How to assemble a wardrobe on a balcony from a lining. Do-it-yourself open cabinet made of lining on the balcony is a very convenient and economical option! We provide the cabinet with durability

Option for a wardrobe on the balcony.

The relatively small spaces of our apartments stimulate the efficient use of every square centimeter of residential and non-residential area. A balcony, at times, replaces a city dweller with a garden, a workshop, and a place to rest. Combining all these functions allows a properly planned space of these 2-3m 2. Built-in wardrobes successfully cope with the task, and a wardrobe made of lining with its own hands turns an ordinary pantry into the main decoration of the balcony.

Where to begin

Often niches are provided on the balconies for arranging cabinets (example in the photo), but before proceeding with the installation of a modernized pantry, you should know:

  • Glazing of the balcony will preserve the attractiveness of the wood finish for a long time, protect against dampness and direct moisture;
  • Installation should begin with repairing the floor, if not, then necessarily the part where the bottom of the cabinet will be located;
  • Elimination of all cracks and cracks, as well as additional insulation of walls and floors, will protect against drafts and sudden changes in temperature conditions.

Such a simple introductory instruction helps to preserve the wood paneling so that it delights you with its natural beauty for many years.

Cabinet installation

What do you need

In order to install the cabinet on the balcony from the lining, you will need the following materials:

  • pine beams 40x40 mm are suitable for making the frame of the future "storage". Pay attention that the wood is dry and free of rot;
  • beams of lesser thickness will be needed to create a door frame (can be replaced with not wide boards);
  • metal corner - for connecting wooden elements;
  • both boards and chipboard sheets of appropriate thickness are suitable for shelves;
  • cabinet handles, hinges, latches, locks should be made of corrosion-resistant metal (so as not to spoil the appearance of the product);
  • to connect the lining strips to each other, it is better to use clamps, but self-tapping screws for wood and, are also suitable;
  • and, of course, the lining itself (for the cabinet and doors, you can take strips of different width, texture and color).

Important! A cabinet made of lining on the balcony, built into the finished niche, consists of two concrete walls, and long anchors will be required to attach the frame to them.

For convenience, I use the following tools:

  • mounting level, tape measure, pencil;
  • hammer, hacksaw, screwdriver;
  • puncher.

Calculation and selection of lining

But everyone has their own preferences here, as well as financial capabilities. It should be noted that the price of the lining depends on its class and quality.

Important! Class C for lining is the lowest and is not suitable both for insulating a balcony, and for making a cabinet or any other furniture.

In order to avoid unnecessary spending, both money and time (for additional trips to the hardware store), we offer an example of calculating all materials.

Let's say your cabinet has the following dimensions:

  • Lower frame: 2x0.5 + 2x1.5 = 4 m / r.;
  • Upper frame: 2x0.5 + 2X1.5 = 4 m / r.;
  • Vertical racks: 4x1.8 = 7.2 m / r.

Optimally, you need 8 pieces of two-meter pine beams: 4 for the uprights, and 2 each for the upper and lower frames.

Based on the size of the selected lining, as well as the design of the cabinet, the required number of panels is purchased (calculate in advance the area of all surfaces sheathed with lining).

Important! Fasten the laminated fiberboard sheet as the back wall of the cabinet. The water resistance and density of this material will serve as additional protection against moisture, ensuring the durability of the structure.

Before you start building a cabinet on the balcony from the lining, watch this training video, and then proceed to fixing the frame on the walls of the balcony.

The first thing to do is to assemble the back and front frames of the cabinet, connecting the corresponding beams with metal corners. On the floor (the bottom of the cabinet), we recommend making a flooring of OSB sheet, chipboard or moisture-resistant plywood.

Attention! The photo shows that a metal corner is not used to connect the timber. The connection is made with wood screws 60-75 mm long.

