Openings in the bathroom door for ventilation. Ventilated bathroom door

Fresh air in the house is the key to the well-being of the whole family, because in an unventilated room there is a high concentration of carbon dioxide and oxygen deficiency. In addition, toxic substances released by finishing materials and household chemicals can accumulate in the air. And, if in living quarters the problem of the flow of clean air is solved by simple ventilation, then in the bathroom and toilet the situation is different.

Not so long ago, the arrangement of ventilation in the bathroom did not attach much importance. This is not due to the illiteracy of the builders, but to the fact that over the past couple of decades, the approach to repair has completely changed. New finishing materials and building structures have appeared, which have good heat-insulating, waterproofing and sound-insulating qualities. On the one hand, this makes the bathroom completely absolutely comfortable and completely intimate space, and on the other hand, it leaves no chance for fresh air to "break through" into the room.

Earlier, when there were cracks in the wooden windows, and the doors in the rooms did not close tightly, the natural flow of air took place on its own. Today, the organization of air exchange requires a different approach. For example, in a bathroom, in addition to forced ventilation, you should take care of a door that does not impede the flow of fresh air.

Materials (edit)

Glass doors are perfect for the bathroom in terms of hydro and thermal insulation. They tolerate high air humidity, exposure to hot steam and temperature changes well. However, the glass door practically does not allow air to pass through (if it does not have special holes for this).

Doors made of plastic are similar in their properties to glass: they perfectly retain heat and do not allow moisture to pass through. Being constantly in conditions of high humidity, they do not deform or collapse. At the price, plastic doors are much cheaper than glass or wooden ones, but they are inferior to them in aesthetic characteristics.

Doors made of natural wood are one of the most expensive options, but the most successful in terms of providing room ventilation. It is known that wood does not tolerate moisture and temperature changes very well, therefore a high-quality wooden door intended for installation in a bathroom must be treated with antiseptic agents and covered with several layers of varnish.

Laminate, chipboard and MDF doors are considered a budget option. They can be installed either to the bathroom or to any other room in the house. For such doors, there is usually the possibility of arranging the ventilation holes with your own hands. Recycled materials are coated with special solutions, so they tolerate close proximity to water well.

Types of ventilation in the door

According to the rules, there should be a small gap between the lower part of the interior door and the floor through which natural ventilation is carried out. In fact, apartment owners rarely leave this gap, fearing that in the event of a flood, water will spread throughout the apartment. Therefore, many use various seals or equip a sill before entering the bathroom. For this reason, manufacturers began to produce bathroom doors with built-in ventilation. There are two options.

Ventilation grates

The design of such a door is quite interesting: in its lower part there is a small window into which the grille itself is inserted - a frame with flat curtains located at an angle. Thus, peeping through such a grate will not work, and fresh air in the room will circulate freely. Ventilation grilles for doors are made of metal and plastic and have a variety of designs.

Ventilation holes (rings)

This is a simpler and cheaper option. Through ventilation holes, as well as the grill, are located at the bottom of the door in the amount of three to four pieces. Plastic rings are inserted into the holes, which are responsible for the aesthetic component of the design. On sale you can find "advanced" models equipped with a protective noise-absorbing mesh.

As practice shows, finding a ventilated door in a store that is suitable for your bathroom is not an easy task. The choice of models is very limited (whereas, for example, it is not difficult to find a metal front door with ventilation). Therefore, we recommend that you equip the door with ventilation yourself.

To make holes for the ventilation grill or rings, it is best to purchase a door made of wood or wood processing materials. To cut a glass door, you need professional equipment, but it is difficult to predict how a plastic door will behave if you start drilling it.

If you don't want to bother buying a new door or fiddle with ventilation grilles and rings, you can use the old, proven method. Just trim the door down a couple of centimeters. If you do everything carefully, then this will not cause damage to the external appearance of the room, and the effect will be no worse than that of modern types of ventilation.

How to make ventilation in the door with your own hands?

One of the most effective ways to organize fresh air ventilation in a bathroom is a door ventilation grill. In this section, we will show you how to install it on your bathroom door yourself.

