Do-it-yourself folding door installation. How to install an accordion door with your own hands

Doors with accordion opening are often used to fill non-standard openings, because the canvas itself can be considered non-standard. The peculiarity of such a door is that it does not consist of solid material, but of thin vertical panels, which allow you to fold in a certain way. This design allows you to save enough space without requiring additional fastening to the walls. Of the minuses of the accordion door, its fragility is considered. In order for the panels to slide apart correctly, they must be thin, which means that the canvas is easily damaged.

Accordion doors: instructions and videos

For many years, sliding and folding doors have been installed in small rooms. Why? Because they allow you to save scarce free space. With interior doors of this type, you can also arrange furniture in the room more efficiently. Today, these doors still have not lost their relevance, and even vice versa - the demand for them has increased even more.

There are many hardware stores where you can buy these products, but the largest selection is in Leroy-Merlin. Everyone knows these shops. The range includes not only functional, but also aesthetically attractive models. Such an accordion door can become a real highlight of the interior.

Benefits of accordion doors

So, such an interior door, due to its design and features, has several serious advantages.

The door occupies a minimum of usable area. This system consists of a set of doors and a folding mechanism - it is designed in such a way as to occupy as little free space as possible, both in the open and in the closed state.

Also, due to the design, these doors do not require much effort to open or close. In mechanisms, there is only minimal friction between parts and surfaces - this provides folding doors with extraordinary ease of operation. This also includes their quietness.

Most models of folding doors are equipped with a system that prevents the leaf from moving independently. The design provides for special latches that prevent the door from moving spontaneously. Also, with the help of them, the canvas can be fixed in the desired position.

Another advantage of these door designs is their affordable prices. Among the huge number of models presented, you can always choose a door for every taste.

Cons of folding doors

Such structures have a lot of advantages, but you should not forget about the disadvantages. The choice of door should be made only after their analysis.

An accordion door, unlike others, has practically no sound insulation. These canvases are not suitable for installation in bedrooms and children's rooms. The thermal insulation characteristics of these doors are also at a low level.

The design, for all its advantages, does not have sufficient rigidity. These doors are not designed for intensive use and can only be used at home.

It is also not the best choice for toilets and bathrooms. The materials from which folding doors are made are subject to moisture and temperature changes.

Device and materials

A folding door is several movable rails that are connected to each other. The door works on the principle of blinds. When the owner wants to open the door leaf, the slats or sashes are folded and moved to the edge of the opening. Door segments move along a special guide - depending on the size of the door system, it can be located at the top or bottom.

The leafs of these doors can be made from a huge number of materials. Thus, plastic, wood, metal, MDF, as well as bamboo, glass, textile materials and leather are widely used in production.

In the catalogs you can find really unique solutions - there are both strict, modern types of doors, as well as products in a classic style.

Harmonica and book

These are two separate types of folding mechanisms. They are very similar to each other. However, a book, unlike an accordion, has only two doors.

Also, the harmonica is lighter and takes up less space. The book is a transitional option between classic swing doors and folding. It is bulkier and heavier.

You should pay attention to the completeness of the door - there should be seals in the grooves. This provides an additional level of sound insulation.

Often, folding doors in a hypermarket are presented on the trading floor assembled, but you can also buy them disassembled - you must definitely examine the finished structure for gaps between the wings. There shouldn't be any big gaps. You should also test the door for smooth operation.

Accordion door in the interior

An accordion door is not only a solution to save space, but also a stylish element of decor. Manufacturers make lamellas in a wide variety of colors and textures.

Lightweight and compact design, as well as the absence of the need for a door frame - this is the ability to use the "accordion" not only as a door, but as a partition. With the help of such a solution, you can effectively zone the space - this is very important in studio apartments. On sale there are models that allow you to install the door to the entire height of the room.

Interior accordion doors, price

Small kitchens, small bedrooms, small corridors. Not everyone is lucky with living space and more than half of the owners of apartments built in the Soviet period have to put up with the fact that the area of the apartment absolutely does not meet the needs of the family. Today we will consider one important issue that few people really think about - how much space doors steal.

How much does an accordion door cost

When buying a small apartment, we do not even think about the fact that out of the 40 square meters we pay for, much less is actually used. The first usable volume stealer is an ordinary swing door. On the side where it opens, the space is actually not used, and this is at least one and a half square meters of area for each door. So are we going to endure it?

Of course not. To save space, interior accordion doors have long been used. Their price can even be lower than that of some swing doors and certainly lower than any model of sliding doors, which also save space great, but are much more difficult to install and more expensive upon purchase.

