Enamel facade paint for wooden surfaces. Facade paint for wood for outdoor use

Wood is still often used for the construction of residential buildings. Some choose it for the environmental friendliness of the material, some for its affordability.

But both of them understand that a natural base requires additional protection. This function is perfectly handled by the facade paint for wood for outdoor use. The main thing is to choose the right product in the store and apply it using all the recommendations.

To update the appearance of a house built of natural wood, two completely different substances are used, which will be discussed in more detail below.

Varnish

This coating completely preserves the structure of the wood, does not hide or mask it. The popularity is also explained by the fact that this material is produced from natural substances with a small addition of synthetic components. Such additives only improve the technical characteristics of the varnish.

It is vapor-permeable, resistant to abrasion, perfectly repels moisture, and as you know, wood quickly absorbs a large amount of water and collapses under its influence. The varnish dries quickly and, importantly, protects all elements from sunlight.

If the outer walls are varnished, then they need to be updated after a few years. But before reapplying, you do not need to peel off the previous layer at all.

Dye

This coating already has different shades due to various synthetic dyes. Coloring compositions differ in price, availability of various components, durability and other characteristics.

There are several types of paints that can be used on wooden façades. You need to talk about each type separately and evaluate its advantages and disadvantages.

Oil paint

It is made exclusively from natural solvent with the addition of synthetic dyes. The basis is linseed oil, which is extracted from the seeds of flax, hemp and sunflower. The price of such a coloring composition is very affordable. That is why it is still popular today. But oil paint has many disadvantages.

  • Unpleasant odor that persists for a long time after application to the base.
  • Long drying time, about 12 hours.
  • Paint can only be applied after the old coating has been completely removed. Otherwise, after a few months, the renewed layer will peel off and crack.
  • Rapid loss of the original appearance under the influence of ultraviolet radiation.
  • The service life of the applied layer is up to 3 years.
  • When dry, the oil paint creates a vapor barrier that interferes with natural ventilation.

Having evaluated all of the above, we can say that this option is not the most suitable for renovating and protecting a wooden facade.

Acrylic paint

In hardware stores, this type of wood dye composition is presented in two versions:

  1. Solvent based.
  2. Water-dispersive.

Solvent-based acrylic paint contains resins that dissolve in organic matter. Manufacturers also add components that increase resistance to solar radiation and other negative factors in the atmosphere.

Thanks to this composition, solvent-based acrylic paint:

  • Does not fade color for a long time.
  • Protects wood from moisture.
  • Resists temperature extremes well.
  • Allows steam from indoor spaces to pass outside.
  • The applied layer does not crack.

Some manufacturers produce compounds that can be easily used to paint the facade in the winter season. Water-dispersive acrylic paints are distinguished by the absence of pungent odors. This is one of the important factors that affects the popularity of such coverage.

In addition, manufacturers introduce polymer components into the composition that improve technical characteristics, and such a coating remains invariably attractive for a long time. All acrylic paints have a number of distinctive characteristics that allow them to occupy their own niche in the range of facade paints:

  1. They create a polymer protective film on the surface.
  2. They let moisture out of the interior.
  3. There is no pungent smell.
  4. Resistant to abrasion and fading.
  5. They create a durable coating due to high adhesion.
  6. The service life is up to 20 years.
  7. A wide range of colors.

Silicone paint

For wood, this color composition is extremely suitable. But finding it is very difficult. The price of the goods is quite high, because construction stores are rarely brought in, and even then only on order. Despite this, professionals recommend that owners whose houses are located in a climatic zone with high humidity, with sharp changes in the average annual temperature, use just such a paint.

Using a silicone compound outside, you don't have to worry about:

  • Pre-application of a primer layer before painting.
  • Cracking of the applied layer.
  • Moisture absorption.
  • Erasing paint.

The main thing during application is to adhere to all instructions if you plan to do it yourself.

Alkyd paint

Such a coloring composition for a wooden facade is made from polyhydric alcohols and alkyd resins. It perfectly protects the base from moisture and high temperatures. But working with such compositions should be extremely careful.

  1. The substance is highly flammable. When treating the surface, care must be taken that there is no open flame or a source of high temperatures nearby.
  2. It is advisable to protect yourself well. Use a respirator, goggles and clothing. But that's not all. The service life of the painted layer is no more than 5 years.

