Wooden houses from round wood. Standard mistakes in the construction of log houses

Features of the manufacture of a log house from round wood

A round log house is a classic solution used in construction for centuries. Round wood is chosen as a material for houses and baths; with the help of log cabins, country houses and outbuildings are erected. Logs have high thermal insulation qualities, retaining all the advantages of a natural material. It is difficult to build the correct log house from round timber with your own hands, but it is quite possible, however, it is important to understand all the features of a wooden house.

Roundwood logs do not lose their popularity, since this material allows for natural exchange and at the same time has a very low thermal conductivity. Such houses will have a comfortable temperature and at the same time a light pleasant atmosphere with a wood scent that many people like. However, due to the round shape of the logs, the joints between them will need to be insulated.

A log house made of round timber can stand for a very long time, the best examples of wooden architecture stand for hundreds of years. For construction, several options for logs are used, and you need to decide on the most profitable of them:

  • A sanded log is a tree trunk from which only the top layer of bark is removed, knots and various irregularities are removed. At the same time, the natural protective layers of wood are preserved, so the material will be stronger and more durable. However, a sanded log always has different thicknesses at the base (butt) and the top, so they will need to be alternated when laying.
  • The rounded log is a type of round wood that has undergone special processing. Several layers of wood are removed, leaving only the densest middle part. In addition, the log acquires an even cylindrical shape, so it will be easier to use.
  • Sometimes a calibrated log is additionally distinguished. The sanded trunks are selected strictly according to the diameter (caliber), due to which the construction will be easier, and the walls will be smoother.

Whichever option you choose, a round log house will be the most beautiful solution: log houses have excellent aesthetic qualities, their appearance reminds of Russian fairy tales. The surface of the walls will have to be treated with a protective treatment, but it will preserve the natural color and texture of the wood, so the building will look great.

Preparatory work before construction

How to make a log house from round timber? Construction begins with the selection of a suitable material and preparation of the project. Pine houses remain the most popular in Russia: it is inexpensive, grows in almost all regions, and is easy to process.

Soft material will require additional protection, but it can last long enough. A more expensive solution is a house made of larch logs: this type of wood does not rot, but only becomes stronger due to moisture.

It is difficult to draw up a project on your own, especially if you have no experience in building drawings. However, you can find ready-made standard solutions and modify them in accordance with personal preferences. You can contact a specialized company where a professional architect will develop a project that is most suitable for all requests.

Stages of construction of a log house

When all the preparatory work is completed, you can start assembling the log house on the site. The owner must decide on the type of foundation of the house: if a major two-story building is being erected, a shallow strip foundation will be the best solution, and a columnar foundation is suitable for a light small building. The site is marked with pegs, between which ropes are stretched, after which you can lay the foundation strictly along the resulting lines.

The strip foundation is a monolithic concrete strip, which is poured along the entire perimeter of the building. The concrete is reinforced with a reinforcing cage, so the strip base remains one of the most durable and reliable.

After pouring the foundation, it needs to dry, it takes several weeks. Only then can the formwork be disassembled and proceed to the assembly of the log house.

The foundation requires careful waterproofing: roofing material is laid on it in several layers, bituminous mastic can also be used. The log house itself is assembled in several stages:

  • The first crown is assembled from the thickest, strongest and most reliable logs, which will have to withstand the weight of the house. From the underside, they are pulled up so that they can be laid flat on the foundation.

Usually, for log cabins made of round timber, the type of felling “into the bowl” is used: semicircular indentations are selected in the logs, with the help of which the corners of the frame are fastened. It is important that the bowls are as even as possible, then the wall will be reliable.

  • Before laying the next crown, roll insulation is laid on the log. Its use will allow you to avoid constant caulking: linen or jute fiber, moss or other materials will not release heat outside, and from the side, the inter-crown insulation is almost invisible.
  • The crowns of the log house are stacked one on top of the other, not forgetting about the openings for doors and windows according to the project. Usually, for professionals, the assembly work takes only a few days, a novice craftsman will have to carefully adjust the logs to each other, it will take time.
  • The last crown serves as a mauerlat - the roof rafters will rest on it. For log cabins, a classic gable roof with a large slope is usually used so that snow does not linger on it. When the last crown is laid, the ceiling beams are cut into it, and you can proceed to the installation of the rafters in the chosen way.
  • When the blockhouse of a round timber bath is assembled, it must be allowed to stand for at least six months in order for the shrinkage processes to complete and the wood to dry as much as possible. Before that, it must be treated with an antiseptic so that rot does not start.

