How to treat wood from black mold. How to get rid of mold on a wooden surface: the main causes

Both water-soluble and solvent-based products are produced. Typically, a semi-transparent and wood grain-highlighting coating is formed on the surface in the desired tone. They are well absorbed into wood and contain additives against mold, rot, as well as other wood diseases and fungi.

There are a sufficient number of different products from various manufacturers designed specifically to protect wood from moisture, sun, fire, fungus, beetles, etc. If you want to get a high-quality result, be careful about the selection of wood protection products and do not save on this, otherwise you can lose much more later. The list of remedies is constantly updated and may not be complete, nevertheless, we give you a list of the most famous of them.

For the production of flame-retardant textile materials containing up to 33% polyester. NPB 257-02, GOST R 50810-95 (consumption 150 g / m2).

FIELDS OF APPLICATION OF THE COMPOSITION
Processing of the truss system of buildings and structures;
Treatment of floors, floor logs, walls, ceilings and other wooden surfaces and structures that are not directly affected by atmospheric precipitation;
Processing of lumber in the case of their long-term storage in the open air, as well as during their long-term transportation by land and sea transport, including outside the CIS (the composition complies with international standards and requirements for these protective systems).
Fire-retardant processing of textile materials.

METHODS OF APPLICATION OF COMPOSITION
The composition "KSD" should be applied at a positive temperature on dry protected surfaces not treated with paints and varnishes:
by airless or pneumatic spraying, brush, roller;
by dipping in special impregnating baths, by deep impregnation in autoclaves (for lumber at woodworking factories).
Storage conditions: store in a sealed container at a temperature not lower than -5 ° C, excluding repeated freezing.

“Pinotex Classic” is a transparent matte antiseptic. It can be used for any wood surface, but it is most effective for processing rough-sawn wood structures.

"Pinotex Ultra" is also a transparent antiseptic, but it contains a special ultraviolet filter that prevents the coating from fading, keeping the color fresh and bright throughout the entire service life. This agent is especially effective when processing planed wood, and therefore it is recommended for windows, doors and lining. In addition, the “Pinotex Ultra” antiseptic has increased moisture resistance.

“Pinotex Special” is no longer just an antiseptic, but a linseed oil-based coating paint with the addition of wood-protecting agents. The only one of the materials of the Pinotex series forms an opaque coating, and therefore is perfect for processing old wood that has blackened and has lost its beautiful structure. In addition, “Pinotex Special” leaves a visible relief of the wood, which gives the coating a unique decorative effect. Like Pinotex Ultra, this antiseptic paint is highly moisture resistant, especially suitable for planed wood and is recommended for doors and windows.

Pinotex Wood Oil is a new material under the Pinotex brand. It is a highly absorbent water-repellent oil containing wood preservatives and wax. This material is intended for processing garden furniture, railings, terraces. Furniture treated with this composition does not require subsequent varnishing and has a noble satin sheen.

It is recommended to re-paint “Pinotex Classic” after no more than five years from the moment of the first treatment, and the surfaces treated with “Pinotex Ultra” and “Pinotex Special” retain their appearance and color brightness up to 8 years.

When applying materials of the "Pinotex" series, the following technology must be observed. Before impregnation, remove any dirt and loose particles from the wood surface with a wire brush or scraper. Wash the moldy surface with a special detergent “Bio Lavatio”. Rinse the surface thoroughly with water and let dry. Sand the glossy wood film to a matt finish. Remove the resin from the knots, if necessary cover these areas with the specially designed varnish “Oksalakka”. Prime nail heads and other rusted metal parts with metal primer paint.

METHODS OF APPLICATION OF THE COMPOSITION
Apply Pinotex with a brush in a continuous layer along the grain of the wood, paying particular attention to areas where constant contact with water and / or sunlight is expected. On the treated surface, brush with a dry brush for 5-20 minutes to ensure an even distribution of the antiseptic. The durability of the coating can be improved by increasing the number of layers applied, with each subsequent layer making the coating more glossy. One layer is sufficient to renew a previously coated surface with “Pinotex”. When updating a product of the same tone, it is recommended to dilute it with a colorless “Pinotex” so that the color does not become too dark.