  • As mentioned above, for the back wall it is better to use a sheet of laminated chipboard, which is pre-attached with a construction stapler or self-tapping screws to the rear frame;
  • We fix the entire structure with anchors on the end wall of the balcony, in accordance with the markings made earlier (for this we use the mounting level);
  • Bars 0.5 mm are attached to the frame and fixed with anchors;
  • First we attach the front frame to the ends of the beams, then (to give rigidity) we attach it with anchors to the floor, ceiling and walls;
  • The rails inside the cabinet also serve as the base for the shelves.

The inside of the cabinet is ready. Now let's move on to finishing the entire structure with clapboard.

Working with clapboard

The appearance of the entire balcony largely depends on how to make a door from a lining to a cabinet.

Therefore, we will consider in stages the entire sheathing process:

  • To create doors, we mount a frame of appropriate dimensions from boards or thin beams. Doors should be both light and strong at the same time, for which we recommend choosing a thinner lining;
  • To give rigidity to the door frame, a diagonal lintel is installed;
  • By placing the finished door frame on a flat horizontal surface using nails or decorative trims in door trim

    We put the finished door (or sash) on the hinges, previously fixed in the frame. After the cabinet for the balcony with your own hands from the lining is finally assembled, clean the entire room. Vacuum all wood surfaces and complete the final step by applying a protective varnish to the product.

    When buying a varnish, pay attention to the manufacturer's instructions:

    • for which premises the use of this tool is allowed;
    • varnish can be either colorless or contain coloring pigments;
    • observe the recommended temperature conditions during operation.

    Conclusion

    Do not be afraid to experiment with shapes - a cabinet made of lining on the balcony should not only be a storage for conservation, tools or seasonal items. It depends on its type and design solution whether the balcony will become a modern closet or a comfortable place for rest and work.

According to the old tradition, things are kept on the balcony and loggia that did not have a place in the apartment. And so that these small spaces do not turn into a landfill, a good storage system is needed. The most practical option is a built-in wardrobe on the balcony or loggia. Often all that is required is to make construction sites on which shelves will be held and doors to be installed. You can easily cope with such a task with your own hands, even with a minimum of skills.

Materials and constructions

The design of the built-in wardrobe can be divided into two parts: the frame and the doors. Sometimes, if a side stand is needed, there is also a sheathing.

What is the frame made of

Cabinet racks are most often made of timber. The section is approximately 40 * 40 mm or 50 * 50 mm. Not a bad option, but there may be high humidity on an unheated balcony. And wood is a material that changes size depending on humidity. There is one more point: timber is not cheap in all regions.

There is another option - to assemble a frame on a drywall profile. Any sheet material such as, etc. is perfectly attached to it. If you take galvanized, then no moisture problems are terrible.

What to make shelves from

The easiest way is to cut the shelves to size from sheet material. This is all the same chipboard - plain or laminated, thick plywood, sometimes you can use it, but shelves for weights should be desired on a wooden frame.

You can attach them to places prepared on the frame - installed bars or self-tapping screws. There is an option - with corners directly to the wall. But it is good if the walls can be drilled with self-tapping screws at once, otherwise it will take too long to plant each shelf on the dowels. Then it is easier to assemble the frame and attach it to it.

There is an even easier way to make shelves on a balcony or loggia: use metal rails and brackets for them. These systems are used in stores, but for this case they are more than convenient: the height changes easily with a fairly small step. The brackets are simply outweighed by other holes.

With such an organization of everything, what is needed is to put the doors. So the wardrobe is ready on the loggia or balcony.

By the way, you can make something similar from wooden blocks: recesses for the shelves with a certain step. You can make cuts with a saw and then remove with a chisel.

Often, shelves are made from cut pieces of planks. Since the width of the balcony is usually small, all sorts of trimming are used. Only so that they do not lose their appearance for a long time and are easily wiped off, they need to be covered with something. And although the glazed balcony and loggia are more related to the interior, take paints and varnishes for outdoor work, as well as protective impregnations. They contain substances that protect against ultraviolet radiation. Without them, in a couple of years, the wood will look miserable.