Only when the finished log house is dry, you can proceed to insulation, external and internal decoration. It is imperative to insulate the sub-floor, roof, attic, less often additional wall insulation is used.

It will be easier to assemble a log house if you immediately purchase a ready-made house kit, in which all the logs are already fitted to each other and numbered. In any case, the house will be warm, reliable and durable.

Round House: Building Technologies

Small roundwood houses are buildings made of shredded wood. Such a structure can be handled in several ways: it can be disposed of, for example. the top layer of wood is preserved, which makes the walls stronger and increases their resistance to the negative effects of moisture and frost.

Another processing method provides logarithmic cylinders. In this case, only the top layers should be removed.

Roundwood houses. Traditionally Russian style

The rest is just a dense core. This method has advantages: the frame is produced much faster, but also disadvantages: the level of durability of the building is significantly reduced. But you have a well-rounded cabin.

The advantages of round wood

In general, roundwood has many advantages as a building material.

First, it is environmentally friendly, so you cannot be afraid to release harmful substances. Secondly, such diaries are small. They are not based on much, so you can even save some money. Thirdly, wood provides good air exchange. In this respect, the humidity in the building will be at a constant level.

Roundwood houses completely retain heat, which is especially important for our winter.

Even such houses are not very cold. Round timber easily withstands a lot of freezing and thawing.

How to build a winter house in the forest

A log house for a hunter, fisherman or hermit is the best thing that can be done from purely natural materials.

To build, you need a tool: a powerful hacksaw with large teeth, and a medium one with fine teeth for more delicate work. Further, two axes for rough and precise processing of wood, as well as for fastening wood without nails - a hand drill with a set drilled into wood. A medium sized hammer and preferably a plane for additional processing and manufacturing of wooden parts at home.

You also need files for sharpening the tool.

Next, we have to harvest wood for future logs from which we will assemble the house. The dimensions of the house and the structure can be any, but we need to build a small house in a short time, so the dimensions of the house and parameters are sacrificed - the speed of construction and the quality and aesthetics, in its modern concept.

For more or less comfortable living in modest conditions for 1 to 3 people, a house with a total area of about 20 sq. M. Is suitable ... this is 4/5 sq. M.

And so we begin the preparation, I will give an example of building a house by one person. First, in the forest, we need to select the main forest for subsequent felling. For this, tree trunks, even on all sides, with a minimum of knots and branches, with an average diameter of 30 cm, are suitable. The species of wood does not really matter to us, the main thing is smooth trunks.

We fill the selected trees with an ax and a hacksaw; it takes an average of 15-20 minutes to fill one tree.

Next, we process the trunk on the spot, clean the bark and leave it in place, so that the log lies across its entire plane to the ground, and it is better to put small pads under it for stasis so that the tree immediately begins to dry out and does not "lead" it. such logs are very large, it is about fifty large logs and 75 logs of a smaller diameter, for the manufacture of a roof frame, lathing, ceiling covering, their number is about 100 pieces.

The average harvesting speed, if not lazy, will be about three large logs already processed and five ten small logs. This is about one and a half two months. Then all these logs must be brought to the construction site and laid out on a sunny, ventilated place for subsequent drying, and it is better to do this gradually, that is, to cut down a certain amount of wood, and then pull it off and lay it out for drying. Choose the length of the logs based on your physical capabilities and the weight of the logs themselves.

The weight of a log with a diameter of 30cm. and 5m long. , can be from 50 to 120 kg, depending on the breed and humidity.

If there are no means of transport, such as a "cart", then it is better to cut all the logs in half and drag them this way, or if there is strength, then by dragging or on the shoulder. Then, when the two, three, month-long marathon with the preparation of building materials has ended, the couple will start building the house itself. To save time, we will not dig an underground and will not build a strong foundation.

To begin with, let's prepare a place, clean it up, align it horizontally and start laying the foundation of the house.

