How to hang metal horizontal blinds. How to hang a roller blind on a plastic window

When choosing blinds, they take into account not only their external design, but also the functional purpose of the room in which they are to be used, the style and operational conditions of the room. The last point is especially important, because the material of manufacture can be different: bamboo, fabric, aluminum.

So that during the installation process there are no difficulties, it is necessary to correctly measure the window opening - this will allow you to purchase a product of the required size or order it correctly from a blind manufacturing company.

Features and purpose of blinds

The main characteristic of blinds is simple installation, in which the products are quickly and easily fixed in the window opening. Convenient control process allows you to effectively change the level of illumination of the room.

When choosing blinds, one should decide not only on the appearance and material of the blinds, but also on the method of fixing them on a plastic window, so that their operation is as efficient as possible.

The main element of the blinds is the slats. They may be:

  1. Vertical or horizontal.
  2. Rolled or pleated.
  3. Fabric, plastic, wood, aluminum.

The location method is different:

  1. Inside the window opening - in the overlay.
  2. On the sash of a plastic window.
  3. Above the window opening. Fixation is made to the wall.

Note! When choosing between the first and second method of fixing, the width of the window sill and the depth of the window opening are taken into account. In the third case, the window opening is completely closed.

More about types of blinds

The main function is to protect rooms and furniture from direct sunlight. Traditional curtains can also cope with this task, but the advantage of blinds in this case is that they do not interfere with the circulation of fresh air, and also allow you to adjust the light intensity in the room in a wide range - from complete darkness to filling the room with sunlight. It doesn't take much effort.

Blinds can be used in many modern and some classic styles. Most of all, they correspond to the trends of minimalist interiors - they allow you to efficiently use free space, do not require much space, and are easy to use and maintain.

Table 1. The most common types of blinds

A practical option, they reliably close the room from prying eyes and sunlight. Fixed to the wall or to the window sash. The second method is more practical, since it does not affect the functionality (opening, closing) of the window system. Most often, such blinds are made in the form of thin aluminum slats, therefore they are popular in rooms with high humidity - in the bathroom and in the kitchen. The movement of the canvas is possible only up / down. The intensity of the illumination is regulated by the mobility of the lamellas.

Presented by fabric vertical lamellas of the same width. They are fixed to the wall in such a way that it is possible to open the sash for ventilation. The control method involves not only changing the angle of the lamellae, but also moving them to the left, right or in both directions (like a curtain).

They are represented by a solid, dense canvas that shades the room. When opened, the web is rolled into a roll. Used together with light curtains.

A practical option, involving the installation of the box in the frame, which does not interfere with the free opening of the window sashes.

Self-installation of blinds

One of the advantages of blinds is that you can install them yourself. However, before it comes down to it, it is necessary to correctly measure the window opening in order to purchase a product with the desired parameters. The measurements are influenced by the chosen fixation method:

  1. When fastened to the overlay, 10 cm are added to the obtained value of the width and height of the window opening.
  2. When installed inside the window opening, the height is taken in its pure form, and 1.5 cm is subtracted from the width.
  3. When fixing in the sash, 2 cm are subtracted from its width, and 3 cm from the height.

Note! The ease of use of the blinds depends on the location of the control mechanism. If it is planned to install products in both sashes, then the cords of the different halves should be located on the right and left so that they do not interfere with each other.

Fixing with screws is the most reliable, but it is not suitable if you intend to periodically change the method of curtain. After drilling, holes remain on the surface of the window profile. In this case, choose fixing with screws to the wall.

Measurement

When installed in a window opening, a total of 4 cm is subtracted from its width (2 on each side) - this value corresponds to the width of the blinds. Their height is calculated as follows: H of the window opening - 2 cm. It is necessary to provide for the presence of a gap between the upper edge of the window and the blinds so that they do not interfere with its opening.

For installation outside the window opening, when the room is completely darkened and the window is completely closed, the width of the product is taken as the value of the width of the window opening, adding 5 cm on each side. 10 cm is added to the height of the window opening.

When installed in a sash, they open together with the fixed blinds. Their width corresponds to the width of the glass unit, adding 1.5 cm to each side. It is important that the blinds do not interfere with the free movement of the window handle.

When the window is located in the same plane with the wall, metal brackets are used to fix the blinds, allowing them to be positioned at a certain distance from the window. Add 10 cm to the width of the blinds on each side.

High-quality fixing of the blinds will allow the use of dowels and screws that correspond to the parameters of the fasteners used. It is also worth considering the material of the walls and ceiling, if the fastening will be carried out to them.

Note! Before you start drilling the holes for the fasteners, it is important to make sure that when folded, the blinds installed in the chosen way will not interfere with the free opening of the window. You should also make sure that objects on the windowsill, heating devices and structural elements will not interfere with the proper functioning of the blinds.

The main methods of fastening are:

  1. Drilling.
  2. Fixation on double-sided tape.
  3. Fixation with magnets.
  4. Fixation on brackets.

Installation of horizontal blinds

Horizontal blinds are sold complete with a complete set of fasteners and fittings. To install them, you only need a screwdriver. But first you need to choose the color of the product.

Then the window opening is measured.

After manufacturing or purchasing a product in a store, they begin to install it.

In some cases, it may be necessary to adjust the product in width or length. To correct the slats in width, an equal distance is marked on both sides. The lamellas are cut with scissors, and the cornice and rail with a hacksaw.

In order to shorten the canvas, it is necessary to untie the knots under the lower guide and remove the excess fragments. Then the lower guide is fixed in place, the canvas is leveled, the cords are tied and plugs are installed.

Installation of vertical blinds

The design of vertical structures is much more varied than that of horizontal ones. There are many color variations, lamellas with patterns, patterns and photo printing, multilayer designs. The advantage is that such blinds can be hung on large and irregularly shaped openings - for example, when designing beveled window openings in the attic.