For example, plastic interior accordion doors with a magnetic latch and a complete installation kit will cost 2.8-3.2 thousand, depending on the manufacturer. The same wooden doors made of solid pine, oak or alder can be bought at a price of 6.5 thousand rubles.

Accordion door design

Accordion doors in design resemble book doors, but with the difference that the book only folds in half, and an accordion can have many more sections and, as a result, it saves space even more, in no way inferior functionally to standard or sliding doors. By design, such doors resemble blinds - they consist of many lamella sections with a width of 10 cm or more.

The sections are hinged together, and for smooth operation, a bar is installed in the upper or lower part of the door, along which the rollers move. Thus, the lamellas are folded into an accordion, and it, in turn, occupies a space of no more than 100 mm of area.

Advantages and disadvantages of interior folding doors

From a practical point of view, accordion doors have more than one advantage over a swing door:

  • saving free space;
  • very easy installation;
  • interesting appearance;
  • affordable price;
  • variety of materials.

Installation of such a door, indeed, takes no more time than installing a conventional window cornice.

In fairness, one cannot fail to note some of the design flaws of the accordion door:

  1. The presence of many moving parts makes the design potentially unreliable.
  2. Accordion doors cannot prevent the spread of odors.
  3. Lack of soundproofing.
  4. Due to the design features, such doors often jam, but as a rule, this happens when installation errors occur.

Due to the uniqueness of the design of such a door, it is not necessary to talk about a special variety of options for execution, although there are both glazed versions of lamellas and deaf ones on sale.

Stronger and more reliable, of course, are doors with blind lamellas, regardless of what they are made of - wood or plastic. Cloths with glazing, quite predictably, may not have such reliability and wear resistance, a shorter service life.

Design and selection of accordion doors

But externally glazed accordion doors look very impressive, light and almost weightless. Often designers use the stained glass technique for decorating glass inserts, so you can choose a design for any interior design, for any stylistic direction.

When choosing accordion doors, you should pay attention to the number of sections. In principle, the fewer sections, the more reliable the whole structure, but the more the door will take up space when folded. As for the materials, there are only two of them - wood and plastic.

Plastic doors are not very durable, because, like the lamellas themselves, their entire mechanism is made of plastic. But their price is three times lower. Often plastic structures are installed in the bathroom, in the bath, pool, sometimes they can be seen as a shower curtain or shower.

Wooden accordion doors are more durable, since their entire mechanism is made of metal and alloys. Depending on the width of the section, they can be designed in completely different ways, including all possible types of glazing that are used in swing interior doors.

Even judging by the photo, we can say that accordion doors made of wood look much more attractive than plastic ones, but their weak point is the poor resistance of wood to moisture. If you choose the right model for the existing interior, accordion doors will perform in the best way, and with good care and proper installation, they will last a long time and without breakdowns.

Plastic doors accordion

Such doors are indispensable in apartments with a shortage of free space. Interior sliding doors "accordion", the installation of which does not require changing the doorway, practically does not take up space when closed, and the folding mechanism turns them into a compact design. This makes it possible to install furniture where hinged doors do not allow it.

  • You can also buy interior doors "accordion" in large apartments. In such premises, they will simultaneously perform two functions: the usual one, for dividing rooms, and the reverse one - they will help to combine the space of neighboring rooms, to make it one.
  • An accordion interior door is also suitable for rooms with limited space; you can buy it for kitchens, bathrooms, pantries, etc.

Sliding interior doors are safe, they are light and, for example, do not pinch a child's hand, do not sag and can be installed in openings of any size.

Design advantages:

  • security;
  • space saving;
  • originality;
  • ease of use;
  • reliability.

How to install an accordion wooden door in the kitchen yourself

In the process of building or repairing premises, one cannot do without arranging doorways. After all, not only do interior structures provide a functional division of rooms, in addition, they can be used to solve aesthetic problems, providing an impeccable appearance and ergonomics of any room.

If we take into account that recently minimalism has remained the predominant trend in the design of residential premises, then it becomes clear that many owners of their own homes are striving to use alternative door systems, which include accordion doors.

That is why in today's informational article we would like to describe in detail the method of how to install an accordion door with your own hands.

Advantages and disadvantages of accordion doors

Interior doors are expensive building products, and therefore it is advisable to carry out the process of their installation only after a scrupulous analysis of the accessory you like. Accordion doors are no exception, and therefore, before the direct purchase process, it is advisable to clarify all the advantages and disadvantages of these structural elements.

Undoubtedly, the most important advantage of an accordion door is the saving of free space in the premises. Indeed, unlike traditional hinged doors, such sliding systems simply fold in the process of operation, in fact, always remaining in the immediate area of the opening.

