark, in places of contact with the ground, small incisions are made, which are treated with a growth stimulant.

The middle part of the shoot is pinned with a bracket, the hole is covered with earth. The area should be humid throughout the summer.

The following spring, the rooted shoot is separated from the mother plant. It can be sent to a permanent place or planted in a growing garden bed.

By dividing the bush

In a similar way, old specimens are rejuvenated. The dug viburnum is divided into equal parts using a sharp garden tool so that there are three buds on each bush.

The cut points are rubbed with charcoal. Delenka is immediately planted in a permanent place.

By cuttings

Green shoots are suitable for work, viburnum does not reproduce well with lignified cuttings.

Shoots 10 cm long are cut during the flowering period.

The stalk, ready for planting, should have 3 knots and an oblique bottom cut.

The lower leaves are removed, the upper ones are cut in half.

At night, the cutting is left in a growth stimulant solution.

Fertile substrate for active root growth consists of peat and coarse river sand.

The cuttings are dipped into the ground at an angle and covered with transparent plastic. During the rooting period, the leaves are sprayed with water every day.

Rooted cuttings are left in the ground for the winter, well warmed with lutrasil and dry leaves. Young plants are sent to a permanent place after 2 years.

Planting seedlings in open ground

It is necessary to choose a place so that the viburnum is comfortable even at the seedling stage.

An adult shrub has spreading branches, you should not plant near buildings or fruit trees... Healthy seedlings take root in a few months.

Optimal timing

Viburnum buldenezh bush can be planted twice a year.

Spring works spend before bud break.

In the fall, you need to have time to plant the plant before the onset of the first frost.

Place and soil

Kalina is unpretentious plant... She prefers moist soils.

In areas rich in humus, there is a rapid increase and an annual lush bloom... Strong shading negatively affects decorativeness.

The soil should be slightly acidic or neutral.

On sandstones, podzols and peat-humus lands, shrubs grow very slowly.

A month before landing in a place under the viburnum, they bring mineral fertilizers.

Landing rules

The depth of the planting pit is 40 cm, and the width is 50 cm. There should be at least two meters between the seedlings.

The plant is immersed strictly vertically, the root collar is deepened by 5 cm.

Immediately after this, the bushes are watered abundantly, 3 buckets of water are required for one plant. Trunk circles are mulched with dry grass.

How to care for Kalina buldenezh

Despite the fact that the species is cultivated, it has retained the properties of wild shrubs.

According to gardeners, planting and caring for Kalina buldenezh does not cause much trouble. Even young shrubs tolerate temperate climates well.

Watering

Water is essential for seedlings and young plants.

They are watered every week so that moisture penetrates to a depth of 50 cm.

To avoid moisture loss, it is best to leave this job for the evening.

Adult bushes are watered exclusively during dry periods of summer.

Pruning

The annual growth of the bush is 40 cm, without timely pruning, it will grow overgrown.

Young inflorescences tend to the sun, while the lower shoots gradually dry out.

Pruning viburnum buldenezh is carried out after flowering.

It is necessary to get rid of thin shoots growing inward, dry twigs and withered inflorescences.

Summer bush formation is a guarantee of lush flowering for the next year.

You can cut the viburnum in early spring, this should be done before the start of sap flow.

Top dressing in spring and autumn

Garden viburnum requires mineral and organic fertilizers.

In the spring, before budding, on trunk circles scatter the urea granules.

As soon as the bush fades, a complex fertilizer is applied. In late autumn, a bucket of compost is poured under the viburnum and the earth is dug up.

Support and pinching

A bright detail that complements general form garden, looks like viburnum on a trunk.

She will endure formative pruning without any stress.

In the spring, one central shoot is chosen from a young bush, which will become the basis of the trunk.

Root shoots and branches below the crown are cut off. The length of the branches in the crown itself should be 30 cm, so they are regularly pinched.

After the trunk has developed sufficiently, it is tied to a support. After a few years, the bush will reach the required height.

To develop in breadth, you need to pinch the crown. It takes 3 years to form a beautiful standard ball.

Preparing for winter

Almost all types of viburnum are highly winter-hardy.

Only in case of abnormally low temperatures do the branches freeze over.

Before the first serious frosts, it is sprinkled with spruce branches, peat or straw.

Young plants under the age of three years should preferably be wrapped in lutrasil, burlap or spunbond.

The reasons why the bush does not bloom

The main reason for the lack of inflorescences is the wrong choice of place for planting.

In the shade, viburnum loses its decorative effect. Dry spring and early summer negatively affect the plant, you will have to monitor the moisture content of the soil.

After a harsh winter, the branches recover for a long time, which also affects flowering.