So that when working in the apartment it does not smell too much, you can take a water-based varnish. It does not create a film, but dirt is not absorbed into the surface.

What are the doors

There are three types of doors in the closet on the loggia or balcony:

  • ordinary swing;
  • sliding - like a wardrobe;
  • roller shutters.

All these doors can be for the entire height of the cabinet, but it is more convenient to divide it into two or three parts, and hang their own doors on each.

The most inexpensive are swing doors. Doors and hinges themselves are needed, and it is easy to "put" them in place by yourself. Sliding systems are more expensive. We need guides - top, bottom and side, as well as a roller system that is installed on the door leaf. But this option is attractive because it saves space.

The most expensive are roller shutters. But they are attractive because they come as a ready-made kit, and the installation is basically “attached” to the purchase.

Watch the video on how to assemble sliding doors for a balcony cabinet. Much will become clear.

How to make a balcony cabinet on a wooden frame

First, cut 4 racks to the required cabinet height. If you plan to make it all the way to the ceiling, measure each one separately, and do not cut the same ones. The heights are often decently different. The cut racks are attached. The distance between them determines the depth of the cabinet, but most often depends on the available space. They use as much as there is.

If there are three blank walls, no problem. The bars are attached to the dowels. They put the bar to the wall, verify its verticality, drill holes through and through for fasteners in the right places. The bar is removed, plastic plugs from the dowels are inserted into the holes in the wall. Having installed the bar in place, screw it to the wall with screws.

If you make a cabinet on the balcony, one side is attached to the wall, and the other - to the frame elements or only above and below - to the ceiling and floor (we use reinforced metal corners).

Another option for a similar case - if you need to close the window glass with something - put a wall near the window (for example, made of chipboard), fix it at the bottom and top with corners to the floor and ceiling, and then attach it to the wall (and to the stream and the floor) frame bars.

Then transverse bars are nailed to the racks. They give the entire system a high degree of rigidity and the shelves will rest on them.

In order not to "walk" the place near the glass, this part is also occupied by shelves. Since the width of the furniture turns out to be different, they often make two separate small cabinets: for the lower and for the upper half. Often they also differ in depth: the lower one can be made wider and heavier and larger things can be hidden there. In this case, the upper cabinet can be made shallower. In this case, the top of the lower cabinet can be used as a worktop.

Corner wardrobe on the loggia: photo report

At first, the loggia was lined with clapboard. Immediately after that, a wardrobe began to be made from the same lining. It was decided to want a corner, so as not to close the window too much. On the opposite side, the wardrobe takes up almost the entire width, slightly short of the balcony door.

The racks were not fastened. They nailed the bars on the ceiling and to the floor, the walls to them. They turned out to be short - in three planks. Planks were nailed to the wall paneling, on which the same paneling was laid, cut out to the resulting shape of the cabinet.

At the top and bottom of the doorway, a lining was stuffed across the opening. We measured the remaining distance, subtracted 1.5 centimeters for inaccuracies and cut the lining on the door of this length. It took six of them. They knocked them down with the help of four cross bars and knocked them down the doors. They were hung using regular hinges.

Two shelves are nailed in the free space between the cabinet wall and the balcony trim. A little later added a little higher with rounded edges. The last step was to nailed the plinth under the ceiling and on the floor (close the cracks), then sanded the lining with sandpaper and painted it with stain.

Drawings and diagrams

It is impossible to talk about any standards regarding cabinets for balconies. And the size and configuration, and the glazing is different for everyone. Therefore, even the size of the shelves has to be determined "in place". But we will give a few examples that you can change as you need.

How to make cabinet doors from lining?

Elena, Berezniki.

Hello Elena from Bereznyaki!

(Is this the same where Uralkali is?)

Beautiful carvings on the house where you are sitting. And the track made of edged boards looks original.

For the person who does such things, making cabinet doors from lining would not be difficult.

And so, there are no special difficulties for the manufacture of such doors. True, if you do it for the first time, you will have to try.

The first step should be the desire to do something with your own hands, the second is the availability of a set of the necessary tools. Workplace. Material.

