What types of martial arts exist. Types of martial arts

It is still not clear which martial art is best suited for self-defense? Fencing? Well, walking with a blunt sword through the gateways is not the most good idea. Some that only a gray-haired monk and a couple of hundred adepts around the world know about? Street fighting skills are also not always enough, because the hooligans who decide to pick your pockets most likely know them just as well as you. So it’s very difficult to say right away, probably everyone has their own opinion, and boxing is enough for someone. Therefore, it makes no sense to exalt one martial art over others, instead, we will offer 7 highly effective types of martial arts, ideal for self-defense. Very short review and the right to choose at your own discretion.

Jujutsu

Country of origin: Japan
Also known as: juju
Nickname:"The Art of Softness"
Famous fighters: Ice-T

History of Jiu-Jitsu

Many of the modern and popular styles of martial arts, including judo, aikido, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, have their origins in classic Japanese jiu-jitsu.
By by and large, without jiu-jitsu, the modern scuffle fair would not be what we know it in its current form. It may seem to someone that the jiu-jitsu federation paid us extra, but in fact, many martial arts would lose their effectiveness.

So, jiu-jitsu, or as they say in Japan, juju was one of the fundamental methods of samurai combat training. Well, of course, when it comes to Japan, it's somehow about samurai, or technology, or geisha, or really bad porn.

As you know, the samurai's equipment made him a killing machine, but anything can happen in battle, and in frequent cases, when a warrior was left without a sword, dagger and bow, he had to fight with the last weapon that he had left - with his hands and feet, and more often everything against an armed enemy.
The literal translation of "jujutsu" can be confusing. "The Art of Softness"... are you serious!? Powerful and effective techniques, invented in order, if not to kill, then simply to lay down the enemy with bare hands give the least softness.

Why is Jiu-Jitsu one of the best martial arts?

Jiu-jitsu is one of the most effective martial arts in the world because it uses the aggressiveness and momentum of the attacker against him. In fact, this is the art of counterattack, self-defense in its purest form. It made no sense for a chained and tired samurai to rush to the tip of a spear or sword, it was easier for him to kill the enemy with his own energy. In addition, hitting the armor with your hands and feet is not entirely effective, but dodging, intercepting the blow and planting the enemy on his own weapon is quite useful.

The basic principle of jiu-jitsu is “not to go into direct confrontation in order to win”, not to resist, but to yield to the onslaught of the enemy, only directing his actions in the right direction until he is trapped, and then reverse the strength and actions of the enemy against himself.

Jiu-Jitsu combat techniques are based on the knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and psychophysiology, as well as on filigree technique, brought to automatism and the nuances of the strategy and tactics of the fight. There is no place for all sorts of dance "pas" and techniques in the style of "cinema". There is only one task: to destroy your enemy or enemies as quickly as possible, using any methods that are in your arsenal.

taekwondo

Country of origin: Korea
Also known as: Taekwondo, Taekwon
Nickname:"The Path of the Brush and the Fist"
Famous fighters: Barack Obama, Steven Seagal, Jessica Alba, Willie Nelson

History of taekwondo

Taekwondo is very closely intertwined with the history of Korea itself, which is probably why in recent years it has been developing as successfully as Kim Jong-un's southern neighbor.
Originally there were nine taekwondo kwans (schools) that were recognized by the Government South Korea. Each school had its own unique style taekwondo. In 1955, the nine kwans were merged into the one commonly studied today. In order to describe the history of this art in more detail, a separate article is needed, it is enough to say that all political events, including the notorious Korean War, strongly affected the appearance of martial arts.

Why is taekwondo one of the best martial arts?

When in films with high-intensity martial arts for one frame, a fighter kicks quickly and briskly, then most likely he uses taekwondo. Actually, powerful high kicks, and make taekwondo so effective view martial arts.
The main charm of taekwondo is not only that one good kick can put an opponent out of action, but that this martial art is extremely effective against several opponents. Unless, of course, they know taekwondo.
The word "taekwondo" is made up of three words: "tae" - leg, "kwon" - fist (hand), "do" - art, the path of taekwondo, the path to improvement (the path of the arm and leg).
Taekwondo is the only martial art on this list that is an Olympic sport. But Olympic restraint and fear of death did not make it less effective.

