The option of cleaning the surface from old layers of coating by scraping is the most affordable. True, the minus of this method is able to cover all its advantages - it will take a long time to cycle and with diligence. In fact, cycling is peeling off a layer special tool- a scraper, which is a sharpened steel plate that is attached to the handle at an angle to increase pressure on the surface. Such a tool can be both bought and made, or you can use its simple and unpretentious substitute - a glass shard. True, the glass will dull rather quickly, but one can hardly complain about the lack of this material. It is imperative to work with glass with gloves, otherwise the process can result in serious cuts.

If the varnish layer is thin enough, it can also be removed with sandpaper, either manually or with a special tool - a grinder. Machines, in turn, are divided into vibration, tape and eccentric. The cheapest (due to the simplicity of the design) is the vibration type, and for grinding home furniture it is enough, as they say, with his head! The essence of the operation of the machine is simple - we attach it to the "sole" emery tape the grit we need (for removing the varnish film - grit from 40P) and we lead along the surface. Just be warned - there will be a lot of dust! However, the advantage of this method is that you immediately sand the surface, and in appearance it will be much neater than after cycling. Walked the machine, and at least immediately!

An ordinary hair dryer will not work, even on maximum temperature. If we are looking for fast way how to remove varnish from wood - this is it! But keep in mind that if the safety rules and technology are not followed, it can be dangerous both for the tree itself and for you - it’s worth overdoing it a little with heating the surface, and the varnish can flare up.

You need to work with two hands - with one we hold the hair dryer and heat the surface, with the other hand with a spatula we scrape off the lagging coating. We work only in a ventilated area, with gloves on our hands and goggles. In addition, not every composition will respond to heating - the surface may simply char, but there will be no peeling. In this case, washing will help.

Many people now began to get off their floor with a parquet board, and this is not at all surprising. Indeed, in addition to a beautiful and presentable appearance, a parquet floor can last even more than one decade in a row. But if the parquet is not properly cared for, then such a coating will not be able to last even 5 years. The weakest point of this finishing material this is its surface, or more precisely, varnish. The varnish with which the parquet board is covered wears out after 4-7 years, and in order for the floor to always be as good as new, then lacquer coating must be removed and replaced with a new one. This procedure is not very complicated, it has its own frequency of actions. This article will write detailed instructions about how to properly remove varnish from the surface of the parquet.

Instruction

The most important thing is to start the complete replacement of the lacquer coating in a timely manner and wait until the lacquer is completely erased from the parquet. Also, it should not be allowed if paths are trodden in certain places where the varnish coating will already be absent. In any case, at the slightest abrasion of the varnish, it must be replaced with a new one.

In order to get rid of the old layer of varnish, the surface of the parquet must be sanded. During grinding, it will be possible to completely get rid of the old layer of varnish. Also, besides this, rallies from heels or shoes often remain on the parquet. And in order to eliminate them, even about 0.5 mm of wood will have to be sanded. If everything is done carefully, then in the end you will get absolutely perfectly clean and Smooth surface without any defects or damage.

If the area of \u200b\u200bthe room is very large, then it is best to use a special machine for grinding. But for home use you can take the tool a little easier. For example, this can be both a surface grinder and a belt grinder. Using such machines, you can remove the entire unnecessary layer of varnish without damaging the wood layer. It is very important during the process of removing the lacquer coating to ensure that the premises good ventilation. For example, you can open windows or doors. In addition, you will also need to take care of your own safety, that is, you must definitely wear a protective mask.

Before the grinding process itself, the surface must be washed and cleaned of dirt. Once the surface is prepared, you can start sanding. This must be done as slowly and accurately as possible, trying to remove every millimeter of varnish. The process of polishing the floor itself can take from one day to several.

, looks very attractive. But to maintain this attractiveness, parquet requires maintenance. So, it is necessary to periodically remove the old varnish. In this case, it is impossible to allow the paintwork to be completely erased. In such cases, paths are trodden in the wood, which can completely destroy the parquet.

How to remove varnish from parquet: preparatory work
To remove the varnish from the parquet floor, you will have to sand it. During the sanding process, the lacquer coating is simply peeled off. If there is serious damage to, such as traces of heels or falling heavy objects, then a layer of wood is cut off before grinding. The floor is processed by a special drum machine. The thickness of the removed layer is small, most often it is about 3 mm. This allows you to remove damaged areas and extend the life of the parquet.

The sanding itself is done using a special parquet sander. As a simpler option, you can use surface grinding or belt grinding. In any case, the operation of such equipment will be accompanied by large quantity dust and loud noise. To cope with dust, ventilation must be provided. You can leave the vacuum cleaner turned on in the room, which will draw in some of the dust. Operator grinder should use funds personal protection for eyes and nose.

To prepare the floor for grinding, it is necessary to remove all dirt and putty cracks and joints parquet boards special parquet putty. This step is very important if the floor will then be varnished with a solvent. You must select according to the following requirements. It should have good adhesion, not change the color of the parquet and leave a layer no thicker than 1 mm, and also be well sanded. When the putty dries, you can sand.

How to remove varnish from the floor: the grinding stage
The sanding process is very time-consuming, since every millimeter of the parquet must be carefully processed. As for the corners, the floor under the pipes and radiators, and other hard-to-reach places, then they are polished with a special tool. But you can do without it if there is a cycle. A room of 9 square meters may require 2-3 days of work.

At the beginning of grinding, the grinder is filled with abrasive number 40. Then the engine starts and the operator guides the machine around the perimeter of the room. The speed of rotation of the drum must be sufficient to process the floor. Each strip of parquet must be passed in both directions.
In order for the sanding to be of the highest quality, you must first go through the room diagonally, and then sand the parquet in the direction of laying the plates.

