Bathroom renovation portal. Useful Tips

Bathtub design in Khrushchev panels. Bathroom design in Khrushchev (real photos)

The main purpose of the rework is to maximize useful area small bathroom premises. There are two main methods for solving this problem:

  • Complete remodeling of the bathroom with the addition of a toilet and part of the corridor.
  • Expansion of the usable area of the room through redevelopment and selection of plumbing, which will be compact, in addition, designer techniques are used that can visually increase the space.

In the first case, you will radically increase the size of the room, but you will have a large expenditure of labor and materials. And in the second case, the main problem will not even be the reconstruction itself, but its coordination in different instances.

Ways to solve the problem of small bathrooms - Change of style, change of plumbing, combination of a bathroom, rearrangement in the bathroom.

Each option assumes specific work. For example, when moving the toilet or sink, it is necessary to carry out the transfer of risers, as well as shorten the water pipes, or vice versa, perform their laying.

DESIGN PROJECT 1. No permutations. The easiest way to change the design of a 4 sq. m in houses of this series - to dismantle the partition separating the bathroom and toilet. We leave the plumbing in place. But we use the ventilation box to the fullest: we hide the installation system of suspended plumbing in it, we hide the drain system. And in the same false plasterboard partition we mount the socket and the switch for the lamp near the mirror.

DESIGN PROJECT 2. Bath on the podium. This bathroom design project is 4 sq. m assumes a complete redevelopment of the bathroom: as a result, the sink is in place of the bathroom, and the bath rises to the podium. Raising the bathtub allows you to solve several problems at once: to provide a spacious place for the daily washing procedure and to create a closed space for taking baths. If desired, the partition can be replaced with a glass wall, which slightly violates privacy, but provides better illumination.

More on the podium:

DESIGN PROJECT 3. Bath in a niche. This bathroom design is 4 sq. m assumes the division of space into three zones: as a result, the bath is in a niche on one side of the entrance, and the toilet is on the other. Such a room design is 4 sq. m even allows you to carve out a place in a niche for embedding a washing machine. In order for the door of the washing machine to open completely, the machine itself is supposed to be raised to the podium, or to replace the traditional model with a modification with top loading.

DESIGN PROJECT 4. Shower instead of a bath. The bathroom design is 4 sq. m abandoning the bath in favor of a spacious shower is only welcome. The model looks good on the whole wall. Limited only by glass doors, it will visually enlarge a small room. Draining is carried out into the floor using a construction method, or the corresponding built-in pallets can be purchased. The luminaires are integrated into the suspended ceiling and hidden behind a mirror. This technique gives a diffuse, eye-pleasing light.

Another option with an angular arrangement

DESIGN PROJECT 5. Functional mirrors. Design project of a room 4 sq. m assumes the unification of the bathroom space and its visual increase with the help of large glass doors of the shower stall and a strip of mirror encircling two walls with a protrusion of the ventilation duct. By the way, mirrors here serve as facades of storage systems. Having abandoned the bath in favor of the cabin, it was possible to find a place even for a bidet! All thanks to the perpendicular position of the toilet.

Renovating a bathroom in Khrushchev is not an easy task, and this is due not only to the extremely small areas of premises in these series of houses. The problem is also that over the course of many years of operation, all elements of the building's structure are pretty worn out and require a special approach when carrying out certain alterations.

However, even such an old apartment can be put in order, bringing it as close as possible to modern standards of living comfort. The task in our time is somewhat simplified by the fact that on the construction market you can find all the necessary materials and tools, plumbing accessories and household appliances.

Problems of repairing premises in "Khrushchev"

The architects who once developed the series of these houses had a specific goal: to provide as many families as possible with separate, albeit very modest, housing. Therefore, one could only dream of maximum comfort, but at that time the tenants who moved into such new apartments had no limit of joy. Today, the demands of new homeowners differ significantly. Therefore, every family that has acquired an apartment in a Khrushchev-built house tries to repair it as soon as possible in order to “squeeze the maximum out” of the available conditions.

So, the difficulties in carrying out repairs in the bathrooms of houses of these series consist in the following points:

  • One of the problems faced by the owners of such a similar housing is the old one, designed only to install a small bathtub, toilet bowl, sink, and sometimes a gas water heater in it. Or it is divided, but its premises are so small that it is difficult even for a person of quite normal build to turn around in them. Nowadays, due to the increased needs of homeowners, the bathroom cannot do without various cabinets or shelves for cosmetic accessories, as well as household chemicals. In addition, many owners are trying to find a place to accommodate a washing machine.

  • The second problem that awaits new residents of old apartments is the dilapidated state of communication highways, since the "youngest" houses of the Khrushchev layout are no less than 40 years old. Therefore, pipes, both sewer and water pipes, need to be replaced without any options. If you make a beautiful repair, leaving the old highways intact, then all efforts to equip the premises will most likely come to naught quickly enough, since leaks will begin to occur in one or another place of the wiring. Therefore, if a major overhaul is already being undertaken, then it is better not to save on this and update all engineering communications without exception.
  • The third problem is uneven, crumbling walls, which, at best, are tiled with low-quality ceramic tiles, and at worst, they are completely painted with oil paint in eerie green or blue shades. Therefore, in order to tidy up such surfaces and achieve the aesthetic effect of the new cladding, you will have to make a lot of efforts to process and level them.

But all these obstacles on the way to comfort and coziness are quite surmountable even for a family with an average income.

Bathroom project

General rules for drawing up a project

In order to get the desired result and not make mistakes, before purchasing all the materials necessary for the renovation, you need to have an idea of how the renovated bathroom will look like. For this, it makes sense to work hard on a future project. Moreover, it is desirable to make even several options, sequentially "trying on" for a specific area, various forms of baths or shower cabins. After making sure that the project fully meets the needs of the family, you can proceed to the next preparatory stages.

There are several options for rebuilding the bathroom, which are often used by the owners of "Khrushchev":

  • The first option is the simplest, and consists in rearranging the plumbing accessories so that the available space is used most efficiently.

  • Second option. If the toilet and bathroom are separated, then you can combine them into one room, which will increase the choice of design and placement of everything you need by increasing the total area.

  • The third option is more complicated, but also possible for implementation - this is the expansion of the bathroom at the expense of the corridor or hallway, if their area allows. How to expand the area, attracting the not so necessary space of the corridor room, will depend on the layout of the apartment.