All “Pinotex” tones can be mixed with each other in any proportion, and you can lighten the tone by adding colorless “Pinotex”. When covering large surfaces, it is recommended to mix the required amount of antiseptic in one volume to ensure an even tone. It is also necessary to stir the product thoroughly before use and during work.

When treating external surfaces, it is not recommended to use only colorless “Pinotex”, as the complete absence of color pigments in the coating weakens the resistance to solar radiation. For the same reason, the proportion of colorless “Pinotex” in the mixture should not exceed 30%.

It is not recommended to apply the antiseptic in very hot or windy weather, or in direct sunlight. This causes the solvent to evaporate too much on drying, which can lead to the formation of bubbles in the coating and loss of moisture resistance.

It should also be borne in mind that the sides of the house most exposed to sunlight (especially the south side) require better protection and the application of more layers of antiseptic.

Thus, by choosing “Pinotex” antiseptics you get the following advantages:

  • you get a product made by a world leader, which has proven its quality and reliability over many years of use;
  • offered 12 ready-made colors and the possibility of tinting in 35 additional;
  • antiseptics "Pinotex" are environmentally friendly in application and can be used indoors.

Infection with fungus and mold on wooden floors is a common problem faced by owners of houses and baths.

Spores develop actively in a suitable habitat, so it is impossible to get rid of them with wet cleaning.

To effectively eliminate the fungus in the underground, it is necessary to find out the cause of its appearance, remove the formations and, if necessary, replace the floor covering.

Types and signs of fungal formations

Mold and fungi are the simplest forms of microorganisms that have long existed in nature. Such types of fungus develop on a wooden surface as:

  • House sponge;
  • Brownie fungus;
  • Basement fungus.

Such formations carry a latent danger not only for modern coatings, but also for human health. Fungal spores provoke frequent headaches, difficulty breathing, nocturnal coughs, and allergic reactions.

The spread of fungal formations is accompanied by the appearance of the first signs:

  • A strong smell of dampness;
  • Brown, black, dark gray and white spots with uneven edges and their further darkening;
  • Wet areas of flooring with color fading;
  • Bulging, cracking and sagging of the plaster layer.

In order to take effective measures to eliminate fungus on a wooden base, it is necessary to find out the main reasons for its appearance.

Reasons for the appearance

The key reasons for the appearance of fungal growths are high humidity and poor ventilation. High humidity is manifested due to the oversaturation of soils with thawed and underwater waters.

If the building is erected on such soils, then with insufficient waterproofing, the likelihood of the appearance of a fungus is especially high.

Poor basement ventilation also leads to mold and mildew growth.

High humidity can manifest itself not only in utility rooms, but also in living quarters. Most often this occurs due to poor-quality wet cleaning, insufficient or excessive humidification of the air.

How to withdraw and destroy

The elimination of fungal formations under the floor should be approached comprehensively.

It is not enough to identify the cause of the appearance and remove the fungal formations mechanically; it is necessary to create a suitable indoor microclimate that will prevent the emergence of new foci of infection.

If a large area of the floor is infected with fungus, then it will not be possible to completely get rid of it. Experts recommend removing the old flooring and replacing it with a new one.

In addition, it is important to remember that with a wide area of floor contamination, fungal spores can spread throughout the room.

The key areas of work to eliminate fungus from wooden floors are as follows:

  • Mechanical cleaning of surfaces from formations;
  • Surface treatment with antifungal compounds;
  • Replacement of damaged coating elements with new materials;
  • Arrangement of a good ventilation and waterproofing system.

Antifungal drugs

You can effectively get rid of all types of fungus on wood, such as:

Sulfur based checker

It is the most effective formulation available and can quickly eliminate any mold and mildew. You can buy it in specialized hardware stores or on the market.

Sulfur gas is extremely dangerous for the human body and animal, therefore, the processing of the room must be carried out in the absence of strangers and with closed windows and doors.

The checker is placed in a metal container, ignited and left until it is completely burned out. You can open the room no earlier than after 10-12 hours. The treated room is thoroughly ventilated and dried.

Chlorine preparations

Common whiteness is the most popular.

A high concentration solution is prepared for surface treatment. When working with whiteness, it is recommended to use a respirator, protective gloves and protective clothing.