We choose from our logs those that are thicker and earlier felled, since they are already dry enough and we collect the base-foundation for the further construction of the house. The foundation is three crowns of logs assembled in a box, see P1. Putting it together, first we lay out four logs, mark the cutouts for the "locks", and cut it out. Locks or fixing methods may be different, but we will apply the simplest one, it's just that from one log we remove half of the log's thickness from the end, taking into account the other log, on which we do the same and after we have collected all four logs, we fix them with a drill with a drill of approximately 28-32 diameter or thicker, and we hammer in the prepared Chepigi, and so on, two more layers of logs, but in them it is necessary to choose longitudinal grooves for a denser and more voluminous connection of the logs horizontally, which we also fasten together on Chepigi.

Further, after we have assembled the base, we proceed to the assembly of the main walls, we take out the diameter of the walls outward in relation to the base by half a log and also collect to the very top while carefully adjusting the logs to each other, laying between them and all the cracks what kind of material for insulation and insulation, it can be dry grass moss, clay soil, or something else that suits.

When assembling the box, leave openings for the door and windows in advance. Further, when the box is finished at home, we lay the ceiling from the lighter logs that we have prepared, they can be fixed to save time, both round and for aesthetics, to give them a more or less even surface of the inner part with a stomp. the one in the house, they also need to be adjusted to the paid one to each other without leaving large gaps, and fixing them on the Chepigi to the walls.

When the ceiling is ready, we take on the roof, we start a ring of logs around the entire perimeter of the walls, adjust them and fix them. Next, we assemble the roof frame on them from our thin logs, first we put and fasten the base of the roof, this is the central beam and the straps holding it at the ends of the roof and in the center, and then we lathe it with smaller logs in diameter. Thatch, dry grass, or any other material that will be available can serve as a roof for the roof.

If this is grass, then we tie it into brooms-bunches and fix it layer by layer as a tile. Then, when the main thing is finished, we proceed to the floors. We make them out of logs, but first we will split them in two, do not walk on the round floor, although this is also an option.

For splitting, we need a large ax and a wooden sledgehammer (made on site).

House from "round timber", the first experience

Putting the log on an equal footing and fixing it with stakes, first with an ax we cut through the gaps on both sides, and then, starting from the end, we begin to split the log, you can also help yourself with wooden wedges, fibers that do not break or not so break can be sawed with a hacksaw directing the split in the right direction.

After the halved logs, it remains to process and assemble by laying them on the ledge resulting from the fact that the walls were taken out in relation to the base by half a log. After the main work is completed, it remains to assemble the door and window. For the door, first a massive jamb is cut down, which we carefully fit to the doorway and, with a plane or an ax, ideally align the surface that will adjoin the door itself, then, according to the size of the jamb, we assemble the door from carefully processed, thick logs.

To do this, they need to be given the shape of a bar or board and very tightly fit to each other, and then, having made grooves, drive in the transverse bars to completely fix the door, and then we hang the door on the hinges, if there are no hinges, then it is possible on rubber and even fabric, and we make the final adjustment of the door for a tighter fit and for less heat loss and drafts.

We do the same with the window as with the door, without making a separate frame, but simply fix the glass on the jamb, if there is no glass, then a film is also possible, but for less heat loss it must be put into 3 threads with a distance between each other to form a protective air cushion, and as a result, a decrease in heat loss.

After you already have your own stove, your home is almost completely ready for winter and further living, it remains only to smear the seams with clay, insulate the ceiling and fill up the filling, and then over time it will be possible to add an extension and modify everything and fix the imperfections.

It is impossible to say for sure about the period, since the conditions and possibilities may be different, and the period can be as long as two months for preparation and two for construction, or it can stretch up to 6-7 months and even until next year.

It is better to start such construction in spring or early summer, and then by the first snow you can have time to finish the house and breathe more freely. For clarity, some points are placed in the pictures, but these are not prerequisites for the construction of such a house, the methods of assembly and fastening depend on the availability of any tool and experience, and the construction time depends on this directly.

The technology of building a classic log house from round timber has been formed for centuries, and the ancient builders did it in the same way as today, but with a more primitive tool. Thanks to the use of new devices, a round house is built much faster, not inferior to time-tested samples in terms of reliability and environmental friendliness. Round timber is suitable for the quick construction of prefabricated house structures, saunas and baths, which have been worked out to the smallest detail by Scandinavians. In the Russian hinterland, centuries-old traditions are kept - how to build a house from round timber on your own.

