How to make garage shelves from a profile. Do-it-yourself shelving in the garage - a reliable and durable design at no extra cost! Several features during the assembly of metal shelving

Making repairs in the bedroom with your own hands is the dream of many room owners. Although this is not a "public" place in a house or apartment, children do not play here, guests or the whole family do not gather, repairs in the bedroom should be given a lot of attention.

At the same time, many want the interior to correspond to all the plans of their owners, they put their most unrealizable dreams into it. This article will tell you how to properly make repairs in a dormitory with your own hands.

A bedroom is a room where each person spends a lot of time. The room can be multifunctional or adapted only for sleeping, which requires appropriate technical and design techniques.

This leads to the fact that before renovating a bedroom, you should carefully consider all its stages, taking into account the types of such a room, how it will be used, how the renovated room will look like.

According to its aggregate characteristics of a bedroom, the following categories can be conventionally distinguished:

  • Spousal or parent... Here it is necessary to create the necessary psychological mood for both spouses (see).
  • Children(cm. ) . This room, where children not only sleep, but also play, do their homework, which requires a special approach to its design.
  • Bachelor's bedroom(cm. ). Its peculiarities are that it is usually a small room that can easily be transformed from a relaxation area into a study or a bedroom for two.
  • In a one-room apartment... This type of bedroom is characterized by its versatility. She is married, and a room for children and a dining room. An example of the design of a one-room apartment is shown in the photo.

Any of these types can have a simple configuration in plan or be with an alcove, have:

  • Niche for the bed.
  • Balcony or loggia (see. ).

What are the types of repair

The degree of increasing complexity characterizes the type of bedroom renovation.

He might be:

  • Cosmetic or simple. In this case, the repair is reduced to cleaning the room, it is possible to replace a window or balcony block, re-pasting wallpaper. Before carrying out it, the main thing is to choose the right wallpaper and new furniture. During this repair:
  1. a new one-piece flexible floor covering is laid over the existing one, without repairing the floor;
  2. curtains change (see);
  3. lambrequin suspension;
  4. screens are installed, if necessary.
  • Decorative. This is a more complex renovation of the premises. This includes, in addition to the above activities:
  1. installation of a new ceiling;
  2. new wall decoration;
  3. the floors are being reshaped;
  4. it is possible to insulate a balcony or loggia;

These are already quite complex jobs, but still quite feasible on their own. Decorative repairs also include the installation of lightweight partitions made of tongue-and-groove blocks or drywall, plywood or sawn timber.

  • Capital... In addition to completely cleaning the room, it includes drying it:
  1. overhaul of walls, floors, ceilings and their insulation;
  2. repair of the floor, in which the screed is changed and its sealing, insulation and vapor barrier is done.
  • Renovated. The concept of "Eurorepair" is a style, the creation of an unusual look for a bedroom, which will express the individuality of its owners. Such repairs can be of any kind, even cosmetic, but it requires either a good artistic taste of the owner of the premises, his mastery of special work techniques, or the recommendations of an experienced designer. The price of renovation, in any case, will be quite high.
  • Renovated with redevelopment... In this case, the following are most often performed:
  1. combining a balcony with a bedroom;
  2. heavy capital partitions are arranged, giving a large concentrated load, which acts on the floors;
  3. device in the dormitory of a panoramic or French window.

This repair requires the development of a project, a special permit for work, accompanied by complex documentation, professional technical supervision of all operations, their acceptance with confirmation of the act of putting the premises into operation. Performing such work is possible with the experience of a builder, who is able to do technical calculations and knows SNiPs. Repairs with redevelopment on their own are carried out only in exceptional cases.

Tip: In any bedroom there should be a corner for the arrangement of a boudoir, in which will be placed: a chest of drawers or a pencil case, a dressing table, an ottoman. In a bachelor bedroom, the function of a boudoir and a table for work perfectly combines a secretaire with a mirror arranged in its niche.

Room with design features

When it comes to bedrooms, another problem is quite common: the room has a pencil case configuration, that is, it is narrow and long. Let's see how professional designers get out of this situation.

Such a room must be zoned, and in the photo below you can see that this was done using a suspended ceiling with lighting and curtains.

So:

  • The plasterboard coffered ceiling is made only in the part of the room where the bed stands, and it stands under the window. Therefore, the heating battery was covered with a decorative grill, and roller blinds were hung on the window. The curtains were placed not above the window, as is usually done, but in front of the bed, thus creating a kind of boudoir.
  • This idea may interest the owners of "Khrushchev", where there are rooms of a similar configuration. By the way, partial zoning can also be performed by arranging a curly plasterboard partition. Most often, it is an element of a ceiling-wall zoning structure.
  • One or another option for dividing a room into zones is selected taking into account the location of the windows in it. The example with a boudoir is good when the window is at the far end of the room, as it often happens.
    In the example below, it is located on a side wall, near the entrance.
  • The bed is in a part of the room that is not illuminated by daylight, and if you close it with curtains, the sleeping area will be practically in the dark. Therefore, a different zoning option is chosen here.
  • A short curly partition separates the zones only visually, without blocking the light. Due to the lack of daylight, white and muted pink are taken as the basis for the decoration of this bedroom.
  • And yet, in multi-storey buildings there are long balconies with two exits, one of which is in the bedroom, or it can be an exit to the loggia. One way or another, this is not entirely convenient, and there is a desire to remove this door, especially since in rooms with a balcony there is often unimportant lighting.
  • What can you think of in this situation? The door leading to the balcony can, of course, be removed, but only if it is well insulated and heated there. Now there are all the possibilities to do this - however, they will require certain costs.
  • It is necessary to close up the cracks well, to insulate the parapet and the ceiling of the balcony according to all the rules. The expanded clay concrete screed will raise the floor higher, and the underfloor heating system installed under the floor covering will even save you from the need to equip traditional heating on the balcony.