The main structural elements are: cornice, runners, slats and chains. The measurements of the window are made after the method of fastening the structure has been chosen - to the wall or to the ceiling.

If necessary, the length of the lamellas can be easily adjusted. To do this, they are pruned, guided by the instructions on the package. The width of the lamella is adjusted by removing excess fragments and cutting the cornice with a hacksaw for metal.

When choosing the material for the manufacture of lamellas, the operating conditions in the room are taken into account.

Installation of roller blinds

When installing roller blinds, there are several ways to fix them. Traditional - on self-tapping screws and alternative - on double-sided tape or clip-holder, which is installed on the sash.

Externally, roller blinds are represented by a smooth fabric that curls when lifted into a roll. The canvas is quite dense, so it perfectly shades the room. The width of roller blinds is different, but it is more convenient to mount it on each sash, so that the accessory does not interfere with the normal functioning of the window.

Fastening can be done without drilling. To do this, the compact upper shaft with the canvas is attached to a special bearing element fixed to the sash. From below, the canvas is fixed with magnets.

Note! When installing roller blinds, the distance to which the window handle protrudes is taken into account - it should not protrude through the canvas. Therefore, the fastening is carried out using brackets that form a sufficient distance between the sash and the curtain.

Not many people know that blinds were invented several centuries ago. Today it is one of the most popular decorative and protective devices for windows. The article will discuss how to independently hang blinds on plastic windows. You will be able to find out what types of window multi-leaf curtains are and how to correctly install vertical and horizontal blinds.

Views

Blinds- one of the types of window curtains, devices in the form of rigid, parallel to each other and adjustable plates, made of various materials - fabric, wood, metal, plastic. They have several functions:

  • protect from light;
  • decorate the window;
  • regulate air flows.
There are several types of blinds. The most common ones are:
  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • roll;
  • pleated.
We propose to understand the advantages and disadvantages of each type.

Did you know? The official history of the invention of blinds begins in 1841. It was in this year that their production was patented by the American John Hampton, although the production of hard curtains was carried out before. So, since the 1760s, they were produced in Philadelphia by the Englishman John Webster.

Horizontal

Horizontal or Venetian blinds are thin plates (lamellas), which are located one above the other like a staircase. They are connected to each other by a cord that allows them to be opened and closed, as well as to adjust the height. The plates are controlled using a rotary rod. Lamellas can be made of different materials - wood, metal, bamboo, fabric.

The main advantages of these types of curtains are:

  • good protection from sunlight;
  • increased heat transfer;
  • the ability to adjust the intensity of lighting;
  • reliability;
  • durability;
  • ease of care and operation;
  • the ability to visually expand the size of the room;
  • easy installation;
  • the ability to use for any premises, including a kitchen, bath, balcony;
  • low cost.
There are probably no drawbacks to horizontal blinds. They can be present only depending on the material from which they are made. We will describe them in more detail in a separate section below.

Vertical

Vertical blinds appeared somewhat later than horizontal ones - in 1960. Nevertheless, they quickly gained popularity and today are successfully used for decorating various premises.

These are plastic, metal or fabric lamellas, suspended on the cornice in a vertical position parallel to each other and connected at the bottom with a cord. They are regulated by a lateral mechanism that rotates the plates - with the help of a decorative cord (chain) they rotate, with the help of a rope they move to one side, completely or partially opening the window.

The advantages of vertical blinds are:

  • versatility - the possibility of installation in window openings, to the ceiling, to the wall above the window, installation in dormers and ordinary windows;
  • ease of installation;
  • ease of care;
  • effective regulation of sunlight flux;
  • good air access when darkening;
  • the ability to combine with conventional curtains;
  • the ability to visually increase the height of the room.
Among the disadvantages are:
  • inconvenience when sliding to the side when opening a window;
  • the impossibility of placing flowers on the windowsill when mounted in a window opening.

Roll

Roller blinds have recently entered the field of vision of modern apartment design. They are preferred by those who love coziness and comfort in the house. They are the ones who are able to create them in the bedroom, living room and kitchen. In addition, the appearance of roller blinds is more attractive than other types, while the functionality also remains at its best.

They are designed in the form of a horizontal shaft on which a roll of fabric is wound, and a control mechanism in the form of a cord, a spring holder or an electric drive. The fabric can be lowered and raised to the desired length, completely or partially covering the window. Roller blinds are mounted in the window opening, on the ceiling or on the wall, on the window sash.

The advantages of roller blinds are:

  • ease of use;
  • ease of care - the fabric is impregnated with a dust and water repellent composition;
  • the ability to implement any design idea;
  • durability;
  • good protection from sunlight and overheating of the room;
  • the ability to create any degree of room illumination;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • ergonomics;
  • the ability to install on roof windows;
  • when installed on each sash, there is no interference with the opening of windows and decoration of the window sill;
  • the possibility of making curtains from transparent materials.

The disadvantages include the price, which is much higher than that of the more familiar and common horizontal and vertical designs, as well as the fragility of the spring holder.

One of the types of roller blinds is cassette. This is an option designed for plastic windows. It is assumed that the slats or a fabric roll, when closed, are hidden in a specially designed box (cassette) attached to the window sash.

This design allows you to save space, free up the window and sill, and additionally protect the material from dust, dirt, deformation. Cassette options are made of fabric, bamboo, aluminum, plastic. There are three types of cassettes: round, corner and flat.

Pleated

Another option for fabric blinds is pleated. As the name implies, these are fabric curtains gathered in a small fold. Their choice is huge and is represented by various colors, density of fabric material, shapes. Some of them are sewn according to a special pattern.

Thanks to this, pleated curtains can fit into any interior, creating an original setting. This option is a piece of fabric that is attached to a special profile and controlled with a chain, cord or electric drive.

Advantages of pleated curtains:

  • originality;
  • external attractiveness;
  • good functionality;
  • durability;
  • reliability;
  • miniature design;
  • the ability to design a window of any shape and from any material.

