Transportation of indoor flowers. How to transport plants over a long distance

Moving an apartment is an event that requires responsible care for your relatives, pets, personal property. And, of course, indoor plants and flowers that decorate your home deserve attention too. For them, moving is stressful. If you want them to continue to please you, you need to carefully transport them to a new place of residence. In this article, we will tell you what you need to do to do this.

How to prepare indoor flowers for the move?

Two days before the move, it is better to stop watering and spraying the plants, as the potted soil must be dry so as not to damage root system during transportation. Can be cut out of cardboard or thick paper circles according to the size of the diameters of the pots and cover the soil with them so that it does not spill out when transporting indoor plants and flowers.

How to pack indoor plants and flowers during transportation, moving?

Arrange small plants in boxes, placing cardboard partitions between the pots. Alternatively, seal the free space with newspaper so that the pots are fixed and do not touch each other.

Tie the stems of medium-sized flowers to pegs stuck in the center of the pot. Wrap houseplants in paper and tie at the top. For branched plants, it is necessary to fix several pegs along the edges of the pot, tie them at the top. Wrap the entire structure with paper and tie at the crown.

For tall indoor flowers, pick up a bag of linen or oilcloth, a little wider and longer than the plant itself. The pot is placed at the bottom of the bag, which is tied on top with tape or rope. Outside, the bag is carefully wrapped with twine so as not to damage the crown. In case of cold weather, the flower can be insulated with an additional layer of film.

To protect your prickly houseplant from breakage of the spikes during transportation, and you from scratches, pin pieces of Styrofoam on the spikes and secure them with tape. Handle them especially carefully, as the needles are usually quite fragile and brittle.

How to transport indoor plants and flowers during cold weather and protect them from freezing in winter when moving?

If home flowers are transported during the cold season, place in a box with plants plastic bottles from hot water, fill the remaining space with crumpled paper. Close the lid with tape. Such packaging will save your favorite plants from freezing. When transporting large indoor plants, the branches are carefully twisted, fixed to pegs and wrapped with several layers of felt or other insulating material.

How to arrange indoor flowers in the car when loading during a move?

Houseplants loaded onto a truck at the very end. First, large specimens are arranged, then boxes with small indoor flowers, and last of all, “problematic” ones that require special handling. They should be fixed in the car to ensure they are immobile during.

Upon arrival at a new place, the flowers need to be unpacked and the wrapper removed. Inspect each plant, remove damaged leaves and branches. Water immediately warm water. This will equalize the temperature of the soil with the ambient temperature and houseplants will recover faster after transportation. Until new shoots appear, do not apply fertilizer to the ground. Now you can arrange flowers in the apartment: light-loving ones closer to the windows, shade-loving ones away from the sun.

If you followed all the above tips, then your houseplants will easily transfer the move to new apartment or house. And again they will delight you, create comfort and good mood!

Many tourists have such a hobby - to bring from different countries plants that can be grown in the country or at home on the windowsill. These are cyclamens, and crocuses, and fuchsias, and spindle trees, and a variety of ivy, and hibiscus and many other plants.

Plants need take from the place of collection to the house, and this is usually not one day. It is better to dig up or cut only those plants about which it is known for sure that they are not rare and endangered, and which have a chance to take root far from their homeland.

Moreover, it must be borne in mind that it is impossible to transport plants across the border, and even more so with land - a violation of quarantine instructions (see rules below). So there is some risk.

One wanderer the botanist told how he was carrying some kind of gentian from Nepal, packed it in tin can with the earth, put it in a backpack. At Sheremetyevo, the customs officers examined him and had to explain to them for a long time that these were not hemp seedlings at all.

Cuttings desirable cut with nail scissors or tweezers, it's faster and safer. It is better to take cuttings with at least five leaves. The time of year does not play a role, both April and October cuttings successfully take root.

If it took root more than half of the cuttings, then this is already a very good result. How to cut a cutting without attracting special attention? You can, for example, ask your companion to study a map of the city, it will perfectly cover a botanist tourist, who at that time will cut off a small stalk. Or pretend to photograph plants...

And, of course, the chief principle - do no harm. After all, no one will be pleased if in the morning he does not find his favorite bell in the garden.

IN field conditions you also need to be careful - in some countries it is forbidden to pluck, cut any plants. For example, in Finland, moss and lichens, as well as some types of rare plants, cannot be picked.

Five ways to pack plants for long haul

Method 1. Food film.
You can use cling film, especially if the plants are large enough. You start wrapping it from the root and go up, thereby gently pressing the branches.
For small things, you can use containers, but it is better to place plants wrapped in foil in them too.

Method 2. Sphagnum.
It's good to have sphagnum with you. If possible, shake off the roots of plants from the soil, wrap them with sphagnum, moisten and wrap tightly in plastic bags with tape. Make slots for air inflow only in bags covering above-ground part plants. Various wrapped small things can be put in plastic food containers. The method is simple and very reliable. Plants take up little space and are perfectly preserved.

