Difficult from more than two hundred varieties black currant choose the most suitable for your site. There is the largest-fruited, fruitful, early, sweet - it is worth trying all the best that are bred by domestic and foreign breeders.

How to choose currants for planting on the site

When choosing a variety, consider the following:

  • how drought tolerant it is;
  • how it is adapted to frost and temperature extremes;
  • flowering and harvesting period;
  • is it picky about leaving;
  • how strong the immunity to pests and diseases is.

Correlate the characteristics of the variety with the temperature regime of your region, soil fertility and other features of your area and site, and then evaluate it according to personal preferences:

  • what kind of currant do you prefer to taste: sweeter or with a bright sourness;
  • whether your crop will be transported. For this, it is important to know the thickness of the peel of the fruit and the dryness of the separation.

The largest varieties

With the mass of one blackcurrant berry more than 1.5 g, the variety is classified as large-fruited. Among these varieties there are also frost-resistant ones, easily adapting to heat and low humidity.

  • irregular berries on the brush;
  • inability to transport fruits;
  • sour taste of berries;
  • susceptibility powdery mildew.

But one of mine, planted this year - variety "Yadrenaya", also not small. When my husband saw on a bush, he asked - this is WHAT, grapes :)

Dobrynya

The weight of the largest berries of the variety is 7 g. By mid-May, the currants bloom, harvesting begins after July 15. One bush can produce more than 2 kg of berries. TO indisputable advantages Dobryni, in addition, can be attributed to:

  • pleasant aroma;
  • sweet and sour aftertaste;
  • plant immunity to powdery mildew.

Disadvantages of the variety:

  • young cuttings do not take root well;
  • pretentious to the care and fertility of the soil;
  • affected by a kidney mite;
  • fruits ripen at different times;
  • berries on a cluster are heterogeneous in size and size.

I like the variety Dobrynya very much. Large berry, tasty. I was surprised by the number of berries in the first year of planting. I just want to eat this, it's a sin to let it go on jam. I am very pleased with her.

Selechenskaya-2 - one of the best varieties of currant - video

Black Pearl

The berry weight is close to 5 g. The yield is sufficient: one plant brings an average of 4 kg.

Other valuable qualities of the variety:

  • fruits are easily transported. This is facilitated by the dryness of the separation of the berries;
  • harvesting can be mechanized;
  • undemanding to agricultural technology;
  • resistant to diseases such as anthracnose and kidney mites.

Cons of Black Pearl:

  • phased harvesting due to non-simultaneous maturation of the brush;
  • soft currant aroma;
  • sour aftertaste.

Currant berries of the Black Pearl variety have a rounded shape and weight up to 5 g

A distinctive quality of the variety is the increased content of pectins in berries. This is true for those who actively use currants for jams and jellies.

The sweetest black currant

Currants are considered the sweetest, in which the greatest amount of useful sugars and the least - acids. Such varieties have a pleasant taste with a slight sourness, as well as high winter hardiness.

Green haze

Variety characteristics:

  • average ripening period;
  • the berry weighs about 1.5 g;
  • yield about 4 kg;
  • undemanding care.

The main drawback of currants is susceptibility to such a pest as a kidney mite.

The Green Smoke variety has one of the highest rates of sugar content in fruits (12.2%).

Bagheera

A variety of medium ripening, high yield. The berry weighs about 1.5 g, it contains 10.8% sugar. Bagira has many advantages:

  • resistance to heat and drought;
  • self-pollination;
  • the same fruit size;
  • friendly ripening of berries;
  • suitability for transportation.

The main disadvantage of the variety is its weak resistance to currant diseases.

The variety is especially popular among those who are fond of herbal medicine, because the foliage of the plant is preserved almost until frost.

Ripening of Bagheera currant berries occurs simultaneously

Pygmy

Characteristic features of the variety:

  • large-fruited currants with a berry weight of up to 5 g and a high yield annually;
  • berries have a pronounced currant aroma;

The sweetest black currant - video

Bred in the Netherlands dwarf variety black currant Ben Sarek with a bush height of no more than 90 cm (with an average currant height of 1.2–2 m). The plant is adapted to a cool climate, has large berries with a winey, sweet taste, gives a stable, evenly ripening crop.

Earliest and latest varieties

The early varieties are those that you start harvesting in June.

