What to make from bamboo with your own hands. Simple and neat DIY bamboo furniture

Neither a tree nor a bush - you won’t understand what, but very beautiful plant- indoor bamboo, unusual plant with green shoots of a spiral or zigzag shape. The shoots can be of varying heights and have small green leaves. On the price tags they are called “lucky bamboo”, but they have no relationship with the real one, except for the similarity in appearance. In fact, this is a variety of a completely different plant - dracaena.

Today, indoor bamboo is sold in all florist shops; it was brought from Asia; there are about 80 species of plants. IN last years indoor bamboo can be found in many homes, and for good reason. Firstly, indoor bamboo has an original, even exotic appearance. Secondly, according to the philosophy of Feng Shui, indoor bamboo helps to attract good luck and prosperity to the home. How to care for and how to propagate indoor bamboo - read below.

Caring for bamboo in water is an opportunity to let your imagination and fantasy come true. You can create various interesting compositions from bamboo shoots and add decorative stones, red and gold ribbons or mascot figures. "Lucky Bamboo" looks great in a transparent vase with colored hydrogel. Don’t forget about its purpose - 3 stems for good luck, 5 for prosperity, 7 influence health, and 21 stems will have an impact on all areas of life. A composition of twenty curled bamboo stems is called a tower of love.

Growing Basics

Indoor bamboo is unpretentious, but requires quite simple rules caring for him. First of all, indirect sunlight, a little coolness and periodic ventilation of the room where it grows.

In winter, the bamboo of happiness should be kept at a temperature of at least 12, and preferably 14-16 degrees. A comfortable room temperature for him is about 22 degrees. At temperatures above 35 it dies. Does not require constant spraying, occasionally it is worth wiping the leaves from dust. Pebbles or expanded clay of various sizes are placed at the bottom of a vase with water. Special mineral fertilizers for dracaenas are used as feeding.

It is recommended to feed bamboo every three months. If fertilizing is carried out regularly, the leaves and stems will retain green color throughout the life of bamboo. Yellowed leaves and stems should be cut off, the cut area should be allowed to dry and lubricated with soft wax.

Water for bamboo

In many apartments and houses, bamboo is grown in water, because its straight or twisted shoots look very impressive in various glass vases. But then you will need to feed him mineral fertilizers to preserve the green color of the leaves

The water in the vase with it must be filtered, or preferably distilled, at room temperature. It must be updated every 2 weeks.

You can also use rain or melt water– filtered or plain water pour from the tap into plastic bottle and place in the freezer until the water completely turns into ice. Then put the bottle to thaw at room temperature. The resulting water becomes soft and more suitable for growing bamboo in it. If the water has acquired an unpleasant odor or a suspicious color earlier than 2 weeks, then you should change it and subsequently change the water in the vase with bamboo more often. If its leaves turn yellow, then the water also needs to be changed.

Happy place in the apartment

It is best to place a vase with bamboo on the east side of the window or closer to it. You should not leave it on a sunny windowsill, because direct rays of the sun will burn the leaves. The ideal place for bamboo in water is in partial shade. If there are no such places in the apartment, then you can place a vase with bamboo on the windowsill or floor, covering the glass with a curtain, blinds or newspaper, protecting the plant from sunburn. When ventilating the room, the plant should not be exposed to cold air, as this will have a negative effect on it.

Trimming and propagating bamboo in water

If the bamboo has grown too much and no longer looks attractive, then pruning should be done. It is done with special scissors, above the knots, otherwise the cut will be ugly.

Pruning can be done annually, trimming long shoots on all sides, and if necessary, removing outer canes at ground level.

Deleting side shoots from the right sides, you can model the shape and appearance of bamboo as you wish. Pruning can also be used to propagate bamboo. In this case, either cut off the top cuttings and root them in water, or cut the stem into several parts, lubricating the cuts with soft, but not hot, wax. Under no circumstances should yellowed areas of bamboo be used for propagation. If there are no shoots, then you can cut the top and after such an operation a shoot should grow, but if it does not appear, then repeat pinching the stem.