How to renovate a bedroom

Repair instructions for the premises include:

  • A design project is being drawn up.

It reflects what the bedroom should look like after the completion of the renovation. The sketch is applied to paper or reproduced using a special computer program, if available.

In this case, it is necessary to take into account all the dimensions of the room, to correctly perform the zoning of the space of the room. Usually the bedroom is isolated from all other rooms of the apartment, but you can organize a dressing room or a place for work here.

  • An estimate is made for the repair.

After determining the design of the room, a list of materials required for the work is compiled, and the cost of repairs is formed. At the same time, the main condition is to correctly maintain the ratio of good quality and reasonable prices for renovating the premises.

  • The workplace is being prepared.

Before starting the renovation of the bedroom, you should take out all the furniture from it, remove the chandeliers, sockets and switches. If you do not plan to change windows and doors, they must be protected with a special film from scratches and dust.

  • Old coatings are dismantled.

This removes:

  1. old wallpaper;
  2. traces of whitewash;
  3. dye;
  4. old tiles;
  5. damaged floor covering.

Dismantling is a rather lengthy procedure that requires certain skills and attention. Skirting boards and sills should be removed.

  • The premises are re-planned, and its structural elements are replaced.

Repair can begin with redevelopment of the room, involving the demolition or installation of partitions. In addition, when renovating a bedroom, you can do:

  1. replacement of radiators;
  2. installation of air conditioners;
  3. carry out electrical work;
  4. replace windows and doors.

Tip: A bedroom, more than any other room, should be finished with environmentally friendly materials that are safe for human health.

How to decorate the ceiling in the bedroom

The ceiling takes up significant space when decorating a room.

He might be:

  • Putty.

This is a rather laborious process that requires skill and experience.

  • From drywall.

Such a device can be done independently. The advantages of plasterboard structures are:

  1. alignment of surface differences;
  2. hiding all communications;
  3. suitable for any lighting device;
  4. are ideal for creating multi-level structures of any complexity.
  • Stretched.

The features of such devices can be:

  1. they hide all the imperfections of the ceiling surface;
  2. protect the room from unexpected ingress of moisture into the room from the ceiling;
  3. a wide range of textures and colors.

Stretch ceilings can be arranged in multi-level options, where they will add a touch of uniqueness and originality to the bedroom.

Much attention must be paid to the color scheme of the ceiling. It depends on the dimensions of the room being repaired and on the style used. Dark colors reduce the visual space, and light colors increase.

Tip: In the bedroom, it is not recommended to install glossy and multi-colored ceilings, which are distracting and not conducive to relaxation. All shades are chosen so that they are calm and unobtrusive, and in order to include a rich color in the interior, it is better to perform a small color accent in the middle.

Repair of windows and doors

Doors are chosen in such a way that they match the design of the entire room. Windows are an important element of the interior. Their shape and size dictate the design of the room.

In addition, they prevent the penetration of cold into the bedroom, and have thermal insulation properties. Sound insulation of a window depends on the thickness of the glass, the distance between the glasses, the density of the joints.

Depending on the type of window opening, they can be:

  • Combined.
  • Swinging vertical.
  • Hinged horizontal.

There are a variety of window models:

  • Standard plastic.
  • Original wooden with an attractive design.

Tip: When designing a house plan, you need to take into account that the windows are facing south or east. Then, in sufficient volume, sunlight will enter the room, which improves the functioning of the human body, stimulates the activity of the central nervous system and controls metabolism.

How to decorate the walls in the bedroom

Wall decoration is the main operation when renovating a room. First of all, they align.

To do this, you can use one of the options:

  • Plasterboard wall alignment... This is a simple and time-saving option. With plasterboard, you can hide the rather large differences that exist on the surface of the walls and create a perfectly flat surface. The disadvantage of the material is the reduction in the area of the room and the unusual hollowness of the walls of the room.
  • Plastering... This is a more difficult, time consuming and costly procedure. In addition, it cannot be used for rooms with large surface differences. The advantage of this method is to preserve the useful area of the bedroom.

For finishing the walls in the bedroom, wallpaper or decorative plaster is most often used. When choosing wallpaper:

Tip: The most optimal option for wall decoration is paper wallpapers that are environmentally friendly and affordable. Their only drawback is their short service life.