In the course of work, the abrasive material will need to be updated. Coarse-grained abrasives are replaced by abrasives with smaller grain sizes until the parquet becomes smooth to the touch, and the differences between the boards even out.

In this article, you will see an example step by step instructions do-it-yourself parquet restoration. Find out what tools you can use for restoration at home. You will reveal for yourself some of the secrets and nuances of this process.

Preparatory work

Before starting work, it is necessary to free the room from furniture, if possible, remove the skirting boards, wash the floor, prepare all essential tool and materials. If you have wooden skirting boards, you may want to install plastic ones. How to do this can be from the article "How to fix a plastic plinth". Charging good mood, patience and transgress to work!

Cycling - tool selection

First you need to remove the old varnish.

At home, you can use a drill or grinder. I recommend choosing a grinder, since the drill, no matter how smoothly you hold it, leaves holes. We bought a special grinder, the so-called angle grinder with speed control. A special nozzle with Velcro of a standard diameter (bought separately) is put on it, on which circles of sandpaper different graininess.

To remove as much old layer varnish, we used abrasive No. 40. Before starting work, be sure to wear a mask or respirator and special safety glasses, as a lot of parquet dust will be generated.

A little advice: collect sawdust in parts by doing small plot work. This will make it easier to collect them.

The old varnish from the parquet is removed at least twice. The second (third) time for parquet processing we use P180 sandpaper.

Grinding work, tricks and nuances, work with cracks

The next stage of parquet restoration is carried out using a vibratory grinder. V hardware store purchased blanks of sandpaper for the size of the machine. But you can buy paper and by the footage, cutting off as much as necessary. We fill the blanks in the grinder and start grinding. We use an abrasive with the smallest grain size. At this stage of work, collect parquet sawdust in a separate paper bag, they will still be useful to us.

Now it's time to get rid of the gaps between the boards. Here we need sawdust. We pour a small slide on the floor and fill it with putty for parquet. Mix well using a wide spatula. The resulting composition should be thick, like sour cream. Carefully fill in the gaps.

Let's dry. We remove the rest of the putty with a vibrating grinder.

I would like to give a few more words to the putty. You can pick up a putty in the color of the parquet, the so-called parquet paste. And fill her gaps. But I don’t advise you to do this, because you won’t guess with the color, it’s a very small color gamut. Use the sawdust method. They will give the shade of ordinary putty that you need.

Now, it would seem, you can proceed to the main stage - varnishing. Do not hurry! The fact is that the putty will settle a little. And if you had gaps larger than 2mm, I recommend repeating the procedure for filling the gaps in places where you find shrinkage. But in this case, you can mix sawdust with varnish so that the color of the filled cracks matches the color of the parquet. Let dry. And again, remove the residue with a grinder.

Lacquering parquet

Here I come The final stage our work. We collect the remains of parquet dust with a damp cloth. Let dry well. We apply the first layer of lacquer on dry parquet, having previously diluted it with a special lacquer thinner. This procedure is performed so that the varnish is more liquid in consistency and is well absorbed into the pores of the wood. The proportion is as follows: for a 2.5 kg can of varnish, 200 ml of solvent.

For application we use a special brush for varnish. You can also use a roller, but keep in mind that the consumption of varnish will be more. The first layer dries the fastest, as it penetrates well into the renewed wood. The second layer of varnish is applied without diluting. Let's dry. This will take more time to dry. See below for the situation. We also applied a third layer, as we wanted to achieve a glossy effect.

I also want to report one nuance that concerns varnish. When you prepare the parquet for painting, you will see natural color tree. To give a slight shade to the parquet, we used a pigment that was added to a regular colorless varnish. The process of mixing the pigment with varnish took place in a hardware store using special equipment. I share this information, because not everyone knows about such pigments for varnish.

Let me explain why I pay attention to this. When we decided to cover the parquet in the dressing room, this situation happened to us. There was no varnish on the parquet from the very beginning, so we decided to use varnish-paint, choosing a shade to match the color of the main parquet in the room. With the help of a consultant in the store on a tablet with colors choose the desired color. And they were shocked by the result.

You can see this wonderful color in the photo. The parquet turned out not at all the color that was presented in the palette. And it differed not even in tone, but in color. The glitter was completely gone. Therefore, be careful when using such varnish paints.

A very hard work has been done. But looking at the result, the soul rejoices. Whoever decides to restore the parquet with his own hands, I wish you great luck.

Lacquered parquet floor is attractive for big connoisseurs of beauty home interior. Like any flooring, it requires care, but special. To maintain its beauty, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the outer layer of the parquet (as a rule, it is varnish). In no case should the varnish be completely erased. With complete erasure paintwork, in the basis of parquet - wood - so-called "paths" are formed. Ultimately, your parquet becomes completely unusable, both for use and aesthetically.

This process is very time-consuming and requires a lot of time and perseverance, since it is necessary to process literally every millimeter of the floor. But there are also some nuances: corners, the floor under the pipes and many other inaccessible places. It is preferable to grind them with machines manual type with a disc diameter of 150 mm. It will take 2 days for a room of about 10 m².

To begin with, you need to insert into the machine grinding disc. It is also necessary to set the desired drum rotation speed, which must correspond to the hardness of the parquet. Each lane is covered twice, both in one direction and in the other direction.
For high quality sanding grinder pass first diagonally, and then - in the direction of laying the plates.

As with any sanding, you need to monitor the abrasive disc and periodically update it. First, coarse abrasive discs are used, which, in order to obtain the smoothest surface, are replaced with fine-grained elements as they work. The distances between parquet boards must also be even.
