Every gardener will tell you that growing fruits and vegetables in home gardens is a very troublesome business, which is often associated with the use of potent chemicals.

This is necessary to protect the plants themselves and their fruits from pests and diseases that lie in wait for the harvest at literally every step. One of these "enemies" is the aphid - an unpleasant insect that causes many problems for gardeners and gardeners.

But most lovers of homemade vegetables and fruits prefer to use pest control that do not harm human health. Such a tool is baking soda, used by housewives in everyday life when preparing various dishes and for cleaning. How can soda help with aphids, what are the rules for its use?

Baking soda or sodium bicarbonate is a white powder that can crystallize in high humidity conditions without losing its properties. It is used in the preparation of various pastries as a baking powder and acidity regulator in dishes. The shelf life of baking soda is not limited, and eating in compliance with permissible dosages is completely safe for health.

There are many uses for this product in the garden. Baking soda helps protect plants from pests and reduce soil acidity. It is completely safe for plants, therefore it can be used for processing both young and adult shrubs, trees and vegetables. In addition, it does not harm bees and other beneficial insects, does not have any effect on pollen and does not harm the crop.

It is important not to confuse baking soda with soda ash or sodium carbonate, which are highly alkaline and are used to remove stains from laundry, stovetops, and other heavily soiled surfaces.

Soda ash belongs to substances of hazard class 3, contact with it causes irritation and burns of the mucous membranes and skin, so gloves must be worn when working with it. It is most often used to control unwanted grass and weeds, as when it comes into contact with the leaves, it causes a burn and subsequent wilting of the plant.

But if you dilute soda ash in the proportion suggested in this video, you can also process plants in the garden with this solution.

In order for spraying plants with baking soda to be effective, you must adhere to the following rules:

  1. It is impossible to prepare the solution in aluminum dishes or PVC containers. It is best to use enamelware;
  2. Water for the preparation of the solution to use the most pure water without impurities;
  3. Use the prepared solution within 3 hours;
  4. Do not allow the solution to heat above 50 degrees, otherwise it will lose most of its useful properties.

Using soda against aphids on currants

Aphids are a ubiquitous pest that does not spare trees, shrubs, or flowers. Therefore, the owners of gardens and summer cottages are in constant search of effective means for pest control, one of which is soda against aphids.

It has long been used to process currants, berries and fruit trees. Currant bushes in the spring are treated with a soap and soda composition, which is very simple to prepare.

To do this, grate the most ordinary laundry soap, anger it with boiled water and mix thoroughly. Cool the resulting solution and add baking soda in an amount of 2 tbsp. spoons for every liter of water.

As for the amount of soap, it can be arbitrary, the most important thing is that the resulting solution provides the desired stickiness of the soda to the leaves and stems. Bushes are sprayed with this solution even before the buds open. On the day of preparation. It is best to process in cloudy weather or in the evening.

Treatment of roses against aphids

Wiping the leaves and spraying them with a soda solution helps reduce the likelihood of rose bushes getting a fungus and saves from aphids. For prevention purposes, it is recommended to spray with a solution prepared from 2 tablespoons of baking soda per 5 liters.

The first treatment with such a solution is carried out 2 weeks after the removal of winter shelters, even if there are no signs of damage, and the bushes look quite healthy. The second and all subsequent sprayings are done every 14 days and as needed.

In case of infection of plants with aphids, spray the bushes every other day. You can also wipe individual leaves of the plant with this solution more often if the lesions are not total, but focal.

Tree soda

For the treatment of fruit trees (pears, peaches, apple trees, apricots, etc.), especially if they have already started fruiting, soda is almost the only way to combat the disease. no chemicals can be used.

You need to prepare a spray solution as follows: dilute 75 g of baking soda in 10 liters of water, mix well and treat the trees with this solution. A solution of this concentration is also suitable for processing vegetable crops and shrubs.

In addition to getting rid of annoying aphids, this product will help prevent the appearance of rot on cucumbers, zucchini, eggplant and bell peppers. The frequency of application of soda solutions must be adjusted independently, depending on the degree of damage to plants.

