  • The size of the area and the height of the ceilings.
  • Air humidity.
  • Features and subtleties of the interior.

Non-woven wallpaper is in great demand. They easily fall on the ceiling and hide its invisible "sins". Vinyl wallpaper on a non-woven base is identical in properties to the previous ones. They include natural raw materials - cotton or silk. Such a seamless material is environmentally friendly and allows the surface to "breathe".

For dyeing ceiling wallpaper, carefully study the composition of the color scheme. Choose manufacturers with many years of experience in the market.

Suitable wallpaper for the kitchen: choose the ceiling

When choosing wallpaper for the kitchen, you should first take into account some of the features of this room, namely: temperature drops and humidity. Wallpaper is not a very durable material and sooner or later it will still begin to peel off in such conditions. Therefore, carefully study the properties of different wallpaper bases for long-term use.

Give preference to ceiling wallpaper with properties:

  • Moisture resistance. From time to time you will have to do wet cleaning of the surface.
  • Air permeability. This is a very important point to avoid the accumulation of condensation.
  • Fire resistance.

The listed requirements are met by wallpaper on a vinyl or non-woven base, liquid wallpaper with a special coating, glass wallpaper.

If the wallpaper on the ceiling has a pattern, choose a canvas covered with waterproof paints. Such a surface will need to be cleaned of grease and dust more than once.

How to choose wallpaper for a room with low ceilings

Wallpapering an apartment with low ceilings is not a problem. Modern design solutions and technologies allow you to visually hide all the imperfections of the room, make the space more voluminous and comfortable.

What should be emphasized:

  • Finishing ceiling material. Glossy wallpaper, suspended ceiling or mirror would be a good solution. Due to the reflective coating, the height of the room will visually increase. The full illusion compensates for the lack of wall heights.
  • Color palette. A winning version of the ceiling will be light cold shades of white - gray, pearl, light blue.
  • Interior items. In the case of low ceilings, surfaces and objects of the room in blue and green colors will help to visually beat the space.

For lighting the ceiling, it is better to choose spotlights. And along the main wall or along the entire perimeter, place several sconces with shades upward.

Walls in rooms with low ceilings should be rationally decorated with brighter colors. It is possible to use tapestries with a narrow vertical strip.

Photo wallpaper 3D on the ceiling: choose or not

Photo wallpaper with 3D effect on the ceiling is a great technique to visually make the room more voluminous and "lively". Most often, they prefer photowall-paper with the image of space, flowers, birds, abstraction, the sky with stars.

Most often, such photowall-paper is glued:

  • In the bedroom;
  • Living room;
  • Kitchen.

An important role in the transmission of a volumetric image is played by the color scheme of the picture. Overly saturated and bright colors reduce the space, dark ones create a gloomy environment, and dull colors will not justify the desired result.

In rooms with a small area, choose a wallpaper with an emphasis on cold colors - this will visually raise the height of the ceilings!

3D wallpaper is not a cheap pleasure, but the effect justifies itself.

Thanks to the chic selection of colors and textures, such wallpapers can be used in the design of any room. They allow you to create not only an atmosphere of comfort, but also visually improve the perception of space, making it voluminous and unusual.

What are they?

Today, ceiling wallpapers are presented in a large assortment, ranging from affordable cheap models to expensive sophisticated options. All of them differ in surface quality, structure and operating conditions.

Depending on the manufacturing technology, wallpaper for the ceiling is divided into:

  • Single layer smooth.

  • Structural. They are made on the basis of two layers of paper. The drawing on their canvases is applied using screen printing.

  • Photo wallpaper. The most common type that designers often use for ceilings. Their composition consists of separate parts, assembled into one whole on the ceiling.

Ultra-moisture resistant wallpapers are also available for use in kitchens and bathrooms. The surface of such material is textured and well cleaned of dirt and dust.

As for other rooms, in which a constant temperature regime, then embossed canvases with a relief structure will be the right choice for them.

They are often used to decorate the ceiling in a hall, and are also indispensable for decorating an uneven ceiling.

For small and low rooms, thin wallpapers that imitate stone or ceramic tiles are specially produced.

Mirror compositions with silk threads also look good in this situation.

Material

In modern design, there are many ways to finish the ceiling, but wallpapers are in greatest demand, as they make the room original and cozy. In order to satisfy the needs of even the most demanding customers, manufacturers are constantly developing new sketches of products and replenishing the range of these products with unusual canvases.

