Story

Bus station

Kamenka was founded at the beginning of the 18th century in the area of \u200b\u200ban ancient stone ford across the Atmis River on the way from Penza to Nizhny Lomov and Tambov, and even earlier, apparently, from the Golden Horde city of Ukek (now in Saratov) to the city of Mokhshi (Narovchat). The settlement was named after this ford. In 1710 - the village of Zavalny Stan of the Penza district, 8 yards of Major General, Brigadier Ivan Mikhailovich Golovin. In 1717 it was called “the village of Dmitrievskoe (Kamenka, too)” (after the church in the name of St. Dmitry Thessaloniki), it was destroyed by the Kuban people, the church was burned down. Around 1730 a new Dmitrievskaya church was built. At the end of the 18th century - an agricultural village with small oil mills based on the cultivation of hemp and potash factories; Atmis had 4 water mills. Thanks to the large Penza-Tambov road, the peasants earned money on the transport of merchant goods, were engaged in petty trade and the provision of services to the road. Local residents took part in the Peasant War on the side of Yemelyan Pugachev (1774), and the peasant Ivan Ivanov gathered here a small detachment, which he tried to capture Penza.

In 1932, a sugar beet base was founded, and the construction of a sugar factory began. In 1938, there were 430 workers at the brick, cereal, butter and cheese factories, elevator, etc., the length of the streets was 15 km, of which 7 km were paved; there were 5 schools, a 70-bed hospital, a cultural center, 3 clubs, 3 libraries, a rest house for 250 beds. The process of transformation from a village to a city was accelerated by the Great Patriotic War, as the factories evacuated from the Ukraine from Kirovograd - "Krasnaya Zvezda" and "Kommunar" from Zaporozhye, were located in Kamenka, on the basis of which the production of mines, shells and aerial bombs was deployed; from 13/04/1943 the production of horse seeders began. An evacuation hospital No. 3289 was opened in the former Voeikov estate.