  • First, take a ruler and measure the ventilation grills you purchased (usually two are included).
  • Then mark the door with the markings along which you will saw the hole. In this case, 1-2 mm must be added to the length and width of the grating.
  • Cut a hole in the door leaf of the appropriate size (tools for work should be selected depending on the material of the door).
  • Install ventilation grilles on both sides of the opening. Some models are designed for fastening to construction glue, while others can be fixed with self-tapping screws.

This is how you can quickly and easily install an important element of fresh air ventilation in the bathroom!

The lack of fresh air in the house can cause the tenants to feel unwell, since carbon dioxide accumulates in a room that is not ventilated for a long time, and a sufficient amount of oxygen is required for a person's normal well-being. In addition, household chemicals and finishing materials release toxins into the air, which, accumulating, can also be harmful to health.

If we talk about ventilation in the bathroom, then the situation is even more serious. In the absence of air movement in a humid environment, molds are formed, the surfaces of walls, doors, furniture accumulate moisture and become unusable.

The problem of ventilation in bathrooms has become especially relevant over the past few years in connection with the appearance on the market of new noise, hydro and thermal insulation materials. Finishing with such materials makes the bathroom more comfortable and beautiful, but many of them do not let fresh air into the room. When installing a fan in a bathroom, effective ventilation of the room will occur only when the door is open, since a draft is needed for the fan to work well. According to the rules, there should be a small gap between the bottom of the door and the floor, but most people find this approach inconvenient and unaesthetic and install doors that close very tightly, leaving no gaps.

All these problems can be solved by a ventilation grill installed on the door. Today on sale you can find doors with an already built-in grille or with special ventilation holes-rings. But if the door has already been installed and there is a problem with air circulation, then you just need to purchase and install the grill.

Types of ventilation grilles

Today, on the market for construction products, you can find many different variations of ventilation grilles. All these designs have differences in shape, purpose, design and color materials, sizes, prices.

The primary classification feature that determines the types of grilles is the method and place of their installation. On this basis, they are divided into:

  • supply air;
  • internal;
  • outdoor.

For installation on the door, supply grilles are used. They are made from the following materials:

  • aluminum;
  • plastic;
  • wood;
  • steel and others.

Ventilation grilles made of plastic have high corrosion resistance and reasonable price. But when direct sunlight hits them, the plastic loses its attractive appearance, and over time it can begin to deteriorate. Therefore, plastic grilles are best used for interior doors inside the house.

Aluminum gratings are quite durable, lightweight, not afraid of sunlight, but they are somewhat more expensive than plastic ones.

Wooden grilles are designed for indoor installation. Their advantages: environmental safety, external presentability, which allows them to harmoniously fit into the interior of the room. However, it should be borne in mind that natural wood requires special regular maintenance, in the absence of which the product may lose its appearance and deteriorate. The cost of wooden ventilation grilles is high in comparison with other analogues.

Steel gratings are heavy and expensive, but at the same time are considered the most durable and durable. Such structures are most often installed on front doors, since they are too heavy for interior doors.

When installing a grill on the front door, you must choose a model with a protective mosquito net so that mosquitoes and flies do not enter the house.

Ventilation grilles let in very little light and practically exclude the possibility of viewing, it is impossible to see the person behind the door through such a structure. In shape, these products can be round, square or rectangular, but the latter option is the most common.

Design features

The main part of the structure is equipped with V-shaped lamellas, fixed on a frame made of plastic or metal, and the counterpart is already without lamellae. Despite the fact that this design is quite simple, such products effectively perform their function, maintaining an optimal microclimate in the rooms. Installation of the grille will prevent the appearance of mold, mildew and high humidity.

Rectangular door grilles

Rectangular grilles are installed on kitchen doors, bathrooms and toilets. This allows the air flow to circulate properly inside the rooms. In addition, such products are also used for installation in window sills, so that warm air masses emanating from heating radiators are evenly distributed throughout the room.

These structures are made of high quality and durable plastic. Some models are equipped with insect screens or a movable airflow damper. Also, if desired, you can install a grill with a built-in fan - in this case, the ventilation effect will be the best. Today, there are various color and design options on sale, so for each door you can choose a grille that matches the color and style.