After that, the paint begins to crack and crumble. To avoid this, professional craftsmen recommend protecting the surface layer with transparent varnish.

Method of applying paint

Paint brushes come in a variety of sizes. To paint the facade, it is better to stock up on several. The widest one is suitable for a large area. A smaller tool comes in handy if you need to update window frames or decorative elements. But you need to be able to work with brushes.

Often there are marks or smudges from the instrument. Therefore, they are best used for small parts. But if there was no other option at hand, then the brush can also be handled. It will take more time, but the result will still be.

A roller is best used on flat surfaces. If the outer walls of the house are made of solid logs, then it will be very difficult to process all the corners. In this case, you will also have to stock up on a brush.

The best option for painting external walls is considered. The layer is applied evenly and does not spread. But here, too, you need to be careful. Not all paints can be poured into this device. The coloring solution must have a certain viscosity, otherwise the spray gun will be damaged.

Not everyone can cope with such a device on their own, therefore it is better to hire a professional team that knows how to work with what paint.

Staining rules

It is important not only to choose the right paint, but also to apply it correctly in order to get a good result that will delight you for more than one year.

  • We start by preparing the foundation. It all depends on whether it is a new or an old house. If the house is new, then you need to properly grind the surface and cover with deep penetration soil.
  • If the house has already been used and painted before, then you need to remove the old paint. If this is not done, then the new layer will soon crack and fall off under the pressure of old scales. It is necessary to ensure that there are no cracks, chips, traces of fungus or the vital activity of insects or rodents on the surface. If such flaws were found, they are removed.
  • Be sure to apply a deep penetration soil. To do this, use a brush. If a silicone composition was chosen for external use, then this stage is sometimes skipped.
  • The primer must be completely dry.
  • Then you can start applying paint.
  • The solution must be mixed well. During storage, coloring components may settle to the bottom and discolor.
  • It must be remembered that almost all paints are applied in 2 or even three layers. For the first layer, you can dilute the paint with a primer, but 2 should not be diluted. Reapplication is carried out only after the previous one is completely dry. The time for complete drying is indicated on the package.

It is imperative to pay attention to the weather. If there is wind, the sun is baking strongly, or, on the contrary, it is going to rain, then it is better to postpone everything. The wind will apply a bunch of dust and dirt, which will adhere instantly, and it can only be removed by completely removing a layer of paint.

Hot weather will prevent the paint from drying out evenly, and this will make the applied layer less durable. And the high humidity will not allow the dyeing composition to adhere reliably to the wood surface. Low-cloud weather with an air temperature of 5 to 25 degrees Celsius is suitable for high-quality staining, the humidity should not exceed 50%.

Please note that morning time will not work either. Dew can accumulate on the façade, and the surface must be perfectly dry before paint is applied. Start coloring no earlier than 11 in the morning.

Requirements for facade paints, naturally presented by buyers: durability and environmental safety. They must also retain color, withstand significant temperature changes, and have attractive natural shades. Quality is ensured not only by the manufacturer, but also by observing the rules for painting various surfaces. For example, wood facade paint should be applied over a layer of an adhesive alkyd primer. Typically, buyers use antiseptic primers, but they only protect the wood, not the adhesion of the layers.

That is why even good facade paint cracks and peels off within 2 years after application. At the same time, manufacturers guarantee the integrity of the coating for decades. To achieve this, it is necessary to follow the application technology. Many years of experience accumulated by manufacturers allows us to create the best paint and varnish materials for the facade. The division into the types of surfaces that they are painted with has a positive effect on the result, since the degree of absorbency for different building materials differs.

How to paint a wooden facade?

The choice of paint depends on the desired result: it completely covers the wood, creating an opaque layer, or leaves a visible structure of the wood. In the first case, acrylic or oil paints are used, in the second - tinted antiseptics or varnish.

Modern paints are distinguished by better resistance to atmospheric precipitation. Oily varieties are usually chosen in light shades, as they fade over the years. This does not affect the performance, only the gloss changes, losing its original appearance.

Acrylic paints are flexible and breathable, their formula allows you to maintain a balance of moisture and dryness of wood. It can be used for both facade and interior work, while it can be used on an old surface. You just need to make sure that it is dry and properly prepare the surface. Alkyd enamels are also used for painting wooden facades. They provide a glossy shine or satin (matte) surface, penetrate well into the pores of the tree, preserving its natural properties.

