Port of kantaoui tunisia. Port el kantaoui

City Beach

It is the picturesque harbor and wide sandy beaches with fine white sand stretching on both sides of it that are the heart of Port El Kantaoui with a developed tourist infrastructure, which is often called a "reserve for tourists". Guests of this original and comfortable corner of the Mediterranean coast of Africa can get here an unforgettable experience of a vacation in Tunisia, without leaving Port El Kantaoui and not even suspecting that the everyday life of a big country is running very close by. The layout of Port El Kantaoui is simple and convenient, it is impossible to get lost here: along the coastal line, to the south and north of the port, a street stretches for several kilometers. On one side, facing the sea, there are hotels, and opposite - restaurants, cafes, shops, excursion bureaus, amusement parks.

The local subtropical climate, reminiscent of southern Spain, allows tourists to enjoy their holidays in Port El Kantaoui from mid-April to mid-November. The April sun during the day warms the air up to +20 ° С, and the sea - up to +18 ° С, with the same temperature indicators the last month of autumn ends the beach season. The hottest time here is July-August, when during the day the air temperature reaches +30 ... + 32 ° С, and the sea warms up to +26 ... + 28 ° С.

History of Port El Kantaoui

In 1979, the first president of Tunisia, Habib Bourguiba, initiated the creation of the Society for Research and Development of the Sousse-North Region. This organization started planning a resort with a man-made harbor-marina, which they decided to call "Kantaoui" (in the Russian spelling there is also "Kantawi"), which in translation from the Tunisian dialect of Arabic means "let everything go well."

Olivier Clement Kakub, the most eminent modern Tunisian architect, protégé of Habib Bourguiba, was appointed the chief architect. He decided to repeat the successful experience of the French, who built an artificial harbor on the Cote d'Azur, around which the charming town of Port Grimaud, popular among tourists and yachtsmen, has grown over time. The style of Port El Kantaoui was borrowed from the famous Tunisian city of Sidi Bou Said, known as the "White and Blue City", whose houses built in the Andalusian and classical Arab style in blue, white and blue colors look very colorful and beautiful ...

As conceived by the architects, at the entrance to the port, it was decided to install a small fragment of the wall imitating the traditional medina (the center of an Arab city, surrounded by a wall). The arches and narrow, stone-paved streets of Port El Kantaoui, decorated with greenery, flowers, date palms, are another touch that emphasizes the national appearance of the resort, making its guests feel that they are in Tunisia of the 18th-19th centuries.

Already at the beginning of the 80s, an artificial harbor and a yacht port, several hotels and the first golf course were built in Port El Kantaoui. In the future, the tourist infrastructure continued to develop around these sea gates. Initially, the port could receive 300 yachts and boats. Later, with the growing popularity of the resort, its capabilities expanded, and today the marina can accommodate more than 350 ships. The port is not intended for large ships, as it is too shallow for them.

Today, comfortable hotels of various categories, amusement parks, nightclubs, discos, stylish restaurants and cafes form the image of Port El Kantaoui, and the respectability of the resort is emphasized by the well-known golf club, the best in Tunisia. One of its courses, with an area of 150 hectares, hosts prestigious national and international golf competitions, including the PGA series.

Spa life

Clean, wide and uncrowded beaches of Port El Kantaoui are incomparably better than the neighboring beaches of the large resort of Sousse. The most beautiful and comfortable of them stretch north of the port, towards the end of the resort area. The sea here is quite calm, transparent, algae are almost never found. On the beaches belonging to hotels, tourists can get everything they need for a beach holiday: umbrellas, sun loungers, air mattresses, towels (in some places they can ask for a deposit).

Local residents are not allowed to enter most of the beaches of Port El Kantaoui, so the proximity to a large Tunisian family is practically impossible. Also, the ubiquitous souvenir merchants will not bother here.

On the beaches, all entertainment related to the rest on the seaside is available: water skiing, paragliding, boat rental, water bicycles. From the harbor, several times a day, three-hour boat trips are organized on a pirate-style ship. You can go to sea on small catamarans with a transparent bottom. For 20 dinars per hour, you can hire a yacht with a captain on your own and go with a small company on a sea voyage along the coast. Prices fluctuate depending on the season. Feel free to bargain with the boat owner.