Original and sophisticated interior solutions are not complete without the use of multi-textured blinds, i.e. those in which the lamellas are made of various materials using a variety of decor.

Varieties of material

As already mentioned, at different times the blinds were made from different textures. Today, the most common materials for hard window curtains are fabric, plastic and aluminum, less often wood. Each of them has both pros and cons.

Tissue

Textile blinds- this is one of the best options for decorating windows and protecting the premises from the sun's rays in apartments and houses. There are both horizontal and vertical designs.

Many people are attracted by the appearance and a huge selection of colors of fabric blinds, but they are discouraged by the opinion that they will require the same care as ordinary curtains. However, it is not.

Blinds textiles are impregnated with special impregnations that do not allow dirt, dust and moisture to be absorbed. Care will consist only in periodically wiping the material with a slightly damp cloth and vacuuming.
High-quality textile blinds do not fade, do not deform, fit into any interior, and are not too expensive. However, compared to metal, plastic and wood structures, they have a shorter service life. Textile models are not the best option for a kitchen or catering establishments, as they can absorb odors.

Did you know? The first blinds were made from wooden plates. They were replaced by metal curtains. After World War II, fabrics were also used to make window protectors.

Plastic

One of the most purchased types, due to its low price and the possibility of using it in various premises - office, apartment, public, utility, with high humidity. The polymers from which the lamellas are made can be with varying degrees of light transmission, all kinds of colors, with or without patterns. They are practical, lightweight, easy to install and maintain, and are sold at an optimal price.
Among the disadvantages:

  • creating noise in a draft with open windows;
  • some polymers turn yellow upon prolonged exposure to sunlight;
  • cannot be used near stoves and other heating devices due to low resistance to fire;
  • the release of toxic substances in a fire.

Aluminum

Along with plastic blinds, aluminum blinds are also popular. They have high strength, durability, fire resistance, the ability to withstand different temperatures and moisture. Most often used to protect windows in public places, offices, medical institutions. They have an attractive price. They can be horizontal, vertical, cassette.

Among the disadvantages is a heavier weight, creating a noise effect in a draft.

Wooden

Wood blinds are used in certain types of interiors, they go well with fabric curtains and natural wood furniture. They create a warm, homely atmosphere. They are reliable, durable, durable, environmentally friendly, well protected from the sun. Moreover, they are one of the most expensive options.

Installation technology

You can install blinds without the help of professionals. We offer you instructions for working with horizontal and vertical rigid curtains.

Horizontal

Horizontal structures can be fixed in four ways:

  • to the ceiling;
  • to the wall above the window;
  • in the window opening;
  • to the window sashes.
First you need to take measurements. The height and width of the window opening is measured with a tape measure. On a sheet of paper, it is necessary to draw a diagram of the window, on which measurements can be made in the future.

When installing curtains in a window opening their size is calculated by subtracting 1 cm from the height, 2 cm from the width.

When installed over a window opening the size of the blinds is calculated based on the addition of 5-7 cm to its height and 20 cm to the width.

When fastened to the sash the width is measured from the junction of the glazing bead with the window on the left side to the junction of the glazing bead with the window on the right side, adding 1 cm.

When measuring height on a blank window 3 cm is added to the distance from the glazing bead to the glazing bead, on the sash - 4 cm.

Video: how to correctly measure horizontal blinds

Conventional horizontal blinds consist of the following elements:

  • upper part - pivot axle, rollers, cornice, brackets, cord retainer, swivel mechanism, top cover;
  • middle part - lamellas and plug;
  • lower part - lower cornice, side covers.
The following tools are required for installation:
  • screwdriver;
  • pencil;
  • screws.

The technology for installing ready-made aluminum blinds on plastic windows is as follows:
  1. Straighten the structure.
  2. Remove the control handle.
  3. Attach the fasteners to the top bar.
  4. Attach the structure to the installation site and mark the attachment points for the brackets. The distance between them must be at least 60 cm.
  5. Attach brackets to a wall, window frame or sash.
  6. Insert the top cornice into the brackets.
  7. Open the blinds and mark the attachment points for the lower clips.
  8. Attach the bottom clips.
  9. Insert the adjusting knob.

Important!Make sure that the brackets do not get caught in the control mechanism, cord retainer or caliper..

Video: installing horizontal blinds

If the finished blinds are longer than necessary, they can be trimmed. To do this, it is necessary to remove the side and remove the lower clips from the lower bar. Then pull the cord knots out of the two holes formed and untie them. Remove excess slats. Reinsert the cords into the holes in the lower plank and tie the knots. Return the bottom and side clips.

You can shorten the blinds in width, but this is much more difficult. In order not to spoil the curtain, it is better to contact the master. You will need a fine-toothed hacksaw for trimming. The lamellas should be folded into one strip and sawn off to the required length. Then polish the ends with a file, if necessary, touch up.

Installing roller blinds

To install roller blinds on a wall, in an opening or on a ceiling, you will need to drill and have a drill or punch, depending on the material from which the ceiling and walls are made. Roller blinds are attached to plastic or wooden windows using double-sided tape and PVC staples without drilling.

In the event that the blinds are attached to the sash, then to calculate their sizes, you will need to know not only the width and height of the window, but also the depth of the glazing bead. The choice of the system will depend on the last size. With a glazing bead depth over 1.5 cm, you need to pay attention to the Uni type system, up to 1.5 cm - Profil and Minі.
Add 3 cm to the width of the glass - this will be the width of the curtain. The length of standard curtains is about 2 m. If they are too long for your windows, they can be trimmed.

Important! The length of the roller blinds is calculated on the assumption that there must be at least 50 cm of fabric on the roll.