Features of buildings made of round timber

As a building material for suburban households, dachas, houses, baths and outbuildings, erected using the log house technology, they use solid rounded logs - round timber. Natural wood has long been known for its thermal insulation properties, while such walls "breathe", which is not inherent in other materials. The tree, even when cut down, remains environmentally friendly - it naturally reacts to changes in temperature and humidity, ozonizes the air in the room and creates a warm atmosphere.

It is not as difficult to build a small round timber structure on your own as it seems to those who admire perfectly even rows of well-processed logs. But if you familiarize yourself in detail with the technology of building a house from round timber with your own hands, you will get a neat log house. There are several ways to erect wooden structures, and each involves a specific technology, and each has its own subtleties. Without studying the technology of the phased construction of timber houses, you can make small mistakes that cannot be corrected at the finishing stage.

What is the difference between a log house made of profiled timber

As a building material, round timber is harvested on the spot, therefore, wooden houses made of round timber do not imply the use of imported and well-dried raw materials. It is from here that the word "felling" came from - cut down and made at the place of growth of the main building material. A convenient way of assembling is with the so-called "cold" corner, but logging with a "warm" corner presupposes manual cutting and laying of "bowls". But it is they who give the houses a special completed shape and original decorativeness - a house made of round timber photo.

With any type of masonry, minor defects are inevitable - cracks and curvature of the walls. Some craftsmen advise making bowls in a serial way using a good tool. In order to avoid gaps between the round timber and other parts of the masonry, it is important to fill the insulation tightly, and after some shrinkage, duplicate this stage of work - to identify the cracks and clog it with a sealant. The blockhouse is assembled from various materials, including glued or profiled timber, from well-processed round timber, but insulation is required in any case.

Tip: You can purchase a prefabricated structure and build a house yourself - according to a scheme from numbered blanks. But usually this work is quickly and efficiently performed by professionals from the supplier.

What kind of wood to make a log house

Prices for wooden houses made of round timber vary greatly, and this depends on the way the logs are processed, the thickness and properties of the wood, sheathing, insulation and the general refinement of the structure. For a good log house, you need an even high-quality building material, but coniferous types of wood are preferred. Each variety has its own distinctive features:

  • pine is the most accessible and widespread material, but when it dries, it often forms sludge and small cracks;
  • larch is a high-quality moisture-resistant building material, which becomes stronger from moisture, it is allowed on the lower crowns and external decoration;
  • spruce is an excellent finishing material, well suited for interior partitions, enriches the air with healing resinous substances;
  • Fir is an excellent wood, but due to the fact that it is less common and more valuable, it rarely goes to the construction of houses from round timber.

Pine, spruce and larch are used for construction, and round timber from different types of wood is often combined. For example, larch and pine are laid on the lower rows, and spruce logs are higher. It is important to treat the pine with an antiseptic.

Tip: When there is enough larch in the region, this type of wood is preferable. It does not rot, and over time, moisture makes it more durable. It is not for nothing that piles in Venice are made of this type of wood, and it is simply irreplaceable in swampy areas.

Round timber harvested at the construction site is the most economical way of erecting wooden houses. Although glued laminated timber is a more durable and easy-to-install material, solid wood is still preferred. Glued laminated timber is a guarantee of the quality of wood, where even knots look quite aesthetically pleasing. It is treated with impregnations to protect against:

  • fungus;
  • ignition;
  • moisture and rotting;
  • damage by rodents and bugs.

However, all this inevitably affects the cost of houses made of laminated veneer lumber, therefore it will be much cheaper to build a house from round timber, and always add impregnation yourself.

The advantages of round timber houses

Round scaffolding has been in demand for several centuries for the construction of a house and auxiliary buildings. Such structures have many advantages:

  • natural material is irreplaceable in terms of environmental characteristics;
  • provides "breathing" at home and full cleaning of the environment from harmful impurities in a kind of microclimate;
  • has a rather low thermal conductivity;
  • the log house is able to independently maintain a sufficient temperature balance - it is not cold in winter and not hot in summer;
  • wood gives an unusually warm home atmosphere;
  • incomparable aroma of fresh wood, beneficial to health;
  • durability of the structure - the house is resistant to temperature changes, small seismic shocks and mechanical stress.