  • For those who are creative in organizing the interior, you can take non-woven wallpaper for painting. Such materials allow air to pass through well, are environmentally friendly, they can be repainted, if desired, change the color and style of the room.
  • Textile wallpapers look quite original in the bedroom:
  1. have a long service life;
  2. a great abundance of colors and textures;
  3. provide excellent sound insulation in the room.

It allows you to create an original work of art in the bedroom, and its owner can be sure that the design of his room will be unique and inimitable.

It is best to take color shades for the bedroom:

  • Blue.
  • Light green.
  • Pearl gray.
  • Light pink.

How to repair a floor

The bedroom floor should not be cold. If possible, it is better to arrange the installation of the "warm floor" system.

As a floor covering, you can use:

  • Laminate. It is an affordable material, it is easy to fit. The coating does not require special maintenance, but during installation, a sound-insulating substrate should be laid under it.
  • Parquet. The material is quite expensive, very moody and requires special care.
  • Linoleum. Has high wear resistance and unpretentious operation.
  • Cork floor. The coating is pleasant to the touch, warm, comfortable and environmentally friendly. Does not tolerate aggressive cleaning agents.
  • Self-leveling floor. An original and modern finish. With its help, you can get a very flat surface on which you can apply a 3D drawing.

Tip: If the bedroom is small, a laminate or diagonally laid parquet will make the room visually more voluminous.

Furniture installation in the bedroom

The renovation of the bedroom ends with the selection of textiles:

  1. curtains;
  2. curtains;
  3. bedspreads;
  4. capes;
  5. decorative pillows.

Podium for bedroom

The simplest version of the podium is a frame made of wooden beams, sheathed with plywood or OSB. As a front finish, the podium body can be finished with carpet, block parquet, laminate, cork.

So:

  • Experienced specialists manage, with the help of the podium, to organize the space of the cramped bedroom so that everything you need can fit in it: from the table to the linen closet. In general, it is believed that the podium should be done: either in a small or in a fairly spacious room - the main thing is that the height of the ceiling allows it.
  • In interiors decorated in Japanese style, you will hardly see traditional beds - just a soft mattress installed on a low podium. In a large room, it can also be located in the center of the room. Then it makes sense to decorate its surface with expensive wood, to make a backlight.
  • If you, starting to renovate the bedroom, decided to make a podium, in this part of the room you will need to dismantle the flooring. Next, you have to level the base and cover it with a cork backing, which is usually placed under the laminate flooring. This layer will not only serve as a shock absorber, but also provide normal sound insulation.
  • The size of the timber for the frame should be selected taking into account the expected loads - if it is only a bed, a section of 30 * 30 mm will be quite enough. In principle, an aluminum profile can also be used for this purpose, especially if the podium is sheathed with gypsum fiber board. The distance between the vertical posts should be no more than 40 cm.
  • In those places where the podium is adjacent to the walls, the frame elements can be rigidly fixed to their surface. Horizontal and vertical belts are installed at right angles, if they are bars, then they should be additionally fastened with metal corners.
  • If plywood is used for sheathing the horizontal surface of the podium, then in order not to feel deflection under load, you need to take material with a maximum thickness (21 cm). The use of OSB boards allows you to reduce the thickness to 15 cm - they are much stronger than plywood due to the polymer filler. Gypsum fiber sheets (GVL) can have a thickness of 12 mm, but the step between the lags, in this case, should be less: 30 cm.

To build such a structure, special knowledge is not required - every second man will perfectly cope with this task. For cladding visible vertical surfaces, making the front side of a drawer, you can take a chipboard with a laminated coating, or use parts of unnecessary cabinet furniture.

Loggia, as part of the bedroom

What disfigures any room the most is the pipes and heating radiators, which cannot always be hidden. And if the room also has an exit to the loggia, the whole wall practically does not participate in the design.

So:

  • You can, of course, hang up chic curtains, but if you constantly pull them, going out to the balcony and back, their appearance will soon be deplorable. We have to move the curtain so that it does not interfere with walking freely.
  • For this reason, the owners of such premises often prefer to connect the room with a loggia. Why with a loggia, and not with a balcony? The answer is simple: a balcony is a portable structure, and it is quite difficult to make it as warm as a room.
  • The loggia is, in principle, part of the interior, and floor and ceiling slabs are not balcony slabs, but floor slabs. Therefore, in winter it is much warmer in the loggia room than on the glassed-in balcony - and this is very important, especially for the bedroom.

Before removing the window and door, you need to get rid of the battery under the window and solve the main question: how the room will be heated.

And the choice is this:

  • If you make the parapet low or do without it altogether by installing a glass wall, the bedroom will have excellent natural light, and you will be delighted with the panorama of the city that opens up to your eyes. It will only be necessary to raise the floor level of the loggia to the level of the floor of the room, to make the general flooring and finish in harmony with the general interior - and you will get a large bedroom with a separate area reserved for relaxation or study.
  • Do not forget that the interior decoration of the walls and ceiling on the loggia must be done in a frame way. This will make it possible to waterproof the surfaces and lay a layer of insulation under the sheathing. By the way, when removing the window and the door leading to the loggia, the pier that is under the window can be left - it will play the role of a zoning partition.
  • The opening can be decorated with a contrasting casing by mounting beams of the same color along the wall and along the ceiling, and you will have a design similar to the picture above. And also, above the wall, you can install a decorative partition made of wood or drywall.
  • If you prefer to leave the wall, then the battery can not be removed, but covered with a decorative grill. Alternatively, a table can be made on the basis of the partition, since its height is ideal for this.