However, it must be remembered that any redevelopment in an apartment of a multi-storey building, associated with the dismantling or erection of walls, requires coordination with the organizations controlling the operation of buildings. Therefore, if a decision is made to carry out such actions, you will have to go through difficult procedures to legitimize the planned actions.

Unauthorized redevelopment of apartment premises is unacceptable!

Unskilled actions can dramatically reduce the strength of building structures, disrupt the integrity or efficiency of engineering communications, endanger the lives of all residents of the house. What needs to be done and who should be contacted with these questions is detailed in the article on our website.

Some Tips to Help with Bathroom Planning

If you do not want to violate administrative legislation and do not want to get involved with bureaucratic obstacles, then in order to expand the available space, you can use other methods.

Experienced designers are able to turn even a small bathroom into a comfortable room for use, rationally using every centimeter of area and special techniques. In addition, some manufacturers of modern household appliances and plumbing fixtures do not lag behind designers in their developments, providing for the installation of their products in the most unexpected places. It also saves a lot of space in a cramped room.

Naturally, given the large weight of the device and considerable vibration loads, the strength of the brackets or the base of the niche must correspond to it.

Another design that allows you to save space is a built-in wall or a closed finish. The advantage of this complex is a narrow water tank, which is half the width of a conventional flush device. And as a result, the toilet located directly on the wall will take up much less precious space.

Of the design techniques that are acceptable for small bathrooms:

  • Play of colors. Light and white shades will visually make the space more voluminous.
  • If a heating radiator is installed in the bathroom, it makes sense to change it to one that has a more presentable look and is more practical for this room.

  • The space under the bathroom can be used very functionally, especially since this will facilitate the task of decorating it. For this purpose, special shelves-screens are sold, which not only decorate such a problem area with aesthetic doors, but also allow it to be used rationally. If there are no such products in specialized stores, a creative owner will be able to make such a screen on his own. For example, by making a reliable frame and revetting it with plastic clapboard.

  • The sink practically does not take up space if it is placed above the bathroom, choosing the shapes of these plumbing fixtures that are well suited to each other.
  • In some cases, it makes sense to abandon the sink altogether, that is, to use a bathtub while washing. But this will not be the most convenient option. And not the most practical in terms of care.
  • Mirrors will help to visually expand the space. In a small room, one large mirror will be enough, in which the opposite wall of the room will be reflected. And it, in turn, is best tiled with tiles with floral ornaments.

  • A suspended glass ceiling with lighting and spatial patterns will also help make the room visually much larger.
  • To make the room look more spacious, the standard size bath can be changed to a more compact version. Fortunately, today there is no problem with offering these accessories in a wide assortment both in shape and in material of manufacture. In addition, a small shower cabin is suitable for this purpose, which will add a modern accent to the interior. If a bathtub is necessary for bathing children or washing, then you can choose a shower cabin with a deep tray.
  • You should not plan to install any large-sized pieces of furniture in the bathroom, since even one of their appearance will make the room small.

When drawing up a project, all efforts should be directed to maximize the preservation of free space. Having chosen an option suitable for organizing the space, it is best to perform it in color. This is important - the shades of the cladding play a significant role in interior design.

Materials for cladding surfaces in the bathroom

For bathroom wall cladding, several types of materials are suitable that meet the criteria for this room. These qualities include moisture resistance, safety, ease of cleaning their surfaces, as well as aesthetics of appearance.

  • The most affordable material for walls and rooms is moisture resistant paint. But it must be applied on a perfectly flat and smooth surface, otherwise the proper design effect will not work.

It is not necessary to make the surfaces solid. You can choose several colors that work well with each other and apply them in the form of squares, stripes or other stylized designs.

Another option would be a roll-up pattern on a painted plain surface.

However, for leveling work, certain costs will also be required. Therefore, when choosing paint for cladding, in pursuit of the goal of saving money, it is still worth calculating all the costs. That is, including the cost of work to bring the foundation to perfect condition.

  • Another budget finishes are those that have recently become more and more popular. This is due to the affordability of the price, ease of installation and a variety of decorative design. The cladding does not require perfect smoothness of the surface, but it must be flat and strong. This will allow you not to install the crate, which will reduce the area of the room, and the panels will have to be fixed directly to the wall, fixing them with glue.

This material is also suitable for arranging a suspended ceiling, the frame of which will level the surface and hide some communication details.

  • More expensive, but also more durable material for wall and floor cladding in the bathroom is ceramic tile. She remains in the top of popularity for more than a dozen years. Today, the range of ceramic finishes is so great that sometimes it is difficult to choose it. Therefore, it is worth trying several color options in the project. Then it will be easier to navigate the store, choosing the optimal collection.

To tile surfaces with ceramic tiles, they will also have to be tidied up. Experienced craftsmen are able to smooth out small deformations of the planes of walls and floors with the help of tiles, adjusting the direction of the masonry by uneven application of tile glue.

The advantage of this material is the ability to impart good waterproofing qualities to the surface. But this effect can only be achieved with high-quality masonry and the use of a hydrophobic strong

  • For finishing the ceiling surface in bathrooms, innovative tensioning systems are increasingly used, which are distinguished by the highest variety of decorative design - from monochromatic desired shades to photographs with excellent image resolution. Thanks to such a wide assortment, the stretch fabric can be matched to the wall cladding made of any material and having different colors. Their advantage can be called their high moisture resistance. A well-stretched canvas not only does not allow evaporation to the main overlap, but in the event of an emergency it can retain water that has spilled onto it from above, thereby preventing catastrophic consequences for the rest of the finish.
  • For the bathroom floor, a self-leveling one is perfect, which performs several functions at once - levels, waterproofs and decorates the surface. The cost of pouring such a floor is quite high, but it can be called “eternal” without much exaggeration, since it will not lose its qualities under any external influence. The coating is made on the basis of epoxy resins, which are considered an environmentally friendly material.

If you want to save as much as possible on repair work, you need to choose those types of them, the installation of which can be handled by yourself, having studied the relevant instructions.

After it has been determined which materials will be used to level surfaces and their cladding, relying on the previously drawn up project, in which the exact parameters of the room must be set with the arrangement of all the necessary materials, you can proceed to calculating everything necessary for the repair.

Stages of repair work - step by step

In this section of the article, the stages of repair work will be considered with a brief description of their implementation. Having studied this information, you can determine whether it is possible to carry out the reconstruction of the premises on your own, or it is better to invite professionals.