Features of working with round timber

A house made of solid round timber is a technological process thought out to the smallest detail, in which logs harvested at the installation site are used. That is why "log house" and "round timber" remain the most accurate and capacious definitions. Today, this method of building houses remains the most environmentally friendly and quite economical.

Almost all work is done by hand, but with the use of special tools, since it is impossible to cut down pines, remove bark and twigs and erect walls otherwise. In addition, the finished logs are additionally worked through - they make special selections and grooves, and accurate measurements are needed to select logs of the same section. In this case, larger logs are placed on the 5 lower rows, and higher - thinner ones. It is desirable that there is not a lot of difference visually in the diameter of the round timber. It is by these signs that it is noticeable whether the log house was made by a professional or a beginner.

Hand-processed round logs retain a natural protective layer under the bark. The masonry acquires its own individual appearance due to the special way of alternating the logs. Well-prepared round timber is quickly laid into the finished structure of a house or bath, especially when they were brought to readiness on a special woodworking machine. The more precise the processing and fitting of the material, the less it is additionally insulated.

Wooden buildings are erected from different types of logs, and they have their own differences:

1. Round log - round timber with the simplest type of processing, when the top layer is removed, leaving the most dense base. Such wood retains the basic properties of a natural material, while obtaining smooth and even cylindrical logs, which are convenient to lay in the walls.

2. Shredded log - a slightly processed tree trunk, from which only a layer of bark and knotty irregularities are removed. With this treatment, the protective layer under the bark remains intact. The strength of such a structure is very high, which is why the ancient huts and towers stood for 150-200 years. The logs retained their natural shape, so there was always a noticeable difference in the diameter of the base and the top. It is very important to alternate them during installation.

3. Calibrated log - finished processed trunks are sorted exactly by diameter or caliber. The most acceptable method of installation, especially for mass woodworking and building an entire cottage area. In this case, smooth walls are obtained from a commensurate round timber.

In any case, a well-laid log house turns out to be aesthetic and reliable, resembling illustrations for Russian epics - a house made of round timber photo.

Where to get a project for the construction of a log house from round timber

A pine log house is still popular in Russia, especially since the cost of a new house is relatively low, and the fashion for environmentally friendly building materials has revived old technologies that have been tested over the years. Conifers are common in many regions. The availability of woodworking machines simplifies the preparation of material for the installation of houses and outbuildings.

It is quite difficult to make a well-thought-out project of a round timber house without experience on your own, but you can make your own adjustments to the finished drawings. There are many ready-made architectural projects - in specialized magazines, books and websites. For an individual project development, it is better to contact a professional architect.

Building a log house is a project plus an appropriate suitable building material. The specialist is able to prepare it taking into account the peculiarities of the soil in the region, summarize all the wishes of the client and even offer several options for the initial sketches.

It is important to decide on the foundation or base of a wooden house:

1. In swampy areas, piles will be needed.

2. For a major two-story structure on ordinary soil, a shallow strip foundation is sufficient.

3. A columnar base is suitable for a light farm building.

Before starting the installation of a wooden house, the area is leveled, on which the foundation is marked. According to the dimensions corresponding to the project of the house, stakes are hammered in a rectangle - according to this markup:

  • dig a trench under the strip foundation;
  • clog their own;
  • equip a columnar base (one of the options).

Along the perimeter markings, they dig a trench up to 35-40 cm deep and about the same width, inside it is necessary to make a base for 2-3 piers - for greater strength.

When the trench is ready, it is leveled along the sides, and a sandy base up to 5 cm is poured onto the bottom, compacted with water. After 2-3 days, you can make the foundation, and at this time it is better to start preparing the laying elements for the formwork. Scraps of the boards from which the shields are made are suitable, and it is advisable to prepare the formwork for the weight of the foundation immediately. Pouring concrete mixture under the foundation must be done with reinforcement with metal rods.

After a few weeks, the foundation will harden, at which time round timber is being prepared for the log house. The formwork is removed from the finished foundation, and the resulting gap is covered with rubble and clay. Roofing material or bitumen must be laid on the foundation - for waterproofing.