Method 3. Plastic bags.
Take with you rolls of plastic bags of 2-3 formats, starting with the minimum (under the Alpine trifle). Wrap an earthen clod in a bag, the green part remains open. Put the swaddled plants in a plastic container. If the grass is delicate and it’s a pity to crush it, then vertically - clod to whom, green upwards.

If these are hard saxifrag pillows, then you can use a jack, as it is more convenient. Then two or three containers can be placed on the bottom of a strong plastic bag or travel bag, not too big size so that there is no problem to carry it on the plane as hand luggage. On top, for masking, you can put something that will not suppress the plants, but hide them well, such as a windbreaker jacket. You can also put in the Duty free package of the place where you are departing from, then, as travelers say, upon arrival, customs officers are not interested in this package at all.

Method 4. A glass of water.
On the bus, the cuttings travel perfectly in a glass of water and a napkin torn into small pieces, which stands or hangs in a bag. During the day, the bag opens to let in the light, and is insulated at night, especially in May and September. Once every three days they can be taken to the hotel room to wash and change the water.

Before the border, it is better to disguise them. Some plants can withstand such a nomadic lifestyle for two whole weeks ... And fuchsia and honeysuckle Honeysuckle even bloomed with fright.

Method 5. Plastic bottle.
The method is suitable for those who did not take any film or containers with them. You can buy in the store mineral water in the right size bottle. Cut an empty bottle in half. IN lower part put the cuttings, pre-wrapped with wet toilet paper. Cover with the top of the bottle and put in a bag. Many cuttings will endure the road at 12-14 o'clock.

For some reason, in late autumn and winter, there is a particularly acute desire to buy some new plant. This often happens when dreary long evenings come. Probably due to the lack bright colors on the street, and the soul asks for a holiday and delight for the eyes. And then the legs themselves carry to the flower shop.
And it happens that you just need a gift for someone, but you can’t cancel the frost on the street.
How to bring home the desired purchase without negative consequences?

When buying indoor plants during the cold season, you need to consider that they have already experienced a lot of stress during the long journey from greenhouses to store shelves. And you need to carefully plan their transportation from the store to your home so that they are not yet.

Happy shopping and happy travels!

It is known that even movements within the apartment can bring plants out of balance. It’s a paradox, but a long-distance move often benefits them, but you need to be well prepared.

Houseplants are the most comfortable of all pets. They do not need to be fed several times a day, taken out for a walk, they will not tear their favorite slippers, feeling sad alone. You can even leave them alone for a couple of days. But if you are leaving for a long time, the problem will require a solution. can design various fixtures that maintain humidity, even connect smart automation, but the risk of losing green friends will still remain. Plants feel good only with constant human care.

Perhaps you will give your flowers to friends for the holidays, okay knowing plants and able to deal with them. Or take them with you to the country. Then, having taken up packing, you will think more than once that it is much easier to transport a cat and a dog than sensitive houseplants.

We collect, pack and go

In herbaceous plants, all the leaves are carefully lifted up and tied, but not tightly, so as not to damage. Shrubs, trees are tied with a rope very carefully so as not to break the branches. Put the connected plants in a high box. Fill the space between the plants with crumpled paper and rags to keep them from swaying. Close the lid and tie up the box. If the plants are tall, lift up all four sides of the lid, fix them in an upright position with tape. When tying the box with a rope, do not tighten the top so as not to break the plants. For tall plants hard to find the right box. Take a sheet of craft paper or cardboard. Lay the plant pot on its side on the paper and carefully roll it into a cylinder. Secure with paper clips or tape. In summer, the machine gets very hot. Do not put plants in the trunk or on the back shelf, against the glass. Place the box in the back seat or on the floor between the front and rear seats. If there is no space in the cabin, you will have to carry the plants in the trunk. In this case, cover the bottom of the trunk with old magazines, especially where the exhaust pipe runs. This will keep the pots from heating up from below. Put a damp rag on top of the box so that the plants are less heated from the trunk lid, which is hot in the sun.

We go with flowers to the country

Most indoor plants are not just desirable, but vital to stay in the summer on fresh air. IN room conditions it is practically impossible to create the conditions so necessary for the full growth, development and flowering of plants - differences in day and night temperatures, natural, and not sunlight refracted through glass.

Coleus, begonias, balsams will gain such a leafy mass and brightness of color over the summer that you will never get in the house. After summer holidays, strelitzia and cannes will bloom in winter. Phalaenopsis and dendrobium buds will pick up. The conifers that have suffered in the rooms will come to life and freshen up. For them, staying at the dacha is not just relaxation, but a ticket to life.

ATTENTION! You can transport plants to the country when the threat of the last frost has passed. In the central zone of Russia, frosts are possible until June 6.