So, a few words must be said about the peculiarities of bathrooms in Khrushchev-built houses, which have not undergone redevelopment and major repairs for a long time, sometimes even since the beginning of their operation.

As a rule, the walls of the premises are still faced with tiles from the Soviet era, the surface of which is covered with small cracks and chips, and some of the finishing elements have completely fallen off. The towel dryer is an ordinary steel pipe bent into a U-shaped loop, which is connected to the riser with unsightly looking welds, often leaking.

The wall separating the bathroom and the kitchen is equipped with the notorious, for some unknown reason, a necessary window, which many owners previously covered with a matte film or, removing the glass, covered the opening with plywood.

As a rule, they have a terrifying look. Sometimes, when they are dismantled, they simply fall apart in the hands, since during the operation their internal ones have become thinner under the action of corrosion and have lost all strength.

The plaster of the walls, especially in their lower part, under the constant influence of moisture, lost its strength and began to flake off and crumble, therefore, dirt constantly appears on the floor in the form of a cement-sandy wet mass.

If the bathroom is in this condition, then a major overhaul in it is simply necessary. In order to save money, repair work can be done by hand, picking up materials with affordable prices, which are abundant in hardware stores today.

IllustrationBrief description of the operations performed
Bathroom renovation begins by shutting off the water supply.
Then - a rather dirty and hard work to free up space from plumbing accessories that have served their purpose. The dismantled bathtub, toilet bowl and sink are removed from the room and usually melted into the scrap once, otherwise the rest of the work will be very difficult.
The next step is to clean the wall and floor surfaces of old tiles or other decorative coating.
The tile can be easily removed using a perforator, into which a special chisel attachment is installed. There is no such tool - you can also remove it manually.
Usually this stage of work is straightforward and takes place quickly. True, there will be plenty of garbage, and so will the hard work of removing it to the landfill.
If the walls are planned to be leveled using ordinary "wet" plaster, then after removing the decorative coating on the surface, it is recommended to apply incisions. Most often, the notches are made with an ax.
The old coating, as well as the debris formed during the application of the notches, should be immediately removed from the room, since the deposits of the bags will become a serious obstacle to the further process of arranging the bathroom.
Further, the water supply and sewer pipes are dismantled.
Quite often, after assessing the condition of the main section of the sewage system, it is necessary to remove it completely. To carry out this work, you will have to make peace and agree with the lower and upper neighbors, since the new pipe will need to be cut into the common building mainline, and the connection of the riser elements, as a rule, is located just below the ceiling surface or 200 ÷ 250 mm above the floor.
When removing the pipe, a through hole is necessarily formed in the floor slab, which will subsequently need to be repaired.
In any case, it is best to change the entire riser at once.
If the hole turned out to be wide, then after installing the pipe, installing the formwork from below, pour it with concrete mortar.
Small gaps left around the pipe can be easily filled with polyurethane foam.
It is important to correctly calculate the installation height in the new riser of the tee, with the help of which a toilet bowl and a drain pipe will be connected to it - a line from the bathroom, sink and kitchen sink.
The next step is to replace the water pipes.
The old wiring is removed completely and a new one is installed, for which metal-plastic or polypropylene pipes are most often used.
If you plan to hide all the "beauty" of the wiring, then punches are cut into the wall, into which the pipes will be hidden. It is necessary to deepen the pipes so that their outer side is at least flush with the main surface of the wall.
If in the future the surface is planned to be leveled with gypsum plasterboards, then when cutting channels for installing pipes, it is necessary to take into account the thickness of this "dry plaster" (12 mm), that is, make the punches not too deep.
The process of replacing any pipes is quite difficult for a beginner, and if there is no experience in plumbing installation, then it would be better to invite an experienced specialist who can make a reliable tight connection of both the sewer riser section and the plumbing pipes.
If you plan to install a washing machine in the bathroom, or simply increase the number of outlets by spreading them to different places, then penalties are also arranged for installing wiring in the surfaces of the walls and ceiling.
You do not have to scrape the floor slab if the design provides for the construction of a suspended ceiling, which will hide all the unsightly electrical wiring.
For fire safety purposes, all electrical cables should be wrapped in a special corrugated conduit.
Before proceeding to the next stage of work, the surfaces of the room should be strengthened with a deep penetration primer with an antiseptic effect.
The composition is applied with a roller in two or sometimes three layers, each of which requires good drying.
Well, if old spots of mold are clearly visible on the walls, then you will have to first carry out "treatment" with potent compounds, then carry out a thorough cleaning of these foci, and then - perform priming.
If the walls of the bathroom are in a deplorable state, they will have to be worked on by leveling them with plaster mortar or "dry plaster" (drywall).
If a simpler, second option is chosen, then it is necessary to choose an extremely moisture-resistant drywall and should be fixed directly on the wall using special mounting glue. Some craftsmen use polyurethane foam with a low expansion coefficient to fix the sheets. The use of this technology for installing drywall is possible if the unevenness of the walls is no more than 20 ÷ 30 mm.
When leveling the walls, a box is usually installed immediately, covering the vertically located pipes of the riser.
If the communication lines are already located in a niche, then it is also recommended to close it with plasterboard, fixing it flush with the main surface of the wall.
To equip a drywall box, you will need to mount a frame structure made of a galvanized metal profile around the riser pipes.
When installing it, do not forget to provide a special inspection window - for access to water meters and taps that shut off the water supply.
Aligned walls (no matter whether it is drywall or ordinary plaster) should be well primed again.
In order not to waste time, the primer can be applied to the surface before installing the false ceiling frame.
While the walls are being prepared for further finishing, you can start installing the frame sheathing for the suspended ceiling.
The frame can be made from a 30 × 40 mm bar or a galvanized metal profile. Here it is necessary to take into account that the profile will be cheaper, but it is easier to fix the panel ceiling to the wooden elements of the sheathing.
With the help of the frame, you can not only mask the electrical wiring, but also level the surface of the ceiling if it is not even enough. Therefore, before starting to fix it, it is necessary to make markings on the walls and beat off lines along it, which will also become the upper level for wall cladding.
Some craftsmen prefer to finish the walls first, and then mount the ceiling. In this case, the sequence does not matter much, since the joint between the vertical and horizontal surfaces will be closed with a decorative corner or ceiling plinth.
The next step is to level the floor.
Before proceeding with these works, the floors should also be primed with a compound, best of all, with the effect of penetrating waterproofing.