Initial stage of work

Under a small blockhouse made of round timber, the deepening of the foundation will be minimal, but it is still better to slightly raise the house above the surface of the earth - in case of natural disasters, so that excess water does not soak the wood after shrinkage. The timber for laying the base and walls is slightly dried, that is, of natural moisture.

Installation of the walls is extremely simple: fitting and laying the beams by means of dowels on top of each other. Nagel is a wooden pin that allows you to assemble wooden houses without nails, ensuring the reliability of the structure and natural shrinkage. It is better to prepare these devices in advance - rounded pins with a cross section of up to 30mm from the most durable wood species in the area. A hole is drilled in the bars, into which the pins are driven. They are prepared a little deeper than the length of the dowel - during the shrinkage of the log house, the crowns should not move, forming cracks. The step between the pins is about 2 m.

Laying a log house from a round bar is important to dock correctly - an example in the video.

There are 3 ways to dock the timber:

1. Horizontal articulation method. Overlapping part of the timber on top of each other, the so-called "cold" joint, in which a small gap is obtained from the edge of the outer to the inner.

2. The vertical method - the imposition of the beams on top of each other, thus a "warm" joint is obtained, but it is more technologically complex.

3. Butt joint method, when the joint is made under a flat tenon on the inside, and it is also considered "warm".

Cold corners are additionally fastened with thorns, warm corners - with grooves.

Holes for pins are drilled between the logs, on which they are strung, forming a wall. The first pins are fixed near the corners, horse and doorways, at least 10 cm from the edge, and at a long interval after about 1.5-2 m. Roll insulation or natural material is placed between the round timber:

  • tow;
  • jute.

When the frame is formed, the openings for the windows and doors are finally formed. To avoid deformations, a bar is inserted in the center of the finished openings.

For laying the first crown of a log house, the strongest and even logs of the largest diameter are chosen that can withstand the total load of the structure. The lower base of the round timber must be cut off for stable laying on the foundation. In a round timber frame, an additional "bowl" fastening is formed. To do this, semicircular grooves are formed in the bars, fastening the corners, but the bowls must be neat and even.

When laying subsequent crowns, roll insulation must be laid in order to reduce the time spent on constant caulking of cracks. The excess can always be removed, and from the outside, the insulation between the crowns is practically invisible.

The length and thickness of the round timber is selected for each crown - the higher the wall, the thinner the timber, and the shorter logs will go to the gaps between the window and door openings. Assembling a log house takes about a week, but due to inexperience, most of the time is spent on fitting the round timber. The wood is treated with an antiseptic and is allowed to shrink at home for at least six months, then the interior finishing work is completed.

Mauerlat is the last crown of the wall, on which the roof rafters of the gable roof should rest. Better to do it with a steep slope - steep gable roofs do not trap snow. Ceiling beams are also mounted on the last crown.

Any future homeowner has to decide the question: what is safer and more profitable to build a house from? There may be many answers as construction opportunities continue to expand: now low-rise buildings are built from bricks, concrete, aerated concrete and other materials.

However, with all their diversity, the tree does not lose its position - this natural building material has been used for thousands of years, and even now it has not found an ideal replacement. A house cut from a round log will be highly appreciated in many countries, it is a traditional type of construction.

Why build a round log house

Wooden houses made of round logs are in demand everywhere: they have long been used in northern countries, since such buildings are able to effectively protect their inhabitants from the cold. Today they have spread throughout Russia and in many other countries. Wood is a unique material, and buildings made from it have several important characteristics:

  • Low thermal conductivity. Wood is able to effectively retain heat, so it will always be comfortable in such a house. In winter, it will warm up easily, and it will be very comfortable, in summer it will remain pleasantly cool. This is a special property of the tree, because of which it is highly valued.
  • Good soundproofing qualities. Houses made of round logs for a summer cottage are an ideal solution, since they will block extraneous sounds, and noisy neighbors will not interfere with you.
  • Low weight compared to brick and concrete. Because of this, a wooden house can be installed on a lightweight shallow foundation, which will cost less than other options.
  • Easy to install and easy to handle. Wood is a durable, but soft enough material, so it is very easy to work with it. Several types of locks can be used to connect a round log, they allow you to provide warm corners that will not be blown out in winter and autumn.
  • Flawless appearance. Log walls look very beautiful on their own and in combination with various finishes. The beauty of natural wood is one of its most important advantages.