Krav Maga

Country of origin: Israel
Also known as:"Contact Fight"
Famous fighters: Eyal Yanilov

History of Krav Maga

Krav Maga has long been recognized as one of the best martial arts for self-defense in the world. This type of martial arts owes its birth to the outstanding fighter Imi Lichtenfeld. Initially, he taught his fighting system in Bratislava to help protect the Jewish community from Nazi armed groups. He created a group of trained thugs with characteristic surnames and noses, who did their best to protect the Jewish population from the growing, and at the same time very radical, manifestations of anti-Semitism.

After arriving in Palestine, Lichtenfeld began teaching hand-to-hand combat in the Haganah. After the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, he became the chief physical and hand-to-hand combat instructor at the Israel Defense Forces Combat Training School. Lichtenfeld served in the IDF until 1964, constantly developing and improving his system. After his retirement, Krav Maga was adapted by him to civilian realities. In fact, Krav Maga is his brainchild.

Why is Krav Maga one of the best martial arts?

Krav Maga is designed to quickly neutralize the threat. The tricks are simple and often very dirty. However, the Jews did not have to choose. There is even a saying: "If the reception looks good and beautiful, then this is not Krav Maga."

There are three main principles of Krav Maga:

The most important thing is to neutralize the threat.
- Simultaneous defense and attack. Unlike many styles of martial arts, attacks and defenses in Krav Maga are intertwined during combat.
- All blocks are built on opening the fighter the opportunity for a counterattack.
All Krav Maga attacks target vulnerabilities human body such as eyes, face, throat, neck, groin and fingers. There is no place for ceremonies, philosophy and other nuances inherent in martial arts. This art was created in order to quickly and painfully eliminate an opponent. Therefore, it was adopted by the Israel Defense Forces. There is no need to bow to the military, the military needs to kill, or at least cut down.

This is a deadly fighting style that recognizes no etiquette. It was born on the basis of the fighting techniques of other martial arts, in street fights with Jewish pogromists with exactly one goal - to help the Jews survive. So if you need a simple and effective way to survive in real conditions, and not a beautiful solemn martial art with your inner culture, then all attention is on Krav Maga.

Aikido

Country of origin: Japan
Nickname:"Way of Spiritual Harmony"
Famous fighters: Steven Seagal, Matt Larsen

History of aikido
Aikido is not exclusively a combat system. The founder of aikido, the legendary Morihei Ueshiba, studied several areas of traditional jujutsu, kenjutsu, and the art of calligraphy. On the basis of the acquired knowledge, he formed his own system - Aikido - as opposed to the traditional bu-jutsu (the art of killing). Aikido - budo (the way to stop killing), teaches deadly bu-jutsu techniques, not only with the aim of killing, but with the aim of stopping them, making a person strong, helping others, uniting all people on the basis of love. As they say, kindness must be with fists.
Ueshiba once said, "Controlling aggression without causing harm is the art of peace."
Aikido is also a highly spiritual martial art. The word aikido means "the way of the harmony of the spirit" ("Ai" means harmony, "ki" means spirit or energy, "do" means a way, road or way).

Why is Aikido one of the best martial arts?

As a preface, aikido is one of the most difficult of all Japanese martial arts. If you want to quickly, in a short time, learn self-defense, then aikido is not your assistant here.

Aikido is a derivative of jujutsu, and similarly focuses on merging with the opponent's attack, redirecting the attacker's energy, and ending with a painful hold or throw. Aikido fighters use the opponent's aggression and momentum to incapacitate him or render his attacks useless.
However, one should not think that since the development of aikido takes a long time, and the style itself promotes peace and tranquility, then there is little sense from it. This is one of the best martial arts suitable for self defense.

wing chun

Country of origin: China
Also known as: Wing Tsun
Nickname:"Singing Spring"
Famous fighters: Bruce Lee, Robert Downey Jr., Christian Bale

History of Wing Chun

The history of Wing Chun is a mixture of fact and legend. Most boil down to the fact that it was developed in the 17th century, as an offshoot of one of the most difficult styles of martial arts studied by the stern and die-hard Buddhist monks. There is talk of the nun Umei, who created a martial art capable of being effective regardless of size, weight, or gender.

Why is wing chun one of the best martial arts?

