We make a box for tools with our own hands. We make a tool box with our own hands A wooden box for a tool with our own hands

Highly easy-to-make organizer for small hardware(screws, studs, washers, nuts, etc.), which can be made in just a few minutes from cardboard box and plastic yogurt jars.

As you know, do-it-yourselfers who actively use various small hardware in their work (studs, screws, nuts, washers, etc.) constantly have to solve the problem of their placement and storage.

So I now have a rather acute problem of placing such small fasteners. Moreover, this is largely due to the fact that for the third week now there have been decent frosts on the street so that there is no way to work in the workshop. Therefore, involuntarily, one has to relocate home and already at home and work on homemade products, at least those that can be made at home.

And so, in order to solve the problem of placing small fasteners at home, I decided to make a fairly simple organizer, and literally from the trash.

To do this, I needed the following supplies:

Materials:

Milk carton box;
- Plastic yogurt jars.

Instruments:

Pencil;
- Strong scissors;
- Construction or clerical knife;
- Stationery stapler.

Making an organizer

First cut with scissors upper part boxes from milk packages, while focusing on the side walls.

Then we strengthen the gluing points of the sides of the box, additionally fastening them with staples using a clerical stapler, just in case, so that they do not disperse.

Now, with a pencil, we mark in the bottom of the box, the places of cutouts for jars of yogurt and cut them out with a clerical knife.

In this case, you can cut out one slot, use the cut out part as a template for marking subsequent slots.

You can not care about the accuracy and evenness of the edges of the slots, since they will not be visible anyway.

I made seven slots in the bottom of the box, four slots for small yogurt jars and three for larger jars.

Now you can insert empty jars themselves into the slots made, which will serve as containers for storing our hardware.

And now our organizer is ready!

And this is what it looks like from below!

Now, you can fill the jars with hardware.

In the end, it turned out to be a pretty good organizer!

To be honest, I was afraid that because of the slots, the bottom of the box might lose its rigidity and become not very strong. But it turned out that the bottom retained its strength and rigidity quite well and, in principle, can easily withstand an even greater load (if, for example, all the jars are filled to the top with hardware).

Another convenience of this organizer is that each jar is easily removed from its slot. So if necessary, any jar can be removed from the slot to be replaced or moved to another location.

In addition, you can make several of these organizers and put them one on top of the other.

A real owner always takes care of the safety of his tools. Even a small set should be stored in an orderly, neat manner. A skilled craftsman can assemble a container for tools and fixtures on their own. Below we will talk about how to make a tool box with your own hands. The presented photos and videos will help in the work.

Outwardly, the box looks solid and stylish, it immediately declares a serious approach to the life of its owner. Its dimensions (70x40x45 cm), i.e. 70 cm wide, 40 cm deep, 45 cm high. This is sufficient to accommodate hand tool. The drawer has 3 drawers, as well as a top hinged lid that opens up a spacious compartment. This box allows you to protect tools from dust, organize safe storage.

Required Tools

To make a wooden box, you will need the following tools:

  • a circular saw;
  • milling machine;
  • grinder;
  • clamp;
  • a hammer;
  • wire cutters;
  • file;
  • wood saw;
  • chisel.

Step-by-step instructions for making a tool box

The optimal material for the manufacture of the frame is oak wood. It's lovely durable material which differs in durability and resistance to mechanical influences. It is better to take as a basis - glued boards with a thickness of 19 mm. This material has no knots and rotten inclusions. With the help of a circular cut a strip 38 mm wide.

So that when gluing individual elements did not move relative to each other, a carnation is driven into the first part a little, its cap is removed with wire cutters, and then a second board is stuffed onto the protruding sharp tip.

The boards are additionally coated with glue and fixed.

The glue that has come out at the joints of the parts is removed with a chisel, you just have to wait for the glue to dry a little.

The result should be a 38x38 mm part. Its butt is polished.

The edge must be cut strictly at an angle of 90 °, so when cutting the part to the desired length, one must not forget about the cut angle.

This technique will help to ensure the accuracy of the cut angle.