This advantage allows you to install any furniture attributes near the doors, without worrying that they will interfere with the operation of folding systems. In addition, the doors of the accordion will perfectly cope with the assigned tasks in the premises limited in area (kitchens, bathrooms, corridors). Also, due to the design of such doors, the possibility of damage (stains, scratches, chips) of the wall modules adjacent to the opening is excluded.

The second most important advantage of accordion doors is their ease of installation and ease of maintenance, because such doors do not sag, they are not adversely affected by external factors (for example, excessive humidity), and besides, with the help of such sliding systems, you can equip almost any size opening

Plus, "accordions" are distinguished by safety (due to light weight and the absence of possible pinching points), environmental friendliness, functionality and novelty.

If we consider the shortcomings of the presented doors, then we should highlight their low mechanical strength and low heat and sound insulation.

Preparing to install the door

The main structural difference of the accordion door is that the horizontal part of the doorway acts as the base surface to which the entire structure is fixed (with the help of a guide profile), which is why the correct preparation of the specified building element should be approached very scrupulously.

Indeed, in addition to the fact that the opening must have a clear geometric shape (both vertically and horizontally), it is very important to achieve the possibility of fixing all kinds of fasteners to its planes. Why, in the process of correcting the opening, it is advisable to use cement-based mortars, or to construct the frame of the opening from sheet materials (drywall, MDF, plastic), and to fix the fittings, use elongated fastening materials (screws, anchors, etc.).

Accordion door installation method

Installation of an accordion sliding door should begin with the procurement of components, because it is very important to prepare all the necessary accessories and building components in advance.

Well, in addition, you should stock up on platbands, extensions and fastening components.

The next step in the installation work is the direct assembly of the door leaf (in the event that the accordion door is sold disassembled). When performing this operation, it is advisable to adhere to the following recommendations:

  • Perform all work on a clean, flat surface (so as not to damage the door material);
  • It is mandatory to use the attached instructions with filling in the required fields (allows you to accurately determine all the required dimensions);
  • If it is necessary to cut off excess guide profiles (top, side), use a hacksaw and a miter box to ensure evenness of the cut.

In addition, during the assembly of an accordion door, it may be necessary to cut the panels along the length (depending on the height of the opening), for which it is also advisable to use a hacksaw and a miter box, cutting off each of the door panels in turn to a given size. Well, at the end of the work, it is advisable to protect the cut points with special plugs and decorative stickers. In other words, installation operations should begin only after complete preparation (cutting, assembling) of all the required components.

Well, after connecting all the accordion plates into a single canvas, on one side of it (for example, on the right), the side locking panel should be fixed, and on the opposite side, the side locking panel should be installed. Moreover, for fastening the listed panels to the canvas, it is advisable to use special strips with stoppers.

The final stage of the assembly of the accordion door is the installation of runners, due to which the entire door will be held in the cavity of the guide profile. It is necessary to fasten them directly to the elements of the door leaf, using self-tapping screws, starting the installation from the lock side, mounting the elements through one plate.

Accordion door installation technology

In most cases, it is not associated with significant difficulties and is implemented in the following sequence:

First, in the place of the intended installation of the profiles (top and side), recesses should be prepared (with a diameter of 6-8 mm and a depth of at least 40 mm), into which plastic dowels should subsequently be sunk.

Moreover, the pitch of the mounting points should be selected in such a way that in the area of \u200b\u200binstallation of the side panels it is at least 400 mm, and on the horizontal profile it is 100 - 150 mm.

After that, the canvas runners are inserted into the grooves of the upper guide rail (it is recommended to lubricate the rollers with technical petroleum jelly beforehand) and the latter simply snaps onto the kleimers in a horizontal position.

Then, using a similar technology, side guides (fixing and locking) should be installed and the outer door leaf should be inserted into the fixing bar, ensuring that adjacent elements are snapped into place with the help of a docking rail.

Well, at the end of the work, it is necessary to install a magnetic lock and additional elements, and then check the performance of the entire structure in various modes.

In order for folding doors to fully perform the required functions, it is advisable to adhere to the following recommendations during installation operations:

  1. Perform work only at positive air temperature;
  2. For high-quality work of the door, the installation of elements (guide profiles) should be carried out using a building level or plumb line;
  3. If there are no snap-on clamps in the product kit, the guide rails can be fixed directly through the body of the material, for which perforation must first be made in the profiles with a given step. And after that, simply screw them to the base of the opening. Moreover, if we talk about the method of installing the upper horizontal profile, then it is advisable to fix it on one screw in order to freely insert the rollers of the panels into the grooves (you can turn the upper guide element around the screw axis), and then carry out the final fixation of the aluminum rail over the entire plane.

Considering all of the above, the question of how to install an accordion door on your own will not seem daunting. A convenient sliding system will be able to please the household for decades.