As in other wushu techniques, it is based on the “chi-sao” technique - “sticky hands”, thanks to which the fighter learns to constantly be in contact with the enemy with his hands, feel all his movements and prevent him from conducting his techniques. But wing chun fighters fight at a short distance, where you can reach the enemy with your hand, and even better - with your elbow. In order to break through to a sufficiently close distance, special types movements. Kicks are used in combination with punches. Usually kicks hit the opponent's knees at the same time as an upper level attack with hands.

What wing chun masters are really proud of is their balance between attack and defense, they can attack and defend at the same time. And real masters are famous for their ability to correctly choose a position, so competently that it is literally impossible to take them by surprise.

brazilian jiu-jitsu

Country of origin: Japan/Brazil
Also known as: Jiu-jitsu, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu
Nickname:"Human Chess"
Famous fighters: Carlos Gracie, Helio Gracie, BJ Penn, Joe Rogan, Paul Walker, Michael Clarke Duncan

History of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Like aikido, Brazilian jiu-jitsu is an adapted version of jiu-jitsu. Martial arts are very fond of Brazil, and therefore they gladly developed the technique shown by the outstanding jiu-jitsu master Mitsuyo Maeda during his visit to the sunny country.
The founders and creators of Brazilian jiu-jitsu (bjj) are the brothers Carlos and Helio Gracie. Carlos showed the knowledge received from Maeda to his numerous brothers, trying to teach the wisdom of the East to everyone except the frail and too young Helio. The frustrated boy, who already had a complex from the fact that he was much younger and frailer than his brothers, took and developed the basics of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. This new style martial arts allowed him to use leverage and choke, rather than brute force, to control the fight.
But the real popularizer of martial art was the son of Helio - Royce Gracie. Speaking in the UFC, with the help of BJJ techniques, he easily laid down opponents many times higher and heavier than himself. After the success of Royce, the popularity of BJJ increased significantly.

Why is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu one of the best martial arts?

BJJ is undoubtedly one of the most effective martial arts styles in the world. Almost all MMA and UFC fighters have studied BJJ extensively. The style teaches fighters how to use leverage and proper weight distribution to defeat stronger opponents.

Leverage is the isolation of an opponent's limb to a specific body position that will force the joint to move in a straight line (rotate on its own axis) outside of its normal range of motion. With increasing pressure on the limb, the opponent, unable to avoid this position, surrenders. He can verbally surrender or slap the opponent several times (slapping yourself is dangerous because the opponent may not hear). Choking is used to cut off the oxygen supply to the opponent's brain, which can cause them to become unconscious if they don't give up soon enough. It's clear how dangerous, deadly dangerous view sports, therefore, in some countries sections and tournaments in traffic safety are not approved by law.

Muay Thai

Country of origin: Thailand
Also Known As: Thai boxing
Nickname:"The Art of Eight Limbs"
Famous Fighters: Tony Jaa

History of muay thai

Muay Thai is a Thai style of martial arts with very deep roots. National Thai fighting style, which is not only sports, but also the cultural heritage of the country. The secrets of Muay Thai have been passed down from elder warriors and fathers to children, from generation to generation, and it is perhaps thanks to this traditional struggle that Thailand, surrounded by sworn enemies, has managed to survive through the ages.
A cruel spectacle from which one could emerge either a winner or a loser. They fought not for life, but for death, in the truest sense of the word. It was impossible to give up - shame and contempt for life, so the defeated left the battle either badly beaten or dead.
Over the years, only one thing has changed in Muay Thai - thanks to the introduction of points, it has become unnecessary to die, but the martial art itself has not become softer, fatal outcomes are still not uncommon.

Why is Muay Thai one of the best martial arts?

Muay Thai is not only one of the most effective martial arts in the world, it is also one of the best self defense martial arts. In modern Muay Thai, it is possible to strike with fists, feet, shins, elbows and knees - because of this it is called "fight of eight limbs". In fact, every part of the body becomes a weapon, a deadly weapon. The hands became daggers and sabers; elbows with maces and hammers; knees like axes, and shins and forearms protect the body like armor. There are many devastating lethal strikes that have helped Muay Thai achieve some impressive victories over other martial arts in their time. And until now, this severe martial art causes sacred fear and admiration in everyone.

In addition to the well-known types of martial arts, martial practices that are much less well-known, but no less effective, exist and are still developing in the world.

