The classification of roses is very complex and confusing, so we will not delve into the wilds of ground cover or scrubs, but simply decide on the task. St. Petersburg is a short and cool summer. And we need large-flowered, fragrant and plentiful blooming roses. Therefore, most hybrid teas can be safely brushed aside.

The only problem is that these roses bloom in waves, gaining strength between blooms. In the south, in the conditional sixth climatic zone, there can be two or three such waves, or even almost non-stop flowering. And in the north, in the third or fourth zone, there are a maximum of two waves. Roses love warmth, sun and permeable soils, which is a clear lack in St. Petersburg. But the roses are very worthy, so I still recommend it.
More resistant to weather conditions, which we actually need, are ground cover and bush roses, the so-called park or landscape roses. The first ones practically do not get sick, but they do not smell at all. The latter are often weakly fragrant, with medium-sized flowers. However, in both the first and second cases, the size of the flower is more than offset by the abundance of flowering.
For example, perhaps the most well-known variety of ground cover (sometimes sold as polyanthus or miniature climbing) that produces a flurry of flowers is The Fairy. This is a photo of my friend Anna, who lives in the north of Denmark.
Park roses are, as a rule, once flowering varieties with small flowers. They are very frost-resistant, but most of them look like wild roses, and Nadya needs an exclusive.
And although she wanted precisely large-flowered roses, I still dare to advise her a few exceptional roses, which are the most suitable for solitary plantings, and for arrays in rather harsh conditions. Especially since they bloom all the time!
Lens roses, musky hybrids, are well suited to cool places. They are mostly not even terry, but how plentiful!

Very rare, because. still relatively new, Persian Mystery by Harkness, 2009. This is a hybrid of Hulthemia persica, with a rather noticeable smell and unusual coloring of large flowers. Or my favorite Chippendale from Tantau Germany, 2006 (right). This is a hybrid tea rose in its origin, but the flowers are of obvious old form with a wonderful smell.