When the soil dries out, around the entire perimeter of the room, a damper tape is placed at the junction of the floor and walls, the width of which should be 25 ÷ 30 mm greater than the thickness of the future leveling screed. This material is designed to compensate for the required space for the solidified mortar during its thermal expansion.
If the floors are relatively even, then a self-leveling floor with a waterproofing effect can be used to level the floor.
If a steel bathtub was purchased for installation for reasons of economy, then while the self-leveling self-leveling floor dries, you can work to improve its characteristics.
In order for the water collected in the metal bath to maintain a high temperature for a long time, as well as to reduce the noise level from the water entering it, polyurethane foam is applied to the outside with an average expansion coefficient.
It is not difficult to apply this layer, it will slightly increase the weight of the product, but will add comfort during its operation.
When the screed is dry and ready for tiling, markings are applied to its surface for laying tiles. It is better to start the installation of this material from the door of the room, so it will be possible to avoid a large number of cut elements that will be in plain sight.
It is recommended to use embossed floor tiles for tiling the floor, as it is safer for the bathroom - less slippery when wet.
Seams between large tiles should be 5 ÷ 7 mm wide. Compliance with the uniform thickness of the joints is achieved by installing special plastic cross-calibrators between ceramic products, or special elements of tile leveling systems.
The period of solidification of the tile adhesive before the possibility of movement on the coating is indicated by the manufacturer on the package. After waiting this time, you can proceed to grouting the joints between the tiles.
The joints are filled with a compound specially designed for this purpose, which, when hardened, guarantees the waterproofing of the coating.
Grout usually dries for about a day. After that, you can proceed to wall cladding, which can also be produced with ceramic tiles or PVC panels.
Before you start finishing the wall, it must be marked by determining the height of the bath - this will be the line from which the cladding of vertical surfaces usually begins. And even better - so that the seam is about 20 ÷ 30 mm below the level of the bathroom - then it will not constantly get wet.
Very often, in order to save money, the owners do not lay tiles at all on the walls hidden by the bathroom, although experienced craftsmen strongly recommend doing this. For example, you can use old finishing material for this purpose, even if it has an unpresentable appearance. This is not scary - it will be assigned not so much a decorative as a protective function.
To simplify the task, a guide profile is fixed along the broken line, on which the first row of tiles will rest.
It is clear that the guide is fixed temporarily, and it is removed after the glue under the tiles on the upper part of the wall has completely solidified.
Tile laying usually starts from the corner of the bathroom that first catches the eye when entering the room.
To determine whether it will be possible to lay out a row of whole tiles, they should be placed on a guide, observing equal seams, the width of which should be 1.5 ÷ 2 mm. however, all this can be calculated in advance on the diagram.
If the row will consist of not only solid tiles, but also cut tiles, then it is better to place them in a less noticeable area of the wall.
It happens that it is possible to do without cutting the tiles by using decorative inserts of the required width.
But this, too, should be thought out in advance, and not spontaneously, during installation.
Installation is carried out on tile adhesive, which is applied to the walls (some prefer tiles) and spread with a notched trowel. Having tiled the front wall, you can proceed to laying tiles on the side surfaces, also starting from the corner. We will not talk a lot about this, since a separate very detailed article of our portal is devoted to the process in the bathroom.
It is quite difficult, due to inexperience, to cut round holes in the tile for sockets, pipe penetrations. About how it is correctly described in detail in the article on our site dedicated to this topic.
The opening for the inspection window is closed with a special door with a secure frame and an easy-to-open sash. You can "plant" this part on the glue "liquid nails".
At the same stage, you can install the sockets.
The next step in this example is to sheathe the frame of the suspended ceiling with PVC panels.
The joint between the tiles and panels can be arranged in two ways - by fixing a starting profile along the perimeter of the crate, into which the edges of the panels are inserted, or after fixing the lining to the joint, a decorative plastic corner or plinth is fixed with "liquid nails".
Before installing the panels into which the lighting fixtures will be built, marking is made on them, and holes of the required size are cut out along it. They can be cut with a knife or with an electric drill with a “crown” attachment of the required diameter.
After the glue and grout of the cladding is completely dry, all plumbing accessories are installed and connected to the water and sewer lines.
The first to take its place is the bathtub, as it still has to be worked on, covering the unsightly space below.
This work also begins with markup. On the surface of the floor, under the outer edge of the bath, a line is bounced along which the guide profile is mounted.
Then, vertical posts are fixed to the opposite walls, which are installed in a metal profile in the lower part of the frame being created.
Further, the resulting structure is covered with an upper horizontal profile, after which the crate is reinforced with additional three to four vertical posts. Additionally, they can be tied together with a middle profile fixed to the uprights from the inside.
Instead of metal profiles, an antiseptic treated wooden bar can be used to create a frame.
In this version, an inspection window is provided in the bath casing for monitoring the siphon.
If you plan to equip such an opening, then it must be provided at the stage of creating the frame.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe finished frame is sheathed with moisture-resistant plasterboard, which is attached to the profiles using self-tapping screws for metal. After that, the surface of the sheathing is covered with a primer and dried.
The final stage of laying the tiles is to cover the plasterboard screen under the bathroom with it.
When the screen is equipped, it remains to install the toilet, fixing it to the floor with special fasteners that come with it in the kit with the product, and at the same time connecting it to the sewer.
Then it is necessary to install the sink, connect the faucets, the cistern and other plumbing equipment. Mirror, hangers and other necessary accessories are hung up.
A towel dryer is connected to the hot water supply pipes brought out to the wall surface, which is hung on brackets specially fixed on the wall.

As a result, the "dry" bathroom in the old Khrushchev will acquire "new youth".

And, traditionally, at the end of the publication - a small video showing another option for repairing a bathroom in "Khrushchev"

Video: An example of a bathroom renovation in Khrushchev

Khrushchev is not an ideal apartment in terms of size and layout. But do not underestimate her: at one time she was the only opportunity for many of the communal apartment to move to a separate home.

The current generations of the owners of the Khrushchev houses are inherited from their grandmothers and grandfathers. And in the secondary housing market, these apartments are relatively inexpensive, although they are great for a small family or newlyweds. After all, even a small apartment can be made cozy with some effort. Start renovating the bathroom in Khrushchev, and make sure that these words are true.