It is nice to walk around the city, but if you are a lover of romance, hire a horse-drawn carriage. A taxi ride from the most distant hotel to the harbor and port area, where the main entertainment centers are concentrated, will cost 5 dinars. You can also pay in dollars and euros.

Port El Kantaoui has one of the best water parks in the country "Aqua Palace". Here tourists are offered several original slides, including children's slides, a swimming pool with artificial waves, the "Lazy River" attraction - an artificial reservoir where tourists swim on an inflatable ring and relax. Diving, according to the rules, is prohibited, but it is difficult to control it. The park is open from May 31 to October 31, opening hours: 9: 30-17: 30. Tourists prefer to entertain themselves here on weekdays, as on weekends the Aqua Palace is flooded with locals, which makes the rest too noisy and hectic. There is a cafe on the territory of the park, where prices are quite high. Please note that you are not allowed to bring your own food and drink. Tickets for adults cost 30 dinars, for teenagers whose height is less than 1 m 40 cm - 25 dinars, kids can have fun here for free.

Not far from Port El Kantaoui, there is another amusement park with a dozen attractions - "Hannibal Park". The entrance here will cost you from 2 to 10 dinars. If you are on vacation with children, check out the nearby small zoo and the Ice Cream House.

In the area of the embankment, in a miniature park, there are “singing and dancing” fountains, and in the evenings you can enjoy a light and music show. The park is surrounded by small restaurants and cafes, where it is very pleasant to spend time waiting for the performance.

In Port El-Kantaoui, tourists will have the opportunity to join such a respectable sport as golf. The resort's golf club has two excellent courses, each with 18 holes. They are located on a vast territory, surrounded by palm trees, pomegranate and olive groves, planted here several centuries ago. There is a nice bar, restaurant, shop, and a field where newbies are taught. An individual lesson will cost approximately 25 euros and a lesson lasts about an hour. A subscription for three days costs about 150 euros.

Mabrouka Ranch is a quarter-hour drive from Port El Kantaoui, where you can go horse riding.

In the evenings, luxury yachts come to Port El Kantaoui, whose passengers are looking for entertainment, because the resort is also known among lovers of nightlife. Theatrical performances are often held in large hotels; there are several respectable nightclubs and discos. Among the most popular is Discoteque Platinium, a stylish nightclub with good music.

A five-minute drive from the resort is a casino where gamblers will find not only gaming tables and machines, but also restaurants with venues for entertainment shows. Check the opening hours of the casino: the casino is not open every day.

Excursions

Without leaving the limits of Port El Kantaoui, it is difficult to find out what the country is and get to know the life of Tunisians. If this really interests you, you can easily go to neighboring Sousse, where you will discover the true Tunisia. A trip to this ancient city, located about 10 km from Port El Kantaoui, will cost approximately 8 dinars. You can also go to Sousse in the original car train, paying from 2.5 dinars.

In Sousse, be sure to explore the two magnificent fortresses. One of them, Rabat, was built in the 8th century. The architecture of this building is very strict, even austere. Above all its buildings there is a watchtower - nador, at each corner of the building there are smaller towers, there is also a prayer hall. Nador offers a beautiful view of the city.

The second fortress, the Kasbah, is located in the southwestern part of the medina. It is the legacy of various peoples that replaced each other here in the 9th-11th centuries. The main attraction of the fortress is the 30-meter tower of Khalef el-Fataoi, built in 859, towering over the city.

Of interest are also the majestic strict mosques erected in Sousse in the 9th century - the Great Mosque, the Bu Ftata Mosque, and the Rabat Mosque.

Tourists go to Sousse not only on an educational journey, but also for souvenirs, since they are quite expensive in Port El Kantaoui. The city is also convenient for everyday shopping.

From Port El Kantaoui, you can go on a long journey to visit the city of Tunisia, the ruins of Carthage, Sidi Bou Said. There is an opportunity to see the whole country during a two-day trip to the Sahara.