More and more people are striving to bring the interior of their home closer to nature, using environmentally friendly materials for decoration, among which bamboo can increasingly be seen. Since the environmental friendliness of interiors is increasingly of concern to the owners of houses and apartments, designers have found many interesting uses for natural materials, in particular, bamboo . Let's look at ideas on how to use bamboo in the interior.

Bamboo furniture

The main advantage of bamboo furniture is its environmental friendliness; it should also be noted how well such furniture is combined with stone, wood, leather, and other natural materials. Bamboo fits equally organically into modern, classic and even high-tech styles. Bamboo is especially good in combination with other natural materials; this combination complements each other very well.

Examples of the use of bamboo in furniture making can be seen in the images below, and this is only a small part of what manufacturers offer today.

1

Sometimes designers already offer ready-made solution, which do not need to be combined independently, for example, built-in kitchens.

2

Decorative bamboo trunks

Bamboo trunks are the most popular of all natural exotic materials. They are used both as decoration and to create landscape design, adding a touch of tropical style to the interior.

1

You can cover the entire surface of a wall with bamboo trunks, make a decorative layout on it, or make a headboard for a bed from them. The trunks can be placed both vertically and horizontally; most often, such “inserts” on the walls are used for zoning space and logical division of space.

In addition to walls, interior partitions and decorative curtains-partitions can be created from bamboo trunks, which can be used to zone the hallway and living room or the kitchen and dining room.

3

Bamboo finishing materials

More and more often, interior designers are turning to materials of natural origin. The natural beauty of these natural materials brings a piece of nature into the interior of the apartment. Popular bamboo ceiling , it can be made from bamboo fabric or compressed panels.

Bamboo wallpaper , more often called bamboo fabric, became the first of the exotic decorative materials, which is traditionally used for finishing furniture and interiors. They are an environmentally friendly product cleaner production. Working with them is not much different from the sticker technology of traditional roll wallpaper and does not require any special skills.

A special place should be given to bamboo blinds and curtains; they are often used by designers to combine beauty and sophistication. The lifting mechanism of such curtains can be similar to both roller blinds and Roman ones.

Explains how it's done)

"1. Last summer, my son-in-law and daughter, knowing my love for everything African, gave me papyrus. It was in Paris, when I bought this papyrus, it was on a tablet under glass and the glass was pressed metal staples. Naturally, when I arrived home, I discovered that the glass had broken, even though the papyrus had been packaged carefully... For almost half a year it lay rolled up into a tube, then I decided it was time. In the framing workshop they calculated how much everything would cost me (subframe, frame, glass , which the masters insisted on) and I decided to let my papyrus lie rolled up.

On the left is the batik that my brother-in-law brought me from Africa, there is a frame that I ordered from the workshop, made to look like bamboo. Of course, I wanted the papyrus to have a bamboo frame. B hardware store bamboo of different diameters, but no one sold one stick, they somehow count it in a special way... in bunches, the result is not cheap... And hunting is worse than bondage! I started looking for options and found it! This is where the bamboo secret actually begins))

The fact is that there is no bamboo in my bamboo frame! I found the idea and something like MK on the internet. With my photos I will show how I personally made bamboo. Maybe the one who posted this MK on the Internet is our resident and will recognize his brainchild, I will be glad to meet you, I do not in any way claim authorship!

For a bamboo frame you need thin, dense tubes of foil or cling film. The tubes may differ slightly in diameter - this is bamboo, and in nature it can be different.

I cut the tubes, but it seems to me that whole ones are also possible; for example, I saved money because I didn’t have many tubes and I like it better when the flat side is near the frame.

First fitting. The stretcher was glued together from 2 corrugated cardboard sheets, front side covered with velvet adhesive film, back with wallpaper. On the top crossbar you can see that the sizes of the tubes are different.

I pasted over each prepared “stick” with pieces of some kind of wrapping paper (found in bins). I glued a jute rope under the paper in several places (future jumpers - bamboo rings). Where the difference between the diameters of the tubes, I also wound a thread, having previously glued the tubes by placing a larger smaller.

Cover the glue-dried tubes with brown putty (I covered everything well with my finger, paying attention to the jumpers).

