Does the bridge to Crimea work? Kerch Rotenberg Bridge

The whole Crimea is looking forward to the main event of the year - the launch of the first part of the Construction of the Century... And the closer the summer is, the more often we are interested in the question - when will the Crimean bridge, or rather its road part, open? In this article, we tried to collect all the useful and official information regarding the construction of the century, weed out myths, and also give our opinion on how the opening of the bridge will affect the life of the Crimeans.

Crimean bridge - when is it opening?

Somewhere from the end of April, we were already ready that the Bridge was about to be officially opened. First, they talked about the May holidays, then about May 9 and the opening on Victory Day. However, these were all rather “popular speculations”, and there were no official statements. The other day on the pages of the Crimean bridge in social networks, a post about myths about the Crimean bridge, including the opening dates, appeared.

As it turned out, the official opening is planned in the second half of May... In order to weed out existing myths and prevent future ones, we made a visual infographic about the planned dates for the opening of different parts of the bridge, including the road.

Recently in the media there was new information about the opening of the Crimean bridge May 15 or 16, 2018... The source of the information is not named, but refers to reliable sources close to the Kremlin. It is also said that at the opening of the bridge will be sure to be present President Putin, on the tight schedule of which the end date depends.

May 14 was finally officially announced - Crimean Bridge opens on May 16 from 05:30 and forever! " The movement will start simultaneously from both sides of the bridge - two lanes each with a maximum speed of 90 km / h, without stopping at the bridge. On the eve of the Crimean Bridge, bridge builders will officially open - a column of construction equipment will be the first to cross the bridge.

The scheme of movement through the Crimean bridge

The State Committee for Roads of the Crimea promulgated the scheme of movement through the Kerch bridge, according to which cars and passenger buses can freely use the bridge, which cannot be said about trucks weighing more than 3.5 tons- they will have to use the ferry.

A detailed description of the approach to the bridge can be found on the website of the Ministry of Roads of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Consequences of the opening of the Kerch bridge

The construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait was not for nothing dubbed the Construction of the Century. First, the bridge will become the longest in Russia and one of the longest in Europe. Its length is 19 kilometers. Secondly, by connecting Crimea with the mainland, the bridge will allow you to quickly and easily move from the mainland of Russia to Crimea and vice versa.

After the launch of the bridge, experts predict general decline in prices in Crimea for consumer goods, gasoline and diesel fuel. The presence of the bridge will have a beneficial effect on tourism on the peninsula, greatly facilitating the journey for guests in private cars and unloading the ferry crossing.

In March 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin assigned the Ministry of Transport with the task of building the Kerch Bridge for road and rail links. According to the project, the crossing will consist of parallel road and rail sections.

Kerch bridge

The motor road should have 4 lanes, the maximum speed on it will be 120 km / h. The capacity of the highway is up to 40 thousand vehicles per day. In October 2015, traffic was opened across the Kerch Strait on a temporary working bridge. Petro Koval, a railway engineer, candidate of technical sciences, a member of the Academy of Construction of Ukraine, answered questions about the prospects for the construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait.

- In the news there was a message that the construction of the first section of the auxiliary bridge, which connected the Krasnodar Territory and the Tuzla Island, has been completed in the Kerch Strait. Petr Nikolaevich, what is a temporary bridge?

- The temporary bridge is a bridge in order to speed up the construction of the main bridge later. That is, it will be used to supply materials, equipment, work can be carried out from several points, which, of course, will accelerate the pace of work.

- Do I understand correctly that this is an infrastructural detail that is used not for buses with passengers, but for trucks that deliver cargo.

- This is a working bridge that will help build the main bridge. Why temporary? Because it is designed for a short time. If we talk about the main bridge, then it should be at least one hundred years old. During this time, an earthquake may occur, for example, some other cataclysms, and he must withstand all this. And a modern bridge, in which case, of course, can suffer, and the builders know this, and if force majeure happens, then there will be no victims like on the main bridge, of course.

The concept of the construction of the Kerch bridge

- When I read about the fate of the first 70-year-old bridge, I remember that the spring ice drift played a sad role in its fate. And then it was demolished, could not bear the load. But now they are building a temporary bridge on the eve of winter, and by spring, as I understand it, the threat will not go anywhere.