Taing. Burma

Taing is perhaps the most synthetic martial art. This type of martial arts has absorbed ideas about human behavior in battle. numerous nations inhabiting modern Myanmar. Each tribe had a sacred animal, and it was by its behavior that the fighting style was formed. The Nang and Ravangs have a sacred animal - a wild boar, the Nagas revere a black monkey, a tiger and a wild boar, in the Meras tribe the sacred animal is a tiger, in the We tribe - a deer.
Taing was formed for a long time and still does not stop changing. Having absorbed the "animal" styles, taing after seriously changed, it was affected by the influence of Buddhism with its principle of non-violence - ahimsa. Taing also adopted philosophical principles from Buddhism. The art of combat has become defensive. Technique has changed accordingly.
Currently, the evolution of taing continues. Along with the development of sports taing, in Myanmar itself there are still schools that follow their tradition. Schools of tigers, wild boars and black monkeys.

Krav Maga. Israel

There are no philosophical postulates in Krav Maga. This is an application system. There are no forbidden tricks, no rules for the fight. This combat system is aimed at instantly neutralizing the enemy, without traditional boxing "shuttles" and unnecessary waste of time.
Invented in the 30s of the twentieth century by Imi Lichtenheld (he taught the Jewish community in Bratislava), it eventually became the main Israeli combat system. Today, Krav Maga is a mandatory study in the Israeli army and police. Military experts from other countries also come to study. Krav Maga techniques are simple and reliable. They do not have the quirkiness and prettiness of martial arts. The main goal is disarmament, neutralization.
Even Krav Maga classes are not held in the traditional kimono or sportswear. Pupils practice with their daily clothes, only wearing protection for tough sparring. It becomes necessary - there are no rules. Comedians joke that if there were Krav Maga competitions, the winner would go to intensive care, the silver medalist would be taken away in a wheelchair, the third place winner would immediately go to the cemetery.
During training, loud music can be played, smoke can be blown, explosions can be simulated. All this allows students to adapt to the stressful load. In a real battle, there should be no failures due to external factors.

Mallakhumb. India

From the outside, the art of mallakhamb ("yoga on a pole") resembles polly dance. However, since ancient times, mallakhamb has been part of the Indian combat system. According to legend, the monkey god Hanuman passed on the knowledge of the fight against the pillar to people. Thus, the pillar in mallakhamba is nothing more than an adversary. In addition to the pole, a rope is also used during training, on which asanas are also performed. Each element of the mallakhamba requires increased concentration, proper breathing, strong ligaments and muscles.
Mallakhumb is still part of the training program of the divisions today. indian army. This is a complex system for developing combat skills, tenacity, endurance and flexibility.

Varzeshe zurkhane. Iran

The martial art of the Persians, which is already more than 3000 years old, varzeshe zurkhane is also a type of national education of real Iranian heroes. Those who practice varzeshe-zurkhane are called pahlevans (Persian hero). Classes are held in the "house of power" - zurkhan, in a round recess, fenced with benches. Since ancient times, such "pits" have been used by pahlevans in order to provide temperature control during training. Today it is more of a tribute to tradition.
The main projectile for training Iranian heroes are two maces. They vary in weight. From three to 180 kilograms. Pahlavans perform various (mainly swing) movements with them. Training in this type of wrestling is saturated with ritual. It includes a warm-up, a ritual dance. All this is accompanied by Persian music with rhythmic accompaniment of drums. Conducts classes morshed and miandor. These two people are the main ones in the "house of power". The morshed announces the start of classes, reads a prayer, the miandor shows the movements to the pahlevans.

Arnis. Philippines

Filipinos are renowned martial artists. This applies to both traditional types - such as boxing (Many Pacquiao), and national ones. The Filipino people have developed a unique combat system in which quite everyday things - sticks and knives - are used as weapons. It's called Arnis.
Over the long centuries of development, a strict system of practices was formed in Arnis, which also absorbed external influences. So, colonial period The Philippines allowed sections of the Spanish destrez fencing to be included in the arnis. Arnis is still developing today.
Movement training in arnis is carried out on special triangles with corners of 40 centimeters. This allows students to develop a good intuitive sense of distance, instilling the skill of moving away from the line of impact.
In total, there are 12 basic knots in arnis. Each of the nodes has its own attack, its own system of defense, disarmament and counterattack. Strokes in arnis are carried out on ligaments and painful places. The purpose of the fight is to disarm and neutralize the enemy.
Arnis also has a system of fighting with bare hands, however, unlike the same aikido, where possession of weapons is rather an optional discipline, training in arnis begins with weapons (sticks baston, muton and topado) and knives, and then the student is taught to fight with bare hands.

