Samsung galaxy s7 edge chips and secrets. Testing the Samsung Galaxy S7: the most interesting "chips" of the device

The Edge model received not only evolutionary solutions that have grown from existing systems, but also fundamentally new ones. The smartphone is unequivocally out of the general range - a rather bold step on the part of Samsung and, at first glance, very successful.

In contact with

Edge Interface

The non-alternative add-on for the proprietary TouchWiz utility, which exploits the touch space of the side face of the gadget, is familiar to us from the previous model in this series. But if earlier it was a primitive panel with icons lined up in one column, now there are twice as many rows for icons, and their range has been significantly expanded by adding arbitrary widgets. Samsung has delegated the rights to operate the Edge interface to the community - we can form a pool of shortcut buttons to our liking. Developers have the opportunity to create new thematic widgets and, presumably, they will not be the case.

A distinctive feature of the Galaxy S7, which is inherent in both representatives of the duo, is to the great delight of avid gamers. Not so much cold-blooded professionals, but gambling, emotional lovers with sweeping swipes and angry pokes to drive virtual evil spirits on the touch screen. The Game Launcher system eliminates false positives in such a situation, blocks notifications and other activities of other applications that distract from the game. Plus, the function of automatic recording of what is happening on the screen - a fresh video chronicle of achievements can be quickly shared on social networks.

Camera with super wide-angle lens

The aperture value is F 1.7, which from a technical point of view is no longer a unique achievement among smartphones. However, among the mass models available to ordinary buyers in this historical period, this is one of the best options. We are talking about the struggle for leadership in solving a common problem - in conditions of mediocre illumination. The S7 Edge F1.7 camera allows you to shoot with higher efficiency than current competitors.

Shooting in hyperlapse mode by default

For quite a long time, the ability to practice this visual creativity was limited to the functionality of applications from third-party developers. With the advent of the S7 Edge model, the Korean brand has closed another gap in its products - hyperlapse has become one of the "native", native camera functions of the new smartphone. This promises more comfort and fewer flaws when shooting copyright videos, especially in not the most favorable conditions. Like spontaneous recordings on the busy streets of megacities, when there is absolutely no time to pre-configure the application.

Animated panorama

Also not a revolutionary innovation, but a well-designed and implemented function. In the case of the latest generation of Edge, there are at least two key advantages over analogues. Firstly, fast and accurate gluing of borders, which allows minimizing graphic collisions, especially when shooting a large number of moving people. Secondly, the animated panorama provides easy and fast navigation in any direction, which eliminates the limitation inherent in conventional video recording. There, the operator must constantly turn in all directions to capture the surroundings, but the new method is much easier and more comfortable.

Dual Pixel Technology

The S7 Edge was the first commercial smartphone to receive this option. The matrix of her camera has a double set of LEDs, arranged by analogy with human eyes. This is the secret to incredibly fast focusing compared to other solutions on the market, hence the ability to manually adjust the focus, deliberately moving away from the reference machine value for the sake of the author's intention. Plus the notorious problem of lack of light - getting twice as much light and comparing the performance in each pair of LEDs, the system shows a better response than the cameras of its main competitors.

Greetings!

My outpourings of "why I left the apple and how I came to life with Samsung" who are interested, but not at all necessary and can be skipped:

We spent 4.5 wonderful years with the iPhone 4S (it came to me by accident and was my first touch), we lived in perfect harmony, it never let me down or betrayed me. He flew three times a week: from a height, on tiles, on cement, on slabs. I threw him, stepped on him and sat down. He swam three times, twice of them thoroughly "scuba diving" and for several minutes. And it worked flawlessly!!!

But time passes, everything develops, or I'm getting old... I began to devote more time to some online projects, respectively, disappeared in a tiny screen with my minus, and my eyes were not at all grateful for this. The number 1 requirement for a new phone is a BIG SCREEN and the more the better.

The set includes:

  • mobile phone (including back protective film)
  • charger (working on a fast charging system)
  • headphones in a box + a replaceable pair of rubber bands
  • usb adapter for phone
  • pin for sim card slot
  • instruction + world insurance voucher and device code

Appearance

I chose the panels in gold color. Silver looks cheap, black is beautiful, but somehow standard or something, white is generally useless, therefore actually gold))

Now I saw in online stores are still presented in blue and pink. At the time of my purchase, there were no such colors to choose from, so I didn’t turn it in my hands, xs how it looks in real life.