When the tubes were dry, I carefully treated them with fine sandpaper. In the places where the jumpers were, I used a brush with brown paint and, without waiting for it to dry, I seemed to stretch the paint away from the jumpers, thereby making the color transition smooth and natural. Unfortunately, being carried away by the process, I forgot to take a photo, but the principle, I think, is clear. Anyone who wants a certain color of bamboo (for an interior, for example) paints it in their own shades, I almost didn’t paint it, the putty was brown, plus I stretched the brown paint with jumpers and when varnished, the color became darker and brighter, so I left this option.

Bamboo (photo) - growing and decorating the dacha

In southern countries I have seen many useful things made from bamboo, please tell me how this material can be used to decorate a garden plot.

T. Petrova, Korolev

Decorative structures made from bamboo are popular all over the world, but are not yet widespread in regions with cold climates.

Although herbaceous bamboo species are native to the tropics, some woody species are adapted to life in colder, temperate regions. Representatives of the Sasa genus are adapted to the conditions of the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin.

Bamboo for summer cottages up to the Moscow region (with shelter for the winter) - Kuril sasa (sasa) 0.3-2 m high and fargesia (mountain Chinese bamboo). As a rule, frost-resistant bamboo can withstand temperatures down to -20 ° C.

Bamboo is everywhere

Massive flowerpots with bamboo decorate the front entrance country house, terraces and patios. For heavy and spacious pots, the fairly frost-resistant and slow-growing Shibataea kumasaca (aka ruscifolia, Bambusa aureostriata, Bambusa kumasaca, Phyllostachys ruscifolia, Sasa aureostriata). It has a number of advantages - it is cold-resistant, decorative, relatively compact, and does not grow excessively.

In Europe, one of the Japanese variations of bamboo is the most common: Bambusa fortunei - Fortune bamboo (found under the names Arundinaria fortunei, Bambusa variegate, Sasa variegate), with relatively low, graceful stems with variegated leaves.

Bamboo as a unique material

In Indochina, Bambusa tulda grows 22 m in a month. In many countries of the world, bamboo is the most important industrial crop, not inferior to the coconut palm: as a building material, bamboo provides 25 times more raw materials than the growth of tree wood.

Due to rapid growth, the trunks do not accumulate harmful substances– this is an absolutely clean and hypoallergenic eco-material that is completely renewable without additional planting when cutting down is limited.

This is interesting!

These plants have a phenomenal growth rate: in an hour they rise to 5 cm, in a day - more than 90 cm. The Japanese claim that by looking at bamboo, you can see how it grows. Madake (Phyllostachys bambusoides) has a record speed of 120 cm per day.

Tree-like bamboos reach a height of more than 40 m and a diameter of up to 0.3 m, forming huge forests on the planet.

Light and durable bamboo fishing rods are very popular among fishing enthusiasts.

Only pros

Among plants, the universal bamboo has no equal in its range of uses. It is cheap, has almost the same manufacturability as wood, and its strength exceeds that of most tree species. Bamboo products are easily converted into compost.

Popular in low-rise construction: a simple and ideal material with high fire resistance provides greater thermal insulation, sound insulation, and high comfort. It provides pleasant opportunities for creativity - a variety of trunk diameters (1-15 cm), ease of cutting when adjusting the length, elasticity and elasticity for creating curved shapes.

Smooth, fibrous structure of trunks, various colors(white, yellow, green, almost black) are ideal for finishing surfaces and creating furniture. Bamboo combines and harmonizes with natural materials - clay, straw brick, wood, stone, lime, cement, hemp and palm ropes.

How to use bamboo

Bamboo is moisture resistant and ultraviolet radiation, has high resistance to mechanical damage. A variety of garden products are created from it, the bed of water cascades is arranged, and it is used to decorate wet areas(baths, swimming pools, summer showers).

Bamboo products without additional processing have an aesthetic appearance, but they are given a finished look by varnishes and stains, which also protect them from external influences, extending their service life. Without a protective coating, bamboo quickly dries out and loses its elasticity. The disadvantages of the material include sensitivity to sudden changes in temperature and humidity - it is not used near heating devices.