All surfaces are thoroughly cleaned with whiteness from fungal spores and mold. It is recommended to ventilate the room after processing.

Antifungal primer

This is a specialized antifungal agent that allows you to quickly solve the problem with fungal formations. It can be purchased at any hardware store.

The primer effectively removes lesions and prevents their reappearance. Antifungal primer is applied to the previously cleaned surface. In case of deep damage to the surface, it should be cleaned to a fine base. The primer is applied in several thin layers with a wide paint brush.

Vitriol

To effectively eliminate the fungus, you can use solutions of copper and iron sulfate. To obtain a concentrated solution, a clay base, a solution of vitriol and boiled water are used. The prepared ingredients are diluted in a liter of water, after which the affected surface is treated with a solution.

It is possible to get rid of damage and prevent its appearance on the tree with the help of special antiseptic compositions developed for wood.

They include components such as: ammonium, sodium fluoride and zinc chloride. The drug is diluted in the required dosage in water to obtain a concentrate, which is used for spraying the surface.

To effectively fight the fungus, homemade tools are suitable - table vinegar, baking soda, and ammonia. Most often they are used for safe prevention, but for the complex elimination of the fungus, it is worth using more professional drugs.

How to destroy a fungus step by step

How to get rid of fungus from the flooring? You can perform a similar procedure yourself, following the step-by-step instructions.

  1. First you need to prepare an infected room. Remove clean items, furniture and household items from it in a suitable place, and pack contaminated items in garbage bags. Seal the trash carefully to prevent the spread of spores and take it to the bin.
  2. Household items that have come into contact with the contaminated surface are best taken outside for further disinfection.
  3. Close windows, ventilation and other openings and doors in the room.
  4. Next, you need to dismantle the affected floor covering. If the fungus has infected a small part of the floor, only that can be removed. With an extensive lesion, dismantling of the entire coating is required. If a flooring such as parquet or laminate is used in the room, dismantling should start from the corner. If carpet or linoleum is used, it is removed along with the padding.

The affected area should be moistened with plenty of water to avoid the spread of fungal spores throughout the room. Soft floor coverings cannot be repaired, but laminate and parquet flooring can be disinfected and reinstalled.

  1. Any anti-fungal agent described above is recommended for surface treatment. For example, prepare a concentrated solution of vitriol or an antiseptic primer. Small areas are treated with a brush, and large areas with a mop or paintbrush. Mechanically, using a scraper, you should clean the floor from the fungus, then apply an antiseptic and leave for a quarter of an hour. Then again it is required to moisten the surface with an antifungal solution and clean it with a scraper.
  2. If the parquet and laminate boards are slightly damaged, it can also be treated with an antiseptic solution, and fungal spores can be removed with a vacuum cleaner. At the end, the coating should be additionally treated with an antiseptic and left to dry for a couple of days.
  3. All objects that have come into contact with the contaminated surface are treated with a light borax solution diluted in water.

The fight against fungal infections requires mandatory disinfection or replacement of the affected floor covering. Timely prevention will avoid the appearance of new foci of infection.

Fungus damage to wood surfaces in the house, in the country or in the bath can cause not only a change in the structure and pleasant appearance of surfaces. The vital activity of molds is accompanied by the release of toxic compounds into the ambient air. They can cause problems with the bronchi and lungs, up to asthma and rhinitis. Growing fungi and mold that destroy wood can cause a decrease in immunity, allergic reactions and a deterioration in the state of the cardiovascular system. Therefore, it is so important to combat mold on wood and carry out preventive treatments to protect it.

What measures are needed in rooms with mold / mildew?

When processing wood from molds, you must first reduce the humidity in the room where they appeared. After all, a small inflow of fresh air and a large amount of moisture in the air allow these harmful microorganisms to develop. You need to ventilate more often, install special devices to absorb moisture (air dryers or moisture absorbers, for example, Ceresit Stop Moisture). To maximize the penetration of sunlight into the room, which will make it possible to treat the tree from mold more efficiently. If the fungus appears on the furniture, it will be useful to ventilate it in the fresh air in sunny weather. It is better to process it outside too, so that the tree can dry out better.