Summer resident: early currant

This variety is distinguished by:

  • stable yield. The bush is self-pollinated, therefore it is less dependent on weather conditions and insects;
  • sweet taste. The variety will be appreciated by lovers of currants, since the characteristic sour aftertaste is practically not present in the berries of the Dachnitsa;
  • short stature. With a high yield, the lower branches will lie on the ground;
  • resistance to winter cold. The plant tolerates a drop in temperature to -32 ° C well, but if flowering occurs in spring frosts, the bush requires protection (smoke or shelter).

Currant berries of an early variety Dachnitsa will be especially appreciated by lovers of sweets, since there is practically no sourness in them.

Exotic: early variety

Pros of the variety:

  • large-fruited;
  • good winter hardiness;
  • sufficient yield (up to 3 kg per bush);
  • the comfort of picking berries due to the presence of a straight thick brush axis, reminiscent of a grape;
  • immunity to powdery mildew.

Cons of Exotic:

  • the plant does not tolerate drought well, therefore, in the heat, systematic watering is required;
  • in conditions of high humidity, the berries are prone to decay;
  • the peel of the fruit is thin, so they will not tolerate long-term transportation;
  • low immunity to fungal diseases (except for powdery mildew).

The early currant clusters Exotica have a straight, thick brush axis, which greatly facilitates harvesting.

The Exotic currant has berries the size of a cherry, I recommend.

Ultra early variety Sorceress - video

Bummer: late currant

The name Lazyboy was given due to the fact that it ripens in August, when currants of other varieties have already been harvested.

Variety characteristics:

  • large-fruited, but the yield is low (about 1 kg);
  • dessert-flavored berries with a sweet aftertaste and pronounced aroma;
  • the fruits do not tolerate transportation well due to the thin peel and pulp of medium density.

Fruiting of currants of the Lazytay variety occurs in late July-early August

I want to recommend one more variety of black currant - Lazy .. My bush is three years old, fully "variety testing" took place this year, in the past the berries were smaller and very few .. Late, with sweet large berries, I took off the harvest today and was pleasantly surprised taste .. I recommend to all lovers of black currant in middle lane Russia.

Varieties for cultivation in Ukraine

Here, in last years conditions unfavorable for currants are noted. High spring temperatures lead to rapid evaporation of moisture from the soil. In summer, the weather is hot and dry. Currant varieties for growing in Ukraine should be chosen according to the degree of adaptation, primarily to drought and high temperatures.

Suitable for cultivation in all regions of Ukraine varieties:

  • Pygmy,
  • Lazy person,
  • Nuclear.

Among the promising ones are the Jubilee Digging and the Beauty of Lviv.

Jubilee Digging

A mid-ripening variety bred by the Institute of Horticulture of the NAAS with a high yield annually. Sweet and sour taste, large and one-dimensional berries, and resistance to changes climatic conditions, diseases and pests make the variety especially popular among Ukrainian gardeners.

The fruits of the currant variety Yubileynaya Kopanya are large, one-dimensional, ripen together

I would call Jubilee Digging an excellent variety on a 5-point scale. Among the late ripening Ukrainian varieties on my site, only Krasa Lvova is better.

ABBA

Beauty of Lviv

The variety is of local selection, therefore, it is well adapted to the climatic features of Ukraine. This large-fruited currant with a dessert taste and a high yield has a strong immunity to major diseases and pests.

Berries of currant varieties Krasa Lvova grow shiny, black, medium-sized, with a strong elastic skin

To achieve the maximum effect in growing black currants, do not stop at one variety, experiment. Plant plants with different fruiting times. This will prolong the presence of fresh berries in your diet, understand your taste priorities and pinpoint the most promising variety for your site.

As you know, everyone an experienced summer resident there are at least a few bushes of early berries that allow you to feast on the fruits even before the start of the main season. They ripen 15-19 days earlier - this is their main advantage, due to which the popularity of such berries has become very large. It is also worth noting that early varieties do not need careful care and, before their fruiting, it is practically not required to perform any agrotechnical operations and treatments with pesticides. The only case is treatment when absolutely necessary (an invasion of a pest or a massive attack of weeds in the fields).

But there is a large number of disadvantages of early berries. Firstly, their taste is not bad, but much inferior to species with medium and late ripening... They are more exposed to fungal diseases and infections after fruiting; constant care is required before the onset of cold weather. The difference in fruit is also worth noticing. As a rule, late varieties are much larger, in addition, they keep very well and contain a large amount of dry matter. This makes them ideal for drying, freezing and preservation. Early ripe berries are very poor raw and, as a rule, are unsuitable for long-term transportation.