Wushu/Gongfu

Wushu - Chinese system psychophysical exercises, which has a deep philosophical basis: ignoring the spiritual component, one cannot achieve true mastery and physical perfection. The history of wushu began over two thousand years ago. By the way, in China, wushu is not just a kind of martial art, as it is known all over the world, but a system of human education. More than 80% of the Chinese were brought up in wushu schools, where they taught to read, write, and also the art of communicating with people. Wushu exercises performed slowly resemble a mystical dance, but the forms (sets of exercises) at a fast pace are a great opportunity to demonstrate the potential of your body. At the same time, any form of wushu has a combat use.
Wushu can be practiced by everyone without exception: people different ages, gender, body type and level physical training- the same exercises individually affect everyone, being both methods of internal self-training and physical training.
Wushu penetrated into other countries, first of all, through the communities of Chinese emigrants, who introduced the term-synonym for this martial art - kungfu. Over time, its sound was transformed into kung fu. Kungfu is also called wushu high class. For a long time kungfu meant not so much the Chinese martial arts proper, but all those methods of combat and healing that did not fall under a clear karate system (for example, the combat system created by Bruce Lee is also considered kungfu). At one time, there were legends about "death touches and energy strikes", which were supposedly taught by the "great and terrible" kung fu. However, today it is already well known that teaching the art of killing is not an end in itself, either in Wushu in general or in Kung Fu in particular. It is rather a philosophical system that puts the task of self-improvement before a person.
Peculiarities
Wushu (taolu) gymnastics gives a uniform load on all muscle groups, thereby forming perfect figure. Chinese doctors have found that slow wushu exercises burn calories no worse than aerobics. So wushu is very useful for girls and women.
Kung Fu does not develop aggressiveness, but rather teaches you to move away from conflict situations and only as a last resort to use combat skills.
When to start
Health-improving groups - from 5 years old (classes for 45 minutes), groups initial training- from 6-7 years old (1 hour each), training (with fights) - from 12 years old (1.5 hours each). Will benefit both boys and girls.

Jujutsu

Soft Art is one of the oldest Japanese martial arts. Subsequently, it was improved in Europe. Jiu-jitsu, in essence, is the progenitor of many types of wrestling - judo, aikido, karate, sambo. According to legend, one of the founders of jiu-jitsu, Okayama Shirobei, noticed how thin branch the tree bowed under the weight of the snow, threw it off and straightened up, while the thick one broke off. Then he exclaimed: "Gentleness conquers evil!" The basis of jiu-jitsu is throwing technique and force on the joints. An important component is the striking technique, which serves to stop the opponent, unbalance him, and then perform a painful or suffocating technique. But this should not scare parents, since only non-contact (with light contact) jiu-jitsu is widespread in Ukraine.
Peculiarities
At first glance, jiu-jitsu resembles judo - the same stance, throws and sweeps. But if in judo, to achieve victory, it is enough to beautifully throw the opponent with his back on the tatami, then in jiu-jitsu, a non-contact (light-contact) blow, a throw of the opponent, and then a painful or suffocating hold are also required.
When to start

Karate

Literally translated, it means "empty hand". Karate is a Japanese unarmed martial art based on movements that make the best use of the laws of mechanics. Karate is not only a very effective, but also a dangerous fight, because everyone knows the ability of karate fighters to break bricks with their hands, feet and even their heads! But this is contact karate. But the non-contact method, which is recommended for children, develops an excellent reaction, dexterity and endurance.
Peculiarities
One of the most popular martial arts among girls and women. However, most of them do karate not for participation in competitions, but for self-defense training, and also instead of shaping and aerobics. Most fights among women (as, indeed, among men) are held by the non-contact method.
When to start
Health-improving groups - from 5-6 years old, initial training groups - from 7-8 years old, educational and training groups - from 10 years old.

With the non-contact method, all techniques are studied, but strikes are not carried out. In competitions, the beauty of movements is primarily evaluated, and not victory over an opponent (as in contact). In non-contact (light-contact) jiu-jitsu and karate, all blows must be calculated with the utmost precision - up to a few millimeters, in order to give the impression of contact. This is very good for developing mindfulness, ability to concentrate, speed and accuracy of reaction.