For a very long time, I toiled in choosing between the Samsung S7 Edge and the regular Samsung S7. Many scolded the Edge panel, but it immediately sunk into my soul how the phone looks. I was afraid that I wouldn’t find a good cover / glass / film (by the way, I haven’t found it yet), that I’ll fall - I’ll break it, and not only does it cost a lot of money to change, but also the water resistance is immediately covered ...

In the end, I settled on Agee and have no regrets. Well, he's handsome:

Headset

Headphones come in a convenient box. They have never been stuck there. Plus, the set includes one interchangeable set of rubber bands for the earpiece (the same size). Suitable for small ears, standard ones usually don’t fit me at all, there is a very ergonomic shape.

There are no complaints about the sound quality. But the volume could have been better. I almost always listen to the maximum (by the way, the phone will always warn you about the dangers of prolonged loud listening to music)

I had three main reasons why I even wanted a new phone, despite the fact that my apple old man suited everything except the screen.

Charger

The phone has a fast charging feature. The phone charges really fast! But if you suddenly need to charge via a detachable USB cable, for example, through a laptop, then it takes a very long time to charge, it can take 2-3 hours. Terribly inconvenient, I would even attribute this to the minuses ((

There are no complaints about the USB adapter:

Dual SIM/slot for memory card

So far, I have not taken an additional card. Maximum allowed memory card size up to 32 gigs.

Both slots go under nanoskuyu. The key is larger and more comfortable than the iphone, but their nose is identical. The slot gets without any effort.

cameras

Cameras were the second main criterion for choosing a phone. On the iPhone 4S, the camera never suited me, I took pictures with it very rarely.

What we have here:

  • front camera - 5MP
  • main - 12MP(on phones now there are more, but this is not the main thing at all) , but with an aperture of 1,7 !!! My whale lens nervously smokes on the sidelines and quietly hides in a mink with the onset of night and the good fellow Samsung enters the scene.

Aperture is the bandwidth of the lens, i.e. Aperture refers to the maximum amount of light that passes through the lens and hits the sensor of a digital camera. The larger the aperture of the lens - the more light can pass through it, the greater the possibility when shooting in poor light without using a flash or a tripod.

There is an automatic mode. There is a professional mode (where you can already control the shooting mode in more detail - practically a camera). Panorama mode, selective focus adjustment, video collage, slow motion, food mode. Possibility to preset and already shoot immediately with the overlay of the filter... Various correction possibilities!

Double click of the mobile button - transition to the camera. The phone allows you to take a picture and view it on a locked phone.

On average, one photo per main camera weighs 3-5 MB, 1-2 MB on the front. The maximum memory I had was packed somewhere for 2 thousand photos (+ applications, operating systems, etc.). The main camera comes with a flash, for frontal flash shots a bright screen flash works (sorry for the tautology). If you hold down the volume button, it shoots a series of frames, and at such a speed that you only have time to blink, and already a hundred have been shot.

I will immediately show various examples of photographs taken in different conditions with both cameras. All photos are without any processing, everything is taken by the phone. Filmed both in auto and pro mode. I usually shoot pro at dusk and at night.

Screen

This is one of the most important points for me. Diagonal 5.5" is big enough for the eyes, but not a tablet yet. The difference with my old man is enormous!

From the top right of the display, there are small indicator lights:

  • red - low battery
  • green - the phone is charged (if it is connected to charging)
  • blue - SMS/notification received

The sensor is great. The phone really flies even when the memory is full. There have never been any misunderstandings that I press one, and then three more unnecessary garbage. The exception is rounded edges, and even then only in the supine position I can hurt something - more below)

Edge Sidebar

Very comfortable, necessary and I love the thing. I use it all the time, although at the beginning, when I looked at the reviews from the first bloggers, almost everyone said that they say the thing is useless, play for 2-3 months and forget.

You can adjust the size of the slider on the side (3 options), position (left/right, above/below), transparency. Then the panels are configured. I have 4 of them: the main frequently used applications, followed by the necessary contacts and you can add your favorite web pages (I have nothing yet, it’s somehow more familiar through the search engine). You can also add a bookmark with weather, time, currencies, news. You can change the order of these pages, the next time the panel opens exactly where you closed it.

Also, this feature will make life easier for those for whom, let's say, the phone is too big, as it allows you to operate the most used functions and applications with one hand.