The technology for attaching roller blinds without drilling is as follows:

  1. Install a plug from one end of the roll, and a swivel mechanism with a plastic chain on the other.
  2. Insert the retainer into the bracket and fasten to the bracket.
  3. Install the brackets in the roll according to the instructions.
  4. Attach the curtain to the attachment point.
  5. Mark the attachment points for the brackets.
  6. Check that nothing is preventing the curtain from opening.
  7. Degrease the attachment point of the brackets.
  8. Stick the scotch tape on the sash where the bracket is attached.
  9. Degrease the brackets.
  10. Peel off the protective tape of the tape.
  11. Hang the blinds by pressing the adhesive tape at the attachment point.

Video: how to install roller blinds

If you purchased a ready-made curtain, but it does not fit your window, then its size can be reduced. In order to shorten them in width, you will need to cut the roll, canvas and bottom rail. It is much easier to cut the fabric to length. The fabric is cut with regular scissors for a ruler, and then the lower strip is attached to it.

Installation of cassette blinds

Cassette blinds are also attached with tape. In order to install them, you must:

  1. Print the product.
  2. Degrease the attachment point to the window frame.
  3. Attach the cassette to the attachment point and lower the fabric to the lower position.
  4. Mark the location of the cassette with a pencil.
  5. Remove the protective tape from the tape glued to the back of the cassette.
  6. Place the cassette on the frame, press down and hold for a few seconds.
  7. Carefully peel off the protective tape from the top edge of the metal fabric guides on both sides.
  8. Install the guides into the groove of the cassette of the curtain body and push.
  9. Gradually removing the protective layer of adhesive tape, press the guides parallel to the frame glazing bead.
  10. Do the same from the other side.
  11. Install the limiter.

Vertical

Vertical curtains can be attached in three ways:

  • in the window opening;
  • to the wall above the window;
  • to the ceiling.
They can be left-handed, right-handed and centrally operated. Below you will find instructions on how to install vertical rigid curtains on your own.

In the window opening

To calculate the dimensions, you need to measure the width of the window opening and subtract 1-1.5 cm. Measure the height of the opening and subtract 1.5-2 cm. Measurements must be taken 5-7 cm deep into the opening, since it usually narrows. To make sure that the sash opens after installing the blinds, you need to measure the distance from the upper edge of the sash to the upper slope of the eaves installation point. The distance should be at least 4.5 cm. Otherwise, you will have to measure in the pad. Since the window can be uneven, the width and height must be measured at three points.

You can attach vertical blinds to the window opening in this way:

  1. Mark the attachment points.
  2. Drill holes.
  3. Install brackets.
  4. Insert the curtain rod into the special grooves on the holders and click the locks.
  5. Install the fabric.
  6. Insert weights.
  7. Secure the bottom chain.

Over windows

To calculate the size, add at least 18-20 cm to the width of the window opening on each side. You will also need to measure the distance from the ceiling to the upper corner of the slope. At least 10 cm should be retreated from the upper corner of the slope. Measurements with fastening to the ceiling are made by subtracting 1-2 cm from the distance "ceiling - windowsill", "ceiling - floor" - 4-7 cm.

Specialization: Master in the construction of plasterboard structures, finishing works and laying floor coverings. Installation of door and window blocks, decoration of facades, installation of electrical, plumbing and heating - I can give detailed advice on all types of work.

If you need high-quality protection of windows from sunlight or prying eyes, then the simplest solution is to install blinds on the windows. This option has a number of advantages: low cost, ease of installation and the ability to purchase products of any size. In the review, we will figure out how you can fix the structure, the ways of carrying out the work are different, so you will definitely find the right one.

Overview of mounting options

Now let's go directly to the workflow. When installed in different ways, the size of the blinds varies significantly. Therefore, I strongly recommend that you first read this section, choose the method that is most suitable, and only then order blinds according to the recommendations that will be given in the corresponding paragraph.

There is no need to rush, in construction and repair, this always leads to unnecessary costs or problems during work. Only after understanding all the nuances, proceed to the selection of the product and its installation.

Method 1 - fastening inside the opening

A very common solution that has a fairly simple workflow and is highly reliable. Do-it-yourself blinds installation on a plastic window can be done in several ways:

  • On the top of the window frame, this is a very popular solution due to its simplicity;
  • On the wall above the window, if the space in the opening allows this;
  • To the top of the opening, if it is not possible to use any of the above methods.

If you decide to use this particular option, then here are some recommendations on how to choose the optimal size of blinds:

  • The width of the system should be 4 cm less than the width of the opening, that is, you should have 2 cm gaps on both sides. This is necessary not only for the free movement of the structure, but also for the normal fastening of the upper box, since it can be wider than the lamellas themselves;

  • The height of the system must be 2 cm less than the height of the opening. But there is an important nuance - if one or two doors open, then the box should be positioned so as not to interfere with the work of the structure. If this does not work out, then it is better to use the option of fastening to the sash, which we will describe below.

To carry out the work, we need the following:

Equipment Description
Mounting brackets
Blinds You should purchase a ready-made kit according to the above recommendations. Usually the structure is assembled and you only need to see if the cord is tangled.
Mounting brackets Most often they are included, but sometimes you need to purchase them separately. For example, if you are going to mount the system to the ceiling, then the wall bracket may not work, although many modern manufacturers come with universal elements that can be used for any type of work.
Screwdriver With its help, self-tapping screws will be twisted, if you fix the blinds on the frame, then no other power tool will be needed
Perforator It is necessary when drilling an opening for the installation of dowels, with which the mounting brackets will be fixed. Naturally, the kit must include a drill of the appropriate diameter and length.
Measuring tool Of course, you cannot do without marking, for work you use a level, a ruler or tape measure and a pencil. It is important to place the blinds evenly, so do not do the work by eye

Now let's figure out how to properly install the structure:

  • First you need to unpack the blinds, make sure that everything is in order with them and there is no damage. Then the box is tried on to the opening, you must check if everything is in order and if all the dimensions match, it will not take much time, but everything will definitely be in order. If the sash opens at the window, then be sure to check if the box interferes with their movement, do not miss other trifles like handles on the windows, the blinds should not rest against them;

  • Using the level, you need to mark the horizontal on the surface, just put a couple of dots or strokes so that you can navigate them in the process. Next, brackets are applied and the points of drilling holes are marked, if you will be attached to a wall or the top of the opening, in case of fixing to the frame, you must also put points in the right places;
  • If you need to drill holes, then this part of the work is done, after which plastic dowels are inserted, holes for screws are obtained with which the fasteners will be fastened. In cases where you are attached to PVC, you can immediately screw special screws into plastic, they fit well into the material. It is much easier to work with a screwdriver, although a regular screwdriver will do;

  • If the brackets are installed correctly, then it will not be difficult to fix the container with blinds in them, it simply snaps into the fasteners. The structure must be held securely and not move in the attachment points;
  • Last of all, the operation of the system is checked, everything should move easily, without any problems and obstacles.