The color palette of almost all facade paints allows you to give the surface any shades, to implement original design solutions. Elasticity allows them to stretch and shrink together with the wood, protects them from cracking. This property is important for painting only erected buildings, which will shrink within a year.

Any facade paint is applied after special preparation of the wood. If an adhesive primer is not used, the adhesion of the primer to the wood is ensured by sanding. To do this, use a grinder or fine-grain sandpaper. After sanding, the surface is cleaned of wood dust with a wet brush.

When choosing a tinted antiseptic, one should take into account the presence in the composition of additives not only against decay and bugs, but also protecting against UV radiation and moisture. They prevent the growth of mold, algae and keep the shade fresh. Tinted antiseptics are divided into the following types:

  • glazing,
  • coverts.

The first ones leave a transparent layer, only shading the wood. The latter do not allow you to see its pattern, structure, as they create a dense layer.

The quality characteristics do not deteriorate in any type of antiseptic, the transparent layer protects the tree as well as the dense one.

How to paint a wooden facade?

The paint is applied by hand with a wide brush along the natural pattern of a bar or log. The ends of the tree are treated with a special water-based sealant. It does not allow moisture from the street to penetrate into the pores of the tree, while maintaining its ability to breathe. The second layer is applied after the facade has been treated with an abrasive sponge. It creates microscopic roughness, due to which high-quality adhesion of the layers is ensured.

It is important to know that a new wooden house can be painted immediately if it is built of laminated veneer lumber. Other types of wood materials require additional natural drying. The same goes for the old wooden house. Make sure that the log or timber does not contain excess moisture. Work is carried out at above-zero temperatures in dry weather.

As before, the wood of pine, larch, cedar, spruce, fir, oak, ash, walnut and many other coniferous and deciduous species is actively used in construction due to its qualities such as high strength, ease of processing, beautiful surface pattern created by the direction of the fibers , environmental friendliness.

True, buildings and wood products are susceptible to external aggressive factors: high humidity and temperature, sudden temperature changes, harmful insects, mold, fungus.

According to reviews, facade paint on wood helps to make the material less vulnerable.

Previously, oil paints on drying oil were used to paint wooden elements, now the range of paints for wooden facades has significantly increased due to a variety of dispersion materials - acrylic antiseptic primers, acrylic and alkyd enamels, colorless varnishes reinforced with polyurethane.

When choosing protection, it is important to know the properties and purpose of all these paints, which will save money when choosing a reliable facade coating.

Is it really necessary to use a protective coating?

Facade paint, with the right approach to its choice, allows not only to solve certain aesthetic problems, but also to protect wood from excess moisture, exposure to ultraviolet rays, harmful insects, fungus, mold, will help to extend the service life by preventing rapid aging, will emphasize the beautiful natural structure of the tree ...

When choosing facade paints for wood, many factors are taken into account, including:

  1. Wood species. There is an unspoken rule according to which conifers are used for load-bearing structures, interior decoration is carried out using valuable species. In the decoration of facades, both coniferous and deciduous species can be used - pine, spruce, aspen, birch, linden, in a more expensive version - larch, cedar.
  2. Natural conditions in which the wooden facade will be used, while performing a protective function for the entire structure.
  3. The ability to pre-treat the material before starting the installation of parts or re-treat a surface that has been exposed to the environment during operation.
  4. When reprocessing - taking into account whether the previous paint for wooden facades is combined with a new one, which is different in composition.

Types and types of modern coatings

For outdoor woodwork, you can use one of the proposed coating options, depending on what design solution is to be implemented and how much money is planned to be spent.

However, the painting of wooden facade areas implies the use of additional tools, the names of which are not so easy to understand.

It is customary to call paint a homogeneous suspension of pigments in substances that, during the drying process, form a homogeneous film that has the property of opacity.

Their composition to improve performance can be supplemented with various fillers, plasticizers, solvents, hardeners.

Enamels are a suspension of pigments in varnish, which, when dried, forms a hard opaque decorative film with original textures.

Varnishes are solutions of substances in organic solvents, which, when dried, form a film.