The purpose of the construction of Khrushchev's buildings is clear and understandable: it was necessary to build as much housing as possible in a short time in order to provide them with Soviet citizens. Therefore, the layout of the apartments was standard, providing for a minimum amount of usable space for each family member. This housing was originally budgetary, without extra space and decorations.

The lack of bathroom space in Khrushchev is perhaps the most significant minus of the room, but this problem can and should be solved

Small bathroom areas are not a reason for frustration. Even with these shortcomings, it is quite possible to end up with a fully functional and beautiful space.

The main problems that arise with the new owners of Khrushchev are as follows:

  • Small area of the room. The area of the combined bathroom in Khrushchev allowed only the most minimal equipment to be in it: a bath, a toilet, a sink and a gas water heater. Over time, when the financial capabilities of the tenants of the apartment increased, there was a need for a washing machine, shelves and space for storing cosmetics and household chemicals. Placing everything you need in the bathroom without overloading a tiny room is a difficult task.
  • Decay of engineering communications. The houses of the Khrushchev layout were built up to 1985. It turns out that the newest of them are more than 30 years old. All engineering structures in houses have long been in need of, if not replacement, then at least major repairs. When carrying out repairs, it is advisable to replace all the wiring, since old communications can negate all efforts to improve the premises.
  • Uneven surfaces. Khrushchev's houses were built in a hurry, which means that the quality of the work performed did not really matter. If now, for example, to tile the walls with tiles, then you will have to pre-align the curved walls, deduce corners and perform other similar work.

All these problems are not a reason to refuse a purchase. They can be overcome. Read how to do this in this article.

Old pipes have long served their purpose and require replacement with lightweight and durable plastic, which can be mounted even by one

We make a design project for a future bathroom

In order to have a good idea of what the renovated bathroom will be like, a design project should be developed. At this stage, you can, for example, provide for the possibility of redevelopment.

Possible redevelopment options

There are several redevelopment options that are popular with the owners of Khrushchev:

  • Option 1: Combine a separate bathroom by combining a toilet and a bathroom. In this case, the total area of the room will increase due to the destroyed wall.
  • Option # 2: If the area of the corridor allows for redevelopment, expand the bathroom at his expense.

If for some reason the owners of the Khrushchev do not want to get involved with the redevelopment, you can use other methods of visually expanding the space.

Redevelopment is one of the methods of increasing the space of the bathroom. The problem is that in Khrushchev and the corridor is not very large.

Some design tricks

Some people think that in the small room of the Khrushchev bathroom, designers literally have nowhere to turn around with their ideas. But this is not the case. On the contrary, the more difficult the task is, the brighter the skill of the specialist is manifested. Therefore, it is worth listening to their advice, it may very well be that they will be useful to you.

For example, so that the washing machine does not overload the bathroom with its presence, you can install it in the kitchen. Another option: if the size of the machine allows, you can place it under the sink. There is a third variant of placement, but for this they use special models of washing machines, which are called "flop". You can place the "flop" on the podium above the toilet by combining the toilet sink and cistern.

The washing machine, which was drained into the toilet cistern, looks unusual. Its loading hatch is higher than usual, but this can be considered an advantage when loading laundry.

White and light shades of other colors always make the room look slightly larger than it actually is. Don't overuse white, but this effect also needs to be used to its fullest.

If you place a small washing machine under the sink of the washbasin, then this will significantly save the free space of the room, but usually this space is occupied by a cabinet.

An interesting and modern solution is the installation, thanks to which you can hang the bidet and toilet. You quickly get used to an unusual design: the main thing is to realize that a wall mount can withstand a weight of up to 200 kg and it is absolutely reliable. A toilet without a bottom support and placed closer than usual to the wall provides a comfortable position and takes up less space.

A wall-hung toilet with vertical flush saves space too. By the way, it is more convenient to wash under it, and it itself becomes more compact.

Some more design goodies:

  • A not too aesthetic heating radiator can be easily replaced with a heated towel rail. It looks more modern, compact and practical.
  • If the bath still remains, you can use the space under it as a cabinet for household chemicals. It is very convenient - everything you need is at hand and out of sight.
  • You can remove the sink, limiting yourself to only one tap, from which water will drain into the bath or shower.
  • Mirrors in all forms are a classic design technique that can easily transform a room, changing it beyond recognition.
  • You can decorate not only walls with mirrors. The shiny surface of a glossy stretch ceiling is also an option for receiving reflection. Stretch ceilings have waterproofing properties that are necessary for rooms with high humidity. In addition, they will help to hide the upper level of communication.
  • Typically, a massive old bathtub takes up a lot of space. You should think about whether it can be replaced with a modern shower cubicle or at least a corner model. If you need a bathtub for washing and bathing babies, and a shower for older family members, then you can use combined compact products. Such a replacement saves a significant amount of space.
  • It is important not to overload this compact room with furniture. Therefore, the main concept of your design project should be a reasonable space saving.

And also a few tips from the designer can be seen in this video:

Choosing a material for finishing

The cheapest option is waterproof paint combined with a color scheme that can be used to paint the walls. By varying the dosage of the color, you can achieve the perfect match to the desired color. But the whole impression of painting can be spoiled by uneven walls, which must first be leveled.

The most popular bathroom design is tile. There are plenty of reasons for choosing this durable, easy to clean and very beautiful material.

Using finishing with plastic panels, you can achieve a quick result without perfect alignment of the walls. The advantage of this material is the variety of colors and ease of installation. But the panels are short-lived and have to be replaced from time to time.

Most often, ceramic and tile tiles are used to decorate the walls and floor in the bathroom. The tiles are varied both in shape and design. In addition, it is durable and has the waterproofing properties necessary for a bathroom. Glazed light tiles visually expand the room.

Tiles can be used to cover not only the walls of the bathroom, but also its floor. For the floor, it is better to use a material that does not slip.

Non-slip tiles are the ultimate bathroom flooring material. In addition to it, you can use waterproof laminate or linoleum. White paint or plastic panels are often used to decorate the ceiling.

But the stretch ceiling is a worthy competitor to these materials. Its advantages have already been discussed above.

Repair work

Preparatory stage

You need to start repairs by performing dismantling work. We clean bathroom surfaces to be free to fantasize when designing a project.

So, we shut off the hot and cold water, after which you can start dismantling the old plumbing. Then you should disassemble the water and sewer pipes.