- You see, there are such ice drifts not every year. And just that bridge was unlucky. This time it may not happen, but theoretically it can happen too.

- I repeat, we often hear politicians whether or not the Kerch bridge will be built. But from an engineering point of view, from an expert point of view, is this project even possible?

- Technically possible, but will this bridge be reliable and with what degree of probability? way". That is, the principles of construction are being violated. There are processes that guarantee the reliability of the bridge - research, development of options, passing a very detailed serious examination. And only after that construction begins. As far as I followed the events, laws were specially adopted in Russia that violate the procedure. That is, it is allowed to start construction, and then legitimize what will be built. At the moment there is no project, but the construction of the bridge, albeit an auxiliary one, is already underway. That is, the basic principle has been violated.

- Do I understand correctly that the construction of the Kerch Bridge is such a political project.

- Yes, that's why they are in a hurry. If from the point of view of reliability, from the point of view of probability, that nothing will happen, then of course it is impossible to build like this. But if we want a political resonance, if we want different political actions, then yes, this is why construction is underway.

- But what is the fundamental thing you say that the construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait is possible. Because a lot of bravura statements were made that no, it is impossible to build it, that soft soils and so on. Give, please, an expert assessment of how labor-intensive, achievable, and so on, from the point of view of modern technologies, the transport crossing in the form of a bridge is.

- Here is the main problem. This is seismic. On September 17, Interfax.ru published a statement by the Deputy Director of the Institute of Earth Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Evgeny Rogozhin, based on the research of the institute, said that it had been decided to lower the seismicity from 9-10 points to 8.5.

- Is it in the Kerch Strait?

- Yes Yes. And this, he said, increases the reliability of this solution. It's absurd, why? It seems to be based on research, and they certainly were, these studies, but the likelihood of force majeure still exists. And so, a strong-willed decision was made to lower the requirements for the bridge. Because at 10 points, these are fantastically unique designs, incredibly expensive. But we have lowered the requirements to 8.5. Yes, we have reduced costs, simplified the task for designers, builders, but the likelihood of an accident increases.

Of course, what is the probability? If there is a strong earthquake. And our forecasting, again, is not at a very high level. When it was in Yalta in 1927 - no one expected it. And even now, after 100 years, no one has learned to predict an earthquake in a few years.

- That is, a situation occurs when the requirements for engineering structures are adjusted to the budget and to political expediency. By the way, about the budget. In February, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak announced the cost of the bridge - 228 billion rubles. And another question, in addition to seismic activity, the combination of "soft soils" is often heard. Is this what it is and is it really a serious problem?

- The situation is that there is silt of 60 meters. The diameter of the piles is expected to be 1.4 meters. And silt, in fact, does not hold piles. And piles with such a length and diameter are very thin supports, and they will turn out to be very flexible.

- Petr Nikolaevich, from all that has been said, I understand that the construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait from the point of view of modern technologies, it is quite real. It's just a story about such a first victory - it requires bold engineering decisions and a willingness to pay quite a lot of budget money, do I understand correctly?

- I guess, yes. And it is also about making reliable decisions, since the construction of a bridge requires significant investments.

- You touched upon the possibility of a tunnel under the Kerch Strait, and you said that there are two different technologies for creating a tunnel under the Kerch bridge. We will call your colleague Nikolai Glukhov, who believes that the passage through the Kerch Strait should not be in the format of a bridge, but in the format of a tunnel. In his opinion, the bridge will cost much more than the tunnel. Nikolai Ivanovich, we know you as one of the lobbyists of the underground crossing over the Kerch Strait, tell me, what are the advantages of the tunnel over the bridge in this case?

- I'm not a lobbyist. In this case, I am an expert on this crossing, I would like to tell you, first of all, how the task of building the crossing was set incorrectly. Crimea lies on the shortest crossing between Europe and Asia and the bridge is a matter of connecting Crimea and the mainland of Russia. The figures and indicators of the bridge have already been made public. These are 10 million passengers, and 14 million tons of cargo per year, and these are such paltry figures for 228 billion rubles. We indicated that 10 and 14 are promising indicators for Crimea. And if today we can solve the problem for 10 million euros without building any bridges and tunnels, we add two berths on both sides and increase the capacity of the ferry crossing. And we close this question.