Folk ways to fight fungus

Mold growth pattern.

Many people do not trust modern anti-fungal products and prefer to treat wood against mold using folk advice recipes. Some of them may be shocking. In some sources, you can find recommendations for treating wood with urine. The recipe includes 1 liter of this waste product and half a piece of laundry soap, which must be grated, and then applied for half an hour to areas affected by mold. The "aroma" of such a product can be easily imagined.

It is often recommended to install bright lamps in a room where fungal damage to the tree has begun and mold has appeared. But these lamps must be disinfectant (they are used in operating rooms) and it is prohibited to stay in the room during their operation. Their price is quite high, and they can only cope with the fungus and completely get rid of mold in the air. Anthracene oil has shown itself well in the fight against fungal infections on wood, but after its application it is impossible to paint the surfaces for several years. This oil can discolor mold-affected furniture or planks and irreparably damage the appearance.

Most often used to destroy mold and bend copper sulfate in various compounds and solutions, which must be prepared independently. If furniture processing is planned, a mixture is recommended that is prepared from 22 g of ferrous sulfate, 18 g of sodium chloride and 44 g of potassium alum. They mix well and dilute with 1 liter of water. Some of them used medicinal salt "Bishovit" to destroy fungus and mold on wood.

But folk remedies are considered not only ineffective, but even dangerous when carrying out wood processing procedures. Copper sulfate, which is so often proposed for use, is highly toxic. Therefore, it must be used in extreme cases and in compliance with all necessary safety measures. To process furniture with copper sulfate means to lose its beautiful appearance, because the surface will be destroyed and the color will change greatly.

Synthetic antiseptics

Wood impregnation scheme.

The best solution for protecting wood from fungus or mold and combating them are antifungal agents from trusted manufacturers. These include the Senezh, Neomid, Tikkurila and Pinotex brands. These preparations destroy mold spores even in the very depths of wood surfaces. There are special preparations for furniture that destroy mold effectively but gently. They can safely handle furniture without worrying about its appearance.

There is one type of fungus that can only be fought with the Wood Healer, a special brand for the destruction of the cep. Only this tool has shown sufficient activity in laboratory conditions. It used to be easier to burn wood than to get rid of it completely or for a long time when this pest appeared, but now mold and mushroom will not be the reason for getting rid of damaged furniture or wood floor / wall covering.

Wood must not only be treated with antiseptics to get rid of the fungus - it must be protected with special solutions.

All of the above brands offer quality protective products that need to be treated with surfaces. Protection is enough for several years so that the mold does not return. This term depends on humidity and compliance with sanitary and hygienic measures.

How can wood surfaces be treated against fungal infections and mold, so as not to harm health, can be disassembled using the example of Neomid 400. Treatment must be carried out in two stages. First you need to thoroughly clean and dry the surface. It is best to do this in a bactericidal medical mask to prevent mold and fungal spores from entering the respiratory tract. After that, apply a layer of the product with a clean cotton cloth, not only on those areas that are covered with mold, but also 10-20 cm around the radius.

You need to work with an antiseptic with gloves and do not let the product get on the skin. After processing, you need to thoroughly ventilate the room. If aerosol is used, then you need to work in a protective mask. This will protect the respiratory tract from accidental ingestion of the antiseptic into the body.

Synthetic preparations for the destruction of mold and fungal spores are a much more effective and safe method of control and preventive protection. They last much longer, do not destroy the surface much and are used ready-made.

Natural wood is undoubtedly the leader among the materials for building a house. The absolute environmental friendliness of wood, high aesthetics and simply unlimited possibilities of use - all this reveals the secret of the popularity of the material for many centuries. However, wood was not without a number of disadvantages. First of all, it is a weak level of resistance to negative external factors. That is why the question of how to treat wood and boards from decay is extremely important for all connoisseurs of the natural and natural.

How to treat wood and boards from decay

The processes of biological destruction of wood, or rotting, is a rather unpleasant process, which, unfortunately, is inherent in this material. Decay processes begin to emerge and accelerate:

  • With high air humidity;
  • At high humidity of raw materials;
  • When there is no good ventilation;
  • With temperature drops;
  • When condensation builds up;
  • During the freezing of the material;
  • With frequent contact with moist soil.