Nevertheless, in any household there should be early currant bushes that would delight you with delicious sugar fruits already at the beginning of summer. Depending on their taste, size, aroma, they can be subdivided into appropriate groups.

The largest blackcurrant varieties of early ripening

Every summer resident wants to grow large berries, which will become not only the pride of the entire site, but also a worthy decoration for any table. Some varieties can form fruits weighing up to 7-8 grams, and this weight is average, not a record. Some berries can reach 12-15 g or more, thus providing incredible value for desserts. Consider the most popular heavyweights.

  1. Selechenskaya currant. The most popular variety in Russia, as well as in many other neighboring countries. It was withdrawn back in 1995 and was practically not modernized - it was impossible to improve it. Until now, it remains one of the most productive, as it gives up to 145 quintals per hectare or up to 4-5 kg of berries from one bush. Characteristic feature of this bush are its long clusters, on which, as a rule, at least 12-16 berries are formed. Average weight one - 6 grams, but a large number of fruits grows up to 12-17 grams, which is of great value for summer residents. Spreading bush, it is desirable to tie it up. He loves moisture very much, therefore, if you want a lot of large fruits, you will have to provide the shrub with constant watering (watering somewhere every 3 days in spring and summer). Black currant Selechenskaya responsive to fertilizers, it is advisable to feed it with ammonium nitrate and karbofos.
  2. Gulliver. A good variety of berries, which has gained great popularity in the southern regions of Russia. For its growth, it is desirable to have a lot of sun and high humidity... With ideal care, it gives 2.4-3.4 kilograms of berries, each weighing at least 2 grams. The average weight of one fruit is 3.1 grams. Some grow up to 5.1-6.1 g, but this is extremely rare (mainly, the number of such fruits is no more than 3.3% of the total harvest). The taste is excellent, although there is a slight "sourness". But it is thanks to her that the berry is liked by most gardeners. The term until technical ripening is 55-67 days from the moment of flowering. It is used for freezing, canning, making mousses and preserves, fresh consumption. The leaves are very valuable and are often used as spices during the preservation of fruits and vegetables. A tea or decoction made from leaves has excellent healing properties and contains a large amount of ascorbic acid. Black currant Gulliver contains a record amount of vitamin C (156 mg) and antioxidants.
  3. Currant Sibylla... One of the most known varieties of these berries, which has a slightly reddish tint at the stage of technical ripeness. The fruits are relatively large, the average weight reaches 3.9 grams, and the largest of them can grow up to 6-8 g. The bushes are not spreading, they have a neat appearance, therefore, they are often planted in order to decorate the garden plot. From one bush with good care and the accompanying weather, you can harvest up to 3 kg, which is a good indicator for this type of currant. Increased winter hardiness and unpretentiousness to moisture made it one of the most revered varieties in the country. In industry Sibylla is equally popular. It is recommended for export and industrial cultivation, has an average yield of 128-131 c / ha.

These were the largest varieties that can delight you with berries weighing 5.8 and even 10 grams! They have a good dessert taste, a characteristic delicate smell, and are very beneficial to health. There are more than 70 black-fruited varieties, but the ones listed above are the most acclimatized and high-yielding, they are recommended for cultivation in the southern, central and even northern regions Russia.

Not all is gold that is extremely large. It is the small berries that are the most delicious, since the sugar content in them is exactly the same as in large fruits (relative to the proportion of dry matter). Based on this logic, it turns out that the smaller the fruits, the sweeter they are. This statement does not always work, since there are varieties of berries with "sourness" or a little bitterness, so let's figure out what would be most delicious to plant in the garden.