These are just some of the advantages due to which many people choose exactly wooden log cabins for a country or capital house. One of the important features of the material is its air permeability: a log building is capable of providing normal natural air exchange, so it will not be stuffy inside such a house even with closed windows. There are other advantages of round log houses, thanks to which this type of construction continues to be actively used.

Cons of material

Like all building materials, wood is not without some drawbacks. The main one is natural shrinkage. As the wood dries, it loses moisture and decreases in size.

As a result, the house can sink by several tens of centimeters in the first few years, which will affect the decoration, doors and windows, and the rafter system. Future shrinkage is always taken into account when drawing up a project and during construction.

Another disadvantage is the formation of cracks in the ends of the logs during drying. When working with wood, you will need to cover the ends with special compounds that will protect the tree from premature drying and destruction.

One of the solutions may be to buy an already dried log: using chamber processing, excess moisture is removed from the wood, and it will be ready for use.

What can be a log house

A turnkey round log house is a very broad concept that can include a wide variety of options for planning and building design. The following types of round log houses have become popular in construction:
  1. Russian hut. This is a modern building stylized to resemble the features of ancient Slavic architecture. Such a "hut" will have many decorations made of carved wood: shutters, platbands, chiseled porch balusters, etc. The layout is usually very simple, a brick stove in tiles can become a decoration of the house.
  2. House-chalet. This is the name of a building built in the Swiss style: once this type of architecture served as the home of Alpine shepherds, today this type of houses is popular in many countries. It is characterized by a special shape of a pitched roof with large overhangs. The building usually has an attic or second floor. A chalet is, first of all, coziness and comfort for all residents.
  3. House in Finnish or Scandinavian style. Northern architecture is characterized by increased attention to the quality of construction, and the building itself should be spacious.

It is characterized by large windows on the sunny side, spacious rooms with a minimum of furniture, beautiful light decoration of the rooms. It is also a popular solution, the reliability of the design has been proven over centuries of use.

These are just some of the types of wooden buildings that can be ordered from Russian builders. The log allows you to build houses according to individual projects, and in this case, you can find the ideal individual solution together with the architect. A round log is a warm durable material that will allow you to get the most comfortable home in which more than one generation will live.

The EKO-TECH company conducts construction of houses from rounded logs, develops beautiful, comfortable, functional and high quality house projects from rounded logs taking into account the individual wishes of each client. The presence of our own production and many years of experience in the construction market allow us to optimize costs and strictly follow the technology of building houses from rounded logs.

Construction stages:

  1. The first stage is the arrangement of the foundation, which is most often the most expensive item in the construction budget. The use of rounded logs allows you to reduce the load on the base of the house and use simpler and cheaper types of foundation. Widespread options are screw-pile foundations and shallow strip foundations.
  2. The next stage is the construction of a log house. Making a complete set of a house in our own production workshops in parallel with the construction of the foundation makes it possible to significantly reduce the construction time.
  3. Installation of a roof when building a house from a rounded log is one of the most difficult stages that should be performed only by experienced specialists. The structure of the roof in a wooden house differs significantly from brick or reinforced concrete counterparts, and mistakes in the independent construction of the rafter system will result in significant costs.
  4. After the construction of the power part of the house, it should stand from six months to twelve months for natural shrinkage and ensuring optimal moisture content of the wood.
  5. The final stage of construction is finishing, which includes finishing of inter-crown joints, grinding and painting of logs, installation of ceilings, floors, installation of doors and windows.

For many millennia, wooden houses have been used by people, and their popularity in the 21st century is completely reaching a new level. Before folding a round log house, you need to know a lot of things. There are many advantages to this kind of houses: environmental friendliness, design, it warms up easily and retains heat for a long time, breathes, thanks to which there is always fresh air inside.

Preparatory work

Tools and materials:

  • roulette;
  • shovel;
  • sand;
  • water;
  • edged board;
  • reinforcing rod;
  • Bulgarian;
  • welding machine;
  • hammer with nails;
  • gas-burner;
  • roofing material.