Potential pests

Although the bushes of the viburnum buldenezh are unpretentious, from time to time they are exposed to various ailments. To preserve the beauty of the plant, it is necessary to inspect it regularly.

In early summer, the bushes are damaged by the viburnum leaf beetle. The beetle eats up all the foliage, leaving veins and petioles.

It is necessary to spray the bushes in spring and autumn with Inta Vir, Fufanon or Aktara. The damaged leaves are cut and burned.

Viburnum aphid is no less dangerous. Small black insects stick around the branches, actively reproduce and suck all the juices from the viburnum.

Damaged foliage is severely deformed and curled. The first treatment is carried out before bud break, the subsequent ones - as the insects are active. It is necessary to alternate between Karbofos, Arrivo and Fury.

Young bushes are prone to powdery mildew. The development of the fungus is promoted by prolonged wet weather... The leaves are covered with a white bloom, which gradually darkens.

It is not only the green mass that suffers, the infected plants hibernate much worse. All damaged foliage is collected and destroyed, and dry shoots are also disposed of.

Viburnum bushes buldenezh are treated with Topaz or Topsin preparations.

Application in landscape design

Singles are often planted along the banks artificial reservoirs.

Kalina Buldenezh looks perfect in solitary plantings on the lawn.

We recommend to know:

Kalina Buldenezh was created in the French capital by the famous breeder Lemoir. Buldenezh - the name, intriguing at first glance, is translated into Russian only as "a ball of snow". The plant was named in this way due to the white cap, which is formed by numerous white large flowers.

Description of the variety

Such a laconic characteristic determines the decorativeness of the variety; Buldenezh is grown exclusively for decorating the garden. It is hard to imagine, but this beautiful bush with lush round flowers-balls is a direct descendant of the common viburnum, however, unlike its relative, Buldenezh does not bear fruit.

Fact: the main difference between Viburnum Buldenezh and ordinary is in the structure of the inflorescences. In ordinary varieties, their shape resembles umbrellas, and in Buldenezh, the inflorescences are collected in dense balls. The official name of Viburnum Buldenezh is “sterile viburnum”, as the flowers are sterile.

Biological features

Buldenezh is a shrub plant of the Honeysuckle family. The height reaches 2-3 meters. Culture flourishes in last days May and continues to delight the eye for almost a month. The emerging inflorescences first have a greenish tint, which gradually, with the opening of the petals, is replaced by a milky one. Viburnum flowers are very powerful and heavy, without a characteristic odor. The diameter of the inflorescences often reaches 20 centimeters. Loaded by them flex branches sink to the ground and look drooping, which creates the most attractive appearance for the plant.

Viburnum of this variety is loved by designers because of its unpretentiousness. It is possible to grow it in regions with the most unpredictable climates. However, even such an unassuming shrub requires care and attention - only then can the long life of the viburnum and its annual lush flowering be guaranteed.

Reference: in Russia, a variety of viburnum Buldenezh was originally an aristocratic plant. It was planted only in the royal gardens and parks.

Types of viburnum buldenezh

Of the variety of species, the most in demand are:

Decorative viburnum Buldenezh

The tree resembles an ordinary viburnum, but also does not bear fruit. Decorators use culture to decorate landscapes. It enjoys popularity due to the fact that it can be easily formed and modeled, achieving the required crown shape. The shrub height rarely reaches two meters. The plant has sweeping branches, which are strewn with medium-sized globular flowers during the flowering period. Decorative variety gas resistant, so they like to plant it along roads.

Common viburnum Buldenezh

It is distinguished from decorative only by its height - an ordinary viburnum in mature age grows up to 3.5 meters. The common viburnum has a little more flowers. Whole gardens are usually arranged with such trees, which create an enchanting aura.

Rozuem viburnum Buldenezh

Terry variety. Blooming flowers have pink color, there is a fringe on the petals. Only when fully expanded, the flowers become pure white and very fragrant. The inflorescences have a slightly elongated structure and are somewhat reminiscent of lilac flowers. This is the variety most unlike the ordinary viburnum.

Planting and leaving

With proper agricultural technology, viburnum can remain productive for almost half a century, and even this is not the limit. The lush blooms, good annual growth and health of the viburnum determine many factors that the gardener should not neglect in planting Buldenezh cultivation. How the plant will behave in the future also depends on how long it will be planted and what the quality of the soil used will be. Further caring for the shrub is just as important.

When to plant

You can plant young seedlings both in spring and autumn - it all depends on which breeding method was chosen:

Site and soil selection

Kalina grows poorly in direct sunlight, but it does not tolerate shaded areas either. Ideally, in the morning the plant is illuminated by the sun, and in the afternoon (during the active sun period) it is in a slight partial shade. The area next to the viburnum should not be overloaded with other plants - Buldenezh should be allowed to develop unhindered.

note: the plant needs at least four square meters, as it is spreading and consumes a lot of moisture and nutrition.