Aphids are a malicious enemy of garden, garden and indoor plants. It can do a lot of harm if left unchecked. To destroy large colonies of aphids, there are various chemicals.

However, any insecticide can be dangerous to other insects, birds, animals, even humans. Therefore, experienced gardeners and flower growers prefer to use folk, environmentally friendly methods. Fortunately, there are many of their recipes.

Before you start fighting against harmful insects, it is advisable to study the features of the use of different means. This knowledge will increase the chances of success and help save time and effort.

What should be taken into account:

  1. Particular attention should be paid to young leaves, shoots, flowers, since aphids live on young tender greenery.
  2. If you exterminate aphids in the area, you also need to exterminate black ants, which are its peddlers. Large red ants, on the contrary, should not be touched - they destroy pests.
  3. Using even folk remedies, do not be too lazy to study them. For example, it is undesirable for a soap solution to enter the soil, and some herbal infusions in strong concentrations can cause burns in plants and even be dangerous to humans.

Most of the folk remedies are not dangerous, if they enter the soil, they additionally perform the function of fertilizer, and a numerous small enemy will be destroyed.

Solutions with soap and ash

For many housewives, the fight against aphids with folk remedies is a soapy solution. Indeed, this is an effective and economical way. Soap solution can be prepared in different ways:

  • Grate laundry soap (300 g), and then dissolve in water (10 l). If soap is taken not lumpy, but liquid - then 125 ml.
  • Tar soap per 10 liters needs less - 100 g.
  • Wood ash is often added to the soap solution. Such a remedy should be boiled for half an hour.

Ash or ash solution can be used on its own, without soap. The ash is scattered on the ground around the affected plant, as well as on branches and leaves covered with aphids, previously sprayed with water.

Herbal decoctions and infusions

Preparations made independently from various herbs will help get rid of aphids. To process fruit trees and shrubs, repellent herbal infusions and decoctions are not recommended for use during flowering. You can harvest only 2-4 weeks after processing. If you are processing vegetables, harvest only one month after spraying. It is worth noting that before using infusions, it is better to check them first on a separate small area, and only after making sure of their effectiveness apply to the entire site.

For the manufacture of various infusions, the following types of raw materials can be used:

  • onion or onion peel;
  • 30-35 grams of onion are cut into small slices and placed in 1 liter of water. After 5 hours, the resulting mass is diluted with 4-5 grams of laundry soap. Next, the infusion is filtered and a volume of 1 liter is achieved.

  • garlic;
  • 200 g of garlic are finely chopped and infused in 1 liter of water for 4-5 days. The infusion is concentrated, so before using 25 ml. infusion is diluted in 10 liters of water

  • tobacco leaves;
  • 200 g of dry crushed leaves must be infused for 2 days in 5 liters. water. Bring the resulting volume to 10 liters with further boiling for two hours.

  • chamomile stems and leaves;
  • 100 grams of dried stems, leaves and inflorescences of chamomile (you can use the pharmacy version) insist in 1 liter. water throughout the day 12 hours. Before spraying the plants, the solution is diluted with laundry soap, in a ratio of one to three.

  • citrus fruit peels;
  • It is necessary to pour 100 grams of dry peels of tangerines or oranges into 1 liter of warm water. The infusion is kept for three days.

  • potato peel;
  • Grind 1 kilogram of intact potato peel and infuse for 3 hours in 10 liters of water. If the tops are dry, then its weight should be from 0.6 to 0.8 kg.

  • stems and flowers of celandine;
  • It is necessary to grind 0.4 kg. freshly picked stems and flowers, and place in 1 liter of water. Insist for 24 hours and then boil the resulting mass over low heat for half an hour.

    Horse sorrel root, hot pepper pods, pine needles, tomato tops and various medicinal herbs (yarrow, wormwood) are also used as raw materials for the manufacture of infusions.

    other methods

    To prepare preparations against aphids, you can use simple substances that every housewife has. These are table vinegar, baking soda, ammonia and potassium permanganate.