Method 2 - fastening outside the opening

Now let's figure out how to install the blinds outside the opening ourselves. This option is suitable for cases where the window is recessed shallowly into the wall and if you want to darken the room as best as possible, there are two ways of fixing:

  • If the window is located deep, then the structure is installed on the wall above the opening;
  • When the window is flush with the wall or slightly deepened, the installation is carried out on special brackets;
  • Sometimes fastening is made to, such a system is more often used in vertical blinds due to their large size.

Now let's figure out how to determine the optimal size of the blinds in this case:

  • The width of the product should be 10 cm wider than the width of the opening, so that from each side the system goes onto the walls by at least 5 cm, this will ensure high-quality darkening. The height can be 10 cm more than the opening if the window sill does not protrude or the size is calculated individually if there is a ledge;

When hanging the box, do not forget that it should not interfere with the opening of the doors, it is easiest to place it along the upper line of the opening.

  • If the window is flush with the wall and the blinds are mounted away from the wall, then the width of the structure should be at least 20 cm wider than the opening in order to ensure high-quality darkening. As for the height, it is determined based on whether the system will lower below the opening or will lie on the windowsill.

To work, you need the following list of tools:

  • A hammer drill with a drill of the right size;
  • Level and pencil for marking;
  • A screwdriver or screwdriver for tightening the fasteners.

The instructions for carrying out the work look like this:

  • First, you need to attach the blinds to the opening to make sure that you are not mistaken with the width. Using the level, marks are made in the right places, after which it is necessary to determine the exact position of the mounting brackets and mark the points at which these elements will be attached to the wall;

  • Drilling is carried out at the marked points, so as not to constantly check the depth, wrap electrical tape on the drill in the required place and navigate along it when working, so you will not make the holes too deep or too shallow;

If your structure is more than one and a half meters wide, then you should hang it not on two, but on three brackets to ensure the necessary rigidity and strength. For larger sizes, it is better to use aluminum products, they are less susceptible to deformation and retain a clear geometry for many years.

  • Attaching the brackets is quick and easy if you've drilled holes in the right places. The workflow is simple: first, plastic dowels are inserted and pressed against the stop, after which the supporting elements are attached and fixed using the screws included in the kit. They can be screwed in or simply hammered in with a hammer, the reliability of the fastening does not suffer from this;
  • The last stage is as follows: you need to insert the container into the latches, make sure that it is fixed securely, after which you can start checking the system's performance.

Method 3 - fastening to the sashes with clamps

Now let's figure out how to install plastic blinds on plastic windows, although the process is the same for products made from other materials. This option is perfect for windows in which one or more sashes open, separate elements are attached to each half of the glazing, which allows you to open not the entire opening, but part of it. In addition, such solutions do not interfere with the opening of windows, which is also important.

Fastening is always done to the frame, and you can do it as indicated in the first method - using self-tapping screws. But this solution has one significant drawback: if you decide to remove the blinds, then holes will remain on the surface, which you will hardly be able to get rid of. Therefore, it is better to use the technology from this section, then the frames will remain intact.

Let's consider how to determine the optimal size of the blinds in this case:

  • The width of the structure should be 3 cm more than the width of the glazing, that is, the overlap on the frame is 1.5 cm... It is important that the system does not rest against the handle and does not interfere with opening the window;
  • The height should be 3-5 cm higher than the height of the glass unit.

In this case, we need the following set of materials:

  • Blinds in finished form with a U-shaped upper part;
  • Plastic clips that are specially configured to be mounted on the frame and snapped into the shutter box;
  • Bottom holders that will fix the blinds in a taut position and prevent them from sagging, even if the window is open.

As for the tool, we do not need anything at all - only hands and the desire to carry out the installation without assistance.

Installation of blinds on a plastic window is carried out using the following technology:

  • First you need to open the sash and wipe it with a cloth, the structure must be clean;
  • The latches are placed on the frame on both sides of the sash with an indentation from the edges of at least a few centimeters if the width is large or the blinds are massive, then three fasteners can be used;
  • Last of all, under the outer part of the holders, the shutter box is started until it clicks. The protrusion of the retainer should fit into the groove in such a way as shown in the diagram below, everything is quite simple and easy;

  • Lastly, clips are installed at the bottom of the frame. It is important to clearly mark their position so that the open blinds are taut and not dangling. When the markup is complete, you can attach the elements using self-tapping screws or using double-sided tape so as not to damage the window profile.

Method 4 - mounting on universal brackets

This option resembles the one described above, but it also has a number of differences, so it should be considered separately. It also does not require drilling the sashes, no tools are needed to work, and the main fastening element is a universal mount, which is suitable for blinds, and for roller blinds and pleated blinds. That is, you get a platform on which you can mount different systems.