Taekwondo

"Breaking the way of arms and legs" is a Korean version of oriental martial arts. The generally recognized founder of taekwondo is General Choi Hong Hi. As a child, he was a frail and sickly child, which greatly worried his parents. Then, having mastered karate and su bak do, young Chon began to train using both techniques at the same time. As a result, the young man not only improved his health, but also created a martial art that is now known throughout the world.
Peculiarities
Close to Japanese karate, only there is no non-contact method in taekwondo. It is practiced as a purely sporting martial art. Taekwondo has a number of modifications. One of them is taekwondo olympic view sports.
When to start
From 6-7 years old. Preferable for boys as it is a tough martial art.

Aikido

The birthplace of this martial art is Japan. Aikido is purely a defense system. All techniques in it are somehow connected with circular trajectories. The movement of the aikidoist in a circle allows not only to avoid a hard collision, but also to completely accompany the movement of the attacker. In addition, all actions (in aikido called techniques) of an aikidoist must be elegant, beautiful, but at the same time real, that is, guaranteeing protection. A lot of attention has been paid to this from the very beginning. These principles are also true on a psychological level. A real master must "see" the mind of the enemy and prevent all his actions.
Peculiarities
It develops not only physical abilities, but also spiritual qualities, which is facilitated by the very atmosphere in the training room. During classes, constant concentration and unconditional fulfillment of the instructions of the mentor are necessary. Only under such conditions can injuries be avoided and good results achieved.
When to start
From 5-7 years old (for both boys and girls).

Judo

The name of this Japanese wrestling is translated as "soft way". Judo belongs to the group of unstressed martial arts of martial origin, the original purpose of which was to defeat the enemy, putting him in a helpless position. Judo is often referred to as the art of self-defence, as its techniques are based on the use of the opponent's movements. But the facts show that in a fight, judoists win more often than those who master other types of martial arts. That is, with the help of judo techniques, you can not only defend yourself, but also attack, using any movement of the enemy (even if it is not at all aggressive or provoking it).
Peculiarities
It is the oldest Olympic martial art for women. Judo is suitable for girls as it has fewer clamps various parts body (fraught with bruising and swelling). In addition, this is a "cleaner" sport - mostly training takes place in the stance, in judo they do not fight on the tatami below (as, for example, in sambo).
When to start
From 7-10 years old.

Sambo

Or self-defense without weapons - not martial arts, but still worth mentioning, since its closest "relative" is judo. Sambo was created in Russia, one of its authors is Anatoly Kharlampiev. Sambo wrestling is Russian by birth and international in its essence, as it combines thousands of years of experience of various peoples in the field of wrestling and self-defense.
Peculiarities
Combat sambo differs from sports sambo in that, in addition to self-defense techniques, it uses punches and kicks. But the difference, for example, between sambo and judo is that in the first one, painful holds on the legs are allowed, but suffocating ones are not allowed, and in the second, on the contrary.
When to start
From 7 years old.

Kickboxing

This sport was created on the basis of martial arts ("kick" - to kick, "boxing" - boxing): karate, taekwondo, Thai boxing, wushu and English boxing. According to the rules of classic kickboxing, the fight is fought with full contact, even for beginners. The most effective kicks, borrowed from martial arts, combined with boxing hand techniques, make kickboxing a balanced and versatile system. The specificity of fights with full contact requires the athlete to have special physical and psychological preparation. In addition to full-contact (full), there are also seven-contact (medium) and light-contact (light).
Peculiarities
In karate, taekwondo, wushu and other oriental areas, punches are minimized, and in kickboxing the boxing school is preserved to the maximum. At the same time, kicks give kickboxing an edge over classic boxing.
When to start
From 9-10 years old.

Need to know
If you have firmly decided to develop in your child agility, strength and intelligence, as well as the ability to stand up for yourself with the help of any type of martial arts or sambo, your child must undergo a medical examination. This can be done at the local clinic. If you want to know which sports are useful and which are harmful for certain diseases, and get detailed recommendations sports doctors, contact the capital's health centers (see the Useful Phones section) or regional sports dispensaries.