  1. Currant Raisin. From the name you can immediately guess that the berry contains great amount sugar and incredibly sweet. The total percentage of all sugars is 10.2%, which is very rare for currants. It is also worth noting its benefits for the body, because the increased consistency of ascorbic acid (aka vitamin C) significantly increases protective properties organism. Moreover, the bush is very hardy and easily tolerates spring temperature extremes, cold in winter and attacks of most pests. Only 1-2 treatments with a systemic insecticide during the growing season allows you to get rid of all insect pests. The yield is low, about 11 tons per hectare, the fruits reach 3.2 grams. Raisin - a variety that is resistant to many pests, especially kidney mites.
  2. Currant Summer resident. This variety is the result of the joint work of Dutch scientists and Russian breeding sites. Thanks to excellent acclimatization on the territory of Russia, this plant has become extremely resistant to frost in winter and can withstand up to -35 degrees. Among other things, it is extremely sweet and contains up to 9.2% sugars. The consistency of ascorbic acid is also not inferior to the best varieties in Russia - 170 mg per 100 grams of product. The fruits are relatively large, some of them reach 5-6 grams, and the average is 3.9-4.9 grams. With standard care, up to 121 tons per hectare can be harvested.
  3. Pygmy. A favorite variety of many summer residents, which is distinguished by its taste- it is extremely sweet and aromatic, suitable for preparing many desserts and simply for consumption from the bush. The berries are medium-sized, only 2-3 grams, but contain 9.5% sugar and up to 214 mg of ascorbic acid per 100 g of product. The bushes are slightly spreading, the stems are very thick and strong, due to which it easily tolerates large frosts in winter and temperature drops in summer. On one brush (which has a length of up to 11 centimeters), from 6 to 22 berries can be formed, all of which are of the same size. Excellent presentation and good keeping quality made it one of the the best berries for export to neighboring countries and on market counters.
  4. Dobrynya. It is also a good variety, but its main drawback is small fruits and low yield compared to heavy weights, which yield up to 10 tons per hectare. Even with good care, you can harvest no more than 1.5 kilograms from one bush, but the berries will be extremely tasty and nutritious. They contain at least 130 mg of ascorbic acid, as well as up to 9% sugars - this is the main advantage of the variety. The bushes are small, not spreading, have an excellent decorative view, that's why many gardeners liked it.

These were the tastiest black berries you can plant in your front garden. They are perfectly acclimatized in the middle lane, and are also recommended for cultivation in many southern regions of Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus. They do not have record harvests or giant fruits, but jam and mousses are the best in the country!

Throughout Russia, black currant grows near every house. Undemanding to the composition of the soil, accustomed to harsh winters, it yields even in the subarctic zone... This garden culture bears fruit even in Yakutia and the Khibiny, reached Sakhalin in the east and Krasnodar Territory in the south.

She inherited such a universal adaptation to the whims of the weather from a wild ancestor - the forest currant. There are a lot of varieties and varieties, so it is very difficult for a novice gardener (and not only) to make a choice.

What are the differences between the varieties:

  1. By appointment,
  2. Ripening terms,
  3. The size of the berries,
  4. Productivity,
  5. The taste of berries
  6. Resistance to diseases and pests,
  7. Winter hardiness ...

It is very easy to understand the purpose of the variety:

  • berries are tasty on their own - this is a dessert variety,
  • thin-skinned, but too sour - boil jam or grind with sugar;
  • berries with a dense strong skin are frozen,
  • universal (understandable).

In order not to be mistaken, you need to choose only zoned varieties.... Only on such bushes can you stably and without special efforts get a high yield.

Ripening terms, size of berries, their taste may differ not only from the region of cultivation, but even from watering or soil composition. Already at a distance of more than 200 kilometers, the characteristics of the variety can change significantly.

If you live in the middle lane, you should take a closer look at these varieties:

Among the fruit-bearing ones, the Selechinskaya, because he combined the best qualities of his ancestors - wild currant and gooseberry.

Most varieties have an Achilles heel - they cannot grow without abundant watering. But copes calmly with both summer drought and frosty winters, which makes its choice suitable for any region of Russia.

To all this, also add five kilograms from a bush of large berries the size of a cherry... There are no special advantages in varieties intermediate between early and late ones. They give fewer berries, and this is not because the varieties are not good enough.

It's just that the period of their fruiting falls on the period of summer heat and dry wind.

The main purpose of these varieties is to fill a niche in front of the later, most productive varieties.

Ripening of late varieties of berries lasts from late July to. the end of autumn. Wherein the Kipiana variety has a yield of up to 5 kg and is resistant to powdery mildew and is not afraid of kidney mites.

When choosing a super-large-fruited variety, one should not forget that usually such plants require additional feeding and watering, especially in dry summers and if they are planted on sandy soils.