Desire to eat. The set of tools should include - a tape measure, a construction square, a pencil, a hacksaw for wood, a hammer, a Phillips screwdriver, a knife, a plane, a chisel, other tools in the form of various and more complex things may be necessary, but it will be possible to do without it.

If the cabinet itself already exists, then the opening into which you are going to insert the future door should be framed with wooden bars along its entire perimeter.

According to the classics of the genre, it is desirable that this wooden block would still be selected in a quarter. Or, instead, slats should be nailed from the inside so that when the doors are closed, they do not fall into the opening, but simply fit flush with the surface of the front wall of the cabinet. But if this is not the case, then okay, you can do it.

I will not describe how to make elaborate cabinet doors with built-in hinges, this is usually done in kitchen and other cabinetry options.

Let's dwell on the simplest version, when a pair of hinges are used for one door leaf. / Although instead of them, you can use one piano loop of the required length. /

On the accompanying sketches, I tried to explain the manufacture of the doors in as much detail as possible.

First of all, take a wooden block with a cross section of 30/30 millimeters or more. If your cabinet is small, then the section is taken less, and if the cabinet is about two meters high, then the block should be taken with a correspondingly larger section. Approximately 40/40 or 40/50 millimeters. In short, the dimensions are indicative, you can play them in one direction or another.

The block should be cut from all sides, it will not hurt to grind it with an emery cloth, so that there are no burrs and scuffs at all.

Then you measure the opening of the cabinet itself (or make it in the image and likeness of the doors themselves).

Bars along their ends are cut into a quarter, as shown in the figure.

Alternatively, they can be made in the form of a thorn-groove connection, as indicated in another figure. But this will be somewhat more complicated, here you will additionally need to drill holes, which are then combined and a darning (wooden rod) is hammered into them.

The dimensions of the door frame are made several millimeters smaller than the dimensions of the cabinet opening itself. 2 to 5 millimeters. Then the frames will not interfere with each other when the door is closed.

All the bars of the frames are mounted on self-tapping screws with a length slightly less than the thickness of the bar.

Sometimes the corners of the door frames are additionally reinforced with metal window corners. They are sold freely in hardware stores. Such corners are fixed on the inside of the doors. In this case, it is important to observe the diagonal. That is, the diagonals of the frame must be equal to each other.

After you make sure that the door frame fits freely into the frame of the cabinet opening, hinges are attached to it. One at the top, one at the bottom. For this, a distance equal to the length of the loop is measured from the corner of the frame and the loop is attached so that its axis extends beyond the outer surface of the frame. Exactly and without distortions. Outline the contour of the loop with a pencil and select wood with a chisel to a depth equal to the thickness of the loop.

After the loop is screwed to the frame with self-tapping screws, the latter is inserted into the opening of the cabinet and the place of sampling of wood in the bar of the opening is marked along it. So that the frame does not sag and does not run over the bars of the opening, technological strips of the same thickness from 2 to 5 millimeters are nailed into the opening along the top, bottom and on the side opposite to the one where the hinges are located. Then the gaps will be constant. And the strips are removed after inserting the second halves of the hinges into the cabinet opening.

For small doors, window hinges are taken, for doors from one and a half to two meters high, door hinges are taken.

If the hinges are installed incorrectly (misaligned with each other, without making their surfaces flush with the surface of the door or opening bars), then distortions are possible and they will need to be corrected, for which sometimes thin wooden plates are placed under the hinges or old holes from self-tapping screws are hammered with wooden chops and screwing fasteners elsewhere.

After adjusting the frames, they begin to fill the lining door frame. Everything is elementary here. On the construction square, mark the places where the boards were cut, saw, process with emery cloth, install the doors on the frame and nail them, rallying all the boards. To do this, take galvanized clapboard or finishing nails (with small caps or without them at all) 40 millimeters long.

The edge board adjacent to the hinge side of the frame can be cut out where the hinges fit. This eliminates the gap between the wall of the cabinet, also sheathed with clapboard and the clapboard of the door.