The desire to make your home cozy, comfortable, functional dictates the rules for choosing interior items. Interior doors serve as a means of dividing zones, protection, sound insulation.

Not always the standard swing design easily fits into the dimensions of the house. Need to save space. Sliding doors do the job. One of the varieties is the accordion door.

Until recently, the accordion was not considered an exquisite decoration. But technologies are developing, which made it possible to make the accordion door a modern element in the interior. Is it possible to install an accordion door with your own hands? Will there be any difficulties or is it easy to do everything yourself. Let's talk about this by considering the design features of the accordion canvases.

Knowing some subtleties, you can install an accordion door with your own hands.

According to the layout principle, an accordion door is similar to its accordion object of the same name. The canvases, one after another, smoothly fold or straighten like accordion furs. They help save room space, because when opened, they reduce their size by two to three times, remaining in the opening. There is, of course, an inconvenience if the doorway is narrow, and even the canvases reduce its width. But in general, this is offset by the ability to reduce the presence of the facade in a small room.

The accordion door looks aesthetically pleasing in any design.

Today, the accordion door has become relevant not only as an economical option, but also as an individual designer decor. The accordion layout system is used for showers, protecting the premises from water; for cabinets that are installed in narrow rooms; for dressing rooms, hiding them behind exquisite decor. Accordion doors can divide the space like interior partitions, folding along the entire length and completely opening the room, if necessary.

Factories produce different models of accordion doors according to the internal filling of the canvases. It can be MDF panels, plastic, fabric, mirror, glass, less often wood. Solid wood is a heavy material, even perfectly dried. Accessories may simply not withstand heavy canvases. If the array is used in the production of an accordion, then with the strengthening of the system of running the canvas along the rails or using veneer on a thin basis.

The design feature of the accordion doors is not diverse. These are rectangular canvases of different sizes. Width starts from 100 mm and more. The smallest opening that will allow you to install an accordion door should not be already 600 mm. The rest is a matter of fantasy and the width of the opening.

It is necessary to choose high-quality designs that have a reliable basis. The frame of the panels must be rigid so that it does not fall apart with an accidental effort.

Accessories for the accordion door can be purchased at any specialized department.

Fittings are always sold as a set, it can vary only in the number of paintings from the width of the opening. The accordion package always provides for an upper guide, a system of rollers. With massive structures, the lower rail is also used so that the product does not sag under heavy load. The lower part is usually recessed into the floor, does not interfere with the movement of users.

Installation does not require a door frame, as when installing swing interior doors. The jamb can be ennobled in advance with decorative coatings or covered with extensions purchased independently. The rest of the installation should not be a problem. Therefore, you can install an accordion door with your own hands, without overpaying the craftsmen. We will help you master the installation of the structure, if you decide to do everything yourself.

The sequence of installation of the accordion door

As with any installation, at the first stage they prepare the opening and buy an accordion door of the right size. If, with facades installed in a box, the size may have errors (mounting foam will close everything), when installing a sliding accordion, we determine the dimensions after preparing the opening.

Do-it-yourself door installation.

Minimum gaps are needed only at the top and bottom of the canvas for ease of movement of the accordion along the rails.

  1. After dismantling the old kit, having prepared the opening, we take measurements in height and width. The store sells an accordion door with a set of the number of canvases for which width the future design is designed. But in place you will have to adjust the height of the panels, the length of the guide. Sometimes an accordion covers a space more than a meter wide. Then a double-leaf accordion can be chosen, i.e. the doors will open to the right / left at the same time so that the structure is not heavy.
  2. Decide before you start installing the accordion door with your own hands, in which direction you need to open the facade.
  3. Mounting options for top fittings.
  4. You can install the guide on self-tapping screws by pre-drilling holes in the right places, installing dowels under the fasteners.
  5. We measure the width of the opening, cut off the desired length if the profile is larger than necessary.
  6. We install the bar to the upper surface of the opening. If there are no holes, make them yourself using a drill and a drill of the desired diameter.
  7. We install vertical profiles in the same way, sawing off the height if necessary.
  8. The second method of installing horizontal and vertical profiles with your own hands is distinguished by the presence of clip-locks that allow you to snap the bar with a mallet.
  9. Drill holes in the wall, install the lower part of the clip. Fasten the other half of the lock to the profile.
  10. Attach the clips by applying slight pressure to the bar or by tapping with a mallet.
  11. Similarly, we set the vertical profile on both sides.

We collect the accordion door

Perhaps, assembling the panels into a single canvas is the most painstaking part of installing an accordion door with your own hands. The instructions supplied with the product must be followed exactly.

Scheme of installation of an accordion door.