The most resistant varieties

They practically do not get sick, which means - the harvest is ecologically cleanest among the varieties

  • drought tolerant- Dobrynya, Gulliver, Izumnaya;
  • disease resistant- Sibylla, Gross, Gamma, Gulliver, Sevchanka, Globus, Muravushka;
  • frost-resistant- Sibylla, Venus, Romance, Globe, Pearl, Rhapsody, Vigorous;
  • pest resistant- Orlovia, Kipiana, Grazia, Gamma.

Frost-resistant black currant variety Pearl

Gourmets also have plenty to choose from

If the score is higher than 4.5 points, the variety is assigned to the dessert category: Centaur, Perun, Selechenskaya, Selechenskaya-2, Nadia, Venus, Oryol waltz, Slastena, Beaumond, Nestor Kozin, Tisel, Uralskaya sweet, Raisin, Black eye.

The variety Raisin has interesting feature: after ripening, the berries do not crumble from the stalk, but gradually “rave”, hence the name of the variety.

The best of the early varieties- Pearl, Black Boomer, Raisin, Legend.

Lazy person- late variety with very large berries up to 6 grams.

What's new for residents of the Moscow region?

The weather in the Moscow region is relatively mild winter and quite warm humid summers. This is the climate that black currants like. However, the soil composition differs even in the districts of the Moscow region.

It is necessary to select varieties not according to yield or taste, but exclusively, adapted to the specifics of the soil composition of the region.

The most famous varieties among summer residents: Veloy, Memory Lisavenko, Sudarushka, Dobrynya, Yadrenaya.

To feast on berries all season, you must choose from the following varieties:

It should be noted that late varieties for the Moscow region is far from the best choice... Summer residents simply may not have time to take advantage of all the best qualities the same, for example, Lazy - the berries may not ripen.

The Yadrenaya variety, as already noted, was highly appreciated by summer residents for many literally unique qualities:

  • high yield,
  • very large plum berries,
  • compact bush,
  • self-fertility,
  • winter hardiness,
  • early maturity.

Even if you are overwhelmed by the size and taste of the berries, there are still some characteristics to be found out.

What characteristics should you pay attention to first of all:

  • self-fertility (no additional pollinator is needed),
  • susceptibility to diseases and pests,
  • resistance to spring frosts and other weather factors.

If you plant several varieties nearby (even self-fertile ones), there will be much more berries.

Therefore, stress-resistant Gulliver will not create problems with weather whims, and Smolyaninova's gift will delight you with an early harvest even without chemical treatments for pests and diseases.

Another gift for fans of ecological products - variety Orlovskaya serenada, which is practically not afraid of kidney mites, and from fungal diseases - powdery mildew.

The Selechenskaya-2 variety, with its increased ecological plasticity, will not be afraid of a lack of water and unsuitable soils. As a result, the summer resident will receive from the bush his required 5 kilograms of berries the size of a cherry.

Conclusion

It is very difficult to choose the right variety of black currant bush., but the right decision this problem exists for an ordinary summer resident. This is to acquire zoned modern varieties different terms ripening. Their high yield, unpretentiousness, harmonious taste have already been confirmed by household plots countrywide.

Blackcurrant is the most common berry grown in temperate climates. It is planted in almost every summer cottage or garden plot. And of course, all gardeners try to choose the most the best varieties black currant, which give bountiful harvest and at the same time the fruits have excellent taste. Taking into account these needs, in recent years, breeders have bred and presented new varieties of healthy berries, distinguished by very tasty and large fruits.

There are a lot of types of black currant (about 150), and hybrid varieties even more, and in order to somehow organize this long list, the culture should be classified into the following categories:

  • by the ripening period (early, mid-maturing, late, very late);
  • by the size of the fruit (large-fruited, medium and small-fruited);
  • on resistance to diseases and external factors (resistant, medium-resistant and low-resistant);
  • by yield (varieties with high yield, medium-yielding, as well as low-yielding);
  • by sugar content or sweetness of berries (sour, moderately sour and sweet);
  • by the method of pollination.

The best

It is clear that it is quite difficult to choose the best varieties of black currant among the whole variety. It should be noted that berries of any variety contain approximately the same composition of vitamins, microelements, have excellent healing and prophylactic properties. The only difference in composition is the glucose level: the sweeter the berries, the more glucose they contain.

As for the main characteristics, each gardener should choose a variety of currants based on their own preferences and climatic conditions. Climate and soil have crucial- for example, out of almost two hundred varieties of this crop, only 50 are successfully grown in the climate of the central zone and the Moscow region. The vitality of the culture is also important: resistance to diseases, cold resistance.