All the details on the repair of the bedroom are well shown by the video in this article on the topic: "We do the repairs in the bedroom with our own hands."

The bedroom is considered one of the most important places in an apartment or house, since it is intended solely for relaxation and recuperation. Strangers do not enter it, and an atmosphere of calmness, comfort and home warmth always reigns in the room. The decor of the bedroom greatly affects the well-being of the owner of the apartment, which is why most people and designers approach the renovation of this room with special attention.

Competent planning, furniture arrangement, colors and the presence of a variety of decor - all this allows you to competently equip a room and create a truly beautiful and harmonious design that will delight the owner for many years.

For some people, repairing a bedroom with their own hands is a completely doable task, but even in this case, it is advisable to take into account the recommendations of specialists and carefully study the issue before starting work, so that later there are no problems.

What should be the design?

When it comes to arranging a bedroom, the first question arises about the future design, since even plastering walls or installing doors cannot be carried out without having a ready-made project, at least on paper or in electronic form. Thanks to this, you can imagine the whole picture, understand what little things should not be missed and calculate the location of various objects down to centimeters.

However, in the absence of proper experience or an original idea, it will not immediately work out, therefore, photos of repairs in the bedroom come to the rescue, which are walking in large numbers on the Internet. They will charge you with a dose of inspiration and allow you to at least roughly understand what style and color scheme is acceptable and can be used indoors.

You need to understand that it is extremely difficult to find real photos of bedroom renovation, since most of them are retouched or slightly processed in special programs, where various effects are applied, but even they can become a source of inspiration and motivation.

Popular interior styles

The most popular styles for decorating bedrooms are the following options: shabby chic, classic and vintage.

Vintage

The vintage style presupposes careful preparation and no less difficult implementation, since any historical era, and with it a lot of things, in particular pieces of furniture, carries a lot of knowledge that an ordinary man in the street will collect for more than one month.

Fortunately, on the Internet, you can easily find the necessary photos, expert advice, historical sources, as well as films and works of art, where everyday life and, accordingly, design elements of a particular period are perfectly represented.

The next stage is the selection of materials for both external decoration and various textiles, and it is the most difficult, since it is almost impossible to find such elements in ordinary stores and most of it has to be ordered via the Internet.

The vintage style allows the use of new furniture, but its appearance must certainly indicate that these items have been used for a long time. Chips, scuffs, cracks and fuzzy patterns and faded shades typical of old furniture can help.

You can artificially age things with your own hands, and they can look pretty beautiful and easily fit into the overall design.

Classic

The classic version is familiar to almost everyone, so there are the least difficulties with it both at the development stage and during implementation. Natures with a delicate taste prefer the classics, since it carries both simplicity and luxury, lightness and grace, calmness and strength. It captivates with thin and flowing lines, exquisite decorative elements, rich furnishings and practicality of individual details.

This style allows you to arrange the space in such a way that the room embodies pomp, reliability and some secrecy from prying eyes, which turns it into the most secluded and comfortable place to relax.

The only drawback may be the high cost of materials, because the classic style does not tolerate cheapness. When decorating, only natural, high-quality and expensive materials are used, so modern bedroom renovation requires serious financial investments.

Shabby Chic

Shabby chic style is used mainly in women's rooms and in girls' bedrooms. This is a unique combination of calm pastel shades, many decorative elements in the form of ruffles, bows and ribbons, as well as classic textures, not burdened with unnecessary patterns. Elegance and romanticism are the basis of the interior, decorated in the shabby chic style.

While the textiles are light and casual, the furniture is antique and mostly inexpensive. It can be found at flea markets, ruins, sales and even in forgotten ancient premises. These can be both restored versions and items that require immediate "reanimation" in the hands of both a talented craftsman and a simple amateur.

In addition to the list presented, there are many more styles, so the options for decorating a bedroom are so diverse that even the most fastidious desires can be satisfied in the best possible way.

Features of repair in a small bedroom

A small space is always a challenge for a designer, because it is incredibly difficult to carry out high-quality repairs in a small bedroom and create a unique atmosphere.

But to visually expand the space will help large mirrors, transparent furniture and glossy surfaces that reflect light. The simplest method is to use mirrors, and there are no restrictions on their use, since, in addition to the usual option, they are located on the walls and ceiling.

Elements such as transparent furniture and glossy textures do not weigh down the space, but on the contrary, as if weightless objects do not take up space and seem to float in the air.

How to start DIY repairs?

First of all, there is a complete replacement of window frames and doors, if necessary, and defects are also eliminated. If desired, heat and sound insulation is installed, and then a warm floor.

At the second stage, all cracks and holes are covered, and a primer is also applied. After the walls are already dry, the most difficult stage begins, namely the leveling of the surface in 3-4 layers with the help of putty.

