Quarter installation
There are two main ways to install this:
- to eliminate voids between the door niche and the wall, the extensions are wedged;
- the groove is formed from one large and several small wooden blocks screwed to the door block. Installation using the second method will be discussed below.

- Continue forming the groove by screwing small pieces of wood to the block.
- Take four measurements at different distances from the door niche to the edge of the wall.

For finishing, you can use bars 30-40 cm long, which must be glued around the perimeter of the extension, and fill the remaining space with polyurethane foam. They can be used to adjust the location of the frame, after which all that remains is to install the extension into the groove and fill the gap with foam.
Measuring the size of the extension. Measurements are taken at several points (preferably four). Sometimes the readings differ, and if any deviations are detected, then the maximum size should be taken as the base size. When everything is assembled, the additional line should be flush with the line of the opening itself, and if there are extra millimeters, then they should be removed using a plane. In the future, all this will be closed in cash.
Using small galvanized nails, it is necessary to attach the additional extension of the structure to the base from the reverse side. It is better to take a step from 20 to 35 cm. You can also simply install it in a recess, but before that you need to join the places with glue.
If there is no notch
If the manufacturer has made a box beam without a notch, then you can select the quarter yourself using a milling machine with a straight cutter and a built-in ruler. Or you can attach the extensions to the box beam by drilling holes through. This is done with self-tapping screws. The through holes intended for fastening the planks have different diameters along the entire length. First of all, use a drill with the diameter of the screw head, and then with a diameter that is equal to the barrel of this fastener. You can install additional elements on bars, which must first be attached to the wall using self-tapping screws. The first element should be located at a distance of 29 cm from the floor, and the rest can be placed at 60 cm.
You can also install the extension together with the box inside a plywood or plasterboard base. The connection of a box beam without a quarter can also be carried out by installing a rail that will run along the aligned line with outside designs.
The fastening of the plank or rail should not be continuous; it is necessary to fasten it in separate sections.

Basic algorithm for installing accessories

Expanding the box with additions using drywall
Using a milling machine, you need to create a 1 cm groove in the box. We make this groove along the entire perimeter of the box. We glue the false slopes and strengthen them with self-tapping screws. You can take as a basis not only plasterboard, but also magnesite board, moisture resistant plywood, OSB or even GVL.

Mounting wedges must be positioned around the entire perimeter of the block. The technological gap formed between the wall and the frame is filled with polyurethane foam in 2 or even 3 times. How to make a supplement yourself?
To make a door frame with your own hands, you need to select a perfectly even strip, equal in width to the door frame and matching it in color and material. Thanks to the additions, you can aesthetically frame the doorway, both the entrance and interior door. You can independently cut out the additional board of the required size. But it’s still easier to buy ready-made accessories in advance along with the door.

Installation of extensions without a groove
After installing the door in the doorway, it is necessary to measure the remaining uncovered part of the wall (slopes). If the extensions have to be cut along the long side, then it is better to do this also in a furniture workshop. If the slopes are not plastered, then the extension should be secured as follows: take a wooden plank or small beam and attach it to the slopes in such a way that the extension can be secured on top of this plank, while maintaining its verticality (horizontal for the upper extension) and a right angle between it and the door frame.
With smooth plastered slopes, you can do without an additional wooden plank, provided that there is no need to leave any space between the extension and the wall.
- Attach the extension to the bar.
- Fill the remaining space between the wall and the extension with polyurethane foam. To make the foam harden faster, spray it with water.
- Trim off any excess hardened foam.
- Secure the trims.
Benefits of using extras
As you can see, the technology of fixing the extensions allows you to avoid such a tedious procedure as plastering the slopes. The entire block is assembled like a construction set, inserting the protrusions of some elements into the recesses of others. For strength, additional strips and trims are placed on glue or “liquid nails”. The structure assembled in this way looks like one whole.
When installing telescopic extensions, the “tenon and groove” method is used.

- To ensure the immovability of the extensions, they are temporarily attached to the walls and box with masking adhesive tape.
- Eliminate voids formed between the additional plank and the wall by filling the gaps with polyurethane foam. As a rule, spacers are installed between the extensions. If there are no spacers, the gap is foamed in several stages so that an overly saturated layer of foam does not squeeze the extensions inward doorway.

- They wait several hours and after the foam has hardened, cut off the excess with a knife.

Installation without groove
If there is no special groove in the door frame, the extensions are attached end-to-end. Such installation requires very precise (up to a millimeter) measurements, careful adjustment of additional strips and special care during installation.
- Measure the width of the slopes using the same method as when installing extensions in the groove.
- Trim the additional strips to the required size. If there are extra millimeters left after sawing, they are cut off with a plane.
- Edge tape is glued to the resulting sections. To do this, the edge is ironed with a hot iron, as a result of which the glue on the back side melts and the tape is firmly attached to the bar.

- Thin nails are driven halfway into the ends of the extensions in increments of 20–25 cm. If additional glue is used, three nails are enough for the vertical extension and one (in the middle) for the horizontal.
- Nail heads are bitten off at an angle to ensure a sharp end.

- Install the extensions in place - first the side strips, then the top. The vertical extension is pressed tightly at the bottom, slammed down and finished off with a hammer so that the nail fits into the door frame. Then they nail the middle, then the top. Make sure that there are no gaps between the panels and the box.
- The upper horizontal bar is placed on the vertical ones, the right angle is checked and nailed with a hammer.

- The gaps between the wall and the extension are foamed in the same way as when installing the extensions in the groove.
Installation of platbands
After the extensions are installed and the mounting foam has dried, the trims are attached.
- Measure the height of the side strips. To do this, add the width of the upper casing to the height of the doorway.
The length of the vertical casing is calculated taking into account the width of the horizontal
- The top of the right casing is filed at an angle of 45 degrees so that the edge of the plank that will be adjacent to the trim is shorter.
A miter box will help you cut the casing at an angle of exactly 45 degrees.
- Also at an angle of 45 degrees, but in a mirror image, the top of the left casing is filed down.
- The excess length is sawed off from the trim.
- The vertical trims are installed in place and each is attached to two nails - at the bottom and in the middle.
- Apply the top casing and make markings.
It is advisable to bite off the heads of the nails. So they will be almost invisible
If self-tapping screws are used instead of nails, then first drill a hole into which the head will sink. Then they are screwed in and the caps are closed with special plastic plugs.
Installing extensions for interior doors yourself is not difficult, although the process cannot be called quick. But if everything is done correctly, the new door block will become the main decoration of the room.