    Using vinegar to get rid of aphids is preferred by many gardeners. There are even claims that it is enough to use it 2-3 times for aphids to leave your plants alone.

    The spray solution is prepared simply - vinegar (1 tablespoon) is mixed in 1 liter of water or 10 liters if you take 1 tablespoon of vinegar essence.

    Baking soda is diluted in proportions of 75 g per 10 liters of water. In addition to an effective fight against aphids, a soda solution will help get rid of various rot and fungus on fruit trees and powdery mildew on cucumbers.

    Ammonia destroys not only aphids, but also black ants that settle it. To prepare a solution, you need to dissolve alcohol (50 ml) in water (10 l), and then add 25 g of laundry soap. If you decide to fight against aphids with this remedy, you need to remember that ammonia can leave burns. Some replace alcohol with ordinary vodka.

    Potassium permanganate in the fight against aphids is not so effective. It is used more for prevention or as an additional component to a soap solution.

    Such aphids are good to use on indoor flowers. Since there is limited space in a house or apartment, great attention should be paid to the safety of the products used for both plants and pets and humans.

    Fighting with Helpful Neighborhood

    A completely safe and even decorative way to drive away small pests is to diversify your garden plot (and windowsill at home) with flowers or herbs that release certain phytoncides. Odorous substances that aphids cannot tolerate will reliably protect your plants. Such beautiful (and sometimes tasty) protectors will be: fragrant pelargonium (geranium), Dalmatian chamomile, onion and garlic, basil and other fragrant plants.

    It is worth knowing that there are also plants that, on the contrary, divert the attention of aphids to themselves, enclosing our plants with “their breasts”. These plants include cleoma, kosmeya, etc. These "alluring" plants are best planted away from the main "pets" that require protection from malicious insects.

    Good helpers in the fight against aphids can be birds that feed on it themselves and feed all their offspring: sparrows, tits, warblers, kinglets and linnets.

    At the same time, you should always remember that when attracting living creatures to your site, it is absolutely impossible to use pesticides, since any insecticide will be detrimental to living creatures.

    Is it worth resorting to pesticides

    It is highly undesirable to fight a pest using chemicals. When processing fruit crops, chemicals enter the ground, are absorbed by plants, and then penetrate the fruits. For indoor plants in a house or apartment, this is generally unacceptable. However, in extreme cases, when the aphid has already multiplied so much that it threatens the plant with death, the insecticide justifies its use.

    Chemical preparations against aphids have a different principle of action. Some can cause poisoning by entering the digestive or respiratory system, others are absorbed over the entire surface of the insect's body. Aphids are most vulnerable to the following agents:

    • Aktofit;
    • Jaguar;
    • Fufanon;
    • Arrow.

    Before using any insecticide, it is necessary to study the instructions, since the wrong dosage or violation of safety measures can significantly harm both the treated plant and the person. If everything is done correctly, then a small malicious enemy will cease to be a threat to your plants.

    Aphid is a harmful insect that settles on garden, garden and other crops. Affected plants become depressed, slow down in growth and even die. Fighting aphids with folk remedies is considered the safest method. After all, the applied chemicals that have fallen on vegetable crops are the risk of penetration of toxins into food.

    Self-prepared folk recipes, in comparison with chemical poisons, are considered less effective, however, natural and harmless.

    The advantages of self-made tools are:

    • versatility and simplicity;
    • minor harm and toxicity;
    • low acquisition cost;
    • optimum storage time.

    There are many ways that will have a favorable result in protecting the garden, vegetable garden or flower garden. These methods include folk recipes that drive away a malicious pest, specially planted plants or vegetables, etc.

    Folk remedies against aphids

    It must be borne in mind that not all folk recipes are able to destroy the pest, some have only deterrent actions. They should be used 3-4 times at intervals of 7-10 days. Manipulation to produce in the evening, when there is no precipitation. In case of rain, the treatment is repeated.