Abundance of opportunities

New wood processing technologies make it possible to make almost everything from bamboo that was traditionally made from wood. Light, rigid and very durable wood is used to build houses, summer playgrounds, kitchens and green theatres, outbuildings, beach bungalows, small platforms and rafts, bridges, and water pipelines. Lightly bent bamboo trunks are joined together to form arched structures that support the shed roofs. Bamboo goes on scaffolding, fittings and formwork.

In temperate zone gardens, bamboo is affordable and is used where a small amount of material is required: gazebos, pergolas, trellises, decorative trellises, supports for climbing and climbing plants, supports for flowers, fences.

Country houses are equipped with bamboo products - overhead stairs to the roof, extension stairs, water gutters, lamps, wind chime pendants, blinds, curtains, carpets, durable and lightweight garden furniture, greenhouses - shadows, household utensils - flowerpots and containers for garden and indoor plants, wicker baskets, dishes, mats, etc. Suitable for gardening various instrument with bamboo handles (rakes, paint brushes, spatulas).

Lucky bamboo, Chinese bamboo, is Dracaena Sandera, which is not related to bamboo, but is very reminiscent of bamboo stems in its rounded shape and green color.

In the garden, bamboo is used to make supports for climbing plants.

In India, bamboo is a symbol of friendship.

Today, bamboo is organically integrated into various areas of garden design, without a strict ethnic focus.

DIY from bamboo

Exotic bamboo poles are cheaper than certain types of construction wood. It is beneficial to use them in subsidiary farming. Bamboo trunks are sawed with a hacksaw using fine teeth, drill holes and connect with special staples or strong knots made of hemp rope. If its wood is heated with a small gas burner, it bends in the desired direction, and after cooling it retains its shape.

In order to give the desired shape to the bamboo, it is heated by rotating it over steam or in an oven

For an “ethnic garden” you can make stairs, benches, lattice fences, plant supports, and pergolas with your own hands.

The outer layer (0.5-1.5 mm) of the stem is smooth, hard and dense, it is difficult to leave a scratch on it.

Traditions

Bamboo is an excellent material for landscape stylizations - African, Chinese, Japanese,

where they give the garden a natural feel. In China, bamboo is a symbol of material well-being and career growth, nobility, longevity and fortitude. It is believed to absorb and neutralize negative energy.

Bamboo shingles and fuel in China are the basis of life in rural areas. When assembling roofs that resemble slate in shape, the stems are cut lengthwise, and the resulting halves of the tubes are laid in 2 layers.

In Japan, bamboo is a symbol of purity due to its straight growth and fresh green color of shoots and foliage. Thick bamboo tubes are used as containers for bulk materials and liquids, like flasks.

OUR HELP

The slender, often branching, often tall stem of woody plants, which carries an aerial crown of leaves, is valued as a building material. The most famous is common bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris).

It has numerous stems (length 18 m and above) with narrow leaves (length 18 cm). f Low (rarely higher than 1 m) herbaceous bamboos grow in thickets.

The bamboo stem is especially strong in the longitudinal direction - this is also its disadvantage: if it is not processed correctly with a tool, it cracks longitudinally. Round holes are made with an electric drill.

Cutting - with a saw with fine frequent teeth.

The trunks are split with a rigid knife of a triangular cross-section (machete type), tapping with a hammer.

Ventilation holes are drilled inside each barrel elbow (diameter about 1.5 mm) - this allows the material to breathe and prolongs its service life.

The processing of parts and their connections must be precise. The products are varnished, otherwise the bamboo trunks quickly dry out, losing their elasticity.

    Bamboo crafts

Home master can make things from bamboo trunks with his own hands that will be useful and functional in personal plot and apartment/cottage. In order for them to look at the level of the best industrial designs, two conditions must be met: - the design of the craft must be appropriate; - the processing of parts and their connections must be precise, and coating with varnish or impregnating composition should not worsen, but improve the natural appearance.

Do-it-yourself things can be used at the dacha ladders, stairs to the roof, benches, gazebos, fences. In the apartment there are frames for paintings and photographs, trellises (pyramids) for supporting climbing plants and other things.