The location of each part is marked so as not to get confused during assembly.

A groove is cut in each part along the entire length, it must go strictly in the center.

Grooves can be made either using a stationary circular saw or with a milling machine.

On parts that are intended for the manufacture of vertical corner supports of the frame, transverse markings are made.

In the rear corner parts make another longitudinal groove. It is not needed in the front corner bearings.

For subsequent fastening in the end part of the blanks, you need to find the center, noting the point of intersection of the diagonals.

It is necessary to carefully check the compatibility of the blanks.

The blanks are processed with a file.

In a freely assembled frame, marks are made to subsequently lengthen the grooves.

The grooves are cut with a hacksaw for wood.

Remove all excess with a chisel.

These blanks are needed for drawers. A corner is sawn from the end part.

Each blank is drilled for bolting.

Observing accuracy, it is necessary to drill the prepared parts.

The part intended for fixing and dividing 2 drawers is cut out at an angle of 90°.

Having installed the details for the movement of the boxes in place and fixing them, they gradually begin to screw them.

The corners of plywood blanks are cut off, as in the photo.

The walls of the lower drawers are attached to plywood sheets with self-tapping screws.

Prepared horizontal plywood parts are attached to one side. First, this is done without the use of glue.

During fixation with clamps, it is necessary to check the diagonal so that the dimensions match.

Drawers are made from plywood.

The grooves can be cut either on a stationary saw or with a milling cutter.

Details of drawers are fastened with glue.

The side parts of the boxes must have grooves for movement along the planks fixed inside.

For strength, the side parts are fastened with dowels, which are cut flush.

For reliability when gluing, small carnations are partially driven into the surface of the front wall of the drawers, their caps are removed.

By attaching the front panels to drawers, see if the individual elements are evenly spaced.

When gluing, it is necessary to observe the utmost accuracy, there should be no gaps.

At the end, the top frame of the box is made of plywood.

To make a precise cut at a 45° angle, it is advisable to use a special tool.

The blanks for the frame are connected and fixed when glued using a tension belt.

The life of the present home master not conceivable without a large number manual and mechanical assistants used for processing wood, metal, performing various kinds works. Used to store tools various fixtures industrial production and self-manufacturing. Among the most common ways to store and carry special place take up toolboxes.

For self-creation similar products can be used lumber or artificial wood materials– chipboard, plywood or OSB boards.

The process of making such a product allows you to get a container for the dimensions of specific tools, in contrast to purchased ready-made boxes. Below, the attention of readers will be offered a description of the sequence of work on the manufacture of such boxes.

The product shown below can be used for temporary storage and transport of some tools to the job site.

Or stationery, which are often widely used when marking up.

Making a box will require the preparation of the following materials:

  • softwood or hardwood board 20 x 100 x 850 mm thick.
  • round wooden rod with a diameter of 20 and a length of 260 mm;
  • wood screws - 8 pcs. 32 mm long;
  • wood glue;
  • sandpaper.

From the tools you need to prepare a ruler, a pencil, a jigsaw, a drill, a screwdriver and a grinder of any kind.

We start work with marking the details. To do this, on the prepared planed board, we apply the contours of future details - the end and side walls, the bottom.

We cut out the parts with an electric jigsaw, having previously installed a file for a clean cut. The edges and planes of the obtained parts are carefully processed with sandpaper.

AT end walls centered on equal distance from the bottom edge we mark the center and drill a blind hole about ten millimeters deep, the diameter of which is equal to the diameter of the round rod. Along the side and bottom edges, we drill three through holes with a diameter of 4-5 millimeters for installing screws. In the same way, we make two holes in the bottom of the future box.

After preparing the holes, you can begin to assemble the product. To ensure maximum strength, the edges of the side walls and bottom should be smeared with glue by applying it thin layer. The ends of the round rod are also pre-coated with glue.

Install the side walls and the bottom with one of the ends to the curly walls and attach the parts with self-tapping screws. Install the rod in the prepared hole with one of the ends. After that, perform the same operations with the second curly wall. To protect the material of the drawer, treat the surfaces with an oil-based or nitro-based clear varnish.