Screen protection

  • The most common film and a cover with a hinged lid were immediately purchased. I don’t know what kind of quality this first film had, but it was scratched instantly. Already on the third day of use, she was as if beaten by dogs:

  • The second time I decided to test the so-called protective glass. I ordered it in gold color, this rather red-haired miracle arrived, but this is not so important. Sat down well, but just Edge with its edges is not suitable for "glass". As a result, it peeled off in the middle, the phone did not respond to normal touches, I had to press hard. I ended up throwing it out after 3 days.

  • Well, the third attempt - again films, but more expensive, already in a certified store. In appearance, they do not differ from the first. There were 2 pieces in the set. Fitted without any problem. For 2 months I have been successfully wanting with her and almost no scratches.

  • On the back of the panel, I left the original sticky film (it is her tail that sometimes gets into the frame in front), plus I always wear it in a case.

My favorite goodies in the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Printscreen or screen shot.

In the iPhone, I used to do everything through two home keys + lock. It works instantly. Right there in the Samsung, you can take pictures in the same way, but the downside is that here you need to hold down two keys exactly, exactly at the same time, you can’t hold down the “home” key one iota earlier, then hold it for a while until a characteristic click. It doesn’t always work out for me, in the beginning it didn’t work at all.

But the S7 edge has a drop dead the function is to swipe your hand across the screen and it takes a picture.

Rounded edges

This is where everyone's opinions differ. Someone really likes it, someone interferes and seems to be a minus. I fell in love with them right away.

How to hold the phone so as not to press anything extra? It didn't cause any problems for me, because I always work on the phone with two hands, I don’t press them to the edges, it was the same with a miniature apple. Perhaps for men's hands this is extremely problematic, but I think it will not cause discomfort for girls. I never manipulate with one hand (only with the Edge panel), and if there was a need for a phone, it is possible to both minimize the application to the desired size, and split the screen into two halves, or simply switch to one-handed mode - reduce the entire screen.

The screen is divided into two halves by a long press of the left touch button. It looks like this:

The only problem I have is when I use my phone while lying over my head., then it turns out hanging on the palms upside down touching the screen and then, of course, everything you want is pressed. But since with my vision such "lying" is only harmful, it motivates me not to strain my eyes once again))

Moisture / water resistance.

I can honestly say that somehow I deliberately did not test my phone for this function. A lot of bloggers on the net mock the Seven as much as they can: the more modest ones simply drown it, someone puts it in water in the freezer, someone boils it, and the desperate generally bathe it in Coca-Cola. Everyone goes crazy in their own way. Although the phone survived in all such crash tests, but I am on such heroism incapable of feedback))

What really happened: regular wet hands, sea spray, rain, bathrooms full of steam - the phone didn’t notice all this, I somehow didn’t particularly protect it and it works flawlessly. Nothing leaked or got stuck. Therefore, I conclude that it is moisture resistant, but I will not risk using it constantly as an underwater camera.

This, of course, is heaven and earth compared to the eternal need to connect from iOS to iTunes. I’m the person who goes without a single song on iphone for 3 years, because it’s difficult to navigate in iTunes, he’s always stupid: either he doesn’t enter, he doesn’t see the phone, he doesn’t sync, he just doesn’t want to throw off some file, don’t understand why . Of course, it would be possible to figure something out, reinstall something, reflash, etc., but these dances with a tambourine strained me in order and it was easier for me not to listen to music than to spend time on all this.

With Samsung C7, this problem disappeared by itself. I generally don't upload music. When listening online in VK, it is all saved to me in the cache and then I calmly listen to it from offline! Pictures, videos, files - everything is quickly and seamlessly transferred with a slight movement of the mouse.

Battery

Magical, given how many "good" things we've all heard about android viability...

I did not manage to test the phone's survivability in standby mode - but offhand, judging by how it manages to discharge itself overnight, I can say that it will live for at least a week in the mode of a few telephone conversations.

Lives a full day in the mode of almost continuous photo / video shooting + periodically working GPS. Mobile Internet sits down the phone pretty quickly. On average, a day will live. Wi-Fi will last a little longer. On normal working days, I charge every two days.

In the settings there is a handy feature called Battery, where you can turn on the power-saving mode, and in the statistics tab you can see in detail where the charging percentage is spent! Very comfortably.

How to save charge? AT turn on power saving mode!

Don't forget to turn off all unused applications. Plus, the phone itself puts all applications that have not been used for more than three days into a power-saving mode.

