Detailed instructions for cutting blanks and assembling a serving table

  1. We mark on the blockboard the details of the table top and the bottom shelf, which have one rounding radius (about 225 mm). We cut out using a jigsaw or a milling cutter with a compass.

  2. When deciding how to make a serving table according to all the rules, we mill the workpieces along a radius in several passes, each time deepening by about 5 mm. Having cut out both elements, we round their edges with a cutter (radius 9.5 mm).
  3. We choose a round hole for the handle according to the template in the tabletop by installing a groove cutter and a copying sleeve on the milling machine.

  4. We take a blank for the side wall. We cut out a rotary stop from it, which will hold the hinged cover element. For work, we use a jigsaw with a fine-toothed file. We cut at high speeds, then the cut will be smooth.
  5. We drill holes for dowels at the ends of the side walls and in the table top. To create an ideal pairing, we use markers in our work (for marking mating sockets) and a jig-stencil (for precise drilling). Trying to make the serving table beautiful, we carefully grind the details before assembling. Round off the open edges with a cutter with a radius of 6.35 mm.
    We connect the countertop with the lower shelf with the side walls, glueing the dowels and the walls of the nests with glue. First, we fasten the sidewall with a cutout to the shelf, then install the second side wall.

  6. Before gluing the tabletop and side walls on the dowels, insert the rotary stop with a radius of 120 mm in place. We do not use glue here. A washer must be put on the lower dowel with a diameter of 6 mm.
  7. Drawers are assembled on dowels or we connect them using the “dovetail” method. In the sidewalls of the boxes, we cut out the grooves for the bottoms with a cutter. We glue plywood parts into them. We attach telescopic guides to the outer side of the sidewalls.

  8. We cut out homemade rollers with a diameter of 140 mm. Cut a 12 mm wide groove on the end side of the roller. In it we will glue an O-ring that will act like a tire on a wheel. The axles of the wheels are dowels ∅ 15 mm, recessed (also with glue) in the lower shelf by 40 mm.
  9. We attach the guides to the inner sides of the side walls. After that, in the front panels of the drawers, we drill holes-handles ∅ 25 mm. We put the boxes in place.

  10. To hide the piano hinge for folding the table top, select 1.5 mm deep folds on the edges of the lid and the flap.
  11. Prepare a 4 mm thick template for bending the duralumin tube. The tube bent along a radius of 200 mm is adjusted according to the planned length of the fence.

  12. We put on the duralumin arch of the rack. Insert the ends of the tube into the 8mm slots drilled into the inner side of the table. At the same time, we install the racks in the pre-drilled holes.

I made my first serving table a few years ago for my wife's birthday. After searching the network for pictures, I found the one that I liked more. I drew a rough sketch from the photograph and did everything from it. The table fits into our everyday life so well that I did not expect it. It is used as a magazine, and as a serving, and as a snack bar computer. And recently I started using it near the barbecue as an auxiliary. The presence of wheels allows him to quickly move him around the veranda, bring up meat, put spices and other attributes nearby. The only drawback was that you had to carry the table from home to the veranda and back. Therefore, it was decided to make another such table.

This time, I decided to make the preparatory process more thorough. Dimensions were taken from the existing table and drawings of all parts were made. The technology and the sequence of operations have been thought out. And now I invite you to make such a table with me.

For the top and bottom countertops, we need a furniture board. You can make it yourself, or you can buy it ready-made in a hardware store. In the drawing, I deliberately did not indicate the width of the countertops, since it will depend on the width of the purchased shield. The size should be about 420mm. But a few centimeters in one direction or another will not play a big role. The main thing is that the width of the lower and upper countertops coincide. All other dimensions will remain unchanged, except for the length of the handle, but I will talk about that later. I came across a shield with a width of 410mm and a length of 2000mm and a thickness of 20mm. This should be enough for basic details.

The entire process of marking and manufacturing is described in the videos. You can see drawings and dimensions on this page.