It is best to take preventive measures even during the harvesting and storage of wood.

During storage, the moisture content of the wood decreases, so it is advisable to use a tree that has been felled. Previously, such a technique was used: they chopped down a tree in the winter in order to start construction in the summer. At the present time, there is no need to withstand such a long period. Technological measures are used to protect wood.

Anti-decay treatment of wood includes protecting the wood from moisture penetrating the pores. This can be done with a good waterproofing layer, against moisture contained in the atmosphere - by painting with special paint and a good roof. High-quality thermal insulation and vapor barrier coating, pre-equipped ventilation will protect from condensation.

In addition, it is necessary to place the wooden structure of the building much higher than the ground level. In addition, the ends of the log wall should be sheathed with boards and treated with a special tool. But first things first.

In order for a wooden product to please you with aesthetic characteristics and reliable design for many years, experts advise to carry out preventive processing of the material at the manufacturing stage.

Products for processing wood from decay

Modern methods of combating decay processes involve processing with special means:

  • The ends can be treated with Senezh TOP;
  • The walls can be covered with a special Senezh NEO agent, which will protect it from moisture penetration;
  • It is also possible to apply a finishing coat like Senezh Aquadecor.

Attention... Recently, negative reviews about Senezh products have been increasing. When choosing a product, consult several points of sale.

All these methods in their complex combination will help protect wood from rotting. What impregnation for wood decay is better to choose is up to you, you need to be based on the type of wood and its operating conditions.

Fire retardant wood treatment

Unfortunately, wood is a highly flammable material. You can protect it from fire using special means. They are best combined with wood antiseptic treatment. The best conditions for wood impregnation are:

  • Low moisture content of wood (up to 25%);
  • The temperature of the impregnation itself is about 60-85 ° C;
  • Applying impregnation to specially made tattoos.

Previously, buildings in the private sector were not exposed to fire treatment. Currently, such preventive treatment is practiced. In such cases, it is possible to cover the surface with special refractory materials, often a simple impregnation with brine is used. In the second case, when fire hits the surface, the salt begins to melt and creates a film that can stop the fire.

Fire-fighting means are divided into:

  • Passive ones create a film on the wood surface. Good protection against fire is impregnation with compounds formed on the basis of ammonium sulfates and phosphates, boric acid and borax. The advantages of borax and boric acid are that they have an additional antiseptic effect. When fire hits the surface, the salt begins to melt, creating a film that can stop the fire.
  • Active agents not only block the access of oxygen. BUT and help to reduce the temperature, emit non-combustible gases, prevent the release of tar and combustible gases.

You can prepare a means for impregnating wood at home according to the recipe given in the video.

Means for protecting wood from fires, or fire retardants, can be:

  • Senezh OGNEBIO;
  • Neomid 450;
  • Pirilax;
  • Valti Pohjusti.

Processing is carried out by means of the above means in several layers.

  • Antiseptic treatment
  • Conservation

Both methods involve the use of special chemicals. Antiseptic treatment means the application of a special substance - an antiseptic by hand, with a brush or roller. And conservation - only in the factory by soaking raw materials in special baths, as well as autoclaving.

Antiseptics are of several types. Their use is mandatory in cases where mold has already begun to appear. They are:

  • Water soluble. Completely environmentally friendly, do not have an unpleasant odor and dry quickly. Excellent for surface treatment of walls, floors, ceilings, windows and doors. It is not recommended to use them for wood that has constant contact with water.
  • Water repellent. They have rather pungent odors, but a deeper level of penetration. Perfect for baths, saunas, basements and cellars.
  • Volatile. They cover the wood with a thick film that takes a long time to dry. Perfect for both interior and facade processing.
  • Oil-based. They are water insoluble and also create a strong film. They can be used only for impregnating dry wood. Not recommended for residential use.
  • On a combined basis. Perfect for any kind of wood. They have not only antiseptic, but also fire-retardant properties.