Reduce screen brightness. I usually turn off auto-adjust and lower the brightness a little manually.

All our Italian adventure, I didn’t worry that we would be left without a connection, a signal, or just time and a flashlight - it was enough for me to charge the phone at night and I knew that in the morning I would still have the same 100% + I could not worry, that I don’t have enough charge to take pictures from morning until late at night, or that the phone will die from the inability to load maps.

Not so significant for me, but also very interesting features

Among other things, there are a lot of useful features, such as:

  • the ability to customize all the details of the screen for yourself (fonts, icon sizes, transparency, themes (there are standard ones and you can say Samsung has free ones), set the night hours - the numbers glow on the side and the Always on display mode is turned off)
  • function do not turn on the screen - prevents accidental turning on of the screen in a bag or pocket.
  • definitely useful department - special abilities - allows you to configure the phone for the hard of hearing / seeing / people with impaired coordination

  • you can put a slideshow on the screen saver , selecting any folder for playback, for example, Instagram photos - beautiful, of course, but it eats up a lot of charge for the screen to work.
  • always on display - the time is on the display all the time, the icons of incoming SMS and calls, what music is playing, you can put the backlight in the form of a pattern. Conveniently, you can set the time to turn on and off this function in order to save battery.

Functions that I have not yet been able to test and study in detail:

  • simple mute - first put your hand on the speaker, then turn the phone upside down - you will mute the incoming sound or turn off the alarm clock.
  • night clock on the side - the Always on display function is turned off - I sleep at night, then I don’t need a clock either on the side or in the center.
  • calling a contact holding the phone to your ear - if you are on a certain contact. If I'm standing on it, then I'm not too lazy to press a button)

Get used to Android

Before Samsung, I already had a little experience with Nexus 5, forced, I spent about a month with it, maybe even two. I remember spitting a lot and being indignant: "Yes, so that I ever again voluntarily from iOS to Android?! Yes, never!". Then, little by little, I began to get used to the appearance of the operating system. But it didn't work out for us then love.

Having picked up Samsung, I surprisingly quickly found a common language with it. Its menu is thought out to the smallest detail. Whatever I'm looking for, I find on my phone within a few seconds. There has never been such that I spent half a day to figure out some settings - with iOS it was.

I really like how all the new items are signed and explanations are added of what and how you should do.

The top pop-up menu is incredibly handy. You can either simply turn it on / off, or press and go to the full menu by function. With Samsung S7 Edge, everything is at your fingertips, everything is fast and convenient. You do not notice how you begin to navigate everything without any problems.

It took me a long time to get used to the differences between the functions of the main movable button. Probably about a month. Now I enjoy using both operating systems and none causes discomfort.

Phone lock

I am using fingerprint verification. The phone reacts and responds quite quickly, and quite deftly recognizes the print at different angles and inclinations, without any extra pressing and effort.

In case I do not use a print, a verification graphic code is still installed. You can give fingerprint access to multiple people.

Hull strength

I'm not me if my phone doesn't fly. It has already fallen at least 5 times, including on the screen. While thank God the whole, without scratches and damage, did not start to blunt.

For myself, I concluded that the Samsung screens are not so weak.

Price

The phone was given to me as a gift, so I can't tell you the exact price. The only thing I know for sure is that the phone in the Czech Republic is much more expensive than in the CIS. Mine was bought in Kazakhstan in August, now the price has dropped somewhat, the websites indicate from 200,000 tenge and more ($620, etc.).

For example, the most popular electronics store in the Czech Republic is now asking for a gold Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge at a 10% discount - 20 250 crowns (it's about $800).

Six months experience. I recommend to buy, and both Android users and apple lovers)) The phone continues to delight every day, especially the camera, sometimes I forget to take the camera, because I can now rely on the quality of pictures from Samsung.

Thank you for coming to the light) Good and successful shopping for you.

Good day to all. In this article, you will get acquainted with the novelty in the mobile technology market: the Galaxy S7 smartphone.

External differences Galaxy S7 is not particularly noticeable in comparison with its predecessor. It looks like the management of Samsung decided to stick to the ideas of conservatism and keep the external style the same for all models. But this does not apply to the internal parameters of the novelty.

The most powerful processor

The internal processor in the Samsung Galaxy S7 will be the latest Exynos 8 Octa processor. It has built-in 4 high performance cores. They are the company's own design. Complemented by 4 quiet Cortex-A53 cores. Allows you to save phone battery.