The soil for viburnum is preferable, if not fertile, then at least loose, slightly oxidized. It is important to enrich the soil even when planting seedlings, then they will quickly "grab" to the ground.

Landing rules

Planting young viburnum is practically no different from planting other similar crops. The process is quite fast and simple, however, it requires compliance with some rules:

Care

Viburnum is a winter-hardy crop. One-year-old seedlings are easy to tolerate low temperatures even without a special shelter. It is important for the winter only to protect the roots from freezing ( root system superficial), for this, the root circle is generously covered with peat, humus, sawdust and other mulch, which can prevent freezing of the earth.

Watering

Buldenezh prefers moist soil as the plant is considered coastal. In central Russia, viburnum feels more comfortable, as it receives enough moisture. In the southern area, she needs to often arrange water treatments, otherwise flowering will be poor, and decorativeness will be low in quality. Growth in poor and dry soil will also not be indicative.

V autumn period the crop requires abundant watering - this is necessary to accumulate moisture for the winter. From mid-October until the onset of stable frosts, the shrub is watered up to three times a week (avoiding the accumulation of moisture in the near-stem circle).

Top dressing

In the first year, it makes no sense to feed the viburnum - it is enough for a young seedling that was laid during planting. Regular application nutrients begins from the second year of life. If the soil itself is fertile, then it is enough to apply fertilizer every two years. Otherwise, food is delivered to the roots twice annually per season.

At the beginning of the growing season, nitrogen-containing, mineral and organic fertilizers are applied under the bush. For an adult bush, 7 kilograms of compost, 25 grams of ammonium nitrate, 15 grams of potassium salt and 40 grams of superphosphate are enough. Or they use ready-made complex fertilizers once a year.

note: before flowering, viburnum must be sprayed with a boron-containing preparation. This trace mineral stimulates profuse flowering.

In the fall, viburnum is fertilized with phosphorus-potassium preparations to provide the plant with the strength for successful wintering.

Pruning

As already mentioned, Kalina Buldenezh is responsive to pruning. From the second year of the seedling's life, they begin to carry out formative pruning, which allows you to project the future crown of the tree. In early spring they perform sanitary circumcision: they remove broken and diseased branches growing inside the crown or in the wrong direction, as well as creating thickening.

Important! Viburnum pruning is not done in the fall

.

During pruning, it should be borne in mind that inflorescences are formed on biennial processes, therefore, the plant should not be too exposed, otherwise lush flowering in the current year may not happen.

Kalina can be formed in two ways: bush and standard. If there is a desire to grow a lush bush on the site, then in a young plant it is necessary to cut off all the shoots by 20-25 centimeters. This will stimulate the growth of side shoots.

With the standard formation, all side branches are removed, and the crown begins to form when the bush reaches a height of more than one and a half meters.

Attention: all cuts and cuts should be disinfected copper sulfate and cover with garden var.

The first 3 years after planting, when pruning a plant, it is necessary to cut off young shoots, leaving up to 4 pairs of inflorescence embryos from the base. This will help in the future to enhance the growth of shoots and create the necessary density of the shrub.

In adult shrubs, only preventive pruning is carried out, since the crown has already been formed. For this purpose, the shoots are only shortened and unnecessary asexual twigs are removed.

Aged shrubs over 15 years old need rejuvenating pruning to regain the splendor of flowering and former juicy density. To do this, cut off all the branches by 20 centimeters. Such pruning allows all remaining dormant buds under the cut to awaken and activate their rapid growth. The result of anti-aging pruning will only be visible the next year.

Advice: after pruning, the shrub should be well fed with minerals so that it regains strength after the "operation" and builds up strong shoots.

Reproduction methods

Kalina Buldenezh to the extent of asexuality of its flowers, reproduces vegetatively. There are several ways to increase the collection of ornamental plants: dividing the bush, cuttings, layering.

Layers

An effective but long-term way of propagating a crop. The essence of the method is that reproduction is carried out directly on the mother bush. For this young annual shoots bend to the ground, dig the ends into the ground (pre-enriched and moistened) to a depth of 8-10 centimeters, fixing the branches with hooks so that they do not crawl out of the ground. Soon, shoots appear in the places of "digging in", which are spud up in order to induce good rooting. After the ends are sufficiently rooted, they are separated from the mother bush and transplanted into pots, where they develop for another year or two, and only then are planted in a permanent place.

By dividing the bush

The easiest cultivation method. For the procedure, the strongest and most mature bush with a good overgrown root system is determined. A strong shoot with part of the roots is separated (cut off) from it and immediately transplanted to a permanent place.