In a regular bicycle, you can replace the metal frame with a bamboo one, leaving only the old joints. This will make it more enjoyable to drive thanks to better shock absorption and a smoother ride. New parts must have no less strength than the ones being replaced, because a bicycle experiences frequent and quite strong vertical loads when riding.

It’s easy to make such a bamboo ladder yourself

Connecting knot in a bamboo structure in a fan

So, a small list of bamboo crafts that are not very difficult to make and that will be useful in the home, apartment or country house:

To make souvenirs from bamboo, it is worth studying Feng Shui and following its recommendations. A well-made imitation of the East will be almost indistinguishable from original crafts.

Before designing a craft, it is useful to familiarize yourself with the properties of bamboo wood. Its density is 900 kg/m3, and its hardness is about 4.7-4.9 units on the Brinell scale. The outer layer of the stem has a thickness of 0.5-1.5 mm. It is the hardest and most dense in the entire stem. It is smooth on the outside and has yellow. It is quite difficult to leave a scratch on it. Because of its structure, the bamboo stem is especially strong in the longitudinal direction. This advantage “comes sideways” in another way. Bamboo often cracks in the longitudinal direction, especially when handled incorrectly with tools.

    Technological rules and tools

When making various crafts from bamboo with your own hands, you can get by simple tools. The main one is a rigid machete-type knife.

When making crafts from bamboo, you must adhere to several simple technological rules: - do not drive nails into the trunk; instead, drill holes for the screws; - do not overdry the bamboo, to avoid this, coat it with varnish; - create ventilation inside each bend of the trunk in the craft, drilling small holes for this purpose that would be inconspicuous; - when cutting, use saws with small frequent teeth .

Countries where bamboo grows use a method of forming a square trunk by placing the growing trunk in a long square shape.

    Splitting a bamboo trunk

It often becomes necessary to split a bamboo trunk into several longitudinal parts. First you need to split it into two halves. To do this, the knife is placed with the cutting part on the cut of the barrel, then it is lightly hit with a hammer. If there is already a crack in the trunk, then you need to place the knife so that the cut hits it. When the knife has entered the trunk, it is swung left and right and moved along the trunk. In the same way, each half is divided further in half, and, if necessary, into even narrower strips. The knife should be rigid and have a triangular cross-section. Narrow planks are separated by placing them horizontally on a workbench and securing them with something. For such splitting, you will need another special knife, which, thrusting into the bar, is pulled towards you.

When the trunk is not split in half, but a sector is cut out at some angle, the knife is placed at the end not on two sides, but on one, so as to split it without touching the opposite one. Then the knife is placed again on the end at the desired angle from the first crack and the operation is repeated.

Why do Asian peoples have longer life expectancies? In fact, the secret lies not only in diet and lifestyle, but also in the ability to properly decorate your interior. For all its technology, in Japan, for example, it is extremely difficult to find polymer materials in interiors.

    Choosing bamboo curtains

In residential buildings they occupy minimal amount space, giving way to natural details. One of interesting materials, which came to the European part and has already taken root, is bamboo. This plant is truly unique and versatile. Curtains, pieces of furniture, carpets, fabrics with patterns are made from it, and it is even eaten.

Recently, bamboo curtains for a doorway or window have become very popular. No wonder, because the number of styles that modern products have makes them truly universal, suitable for most areas of modern design.

And if earlier a Roman blind was made of bamboo or roller blinds made of bamboo were predominantly a sign of eco-design, but now products are used everywhere in different styles. You can verify this by looking at the photo.