Specific means

The following products are excellent for protecting wood from mold:

  • "Woody doctor". Suitable for all types of wood, regardless of the level of damage. Non-toxic and completely safe.
  • "Biox" - belongs to the class of protective and textured coatings. It protects the wood from mold and also enhances the texture of the wood. It can be both colored and transparent.
  • Biosept is considered one of the best products. It can be used both inside and outside. It is based on a new generation of biocides. The product is absolutely environmentally friendly, reliable and safe.
  • Aquatex is excellent for planed and sawn surfaces (for example, doubles, poitus, platbands and much more).
  • Pinotex is also excellent for almost any type of wood, does not fade and perfectly protects.
  • "Elkon" is available in several varieties, differing in their characteristics. It is used outdoors and indoors. Used to apply to freshly processed material.
  • Potato-compound. You can see its characteristics in the video.

Recommendations for the choice of means for processing wood from decay

Before choosing an impregnation in the store, depending on the operating conditions of the wood, pay attention to the following characteristics:

    Does the impregnation corrode the metal? This quality must be taken into account if further connection with metal fasteners is expected.

  1. The duration of the impregnation on wood.
  2. How deeply the impregnation penetrates the wood. Is it suitable for rooms with high humidity.

    How environmentally friendly the impregnation is. Is it possible to use it inside living quarters or places where animals live?

    Whether the impregnation is designed to counteract the appearance of fungus.

  3. Is it possible to apply this impregnation in rooms with temperature changes.
  4. An unpleasant odor is not emitted from the treated surface during temperature changes or suspended humidity.

These questions can be asked to the representative of the merchant organization. All information is placed in the instructions attached to the materials.

Coating rules

In order to apply a protective coating, no special knowledge and skills are required. These works can be done independently. Before starting work, pay attention to the following characteristics:

  1. Stock up on protective equipment such as a mask, gloves and goggles.
  2. In the process, you will need the following tools: a brush, metal brush, detergents, sandpaper and a scraper.
  3. Inspect the wood itself before starting work. Cracks on its surface indicate the need for treatment.
  4. The optimum time for performing work is considered to be a temperature of 20-25 0 C. It is allowed to start work at 10 0 C, and not higher than 40 0 C. It is strictly forbidden to work off a frozen tree.
  5. If the wood has been previously treated or coated, all traces on the surface must be cleaned and removed.

Perform preparatory work and processing in the following sequence:

  1. Remove dirt and old coatings from wood with a solvent or scraper.
  2. Sand the surface and remove dirt with a detergent solution.
  3. Create conditions for the wood to dry completely.
  4. When applying protective agents, pay special attention to end surfaces, joints, cuts.
  5. In case of recoating, do the work at least three hours later.
  6. It will take at least 48 hours for the coating to completely dry. Time may vary depending on temperature, humidity in the room.

Traditional methods of wood protection

There are also popular methods of protecting wood without chemicals from fires. This is the preparation of a solution based on clay, salt and water. The proportion of its preparation is as follows:

  • Clay - 75 parts;
  • Salt - 5 parts;
  • Water - 20 parts.

All this mixture is diluted to a thick mass and applied in several layers. Also among folk remedies, a coating prepared on the basis of superphosphates is popular. The mixture is made according to the ratio of water and superphosphate 25 to 75. It is applied in the same way in two or three layers.

Important: such a coating tends to harden after 5-6 hours, so the prepared composition must be used during this period, otherwise it will become unusable.

The problem of how to treat wood and boards from decay has been of interest to people for a long time. And over the years, many folk methods have accumulated to protect wood from biodegradation. So, what to do with the tree so as not to rot:

Conclusion

Protective equipment is selected individually. Terraces, gazebos, rafters and sub-floors are treated with stubborn solutions. If there is very high humidity in the premises, then products with an extremely reliable level of protection are used. You should also consider:

  • Room temperature;
  • Terms of Use;
  • The term of the funds;
  • Finishing appearance.

You need to choose the means and methods based on your own needs and preferences.

We also recommend you:

Wood is the most demanded material in construction. And this is not surprising, because it has many unique properties. This is environmental friendliness, and an attractive appearance, and good thermal insulation of the room. But it also has one drawback - wood is highly susceptible to external factors. It can grow moldy and even rot. How to protect wood products?