All options are relevant and applicable in the bedroom, but the owner has the last word, as well as all the ideas for renovating the bedroom, which will certainly be used in the process.

When the ceiling is finished, the process moves on to the prepared and plastered walls, and then to the floor. The lighting is installed at the last moment, when everything else is ready.

Looking through the current novelties of bedroom design in 2018, you can find many interesting ideas that you want to implement in your own bedroom. All of them are interesting and attractive in their own way, but before making a decision, one should take into account the dimensions and natural lighting of the room so that the design turns out to be stylish and cozy.

Bedroom renovation photo

Not every car owner or master has the opportunity to have a spacious garage or workshop and store all the tools and small parts in it, and this causes a lot of inconvenience. Sometimes the rooms are so small that it is impossible to put ordinary shelves near the walls. There is a very original solution to the problem - to make them suspended. They are placed along the walls only in the working position, and the rest of the time they are attached to the ceiling. The only condition is that you must have at least the initial skills in the production of carpentry work.

Required materials and tools

For manufacturing, a circular is required, you can use a hand saw or an electric jigsaw. You need a drilling machine, a drill, a set of drills, wood glue and a set of hardware for fixing the elements. Such shelves are mounted in unheated rooms, the dimensions are consistent with the pitch and width of the rafter beams.

Shelf Manufacturing Process

Draw a sketch of the shelf detailing each element. A few details will be needed.
1. Foundation. The length is equal to the height from ceiling to floor.
2. Bottoms and sides of boxes. Sizes are selected taking into account the expected number of tools and spare parts. The distance between the shelves is about 30 cm, the number is a multiple of the shelf height. In our case, 8 boxes will be installed.
3. Details of the stop fixed to the wall. In our case, there will be two rows of boxes, you need to keep this in mind when drawing up a sketch.
4. Partitions, slewing ledges, etc.
The number and nomenclature of elements may vary, taking into account the model that you personally have invented.

First step

Work begins with the manufacture of a part of the shelves fixed to the wall. Cut a large sheet into pieces on a circular saw, prepare all the structural elements.

Cut off a part of the sheet, it will be fixedly nailed to the wall, cut out six elements to fix the three supporting brackets. Our plywood is thin; to increase the strength of the parts, it will be glued in the future. Accordingly, not three, but six parts are required.
Drill holes in them under the rolling axis, cut corners that will interfere with lifting. Holes are made in all parts, after gluing their depth is doubled. Before drilling, the parts are firmly fixed, in this way alignment is achieved.

Due to the fact that the shelves are movable, one corner must be cut so that it does not touch the base when the structure is being lifted. The boxes are fixed with special elements that, when lifted, constantly keep them in a horizontal position. If you do not remove the corners, then they will rest against the wall of the shelf, the device will not function. You can cut along a radius or in a straight line, it does not matter. The main condition is to ensure a free turn.
Start assembling the blanks into a single structure. First, attach two strips to the shield, and then fix the sidewalls. It is necessary to fasten it on dowels and self-tapping screws, insert special carpentry fixed nuts into the holes of the axles. Attach the assembled part to the wall; use a level to maintain horizontal alignment. It should be fixed very firmly with dowels, check the reliability. The item has to support your weight, it holds the entire structure.

Second phase

Start sawing parts for pivot boxes, but they need to remove two corners of the sidewalls. The side walls will be double, respectively, it is necessary to double the number of blanks.
The assembly is done according to the above method, you can only use self-tapping screws, but then it is recommended to increase their number.
The finished boxes will be further attached to the rear panel of the shelf and will be able to constantly maintain a horizontal position when lifting it. This effect is achieved by the peculiarities of their fixation.
The back side of the drawers is attached to the back wall by means of a piano or any other hinges, they create a movable point of support. On the opposite side of the box, a through hole is provided for the second pivot axis.
Grind the surfaces of the boxes with a grinder, attach the hinges to the bottom.
Prepare long planks. They will be located on the sides of the boxes and fixed to them with hinges. The length of the slats is equal to the length of the back wall.

Drill the holes for the hinges. In our case, a plastic pipe is used as a hinge, the same holes should be prepared. The location of the holes depends on the distance between the drawers.
Fasten the hinges of the drawers to the wall, place them evenly and in such a way that they do not touch each other when turning.

Insert pieces of plastic pipe into the holes, they perfectly perform the function of hinges. The length of the pipe is equal to the total thickness of the walls of the boxes and long strips.

Connect the two end elements and check the functionality: raise and lower them. They must freely make all movements and be constantly located in a horizontal position. There are problems - fix them, everything is normal - start assembling the shelves.

Assembly

Fix three strong hinges in the upper part of the wall, screw them to the element installed on the wall.

Screw the first drawer on the hinges to the end of the bottom of the wall.

Insert plastic tubes into the holes and slide two long strips over them. It is they who hold the boxes in an upright position when the shelf is lifted to the ceiling.

Insert all the boxes into the tubes one by one and screw them with hinges to the wall.

If there are doubts about the strength of plastic pipes, then you can make a wooden axle, the outer diameter should correspond to the conditional diameter of the pipes. Cut the axle into pieces of appropriate length and hammer into the tubes.