    Advantages

Before we make curtains for doorways from bamboo with our own hands, let’s see what advantages this plant gives us in the atmosphere of our everyday life:

    1. Antistatic. Indeed, despite its naturalness, the material does not attract, but repels dust.
    2. Versatility. Modern models of bamboo curtains are perfectly used for decorating window and door openings in kitchens, living rooms, halls, even bedrooms, halls and bathrooms. And in some rooms, for example, in hotels in Vietnam, they are generally used instead of the main doors in the rooms. Therefore, they can be used as interior partitions, decorative interior additions.
    3. Range. Today, bamboo window blinds can be Roman, standard, roller, or gathered. They can even be decorated with lambrequins made of the same material. Bamboo door curtains can also be of several types. Depending on the density, bamboo curtains can be rigid and placed on sliding system, or they can hang like curtains with a pattern, be very soft and pliable, perform decorative function.
    4. Colors. Never before have “wood” shades been “outcasts” in the interior. They can be selected to suit any type. And this gives wood a unique advantage over a lot of other materials.
    5. Strength. Indeed, despite the external fragility of the tree, bamboo is quite strong due to its longitudinal fibers. It courageously withstands mechanical loads during operation and extremely rarely becomes unusable (only in case of improper use). That's why interior curtain made of bamboo will last for a long time and will look beautiful and relevant in any interior. It is also important to note that bamboo does not fade, that is, under the influence of solar best color remains the same for a long time.
    6. Softness. Indeed, bamboo is very pleasant to the touch.

Bamboo curtains can be of several types, depending on the processing of the material. They can have longitudinal connected strips, crossed, horizontal.

The type of assembly will depend on this. Naturally, the curtain for the doorway, if assembled like Roman blinds, that is, like a sailboat, will consist of longitudinal horizontal slats. If it is assembled vertically, then the bamboo slats will also be vertical. Examples can be seen in the photo.

    Kinds

Now let’s take a closer look at curtains for a bamboo doorway, their types and the possibility of making each one with your own hands.

    1. "Thread". These are curtains made from strips of bamboo separated from each other. In fact, this is one of the simplest curtain options. Making them yourself takes a long time, but is quite simple. To do this, you need to correctly calculate the number of bamboo tubes. After this, take the main bar to which they will be attached. Divide a certain amount lengthwise into two parts and attach to the bar. After this, connect all the tubes together. This can be done using paper clips or threads, as well as fishing line.
    2. Solid. They are a canvas in which bamboo tubes or strips are interconnected. Typically, such products are sold by the meter. You can buy them in construction stores. Most often they are sold in departments for decoration or country interior products. Such curtains are almost ready for use; the main thing with them is to make the fastening correctly and consider the possibility of easy operation. It is best to divide them into two halves if they are located in the doorway. This will allow you to pass through unhindered, while the curtains remain in place, fulfilling their aesthetic function. Having hung the curtains on the doorway in one piece, you will need to move the curtains to the side or up, depending on the fastening, so that the opening is clear.

When making curtains, it is important to take the correct measurements and select fittings for fastening. The big advantage of bamboo curtains is that they are easy to install and make with your own hands. No cutting and sewing skills are needed here.

It is enough to show a little persistence, desire and imagination, and new organic curtains with a beautiful and versatile appearance will appear in the house. Such products will definitely make the atmosphere of the house more natural, as you can see by looking at the photo.

How to make bamboo yourself? Easily!

Last summer, my son-in-law and daughter, knowing my love for everything African, gave me papyrus. It was in Paris, when I bought this papyrus, it was on a tablet under glass and the glass was pressed with metal brackets.

On the left is the batik that my brother-in-law brought me from Africa, there is a frame that I ordered from the workshop, for bamboo. Of course, I wanted a bamboo frame on the papyrus. In the hardware store, bamboo of different diameters, but no one sold one stick, they Somehow they consider it in a special way... in bunches, the result is not cheap... And hunting is worse than bondage! I started looking for options and found them!

The stretcher was glued together from 2 corrugated cardboard sheets, the front side was covered with velvet adhesive film, and the back side was covered with wallpaper.

When the tubes were dry, I carefully sanded them with fine sandpaper.

    Well, one more corner.

Well, the final photo with the selection committee in the face, i.e. the face of my cat Faust.)))

And I’m posting this photo to lift my spirits. This is how I celebrated my birthday this year. I was born on May 19, who remembers, it was Pioneer Day. So we had a Pioneer party. My friends, red ties, shorts, a cotton dress on the birthday girl and spring!!