To dismantle old tiles, you can use not only a hammer drill, but also a hammer and chisel. This work is simple, but dusty - stock up on a respirator

You should also get rid of the old finishing coat. If the walls have been painted, a metal brush will help remove the paint from them. To remove the tiles, you need a perforator, it is also useful for leveling the floor: the screed must be knocked down to the concrete itself. At this preparatory stage is completed, and you can proceed to the sequential execution of repair work.

This video will help you get a general idea of what to do next. It will help you gain faith that even a tiny room can become the bathroom of your dreams:

Replacing pipes and wiring

Having a ready-made design project, we receive a layout plan for all equipment. It is he who allows you to make the correct piping.

Old pipes, which have already served their purpose, were made of cast iron. If possible, they should be replaced with plastic ones. Plastic is lighter than cast iron, and these materials are not inferior in strength to each other. To fix the pipes, you must either grind the walls, or fix the pipes to their surface using special plastic clips.

Modern pipes are easy to install. Usually, for them, grooves are either grooved in the walls of the room, or they are fixed in special clips made of plastic.

When laying sewer pipes, one must not forget about the slope, the height of which should be 10-20 mm per 1 running meter. One way to achieve the desired parameters is to increase the thickness of the concrete floor screed.

In order not to depend on the central water supply, it is necessary to install a straight-through valve at the point where the pipes are connected to the riser. This will allow you to independently turn off hot and cold water.

Pay special attention to wiring. The walls will have to be grooved under the electric wires, which means that this work will also have to be done before finishing work begins. The sockets must be placed in accordance with the design project.

Taking into account the specifics of the room, double sockets with the appropriate protection class should be used. The switch is placed outside the bathroom. If there are many electrical appliances in the room, it is necessary to provide for their protective shutdown.

Leveling walls and floors

After dismantling the concrete screed, all debris and dust must be carefully removed. Then the waterproofing should be laid with a wall grip of 15 cm. Now you can fill in a new screed.

The bathroom is specific - you always want to finish repairs in it ahead of schedule in order to return to the normal rhythm of life

The walls and floor in the Khrushchev bathroom are rarely even, therefore, armed with high-quality cement-based plaster, we get to work. After rough leveling, dry walls should be treated with a putty.

If you use drywall to level the walls, then the wall, of course, will also be flat. But the area of the room will decrease, and this is better not to be allowed.

Working with ceramic tiles

A building level and a plumb line are useful for working with tiles. With their help, the walls will have to be marked by drawing vertical and horizontal lines on them, imitating tiles.

Tile adhesive should only be applied to the section of the wall on which the work will be performed. The applied glue should be embossed with a spatula with teeth.

Working with ceramic tiles is not as difficult as beginners think. It is important not to rush and lay it as neatly as possible, then the result will please you.

The tile is applied and lightly pressed against the wall. The distance between the individual tiles is controlled using special plastic crosses. Upon completion of the work and after the glue has dried, the inter-tile space is filled with a trowel compound.

You can have a tile. You can use alternating colors in vertical or horizontal stripes, laying in zones in the form of rectangles, squares, frames, rhombuses, etc. Sometimes they use mirror inserts with and without backlights. The options are endless.

Choosing the “right” doors

The final stage in the repair of a bathroom in Khrushchev is the installation of a high-quality and reliable door.

The ventilation holes in the doors allow you to regulate the microclimate in the bathroom: even in a room with high humidity, it should not be constantly wet

When making a choice, pay special attention to the following points:

  • A bathroom is a room characterized by high humidity, therefore a new door should not react to this factor and to a change in temperature regimes. It must be durable.
  • Choose a model that has reliable thermal and sound insulation.
  • The room will often be used, locking and unlocking the door, therefore the door handle and its lock should be as reliable and durable as possible.
  • An air vent or small gap between the door and the floor will help prevent moisture build-up and mold and mildew in the room.

Most often, doors made of chipboard, wood, plastic and tempered glass are used for the bathroom. But whatever the material you choose, the main thing is that a trusted manufacturer is responsible for the quality of this product. In this case, the door will serve for a long time and will not cause complaints from the owners.

Bathroom doors can be very different. This is the usual swing, exotic folding, as well as sliding, which we see in this photo.

If you approach the choice from the point of view of saving space for the bathroom itself and the corridor adjacent to it, you can pay attention not only to swing models, but also to sliding and folding ones. There are also pendulum models that can swing open in both directions from the opening. A conventional swing door should not open inward, but outward.

It occurs at the final stage of the renovation. With the completion of this work, we can say that the repair is completely completed.

There are many Khrushchevs in the country today. Previously, people were less picky in design, and it was enough for them that the necessary attributes were available in the apartment. But today tastes have changed. Almost all tenants are dissatisfied with the layout bathroom in Khrushchev.

Due to the uncomplicated design, it is sometimes impossible to place the necessary plumbing equipment in this room. Sometimes you even have to sacrifice something for the sake of comfort. The scanty dimensions of the room do not allow the imagination to go wild, therefore each element is carefully thought out in order to make the best use of the space.
Superfluous elements are excluded. Better if the bathtub is combined with a toilet, and even captures a section of the corridor. In a separate bathroom, the situation is even more complicated. Therefore, the combined layout becomes an option that expands the possibilities for placing the necessary elements. Additional costs will be required for rework. But, this will allow you to place everything you need and divide the space into zones.

Bathroom design in Khrushchev

Another problem is the location of the communications. Often you have to do the wiring and hide the pipes in the walls. Then the surface is also leveled (the builders at that time did not try very hard in this direction). Sometimes it's even better to break and rebuild the wall yourself than to straighten the original one.

Before thinking over the design, they make accurate measurements of the room. Then they search magazines and the Internet for ready-made interior solutions with the given parameters, after which they start developing their own design. The question of where to locate the main plumbing equipment is being resolved. Then they think over the decoration elements, choosing shelves, cabinets and so on.

Plumbing manufacturers know what problems the residents of Khrushchevs face. Therefore, they develop equipment suitable for small dimensions.
Think about the bath first. Old cast iron - today, residents seem too bulky for such a small room. But, the corner version will take up much less space, freeing up space for other details. And in some houses, they refuse to take a bath altogether. Instead of them, shower cabins are installed.
Saves space and attachments: toilets and sinks ... They are attached directly to the wall. Such details will allow you to rationally calculate the design of the bathroom.

Saves space and attachments: toilets and sinks

In some cases, if it is impossible to combine a separate bathroom, they refuse from the washbasin and install taps above the bathroom.
All details are selected in miniature sizes. Furniture items of specified non-standard dimensions are ordered if the store does not have them.