Hotels

There are hotels of all categories in Port El Kantaoui. There are not many three-star hotels here, and when choosing them, be guided by the time of construction of the hotel and the prices of accommodation in it. If the room rate fluctuates between US $ 45-60 per night, be prepared that the service will not please you too much. More expensive three-star hotels, on the other hand, are quite comfortable and get good reviews from tourists. But most of the resort's guests prefer to stay in four- and five-star hotels, each of which, as a rule, has its own thalassotherapy centers.

Among the four-star hotels in Port El Kantaoui, the most popular are Hasdrubal Thalassa & Spa, Abou Sofiane, Bellevue Park, Green Park (the cost of living is from $ 70 to $ 150 per night per room), among the five-star hotels are Diar Andalous, Hannibal Palace, Imperial Marhaba (from $ 100 to $ 240). The four-star and five-star hotels of the El-Mouradi group have proven themselves well; this brand also owns one very comfortable three-star hotel.

Keep in mind that hotels in Port El Kantaoui do not have a vast territory, as this is an elite area of Tunisia, and land is worth its weight in gold. Local hotels usually only have one pool. No one here is surprised by the lack of a separate pool for children, tennis courts and playgrounds.

Restaurants and cafes

It is worth noting right away that for the pleasure of having a tasteful meal in a restaurant or cafe in Port El Kantaoui, you will have to pay 30-50% more than in other resorts in Tunisia. The entire main resort highway is dotted with restaurants and cafes, but there are especially many of them in the marina area, where the air is saturated with the enchanting aromas of cooking seafood.

The most prestigious and expensive restaurant is Le Mediterranee. This establishment offers a magnificent view of the harbor and serves Mediterranean and French cuisine, many of which are signature dishes. A portion of trivial pasta will cost you 18 dinars, and for a hearty lunch or dinner, which includes dishes from the most delicate fish, mussels, squid, shrimp, octopus, you will have to pay at least 100 dinars. If you choose to accompany them with wine or beer, the price will increase significantly.

Another pleasant restaurant is La Neptune, located directly at the port, in a space styled like a ship. You can recognize him by the pirate figurine located at the entrance, which is crowded with tourists who want to be photographed in his company.

Popular is La Daurade Les Emirs, which serves excellent Italian dishes and seafood. Prices are lower here than at Le Mediterranee.

On the waterfront of Port El Kantaoui, there are several Arab cafes where you can smoke shisha with a good selection of aromatic tobaccos.

On the advertising stand of one of the cafes in the port, you can read: “Welcome home. Alcohol is only here! ”, But this statement is deceptive, in fact, there are several such“ exclusive ”cafes. Here you will have to pay 3-4 dinars for a bottle of beer (0.3 l). If you are an avid beer fan, buy it at the Generale store located at the port entrance. Alcohol in Tunisia is sold only in trade establishments under this brand. Remember that Friday is sacred for Muslims, and you will not be able to purchase alcoholic beverages on this day, as well as in the holy month of Ramadan.

How to get there

Tourists traveling to the resort of Port El Kantaoui arrive here by airplanes that land either at the airport of the country's capital, Tunisia, or at the airports of the cities of Monastir (named after Habib Bourguiba) and Enfidha. The last two options are the most convenient, since the distance from both airports to the resort is about 25 km - you will have to travel no more than half an hour.

From the airport, you will need to travel to Sousse by train (from Tunisia), taxi or bus (from two nearby airports). Various modes of transport run between Sousse and Port El Kantaoui. The choice is wide: public accordion buses of the STS company, owned by the municipality, where the fare is 1.5 dinars; taxi, where you will have to pay from 10 to 12 dinars for travel, depending on how far your hotel is located from the port; tuk-tuks and trains (on average 3-5 dinars). You can get to Port El Kantaoui by an exotic form of transport - a horse carriage. For a romantic trip with luggage, get ready to part with 10-15 dinars.

In the very center of Port El Kantaoui is located

Zoo-Botanic Park OASIS is small but cozy. A ticket costs 5 dinars, for children it is free, there they also sell for 1 dinar different packages of food for the inhabitants of the Oasis.