The design of the second tool box is more capacious, has increased dimensions compared to the first. For its manufacture, you will need sheets of plywood or OSB boards with a thickness of 15 and 10 millimeters. You also need to prepare the following tools: a ruler and a pencil for marking, a jigsaw for cutting parts and pens, a screwdriver, self-tapping screws for assembly 30 millimeters long, sandpaper or grinding machine to perform finishing of wet and flat parts.

The dimensions of the product are 600 × 400x200 millimeters. Inside, in the upper part of the container, two drawers are installed for small parts and tools glued together from more thin plywood. For their fixation, two guides are attached along the side walls, made in the form of strips no more than three centimeters thick.

We begin the process of manufacturing a tool box by marking out the details of a large and small insert boxes. If necessary, each master can vary the estimated size of the product depending on the purpose. The marked parts are cut with an electric jigsaw and cleaned with sanding paper. Details of small boxes are assembled with glue. For better connection internal walls dividing the space into separate sections, shallow grooves can be made along the thickness of the material. Clamps and other clamping devices will help facilitate the gluing job.

We assemble the parts of a large box using self-tapping screws. To improve the assembly quality, insert self-tapping screws into pre-drilled and countersunk holes.

Do not forget to fix with self-tapping screws two guides parallel to the bottom of the box, on which small containers will rest.

For the manufacture of the handle, you can use the option proposed in the design indicated above, or install it on self-tapping screws sufficient length round rod. As a blank for him, a piece of cuttings for agricultural implements, which is not difficult to purchase at any hardware store, may be suitable.

Plywood does not apply to moisture resistant materials. To protect the product when working outdoors, it is necessary to impregnate all parts of the box with some protective composition, stain or varnish.

Thus, by performing a few simple operations, everyone can make for themselves convenient fixture for carrying and storing tools. The use of such a box will greatly facilitate the process of performing repair and construction works not only indoors, but also on the territory of the land.

In order not to waste time looking for tools (hammer, screwdrivers, wire cutters), you should store them in one place. But what to do if all the shelves and cabinets in the house are full? Great solution this problem will become homemade box for tools. You do not need any special knowledge or skills. The manufacturing process itself portable box will take no more than 3-4 hours.

Where to start?

The first thing you need to decide is the size of the box. It all depends on the size, quantity and total weight tools that will be stored in it. As for the configuration, it does not really matter. Ready product can have a square, rectangular and any other shape. As you wish.

Homemade is usually made from lumber or artificial wood(OSB boards, plywood sheet, chipboard). Often used various metals and high strength plastic. It is difficult for beginners to work with these materials. Therefore, they prefer wood.

If you do not want to make blunders and waste time, then listen to the recommendations below. Only in this case, you can count on a good result.

1. To make a convenient and reliable tool box with your own hands, you must first draw up a design drawing. This is done taking into account the type, quantity and total weight of the instruments.

2. Typically, boxes are made from boards previously used in other designs. Before reuse, they are cleaned of dirt and dust residues. For light tools, it is better to take plywood, and for heavy ones, strong boards.

3. On wooden surfaces markings are applied to all the details of the box. Next, we cut the blanks using a jigsaw or saw with fine teeth.

4. Want to do open box for DIY tools? This design provides for the presence of a central handle. To install it, you need to drill 2 blind holes.

5. Assembly of parts is carried out using screws and self-tapping screws. Securely fix the handle and glue all seams.

6. Making a DIY tool box is only half the battle. It still needs to be attractive. You can cover the surface of the box with paint or a special varnish.

Tools and materials

Very soon we will begin the practical part, but for now we will prepare everything you need. So, for work we need:

  • drill;
  • PVA glue;
  • plywood (thickness 12 mm);
  • saw blade for wood jigsaw;
  • a hammer;
  • jigsaw with 45 degree angle sawing function;
  • varnish for wooden surfaces;
  • drill;
  • several bars 15x15 mm;
  • clamps;
  • small nails.