If the corners of the long planks abut when lifting, then their corners must also be cut. To improve the appearance, process on a milling machine. You can immediately increase the diameter of the holes slightly. In them, the tubes must rotate freely, and sit rigidly in the walls of the boxes. Large washers can be used to reduce the friction of honey with strips and drawers.
Drill holes in the center of each pivot and connect all elements with countersunk bolts. This will prevent spontaneous disconnection of the structure. Saw off the long ends of the bolts with a hacksaw, cover the nuts with caps.

Check the functionality. Everything is in order - in the same way, attach the long slats to the part of the shelf mounted on the wall, tighten with bolts.

To facilitate the lifting of the structure, gas lifts or springs can be installed. Using the same technology, you can make a second, third, etc. shelf.
It is recommended to nail two stops to the lower part, they will reduce the support of the structure at the selected angle, which will facilitate access to the drawers and improve the design of the room.
This completes all the complex work. It remains to come up with fixing the shelf in the raised position. But first you need to make a wooden frame and nail it securely to the floor beams.

None of the car owners will refuse to install comfortable shelves in their garage, it is simply impossible to do without them, since there is a great variety of necessary things that should always be at hand.

In this article, we will tell you what materials are used to make racks in the garage, how to make them yourself, according to the size of your room, how to arrange it more conveniently so that tools and spare parts are neatly stored, and there is space and order in the garage.

Shelving types

First you need to decide what kind of rack to make in the garage so that it is comfortable, functional and takes up a minimum of space, consider the main types:

  1. Stationary shelving it is designed for a specific place, its design does not imply movement or disassembly, for strength and stability it is attached to the wall, ceiling or floor with dowels, brackets or anchors. The shelves on such a rack are made non-removable.
  2. Collapsible shelving assembled by the type of a constructor on bolts. It is good because on it you can change the location, height, width of the shelves, as well as move it, add or reduce the number of sections.

  1. similar in design to collapsible, but put on wheels or a cart. The disadvantage of this type is to limit the load, it is usually small in size, it can be rolled out onto the street or, if necessary, moved around the garage.
  2. designed for storing long materials, tires, wheels in a suspended state, such a structure is usually made complete with a regular rack and occupies a small part of the garage wall. It represents the racks on which the brackets are fixed.

If you have decided what kind of rack to make in the garage, then let's look at the materials for its manufacture.

Materials for garage shelving

In garages, wooden or metal racks are especially popular, there is also plastic, but it is less durable and quickly deteriorates. Alternatively, you can combine materials, for example, a wooden frame and plastic shelves, but again, such shelves cannot withstand a heavy load, and this factor is most important in the garage, since most storage items are heavy.

Let's talk about the advantages, disadvantages and the manufacture of shelving from each material.

Wooden shelving

The most affordable wood in terms of cost and availability is pine, a rack made of it will last a long time, but it is quite fragile and quickly destructible.

In order not to build a new rack every five years, it is still better to choose harder types of wood, for example, oak or larch, for reliability and greater durability.

  • Making wooden shelving with your own hands is cheaper and easier.
  • No specialist involvement required and additional tools, it is enough to have a standard carpenter's set at hand - a hacksaw, a hammer, an ax.
  • A wooden rack is easy to make the desired size and configuration.
  • A failed section or shelf can always be replaced with a new one without laborious disassembly of the entire structure.

The disadvantages of a wooden rack include its stationarity. It is good if you do not need to rearrange or move it, since moving the structure will lead to loosening or even breaking. This type is usually set "permanently" and dead-fastened to the walls or floor.

I must also say about the increased fire hazard of wooden shelving. And in combination with oil and other combustible compounds, which the wood perfectly absorbs, the risk of fire increases.

Important! Before making racks in the garage, you need to decide on the dimensions, the safe passage between the car and the rack shelves should be at least 1 meter in order to avoid accidental mechanical damage to the car and ease of movement.

Features of the manufacture of wooden shelving

When installing a wooden structure, experts advise adhering to the following recommendations:

  • All elements of the rack must be treated with an antiseptic against decay and fire retardant impregnation, which reduces the risk of fire. Particular attention should be paid to the ends of the boards, because they require repeated application of protective equipment.

  • It is better to make the height of the shelf under the ceiling to increase functionality, and the length - according to the size of the wall.
  • At each end, a gap of 50–100 mm is left between the wall and the rack for ease of installation.
  • The assembly is carried out on self-tapping screws; to increase the strength of the structure, metal corners are installed at the joints under the shelves.
  • The width of the shelves is determined independently, but it is not recommended to make it more than 50-60 cm, too deep shelves are not very convenient to use.
  • For racks, a beam of 100x100 mm is taken, the crossbars are made of a bar of a smaller section, for example, 50x70 or 50x50 mm.
  • It is recommended to make the distance between the racks no more than 1 m, boards on long shelves can sag and break under heavy spare parts, and short ones will not accommodate everything you need.