Sometimes an option is used when the lining boards protrude slightly at the top and bottom beyond the door frame. In this case, the lining of the cabinet itself should be slightly less than the frame of the cabinet itself. This eliminates the cracks at the top and bottom of the door.

Cabinets can be either with a single-leaf door or double-leaf. Everything is done in the same way as for one sash. And between the doors at their joint, technological gaskets are also inserted, which are then removed. In order to prevent a gap between them with two-leaf doors, a strip-strip is nailed to one of the door halves.

In the event that the doors spontaneously open and close, a pair of shingalets is installed on their outer sides. Sometimes hooks or magnetic snaps from the inside. That is, they use different options.

If the cabinet door is about two meters high, then in the middle of the door it is additionally necessary to place another transverse bar for rigidity.

Here, as far as he could, he told about the cabinet doors made of lining.

If you do, then it is possible that the first pancake will be lumpy. Do not despair. For what is done is good that is done twice. Improvise, fantasize, be smart and everything will work out.

I don’t know how for an ultramodern kitchen, but for a garden and summer cottage, such a cabinet design will be quite enough. Cheap and cheerful.

Other questions on the topic of metal and interior doors, windows:

Doors

  • Installation of doors in an opening made of grooved gypsum boards
  • Installation of an entrance metal door in a log house

The shelves on the balcony will help to rationalize the space. If you close the hinged shelves with doors, you can get a closet practically built into the niche of the loggia. Hinged or folding models, wooden, glass or original, shelves differ from each other in the principle of openness: some of them can be open, others closed. Depending on the design of the balcony, its dimensions, it is worth choosing one or another model.

For an open balcony, folding or hinged structures are suitable, forming a whole rack. A closed balcony gives more room for imagination, since weather conditions are unlikely to affect the products. By the way, if the balcony is closed, but not heated, that is, in the cold season, the temperature in the room is much lower than at home, you should stock up on moisture-resistant materials for the shelves - high-quality wood with processing or stainless metal.

Let's talk about these horizontal elements: materials, fastening methods, what you need to create shelves with your own hands and how to think over a functional and durable structure for a loggia.

Materials (edit)

  • Chipboard famous for its cheapness and practicality. Chipboard shelves are very simple, easy-to-process material allows you to create from the simplest designs to interesting collages with storage space. It is easy to create a real wardrobe on the loggia thanks to the shelves: you can buy a ready-made structure or make it yourself. Particleboard is often used to create storage furniture and especially in a loggia. It is important that the material has a special coating against moisture and swelling, provided that there is increased humidity on the balcony or there is a sharp change in temperature.

Wall-mounted pieces of furniture on the balcony made of chipboard are suitable for arranging any balcony in any style. If you do not appreciate this space in the interior design, then install simple structures in light wood color, and it will become not only a practical piece of furniture, but also a modern and concise feature of your loggia.

  • Metal also serves to create hanging shelves on the balcony. The main thing is to choose a solid and lightweight base for creating shelves on the loggia or purchase a ready-made structure. For open balconies, choose stainless steel or aluminum; these materials are difficult to weather and do not deform from moisture, unlike wood or chipboard. However, metal products can change shape due to too heavy items that are stored on the shelves; this determines the selection of a certain thickness of the structure and the material used to create it.

  • Wood is used to make furniture and balcony shelves are no exception. Natural wood is capricious, so you should not install any elements of furniture from it on open balconies or those that are not insulated.

  • Glass as a base for hinged shelves is used no less often than the materials listed above. Glass shelves serve as a decorative element rather than a functional storage system.

  • Plastic is an inexpensive and practical material that surpasses chipboard in its qualities. Plastic shelves as part of the rack perfectly withstand dampness, moisture, temperature changes, so it is useful for arranging an open loggia. However, plastic does not withstand too heavy a load and does not always look stylish.

