Ceiling in the bathroom.

When it comes to creating a ceiling in a bathroom, many questions begin to appear on the topic: "What can be done so that the ceiling is not afraid of water?" Or: "What to make the ceiling in the bathroom?" You should know that today the building materials market is ready to provide you with a huge selection of different means, using which you can make a wonderful ceiling. Moreover, to make it beautiful, you do not have to give a huge amount of money.

The first way to decorate the ceiling, with which we will begin our description, is exactly the kind described above: good and inexpensive (see photo above). Its name is siding or, more correctly, a PVC panel. This material is a 25mm wide plastic strip. On sale dies are 2.5m long, 2.7m long. and 3m. Carefully plan the location of the PVC panels before installation, and then purchase a strip of such a length that, in the end, the amount of waste is minimal. PVC is mounted on a wooden or metal frame. In the case of a damp room, it is of course better to use metal. Of the accessories, you only need a plinth for plastic panels. Dies, as a rule, are fastened joint to joint, without forming a seam. Thanks to this simple material, you can independently make a good ceiling in the bathroom, even with the condition that you do not have experience and special tools.

Advantages:

  1. Simple, quick installation;
  2. Low cost;
  3. No need for preparatory work of the foundation;
  4. Durability;
  5. No need for further finishing work;
  6. Nice appearance.

Disadvantages:

  1. Weak strength;
  2. The inability to create a ceiling of a complex shape;
  3. A relatively small selection of colors.

The next type is a conventional plaster ceiling.

This look is undoubtedly a classic of the "genre". It is a layer of finish applied to the base surface of the ceiling base. Like the previous type that we described, a plaster ceiling will not "pull" a lot of money, but its device will be more difficult for you if you carry out repairs yourself, with your own hands and do not yet have sufficient experience.

To create such a ceiling, you will need a start putty (coarser fraction) and a finish putty (with a fine fraction to create a perfectly flat and smooth surface). You will also need sandpaper with a fine stone, a primer, and moisture resistant paint. Additional elements include a ceiling plinth made of expanded polystyrene, etc.

Advantages:

  1. Low cost;
  2. Neat appearance;
  3. Durability;
  4. Reliability;
  5. Strength.

Disadvantages:

  1. The need to prepare the foundation;
  2. The need for further finishing;
  3. The complexity of finishing with the condition of lack of experience;
  4. With all the neatness, the appearance is difficult to make effective. This is a simple ceiling that will surprise no one.

False ceiling in the bathroom.

Few have not heard about this wonderful species, but, nevertheless, let's say a few words about it. A drywall sheet is a gypsum lined with cardboard on both sides. On the sale of gypsum board there are ordinary wall, ordinary ceiling, moisture resistant and fireproof. All types have a size of 1.2 m in width and 2.5 m in length, with the exception of refractory cardboard, the length of which is 3 m. There are also differences in thickness. Ceiling conventional plasterboard - 9mm, all others have a size of 12mm. Since we are talking about the ceiling in the bathroom, it is not difficult to guess that it is necessary to use a moisture-resistant gypsum board. Since it is relatively heavy, be careful with the fasteners. You will need a dowel-nails for the metal frame on which the sheets are attached, as well as 25mm self-tapping screws for attaching drywall to this frame. The metal elements of the frame are fastened together with "bugs" (self-tapping screw 3.5x11). Since the possibilities of the frame design allow you to create ceilings of even complex shapes, the number of component parts is usually not small.

Advantages:

  1. There is no need to prepare the base;
  2. Excellent spectacular appearance;
  3. Reliability;
  4. Durability.

Disadvantages:

  1. The need for finishing;
  2. With complex shapes, the ceiling can be costly;
  3. Complex installation;
  4. Not suitable for low rooms (the structure “eats up” a lot of height).

Pay attention to the following photo of the ceiling in the bathroom.

Excellent flat seamless mirror surface - stretch ceiling. The last couple of years has been enjoying "wildly" popularity. The reason for this is not difficult to understand. The ceiling has almost no flaws. Perfect for bathroom and toilet, as it is completely moisture resistant. In case of flooding by neighbors, it is able to retain a huge amount of water in itself. Despite the fact that the stretch ceiling is not only matte, but also mirror-glossy, you cannot see the settled dust on it. The reason for this is the special material on which the dust simply cannot fix. Which ceiling to choose: - matte or glossy, of course you decide.

More about the advantages:

  • Very nice appearance;
  • Practical reliable ceiling;
  • Does not require foundation preparation;
  • Does not require further finishing;
  • Protects against flooding;
  • Durability;
  • Wide range of colors;
  • The ceiling will not crack;
  • Fast installation subject to experience;
  • Low cost.

Disadvantages:

  • Fear of mechanical damage;
  • Inability to carry out repairs;
  • The impossibility of installation without experience and a special tool (but there are exceptions to everything).

And finally, armstrong slatted ceiling.

This type of ceiling is more often used in public buildings, but it has also found its application in the baths and kitchens of our houses. Despite the fact that this material is made of metal, it is not heavy, and it is not afraid of the effects of moisture.

Armstrong is attached to the base ceiling with metal hangers. On sale you can find a wide variety of this finishing material. Typically, this type of division goes into the color scheme and the method of connecting the dies to each other. By the way, Armstrong dies can be attached seamlessly. Or, at the junction, forming a seam with different depths and widths.

Advantages:

  1. Durability;
  2. Reliability;
  3. Strength;
  4. No need to prepare the foundation;
  5. No further finishing required;
  6. Simple installation.

Disadvantages:

  1. High price;
  2. A small selection of colors;
  3. The inability to create a ceiling of complex shape.

Summarize.

Each ceiling in the bathroom described above has its own specific advantages and disadvantages, therefore, based on them, we can draw a certain conclusion.

PVC panels better suited where repairs are done in a hurry, or even temporary. For example, in a rented apartment, etc.

Suspended and stretch ceiling, especially in combination with each other, are best suited for apartments with permanent use. You can always admire such ceilings, and most importantly, your guests will definitely pay attention to them. In addition, the use of these particular types will certainly not make you regret, since stretch and suspended ceilings are not afraid of cracking, which means they will retain their beautiful appearance for a long time.

Concerning armstrong, heavy metallic color and texture, definitely not for everybody. It is ideal to use this material in public places. It is undoubtedly practical and reliable, but at home you sometimes want comfort, especially when it comes to a bathroom, which is better done in warm soft colors.