Round grates

The design of round grilles is practically no different from rectangular ones. Such products are also equipped with a mosquito net, can have movable dampers or a built-in fan. The size of round structures, as a rule, does not exceed 15-20 cm in diameter, and for their installation, round holes are made in the door in size. Products up to 10 cm in diameter are installed at the bottom of the door several pieces in a row. Larger grilles can be placed on the sides of the bottom or top of the door. In the presence of moisture and mold inside furniture cabinets, such grilles are installed on the cabinet doors. In this case, glue and mounting ribs are used for installation.

Mounting

If there is no proper air circulation in the office production room, as well as in a private bathroom, kitchen or bathroom, ventilation grilles must be installed on the door. You can do this yourself or ask for help from specialists who will perform the following steps:

  1. The building code will determine the optimal size of the grille required for your door. The size depends on the internal dimensions of the room and its purpose.
  2. They will make a hole in the door of the required size and install the grill.

For self-installation, you will need the following tools:

  • Ruler and pencil;
  • jigsaw;
  • screwdriver or glue.

Work order:

  1. First, using a ruler, you need to take the dimensions of the purchased grilles (as a rule, there are always two of them in the kit).
  2. Next, on the door, you need to mark the places where the grilles will be located. In this case, the holes should be approximately 1-2 mm larger than the length and width.
  3. Then four round holes are made at the corners of the marking with a large drill.
  4. Insert the jigsaw blade into one of the holes and carefully cut out a rectangle of the appropriate size along the marking. You need to cut carefully so that the material does not break off. Most room doors are filled with paper honeycomb inside. It should be borne in mind that the jigsaw is suitable for doors made of wood or wood processing materials. For other materials, appropriate tools are used.
  5. Now attach the grates to the two sides of the hole made. If they enter too tight, then enlarge the hole by sharpening with a file or a rasp.
  6. If the instructions for use of the product indicate that the grille is attached with glue, then they will be attached using construction glue. Before glue is applied to the surface of the door, it must be treated with a cleaning agent to remove dirt and grease. Otherwise, the grill may come off after a while. Most models for doors are fixed with self-tapping screws.

Many people think that the bathroom is the cleanest and safest in an apartment or house. But this is not the case. During operation, a lot of moisture is formed in it. Over time, it, finding no way out, settles on the surrounding walls, ceiling, towels and causes mold or mildew. To prevent this from happening, you need to correctly install the ventilation system in the bathroom in advance.

Thanks to modern technology, you can find different options for exhaust devices. They can be both complex, multicomponent, and ordinary: ventilation grilles on a wooden door to the bathroom.

Exhaust ventilation installation

When the bathroom has an area of 15 square meters and more, then it is advisable to install exhaust ventilation. The main work in this system will be performed by a centrifugal fan. It is installed in the ventilation shaft. Installation does not require skills, and you can install it yourself without any problems after reading the instructions.

Exhaust system

Before starting installation work, you need to check the ventilation shaft for traction. The centrifugal fan is installed exclusively in a vertical position and is inserted deep into the hole. It is fixed to the wall by means of self-tapping screws. When the installation is complete, power is applied to the exhaust system. To do this, lead the power cable and install a switch in a suitable place. It is recommended to connect the wires to the general network in a de-energized state.

Another condition for the installation of exhaust ventilation will be the installation of a glass door in the bathroom. On the one hand, it perfectly withstands temperature changes, it is not affected by hot steam and humid air. On the other hand, due to its tightness, the natural exit of moist air does not occur through such a door, which can lead to its accumulation in the room. Therefore, an exhaust ventilation must be installed in a bathroom with a glass door.

Installing the overhead fan

In small bathrooms, you can ensure the removal of humid air by installing an overhead fan. The main point here is the exact choice of the power of the device, otherwise there will be no sense from it. To determine the power, you need to use the calculations of specialists. For a family of three, the bathroom area must be multiplied by six. The resulting number is the required fan power. When more than three people live in an apartment, the area is multiplied by eight.