In order to level out the color of the base, to improve the adhesion of paint, special primers are used, called primers. In terms of functions, this tool is similar to a primer, which is designed to provide high-quality adhesion of the finishing layers when painting.

The composition of facade paints for wood includes a base (binder), fillers, pigments (substances for imparting color and shades), drying catalysts (driers), various additives for giving the surface gloss or mattness, increasing flow, reducing the formation of sagging.

Three types of paints and varnishes are used to process the facade of a wooden house, we are talking about transparent paints and varnishes, water-dispersion paints and opaque enamels.

Transparent paints and varnishes

Transparent facade paints allow the natural structure of the wood to appear. Such material is irreplaceable if there is a desire to emphasize the beauty of the pattern created by wood fibers.

Transparent facade paint has the advantage that, due to its high vapor permeability, it dries quickly on the surface of the wood.

Modern formulations are supplemented with ultraviolet filters that protect the tree from the sun's rays. But even in high humidity conditions, such a paint for facades allows the wood to dry in accordance with operational requirements.

The facade protected with transparent facade paints on wood will not age prematurely, therefore, re-painting will only be needed after a few years, and without removing the previous layer.

The price of transparent paints for wooden facades on the market ranges from 200 rubles per 1 liter, which can be justified by a set of operational characteristics.

Water-dispersive paints and varnishes

The properties of water-dispersion paints for wooden facades are appreciated all over the world, therefore, they occupy more than 80% of the production of all types of paints and varnishes.

As the name implies, water acts as a solvent for this type of paint, and acrylates (esters and salts of acrylic acid) are most often used as binding elements. Alkyd resins synthesized mainly from phthalic anhydride, glyphthalic or pentaphthalic resins, synthetic latexes can be used.

The coating obtained as a result of painting the facade of a wooden house is characterized by high parameters in terms of color fastness, exposure to moisture and sun.

At the same time, the vapor permeability and water resistance of the resulting surface is provided by "breathing" walls, which is one of the most important indicators for the comfort of housing.

When using dispersion facade paints, avoid cold temperatures. The fact is that the surface of the tree after applying a protective layer becomes frost-resistant, but the solution itself stratifies under the influence of low temperature, losing its best performance characteristics.

Painting of wooden facades with water-dispersive materials can be carried out in any available form: by spraying, multiple application of a layer with a roller or brush.

Water-dispersive paints, the price of which exceeds 2 USD for 1 kilogram, they have another undoubted quality - durability.

Re-painting of a wooden facade under unfavorable natural conditions may be necessary after 4 years, but in some cases, even after 8 years, the structure will look like new.

Properties of opaque enamels based on organic solvents

Paint for wood products, including facades, using organic solvents was quite popular, but gradually lost its position due to the spread of water-dispersion coatings for facade work.

Among the main disadvantages of these paints for facades of wooden structures are increased toxicity and danger in terms of compliance with fire safety rules.

A material that does not neutralize, but enhances the flammability of wood, causes understandable concerns among consumers.

Among the minuses and the fragility of painting: the film is formed on the surface, not penetrating into the middle of the wood. Therefore, under the influence of moisture and temperature, the surface of the facades of wooden buildings quickly decays and cracks.

The same "effect" can be quickly achieved if damp wood is painted.

The exception is polyurethane enamels, which are quite resistant to aggressive environmental factors. They are durable, have excellent protective properties, but are made from rather toxic raw materials. The only thing that stops a potential buyer is the price.

How to calculate the cost of work

The exact cost of painting is determined by a number of parameters:

  • the price of the used paint and varnish material;
  • surface type;
  • facade surface area;
  • the number of layers of paint applied;
  • the need to get rid of the previous protective layer;
  • additional work on the restoration of wood, processing it with antiseptic agents, priming the painted surface and some other operations;
  • materials that will be needed for additional work, such as abrasives for grinding.

The price of paints, enamels and primers can differ significantly in retail outlets in one city, while the prices for paints and varnishes from foreign manufacturers are 5 times higher than domestic ones: from 1.5 to 8 USD. for 1 kilogram.

In this case, one should take into account the consumption of paint for each square meter, and then determine the amount of material spent for painting.

After making a preliminary calculation, you can navigate the cost of services from professionals or choose a more profitable option - to paint the facade with your own hands.

We repaint the house ourselves

Re-painting the house is done after the type of the previous paint and varnish material has been determined, otherwise all efforts will be nullified.