A step-by-step illustration will allow you to correctly assemble the panels with your own hands.

  1. We take measurements of the height of the opening.
  2. We measure the desired length on the canvas, making allowances for the depth of the profile, leaving a gap from the floor.
  3. Cut off the excess, repeating the procedure with all panels.
  4. We proceed to the connection of the panels to each other. For this, special hinges are provided that allow the door to fold and open again. Depending on the weight of the panels and the permissible load, two or three connecting loops can be installed on the surfaces.
  5. Lay the canvases in the desired sequence on the floor. They should be tightly adjacent to each other so that no gaps appear in the hinged position.
  6. Check the compatibility of the panels on the top and bottom lines.
  7. We drill holes for fastening with a loop. Sometimes the hinge replaces the end and vertical profile, allowing you to combine the elements of the accordion door with your own hands in a matter of minutes. It is only necessary to follow the recommendations in the printed instructions.
  8. The accordion door set includes a metal mount, into which all the canvases are inserted one after another, forming a single plane.
  9. At the end of the profile under the facade, a roller or several rollers are placed, allowing the entire canvas to move without problems.
  10. When assembling an accordion into a single structure, pay attention to the location of the extreme panels. A lock and a handle will be fixed in the lock part. The end panel will go into a vertical profile installed on the wall of the opening.
  11. Having assembled a single canvas, we proceed to the stage of hanging the accordion on the guide profile at the top of the opening.
  12. Sometimes it is difficult to get the rollers and stoppers into the guide due to the close location of the jamb. Then the option of installing the guide profile only on the middle self-tapping screw is provided, so that it becomes possible to move it to the side to insert fasteners into the groove.
  13. We return the profile to its place.
  14. We check the operation of the accordion door. The movement should be easy, silent.

Installing the handle and lock

At the final stage, it is necessary to fix the handle, the lock that comes with the kit or purchased independently. Usually the lock is magnetic, but some consumers want the door to lock securely.

  1. On the extreme canvas of the accordion from the side of the lock, the necessary technological holes are made for the lock and the handle. We pre-make markings for planting door fittings. The handle should be slightly offset from the edge of the accordion door, because the panel goes into the vertical profile, tightly adjoining the wall. A close-fitting handle may prevent the accordion door from sealing tightly.
  2. Once again we check the operation of the smooth running of the canvas, the absence of cracks, distortions.
  3. When choosing an accordion interior door with a system of upper and lower profiles in the configuration, it is necessary to fix the lower rail before installing the leaf.
  4. It is usually recessed into the floor in the area of the nut. The length corresponds to the width of the opening.
  5. When installing, the lower set of wheels is first started, and then connected to the upper rail.
  6. Floors must be perfectly level. If there are irregularities, slopes, it is necessary to level the surface in order to avoid failure of the accordion door.
  7. After completing the installation of the accordion door with your own hands, take care of the decorative trim around the interior portal on both sides.

If this is not necessary, the do-it-yourself installation process can be considered complete.

If your choice fell in favor of an accordion door, you need to buy it correctly so that do-it-yourself installation is a pleasure, not a problem.

  • Buy an accordion door in accordance with the interior, taking into account the technical features of the rooms.
  • You should not take an accordion door if the opening is only 500 mm. In the open position, difficulties will arise when moving from one space to another. You will always come across a stacked door.
  • Correctly calculate the number of paintings required for installation in the interior opening.
  • Do not try to save money when buying an accordion door, because a cheap door will not last long. In the production, cheap plastic and weak fittings are used, which cannot withstand heavy daily loads.
  • Buy a few extra panels in case of unexpected damage to the canvas elements. It will not be difficult to replace the damaged one with your own hands if the panel is available. Production is constantly updated, old models are discontinued. An additional element will avoid the lack of the necessary part from the seller.

After reviewing the detailed guide, installing an accordion door with your own hands should not be difficult. To consolidate the information, we recommend watching the video story with detailed recommendations.

Unlike standard doors, an accordion door practically does not take up space outside the opening. An accordion door is an ideal choice for owners of small apartments. This design can be used as an interior design without violating fire safety rules: the canvas will not close the corridor or adjacent doorways, and interfere with evacuation. Besides. an accordion door is often chosen to finish the opening leading to a dressing room or utility room. How to independently assemble and install a folding structure - read below.

Folding Model: Accordion Door Room Style

An accordion door is a design consisting of several movable leaves that can be easily moved, an open passage, and are placed on one side of the doorway. The accordion door has a wide scope due to the variety of models. A modern accordion door can be made from affordable plastic and textiles, as well as more expensive materials - wood and glass, have doors of various colors and levels of transparency, and be decorated with drawings, stones, and inserts.