Strengthens health, promotes mental and intellectual development teaches discipline and self-control. These calculations are suitable for any kind of sports. In this article, we invite you to talk about the benefits of martial arts, what they teach, and which martial arts are the most popular in the world.

We will not sin against the truth if we say that martial arts are most useful for children. This is due to the fact that children, due to their natural curiosity and strong learning abilities, grasp everything literally on the fly, they do not need to be convinced and retrained for a long time. However, for adults, the benefits of martial arts are undeniable. When practicing martial arts, a person:

  • become healthier physically and spiritually,
  • develops coordination of movements and speed of reaction,
  • becomes more self-confident and able to stand up for himself,
  • learns to be disciplined and purposeful,
  • learns to respect their teachers, associates and opponents.

You can talk endlessly about the benefits of martial arts. But what to choose? What are the types of martial arts in the world? In total there are 3 classes of martial arts:

  1. wrestling (classical (Greco-Roman) wrestling, freestyle wrestling) - there is practically no need for striking in them. The purpose of the wrestling is to lay the opponent on the shoulder blades with the help of technical techniques, while in classical wrestling one has his own arsenal of techniques, in freestyle wrestling - his own, which is slightly wider than in classical wrestling (grabs of the opponent’s legs, sweeps are allowed),
  2. percussion (boxing, kickboxing) - contact types of martial arts, involving striking the enemy with both hands (boxing) and kicks (kickboxing),
  3. martial arts - they are singled out in a separate class, since this is not just a sport, it is a whole philosophy. Oriental martial arts develop the physical qualities of students, and also pay attention to their spiritual education.

Chinese martial arts

All Chinese martial arts have been developed over the past 2000 years. There are a lot of them, like the Chinese. There are different kinds of classifications of Chinese martial arts. We will briefly describe each of them.

According to the geographical classification, there are:

  • northern martial arts, focusing on the development of acrobatics and human leg strength. These include the styles of baguazhang - "Palm of the Eight Trigrams", bajiquan, cha, Huajao, Eagle's Claw, Northern Praying Mantis and taijiquan - "Fist of the Great Limit",
  • southern martial arts, characterized by the use of low fighting stances and short, powerful movements, mostly performed with the hands. The southern styles include the families of Southern China: Choi Gar, Hang Ga, Lau Gar, Li and Mok Gar, the White Crane, Five Ancestors, Southern Praying Mantis and Dragon styles.

Historically, there are 18 provinces in China, and each of them has its own styles of martial arts. The most famous are Shanxi, Hebei and Henan.

By the nature of manifestations, martial arts are:

  • physical (external) - wushu, teaching how to avoid conflict situations, sanda
  • spiritual (internal or religious) - Shaolin martial arts (Shaolinquan, Hong Gar, Wing Chun, dragon and white crane style), Taijiquan, Baguazhang, Tan Tui, Xingyiquan and Kyoshikan.

Naturally, it is impossible to unambiguously define the best martial art of China, there are many differences in them, and + - each student will find something for himself.

Russian martial arts

It is believed that the concept of "Russian martial arts" in the traditional sense of the word does not exist. Obviously, this happened because the Russian martial art resembles a dance. Any national dance is a fighting form of plastic movement. If we add an accurate understanding of the work of the muscles and the bone apparatus to the plasticity, then a perfect combat form of movement will come out. The Russian school of martial arts has identified the following types of martial arts in the list of martial arts:

  • Cossack saved, which has much in common with martial arts. According to this teaching, a person can transfer his consciousness to the naviya (astral body), klubje (mental body), kolobya (budhic body) and divya (devakonic body). By transferring energy into one of the bodies, a person can evade an attack and inflict crushing blows on the enemy,
  • fistfighting is a competitive male practice of fighting at an average distance, allowing punches and kicks, throws, grips, as well as various movements,
  • hand-to-hand combat - a universal system for teaching defense and attack techniques,
  • sambo is a young martial art and self-defense system developed in the Soviet Union, based on Japanese judo and traditional folk wrestling,

Naturally, in each of the listed types of martial arts there are world-famous martial arts masters: Jet Li in wushu, Fedor Emelianenko in mixed martial arts, Muhammad Ali in boxing, Alexander Karelin in classical wrestling, Masutatsu Oyama in karate, Wally Jay. in jiu-jitsu and many others. All of them serve as role models and proof that nothing is impossible in the world.