Making a do-it-yourself tool box: step-by-step instruction

What should we end up with? A wooden structure where wire cutters, screwdrivers, a hammer and other tools will be stored in the future. The action plan is the following:

Step number 1. To begin with, we take plywood in our hands. We will use it to make the side walls of the box. In order for the ends to fit well with each other, they need to be cut a little by placing the jigsaw file at an angle of 45 degrees. Experts call this type of docking a "moustache connection".

Step number 2. Coat the ends with carpentry glue. If you could not buy it anywhere, then use PVA.

Step number 3. We proceed to the assembly of the entire structure. So that the parts do not crumble, they need to be fixed with tape. Make sure the walls are connected evenly. Now we are waiting for our workpiece to dry.

Step number 4. We nail the slats to the existing structure that will hold the bottom of the box. You need to be careful here, because the nails are very small.

Step number 5. We make the bottom of the box, and then glue it to the rails. We use the same PVA.

Step number 6. For the convenience of carrying the box, we make a handle. We take a thin board. With an electric jigsaw, we cut out the thinning on it. It is very important. Also remember to cut out small rectangles from each corner of the handle. Their depth is equal to the thickness of the plywood from which the sidewalls are made.

Step number 7. In the side walls, we drill and bore cutouts for the handle. Make sure nothing is loose. The sidewalls of the handle and the walls of the box should have blind holes for inserting dowels.

Step number 8. We proceed to the assembly of the handle. We thoroughly coat all its joints with the sidewalls, as well as the sidewalls with the walls with PVA. Gradually we collect the details of the handle. We fix its position with the help of clamps.

Step number 9. All that remains for us to make is a holder for compasses, chisels and screwdrivers. We will use plywood. We cut out a strip from it, the width of which is 4-5 cm, and the length is internal size long side of the box. Then we drill holes for the tools. We coat the strip with glue and attach it to one of the walls using clamps. Once the glue is completely dry, you can proceed to finishing box surface. For this purpose, varnish or paint is suitable.

Conclusion

Now you know how to make a tool box yourself. There is nothing complicated here. The main thing is to clearly follow the instructions described above. The materials from which the structure is created can be easily purchased at any hardware store.

When you have a workshop or a garage, then nothing stops us from acquiring all sorts of little things: nuts, washers, self-tapping screws, bolts, small nails, staples, and so on. But sooner or later the day comes and you begin to understand that there is not enough space. In fact, there is a lot of space, you just need to be able to store it correctly. Let's look at some options for storing every little thing in your workshop, garage or apartment.

Washers, screws, dowels - yes, there are a lot of things on the farm

Buy or make your own box

There is no single answer, as you can imagine. Someone just likes to do everything with their own hands, and someone is lazy. Someone thinks that a few rubles, hryvnias, dollars or zlotys for a simple box is inexpensive and, most importantly, without wasting precious time. Well, someone better tinker Nth quantity time at the workbench to make a one-of-a-kind change box.

We have no right to advise you on how to proceed in this situation. Choose for yourself, buy or make your own, spend money or spend time, enjoy manual labor or hiking hardware stores. But we know one thing for sure: a box, a box, an organizer, or whatever you want to call it - it must have several characteristics:

Purchasable Options

There are plenty of organizers in the markets or in stores now. It remains only to choose the right one. What troubles can we expect when buying and what places in such organizers are considered weak:

Homemade fixtures

These include those that are made entirely with their own hands, and those that are intended for storing other things, but were purchased by you specifically for hardware. These can be coffee cans or storage boxes. food products, or maybe it's a plywood box or a converted kitchen wall cabinet. Let's give some recommendations:

Instead of a conclusion

Proper storage in the workshop is not only a convenience for the owner, but also maintaining order, and this is sometimes even more important. Then you can show your favorite to the envy of your neighbor workplace, and reproach his wife that the garage is cleaner than the house. Jokes are jokes, but an organizer, even purchased, even with your own hands, is very necessary thing which should be in every wizard.