An accordion door is more often used in interior spaces and to separate areas in a room

The choice of an accordion door determines the style of the room, the color scheme of the interior, the purpose of the door.

So, if an accordion door is used to hide a wardrobe in the bedroom, then the doors should be opaque. The design of the door can be different: wooden doors are suitable for bedrooms in rustic styles, in modern interiors you can put a door with matte opaque doors, install a textile accordion in monochrome colors or a mirror accordion. Often, for wardrobe doors, a design is chosen that imitates display cabinets with opaque glass.

An accordion door can consist of two or more leaves.

At the same time, the sashes of each model may differ in size, color, design. The number and design of the doors depends on the purpose and design of the room. So, in the living rooms you can place accordion doors with four stained glass doors. For terraces and verandas of private houses, wide tempered glass doors on a metal frame are suitable, for bathrooms and utility rooms - private, narrow, opaque doors.

How to assemble an accordion door

Regardless of which accordion door you have chosen: with two or more wings, before installation, the structure will need to be assembled. In order to assemble the door with your own hands, you need to know the structure of the structure. So, a folding door, most often, consists of an upper guide (rails), roller runners and fasteners on which the wings are suspended. The door kit may additionally include platbands. But, most often, they will have to be purchased separately.

Accordion door allows you to cover large openings

The accordion door is assembled as follows:

  1. A narrow panel connects to the left panel.
  2. With the help of special, connecting rails, a wide sash is attached to a narrow panel. Intermediate rails are installed by alternating the wide and narrow sides.
  3. We string all the sashes in this way.
  4. We fasten the resulting structure with the included covers and self-tapping screws, placing them under the connecting loops.
  5. We put rollers on the sashes.

For some manufacturers, accordion door elements can be assembled without the use of intermediate rails directly, using grooves. Models made from MDF are often assembled using a special axis that is pulled through the sashes, connecting them.

Compact accordion door: do-it-yourself installation

Before starting work on the installation of a folding door, it is necessary to check the availability of all components of the kit, their quality (elements may have a factory defect or damage associated with improper transportation). You can proceed with the installation of the door only after you have made sure that the necessary components are available. In addition, you will need to prepare the following tool: a Phillips screwdriver, a screwdriver, a hacksaw, a level, a ruler, a tape measure, a mounting gun and foam.

Properly installed doors have small gaps and easy movement

Installation of folding interior doors is carried out as follows:

  1. First, all elements are adjusted to the size of the opening: guides in width, sashes in height. After, according to the instructions, the door leaf is assembled.
  2. Along the perimeter of the opening, locks are placed at the same distance: four on the right and on the left side of the opening.
  3. Next, the upper guide is installed: first, special fasteners - clips - are mounted to the opening.
  4. The pre-assembled door leaf is inserted into the guide.
  5. The guide is attached to the upper clip elements and snaps into place.
  6. The extreme loop on one side is inserted into the locks and fixed by gentle pressing.
  7. On the opposite side, a side bar is installed.

In order for the installation to go quickly and efficiently, when installing and assembling an accordion door, it is necessary to follow some recommendations of professional workers. So, for example, before installation, it is necessary to prepare a doorway: dismantle the old door frame, expand and align the opening. Thus, it will be possible to allocate the maximum area for the installation of the door.

Accordion door fits perfectly into any interior

In addition, so that the assembly does not take a lot of effort, time and money, you should:

  1. Conduct measurements of the opening after its preparation. According to these measurements, you should buy a door. In addition, it is necessary to calculate the height of the wings so that after installation a gap of 7-10 mm remains under the door to ensure natural ventilation.
  2. If the length of the guide rail is greater than the width of the opening, then it should be cut with a hacksaw before installation.
  3. During installation, in order not to bend the guide, it is better to drill a hole first with a drill 2 mm smaller than the self-tapping screw itself, and only then carefully screw in the fasteners.
  4. If the sash moves from right to left, then the fixing latch should be installed on the right side. If it's the other way around, then go to the left.
  5. For fasteners, it is better to use self-tapping screws 25-30 mm.

All work should be carried out on a flat, clean surface so as not to inadvertently damage the material. In addition, most folding doors are supplied with step-by-step installation instructions, familiarization with which guarantees the highest quality and fastest installation.

Every year folding doors become more and more popular. They complete country houses and apartments, office and utility rooms. This is because folding structures have the following advantages:

  1. Possibility to save space. They can be folded at any time, so they practically do not occupy usable space.
  2. Simple mechanism. Accordion doors include panels, fasteners and guide profiles. You can collect them yourself. There is no need for the use of building materials and finishing work.
  3. Versatility. There are no restrictions on the number of panels. The only thing that should be guided by is ease of use. After all, too bulky structures are difficult to use.