Attachable fan

Fan installation begins with box assembly. Power is connected to it through a small cross-section cable using contact terminals. The next step is to fix the box of the device. For this, no accessories are required, since the base is equipped with special latches. When the installation work is completed, check the operation of the unit. Overhead fans have different designs and will fit into the bathroom interior.

The fan can be installed both vertically and horizontally. It can be safely mounted on a suspended ceiling.

Creation of ventilation holes

Ventilation in the door installed in the bathroom is one of the elements of the ventilation system. It may look like a small hole, thanks to which humid air is removed from the room. In some apartments and houses, such holes are the only solution to the problem.

Air vents in the door

Ventilation holes are often made in the lower part of the door leaf and represent a through window in the form of a circle or oval. To decorate such windows, you can use a special decor in the form of rings. Decoration elements can be made of various materials (metal, plastic, wood), depending on the type of door. Work on the creation of ventilation holes is carried out in the following order:

  • to begin with, the markup is done. The decorative ring is applied at the bottom of the door and outlined with a pencil. For high-quality ventilation in the bathroom, at least three holes must be installed in the door leaf;
  • the next step is to drill the holes. This is done with a drill with a crown;
  • at the end of the drilling work, rough areas should be carefully sanded with sandpaper. When the surface is well cleaned, it can be varnished. Thanks to him, the door will not deform and swell from moisture;
  • the final stage is the installation of decorative rings.

The decorative rings for the ventilation openings come in a variety of variations. Nowadays, in addition to simple and aesthetic rings, you can find components with a mesh, covered with soundproofing material or soundproofing.

A variety of decorative rings

Round holes in the door are not the only solution to ventilation in the bathroom. In everyday use, you can find a kind of lattice. Unlike rings, this system has tilted blinds, which prevents drafts from entering through it.

Ventilation grill at the bottom of the door

The grille is an order of magnitude larger than the ventilation rings. On the one hand, this provides better ventilation in the bathroom, and on the other, it is very conspicuous. To smooth out this drawback, you should choose a lattice exclusively in the color of the door leaf.

Installation of the ventilation grill is carried out in the same way as for the holes. Only it should be located exclusively in an upright position .——-

Bathroom door material

Due to the huge choice of materials for the manufacture of interior doors, one can single out those that are particularly suitable for bathrooms.

Natural wood doors. One of the most suitable options, since the ventilation of the room in this case is much better. To prevent the door leaf from being damaged by humid air and steam, it is necessary to treat the surface with several layers of varnish.

Glass canvases perfectly tolerate hot steam, moisture, but seal the room hermetically. In this case, it makes no sense to talk about natural ventilation. It is necessary to install a forced one.

Plastic doors, like glass doors, are not afraid of moisture and retain internal heat well. In the price category, they are cheaper than their predecessors, but they do not have an aesthetic appearance.

Budget doors made of chipboard, MDF are perfect for any interior designs. Since their surface is coated with special solutions, they can easily tolerate exposure to humid air.

Ventilation is a prerequisite for creating a normal bathroom environment. Absolutely everyone can build the necessary device. The above options are perfect for household rooms. Provided that all installation work was carried out in compliance with all norms and rules, the removal of moist air will be carried out efficiently and smoothly. Therefore, if there is no particular confidence in one's abilities, then it is necessary to attract specialists to carry out such work.

Modern houses are being built using high-tech building materials. As a result, the apartment becomes a sealed room with windows and doors, the design of which is designed to reduce the penetration of noise, dust and drafts.

Air vents in doors

For ventilation of the apartment, special openings are provided in the doors, which are often decorated with grilles. Sometimes air is circulated through a small gap that remains between the door and the floor.

The ventilation holes in the doors must be located according to certain rules:

  1. They must be in dry rooms - bedroom, living room, study.
  2. Exhaust openings are made in rooms with a high level of humidity - in the toilet, bathroom and kitchen.

A competent ventilation device will ensure a constant supply of fresh air.

And so that there are no obstacles in its path, additional ventilation holes are made in the interior doors.