No, we are aiming to build a bridge. Then let's say that the regional problem is being solved for 100 million. Then tell me, what a state task can it be, after all, not only the annexation of Crimea, but also the creation of a transport and logistics complex Crimea, which will allow moving and creating completely different cargo and passenger flows, for this we must build something else! We presented these projects at all levels, because if in truth - we still have to build a deep-water export port, 250 million passengers a year and more than 50 million cargo - this is the southern port for the Russian Federation in the Black Sea, and the only place where you can build such a port is the Feodosia Gulf, all of this is presented in our projects.

FAQ

© 2018 Official information site of the construction of the Crimean bridge

With the commissioning of the Crimean bridge and the onset of summer weather, not only motorists, but also cyclists thought about traveling to Crimea. The latter had questions: is it possible to cross the 19-kilometer structure on a bicycle? Motorists, on the other hand, talk about how to admire the views from the bridge and not run into a fine. Who can ride on the bridge and at what speed, "Gazeta.Ru" was told in the press service of the Crimean bridge, as well as the builders who participated in the creation of the structure.

Cars: up to 90 km / h

The rules of travel on the Crimean bridge are simple and generally do not differ from those that must be observed when traveling on any other bridge in Russia. Travel through the 19-kilometer building is free. On the bridge, traffic is allowed at a speed of up to 90 km / h, while overtaking on the bridge is prohibited (clause 11.4 of the SDA "Overtaking, advancing, oncoming passing"). In addition, stops cannot be made at a transport crossing - such a violation, according to Art. 12.19 of the Administrative Code, entails a warning or the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of five hundred rubles. By the way, this particular violation has become the most frequent of those that have been committed by drivers since the launch of the bridge on May 15: according to the information center staff, despite the ban, many drivers stop to take a selfie in the archway or at the entrance to the Taman Peninsula.

Photo report: Crimean bridge is open for traffic

It is worth remembering that vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons are currently allowed here. This restriction does not affect regular buses that carry out passenger transportation, and operates on the new section of the federal road A-290 Novorossiysk - Kerch from May to October this year. Truck drivers can use the Kerch ferry service until October.

Video cameras monitor the observance of traffic rules on the bridge. So, as previously told "Gazeta.Ru" in PKU Uprdor "TAMAN", traffic on the highway on the Crimean bridge is controlled by an automated traffic control system - ATCS. The system is an integration of several subsystems that provide automatic monitoring of the traffic situation, meteorological conditions, traffic flows, recognition of emergency situations and other incidents.

There are 19 video surveillance cameras and ten cameras of the road traffic accident prevention system installed on the highway. Video information is displayed on monitors in.

At the same time, to inform drivers, modern road signs have been installed on the bridge, which are clearly visible in the dark and during the day. Along the entire length of the bridge, there are more than 60 standard signs indicating the mileage and direction of travel.

By bike you can, on foot - no

Pedestrians are forbidden to walk on the bridge, warned in the information center of the "Crimean Bridge". There are no areas for stopping and photographing on the bridge.

We will also answer the main question of all bicycle owners: as the press service of the Crimean Bridge told Gazeta.Ru, the passage of cyclists on the Crimean Bridge is allowed in accordance with the traffic rules. This means that cyclists, as well as other drivers, are prohibited from stopping. However, in the VKontakte group, dedicated to the Crimean bridge, many drivers have already expressed their dissatisfaction about this. Thus, a motorist believes that it is dangerous to be on a bridge on a bicycle.

“There are few cars now and they drive slowly. Everyone is staring. And then the flow will rush under the "sotochku" - there is nothing for bicycles to do there. Dangerous for everyone, ”she wrote on the social network.

The cyclist, on the other hand, believes that traveling around Crimea by bicycle is a good option, and he is not afraid of traveling across the bridge.

“Comrades, talk about the harm of exhaust emissions and the distance of 20 km with halts is a kindergarten,” Smirnov wrote.

- 100 km from Kerch to Anapa, even on a loaded tourist bike, can be covered in six hours. On a light road bike and favorable weather, you can get off within three hours.