  • The wood should be free of rot, wormholes, knots, cracks, and blue, which is especially prone to decay over time.
  • The shelves are covered with a 100x50 or 100x40 mm board, or with chipboard sheets.
  • For round parts, in order to avoid falling, a side is made on some shelves.
  • A wooden home-made garage rack for the rigidity of the structure on the back and at the ends is reinforced with kosoura (diagonal braces).
  • For safety and stability, it is recommended to place large shelves at the bottom of the rack for bulky and heavy items, and in the middle and at the top - smaller ones for lighter items.

A properly built rack in a garage made of wood with your own hands will serve you for more than one year, but it will have to be periodically covered with protective compounds and painted with wear-resistant paint.

Metal shelving

Steel shelves are more laborious to assemble, their price is quite high, but in terms of strength, metal is much superior to wood, and its service life is many times longer. You can, of course, order a ready-made set of collapsible racks, detailed instructions will help you quickly and efficiently mount it, but it will be more expensive.

It will be cheaper to assemble garage racks with your own hands, especially since in this case you can use used metal. It will be necessary to remove rust from it with a special compound, prime it with anti-corrosion impregnation and paint it with resistant paint for metal.

Metal shelving for garage

Advantages of metal shelving:

  • Strength and durability.
  • High resistance to gasoline, oil, aggressive chemical environment.
  • Moisture resistance.
  • Resistant to mold, mildew and other microorganisms.
  • Fire safety.
  • Insensitive to seasonal temperature changes.

In other words, you get an almost eternal steel structure, it will serve as long as you need it or until you get bored without replacement.

Important! It is better to assemble racks for welding, this method will give the structure rigidity and additional strength. If this option is not suitable, then bolts are used.

Features of the manufacture and assembly of metal shelving

As already mentioned, shelving shelves in the garage can be made of used metal, but a number of measures will have to be taken to enable its further service.

If you decide to purchase a new material, then it is best to take galvanized, it does not require additional surface treatment. Chrome or nickel-plated elements are perfect for shelving, but the cost of such a structure will be much higher.

How to make a shelving in a garage? If you adhere to the following recommendations, you can get an excellent, strong and durable design.

So:

  • For external vertical racks of the frame, you can take a round or profile pipe, channel, large corner, it must be remembered that the main load will be distributed on them, therefore, it is not recommended to save on the dimensions of the cross-section of the products.
  • It is desirable that all the racks are solid, but if you have to dock, then the joints must be given special attention, for their strength it is better to weld them together.

  • On the racks, you need to outline the locations for installing horizontal ties under the shelves. It is important that they are in the same plane.
  • The distance between the racks is 80–100 cm, the height of the shelves decreases from the bottom to the top.
  • Above, you can leave space for a high shelf for storing bulky light items.
  • It is best to assemble the frame for welding, constantly checking with the level and building angle the verticality and horizontalness of the parts, as well as the corners of the connection of the shelves with the racks.
  • For the frame crossbars, a 50x50 or 50x70 mm corner is perfect, the shelf of which will serve as a side to protect against falling or rolling off things.
  • For the finished frame, it is necessary to check the diagonals, and at the back, install intersecting braids from the reinforcement for additional structural rigidity.
  • It is recommended to weld 1–2 additional stiffeners under the shelves on which it is planned to place massive objects.

Important! The lower shelves, on which items of heavy weight will be stored, should preferably be made of metal, preferably corrugated; boards or chipboard are used for the upper shelves.

  • Since the board does not work well for bending, it is better to install it in the frame across the rack.
  • Welded joints are treated with an anti-corrosion agent, the entire rack is primed and covered with durable wear-resistant paint.

The photos and videos in this article provide tips and tricks on this topic, we hope that we helped you figure out how to arrange garage shelving.

Consider how to make shelves in the garage with your own hands to store the necessary auxiliary equipment and various tools for car care.

Garage racks - a wealth of choice of designs

The shelves in the garage make it possible to compactly place in a limited area many parts and tools for servicing the vehicle, as well as various household belongings that did not find a place in the apartment. For this reason, every car enthusiast installs racks in the "car house". They provide order in the garage and allow you to find the desired item in seconds.

You can equip a hangar for a car with purchased shelves. Such designs are sold today for every taste. But even very expensive and sophisticated racks will not always satisfy your individual needs. It is much wiser to make shelves in the garage with your own hands, choosing the dimensions of such structures that are optimal for yourself.

According to the installation option, the racks for the car box are divided into the following groups:

  • collapsible;
  • stationary;
  • mobile;
  • hinged;
  • rotating.

Collapsible shelves can be mounted anywhere in the garage, change, if necessary, their location, width, height and layout. Stationary structures are created for installation in any specific area of the room. They are placed once and for all, fixed to the ceiling, wall or floor surface. In terms of strength indicators, stationary racks are more reliable than collapsible ones.

Transportable structures are equipped with rollers that allow them to be moved around the entire garage. They are essentially a small cart. It's comfortable. But it should be understood that such racks are not able to withstand excessively high loads. Therefore, bulky and massive equipment cannot be stored on them.

Hanging shelves are rarely equipped at home. They must be suspended and secured directly below the ceiling surface, which can be difficult. Although theoretically it is quite possible. Rotating structures can also be considered a rare occurrence. They are visually similar to CD stands. On such mini-racks you can store every little thing - screwdrivers, keys, they are not suitable for a larger tool.