Consider separately the methods of finishing the ceiling, walls and floor.

Tiles or mosaics are traditionally used for wall decoration.

In a square-shaped room, the main elements are placed in the corners.... Then the space in the center remains free. The same placement is done in the case of choosing a shower cabin instead of a bath.
A person should feel free being in any position. It is necessary to ensure that it is comfortable to stand, sit or do the cleaning. This will help the niches for the legs, allowing you to get as close to the bath as possible.

If the bathroom is combined, then they adhere to the standard gaps between the installed elements and surfaces. So, the free space in front of the bathroom is made from 70 to 100 centimeters for easy entry and exit. Set up towel racks so that they can be easily reached from the bathtub. The distance between the toilet bowl, wall and other objects should be at least 20 centimeters, and 40 centimeters were kept in front of the toilet. The sink is located 25 centimeters from the toilet and 20 centimeters from the side wall. In front of it must be kept from 70 centimeters of free space.
Access to communications is hidden, but left free.

In a square-shaped room, the main elements are placed in the corners.

Design novelty in the case of a rectangular shape, it is installed at the end of the font room... Then the sink is located next to the exit, and the toilet is farther from the entrance.
More often bathroom in Khrushchev equipped with a shower instead of a bath. Moreover, ready-made shower cabins give way to fenced areas in the floor. Such a shower is compact, devoid of high sides and minimizes the risk of flooding neighbors. The only nuance to which you need to adjust: the floor will be about ten centimeters higher. This is necessary to install the drain. It is fenced off from the rest of the room with a glass partition. The best option for this is transparent sliding doors.

Competent room design includes well-thought-out pieces of furniture. Designers suggest abandoning lockers with wide-open doors. Better to choose open shelves or give preference to cabinets with sliding doors. A bathroom washbasin cabinet is an excellent choice. But if it is impossible to install, you will have to equip the hanging version by placing it above the washbasin next to the mirror. Such models don't have to be deep. A tall cabinet looks advantageous - a pencil case.

In addition to the placement of bathroom accessories, this is a good element for dividing the room into zones.
Not only bathroom in Khrushchev differs in small dimensions. The kitchens are also extremely small here. Therefore, most often, the washing machine is located in the bathroom. The technique is chosen in a compact size.

Often the washing machine is installed under the washbasin.

Often the washing machine is installed under the washbasin. built into the wall. Another option is to place her on the podium., over the toilet. For this, there are special washing machines called "flop". With them, in addition to space, water is saved, since the equipment is installed in an integrated way with a drain barrel.

Color solutions can visually enlarge the space. This is helped by the alternation of colors. For example, dark inserts are added to light tiles. Thanks to the mosaic on the ledges, they look more compact.

Light shades make the space larger, and combinations with dark ones deeper. Mirror surfaces seem to push the walls apart. Suspended plumbing increases the space freed up by the open floor. Austere lines can remove the feeling of clutter.

The general background is best done in a neutral color. Then one of the walls is highlighted with a bright shade. At the same time, a rich "stain" is created with the help of additional elements: a rug, a bath curtain or a laundry basket.

Color solutions can visually enlarge the space

It is desirable that bathroom in Khrushchev had several light sources. The upper one is standardly mounted in the ceiling. Floor lighting is provided below. It is able to give the room a special gloss. But he is rarely chosen. It is more appropriate to place the side light above the mirror. You need to achieve a bright, uniform light. Additional lighting can be installed in the shower and niche.

A mirror must be installed in this room. It is more convenient to place it above the washbasin. In this case, it is not necessary to strictly supplement the plumbing fixture. The mirror can be irregular, longer or wider than the sink. In the shower, mirrors are also installed on the walls. The main thing is that they are not located one opposite the other. If the bathroom has a window, then the mirror is installed opposite. It should also hang in front of the entrance.

White bathroom

The effect of infinity will be obtained if you decorate the wall with a drawing with a perspective (a sailing ship), or simulate a panorama (opening in a window). Experiment, develop your artistic ability and use your creative imagination.

Conclusion

Knowbathroom in Khrushchev - not a sentence... If you think over everything to the smallest detail, correctly arrange plumbing and furniture, insert decorative elements, the design will turn out to be beautiful and modern. In a small room, elegance is achieved that sets the tone for the rest of the rooms. With the right approach, a cramped, uncomfortable bathroom will turn into a favorite place where residents will rest and gain strength for an active and successful day.

Bathroom design in Khrushchev

Bathroom in Khrushchev 46 photo ideas:

It is difficult to imagine an apartment without a bathroom. This is often the first place you want to visit after a hard day at work to relax and wash away all the negativity. Therefore, it is worth paying enough attention to design to make your pastime even more enjoyable.

However, the situation becomes more complicated if the bathroom is located in the Khrushchev, where it is usually very small and cramped. This article provides practical advice on the correct planning and preservation of the bathroom space in the Khrushchev.

The compactness of the bathroom in Khrushchev

It is not so easy to think over the design of a small room and fit all the necessary elements into it. Therefore, it is worth starting repairs by measuring the room using a regular tape measure.

Next, you should look at the ready-made options for bathrooms in Khrushchev apartments on the Internet or at the end of this article. This will allow you to assess the situation visually and help you draw up a floor plan for your room.

You should first think about the arrangement of the main elements, and only then devote time to decorations and interior items, including shelves, small cabinets.

The choice of plumbing is very large today, so it is quite possible to choose the right size for placement in a cramped Khrushchev. Moreover, there is a choice of mounted plumbing, which often also helps to save space.

Corner bathrooms are often used or showers are installed to replace them. If you want to purchase furniture of non-standard sizes, you can always order it by indicating your individual sizes.

It is imperative to make the right measurements, take into account the thickness of the facing materials, decorative finishes, since just a couple of sentiments play a big role, and the furniture simply may not fit.

If you are not sure of the correctness of the measurements, it is better to invite specialists who will make plumbing or make repairs in the bathroom.

Bathroom layout in Khrushchev

Combined bathroom

One of the options to save space is to combine a bathroom and a toilet, when at least an additional 7 sq. m.

In addition, it has a number of other advantages such as:

  • Expanding practical space for more planning comfort.
  • The dimensions of the plumbing can be larger than with a separate solution.
  • Savings on materials due to the absence of the need for additional wall finishing.
  • More convenient and faster cleaning.
  • Increasing the level of aesthetics by hiding the engineering system, placing plumbing according to ergonomic standards.