Among the shortcomings that are inherent in the accordion door, there are:

  1. Low level of sound insulation.
  2. Short term use. This is due to the fact that the composition includes moving parts, which wear out due to frequent use.
  3. The need for frequent repairs. Folding mechanisms periodically jam. Most often this happens if too large dimensions of the accordion interior door are chosen.

To operate folding doors longer, it is necessary to carefully select the model.

The folding door system includes a set of lamellas, presented in the form of a leaf or with glass inserts, guide profiles and hinges. To simplify the process of moving, rollers are introduced into the composition, which are located on the outer doors. They move along the profiles at the moment of opening and folding the structure. The rollers are supplemented with bearings made of high-quality raw materials. Therefore, the opening and closing process is completely silent.

Varieties of folding doors

Folding interior doors are classified according to two parameters:

  • materials used for the manufacture;
  • registration.

For the manufacture of folding structures, wood, reinforced glass and plastic are used. Each option has its own characteristics and strengths.

Wood accordion door

The demand for accordion wooden doors is high, as the designs are distinguished by reliability and durability. All elements from are treated with impregnations and chemicals. The hinges included in the composition are made of alloys with a certain margin of safety. Do not provoke deformation of elements from wood and temperature fluctuations.

Before installing folding wood structures in the kitchen, you need to check the degree of their protection. If the main elements are processed with a low-quality composition, then under the influence of moisture they will begin to deform.

Plastic door accordion

The constant load on the plastic panels helps to reduce the lifespan. With moderate use, the service life of plastic accordion doors reaches 10-12 months. The main advantage of this design is low cost. Plastic folding doors can be used as a partition.

Glass accordion door

Folding glass is rarely used to make the base for an accordion door, since its integrity is easy to break. The cost of glass models is many times higher than the cost of analogues made of wood or plastic. To reduce the cost, manufacturers combine glass with other materials, which also contributes to the strengthening of the structure. Glass doors are decorated using special films, varnishes or sandblasting equipment.

Model selection features

Since the range of folding doors is huge, it is sometimes difficult to navigate. You can simplify the process if you follow the following rules when choosing a model:

Stages of installation of an accordion door

Before assembling the accordion door, you need to check the complete set. The following items must be available:

  • guide profile (their number depends on the selected door model).
  • fixture.
  • lamellas.
  • videos.
  • adjusting key.

Manufacturers do not include platbands in the kit, so they should be purchased immediately.

Before you buy an accordion door, you need to take measurements. This will make it possible to purchase a model with the required characteristics.

Installation of a folding interior door consists of several stages. It is important to follow their order.

  1. Preparation and fastening of the guide. If necessary, prepare additional holes for fasteners. The distance between the holes should be 25-30 cm.
  2. Panel installation. On the one hand, the guide profile is supplemented with a latch, on which the end of the panel and the roller are inserted. Then the guide is fixed.
  3. Door leaf assembly. To connect the structure together, holes are formed on the panels and fastening loops are installed in them. The lamellas are arranged in the order in which they will be installed. For simplicity, the first and last panels are marked. The distance between the panels should be 3-4 mm. Before installing the fasteners, the mechanism for the accordion door is checked again to prevent displacement.
  4. Canvas installation. The panels assembled in the form of an accordion are folded and placed in the grooves of the guide. Be sure to check and correct their position. This process is carried out using the adjusting key.

After installation, the operation of the roller mechanism for accordion doors is checked. If necessary, dismantle, correct errors and re-fix the door leaf.

During the installation of the door leaf, it is necessary to be guided not only by general recommendations. Each model is accompanied by instructions in which manufacturers describe in detail the process of assembly, fastening and installation.

Folding interior doors (popularly "accordion door") are installed most often in those rooms where every centimeter of free space counts. Folding interior doors do not swing open like ordinary doors, but fold inside the doorway according to the fan principle. In this article, we will tell you how an accordion door is installed, how an extension for interior doors is mounted, and how the doorway is expanded.

Installation technology of a folding interior door

After unpacking, before proceeding with the assembly and installation of a folding interior door, it is necessary to check the presence of all components and parts.

Their number depends on the kit itself and on what size it should turn out. Also be sure to check the quality of the parts. Often they have scratches and other damage that may have appeared during transportation. If the quality suits you, then you can safely proceed with the assembly and installation.

For example, we will consider a door whose assembled dimensions should be 83 by 204 cm. We will also consider all the problems that may arise during installation. So, first of all, you need to prepare the opening and ennoble it. The last we will do is by installing add-ons.