    The most effective infusions are:

    1. Onion. It will take 35 g of finely chopped onion (you can use onion peel), which you need to pour 1 liter of water and leave for about 5 hours. Then add 5 g of laundry soap to the composition. Strain the infusion and add up to 1 liter of water.
    2. Potato peel. Grind 1 kg of peel, insist in 10 liters of water for 3 hours. If the tops are dry, then 0.6-0.8 kg will be enough.
    3. Marigold. Take half a bucket of finely chopped flowering plants, pour water to the very top, insist for 2 days. Then strain and add 40 g of soap there.
    4. Garlic. It will take 200 g of chopped vegetable, which is poured into 1 liter of water and infused for about 4-5 days. The result is a concentrated infusion. 25 ml of this product should be diluted in 10 liters of water.
    5. Pine. For 7 days, insist 1 kg of needles in 4 liters of liquid. Once a day you need to shake it up. Treat in a 1:1 ratio.
    6. Flowers, stems of celandine. Finely chop 0.4 kg of this plant, pour 1 liter of water, insist for a day and boil for no more than 0.5 hours over low heat.
    7. Chamomile. Add 100 g of dry plant to 1 liter of water, leave for 12 hours. The proportion of 1 hour of infusion and 3 hours of water (with the addition of soap 4 g: 1 liter) should be sprayed on the affected cultures.
    8. Citrus peels. 100 g of dried crusts pour 1 liter of warm liquid. Insist 3 days.
    9. Nettle. 500 g of fresh leaves are filled with 5 liters of water and aged for 12-24 hours.
    10. Yarrow. The plant should be purchased at the beginning of flowering (without root). Dry yarrow is crushed, 1 liter of hot water is poured, soap is added and infused for 2 days. Process cultures 2 times a day for 7 days.

    To prepare infusions, you can use hot peppers, tomato tops, dope, mustard and other medicinal herbs.

    Ammonia against aphids

    This tool perfectly repels pests, since aphids are quite susceptible to ammonia vapor, in addition, it is considered a top dressing for intensive growth.

    It will take 50 ml of alcohol diluted in 10 liters of water. While spraying the plant, the composition should be shaken thoroughly. For better sticking, it is good to add a quarter of a bar of laundry soap (optional). It can be used on outdoor and indoor plants.

    Soap solution options

    The easiest way to get rid of aphids are soap solutions.

    There are several recipes for making the product:

    Fighting aphids in the garden with ash

    The ash solution can be used as an independent agent, or along with soap. Ash is scattered on the ground near the necessary plants or sprinkled on the affected leaves, branches, previously sprayed with water.

    • Combine 1.5 kg of ash with 50 g of green soap, add water cooled to 60-70 ° C, insist and treat the desired areas;
    • 1 glass of ash is diluted in 5 liters of liquid, infused for 12 hours and is ready to use;
    • 300 g of ash is mixed with 50 g of soap, 10 liters of water are poured and put on fire for half an hour; leaves, stems are washed with a warm solution.

    Fighting aphids in a garden plot or vegetable garden involves the use of table vinegar and soda - tools available in every home.

    A solution of vinegar is very effective in the fight against various insects. It is made quite simply and does not require any costs. It will take a bucket of water 2 tbsp. l. vinegar. The composition is obtained with a small concentration of acid, so the culture will not harm at all, and the pungent smell will remain. It happens that aphids are located in the middle of twisted, affected leaves and it is not always possible to carefully process the plant. Therefore, you can water from a simple watering can.

    A solution of soda is harmless to plants and will not negatively affect the fruits, but it will help get rid of aphids. For cooking, you need 1 tbsp. l. baking soda and 10 liters of water. The composition is sprayed with damaged crops.

    Tobacco dust helps to fertilize the soil, increasing the intensity of microorganisms in it and improving yields.

    Plants and vegetables in the fight against aphids

    Some vegetables and plants can protect crops from pests.

    And the defenders themselves, damaged by insects, are removed from the site or processed.

    What is the best way to process cabbage, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes from aphids?