The heart of the Samsung Galaxy S7 is the Exynos 8890

If we analyze the Exynos 8890 that is used in the Galaxy S7 by the tested features, they show excellent performance ahead of their time.

Using its development, the company seeks to increase performance in simultaneous computing. Currently, many mobile applications cannot run on multi-core processors.

Additional chipset used in Galaxy S7 - Snapdragon 820

Innovative Camera

The camera in the Samsung Galaxy S7 is truly innovative! But the company decided not to chase after increasing the resolution of the photo, but to improve the quality of the picture in other ways. Because of this approach, the Galaxy S7 camera has a modest resolution of only 12 megapixels.

The camera sensor itself is larger than the previous model. The latest patented Britecell technology gives you the ability to create clearer and better photos, especially this feature will show itself in low light places. The technology conveys natural colors. According to experts, many will like it.

The result of the entry into the market of the Samsung Galaxy S7 should be the final displacement of digital cameras (if you bought it, of course). Even if you argue about the fact that the pictures are obtained with a small (comparatively) resolution, we can assure you: resolution does not play a major role.

More important is the quality of the resulting images. Samsung is currently targeting this.

MicroSD in Galaxy S7: support

Another surprise. Support for a microSD slot has become available in the Samsung Galaxy S7. Many manufacturers in the past year began to refuse support for new smartphones to expand the memory. It started with Samsung.

The MicroSD slot is back!

A pleasant gift is the appearance of new and fast memory cards. Their volume ... attention ... 512 Gb (in the future they plan to bring it to an incredible value: 2 Tb!). Therefore excuse about incompatibility of memory types disappears.

Having received this card for your use, you will look down on Apple iPhone users. Apple smartphones are initially deprived of such an opportunity as an increase in memory.

Large battery and fast charging

The Galaxy S7 has a stronger battery. Its capacity is 3000 mAh (unlike its predecessor, which had a capacity of 2600 mAh). This should be enough for a long run.

If you are not already squeaking with delight, the next news will make you incredibly happy: the Galaxy S7 has the ability to replenish its charge much faster (compared to the Galaxy S6). To replenish 66% of the charge, you will spend no more than 28 minutes.

This is due to the presence of Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology (on the Snapdragon 820), and on the Exynos 8 Oct, Samsung's proprietary development.

Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0

If you don't like extra wires, the Samsung Galaxy S7 (in every variant) will allow you to charge it wirelessly. The smartphone is “friendly” with both standards – PMA and Qi. Charging is faster. After less than 2 hours, your smartphone is fully charged.

Mobile communication standards in the modern world.

With all this in mind, one might ask the following question: does the Samsung Galaxy s7 support mobile communication standards? And not only. It is a reflection of the future. It has a built-in modem that supports 4G LTE networks (up to LTE Cat. And even LTE-U).

In Korea, they only plan to introduce such technologies. But after their implementation, the distribution of traffic will be close to 150 Mbps, and the acceptance - up to 600 Mbps.

It used to be possible to get such speed only at Wi-fi 806.11n points. But in most cases, network equipment did not allow such speed to be developed.

WiFi technology in the Samsung Galaxy S7 also surpasses the rest of the novelties. Here the speed reaches a maximum of 4.6 GB per second!

The operating system on the Samsung Galaxy S7 is the latest. Developed by Google Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

You can:

  • log in by simply touching the display;
  • manage application access (this is not in Android);
  • make payments in the Android Pay payment system;
  • use a smartphone without connecting it to charging for a long time;
  • open a lot of windows and not worry about the system freezing.
  • perform a better search;
  • manage OP (RAM);
  • create tasks for the Google Now on Tap voice assistant;
  • be able to connect USB Type-C and use the USB 3.1 standard;
  • and much more.

Shell TouchWiz complements Android 6. The set also includes exclusive applications provided by Samsung.

Other chips

The Samsung Galaxy S7 will get a few features, the standouts being Apple's 3D Touch technology (it lets your smartphone know how hard you press on the screen) and Vidid Photo (creates "live" photos). Vidid Photo allows you to create animated Gifs and share them with your friends on social networks (such as Twitter and Facebook).

The new generation of Samsung's flagships is doomed to success. The Galaxy S6, introduced exactly one year ago, received the most striking design of the smartphones in this line, but it was received rather coldly due to the general saturation of the market, as well as through the adoption of some unpopular decisions by the company. For example, the 2015 flagships lost their removable battery and microSD slot. The huge demand for the Galaxy S6 Edge took Samsung by surprise, and the company was unable to supply the consumer with the required number of units.