The list of materials and the measurement process is no different from the above option, so we will start right away with the installation process. The work is carried out in the following sequence:

  • First, you need to clean the surface of dust and degrease it, this will allow us to fix our elements as reliably as possible;
  • Then you need to stick double-sided tape to the back of the clips. There are different options in stores, choose better products that are designed for attaching heavy objects, so as not to worry about the reliability of the structure;

  • The bracket is inserted into the mounting platform if necessary, if you will fasten the structure to a blind sash, then the latch is not needed. This is a very big plus, since in the previous case it is impossible to attach blinds to blind doors without self-tapping screws;
  • Then a bracket of the configuration we need is attached to the base, short self-tapping screws are used for work so that they do not protrude from the back side;
  • Further, the elements are glued to the surface in the required places, and in the case of opening flaps, they are also snapped onto the upper end;
  • Last of all, the shutter box is fixed - and the structure is ready for use, everything is simple and quick.

If you are thinking how to install plastic blinds on windows, then this option is perfect, because the structure is lightweight and double-sided tape will easily hold it.

Output

Installation of blinds can be carried out without hiring specialists, any of the above options for carrying out work is within the power of even an inexperienced master. The video in this article will help you understand the topic even better, and if you have additional questions, then write them in the comments below.

Large windows are a hallmark of modern housing. Sometimes a lot of light gets in the way and doesn't let you relax. Every owner thinks about installing blinds on the plastic windows of his home.

Of course, blinds play a big role for a comfortable stay. Depending on the intensity of the sunlight, the rooms facing the south and east sides, they can be either completely closed or only partially covered. And also the purpose of the room itself plays a significant role. For example, it is better to choose transparent structures in the dining room, but in the bedroom you need those that can completely prevent the penetration of sunlight into the room.

Blinds play a big role for a comfortable stay

But in addition to the above function, these structures also protect against noise that may come from the street.

In addition, blinds are a great decoration for windows. Smooth stripes look stylish and strict and do not require much maintenance.

Of course, it's best to install them yourself. But each owner is faced with the problem of choosing: which blinds are suitable for his particular room, what to choose - vertical or horizontal. After all, home comfort and coziness depends on the correctness of the decision taken.

In a modern apartment, blinds are a common thing.

In a modern apartment, blinds are commonplace. These original curtain substitutes have long been included in our lives. They give the space a certain aesthetics, elegance, beauty. Skillful use of them allows you to emphasize the merits and hide the flaws.

The modern market offers many types of blinds. They differ from each other in size, shape, direction of the strips themselves, material of manufacture and even in color.

In general, there are three main types:

  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • roll.

Horizontal. This type is most suitable for living quarters. Such blinds can be mounted both inside the window, on each of its sash, and outside, closing the entire window. Such blinds are perfectly combined with curtains and practically do not occupy the window sill space.

Roller blinds perform the same functions as simple horizontal blinds, but the fabric base itself makes them lighter and more graceful.

Vertical. The difference between this type of blinds is that they can be attached not only to the window itself along its outer part, but even to the ceiling. They create an adequate replacement for tulle curtains. However, this type creates "office", and therefore is used for residential premises not so often. However, for rooms with low ceilings, these blinds are perfect. They will help to visually increase the size of the room, this is due to the fact that the structure completely closes the window.

For rooms with low ceilings, these blinds are perfect

Rolled. Thanks to the variety of colors, these blinds are perfect for any design solution. They perform the same functions as simple horizontal blinds, but the fabric base itself makes them lighter and more graceful. They are attached simply - on adhesive tape, using self-tapping screws, which are screwed to glazing beads or brackets.

Do-it-yourself measurements

Taking measurements so that the installation of blinds on a plastic window is successful is not particularly difficult, but it has some features that cannot be overlooked.

If the choice has settled on vertical blinds, then special attention should be paid to the width of the product. Unfortunately, adding an extra record will be much more difficult than, say, shortening it. As a result, after adding at least one plate, you will have to redo the entire product as a whole.

If you decide to hang horizontal curtains, then there are several options for both fixings and measurements.

To attach the blinds inside the window, you need to know the width and height of the product. Of course, the height can be adjusted later using the built-in mechanism, but it is better to calculate it as accurately as possible so that the excess does not "roll" on the window sash with unnecessary weight. Width is the measurement that requires special attention, because depending on the accuracy of its removal, the window will be completely closed or sunlight and unnecessary noise will break through the cracks left.

If the window opens, then measurements should be made in the following way. Take accurate measurements of the height and width of the glass itself, and then add 2 cm on top and 0.5 cm on the sides. It is necessary to take into account the presence of window fittings, which should not interfere with the operation of the blinds.

According to the same principle, measurements are made for roller blinds.

But does it take so much effort and time? Buy brackets, adhesive tape, glazing beads and more? It is much easier with your size to come to the company and select the product of interest.

Methods for attaching blinds to plastic windows

The first thing to do when the question arose as to how the blinds are installed on a plastic window is to take the dimensions, it is better to double-check them several times and only then go to the company. By the way, it is better to contact the company where the plastic windows themselves were made.

To order the manufacture of blinds, which will be mounted in such a way that they will be above the common canvas of window openings, the dimensions of the window are required. But also in this case, the structure can have exactly the dimensions that the customer wishes. True, one should also take into account the fact that in the future they should harmoniously fit into the interior.

Most often, installation instructions are attached to the blinds. Before starting work, you should study it well and you can start installing the product.

To do this, you need to arm yourself with tools:

  • pencil;
  • ruler;

Measuring tool for attaching blinds to plastic windows

  • screwdriver;
  • brackets;

Screwdriver for attaching blinds to plastic windows

  • drill and drill 6 mm;
  • hammer, scissors, dowels and screwdriver.

There are several ways to install blinds:

  • install by screwing;

Hammer for attaching blinds to plastic windows

  • hang on pre-nailed brackets;
  • attach to the holes drilled in the wall.

Important! But we must remember that after screwing the product with screws to the plastic window itself, holes will remain in it, which, if the structure is removed, will spoil the appearance of the window opening.

Installation of horizontal blinds on plastic windows

Each owner thinks about how to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows.