For diagnostics, you can use a sandpaper, with which the surface is rubbed. Water-dispersion paints remain on the abrasive paper, while alkyd and oil paints crumble.

If the painting was carried out 10 years ago or more, it was the last of the named paints that were used.

The layer of paint that is peeling and peeling must be carefully removed. Craftsmen do it with a blowtorch, professionals use special technical hair dryers. The surface is warmed up and then scraped off with a spatula or hairdryer.

The façade surface that has been cleaned and prepared for painting must be dry, then a uniform layer of paint can be applied.

High-quality facade paint for wood for outdoor use should be durable, create an aesthetic and environmentally friendly coating.

The cladding should retain color saturation and basic properties even when exposed to high and low temperatures, open up additional opportunities for choosing suitable shades.

It is important to understand that the quality of wood paint is determined not only by the manufacturer.

In order for the coating to last for the stated period, without requiring replacement or repair, certain staining rules must be observed. So, for example, on wooden facades, the material can only be applied if there is a layer of alkyd primer, which replaces the primer, which guarantees protection for the wood, but does not provide adhesion to the coating.

The use of primers instead of the indicated alkyd primer leads to premature wear of the coating (as a rule, it lasts no more than two years).

In addition to proper surface preparation, it is important to choose a paint for the facade treatment, which will extend the life of the base, protecting it from temperature extremes, precipitation and mechanical damage.

Since we are talking about facades made of wood, below are useful recommendations for choosing just such a paint that can provide reliable protection for a wooden facade.

Acrylic for decoration - what could be better?

The choice of paint for outdoor use should depend on the desired result. The coating can completely cover a wooden facade, create a thin opaque layer or a transparent film through which the structure of the wood can be seen.

To create the effect described in the first case, it is good to use acrylic and oil mixtures.

In the second case, wood varnish and colored antiseptics will be more appropriate.

Correctly selected acrylic paint allows you to create a practical and reliable veneer that does not crack for many years and retains a bright and rich color.

Acrylic paint demonstrates excellent elasticity, allows the walls to "breathe", preventing condensation in the room and drying out the wood.

The materials can be used for the finishing of new wooden facades and surfaces previously tiled.

A good option for painting wooden facades is alkyd enamels, due to which structures can be given the desired shine or matte. Such materials for outdoor use have the property of penetrating wood, extending its life.

Facade acrylic paint for wood is presented today in a wide range of colors and shades, allowing you to bring to life the bold ideas of designers and architects.

Please note that surfaces should be processed only after the building has shrunk, that is, a year after construction.

When choosing colored antiseptics, you should opt for materials for outdoor use, which include additives that prevent the formation of rot or the appearance of insects in the base. In addition, tinted antiseptics should protect walls from UV rays, moisture and temperature extremes.

Materials are divided into:

  • coverts;
  • glazing.

The former form a transparent film on the surface of the wood, the latter create a dense layer through which the texture of the wood is not noticeable. Both versions of antiseptics perfectly protect facades, have proven themselves well in the country's climate.

Features of applying paint to a wooden facade

The main thing in the process of applying paint is preparing the walls. It is important to clean the surface of dirt and treat it with the above primer. You can replace the finish with a primer by sanding the base with sandpaper or a special grinder.

The procedure will improve the adhesion of the material to the base of the wall.

The material is applied with a brush or roller, always along the natural pattern of the tree.

Separately, it is worth treating the ends of the facade, using a water-based sealant for this, which will protect it from moisture and at the same time will not violate the ability to "breathe".

A second coat of paint should be applied only after the base has been treated with an abrasive sponge, which will create micro-roughness, improving the adhesion of the layers.

It should be remembered that painting a house immediately after construction is possible only if it was built from laminated veneer lumber. All other types of wood will require additional drying of the facade.

It is important to apply paint for outdoor woodwork at temperatures above zero in weather without precipitation and high humidity.

Drevoplast for finishing wooden facades

Separately, it is worth mentioning the Drevoplast paint, specially developed for cladding wooden facades. Reviews on the network once again confirm that the material is one of the best for wood processing.

Its main advantages include the following points:

  • Drevoplast is simple and easy to use;
  • resistant to precipitation;
  • does not allow moisture to pass through and maintains elasticity;
  • demonstrates high levels of coverage;
  • Drevoplast can have the effect of "liquid plastic".

