A small in size, but monumental in form, a two-storey building was built in neo-Byzantine forms in 1892-99 by the architect L.N. Kekushev. It has a symmetrical three-part composition, along the central axis of which, behind the entrance lobby, is the Church of Joseph the Betrothed, with a dome on a wide light drum. The facade is divided by three projections-risalits, covered with 2-pitched roofs. My review of the sights of this area, of course, does not pretend to be complete, but I hope it will be interesting;) Let's go!

This is Abrikosov's mansion at Krasnoselskaya Street, house 7. That very famous mansion that adorns the products of the Babaevsky confectionery concern. In life, he does not look so impressive.

The buildings of the factory look huge, especially compared to the small mansion of the Aprikosovs.

The old mansion building (built in 1905) is going through hard times now. Plaster is flying from the facade.

Entry to the building is prohibited. It looks like it's in disrepair.

Almshouse Geer. Verkhnyaya Krasnoselskaya street, 15 The building was built in the neo-Byzantine style by architect L.N. Kekushev. It belonged to the merchant of the first guild, Osip Nikolayevich Geer. After his death, the widow, Natalya Petrovna Geer, handed over the building to the Novo-Alekseevsky monastery for the establishment of an almshouse in it. About 100 elderly Muscovites of both sexes lived there. The building is currently in a state of permanent restoration. At least the sign informing about the restoration has been hanging for several years, but things are still there.

Temple of Alexy, the man of God. Built in 1853 by the architect M.D. Bykovsky. This is the main temple of the Novo-Alekseevsky women's monastery. Once the monastery was located closer to the Kremlin, but in 1837 it was decided to build the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in its place, and the monastery "moved" to the village of Krasnoe near Moscow. Under Soviet rule, the monastery was closed, a club was set up in the building of the temple of Alexy, the man of God, and the Third Transport Ring passed right through the territory of the monastery. As a result, most of the monastery was separated from the temple, which gave the entire monastery its name.

To see the rest of the monastery, you need to use the underground passage. There is such a Red Army soldier on the wall. Why he is naked is a mystery. This is the artist's concept;)

The monastery is adjacent to the Auchan hypermarket. Apparently, this ad is intended primarily for visitors to the aforementioned hypermarket, since it hangs on the side of the fence that is closer to the hypermarket.

This is how the territory of the Novo-Alekseevsky monastery looks like.

Neighbours:)

The monastery has an Orthodox school.

Behind the Church of All Saints there is a small apple orchard, and even further away, construction is in full swing.

Joseph Nikolaevich Geer, Swiss by birth, took Russian citizenship, in 1835 he joined the Moscow 1st Merchant Guild and married a Russian. So he himself, and everyone around him, despite his foreign name, considered him Russian. Things were going well for him, but his life on earth expired in 1894. And the inconsolable widow Natalya Petrovna turned to the mayor K.V. Rukavishnikov with a proposal: she transfers to the ownership of the city a large plot of land near the Novo-Alekseevsky monastery worth 250 thousand rubles, provided that an almshouse will be built on it. The decision to assign a name to the new institution was made at the very top, and in April 1895 there followed the highest permission to assign a shelter established by the city government “on the land donated by Mrs. Geer to the property of Moscow, named after the husband of the donor Joseph Nikolayevich Geer”.

On January 1, 1899, an almshouse with a house church in honor of the patron saint of the husband of the righteous Joseph the Betrothed - as they say in the reference books, “a small in size, but monumental in forms two-story building in neo-Byzantine forms,” built by Kekushev with the participation of architect I.A. Ivanova-Shitsa was opened. It was intended for elderly residents of Moscow of both sexes, up to 100 people. They were admitted to it by order of the city government. The poorhouse had good living conditions, an infirmary, in which a paramedic was constantly on duty.

Natalya Petrovna not only donated the plot, but also at her own expense purchased all the church utensils, bought icons with expensive frames, the necessary church furniture, all the vestments for clergymen and ordered an iconostasis.

Almshouse named after Geer on Verkhnyaya Krasnoselskaya street, No. 15 (1894-1899)

“Let’s not forget that there was a good park at the almshouse, where those who were welcomed spent a lot of time.

The almshouse was opened in January 1899 in the presence of numerous guests of honor and high clergy. The building did not at all look like a shelter, but in scope and splendor resembled a grand ducal palace. In Moscow, they talked and wrote a lot about the new charitable institution, set it up as an example ... ”(historian-archivist Yulian Tolstov).

By the way, three years earlier Natalya Petrovna built a city shelter for orphans not far from here, on her own land.

What Joseph Nikolayevich Geer was famous for during his lifetime, history is silent. But his wife immortalized his name for centuries.

Conclusion: good deeds will preserve your name for posterity!

From 1968 to the early 1990s, in the historical building of the former almshouse named after I.N. Geera located Raznoexport system of the Ministry of Foreign Trade. What is now in this "protected object of cultural heritage of regional significance", I do not know.