A folding table is a very convenient and useful item in everyday life. Many owners complain about the small area of \u200b\u200btheir apartments, therefore, they do not have the opportunity to put a large table in the kitchen. This problem is effectively solved by purchasing folding models. It is worth noting that they are ideal for trips and picnics in nature.

The folding table is lightweight and compact, which allows it to be easily folded into the trunk of a car.

Varieties

This furniture comes in various shapes and sizes. They differ in the shape of the table top (round, square, oval, rectangular), material (wood, metal and their combination), as well as the way they are folded.

The most popular type of folding tables is wooden. If you want to make it as light and easy to transport as possible, then install an inexpensive chipboard tabletop.

The easiest way to fold at tables with a cruciform foot. When folded, the dimensions of the structure change, but it itself cannot be disassembled. In addition, there are completely collapsible products. To create them, threaded fasteners are used.

If you want to make a round table with your own hands, then you need to shape the tabletop before fastening. This will greatly simplify the assembly process.

Preparatory work

If you decide to figure out how to make a folding table with your own hands, then first assess your capabilities. Craftsmen who do not have impressive experience should give preference to the simplest models with cruciform legs.

Table sizes are selected depending on your own needs. It is important to consider the maximum possible load and operating conditions.

At home, it is easier to create a table made of wood. For the countertop, chipboard will be the best option. You will also need tools for work:

  • Electric jigsaw;
  • Level;
  • Paint brushes;
  • Ruler / tape measure;
  • Hammer, screwdriver;
  • Grinder (sandpaper).

The latter is recommended for use only by experienced craftsmen. Everyone else should give preference to regular sandpaper. Of course, using it will slow down the process of creating a table a little. But the product will turn out to be of high quality and beautiful.

For work, you need wooden blocks measuring 2 x 4.5 centimeters. If you plan to make a large table, you can order 3 x 5 centimeters parts. As for the length, it ranges from one to five meters.

The material is cut into pieces of the desired size in accordance with the drawings of the folding table. It is advisable to use boards for countertops that are thick (at least 4 centimeters) and durable.

Assembly

To connect the bars, you need bolts and screws. Their length is selected in accordance with the thickness of the selected materials. Bolts are used to unite the legs, self-tapping screws are used to secure the footrests.

Initially, you need to cut out the required number of bars. It is advisable to make them slightly larger in size than originally planned. The hole must also be larger than the fastener. For example, for M4 bolts, the hole diameter must be at least five millimeters.

After cutting, each part must be processed with a grinder or sandpaper. To extend the period of operation, they are covered with a protective compound (paint or varnish).

It is important to securely fasten the foot supports (four pieces). They are at an angle of 90 degrees in relation to the "goats" (folding legs with crossbars at the bottom). For this, ordinary screws are used.

Three pieces are required for each support. The distance between them should correspond to the dimensions of the bar from which the "goats" are made.

To understand what the finished structure looks like, find a photo of a folding table on the Internet with your own hands. So you will understand what result you should get in the end.

All parts are connected with bolts. They are placed in the through central holes of the bars. It is not recommended to overtighten them. Let the axle rotate freely. "Goats" are fixed to the table top by means of bolted connections. Foot supports must be attached to them in advance.

If you are worried that the axle mount will loosen over time and fail due to constant folding / unfolding, then use locknuts.

If you want to make a compact table, then remove the bolts that connect the "trestle" and the footrests. It is allowed to pick up one or two bolts. Practice shows that it is not worth tightening the fasteners in these areas too much.

Reliable fastening and tightening of the bolts requires only the foot supports. This is due to the fact that it is they who guarantee the normal installation of the legs.

Most serving tables are very compact, so they are suitable even for small apartments. In addition, in conditions of limited living space, it is always better to give preference to mobile and transformable pieces of furniture than stationary ones. For example, you should think about the fact that a table on wheels will be more convenient than an ordinary stationary tea table, because it is much easier to move it to a corner if it gets in the way, or to move it to a room that currently lacks horizontal planes.