Drevoplast is a facade paint for wooden facades with increased resistance to atmospheric influences.

The material provides reliable protection to the bases from precipitation, winds, and prevents the formation of mold and mildew.

Drevoplast can be used for both external and internal work in residential, industrial and industrial premises.

Drevoplast can be applied both to previously painted and to new surfaces after their preliminary treatment.

If your goal is to decorate and modernize the facade of the house ...

Additional processing of natural wood will significantly increase its service life. What dyes are recommended for treating wooden facades and how effectively do they cope with their task?

The wooden facade needs additional protection. The modern market is replete with paints and varnishes, which causes difficulties for buyers. Competent selection of paint will not only transform the structure, but also extend the life of the wood.

High-quality paint for the treatment of wooden surfaces should perform the following functions:

  • minimization of cracks and deformations;
  • masking the loss of the natural color of the tree;
  • giving a shade to a wooden covering;
  • protection of the product from external factors;
  • minimization of the occurrence of mold, mildew and other negative phenomena.

Colorless varnishes and paints

Transparent coatings will be a good solution for those owners of wooden houses who want to emphasize the natural color of wood.

Among obvious advantages a colorless dye, the following should be highlighted:

  • Vapor permeability- coloring agents of this type effectively remove excess flag from wood, minimizing the risk of mold and mildew.
  • UV protection- colorless varnishes and paints adequately perform the function of an ultraviolet filter, protecting the wooden coating from the harmful effects of sunlight.
  • Practicality- re-treatment of the surface is necessary after 3 years without first removing the previous layer of paint.

Water-dispersive

Water-based paints are in great demand both in the Russian and European markets. Abroad, their share reaches 82% from the entire production of paints and varnishes.

The popularity of the dye is due to its merits. Among them, the following are distinguished:

  • Wide range of colors- water-dispersion paints are presented in various colors, which will allow you to embody the most daring design decisions.
  • Coating durability- thanks to the high-quality pigments, the dye will last for a long time: from 4 to 8 years.
  • Environmental friendliness- due to the unique production technology, the coating does not harm human health. Often it is even used to decorate childcare facilities.
  • Protective properties- the coating is distinguished by atmospheric, water and color resistance. Moreover, water-based paints are characterized by water resistance, vapor permeability and resistance to low temperatures.

As for the downsides, the dye is not intended for work at subzero temperatures... The composition of the coating contains water; under the influence of severe frost, the paint exfoliates during application.

Another drawback of the dye is its price.... The cost of water-dispersion paints is several times higher than the price policy of other products on the market. But in return, users receive a dye with high quality characteristics.

Opaque enamels

Opaque enamels based on organic solvents took the leading positions in the market several years ago. With the advent of water-dispersion dyes, enamels were somewhat supplanted.

Among the advantages of the dye, one can note the democratic cost and a variable palette of colors.

Note! Among the varieties of opaque enamels, only polyurethane dyes differ in durability. However, their toxicity is as high as their strength.

The main disadvantage of opaque enamels is their toxicity, fire hazard and low level of resistance to external influences. Moisture and temperature changes provoke severe wear of the coating.

Wooden house painting technology

Facade painting is a demanding task. If you follow the step-by-step recommendations, the procedure will not cause difficulties even for inexperienced users.

Removing old paint

This is one of the fundamentally important steps when repainting a facade. Failure to follow this procedure will cause the new coating to peel off along with old paint particles.

There are several alternative ways to remove old coatings. Among them are the following:

  • Mechanical cleaning. The technique is effective for cleaning even and smooth surfaces. A scraper or sander will only remove a thin layer of old paint.

Note! To minimize the time spent on processing the facade with a spatula or grinder, it is recommended to warm up the surface in advance with a construction hair dryer.

  • Chemical cleansing. The technique consists in applying a chemical substance to the facade of the house, which is able to soften up to 9 layers of old paint. Subsequently, the old coating and residues of the substance are removed with water and a stiff brush.

Note! The modern market offers the buyer environmentally friendly compositions for removing old coatings. The harmful effect of the substance on the human body is minimized.

  • Water jet cleaning. A special device that provides strong water pressure in the shortest possible time will allow you to get rid of the old coating. It is recommended to dry thoroughly before applying new paint.