At the very beginning, a foundation is made under the log house, and its depth may be minimal, but it will have to be raised high enough above the ground so that seasonal moisture does not destroy the wood. A shallow strip foundation is optimal, which does not require much effort and time.

To begin with, a trench is dug around the perimeter 35 cm deep and 40 cm wide, and at least 2 walls are formed inside to increase strength. After the required trench has been dug, it is necessary to align its walls and the bottom part, due to which the poured solution will be highly reliable.

A 5 cm sand cushion is poured onto the bottom and poured with water. In the meantime, the water dries (2-3 days), you need to prepare the remaining elements.

Now the formwork should be made. For it, an edged board of 25x150 mm is required, and the height of the boards will be 0.7 m. It is advisable to make the formwork for the entire building at once, so that later you do not have to fill in parts. All fastenings of the boards are carried out on nails, since with screws you will have to spend 2-3 times more time so as not to split the boards.

A 10 mm ribbed rod goes to the reinforcing frame. In this case, the process looks standard:

Figure 1. Scheme of marking a log when cutting into a paw.

  1. 5 long parallel rods are laid out with a step of 10 cm.
  2. Rods of 60 cm are laid perpendicularly with a step of 30 cm.
  3. Each joint is fixed with electric arc welding.
  4. An identical grille is produced.
  5. With the help of rods of 25 cm, all parallel joints are combined into one system. It is advisable to carry out this step directly at the installation site, because the finished structure is far from always able to lift even 2 people, and not everyone can use the truck crane.

During manufacturing, you need to be careful so that the metal does not touch the formwork and sand. In order to raise the reinforcement above the sand, you need to use broken brick or special plastic stars. From above, you need to weld on rods with a step of 1 m in order to ensure a high-quality joint between round timber and concrete.

Now you can pour the concrete solution M300-350, then safely leave it to dry for 28 days. After this time, the formwork is dismantled, and all open areas of concrete are laid with roofing felt and burned with a gas burner. Steel rods also need to be waterproofed.

Primary activity

Tools and materials:

  • axe;
  • round timber;
  • roulette;
  • tow.

Figure 2. Scheme of connection in a paw with a thorn.

Now you can make a log house from round timber. There are only 2 cutting options that are especially popular: Russian and Canadian. Outwardly, the result is identical, but in practice the Canadian bowl (Fig. 1) is universal, since allows you to harvest wood in any season, and after shrinkage (up to 10 cm), no cracks appear. There are 2 ways of cutting - into a bowl and into a paw (Fig. 2), but because of its reliability, it is the bowl that is especially popular.

There is a small nuance, which not everyone adheres to, which is why the tree is sometimes judged negatively: you need to form all the elements with an ax, because in these places, the likelihood of rotting decreases many times. In no case should you use the rounded versions, because during industrial processing, the protective layer is removed from the wood. The only plus of the rounded version is its thermal insulation, which is better than all analogues.

Glued laminated timber is an intermediate link, i.e. possesses intermediate strength characteristics, and at the same time average thermal insulation and weight. It differs in the way of joint - vertical. This method does not require cutting grooves along the edges, because it has a continuous groove along its entire length, into which the next similar specimen can be installed.

After the whole frame is done, you can start cutting down the doors and windows. Such a step is very unusual in modern realities, but it is he who will ensure the ideal quality. For strength, you need to lay one log in the center.

The house is ready, the windows and doors are installed, the roof is covered, but it is necessary to finally distinguish between internal and external space. To do this, all the cracks with tow will be caulked in the log house. This process is carried out using an ordinary knife. Any finish is fixed on top, but in the first 3 years it is better to use something simple, because you need to watch the seams.

Additional aspects

Expanded clay serves as insulation for the floor, but you can use any other insulation if you wish. For expanded clay, waterproofing is initially laid on the ground, which will go to the walls, then there is a layer of insulation, and then waterproofing again, but with a downward bend. A screed is formed on top.

The stove inside the room is placed at a distance of at least 15 cm from the walls, but it is better in the old traditions in the center of the room. This precaution will allow you not to think about possible fires.

Before folding a log house, you need to know not only the quality of the wood, but also the cutting time.

To be sure of quality, it is better to take the simplest round logs of clumsy felling, which does not undergo special processing with a tool.

It is he who will last for several centuries, if done correctly.