You have to choose the number of shelves on the shelves and their geometric dimensions yourself. Professionals advise to design the structure for the garage in such a way that all the tools used for servicing the vehicle can be placed on the shelves. In other words, it is advisable to make the racks roomy.

The most popular materials for making garage shelves are metal and wood. If you plan to install the structure for a long time, it is better to use metal products that are durable and maximum strength. If you want to save on materials and not delay installation work, make a rack in the garage with your own hands from wood. Working with lighter wood is much easier than working with metal.

Also, shelves these days are made of plastic (you can buy them in the store) and combined ones - of steel and wood or of plastic and metal.

As with any comparatively complex product, the rack must first be designed on paper. This can be done using ready-made drawings. It is easy and independently to draw up a sketch of the future structure, indicating the parameters of the shelves in it. In this case, the shelving will be perfect for your garage.

It is usually recommended to place the rack along one wall of the room. The optimal height of the structure is from the floor to the ceiling itself (no motorist wants to lose a single square centimeter of free space). Of course, if your garage is very high, the shelves can be made not to the ceiling surface, so as not to suffer from climbing stairs to the very top for some detail.

The lower shelves are always made more spacious and high. They are designed to store wheels, large tools. The shelves that are located at the top of the structure are best made low. On them you will store any light little things. This ensures good shelf stability.

At the bottom, it is imperative to leave a gap of 15–20 cm between the structure and the floor covering.

It will give you the ability to easily sweep the floor under the rack. In addition, the pros are advised to drill small holes in the shelves for tools, cans, wheels. They will act as natural ventilation for the stored items, thereby protecting them from rusting, and will also allow you to sweep small debris and dust from the shelves without any problems.

The length of the rack is usually also made for the entire width of the wall, leaving about 8-10 cm of free space on the sides of the structure. This will make it easier for you to carry out the installation work. Choose the depth of the shelves yourself. At the same time, remember that too narrow niches are not suitable for storing large-sized tools, and excessively deep ones are inconvenient to use (try to reach something with your hands from a shelf about a meter deep). The recommended depth of garage shelving niches is approximately 60 cm.

The most common width of the shelves (meaning the distance between the two vertical supports of the structure) is 100 cm. You can make the width 30-50 cm wider if the shelf is intended for storing bulky (for example, wheels) or heavy metal products.

We make a metal rack with wooden shelves

A popular option for arranging garages is a construction with a metal frame (it will stand, without exaggeration, for decades) and wooden shelves. You can make the vertical racks of such racks from rectangular profiles with dimensions of one side 4–5 cm or from a corner with a shelf of 3–5 cm.

The frame itself is made from a corner with a 1.5–2.5 cm shelf and bolted to vertical rails or welded to them. The welded joint holds the structure as firmly as possible, making it faster and easier. There is more trouble with bolts, but you get the opportunity, if necessary, to change the height of the shelves of the rack.

The shelves are made of boards with a thickness of 1.5–2.5 cm. In this case, they will be truly durable. You can also make them from ordinary or film faced plywood or wood-based products. Before installation, wooden shelves must be protected from moisture and fungus - they are oiled and painted.

Thus, the scheme for preparing components for the rack, and then assembling and installing them, is as follows:

  1. Using a grinder, we cut metal blanks according to the specified dimensions.
  2. We mark the position of the racks vertically and immediately mark the places where the shelves will be fixed.
  3. We weld (bolt on) the corners (here it is important to control the horizontal arrangement of the elements).
  4. We apply a primer to the frame and paint it with a corrosion-resistant compound.
  5. We cut wood shelves and "try on" them, placing them across the frame. You can install the boards and along, but in this case, they can bend under the weight of large tools and spare parts.
  6. We saturate (paint) wooden products and fix them with a metal frame. It is advisable to fit the boards to each other as tightly as possible.

The rack is ready. If you are not entirely sure about the high stability of the structure, you can additionally attach it to the garage wall with steel brackets.

Wooden shelving - everything is very simple

Garage shelves made of wood are cheaper. Plus, they're easier to build and install. Therefore, many car owners decide to acquire just such designs. Here, however, it is worth remembering that wooden shelves are operated less in time than metal or combined ones.

Ideally, the shelves are made of hardwood such as oak. But pine boards are also quite suitable - inexpensive and affordable. It is important that they are well dried, free from large cracks and knots, deep wormholes and mold marks.

Racks (vertical) are made of timber 10x5 or 10x10 cm, shelves - from chipboards or ordinary boards, cross-members - from a bar of a smaller section or even from boards (but their thickness should be impressive).

  1. We cut boards and beams according to the given dimensions, treat them with an antiseptic composition.
  2. We assemble the structure using lugs, spikes, wood glue or self-tapping screws to connect individual parts.
  3. The joints of the parts to give the structure a larger area are reinforced with metal corners.
  4. We paint the finished rack (it is desirable to paint the ends in several layers).

In a similar way, you can make metal structures for a garage. But, of course, it will be much more difficult for you to cut to the required dimensions and mount heavy racks, as well as other elements of the rack.