How to do it yourself

Balconies are different in their parameters, which requires an individual approach to creating furniture for it. If simple hinged shelves can be purchased in a store, it is not difficult to choose their size, then designs of several shelves, like a cabinet, force you to look for an alternative. An excellent solution would be to create hinged wooden shelves on the balcony with your own hands.

To begin with, it is worth determining the location of the shelves: mark the location of the future piece of furniture right on the walls, to facilitate the work and improve its quality, use the level: it will make the drawing as accurate as possible. After applying the markings, it is worth stocking up on the necessary materials: bars, sheets (MDF, chipboard, wood, lining). By the way, this and the following paragraphs of the article are devoted to the production of a small storage space on an open or closed loggia.

Nail 4 bars to the walls of the balcony, 2 bars on each side under each other, which form a niche, they will serve as the basis for fastening. If you wish, you can install the back and side walls for the shelves, on the same walls you can attach bars and hang elements from chipboard or wood. Next, we attach the sheets to the frame thanks to self-tapping screws, having previously attached them to the attachment point in order to make sure that the structure is correct and functional. It is important to determine the required height of the shelves and make the correct measurements so that things simply do not roll off the shelf.

After fixing the sheets, you should think about their design: leave them open or shield them with additional doors. For the manufacture of doors, you will need hinges, the doors themselves, handles and magnets. Here you can show your imagination: it is not necessary to make the wardrobe completely closed; combine open and closed shelves and you get an original and functional shelving unit.

It is also possible to make interior elements for storage from lining, more precisely, a balcony sheathed with this material with similar shelves will look good. By the way, lining is more practical in comparison with chipboard, it is better to take pine or spruce as a basis - they are heat and moisture resistant, durable and practical. If you cut out the elements yourself, then each of them should be processed with sandpaper or a grinder, additionally they can be treated with varnish or other coating of a predominantly transparent color, otherwise the natural shade of the wood will disappear.

Corner

It is easy to create a corner rack in a loggia, while you can use wood or metal, depending on your preferences and climatic conditions in the space. The corner structure is incredibly functional and will be especially useful on a closed balcony and even an open loggia, if you correctly approach the solution of the issue. With an open loggia open, leave those sections of the rack that are not exposed to direct sunlight and where the wind is unlikely to blow out, the same recommendation will come in handy when making a structure in a closed area.

Corner structures on the balcony do not necessarily form a rack, it is enough to place the finished elements one above the other and fix them with an original carved or strict design bracket.

Hanging shelves

Hanging shelves on the balcony, which do not form a rack, will be appropriate on the balcony in small quantities. It is convenient to put flowers, books, any other decor and useful things on such shelves. Their arrangement does not oblige you to be placed on top of each other in a classic way, be creative and place the pieces of furniture like a staircase - at different levels.

photos

Thanks to the shelves on the balcony, you can get an original and practical interior of the room, for example, as in the photo below. Rectangular structures are arranged on top of each other in a scatter in accordance with the proportions. Fig 1

A balcony is a pretty small space, when arranging it, almost everyone has a question: how to use it profitably and for convenience?

Most often it is used as a small recreation area or for storing rarely used items. But the most difficult thing is to organize this small space in such a way that it does not look like a dump. To do this, you need to equip a wardrobe on the balcony.

The most practical and easiest way to do it yourself is to use the lining. It will look especially impressive if the entire balcony is also sheathed with wooden clapboard.

The durability of the cabinet on the balcony

In order for the cabinet on the balcony to look harmonious, it is better to sew up one of the sides and do it directly in this niche. It is easier to do this on the loggia, because any of the short sides is already the back wall of the cabinet. But before starting the installation and installation of the cabinet, the balcony needs to be prepared.

Firstly, it makes sense to put a cabinet on the balcony only if it is glazed, because the impact of the external environment will significantly reduce its service life.

And the closet on the open balcony will look ridiculous, except for the case when it is just a small curbstone along the height of the railing. However, moisture, temperature extremes and sunlight will quickly render it unusable.