This year, though, the company is determined to make sure their new generation of flagships gets the success it deserves. It has focused its efforts on the most important aspects of today's smartphones - camera performance in low light conditions, autonomy and durability, while at the same time returning the microSD slot for expanding the internal memory.

We're now compiling a list of all the important, new features you'll come across in the new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

1.Dual Pixel Camera

New smartphones deserve new cameras, right? The freshly baked 12-megapixel module found in the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge is a clear signal that Samsung is leaving the race for megapixels, which it started along with other smartphone manufacturers. The pixel size is 1.4 microns, which will allow them to collect 95% more photons than their predecessors, significantly improving the quality of images in low light conditions. What's more, the new sensor uses the new Dual Pixel technology for faster and more accurate autofocus.

2. New generation mobile processors

Most countries in the world, including Russia, will receive the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge with the Exynos 8890 processor on board. The US and a few other markets will get Snapdragon 820 flagship models. No matter which option you buy, it's the best the manufacturers have to offer. Both chipsets are characterized by high performance, excellent power efficiency and, of course, provide many additional features.

3. 4GB DDR4 RAM

Taking a cue from the Galaxy Note 5, Samsung introduced the first models of its flagship Galaxy S line with 4GB of DDR4 RAM.

I note that your old laptop may have the same amount of RAM, but do not be upset about this. With the use of advanced technologies in production, the new type of memory show excellent performance. Applications loaded into this memory open instantly. Rest assured that both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge gadgets will cope with any tasks set before them.

4. More convenient to use, waterproof

Unlike the Galaxy S6, the flagships of 2016 received a cover curved at the edges for a more comfortable grip. It's also not every day you see a rugged, beautiful, and completely waterproof flagship. In fact, only the Sony Xperia line of devices comes to mind, but Samsung has managed to create a phone with a premium design and impressive specs. The company's new series of devices can be placed up to 1.5 meters deep for up to 30 minutes without damaging internal components. This find is for those who, for example, shoot in pools or just by the water.

5. Samsung Smart Switch with USB connector available out of the box

The South Korean company has made the process of switching from an old device to a new one extremely easy, whether you're using iOS, Windows, or Android. While we've had Smart Switch capabilities since the Galaxy S6, Samsung bundles the recently announced Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge with a USB connector to transfer your contacts, message history, app and game settings directly to the new smartphone.

6. Larger batteries

Samsung has optimized the power consumption of its own screens and processors to perfectly match the battery capacity of their mid-range and high-end phones. And this trend has already brought a number of impressive battery life results from the new generation of devices in the Galaxy A line.

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are no exception. Their 3000 mAh and 3600 mAh batteries, respectively, will be able to provide about two days of battery life.

7. Android Marshmallow with updated Edge panels interface

For now, the only way to get the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is to buy a Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge. The 2016 Galaxy A line of smartphones are powered by Lollipop, while last year's flagships are still waiting for the latest update.

8. 4G LTE Cat.12

Last year's premium smartphones support LTE Cat. 9 with transfer rates up to 450 Mbps, while their successors are LTE Cat.12. The new radio module built into the Exynos 8890 processor is capable of delivering download speeds of up to 600 Mbps.

9. Always-on display function

Both the flagship Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge received Quad HD Super AMOLED screens with the so-called “Always-on Display” feature. It allows you to quickly look at important information such as the current date and time, calendar, or notifications without waking your device. The always-on display feature can be turned off completely, and it automatically turns off when the phone is placed in a pocket.

10. Vulcan technology and gaming tools

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge received support for the new Vulcan API to improve the gaming experience. Samsung, moreover, has presented several solutions of its own, which should attract players. Game Launcher is an add-on that allows you to manage your energy consumption and notifications. In addition, users will be able to record and share their gaming experience with others. Vulcan technology provides the best performance for games with lower battery consumption.

11. Liquid cooling

We first learned about this from rumors. At the last presentation, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge did receive liquid cooling. This means that inside both smartphones, a coolant circulates through the tubes, which lowers the temperature of both the main processor and the graphics. The photo below shows the elements of this system.