Children will be interested in the zoo, there are many small and large birds, including ostriches, small camels, goats, rabbits and guinea pigs. This is a great place both for family holidays and for fun and lively companies, from where you can bring home a lot of impressions and memories.

The first, 6,127 meters long, is designed for 72 pairs and 18 holes, and the second, 6,409 meters long, for the same number of pairs and holes.

What is Port El Kantaoui resort

On the initiative of President Habib Bourguiba, the Societe d "Etudes et de Developpement in Sousse-Nord" was created in 1979 to plan the resort and appoint contractors.

Already in the early 80s were built: an artificial harbor and a yacht port (pictured on the left), adjacent infrastructure, the first golf course and several hotels.

Around the port are concentrated restaurants and cafes, a tourist market, amusement parks: Aqua Palace water park, Hannibal park, fountains. At the entrance to the port, there is a small section of the wall imitating the traditional medina (the center of an Arab city surrounded by a wall). The buildings around are made in white and blue; according to the architect's idea, the area should repeat the famous one. Narrow stone-paved streets and arches heighten the feeling of being in Tunisia, not 21st century but 18th or 19th century.

Around greenery, flowers and date palms. Tourists have only the most pleasant impressions of the Port El Kantaoui area. See a small photo gallery below.

There is a street from the port to the north and south. The main hotels of the resort are located on the coastal side of it. On the opposite side there are restaurants, shops, private houses and several hotels.

The Tunisians later used the experience of construction in El Kantaoui to build the second large artificial resort zone of the country -.

Port El Kantaoui is a luxury tourist complex built at the end of the 20th century, which is a resort area with expensive hotels, an embankment with a yacht parking, restaurants, clubs and thalassotherapy centers. The resort is very festive, with a lot of entertainment, with a smart crowd, beautiful sea views and swaying snow-white yachts. Here, unlike other resorts, it is clean, garbage is not visible anywhere.

The sea in Port el-Kantaoui, however, did not seem very clean to me. But I compare it with Mahdia and the outskirts of Sousse - in the center of Sousse, the sea is in about the same state. I didn't really like the beaches either - beach lovers should go to completely different resorts, which are large in Tunisia. And, of course, prices. They are much higher here than in other resorts of the country: hotels, food in restaurants, thalassotherapy, other services, and the cost of souvenirs are more expensive.

I would like to say a few words about hotels. The hotels here are all very good, clean, with polite staff, good food and decent furniture. There are hotels of famous chains such as El Muradi and Iberostar.

How much does it cost to stay in Port El Kantaoui? August 2014.

tour cost

We rested together with my husband from 1 to 15 August 2014 (14 nights) at the El Kantaoui Center 4 * hotel. The cost of the hotel and the flight from Moscow to Enfidha airport was 68,400 rubles (meals - all inclusive). The hotel has two types of rooms Standard and ROH room (as the agency explained to us - in the second case, the type of check-in depends on the availability of rooms), at the time of purchase a tour with a Standard room cost 4.5 thousand rubles more. We decided to take the ROH room and, if necessary, pay extra at the hotel. The provided room suited us (fairly fresh renovation, two rooms), and remained in it

We went on an excursion that included a visit to the capital - the city of Tunisia (something like a sightseeing tour of the city and about an hour independent walking tour of the city center and Medina); the Bardo Mosaic Museum; blue and white town of Sidi Bou Said and the ruins of Carthage. The cost of the tour is 94 dinars per person (1900 rubles). The price also included lunch. The tour was bought at the hotel from a travel agency representative. In the Museum of Mosaics and Carthage, they bought tickets for the right to photograph (20 rubles in each place). In the mosaic museum (somewhere in the middle of the exposition) an employee approached us and asked us to show a ticket.

An excursion to the Sahara for 2 days costs 4600 per person.

Food and products

We bought peaches several times - a little cheaper than 60 rubles. per kg, very aromatic and tasty. The price is approximately the same as in the General State store and in the market. We bought olive oil in a liter tin can - 200 rubles (by the way, in duty free the same oil cost 10 euros). We took the most expensive one, in the same container you can buy for 150 rubles. Halva (350 gr) from 50 to 90 rubles - depending on the manufacturer and the nuts added to it (with pistachios, the most expensive)