At the moment, there are five main types of ceiling wallpaper.: non-woven, vinyl, liquid, paper and fiberglass. Their distinguishing feature is the material used in the manufacture.

Non-woven wallpaper is considered the most popular in ceiling design. They are made of dense material, therefore they are able to hide defects on surfaces well. In addition, the canvases play the role of additional protection against ceiling cracking. Such products do not get wet, therefore they are perfect for painting.

In order for the room to be gorgeously transformed, it is enough to choose the desired shade of wallpaper and create a texture with a pattern on it.

Vinyl products, which are a combination of two layers, are in no way inferior in their characteristics. The basis of such wallpaper is paper or non-woven, and the surface is covered with polyvinyl chloride. The canvases have high performance properties and can be both textured and smooth. The material is resistant to moisture and chemical attack.

Recently, fiberglass wallpaper has also begun to be used for ceiling decoration. They are made from glass yarns by weaving. Additionally, the products include modified starch. Products can be painted or varnished. The main advantage of such wallpapers is their naturalness, in addition, the canvases are not afraid of mechanical damage and can reliably serve up to 30 years.

One of the varieties of decorative plaster is liquid wallpaper. They are distinguished by excellent adhesion to the ceiling surface, elasticity. Well suited for finishing rooms with irregularities and a large number of corners. They are made from ecological products - cellulose and rayon. Such wallpapers are capable of accumulating heat, are soundproof and vapor-proof.

Paper-backed canvases usually consist of two layers of paper. This type of wallpaper is the most economical for decoration. The main disadvantages of the material are considered to be low strength and getting wet, in addition, the wallpaper can stretch during the gluing process.

The size

An important indicator when buying ceiling wallpaper will be their size. Classic product options are rolls 25 * 106, 17 * 53 or 125 * 75.

But for decorating the ceiling, it is best to give preference to long canvases, this will help to economically spend material and save you from scraps. As a rule, rolls with a length of more than 100 m are chosen for this.

It is worth noting that the size of the wallpaper may vary depending on the type of wallpaper. For example, textile compositions are produced from 53 to 80 cm in width and from 10 to 50 meters in length. For jute cloths, the indicator will be different - 95 * 770 cm, and fiberglass can reach a length of 50 meters and a width of 1.5 meters.

Colors

The main detail in the interior is the color of the wallpaper; the creation of a favorable atmosphere in the office or home depends on the correct choice of their shade.

The design of the ceiling, walls, flooring should be in harmony with the furniture and the general style of the room.

  • The main vacation spot is considered bedroom, therefore, the harmony of tranquility should prevail in its interior. For finishing the ceilings in this room, beige, yellow or orange tones are suitable. For more energetic people who do not like monotony, wallpaper in pastel shades can be glued.

  • In the kitchen an atmosphere of good mood must constantly reign. Therefore, it is better for her to purchase canvases in yellow, red or orange.

  • Children's room is drawn up taking into account the nature and preferences of the child. It is advisable to select natural shades for the ceiling in this room and avoid color contrasts. Alternatively, it can be white, beige or yellow.

Decor

Any ceiling design should be beautifully presented, therefore, at the end of the decoration, various decorations are used. Decoupage looks unusual with ceiling wallpaper, which is a pattern with thematic drawings or patterns.

This type of design, as a rule, suits the classic style and is chosen by people who appreciate extravagance. You can also add stucco elements to the ceiling, they look original on the ledges under the chandeliers.

Often on the ceiling, wallpaper is combined with molding. These are special framing borders. Moldings come in both straight and angular shapes. Their use is endless, due to their unusual appearance, such design elements allow you to decorate the ceiling in an original way and divide the room into zones.

If wallpaper for painting was used as a decoration, they can be painted with compositions that imitate a starry sky with clouds. Pictures with an angel on the ceiling also look unusual.

How to glue wallpaper to the ceiling?

Ceiling preparation:

Before gluing wallpaper to the ceiling, you need to properly prepare it. Ceiling preparation begins with cleaning the previous finishing material. If the old wallpaper does not lag behind the wall well, then use a wet roller. If the previous ceiling covering is enamel paint, then simply wash the surface with soap and sandpaper. Rinse off limescale with hot water and a cloth.

It is only necessary to putty the ceiling in case of large defects. But you still have to prime the ceiling, this will improve the adhesion of the wallpaper to the ceiling, so the durability of your repair will increase.