12. microSD support

The 2015 flagships, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, were criticized for not having a microSD card slot. This year, the Korean manufacturer seems to have listened to consumers. After all, Samsung smartphones were popular for boasting removable batteries and expandable internal storage, and the company dropped both features last year.

Let's face it - in the era of 4K video and other media content that weighs extremely much, you can't always rely on cloud storage alone. MicroSD memory cards, moreover, are much cheaper, and the information on them is available at any time.

Open the left navigation bar in the camera app. To do this, click on the arrow in the upper left corner (if the smartphone is in a horizontal position) or in the upper right corner (in a vertical position). Here you will find a huge number of settings that you can explore and experiment with. We will discuss many of them below. Also tap on "Mode" on the bottom right side of the screen to see the available shooting modes.

2. View your photos

When you click on the camera settings icon we mentioned in the first tip, look for "Photo Viewer" which can be turned on. Just like on digital SLR or compact cameras, this feature allows you to quickly see how the picture turned out. This function is useful in order not to store a million unnecessary photos on your device.

3. Shoot like a pro

By selecting "Mode", you can select the "Pro" option to turn your smartphone into a professional camera with manual control of settings. Pro mode is heaven for photography enthusiasts. When enabled, the main camera screen is configured to show a second navigation setting on top of the main screen of the camera app, plus changes the options in the normal navigation bar. You can manually adjust the autofocus, change the white balance, change the optical image stabilization (ISO is 1250 in auto mode), adjust the shot speed and compensate the exposure. The navigation bar has been modified to add some context sensitive functionality. You can choose between multi-point autofocus or center autofocus, three metering modes (center, matrix and spot). You can also select RAW shooting from the settings menu.

4.CtakeRAW

You can enable RAW shooting using the camera settings menu. With this option enabled, the S7 automatically saves each photo in two types - as uncompressed and raw RAW .DNG and JPG files. To view RAW images, you will need additional software such as Adobe Lightroom. Such files cannot be viewed in the device itself, in addition, they can quickly take up precious memory. However, with RAW files you get so much information about the image that many poorly taken photos can be easily saved with a photo editor.

5. Manual shutter speed adjustment (especially in low light conditions)

In Pro mode, manual adjustment can be especially helpful in minimizing image blur. And that's why. Smartphone cameras often slow down the shutter speed by 1/5-1/15 second in low light conditions to maximize the amount of light entering. If you and the subject are both still, you can get a good picture, but often the pictures come out blurry. If you manually set the speed in the range of 1/30-1/60, you will have a better chance of getting a clear image. This tip will be even more helpful if you are shooting in RAW, as such images have more data and can be adjusted to compensate for poor exposure.

6. Turn on the lines

Turn on "Grid Lines" in the camera settings to get two options for the image. The first one allows you to use "Grid Lines" to follow the "Rule of Three". It means that you must place the object at the intersection point of the grid, since the viewer's eye first stops at them.

The second option for Instagram lovers with almost imperceptible square areas formed by lines superimposed on each other. You can view the resulting image in full, or you can choose a square photo optimized for a social network.

7. View your compositions

While you're aligning the image to grab the viewer's primary attention, keep an eye on what's in the background. Keep out foreign objects, tangled wires, cutlery, or even people passing through at the wrong time. Feel free to move the elements around or ask your subjects to move to the right place. Cleaning up the background and optimizing the composition will help your subject fit perfectly into the frame and make the image itself more convincing.

8. Lock exposure and focus

For more breathtaking photos, lock exposure and focus by tapping and holding on your point of interest. This allows you to adjust the composition while you adjust the exposure. In Pro mode, you can use manual focus and macro fine-tuning, as well as features that add versatility to the camera.

9. Take advantageHDRAuto

By enabling HDR Auto, you get all the benefits of high dynamic range images. One click automatically takes the best of the bright and dark parts of the scene to create a balanced image. If the subject is backlit, this is a great way to improve the image without using the flash.

10. Disabling flash

You may need a flash for some shots. But in most cases, the flash on a smartphone is not the right solution and very often it gives too much light for this environment. This is especially true if the distance to the subject is small, for example, when shooting food. The Galaxy S7 has a relatively wide open f/1.7 lens, which means it can handle low light without needing a flash. This is better than even the Apple iPhone 6s/6s Plus which have f/2.2 lenses.

11. Experiment with focus and background

Photo enthusiasts have long exploited the lens's ability to create shots with a sharply focused subject and a blurred background. Samsung makes it possible to take advantage of this option by prompting you to take a photo by choosing a focus point and changing the background. To select this feature, press Mode and select Selective Focus.