Secondly, it is very important to prepare the floor and wall to which the cabinet will be mounted. The fewer the temperature differences on the balcony, the longer the storage space will last. Therefore, it will be optimal if the balcony is insulated. And on the floor under the closet, you can lay an additional OSB sheet.

Only after preparation can you proceed directly to the installation of the cabinet.

Tools and materials for making the cabinet

So, for the manufacture of a reliable and beautiful cabinet, you will need:

  • wooden beams 40x40 mm - for the cabinet frame;
  • thin beams - for the door frame;
  • lining;
  • metal corners;
  • boards for cabinet shelves;
  • fittings (handles, hinges, lock, etc.);
  • nails, screws, clamps.

The beams for the frame can be taken from inexpensive tree species, for example, pine, they will still be hidden. However, the quality of the beams should be good, only dry and clean wood.

If the cabinet is fully built-in, that is, the walls of the balcony will be its walls, then you need to prepare long anchor bolts with which the cabinet frame will be attached to the walls.

What tools will be needed along the way:

  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • hammer;
  • saw;
  • level and tape measure.

Calculation and selection of the necessary materials

First of all, before starting work, you need to decide on the clapboard from which the cabinet will be made. The best fit for this is a lining made of trees that do not emit resin - linden, cedar, ash or oak. The more expensive the lining and the higher its class, the more beautiful the cabinet will look, and the more durable it will be.

After all, the quality of the lining is also the quality of its processing. But it is still not recommended to purchase the lining of the lowest class C, since it is not suitable for cladding in terms of its functional characteristics. Therefore, how much money to spend on materials for the cabinet is the choice and decision of each master.

How do you calculate the amount of materials required for the cabinet? Let's say its depth will be 50 cm, the width of the cabinet - along the width of the balcony - about a meter, and the height - 1.8 m. For the upper frame, you will need 2x0.5 + 2x1 = 3 m / beams, and the same amount for the lower frame. And also 4 vertical racks of 1.8 m each - 7.2 m / linear. That is, in total, you need about 14 mpg of beams for the frame.

To calculate the required number of lining, you need to take into account whether the cabinet will have walls, or the walls of the balcony serve as them. In the second case, the lining is needed only for covering the cabinet doors. Of course, when purchasing all the necessary materials, you need to take a small stock, taking into account a possible marriage or an error in calculations. Better then somewhere to use the leftover materials than to go to buy the missing piece.

The back wall of the cabinet is best covered with a laminated fiberboard. This will increase the moisture resistance of the cabinet and it will last longer.

Cabinet assembly and clapboard paneling

To assemble the cabinet frame, we first mount the front and rear cabinet frames. To do this, you need to connect the bars with metal corners. The connection of the beams can be done without using corners, but then self-tapping screws no shorter than 60mm will be needed.

Bars of 50 cm are attached to the frame, they are also fixed with anchor bolts. Then the front frame is attached to them.

To make the structure more rigid and durable, the front frame can also be fixed to the walls and the floor. Further, shelves are placed inside the cabinet.

Sheathing the cabinet with clapboard

If the walls of the cabinet are the walls of the balcony, then the lining of the cabinet with clapboard will consist only in the lining of the door. In this case, the lining should be as thin and light as possible.

First you need to make a light frame of thin beams. The dimensions of the frame correspond to the dimensions of the future door and should be equal to half of the front frame of the cabinet itself. To make the door more durable, you can add a pepper bar. Next, we attach the lining to the frame, this needs to be done with small carnations. After that, the handle and hinges are attached, as well as decorative trims, if provided.

When the door is completely ready and sheathed, the hinges are attached to the frame on the other side and the door is hung on the cabinet. The final stage is the obligatory processing of wooden lining with varnish or paint. The first option is more preferable, since the color and structure of natural wood will remain, which in itself looks very beautiful. In addition, varnishing will extend the service life of the lining.

Thus, making a convenient, practical and beautiful cabinet on the balcony with your own hands is not so difficult, and the result is certainly worth the effort.