When you get to the place, first of all, take the box of plants out of the car and put it in the shade. Freed from unloading, take care of the placement of plants. Choose a place on the site that is illuminated by the sun in the morning, before 10-11 o'clock, or in the evening, after 6 o'clock, so as not to expose the plants to midday baking. The pots are dug into the groove, on the bottom of which a layer of rubble is placed so that when watering, the water does not stagnate in the pots. A layer of ash is poured over the rubble, which does not allow earthworms to enter the pot through the drainage hole.

Plants can be left outside overnight if nighttime temperatures do not fall below 12-14 0C. Long rains are harmful to indoor plants. You will have to bring plants into the house or build an inclined canopy so that water does not flood the flower pots.

We transport flowers from an apartment to an apartment

Preparing to move is a responsible job. There is so much to do that there is not enough time. When almost all things are collected, indoor plants are also prepared for moving. It is not worth keeping the flowers wrapped for too long. Film is especially dangerous. Plants under it are steamed, rotting quickly begins. If the plants are transported in the summer, it is imperative to make several holes in the film packaging.

The plants arrived safely at their new location, but there is no need to rush to unpack them in winter. Let the plants warm up for an hour and a half and only then remove the packaging.

In the new house, try to place the plants in the same light and temperature conditions as in the old place. Enter plants in new interior you can later, but for now you are unlikely to have enough time for additional chores with the likely vagaries of plants.

The new apartment will differ from the old one in terms of temperature, humidity, and light. Indoor plants will feel the changes much earlier than you. Carefully monitor their condition in order to notice the problems that have arisen in time. Adaptation to new conditions will take no more than a few weeks, if you give the plants timely needed help. Patient pets will live without top dressing and "bath" days while you are busy with moving chores, but they will not be able to come to terms with a gross violation of the main life support parameters - temperature, humidity level and amount of light.

Note to the florist

Plants must not be transported on a roof rack.

It is almost impossible to securely fix the plants without damaging them. During such transportation, the earth spills out of the pot. No matter how carefully the plant is packed, wind, road dust and shaking will cause significant damage to it. The packaged plant will receive a serious heat stroke.

Transportation of indoor flowers in winter

Never take unpacked plants out of the house. Even packed plants should not be taken out of the house at temperatures below -10 ° C for more than 1-2 minutes. At low temperatures, plants are loaded only into a preheated car interior. In winter, plants are packed in several layers of paper and films so that there are at least four layers of packaging around the plant. The plant must be packed together with the pot.

Flowers require a very careful attitude to themselves, so certain difficulties may arise during their transportation. Experienced flower growers they have several secrets that help them successfully transport flowers and keep them fresh and healthy.

Prepare ahead of time. Do not water the plants for several days before moving. The ground must be dry and firm. Thus, she will not get enough sleep during the trip and the roots will not suffer. For additional protection cut out a circle from cardboard paper and cover the ground with it. For long stems, purchase wooden sticks. Stick them into the ground and tie long petals to them. If the whole plant is made up of long petals, you will need a few sticks to tie them on. Also take care of the tops. Wrap them carefully in linen bags or use oilcloth bags.

cook carton boxes, make cardboard partitions and put containers with vegetation there. If you are going to be transporting pets in cold weather, put two or three plastic bottles of hot water in the crate. Fill the remaining gaps with paper. If the plants fit completely in the box and do not look out, close it and wrap it with tape. Pre-cut small holes there so that the flowers can breathe.

If you can't transport all the plants in the containers, loosen the roots and cover them with wet moss. Put each copy in a bag. Then put them in a big box. If the move takes place in cold weather, put standard building insulation in the box first. Experts recommend transplanting plants a week before traveling to plastic containers. In this way, the risk of breaking the pots and damaging the flowers is minimized.

Pack large flowers separately. Load them into transport as a last resort. Make sure that there are no heavy objects nearby that could fall and damage the plants. Be sure to secure them so they don't fall off on the road. If you have the opportunity, order a transport with windows and big amount fixing straps. During the trip, choose the smoothest roads. If you have a long way to go, make stops and take the plants out into the air. Try to stay in the shade.

When the shipment comes to an end, unpack the flowers first. If you notice damage, remove it and give your pets warm water to drink to help them recover from stress. But in cold weather, don't unpack the boxes right away. Bring the packed flowers to a new room and leave there for several hours. When they are at room temperature, unpack them.

Plants are very convenient to transport on an airplane. There is a special insulated compartment with a set temperature. Each copy is packed in polyethylene so that the plant continues to breathe. If you have the opportunity to transport flowers by plane, choose this option. But if you follow all the above rules, you can also successfully transport them in a car.

If you prepare in advance for transportation and take care of the plants during the trip, they will not lose their charm and will continue to delight you with their flowering.