12. Avoid digital zoom

You should avoid using the digital zoom on your smartphone: it has the effect of cropping the photo so that clarity and detail is lost when you zoom in. If there is a need for digital zoom, use your fingers to zoom in or use the volume buttons on the S7 when shooting. If you cannot do without magnification, use an additional case for an external lens. It has a thread on the back to accept a wide angle or telephoto lens. Priced at around $120, the dual external lens makes the photo upscaling process the most viable.

13. Take photos on the move

14. Create a moving panorama

15. Capture motion with burst mode

While the burst mode is interesting on other devices, the S7 makes it very convenient thanks to its blazingly fast autofocus. Press and hold the volume up button to start burst shooting. Keep in mind that this mode only works in good lighting, it will not work in a darkened room.

16. Take photos and videos at the same time

Sometimes while shooting a video, you notice something that you would like to capture in a photo. Now you can take a picture of this frame without interrupting the video by pressing the round camera button located under the video stop button.

17. InChoose your photo aspect ratio and resolution

On the left navigation panel next to your image in the lower part of it, above the gear sign, you will find an icon with the aspect ratio and photo resolution. Samsung allows you to choose from six preset options, representing two photo resolutions and three aspect ratio options: 4:3 (standard 35mm photo), 16:9 - widescreen photo and 1:1 square. The latter is intended for those who like to post their photos on Instagram.

Changing the video resolution is also hidden in the settings menu. By default they are 1,920 x 1080 at 30 fps, so if you want UHD 4K 3840 x 2160 video, you need to change that in the settings.

18. Take easy selfies and choose your selfie look

If you want to take a selfie, then you will need to switch to the front camera. Click "Mode" in the lower right corner to select one of the 4 options available for the front camera. We have already mentioned these shooting mode options for changing the photo modes of the rear camera. A wide selfie lets you take a panorama from left to right. But in low light conditions, you can end up with a blurry image. You can use the front flash, but this can affect the final color, so experiment in different environments with the flash on and off. To take a selfie, place your finger on the heart rate monitor on the back or hold your smartphone upright. You can also choose one of the effects if you want to make your selfie unusual. For example, you can customize the shape of the face and eyes. Effects can be subtle, but beneficially changing the final photo.

19. Organize a live broadcast

In the era of live video, you can use your smartphone to stream with the rear or front camera. Click the "Mode" button to select this feature and host your content directly on YouTube.

20. Create video collages

The video collage feature can be used with both front and rear cameras. It allows you to create short videos (3,6,9 or 12 seconds) that can be easily shared on social networks. You can choose from 10 layouts. The final result can be saved and published as an MP4 file. The settings for this mode are located on the left navigation bar, where the timer button becomes contextual, showing options for length and aspect ratio in the layout.

21. Use a timer

The timer button can be customized according to your needs. Preset options are 2, 5 and 10 seconds, as well as 3 shots in a row. The last option is a guarantee that at least one of the photos will have everyone with their eyes open and looking at the camera, or at least in its direction.

22. Use a virtual shot to get a 360 degree view

Well, not exactly 360 degrees, but pretty close. The virtual shooting mode is available for the rear and front cameras and allows you to rotate the subject, which creates a vivid image of the selected subject. The effect you get will depend on how long you take the panoramic photo around the subject.

23. Choose your filters

If you want to add effects while shooting, the S7 makes it very easy. Click "Effect" at the top of the left navigation bar and choose from nine default filters. Other effects can be downloaded additionally. If you're in Pro mode, you get a different set of effects, but they're not available on the left navigation bar, but at the top of the Pro mode's right navigation bar.

24. Use buttons

For quick access to the camera, go to the settings menu of the camera application to enable quick access by double-clicking on the Home button. This is one of the most convenient ways to turn on the camera on smartphones that I've seen. You can take pictures by pressing the volume up and down buttons. Thus, you can take pictures much faster, capturing good moments. If you want to change the settings for these keys, for example to start capturing a video or use them to zoom in on an image, you can change this in the camera settings.

25. Use built-in editing tools

The Gallery app for S7 has many editing tools built into the system. Some of them are quite standard, such as contrast, brightness and color tone change. But there are others, in particular, the photo cropping tool allows you to cut out part of the picture and move it to another environment. I especially liked the drawing tool, which allows you to make notes on images.