Non-stop in both cases - chocolate, nuts and water in bicycle flasks. Stopping is prohibited only on the bridge. Violated, sinned - but only for the sake of the photo. Personal indicator - 330 kilometers a day and 600 kopecks for the weekend. Welcome to the 21st century, citizens, motorists. "

In turn, the builder Igor Ivanishin, who took part in the construction of the Crimean bridge, also confirmed that passage over the bridge on bicycles is allowed. “He explained that there are no travel bans, but at the same time, a cyclist, like any other vehicle, has no right to stop at the bridge, that is, he will have to pedal 19 km without rest,” Ivanishin said. - They write a lot about the width of the shoulder on the Crimean bridge, and the shoulder on the Crimean bridge is 1.25 m, which makes it impossible to park the car freely, without interfering with anyone. But at the same time it is quite wide for the passage of cyclists. "

Ivanishin also shared information about the work of traffic police posts on the bridge. According to him, inspectors most often check buses and minibuses of the Gazelle type.

“There is no question of the weight tolerance,” writes the builder. - That is, big buses, for example, "Neoplans", are already running across the bridge with might and main. There are only two checkpoints, at the entrance to Taman and at the entrance to Kerch. That is, there are no posts on the road. The employees are polite and sociable. "

Let us remind you that the opening ceremony of the Crimean Bridge took place on May 15. The movement on the bridge was symbolically opened by a column of trucks and construction equipment led by President Vladimir Putin, who got behind the wheel: he drove across the bridge in 16 minutes 45 seconds. The bridge across the Kerch Strait has become the longest in Europe, its length is 19 kilometers. The bridge begins on the Taman Peninsula, runs along a five-kilometer dam and Tuzla Island, crosses the Kerch Strait and goes to the coast of Crimea. The planned throughput capacity is 40 thousand cars and 47 pairs of trains per day, 14 million passengers and 13 million tons of cargo per year. In parallel, the automobile and railway parts were being built. At the same time, the automobile part of the bridge was handed over six months ahead of schedule.

So far, you can get to Crimea by ferry, where, due to the large flow of tourists, a very difficult situation has developed. On the crossing during the holiday season, about 2 thousand cars accumulate, which have to wait for their turn for days.

In order to choose the most optimal option for laying the bridge, 74 options were analyzed. The potential intensity of road and rail transport, construction costs, and the feasibility of building tunnel crossings were taken into account.

Experts immediately called the most probable "Tuzlinsky range", since it was this route of the Kerch bridge that was initially shorter than the others, by 10-15 km. However, its main advantage is its remoteness from the Kerch ferry crossing and intensive shipping.

This option also makes it possible to use the Tuzla Spit 750 meters wide. It is proposed to build a road and a railway along it, which will reduce the number of bridge crossings by 6.5 km, which means that the labor intensity and cost of construction will decrease significantly.

The first 1.4 km long bridge will run from the Taman Peninsula to Tuzla Island, and the second, 6.1 km long, is designed to connect Tuzla with the Kerch Peninsula. The total length of the bridge will be about 19 km.

On the Crimean coast, a motorway will be built to the M-17 motorway with a length of 8 km and a railway with a length of 17.8 km to the station. Bagerovo, through which the railway of republican significance passes. In the Krasnodar Territory, a highway is being designed to the M-25 road with a length of 41 km and a railway with a length of 42 km to the intermediate station Vysheblievskaya on the Kavkaz-Crimea railway.

Few people know, but the railway bridge across the Kerch Strait has already been built once. More than fifty years ago, when the Germans still hoped to gain complete power over all of Eurasia, Hitler had a blue dream - to connect Germany with the Persian Gulf countries by rail through the Kerch Strait. During the occupation of the peninsula by fascist troops, steel structures were brought to Crimea for the construction of the bridge. Work began in the spring of 1944, after the liberation of the Crimean peninsula from the Nazi invaders.

On November 3, 1944, railway traffic was opened on the bridge. However, already three months later, the pillars of the bridge were destroyed by ice. Having lost its strategic importance, the bridge was dismantled and replaced by a ferry crossing. However, regardless of such a seemingly primitive design, the construction of a bridge of such length on the sea strait in wartime is a historical event and a technical achievement.

The new Kerch bridge is supposed to be made two-level, since it should include railways and a highway. At the same time, in some sections of the bridge, trains will move in parallel with cars, and in others, they will pass over them or under them.