    A very tenacious, prolific pest that affects a huge number of garden and horticultural crops is aphids. After the insect settles on the site, it begins to multiply rapidly, feeding on the juices of the plant. When there are too many aphids, the culture dries up and dies.

    Useful properties of soda

    Baking soda is one of the most effective aphid killers. It is used in the garden and in the garden, spraying vegetables, flowers, fruit trees, berry bushes. Since Soviet times, this remedy has been widely distributed as natural and safe, it helped to eliminate many problems in the country, including infestation of plants by aphids. Soda powder is used in horticulture for:

    • treatment of crops from various diseases, including late blight, rot, etc.;
    • prevention of damage to seedlings by pests or diseases;
    • destruction of aphids, ants on the site;
    • restoration of soil balance (on soils with high acidity);
    • improving the taste of various crops, including grapes, tomatoes.

    How to get rid of aphids on currants

    There is a big difference between baking soda and soda ash, although the two products are similar in appearance. The first is a white, odorless powder with a neutral, slightly bitter taste, safe. Soda ash is classified as a third hazard class: the agent can cause burns of mucous membranes, irritation of the skin. The product requires the use of protective equipment - gloves, a respirator. Both types of soda are suitable for gardeners, they have found application in the treatment of plants from fungi and pests, including aphids.

    Soda from aphids on currants and other fruit bushes is applied by spraying - they move from bottom to top so that the lower part of the leaves is better processed. It is optimal to carry out the procedure early in the morning or late in the evening and in dry weather. When processing currant leaves from the gall aphid, it is necessary to turn them over, and from the gooseberry one - unfold them so that the active substance falls directly on the pest. It is recommended to use not a standard sprayer, but a manual sprayer.

    Folk remedies for aphids on currants show high efficiency, but if the bushes are badly damaged and they contain a lot of swollen, twisted, reddened leaves, such greenery must be cut off and burned, it can no longer be saved.

    Soap and soda solution

    • tar or laundry soap - 100 or 300 g (depending on the chosen product);
    • warm water - 1 l;
    • baking soda - 1 tbsp. l.

    First, the soap must be grated on a coarse grater, then dissolved in warm water. Soda is also added here, again thoroughly mixing the composition. Next, you need to dilute the concentrated product with water to get 10 liters. The finished mixture is sprayed with each leaf, currant trunk, watered the ground around the bush every time symptoms of aphid infestation appear. With a slight defeat, one high-quality treatment of the plant is enough for the pest to disappear.

    The fight against aphids on currants can be carried out with soda and iodine. Such a tool quickly eliminates the pest, eliminates the consequences of its life. Iodine accelerates the healing of damaged areas of the bush, prevents the development of infectious diseases. According to the recipe for a folk remedy, the ingredients are needed:

    • water - 1 l;
    • laundry soap - 40 g;
    • iodine - 1 tsp;
    • soda ash - 2 tbsp. l.

    The water is heated, grated laundry soap and two tablespoons of soda should be added to it. The agent is thoroughly mixed, iodine is introduced. The resulting composition is diluted with water so that a full 10-liter bucket is obtained. If instead of soda ash you use food, then for such a volume of the composition you will need 10 tbsp. l. powder. The treatment of currants from aphids is carried out in the same way as when using a soap-soda solution.

    Garlic-soda solution for treating currants from aphids

    To increase the effectiveness of soda treatment, other active ingredients are added to the main product, including garlic. The latter is a natural antibiotic with a sharp, persistent aroma that causes aphids to leave their chosen plants. Ingredients needed for cooking:

    • soda ash - 2 tbsp. l. (or food - 10 tablespoons);
    • garlic - 150 g;
    • laundry soap - 100 g;
    • water - 10 l.

    Chopped garlic (the optimal consistency is gruel) must be added to a bucket of water and left to infuse for 6 hours. After that, soda, grated soap are added to the solution. A thoroughly mixed, filtered solution is sprayed on the bush from all sides when signs of aphids appear. After the procedure, the pests leave the currant within 1-2 days.