This process requires a certain amount of precision and attention. It consists of several stages:

  1. Having stepped back 6 cm on both sides, it is necessary to outline the place where the blinds will be attached. At this stage, it is necessary to pay special attention to the accuracy and evenness of the future attachment points. If they are skewed, the blinds will not be able to fully work and will soon fail.
  2. Using a screwdriver, mark the holes into which the brackets will be attached in the future. If the window needs to be opened, then the holes should be made in the upper part of each sash, but if the window is deaf, then the hole should be made on the outside of the glazing bead.
  3. After inserting the blinds into the brackets, click them.

If the process of installing blinds caused questions or any difficulties, watch the video instructions for installing blinds on plastic windows

  1. Depending on the size of the blinds and convenience, make a hole below or on the side of the window sash, into which the retainer will be fixed.
  2. Check how the blinds work.
  3. If the process of installing blinds caused questions or any difficulties, watch the video instructions for installing blinds on plastic windows.

Although it is a little easier to install vertical blinds, it still requires no less painstaking work. It consists of the following steps:

  1. At a distance of at least 10 cm from the edge of the eaves, it is necessary to make markings for the brackets with a pencil.
  2. Drill the holes and, inserting the dowels into them, fix the brackets.
  3. Install the mounting brackets together with the decorative lamellas on the cornice.

  1. After collecting the runners, secure them to the canvas.
  2. Attach the weights to the lower part of the decorative slats.
  3. Connect the weights to each other by successively threading a decorative chain into their ears.
  4. After inserting the end corners and side panels into the ends of the decorative panel, install it into the mounting brackets.
  5. Check the operation of the blinds.
  6. If for some reason they do not work or do not work correctly, it is better to watch a video on how to install blinds on plastic windows or contact a specialist for help.

But the installation of roller blinds is the fastest and least expensive. All you need is:

  • double sided tape;

  • duct tape;
  • liquid Nails.

Thanks to this method of fastening, they can be removed, washed, hung up and re-hung in a new place.

On a note! For greater strength, the frame must be washed well and all dirty spots that will interfere with the strong adhesion of the tape to the plastic must be removed.

Some firms, selling blinds, complete only the canvas. In this case, all fastening materials have to be purchased additionally. When choosing curtains, you should pay attention to the fact that different types of blinds are suitable for different rooms. For example, plastic blinds are most suitable for the bathroom due to the ease of cleaning, for the kitchen - made of aluminum or fiberglass, because they do not burn, and in the bedroom they will create coziness and comfort of products on a fabric basis.

There are a few rules to keep in mind during installation:

  1. For a more even installation of horizontal blinds, at the very beginning, make a mark on the bottom of the window where the side should end, since alignment on the longer vertical side will align the upper perpendicular accordingly.
  2. Some firms suggest using special screws for installation, which can be screwed directly into the window profile;
  3. If the fixing plates do not fit tightly to the window profile, special U-shaped pads are used, which, depending on the gap, can be used from one to several pieces.

It should also be remembered that vertical blinds should never be moved by hand if they are unfolded so that they completely cover the window. This could damage them. You must first, pulling the chain, turn the slats perpendicular to yourself, and only then you can move apart or move the blinds themselves.

In the event of defects, poor operation of the blinds, they creak or do not turn - be sure to call the master of the company where you made this purchase. Do nothing yourself. Even though it seems simple enough.

Of course, everyone loves cleanliness, but new blinds have a certain coating that wears off very quickly. In this regard, it is best to completely soak the blinds, let them stand, and only then gently wipe with a soft sponge, rinse and let dry on their own.

But vertical curtains must be cleaned very carefully with a whisk of dust or a vacuum cleaner with an air intake regulator.

Important! You should always remember that when using the products, you should follow the instructions for use.

A sharp twitching of the lace of vertical curtains leads to their breakage.

I like

It is not always convenient to use curtains. In some cases, blinds are more practical and more convenient. They make it possible not only to protect yourself from indiscreet glances in the evenings, but also to regulate the level of illumination during the day by turning the slats (plates). We will talk about how to install blinds on plastic windows in this publication.

Designs and installation methods

There are two types of blinds for windows - vertical and horizontal. Vertical lamellas are usually made of plastic or special dense fabric, cut into strips 10-15 cm wide. Less often, you can find lamellas made of aluminum or synthetic threads.

Lamellas of horizontal blinds are plastic, wood and metal. Regardless of the type and material, they consist of cornice and lamellas. Cornice - a plastic or aluminum U-shaped section in which the controls are located and to which the lamellas are suspended. Lamellas are horizontal or vertical stripes / plates that actually cover the opening. In order to be able to open and close the blinds, there are controls - chains or threads.

In horizontal models, there is also a control rod associated with the swivel mechanism. By rotating the rod, the angle of inclination of the lamellas is changed. This is how you can change the amount of light and the "degree of transparency" of the window. If the lamellas are placed vertically (almost), they completely block the view. In a horizontal position, they almost do not interfere with the view, but there are many other positions.

Installation of horizontal and vertical blinds

When installing the blinds, you need to attach the cornice. To fix it, specially designed brackets are included in the kit. These brackets are attached to a window or wall, and the cornice is simply put on them (until it clicks).

There are several ways to install blinds on slab windows:

The method of installing the blinds will have to be determined even before the purchase: the size of the canvases depends on this. So the type of installation must be selected before measurements.

We carry out measurements

It is necessary to decide on the type of blinds (horizontal, vertical) and the method of their installation (on the wall, ceiling, in the window on the sash, in the window opening) before buying. And even until the moment you start measuring. Because different installation methods require different sizes. Only with the correct measurements will it be easy to install blinds on plastic windows.

Another important point: you need to measure each window separately... Sometimes it just seems that they are exactly the same. Believe me, there is a difference. And the measurement results must be recorded and signed, which specific window you measured and which sash it is. Accurate and detailed records will help avoid confusion when purchasing and installing.