Zoning the room can be a good solution for a combined bathroom. Of course, it will not be possible to fully perform it in a small room, but this can help to separate the bathroom from the toilet, using a combination of finishing materials.

A glass partition can visually increase the space, which will dissolve into the interior, while performing its main function of separation.

Also, instead of a regular bathroom, a corner one will be more compact.

Shower cabin as an alternative

As you know, a full-fledged bathroom needs a lot of space, and a small and compact bathroom is not always convenient. As an alternative, a shower cubicle will be an excellent practical solution.

Despite the plaque that can form in it, and the weak pressure of water, which makes it difficult to shower. The cab has many advantages, in particular the following:

  • increased space;
  • reduction of water consumption by several times;
  • the formation of additional space for other elements;
  • replacement of old plumbing with a modern one.

The best size for a cabin is 80 x 80 cm, sometimes 90 x 90 cm can be suitable. A large cabin is unlikely to fit in a small Khrushchev, moreover, it will be too bulky.

Washing machine in small bathroom design

Placing a washing machine in a small bathroom is often very difficult. First of all, you need to correctly plan the placement of all plumbing, so that not only everything is placed, but also so that it is as comfortable and convenient as possible.

When choosing a washing machine, it must be remembered that if it is wide, then even with the correct layout, it is unlikely to be able to fit. Therefore, it is important to choose the model with the smallest width, preferably front loading.

The possibility of accommodating a 34 cm wide washing machine without significant redevelopment is also quite possible. In this case, you can use a bowl-shaped washbasin.

On the side of the front door, you should install such a sink along the wall, and to the left of it there will be space for a washing machine. You can even put it under the sink and it will look quite attractive.

It is much easier when the bathroom is combined. This allows you to expand the space and find a place to install this technique. You can put it in front of the toilet, while choosing a vertical load for convenience.

It can also be placed between the bowl and the toilet, or it is possible to organize a special niche for this.

In addition, if the plumbing has not changed for a long time, then, most likely, there are bulky coil pipes in the bathroom, occupying part of the area.

If they are dismantled and replaced with modern ones, then there will be a sufficient amount of free space that can be used to install the washing machine.

Which finish is better to use in Khrushchev in the bathroom

Ceramic tile

For bathroom decoration, ceramic tiles are most often chosen. It is strong, durable, easy to clean and is not afraid of moisture. In addition, today you can find a huge number of different design options from monochromatic colors to all kinds of patterns and patterns.

It is important in this case to choose the optimal tile size. The smallest one measuring 15x15 cm will definitely not work. Due to the large number of seams, the effect of drawing the walls together will be observed, which, on the contrary, will make the room even smaller.

Too large tiles of more than 20x30 cm will make the interior rough and massive, so it is also better to refrain from such a choice. In connection with the above, it is best to stick to the golden mean and use tiles about 20x20 cm.

Advice: when using a rectangular shape, lay the tiles horizontally, as this will visually expand the room.

In addition to size, it is also important to pay attention to the color scheme. First of all, for small rooms it is worth choosing lighter colors, a dark color will further reduce the space, this also applies to overly bright colors.

You need to choose no more than 2-3 basic shades so as not to overdo it with color. If the main part consists of cold shades, then to give comfort it is worth choosing accessories in warm colors.

Conversely, with a predominance of warm shades, it is worth choosing colder colors for accessories. Also, preference should be given to a glossy surface, which can increase the space by reflecting light.

Mosaic and panels in the interior

Mosaic also belongs to ceramic tiles, but it is a special kind of it. It consists of squares that are different in texture and color. The bathroom in Khrushchev must be very carefully decorated with such elements.

It is unacceptable to choose a bright design, as this will make the room even smaller. At the same time, abstract compositions, spatial drawings of wildlife, on the contrary, contribute to an increase in space.

It is better to use panels and mosaics of a small size and not for the entire bathroom. The selection of individual areas, for example, mirrors, the location of the bathroom, will look good.

With regard to the toilet, it would be inappropriate to highlight this area. It is worth remembering that such areas should harmoniously fit in and match the rest of the tile.

Pvc panels

Plastic panels are also popular in bathroom furnishings. This material is also not afraid of moisture and at the same time is more economical in comparison with tiles. Although it is worth noting that in terms of design choice, PVC panels are also inferior to ceramic tiles.

An interesting solution when choosing this material will be the layout of panels of various sizes and designs. A combination of contrasting tones also looks good, but in a small bathroom it is better to stick to lighter shades.

Ceiling and floor

Before laying the flooring on the floor, first cover it with waterproofing and install heating mats, which will ensure a comfortable temperature under all heating conditions.

You can use materials such as ceramic tiles, polymer composition, porcelain stoneware. The tiles are suitable for medium to large sizes. Regarding color, it is best to choose a solid color.

The main nuance in the design of the ceiling is its light color, which is often best to choose white. An excellent solution would be a glossy stretch ceiling, which will reflect light and thus appear taller.

However, ordinary painting is also quite suitable, or you can use suspended plastic structures, fiberglass, slatted ceiling.

Lighting and plumbing

The location of plumbing in the bathroom plays an important role. A small space needs to be used as efficiently as possible to accommodate everything you need.

First of all, you need to choose a bathroom. A regular oval bathroom takes up a lot of space, so you can alternatively install a corner, asymmetrical or rectangular model. Right angles will avoid gap and fill the space as much as possible.

Additional installation of a shower stall together with a bath is unlikely in this case. However, it can replace the bathroom and thereby save even more space. The box should be purchased in corner or rectangular with sliding doors.

The washbasins can also be chosen rectangular or corner. There is a wide selection of wall-hung sinks that can be installed above the bedside table, washing machine.

The toilet should be narrow. You can choose the design when the tank is hidden in a wall or niche.

Cabinets are suitable for wall-mounted or hidden under the washbasin. Free walls or corners can be great for this.

Regarding lighting, it is great to use diode spotlights embedded in the ceiling.

You can hang a small sconce above the mirror.

Another good option would be a flexible strip of light, both on the ceiling and on the walls.

Thus, with the use of the correct layout and design solutions, even a small bathroom in a Khrushchev can be compactly and beautifully arranged. The main thing is to think over everything in advance and choose small-sized plumbing. From the color scheme, you should not use dark tones or bulky bright drawings and patterns.