Obviously, the greatest interest among gardeners is caused by early ripening crops with large (3-6 grams) and sweet berries. In addition, recently, new high-yielding varieties have been developed that do not require cross-pollination, as well as hybrids, for example, currants crossed with gooseberries - a high-vitamin product, outwardly similar to black currants, but much tastier and healthier.

According to gardeners, early and large-fruited varieties such as Black Boomer and Pearl are the best for growing in the climate of the Moscow Region. Legend is a very high-yielding early variety with sweet, albeit medium-sized berries (3-4 g). There are also interesting dessert varieties with a high content of glucose and pectins: Lydia, Temptation, Izolda, Minusinskaya sweet, Solomon, Kalinovka, Knyazhna, Ocharovanie. It should be noted that in recent years, Ukrainian breeders have also developed new varieties that have become very popular in Ukraine, and are also suitable for cultivation in the latitudes of the Moscow region: Sofievskaya, Vernissage, Suite Kievskaya, Kazatskaya, Amethyst, Chereshnevaya, Krasa Lvova.

Large-fruited

Varieties with large berries include the following:

  • Vigorous - a high-yielding crop with very large (the size of quail egg) and sweet fruits, with proper care it gives up to 10 kg of berries from the bush, and the branches under the weight of the bunches already sag;
  • Ariadna is a high-yielding mid-early variety with sweet and sour large fruits, the culture is very resistant to cold and disease, planted in a sunny area can yield 7-8 kg of yield per bush, according to gardeners, it grows well in the soils of the Moscow region;
  • Gross - mid-season variety resistant to diseases and frost, high yield, large, fragrant berries with smooth skin, located 8-10 pieces per brush;
  • Belarusian sweet - a culture resistant to cold and disease with good taste of berries, suitable for grown for industrial purposes in the non-chernozem zone of most regions of Russia, including the Moscow region;
  • Venus is an early winter-hardy self-fertile variety, high yield, smooth fruits, big size(5-6 g), high in sugar;
  • Dobrynya is a high-yielding disease-resistant crop with smooth large (5-7 g) berries, is the most successful development of domestic breeders, suitable for growing in different regions Russia: in the middle lane, southern regions and the climate of the Moscow region;

  • Gulliver is a mid-season high-yielding culture of domestic selection with large berries, 10-17 pieces on each hand, resistant to disease and cold;
  • Exotics is an early self-fertile variety with good winter hardiness, large fruits are sometimes larger in size than cherries, and a dense, smooth skin allows you to store and transport berries for a long time;
  • Cossack - mid-season high-yielding variety, undemanding to soil, climate, disease resistant, fruit weight is 5-7 g;
  • The effect is a high-yielding and fairly hardy mid-season crop with large sweet and sour berries, resistant to disease, cold and drought.

Of course, these are far from all varieties of currants with large berries. This list may number several dozen more, but it will be fair to say that some of large-fruited varieties do not differ in high taste, while others are simply not suitable for growing in the climate of the middle and central zone.

Super sweet

If currants are grown not for industrial purposes, but for yourself and your family, it makes sense to choose not only large-fruited, but also sweet varieties. Sweet berries include berries in which the sugar content exceeds 10% - these are the fruits that are ideal for making jam and eating as a dessert.   • Curiosity - early ripening currants (mid-June) with large and tasty fruits, self-fertile, cold-resistant, but susceptible to kidney mites;

  • The Little Prince - cold-resistant currants of early ripening (mid-June), small fruits (2-3 g), quite tasty (sugar content 10.7%), resistant to diseases, but can be affected by kidney mites;
  • Overture - currants of a very early ripening period (early June), dense bunches, consisting of 10-15 small fruits (up to 2 g), resistant to cold and disease, brought to the VNIIR im. Vavilov as a universal highly productive crop suitable for cultivation in the non-chernozem zone;
  • Nara - the time of full ripening occurs in mid-June, resistant to cold, drought, fungal diseases, mites, medium-sized fruits (2-3 g), juicy with a sweet and sour taste.

Whichever currant you choose, it is important to know that maximum productivity is maintained for the first 7-10 years. Then the fruits become small, and the bush itself gradually degenerates. To get a bountiful harvest of a useful product every year, you need to regularly prune branches that are more than three years old. Thus, the shoots will be regularly renewed and give a high yield.
