In Provence and country-style rooms, the ceiling is made of wood. If the height allows, it is additionally decorated with logs and beams. This technique is used to create rustic interiors.

Walls

The backsplash over the sink, stove and countertop should be ceramic tiles. Today this surface is also covered with plastic or other modern materials. They are matched in tone to the main color of the kitchen, and can also contrast with it.

Open shelves will also fit into the interior, on which beautiful jars of cereals and spices are placed.

Floor cabinets are placed under a large countertop, which is made of natural stone, wood or dense plastic. The obligatory furniture set includes a table and chairs. If the room is spacious, you can put a sofa and even armchairs here. The table is decorated with a tablecloth or coasters for hot dishes, chairs - with beautiful pillows, a sofa - with a knitted blanket that will protect the upholstery from pollution.

Stove or fireplace

Tip 1. Choose the style of the kitchen interior in accordance with the style of the facade of the house and the features of the area

As a rule, the style of the interior of the kitchen of a country house (and other rooms) is formed based on the tastes of its inhabitants, as well as taking into account the style of the facade of the house itself. Sometimes the choice is influenced by the features of the area where the house is located. Let's say its history or proximity to a river / sea. It's so great when the interior, exterior and surroundings of the house are a natural continuation of each other. Here are some tips to help you decide:

In classic mansions and cottages, faced with brick or stone, classic interiors in the style are appropriate: empire, eclecticism, chinoiserie, French or, as well as a more democratic American style.

In wooden houses made of timber or logs, the most organic kitchen will look like: rustic, eco, in Gustavian (Swedish Empire) and, of course, huts (for log houses) or a noble estate (see photo below).

In modern cottages with panoramic windows, most often, or eco.

In siding houses, Scandinavian and "rustic" interiors, as well as simplified classic (American) and industrial styles, are most appropriate.

If the house is located by the sea / river / lake, then you can choose Provence style.

Tip 2. To make your kitchen comfortable, follow the "working triangle" rule when planning

According to this rule, three strategically important areas - sink, stove and refrigerator - should be located next to each other, forming a triangle.

The distance from the stove to the sink should be at least 60 cm and not more than 180 cm. It is good to place the food preparation area in this gap. The distance from the sink to the refrigerator can be from 45 cm to 2 m. In this gap there is a “loading and unloading area”, as well as auxiliary kitchen appliances, for example, an electric kettle, a toaster, etc.

Tip 3. The most convenient kitchen layout is U-shaped, the most versatile is L-shaped

From the point of view of the "working triangle", the most successful layouts are:

U-shaped - when furniture and work points are arranged in a U-shape, it turns out to cook while standing practically in one place, making only turns with the body. True, for such a layout, the width of the room should be no more than 3.2 m, and better - no more than 2.4 m, otherwise the distance between the side parts of the headset will become too large.

Island - no matter how you arrange the furniture in the work area, especially if you equip it with a stove and / or sink. However, even the smallest island requires space, because there must be at least 1 meter passages around it. We talked in more detail about the arrangement of the island in Council No. 4 (see below).

The most versatile layouts are:

L-shaped - a little less convenient, but the most versatile furniture arrangement scheme, which is especially relevant in a rectangular shape. Choosing such a layout, it is advisable to put the refrigerator in one line with the sink, and not the stove.

Linear is a versatile, but the most inconvenient kitchen layout option. Due to the fact that the working areas are arranged in one row, during cooking, the cook has to walk back and forth the extra meters more than once, which means wasting time and effort. However, for small kitchens, this option is often the only possible solution.

A two-row (parallel) layout is suitable for:

Two-row - suitable for kitchens with a width of no more than 3.2 m, and ideally no more than 2.4-2.5 m.In this case, the stove and sink are placed side by side in one line, and the refrigerator along with the oven and microwave are on the opposite side ... Sometimes a dining table is placed between two rows of furniture, as shown in the photo below.

Tip 4: If your kitchen has an area of more than 18 sq. m install desktop-island

The island is a super-functional table that can act as a food preparation area, a storage area for utensils and groceries, a breakfast and snack bar. You can also build in a stove, sink, wine cabinet, or a small refrigerator.

This assistant is especially relevant for:

Kitchens with inconvenient linear layouts;

The kitchen is less than 18 square meters. meters instead of an island, you can install a peninsula, which is more compact due to the end, abutting against the wall or headsets.

Tip 5. If the kitchen is a walk-through, the working points should be placed so that the passage always remains free

If the kitchen is a walk-through, for example, is combined with an entrance hall, has access to a terrace or backyard, then the working area (the same "triangle" of a stove, sink and refrigerator) must be planned so that it does not intersect with the passage. Then the rush of households back and forth will not interfere with the person involved in cooking or cleaning.

Remember that the width of the passage should be at least 1 m, ideally 120 cm or more.

By the way, in a walk-through kitchen it is great to use a bar counter, an island or a peninsula as a space divider.

If you have the opportunity to install / move the sink to the window, then by all means use it. So you can enjoy nature, the backyard lawn, or at least the sky above the cottage village every day while doing your daily activities. However, a significant lengthening of communications is not always desirable.

... in whole or in part, replacing them with open shelves if the roof slopes overhang too low. This way you do not clutter up the interior and make good use of the walls under the slopes. In this case, the lower pedestals should be equipped mainly with drawers, which are much more convenient and roomy than cabinets. Tip 8. If the kitchen is combined with the living room or dining room, zone the space

Space zoning brings a sense of order and comfort to the interior. Here are a few tricks that are especially relevant for the kitchen in a country house:

Kitchen flooring and living / dining room flooring with different materials. So, for example, if in all rooms the floor is wooden, then in the kitchen it can be revetted with more practical tiles, porcelain stoneware or stone.

Partial insulation of the kitchen. To prevent clutter in the kitchen or dining room from spoiling the look of the living room, you can install sliding doors, curtains, panel curtains, screens, low or narrow partitions.

Lighting zoning. In the kitchen, it is enough to install a bright overhead light and furniture lighting, the lamps themselves should be laconic. But in the living room, the light should be multi-level and softer, when the main ceiling lighting is complemented by floor lamps, wall sconces and table lamps. At the same time, the lamps themselves can be elegant. Rustic kitchen layout options

As a rule, the number of windows in the kitchens of private houses is not limited to one. There are two or more of them, and they can go to different sides. The room receives a lot of daylight, so the use of materials in dark colors is allowed.

The area allows you to implement any ideas for the location of the working area, sink, furniture, dining area. There may also be a fireplace corner with cozy armchairs and a sofa for receiving guests.

A photo of a kitchen in a private house indicates that it can have both a familiar square or rectangular shape, and an unusual L-shaped one, with a niche, and have several doors to other rooms. This is rather a plus, as it makes it possible to implement the most daring design ideas.

If the kitchen is square, then its design will not cause any special problems. It is better to place the headset in one line along one of the walls or choose the corner option. If there is enough space, you can also consider the island placement of the working surface.

In recent years, studio kitchens have become popular. Usually they are combined with the living room. In such a kitchen, it is important to define all functional areas, in particular the recreation area.

For this, screens, light partitions, curly structures, a through rack with indoor plants or seedlings in pots and boxes are suitable. The bar counter will help separate the work area from the rest.

Country house kitchen styles

Now in more detail about the style in which to decorate the kitchen in a private house.

Minimalism is a style for small spaces. Suitable for both square and elongated kitchens. But with a complex configuration, this style is unlikely to work. According to the laws of minimalism, the room is decorated using monochromatic finishing materials.