Why wood structures grow moldy

Mold is considered the real enemy of wood. With prolonged exposure, it destroys it - the tree rots. This unpleasant phenomenon appears for several reasons:

  • too high air humidity (more than 80%);
  • high humidity of the tree itself (about 20%);
  • lack of air circulation;
  • a sharp change in temperature;
  • condensation;
  • freezing of boards in severe frost;
  • contact with the ground.

Prevention

Prevention should be carried out even before the boards become a wooden structure. Methods that relate to the prevention and fungus:

  • The moisture content of a tree that has just been felled can change over time. Therefore, drying should take about 1 year.
  • To avoid the appearance of capillary moisture, it is necessary to equip a waterproofing system.
  • Protection from atmospheric humidity will be provided by special impregnations and paints and varnishes.
  • The use of heat and vapor insulating materials will protect against condensation. The first one needs to be placed near the outer surface, and the second one inside.

Folk recipes

Processing wood from mold and mildew can be carried out using folk remedies. Many have been known for a long time and are very effective:

  1. The first method is to use silicate glue. It must be diluted with water so that a fluid solution is obtained, but not too liquid. Carry out processing of the most problematic areas of the wooden structure.
  2. The second method requires more complex components. This is a solution of potassium dichromate (5%) and sulfuric acid at the same concentration. Connect the elements in a ratio of 1 to 1. To protect against moisture, it is necessary to process the walls made of wood, ceilings, etc.
  3. The following recipe is easy to prepare. You will need baking soda and vinegar. Pour baking soda on the place affected by mold, and then sprinkle it with vinegar, previously poured into a spray bottle.
  4. A solution prepared according to this recipe can be used to treat all wooden surfaces without exception. 100 g must be diluted with 10 liters of ordinary water.
  5. Wood products that are located outside the house can be treated with well-heated resin.
  6. The last option. You need to take 5 liters of boiling water, add 50 g of boric acid and 1 kg of ordinary table salt to it. Mix well. Carry out the processing several times with an interval of about two hours.

All folk recipes are applicable when mold and mildew did not have time to infect a large area of wooden products. If the situation is critical, you will have to use more serious methods of struggle.

Other methods

According to experts, the most effective and at the same time available are such methods of combating wood decay as conservation and antiseptic treatment.

During conservation, wood is treated with a poisonous substance. This takes place in special rooms in factories and factories. After impregnation, it is soaked in steam baths (hot and cold).

Antiseptic treatment involves applying special chemicals to the tree. Processing is carried out independently. For work, you need a paint brush or a regular roller.

Classification of funds

Means for protecting wood from mold, mildew and decay processes are divided into three types:

  1. Paints. They protect surfaces from high humidity, and also take care of the appearance of wooden products.
  2. Lucky. They create a protective film on the surface. They prevent the growth of microbes and bacteria, drying out of wood and the appearance of cracks.
  3. Antiseptic solutions. They work when mold and mildew have already appeared.

Antiseptics should be given more attention. Unlike other tools, they have their own classification system.

  • Soluble. They have no effect on humans and animals, do not smell and dry quickly. They are marketed both in the form of a powder and in the form of an aqueous solution. Used to treat individual boards, walls, floors, windows, doors, etc. Do not use where the wooden structure is in direct contact with water.
  • Water repellent. Usually have a strong odor. They act much deeper than other types. They are used to protect baths, saunas and basements.
  • Containing a solvent. The film formed by such a product dries for a long time (about 12 hours). Can be used both outdoors and indoors.
  • Oil based. Thanks to them, a thick film appears on the surface, which provides long-term protection. It is important that the wood is completely dry. Otherwise, the fungus will eat away at it from the inside.
  • There are tools that combine the properties of everyone else. They protect against mold and make the material less flammable.

Antiseptics are also divided according to how they are absorbed. Glazing agents do not affect the appearance of wood in any way. The film that they form is not visible. Covering compositions have a deeper effect, the color and relief of the structure depends on them.

By appointment, antiseptics are divided into compositions for indoor and outdoor use. For example, varnishes and paints are recommended for outdoor use. They are not affected by aggressive external factors. The rest of the products are best used indoors. They may not be able to cope with temperature extremes, exposure to direct sunlight, etc.

It is important that instructions for its use are attached to the purchased product. There should be information on how it affects people and animals, and how to use it.