Make preliminary markings on the ceiling, so that the wallpaper is glued parallel to the rays of light (so the joints will be less noticeable). If you are going to glue wallpaper for painting, then this is optional.

Glue preparation:

Prepare the glue half an hour before gluing the wallpaper, according to the manufacturer's instructions. Make sure that a lump does not form in it - they will be visible under the wallpaper. To avoid them, stir the glue thoroughly for 10 minutes. Sticking wallpaper to the ceiling should be done with a viscous, but not thick glue. Choose glue according to the type of your wallpaper.

We glue the first canvas:

If you are using paper wallpaper, after you have applied it with glue, give it a couple of minutes to soften. If the wallpaper is flesiline or imported, you need to glue the ceiling.

Use a brush or roller to apply the glue. Apply glue from the middle to the edges.

It will be problematic for one person to glue wallpaper on the ceiling, since one person is standing on the floor and handing over the impregnated wallpaper, while the other, standing on a ladder, glues it.

Connect the end of the canvas with a previously drawn marking line, be sure to overlap the wall by 1-2 cm. Along the entire width, press the center of the canvas, and run your hands from the center to the edge, thereby pressing the wallpaper. Do this with clean hands or a rubber roller.

We glue the rest of the canvases:

All other canvases are glued joint-to-joint with the first one. Make sure that the joints stick well. If glue is squeezed out at the joints, then immediately wipe it with a clean cloth, otherwise yellow spots will remain. With good adhesives, this will not happen, but it is better to warn yourself.

After all the work is done, make sure that there are no drafts and temperature differences in the room.

Distinctive properties

  • This is a structured ceiling wallpaper.
  • The relief is rolled - the wallpaper is rolled through special rollers.
  • The reverse side of the relief is visible on the wrong side of the canvas.
  • They are very strong and durable.

Manufacturers also produce two types of non-woven wallpaper just for painting.: painted and unpainted. Wallpaper is usually painted in light colors - green, yellow, blue, pink.

Note! After applying paint to painted wallpaper, its shade will change slightly. However, the latest non-woven ceiling wallpaper has the advantage of being able to withstand repeated repainting without losing its strength and texture properties.

Such wallpapers can be:

  • plain;
  • with a very small, almost monochromatic pattern;
  • with an extruded small pattern;
  • with a geometric or floral large pattern;
  • multicolor.

Ceiling wallpaper with a pattern is usually used in living rooms, children's rooms, and bedrooms.

The use of non-woven wallpaper for repairs

  • Surface preparation.
  • Cutting panels.
  • And only the sticker itself is peculiar: we apply glue only to the ceiling.

Note! The color of the ceiling on which we will glue the wallpaper must be uniform, because the non-woven base is slightly transparent.

Non-woven wallpaper coloring technology

We will paint the glued interlining on the ceiling only after the glue has completely dried - in a day. At high humidity or temperatures below 15 degrees, this time increases slightly.

Coloring these wallpapers can be done up to 7 times (see)

To do this, use paints:

  • water-based;
  • latex;
  • acrylic.

Dyeing process

  • We will cover the floor with plastic wrap or newspapers.
  • We will paste over the borders of the area to be painted with masking tape.
  • Pour the paint into a paint tray and carefully roll the roller in the paint so that it absorbs more evenly, but does not drain from the tool raised to the ceiling.
  • Paint hard-to-reach corners with a brush.
  • We paint the ceiling wallpaper from the back side with latex water-dispersion paint. Then, after drying, we will glue it to the ceiling. Only the non-woven for the ceiling will be painted over, and the structure will still be white.
  • We paint the ceiling itself with bright paint, intended for subsequent wallpapering. After drying, we glue the wallpaper to the ceiling: now the color shines slightly through the translucent non-woven wallpaper.
  • We lightly process the embossed part of the already pasted wallpaper with a hard (lint-free) rubber roller without pressing so that the paint does not get into the recesses.
  • By combining wallpapers of different colors, we can achieve an imitation of fashionable multi-level ceilings.

Unusual ways of painting non-woven wallpaper

Design of ceilings with non-woven wallpaper

Along the perimeter, half a meter from the wall, glue non-woven ceiling wallpaper of the same color, and the rest of the space in a different color.

  • The division of the ceiling is also popular when designating functional areas. For example, over the head of a bed made of non-woven wallpaper with a pattern, and let the rest of the ceiling be plain.
  • The glossy lacquered ceiling base gently diffuses light into dark rooms.