This secret photo was taken by my daughter in Paris - we walked along the Green Path, on both sides of which there were thickets of bamboo... I found a dried stick and decided. that I needed it... We jumped on it, sawed it with a pocket knife, inserted it into the fence and bent it... we almost died laughing... We couldn’t break the bamboo, but they wouldn’t let me on the plane)))) )) I had to put the stick back and continue on my way...

Part One - 5 Cost-Effective Ways to Add Original Details

This gallery was almost finished and all that remained was to write the text. In search of inspiration, it occurred to us to look for what they were writing on the Internet about bamboo in the interior: professionals and just journalists. One phrase struck me to the core. Let's start with it.

This “pearl” sounds like this: “The competent use of bamboo in any interior remains the prerogative of professionals...” This is followed by passages that “you need to know the subtleties of oriental styles and the philosophy of Feng Shui” - only in this case is an optimal result guaranteed. What logically follows from the company’s offer of its services...

In our opinion, this is another attempt to complicate the essence of the task so that the average reader will be afraid of the upcoming (and, especially, subsequent) problems and immediately run to look for “professionals”. Funny and sad at the same time.

We prefer to approach this issue differently. Let’s just divide 2 approaches: local decor and large-scale finishing during the renovation process.

If you like bamboo in principle, how original material to decorate your home, but there are no major changes planned, you don’t have to “look for professionals.” All you have to do is look at the ideas and find a way to implement them, which is not difficult at all. This is the decorator's approach. This is our first part of the “Bamboo in the Interior” saga, which you will see here.

The second part of the guide will be a “nod” to those who prefer large-scale solutions: different ways using bamboo for finishing walls, ceilings, and floors. And also about bamboo furniture, the cost of which varies greatly. This gallery is scheduled for release in the near future.

And here we’ll talk about how to use bamboo for local decoration. You will see 5 methods, slightly different in cost and speed of implementation, for each of them there are several examples and a couple of our tips. A total of 38 photos with examples of bamboo decor.

We won't waste time telling you what bamboo is and why it might be interesting. For those who prefer theory, there are many “kilometer-long articles”. But as for practical solutions, they will be in abundance. As for the style, we think it’s obvious to you: bamboo decor is, on the one hand, an element of eco-style (nature in your home), on the other hand, it’s a technique that helps add oriental notes to the interior.

    __________________________

method 1: bamboo for table and kitchen decoration

So, the first and simplest method. Buy finished goods made of bamboo: decorative or functional. The first include fountains and “wind chimes”, bowls and plates for compositions made of pressed bamboo (for example, from Ikea, photo 6).

Among the functional items, the most accessible are bamboo serving napkins for cutlery, hot stands and bread bins (usually you can even buy them at the market). A rarer and more refined item is teapots with bamboo handles (look in the salons of oriental tableware and decor).

    __________________________

method 2: bamboo frames for mirrors, paintings and collages

This method can be a space for creativity (make similar frames with your own hands from sawn bamboo trunks). But sometimes you can find ready-made products. Individual pieces of bamboo are tied together using thin jute threads. Unusual collages or batik will look especially impressive in such a frame.

    __________________________

method 3: stylized bamboo for the interior

As a symbol of growth, prosperity and Japanese flavor, bamboo is also popular in wallpaper designs, fabric or even wall decals. The easiest option is to look for materials and products that already feature stylized bamboo.

But, if you prefer more sophisticated solutions, take a stroll through art salons: one day you will definitely come across a stunning painting, tapestry or graphic depicting bamboo in all its glory.

method 4: bamboo decor for your garden

Bamboo looks very organic as a landscape decoration. It doesn't have to be something complicated or expensive. Just 2-3 details can add stunning oriental charm to your garden, in which it will be so pleasant to dream of long journeys.

    __________________________

    method 5: dracaena “lucky bamboo”

And, of course, one of the most charming tricks - houseplants. A variety of dracaena known as "lucky bamboo" is also a great way to add a sophisticated oriental touch to your home.

These can be laconic curved stems with a couple of leaves or lush thickets. You can add other plants to the composition or come up with an original filling for a glass vase for such “bamboo”. Feel what mood you would like to convey and enjoy your creativity!