Sanding and filler

In order to extend service life new paint, old coating must be sanded using a grinder or disc drill.

Note! It is recommended to sand the wood in the direction of the grain. Otherwise, scratches and other damage will remain on the coating.

Putty is an equally important step in preparing the coating for painting. The procedure will allow eliminate irregularities and cracks which may be noticeable when new coat is applied.

Application technology is simple and straightforward. Sanding should be applied in a thin layer to damaged areas of the wood and dried before further processing.

Note! Wood sanding should be done with oil or glue putty. This type of material has proven in practice to be resistant to moisture and other unfavorable environmental factors.

Treatment

A wooden façade is susceptible to external influences. For protection of the coating from fungi, mold, excess moisture and insects wood must be treated with a ground antiseptic agent.

Note! For external processing of wood, it is recommended to give preference to mixtures characterized by water-repellent and protective properties. We are talking about antiseptics on a water-dispersion basis. The colorless "North Antiseptic Primer" received good reviews.

For high-quality surface treatment there are several important rules to follow. Among them are the following:

  • The mixture must be applied to a dry and clean surface. Otherwise, the primer will not be sufficiently absorbed, and, accordingly, the protective properties of the mixture will not fully work.
  • Water-dispersion mixtures need optimal temperature conditions: + 10⁰С. If you ignore the rules of application, there is a high risk of disrupting the chemical properties of the substance.
  • Surface treatment should be started from damaged areas, cuts and ends. It is recommended to pay special attention to the places where the wood comes into contact with metal surfaces. Mildew is likely to form in these areas.

Dyeing

Upon completion of the preparatory work
you can safely start painting the facade. If you follow the coating technique, the procedure will not cause difficulties even for non-sweaty users:

  • Paint needed pour into a special container for easy application... It is recommended to mix the mixture thoroughly. In the event that the coating is too thick, it must be thinned with a solvent (no more than 10% of the total paint mass).
  • The roller must be dipped in a container of paint and removing excess coating from the tool apply it to the facade in the direction of the fibers. For subsequent application, it is recommended to overlap 3 cm of the previous strip.

Note! The painting should be started from the corners of the building, painting them over very carefully. It is necessary to complete the procedure by applying a coating to the basement of the building, as excess paint will flow down.

  • After one hour or a day (depending on the paint manufacturer's recommendations) after applying the first coat you need to apply a final coat... In accordance with the technology, it is recommended to apply it with undiluted paint.

Note! It is not recommended to paint the facade in rainy or too sunny weather. A dry, medium cloudy day is ideal for work.

Main manufacturers

The modern market is replete with manufacturers offering various types of dyes for dyeing wood. What are the features of modern coatings and how not to be mistaken when choosing a quality dye.

Belinka

Belinka, a manufacturer from Slovenia, which is widely represented on the domestic market. The company offers customers both colorless dyes that enhance the natural shade of wood, and a coating with a variety of colors.

Belinka products effectively protects wood from sunlight, fungus and insects.

Impressions of use : when painting, a large consumption of paint was recorded. It is recommended to apply the coating in one layer, otherwise the joints will be noticeable, even if the first layer was applied 2-3 hours ago.

Tikkurila

Tikkurila is a Finnish colorant manufacturer that has received many accolades from country house owners. Products of the company are characterized by decent European quality. The cost of Tikkuril dyes is in a more expensive price range in comparison with competitors.

Note! Among the company's products, it is necessary to highlight the Ultra Classic coating. The dye is specially designed for extreme temperature changes. The product proved itself worthy in severe frosts.

Impressions of use : Finnish manufacturer met expectations. The dye served for 5 years. Over the period of its "existence" the paint has retained a rich shade, the first sign of destruction was a fine mesh on the coating.

Alpina (ALPINA)

The manufacturer Alpina pampers buyers a wide range of dyes and regular line updates... Inexpensive coatings Alpina are worthy competition to more "promoted" manufacturers.

Dyes protect wood from mold, mildew and sunlight. The manufacturer provides a computer coloration service.

Impressions from use: wood absorbs paint like a sponge. The coating consumption directly depends on how well the preliminary processing of the facade was carried out. The dye really has a water-repellent effect, water droplets flow down the coating. The only drawback is water stains.