Into the window opening

Although the appearance of the products is different, when measuring, there is no difference between horizontal and vertical models. If you are going to install blinds in a window opening, it is necessary to subtract 2 cm from its width on each side. You can subtract 1-3 cm from the height of the opening. Such gaps are needed so that the canvas hangs freely in the opening and the lower edge of the lamellas does not rub on the windowsill.

Please note that you can install blinds on plastic windows "in the opening" not flush with the edge of the opening, but deeper - at the glass itself or stepping back 5 or more centimeters from the edge. If the opening has a trapezoidal shape, the height / width of the opening will be less for the glass, so we carefully measure it. And yet, in this case, it is better to put marks for installation even when measuring. Then you will know exactly where you will need to install blinds on plastic windows so that their dimensions fit perfectly.

Ceiling or wall

Here the measurements depend on your desires. The length of the blinds can be up to the floor or only up to the windowsill. Moreover, depending on the type of installation chosen, the lamellas can cover the window sill or not. So the length is whatever you like best.

This is wall mounting. When mounted on the ceiling, the length will increase., And how much - you choose

The width of the blinds with this installation method is wider than the window opening. How much wider depends on your desire, but the minimum entry is 5 cm on each side. But if the window is in the same plane with the wall surface, you will need additional brackets, which are not included in the package: the lamellas must be spaced at least 5 cm from the glass surface so that they do not interfere with the opening of the sash for ventilation.

On sash

When installing blinds on a multi-sash window, there are two options - to put one device on each sash or order one long one for the whole window. Usually the first option is chosen - it makes it possible to open and close the sashes when the blinds are lowered. If you choose this installation method, you will need to measure each leaf and record the results. The flaps can be different, so be careful.

The width of the blinds when installed on the sashes is taken 3 cm wider than the glass. When hanging, the lamellas are 1.5 cm over the profile. It is convenient and does not interfere with opening / closing windows. The length depends on the mounting location, but usually it is 5 cm longer than the glass height.

Once again, we draw your attention: we measure each sash!

How to install blinds on plastic windows: attach to a wall or window opening

The first step is to apply the markings. We install brackets in the cornice. We place them on the right and left so that they do not interfere with the operation of the blinds. The installation height depends on the selected product length.

We apply the curtains, mark with a pencil on the wall the places for installing the fasteners in the brackets. If we are installing horizontal blinds (they are light and hardly create loads), it is enough to put one screw / dowel at a time. Vertical ones are heavier, so you need to install all the fasteners from the kit.

There is also a second way. Draw a horizontal line at the selected level using the building level, try to avoid tilting - this will affect the blinds (skew). Attach the bottom of the bracket to this line, using a pencil to mark through the holes for drilling. If the length of the eaves is more than 2 m, an additional bracket is needed to increase the rigidity of the structure, which is fixed in the middle.

When fastening to brick or concrete, we drill holes in the wall or ceiling at the marked points. Drill or hammer drill - who has what in stock. The drill diameter depends on the size of the dowels. They usually come in a set, but you can put your own.

We insert expansion dowels into the finished holes, carefully hammer them in with a hammer. We put brackets, fasten them with screws or nails (if using a dowel-nails). We install the cornice on the brackets, insert the plugs on the sides. For horizontal blinds, attach a rod (handle) to control the swing mechanism. To do this, directly into the mechanism itself, install a special hook (included), attach the tip of the rod to this hook.

Installation of horizontal blinds on PVC window sashes

With this method of installation, the blinds are attached with small self-tapping screws (included in the kit) to the window profile. They must be installed so that they do not interfere with the handle turning. Be careful: if you drill too close to the glazing beads, you can damage the glass unit. Therefore, in this case, correct measurements are very important.

Installation step by step

The procedure is as follows:

Having to drill holes in a window frame can be daunting, but that's okay. In case of improperly made holes, unsuccessful ones can be filled with sealant. White silicone, not acrylic (acrylic turns yellow quickly). In this case, the characteristics of the windows will not be affected. What could be dangerous - getting into a double-glazed window. Then it can crack. But this is not fatal - it can be replaced, although it will not be cheap.

We put the lower clamps

But that is not all. In order to finally install horizontal blinds on plastic windows, you need to drill a couple more holes - for the clips (also called anti-wind). These are additional fasteners at the bottom of the opening sash of the window. The bottom edge of the blinds is tucked into them. They do this so that when airing the blinds do not hang down, do not dangle from the wind and do not knock objects on the windowsill.

Don't hang out ...

We set the clamps as follows: we try on, pulling the blinds down a little, mark the places of fasteners, drill holes, install. We fill the lower bar into the installed clips. Now, even with a draft or an open sash, the blinds will not dangle. The only thing you need to watch out for during installation is not to get into the glazing bead (this is a long bar that goes along the glass unit and holds it). It is necessary to drill a hole in the frame itself, stepping back at least 1 cm from the edge. Otherwise, there are no problems.

No drilling

There is also a way to install blinds on plastic windows and not drill the frame. This method is available only for those blinds that are hung on opening sashes. In this case, they are simply hung on plastic mounts / brackets that slide onto the frame from above. To prevent them from moving, a strip of double-sided tape is attached to the back of the bracket. After removing the protective film, it can be glued (but you can not fix it).

These L-shaped plastic brackets are not included, but you can buy them from a store or from a firm that sells horizontal blinds. This method is convenient for simple dismantling of the blinds, which is convenient if they need to be repaired or washed.

Assembly of vertical blinds

The vertical blinds are installed in the same way as described above. The difference is that the lamellas are installed after the cornice is fixed (the guide along which the runners move). For convenience, before attaching the slats, you can turn the sliders with an adjustment cord so that the slots in them stand perpendicular to the cornice. Next, just snap the slats into the sliders, inserting the strip until it clicks. So, in turn, we fix all the lamellas.

If the lamellas are made of fabric, then after installing them, do not forget to insert the lower weight. Next, we attach the lower connecting chain to the lamellas.

Installation of vertical blinds is complete.