Ventilated bathroom door

Ventilation holes in the rooms must be mandatory, because in this room the air humidity is always increased. There are several options:

  1. Ventilation rings- they cover the through holes drilled at the bottom of the door, they look neat and beautiful. For their manufacture, wood, metal, plastic are used. The simplest rings form ventilation holes and nothing else. But you can buy rings with a protective mesh or sound-absorbing properties. The latter are often installed in the bedroom.
  2. Ventilation grates- they are mounted at the bottom of the door and can have an interesting design. Their main advantage is that the air does not pass through them directly, which means that there will be no drafts in your apartment.
  3. Door undercut- performed in such a way that a small gap remains when closing. The cut point is closed with a special end edge.

If you are completely satisfied with the bathroom door, you can complement it with ventilation ducts, which are sold separately. In all other cases, it is better to buy a bathroom door with ventilation.

Interior doors with ventilation grill

Doors equipped with a ventilation grill are a ready-made and convenient solution that is used in such premises as:

  • Bathrooms;
  • Toilets;
  • Showers;
  • Changing rooms;
  • Industrial premises;
  • Laboratories.

Ventilation grilles with horizontal louvers are designed for free air circulation between rooms. They can be of any shape, size and color, located at different heights.

The presence of a ventilation grill on the interior door prevents the formation of condensation and ensures long-term operation of paints and varnishes and other coatings.

Fireproof doors with ventilation grill

These products provide fire protection and adequate ventilation in confined spaces. Fire ventilation allows you to organize the safe evacuation of people in the event of a fire and to avoid poisoning with hazardous combustion products.

Fire doors with a ventilation grill are installed where constant air ventilation and compliance with fire safety requirements are important. Such objects include:

  • Enterprises and organizations;
  • Children's institutions;
  • Medical institutions;
  • Vaults of securities;
  • Library funds.

Have you ever read about?
You can find out about all the main factors of protection and additional means of protection.

The ventilation grilles in the doors have two functions:

  1. Providing air exchange in the room.
  2. Termination of air access in case of fire.

The functionality of the doors is successfully combined with their design: the product organically complements any interior of the room.

Sanitary doors with ventilation grill

A sanitary door equipped with a ventilation grill is an interior partition, complemented by an air-permeable frame. The latter consists of two slats, one of which has curtains. They provide:

  • Redistribution of air between adjacent rooms, which creates excellent ventilation.
  • Visual obstruction - curtains exclude any view.
  • Maintaining the attractive appearance of the door. The grille is made in the same design as the product as a whole.

The fact that bathroom doors should be moisture resistant is out of the question. But this is the protection of the door itself from high humidity. But it turns out that the very same door closes it inside the room.

Thus provoking the fogging of surfaces, fungus on the walls and other troubles. There is of course an air duct in the bathroom. True, he does not always cope with his task. And the reason may not be blockages in the structure, but the lack of air movement in the room - after all, the door is tightly closed.

It is not convenient to keep the bathroom door ajar. But you can equip it with special ventilation holes for this case. They are usually made at the bottom of the bathroom door. There are several options.

Ventilation rings on the bathroom door

You can equip the bathroom door with ventilation rings. The lining rings will close the through holes drilled at the bottom of the door - it will be neat. And even beautiful, since the rings are of different designs so that you can pick up under the door. Materials: wood, plastic, metal.

The simplest ventilation rings, which are installed in the bathroom door, organize ventilation "holes" - nothing more. But you can buy rings with a protective mesh, and even sound-absorbing ones. By the way, ventilation rings of the latter type are often installed in bedrooms: the holes in them are closed with material that allows air to pass through, but there is no noise.

Ventilation grilles for the bathroom door

The ventilation grill is also located at the bottom of the bathroom door. And it can also have a very interesting design. The advantage of good ventilation grilles is that the air does not go through them directly - that is, there are no drafts. Although, in any case, it will not blow too much.

Bathroom door undercut

Well, and the most inconspicuous option: undercut doors. At the bottom, the bathroom door is trimmed slightly so that even when closed, there is a small gap. And the place of the cut is closed with a special end edge.

If you are satisfied with your bathroom doors, you can simply retrofit them with ventilation ducts: these products are sold separately. But if you decide to buy a new bathroom door, choose a product with already installed ventilation ducts.