Given the size of the door and the thickness of the extensions, we can easily calculate the dimensions of the opening we need: 83 + 2 + 2 \u003d 87 cm, where 83 is the width of the accordion door, 2 is the thickness of 2 extensions for interior doors, and 2 cm distance between the extension and a wall on each side for foaming. After we figured out the dimensions, we proceed to the preparation of the opening. On the one hand, we need to remove all the remnants of the plaster,

if any remained after the dismantling of the old door, after which we measure 87 cm from the resulting edge of the opening,

necessary to install a folding interior door, and draw a line along the level along the entire height.

Next, you need to expand the doorway according to the resulting size. This can be done in various ways: how to cut off part of the wall with a grinder, or expand it with a perforator. On the example, the last method was chosen, in order to have as little dust as possible during work, since the apartment in which the installation took place was already residential. With this option, along the line that we drew, it is necessary to make through holes with a drill using a perforator

and beat the brick from these holes with a spatula.

The opening for refining is ready.

We proceed to the assembly of the structure from additional slats. Before installing the extension, you need to trim the uneven edges of each plank.

We need the top bar with a length of 85 cm.

The size of the side extensions for interior doors can be found as follows: measure the height of the opening (in our case it is 207 cm)

and subtract 2 cm: 1 cm for the thickness of the extension and 1 cm for foaming. After all the cuts, we assemble the structure itself. To do this, measure from each edge of the upper dobor 0.5 cm

and drill at this distance 2 holes with a diameter of 3 mm at an arbitrary distance from each other.

After that, we lean the side extensions to the top one so that the edge of the side one goes along the cut of the top one.

You should get a U-shaped design, ready for installation.

We try it on in the opening and if everything is done correctly, it fits easily.

After that, we make holes in the side slats.

First, they need to be drilled at the same distance from each other along the entire length and exactly in the middle in width.

In our case, the extensions are 15 cm, which means the middle is 7.5, the length is 205 cm: we retreat from the bottom 10 cm and divide into 5 parts, it turns out that the holes will be every 39 cm. The holes themselves can be different, it depends on what you use fasteners. For example, you can make a hole of 3 mm, sweat 8.5 mm and secure with a dowel-hedgehog and a wood screw

or just use a dowel-nail.

In the latter case, it is necessary to make a hole of 6 mm and sweat 10 mm.

When attaching an additional plank to the wall, one should not forget that everything must be done exclusively according to the level

and don't forget to check it even after you've already secured it to make sure nothing has shifted. When leveling, be sure to leave a distance for foaming between the extension and the wall. To do this, you can use wooden blocks as a gasket.

After we put the structure in the opening,

you can start frothing. Foaming occurs from the bottom up on both sides.

While the foam hardens, proceed to the assembly of the door.

First of all, we saw off the required length of the side guide profile and the horizontal rail, which, in principle, is the same thing, the only difference is in the use of the sides.

The length of our horizontal rail is 83 cm,

and the length of the guide profile together with the rail joined to it is 205 cm.

All this, of course, needs to be cut.

After that, we collect together the panels. The sequence is as follows: we attach a narrow panel to the finish panel,

followed by a hinged profile

and continues to alternate with wide panels,

which the launchpad already completes

with guide joint profile.

Now we need to tie it all together. For this purpose, we put a cap on the hinged profile and fasten it with a short screw from the kit to the door.

This procedure must be repeated with each such profile, both from the bottom and from the top edge of the resulting canvas.

After that, we proceed to the installation of the door in the opening.

First, we will prepare the horizontal rail. It needs to make 4 holes of 3 mm

and through them, leaning the rail against the intended attachment point, drill an additional bar.

After that, folding the door into an accordion, we put it on this rail

and, without removing it, we fasten it to the upper extension of the opening with the help of wood screws, 3 × 25 mm in size, into the prepared holes.

Let's move on to the guide profiles. They also need to be drilled in 4 places by 3 mm with equal pitch

and in the same way, having made holes in the extensions,

After that, we connect the canvas with the guide profile using the docking profile, simply snapping them together.

For a complete picture, you need to install handles.

They are installed in holes already prepared by the factory and fastened to each other through the panel using ties.

It is also screwed with long screws from the kit.

After that, it is necessary to close the door and put marks from the latch on the guide profile.

On them on the profile it will be necessary to fasten the striker for the latch

After the work done, the last thing left to do is cashing out. But before that, you still have to cut off the frozen foam.

The mark for cutting the casing must be placed along the edge of the additional plank,

leaning it against the attachment point. You can saw off both with a miter saw and with a hacksaw with a miter box.

and nail them to the additional slats. It is more convenient to first fasten the side trim,

and then top.

After we repeat this procedure on the reverse side, the installation of the accordion door, as well as the accompanying cladding of the opening, is completed.
